Review for prohd ptz optical zoom outdoor

Price was $59.99 - $489.99. Great camera product. This product works exactly as expected with little pre-configuration. Wires are hidden in the mount, so they cannot be tampered with once the camera is mounted. Image quality is good and infra-red lighting is great. Good feature set on the camera software and easy to setup. . This camera has plenty of options available. It's onvif compatible, so it works with a number of applications other than being limited to the amcrest application. You can even turn off the p2p streaming to the cloud services and use it as a local ip camera. . It is a poe (power over ethernet) camera, so don't purchase this unless you have a plan for getting power to the camera either via a poe switch, or poe injectors. This model is not wifi, but requires an ethernet (network) cable for the network connection. I use the hardwired setup to a poe switch and it works great. . This camera does not include audio so don't expect that, or ptz (pan tilt zoom) but it was exactly as i expected for an outdoor, poe, non-ptz, non-audio camera, in fact it exceeded my performance expectations. . Again, lots of settings, so it can function as a standalone camera or as part of a multi-camera system running blue iris software or other ip camera application. Very pleased with this camera model and the included feature set.

Foreword

This amcrest camera turned out to be a good bang for the buck. Installation was easy, and it works well with blue iris software. I've used logitech, vivotek, trendnet, and other cameras, and even if the amcrest isn't the best of the bunch, it is certainly the best value for the money. I purchased 4 of these camera to place around all the exits of my home. A few years back a couple of guys tried to break in to the house and the wife has been asking me to add security cameras for piece of mind. I also think adding cameras around the house act as a great deterrent again intruders. At night the soft glow of the led night vision lights also a great warning that they are on camera. . I went with poe cameras since even the wireless ones still need a cable for power so i bought a 8 port poe injector ws-poe-8-48v60w passive 10/100 power over ethernet poe injector for 8 ip cameras, voip phones or access points, 48 volts, 60 watts total power which connects via cat5e to the cameras and the dlink switches for the house network. I used blueiris added to a media pc i already had to act as the control center for all of the camera which i can access via a web page or using their mobile app. . The first camera was a little tricky to setup since it was the first but after i figured it out the next cameras took about 60 seconds. I do recommend setting up a static ip so if there is a power outage they don't come up with a new ip address and you can't find them. Video quality during the day and night is very good. Impressed how far the night vision can reach although my primary concern is without 30-40 feet of the entrances. . I think the physical quality of the cameras is good. Previous reviewers have talked about two small wires hanging out. I think they have gotten rid of this now. On this model there is the ethernet connection which comes with outside water-resistant connectors and another smaller connector which looks like it could be used for external power. Not sure how you would reset the cameras now. I did wish that it was possible to be able to disconnect their 8" or so cable and just plug the ethernet right in to the camera base. On one of my camera their cable is inside the wall but its visible in the other installations. . So far i'm very happy with the purchase and we will see how they hold up against colorado weather. -M. PROS
  • These are pretty easy to set up and the video quality is is good both in the day and night modes. . That said i will mention some observations:. There's a few different ways to go about the initial setup on these. Sure you can use a phone and that is one way to do it. I found the amcrest surveillance pro software to be my favorite way. You can also use the amcrest ip config software or the nvr interface if you are using the nvr. Having used them all i like the surv, pro sw best. One big reason is this. As some users mentioned one problem with the cameras is that if you lose power - not just to the cameras only but say to everything - including your router, they are subject to getting different addresses when everything comes back. This can be problematic. I decided to simplify my life in this area by switching my whole system over to static addresses. Once this is done i think the power outages will have less impact (they happen here with annoying frequency). I found making these configuration to be easiest using the surv pro sw. . I think this resolution is a good balance between good video quality and network performance. Sure you can get better resolutions but with ip cameras that comes at the cost of more traffic and higher bandwidth needs. Now i have 6 of my 9 cameras run poe directly into a switch connected directly into my nvr so most of the traffic on mine is not going over my wifi network. And the 3 wifi cameras i have of the same resolution perform well too. And i find this resolution fine for my needs. . Now for the physical side - you have to be careful how you mount the base relative to where you want to aim the camera because the screw channels can interfere with the camera's ability to point downward. The base has 4 screws and if you have one of those in line with the downward tilt of the camera you will not have the full range of motion and will not be able to tilt it down very far. You want that cable on the back side of the camera to roll up centered between those screw channels. Otherwise the camera will not tilt down very far into that little semi-circular notch in the bracket. I noticed this after having to undo and remount the first one i mounted because i was not paying attention to this detail. And one of the ones i got was so tight in the base i had to put a strap wrench on it to unscrew it from the baseplate to allow me to mount it. A machine must have screwed that thing together. Once you get past these small details they are easy to mount. I love the poe - so much easier to deal with than the old style. It is why i have waited until now to install a system. On the whole i've been happy with these so far.
  • This camera is a great addition to my home monitoring setup. It was very easy to install (using the template provided to locate & drill holes), and when i plugged it into my trendnet poe switch it immediately powered up and i was able to configure it and set it up with my network & security system. It works without a hitch with blue iris, which is what i use to manage all my ip cameras (and the same can be said for all of the amcrest ip cameras i've tried & use). The field of view on this camera is spectacular - i have it semi-inside, it's mounted above the entry door in my 2-car garage, and it's able to cover the entire garage plus get a good view of anyone entering or exiting any of the entry doors. Because of its location, i'm not using it where range is an issue, but for the range in question ( 20ft) the picture is great - more than good enough to recognize a face, read a license plate, etc. It's fully and easily adjustable, which is nice when you're up on a ladder with cell phone in one hand (looking at the camera view) and using the other to aim the camera. The only feature this one is missing is a vandal-proof dome - if they'd had that on this camera i'd have another one of these surveilling the driveway outside. But that's a very minor nitpick - for my needs this camera is perfect, and i would recommend it without reservation.
CONS
  • The camera built quality is good. The reason i gave 2 stars is due to its poor night vision capability. The infrared led are not spreading ir light uniformly across field of coverage. Instead ir leds creating a bright spot in the center of the frame. With this the center point of the screen is over lit and surrounding objects are low lit. I have amcrest bullet cameras (ip2m-853ew) where this problem is not persist.
  • Motion sensing is sporadic and notifications to my phone are lagging. . Easy setup though and good live viewing via the app. But i really wanted a motion sensor that worked. . Update: motion sensor works better after moving under overhang where rain can't cause a false alarm. Also moves camera closer to the location of the motion. Upgrading from 2 to 3 stars. Still a lag in motion alarms sent using both amcrest cloud and amcrest view.
  • This was a good camera, unfortunately there was a couple of minor shortcomings that forced me to return it. . Pros:. - camera was easy to setup. - excellent video quality. - email photo, record etc. . Cons:. - amcrest surveillance pro software is horrific. I couldnt get the nvr feature to even work. Called support several times, got one call to explain the issue, never called back. - the one above wouldn't have been a dealbreaker if this camera integrated with any other ip camera nvr/monitoring software. I tried ispy and xprotect. Xprotect couldnt even connect to it and ispy just lagged out the camera on connection. . Save yourself the hassle and get hikvision cameras, bought four and they work like a charm

i bought this camera to monitor my driveway and most of the front of my house. I have it mounted right over my driveway and the wide angle is perfect for this setup. I think the angle is a little wider than the advertised 93 degrees, which is a good thing. I also have another one mounted over the deck in the rear of my house. The camera is white so it's inconspicuous as well. This camera is true 1080p and nearly matches the clarity of the ip3m and ip4m cameras, which i have also tested. Mounting it can be a little tricky until you understand how it should be positioned. You have to pay extra attention to where the wire is positioned as you tighten the ring. Although tricky, the mounting style allows for some fairly flexible angles since the camera is basically a ball. You can twist and turn it how you see fit. . The only thing i don't particularly care for is that it has a fairly large rj45 connector that must be positioned outside of the camera. This would be fine for an in-wall installation but i ended up running my cables under my siding and the size of the connector made it pretty difficult. Keep in mind that if you plan on running the cables into your house that you will be required to drill a fairly large hole into your house in order to fit the connector through. To be fair, it's not really possible to make the connector much smaller than it is but i think it would have been a good option to have the ability to plug an rj45 connector directly into the back of the camera. This would eliminate the need for the larger connector and allow you to drill a much smaller hole. There certainly would be enough room on the back of this camera to do this. The infrared performance is good. The light distribution isn't completely even but that's nearly impossible to find at this price point, especially with the clarity of this camera. Overall, i'm happy with it and i personally think this poe dome camera has the best bang for your buck.

Amcrest Prohd Ptz 4x Optical Zoom 1080p Outdoor Poe Ip Camera Motorized Vandal Dome, Ip66 Weatherproof, Ik10 Vandal Proof, Pan/tilt/4x Motorized Zoom, 2-megapixel 1920tvl , Ip2m-848e Black
Click to see NoticeAmcrest Motorized Weatherproof 2 Megapixel Ip2m 848e (ip2m 848eb)"The product seems sturdy and quality built. Comes with a dongle containing both a cat5 connection and ac adapter connection. I only used the cat5 since i was using it for poe, and taped over the power plug. Also comes with a little sleeve thing to cover the connection of the cat5 cable. This sleeve is about 3/4" diameter, i was able to fit it through the hole i drilled with a spade bit in my soffit. Also comes with four mounting screws, however i used different ones of a bit higher quality. The camera is fully adjustable, the ball can be moved in any direction and the "holder" for it also spins around. Picture quality and color are good, however the night vision seems lacking. I'm not sure it actually makes the full 98 foot claim, but i also haven't exactly measured it. See the pics and judge for yourself (screenshots from the amcrest view android app). . As i said, i set it up poe with an amcrest nvr and it works perfectly. Was just plug n play into the nvr. Then i was able to view the live cam footage on my phone through the amcrest app which is nice. I believe this camera can also be connected directly to a router for live streaming, however you wouldn't get the extra features or recording capability of an nvr. . My only real complaint is mounting the thing. There are zero instructions provided in the quick start guide in regards to physically mounting the thing to a surface, and i also was unable to find an actual manual (besides the quick start guide) on the amcrest website. The quick start guide is very detailed in the use of the cam's features though. Anyway, i planned to mount the camera on the underside of my vinyl soffit but of course that's impossible to do with the ball in the way of the mounting screw holes. So i figured the ring that holds the ball in comes off. Nope, it just spins around forever. Some of the metal inside the ring actually ground off just by the spinning and force i put on it trying to disassemble it. Turns out, you can just apply downward pressure on the ball from the top (mounting location) and the ball will pop right out. Would have been nice to know that before spending half an hour trying to unscrew the thing. But even then, you'll want a long screwdriver bit to be able to get the screws in because since the ring is still in the way you're kind of screwing in at an angle. . It screwed into my vinyl soffit just fine with stainless steel 3/4" screws. Feels secure enough with no real solid backing behind it. Once the ring was mounted, i drilled a 3/4" diameter hole through the center to feed the cable up in to. There are also 4 little notches if you wish to run the cable out the side of the base. Once everything was in place, i pressed the ball back up in to the ring and it popped back in place. Hasn't fallen yet. . One other thing i noticed while testing it indoors is that the top of the camera ball gets very hot. It kind of makes me nervous having it outside in the sun and heat, but we will see what happens."

(0) Question: Can you mount this camera to a wall?

(1) Question: Can the led lights be turned off? i use external ir illuminators, to avoid having the cameras' ir lights attract insects which trigger recordings.

(2) Question: I want to be able to record the footage and review it later. can i record the stream on my pc? do i need to purchase a separate dvr and if yes camera?

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 4-Megapixel PoE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, MicroSD Storage, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 4MP 2688 TVL , IP4M-1028E Black

Ok, so i bought three amcrest 4mp cameras in three different configurations - 1025 bullet, 1028 dome and 1054 motor-zoom bullet. In general, i'm satisfied with the result and can recommend all three cameras. In the hope of helping others, i'll make some general observations as well as some comparisons between the three. General: the cameras are well made of quality materials (metal) and have good image quality. Documentation is not up to the same level - all three cameras came with user guides that covered many different products and was not helpful at finding specific issues with the camera purchased. An example? the 1028 and 1054 both have the ability to install a microsd card, but no information about how to install it - in the case of the 1054 it's hidden under an access panel and on the 1028 it's held inside a very flimsy metal holder that would be very easy to break if you unknowingly pulled or pushed it in the wrong way. I figured it out, but only because i had a cell phone a few years back that had a similar holder for its sim card. Another example is mounting instructions. The 1028 came with a stick-on paper template to help drill the holes, but the 1026 and 1054 did not. . A few comparative comments. I'm sure it's a personal preference thing, but after my experience installing these three i have to say i found the dome camera much easier to install than the bullets. The dome can be mounted on the ceiling or on the wall (facing out) and the camera rotated on a three-way gimbal that let's you move it to any orientation (one time, during installation) regardless of the orientation of the base (less about 5 degrees). This makes installation easy - screw the base to the wall or ceiling, move the camera to any direction, and fix on the dome. The bullets are a lot harder because the stalk rotates only on one axis, and then by less than 90 degrees. So the base has to be in exactly the right orientation, and once screwed to the wall (making holes in stucco etc) then you have limited chance of reorienting the camera if it turns out to be nonideal. . The cameras can be accessed from a cell phone app or from a browser (only ie, not chrome). But the phone app has limitations, for example i couldn't find a way to use the motorized zoom function. The browser access is more comprehensive. However, best of all is a standalone application called amcrest surveillance pro, that didn't seem to be mentioned at all in the documentation but which was contained on the cd that came in the box (i found it while looking on the cd for a user guide). The surveillance pro mostly replicates the functions of the browser interface, but is much faster and also allows the setup of a virtual nvr on your pc to capture motion detection etc. . And now for some model specific comments:. 1025: this is a simple bullet design with a relatively narrow field of view. I thought it would good for my front door, but in retrospect i would have been better off with a wider view. As mentioned earlier, once you've screwed the base to the wall there are limited options to the directions you can point it. If you want to move the direction more than a little, you'll be drilling new holes (this assumes you want to point the camera at an angle from the wall - if you want to point straight ahead, you're good to go). The 1025 does not have a microsd slot. In the end, i found that was a disadvantage, as the other two cameras were able to capture video within themselves even when not connected to a software program or dedicated nvr. . 1028: this is a simple dome design with a 3-way gimbal that is not motorized (this is not a ptz camera) but you can orient the camera in any direction when you fix it in place. The 1028 accepts a microsd card, and also has sound input and output, as well as alarm triggers than would allow you to run the camera when a doorbell is pushed (for example) or to turn on a light or similar. I didn't use any of those functions. The downside is that it has a lot of wires coming out of it, which were kind of a nuisance during installation (i was tempted to clip them off, but didn't want to short out anything). . 1054: this is a bullet camera with a motorized zoom. I thought it would be good for watching critters in my yard. Zoom works well, and gives a choice between 55 and 104 degree field of view (and everything in between). But this camera is physically big and quite heavy. Installation was more difficult than the 1025 because of the size, especially at the top of a 17 ft ladder! i seriously considered purchasing the 1056 camera instead, which is more or less the same camera in dome format. The dome has the motorized zoom, but not full ptz (i think). The 1054 (bullet) has four ir lamps whereas the 1056 (dome) has only two so the night vision range of the dome is not as much. . I'll attach a couple of photos of raccoons digging up our lawn. These are low resolution pics taken with the 1054 by ispy (which worked well with all three cameras).

Amcrest Outdoor 4 Megapixel Vandal Security (ip4m 1028eb) FAQ.

The wide 118. 6 degree viewing angle really sold me on this as opposed to the other domes from amcrest that are 93 degrees. . The higher res is noticeable when compared to the 1080p. I know some will argue that it's not that big of a difference, and while that is true when looking at the numbers, the picture quality is really great, and the higher res is super necessary with the wider viewing angle. . Something that no one mentions! . If you get a camera with a wider viewing angle, you should absolutely get a higher resolution model. This will allow you to crop in and still get a very respectable resolution image, which if you need a good quality picture cropped in (such as a license plate of a car in the street, speaking from experience unfortunately) is vitally important. For some number justification, see below :-):. By choosing these cameras (118. 6 degrees fov(field of view) and 2688x1520 resolution) over the lower 1080p model (93 degree fov and 1960x1080 resolution), i got a 22% increase in my fov (1 - (93/118. 6)) and a 27% increase in resolution (1-(1960/2688)). All that equates to is that i get a wider fov and even if i want to zoom in to see the same effective fov as the 1080 model, my resolution at that "zoom" will still be higher. -Notice from X. - H. KimberlyI bought the 2megapixel camera set with 4 cameras and the dvr and it is ok, but when it comes down to pixels are everything when you are trying to make out a license plate. This camera has great clarity during the day but at night it isn't much better than the 2megapixel camera. I do like the poe system much more, but just beware you need to get an ethernet booster which gives the camera power. I bought all the tools to make my own ethernet cable ends which makes everything clean. If you do decide to make your own cables make sure you buy a tester to make sure you got it right. It is easy to not get a good connection when crimping ends. The software couldn't have been easier to get it to work on my pc, phone or cloud. I do witch amcrest would come out with a zoom or a camera that has a higher range. You can read a plate from about 50 ft with this camera (during the day). I am really happy with the cloud service, but it is kind of expensive considering 2 cameras is about the same price and a security system service.

Overall i am very happy with the camera. I have had one running for about a week with no issues, and i am about to install 7 more. The one big issue is with the description on online store as well as the manufactures web site. They say it has a 92 degree viewing angle, but the packaging says its 84 degrees.

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-956E White

I've been using this camera for almost three weeks and love it. The picture is crisp and clear, and install was quick and easy. . For the price you really can't beat this camera. It's fixed focus and fixed position, so you need to put some thought into placement. For example, on the peak of our house pointing at the driveway, it covered the driveway and parking, and was clear enough to read license plates. If your software has an alarm feature, this can also let you know when someone pulls in your driveway. I suggest attaching it temporarily (i've hung cameras from a small nail, used duck take, attached to a ladder, etc. ) then using your software to check the location. If you need to read plates, make sure you can. Seems obvious, but most people don't do that. . It's a hybrid poe. With poe the power comes over the network cable - this has individual inputs for the network and power. The cameras can accept poe from the ethernet cable or from a 12v power supply (i never throw out power supplies when something dies, so i have a bunch! ) power supply not included - they never are with poe. You have a few options when installing this. If you're mounting to an exterior wall, the provided cable is long enough to pass through cinder block - so you don't need to worry about weather-proofing. If you need to have weatherproof connections, you have a couple of ways to go. . Make your own cable so it's weatherproof (connector included) and pick up a weatherproof power supply. Or macgyver something. I'm not saying you should take risks with anything electrical. I put a similar camera on the side of our deck to monitor our pond - it required a power supply. I used a disposable lunch-meat container (disposable glad, etc. ) and put the power supply and connections in that, then hung it under the deck. It's been bone dry for two years. The extension cord runs to a gfci outlet. No need to fabricate a cable. The camera is 12v, so you could even run it from a landscape lighting transformer. You can easily run a supply line 20 feet or more for the power, so the transformer can be plugged in - say - your garage. Then run the wire out the wall to the camera. 12v is easy and safe to work with. . Alternately, use a poe injector or poe switch and forget the power supply. This really increases placement options. I love poe for hard to reach places - under eaves, by the pond, etc. No need to have a nearby outlet. I'd plug and seal the 12v connector if it's exposed to the weather, since you're not going to use it. . I'm honestly amazed at the video quality for the price. . Software: i use blue iris, but also amcrest's free "amcrest surveillance pro" software. The camera works with either. No matter what you use, i'd still run the "amcrest surveillance pro" software - it pulls all the details on the camera so you know what to enter in other software. The apps are also simple to use, as is the desktop browser connection. You can also use the desktop to setup alarm detection and more. Eliminate areas with trees, just detect the driveway or stairs, doorways or sidewalk, etc. There's also a video tampering setting. Either (or both) can be set to record, take a snapshot and email. Plus you can also set events for network issues, camera disconnection, etc. . Build quality: professional and heavy duty. Attaches with three screws, rubber gasket on the mount plate. I always use silicone sealer to play it safe, especially on uneven surfaces. . Software: lots of features in any version. I actually like the amcrest software over blue iris. . Bottom line: amazing quality for the price. I've paid 2x as much for the same thing. I'm running it at 2304x1296, h. 264h, 20fps, 4096 bit rate. The camera also supports a lower resolution sub stream of 640x480, designed for cell phones, etc. . Free sample provided for honest review.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Vandal Security (ip3m 956ew) FAQ.

got this little gem six days ago from online store. I had it out of the box and working indoors in less than 15 minutes. The most difficulty i had was that i didn't remember to write down my password and then to find the reset button. The reset isn't really very noticeable. Once i reset, i did the process over again with my phone and voila! the qr scan for the code worked perfect. Once we drilled the hole through the wall, it was fairly simple to run the cord from the camera through. The camera has about 8 inches of cat6 (female) and a plug in case you don't use poe. You still need the male cat6 to go from the camera plug to the injector. The injector did not come with any cat6 either, so i purchased a 10 ft length to go from the injector to my verizon box. I had played with the camera before installing outside on the wall so i was very familiar with how to tilt it to the angle i needed and then rotate the lens so the picture wasn't sideways or upside down. The night vision isn't what i had hoped. It's ok if i know the people and cars that are in the pictures. But i am having a stalker problem, driving by my home. The police need it on film/pic, his car. Even zooming in is not going to work, and even getting a tag number on my own vehicle at night is virtually impossible, even at the closest distance. So that's going to be impossible with this camera. Daytime video is excellent and then some. At dusk, i can at least determine make and model of vehicle. The video i included is actually at night, midnight, and looks to me to be a cop because of the security light. I also must say that the motion trigger turns on the camera before that person/car etc is even in view! i am using the amcrest cloud, saving only 7 days of video. I am also using amcrest view and amcrest cloud on my android phone and have had no issues what so ever. I have used both apps while at the grocery store, the mall, and while on the road, no issues. The issue other folks may have with the email alerts, i just made a gmail address specifically for my camera. Otherwise my regular email address would be filled up! i think this will be most useful for when i am out of town. It's easier for me to check the cloud the next day, and review each event. I am seriously considering another camera, the bullet style. Putting this one out back to view my porch and front door. The max length of cat6, the company told me, is 300 ft. That's a nice distance for those that don't want to hard wire or don't have an outlet handy. Besides, wireless can be a fickle thing sometimes. I also had to purchase the injector, and went with the tplink, as i have verizon and my box did not support poe. Having never had a security camera before, maybe i was expecting too much. Total install 30 minutes. I spent more time just playing with the software. I highly recommend this camera, based on ease of installation and use. I only gave four stars because i was hoping much better for night vision. My kindle does not support their software. -Notice from G. Suzanne, North Carolina

I had a foscam ip camera that was 3 years old and continually having to be physically rebooted (unplug, replug, reboot), so i upgraded and went with a poe and nvr setup. This camera works much better than my old foscam and it was a significant upgrade as far as resolution and ease of getting electricity to the camera so i am happy with that. I work with computers so i was able to get my poe, nvr, and poe switch set-up eventually, but it is not for the faint of heart. The software for the camera and nvr is beyond terrible (it's the same software for the camera and nvr). It is worse than the old foscam software and i thought that was terrible. To say it is not intuitive is an understatement. The instructions make no sense. Getting the nvr to recognize the camera took multiple reboots. The amcrest nvr does not even list its own amcrest cameras in the pull-down camera selector. My laptop was so horrified by the security issues in the software i had to create an exception to allow the pages to load and the gui looks like it was built by a high school kid in 1998. I knew that for the price it would not be awesome software but wow. This is amazingly bad. They've added a lot of variables and "functionality" to the software that just add to the confusion and most don't work exactly how you would think. It took me about a week of working on the setup and the software a little bit every day to get it to do what i wanted (record motion to the nvr and send motion-triggered images to my email) but i think i have it working well enough. So at the moment i am happy enough with the camera but i would not recommend it for someone who has not worked with terrible software before or who wants a camera up and running immediately.

- O. PeggyI just unboxed the camera, setup took about 10 min (some basic network knowledge and casually reading through all the settings). The box contains only the camera, mounting screws, and documentation on mini disk. Amcrest made a welcome change i have been hoping for. They now include a weatherproofing fitting for the ethernet connection, although you must put an unfinished ethernet cable through the weatherproof connector 1st and then terminate it with a plug, so make sure you have the proper tools if you planning to use it) ! as expected the web interface for the camera is much improved over some similar foscam models i have. Also plays rather well with blueiris (though camera is so new it doesn't yet have its own model listing in blue iris 2/22/16), but does work ok with the amcrest/prohd 1080p setting (which the camera still displays at full resolution higher than 1080p). Overall i am very pleased with the improvements, especially for the price. I will update after a few months if something changes. . There aren't clear instructions for how to assemble the weatherproof connector, but 1st you take the main body of the connector and place the little rubber cylinder with the rib facing inwards toward the connector into the end with the plastic "fingers" protruding. Then you run your unfinished ethernet cable through the connector nut and through the rubber cylinder/main body assembly, then you terminate your cable with a plug (8p8c or known commonly as an "rj45 plug"). Lastly place the large rubber o-ring around the female ethernet port from the camera, with the chamfer facing toward the main body or the connector, plug in the cable, screw it all together and done! (check photos). . Note: since this is a poe camera, for safety it is wise to ensure your ethernet cables are solid copper and at least 24 awg.

I installed this without any trouble and got it working right away. I wish it amcrest came w/ a two-way audio version as that would be perfect for my situation but works as expected otherwise. Image quality is good as long as you select h. 264 (not 'h' or 'b') as your compression.

Amcrest Varifocal 2688x1520 Motorized Ip4m 1056ew (Office Products) FAQ.

Very happy with this camera so far. This is my 2nd amcrest camera. The quality for the price is excellent! housing is metal and feels like "quality". Video quality is exeptional! wide angle covers my two car driveway and property on both sides. Ir lights up the area adequately. User configuration has all the settings i desire. This camera has no wifi and can be powered by poe or with an optional power supply. If you are looking for a camera with wifi, amcrest has several that you may like. I used my own hard-earned cash to purchase this camera and i recommend it. -Notice from C. Lewis, New Hampshire

- D. HadleyVery impressed with the high quality of video this camera displays. The ui and features are better then the ip-844e. Kind of wish you could twist it when it was mounted though, but overall super happy with the camera.

The camera itself has a great picture during daytime and its fair at night, def not as good as its advertised for night. I'm not sure how well it would do in total darkness. The camera is current near a outside light. The camera is not as easy as amcrest makes it out to be to set up. You will need to know how to get into the camera which is the same way a person would get into their router via a web browser. This in the only way to adjust the date/time, day/night modes, etc. I've called and emailed amcrest support and i do not believe its located in the us, making it difficult to understand. Its been a week and the camera has been operating fine, however there was an issue with it recording to the amcrest cloud which took some time to troubleshoot. If you are not technologically savy, i would not suggest this camera. Overall once you get the camera up and running, it seems to be a decent camera for its price.

Only fly in the ointment here is the the camera control is only done from the web interface, which would be fine, but it requires a plug in that doesn't seem to work on windows 10. Tried two separate windows 10 computers, using ie, no bueno. Installs, brief flash of a dialog box (not long enough to read it), then no change and no errors message. The camera works fine from the amcrest ap on android, but it's not possible to set up the motion detect from the ap; the web interface is required. . I have a trouble ticket in with amcrest after searching their tech forum to no avail. (always ominous when no one has seen your tech problem). I'll share how it comes out. . And after a very short wait, carlos with tech support had the answer:. . "you are working in edge. Internet explorer is in the background. To to your search bar at the bottom left of the screen and start to type internet. Ie will popup. Before you click on it right click and pin it to your taskbar so it will be there from now on. Now your system is still set to use edge but you can now bounce back to ie cause it will be there the next time. . Open ie and type your ip address in the url at the top and then install the webplugin. You will probably get a corrupt file warning just right click in the red an run anyway. ". . Fast and effective tech support, good product. What's to not like here. :)

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Vandal Security (ip3m 956eb) FAQ.

Camera is pretty interesting to set up, lots of customization options. However, this specific model does not have micro-sd support. This means that the only local storage options you have are the nvr, if you choose to set that up. This is perplexing as the user manual on the amcrest site for this model has the guide to configure sd card recording. Never does it exclude this model from that feature. And there actually is a slot for it on the camera. Even more confusing. Tech support that maybe in the future this option will be enabled. This camera is not new. Its at least 1- 2 years old. When the hell will it get that. All other features are great. But for the security minded, local (or in network) recording is the only option, so you'll have to get the nvr. This makes the cost of the camera add up really fast. No longer is it a cheap $100 camera (with potential sd card cost) . Now you either pay for the cloud (free is only 4 hours worth) or you build out an nvr. The latter can run you into the $300 range. With time to setup. -Notice from H. Benton, Islington

- . ParkerThe problem, of course, with hard wired cameras is running an ethernet cable to wherever you want to install the camera, therefore, being lazy, i tried to install some battery operated wifi cameras (ring stick up cam). I really wanted them to work, but they did not work for me. . Since, i have purchased three of these amcrest poe (power over ethernet) cameras, and installed them around the house. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras. Running the ethernet cables was a really big job, but i bit the bullet, got over being lazy for a day, and just did it. What a difference having a real camera makes! i am using them with my synology network attached storage and its motion detection (using the synology surveillance station package that comes with the synology nas) is 100% reliable - once properly set up it is giving me 100% true and 0% false motion detection. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison, but imo the amcrest camera build quality is night and day better than the ring stick up cam. . I purchased three of these to use around my house after trying the battery operated/wifi ring stick up cam, which for me was a fail, and am using it with my existing synology network attached storage that i have had for several years. . Now i understand why a hard wired camera is vastly better than a battery camera. It is always watching, and the synology surveillance station package is constantly analyzing the video for motion. (other surveillance systems, or even the camera itself, can do this too. ) once it detects motion, it records a video clip to the nas. Also, you can specify a lead in and lead out time from the time motion is detected to begin and end recording. This is called "pre- and post-recording time" in the synology surveillance station package. This can be set for up to 30 seconds for pre-recording and up to 120 seconds for post-recording in the sinology surveillance package. I have this set to 5 seconds for pre-recording, and 20 seconds for post-recording, so i never see a video beginning with someone walking away from the camera, or a video clip with someone suddenly appearing in the range of the camera, as i often saw on my battery operated cameras. . Rather, what i see, every time, is the person walking up to the the camera, because it is always on and monitoring, and when it detects motion and records the clip to my synology nas had drive it records what the camera saw 5 seconds before it first detects motion, and 20 seconds after it no longer is detecting motion. This just is not possible with a battery operated camera, which must be asleep to save battery, and then is wakened from its sleep and then starts recording. . Amcrest also has a cloud service, which i tried before i decided to use the nas. Their free version is just really for testing, it is pretty limited; i believe their paid version starts at $10 per month. But you can purchase an inexpensive nas for under $200, plus the cost of two hard drives, which do not have to be large expensive drives unless you want to use the nas for other purposes, and the surveillance station app works very well. . These cameras are not on the list of cameras that synology surveillance station currently supports, but i set them up as amcrest ip2m-841b, which ss does support, and they work fine. . I use them with a d-link poe ethernet switch with no issues. . - edit 11/5/2017 -. . Since i wrote this review, synology surveillance station has been updated, and as mentioned in one of the comments to this review now supports this camera. . I have purchased 6 more of these cameras, i now have a total of 9 around my property, both inside and outside and they continue to work very well, and have had no failures. I did receive one camera that had one of the screws for the cover installed so tight that i could not remove it, but returned that to online store for a refund with no issues. . I use the motion detection capability of surveillance station, not the camera. It does take some tweaking in surveillance station to get the motion detection working for zero to very few false detections, by such techniques as masking out areas such as roads where cars are driving, the tops of trees that can move in the wind, etc. , and setting the sensitivity and threshold one of the biggest problems i have had with one of my cameras is shadows on a wall that are cast by vegetation moving from wind, but it is possible to minimize false detections and still detect people, and in almost all of my cameras i now have it down to zero false detections, except when camera changes from day to night, outdoor lights coming on in the evening, etc.

I started buying amcrest cameras a little over a year ago. I started with a few low end 720p cameras and now i have worked up to a 2tb nvr, 4 bullet cameras, my two original 720p cameras, and now this 3 megapixel poe dome camera. I have used ip cameras in the past from d-link and those cameras never seemed to last more than a few months of constant use before the video quality degraded and became almost useless. Since i started buying amcrest i have been quite happy. . I have this camera mounted to the front of my house to watch over deliveries from ups and fedex. Installation was very simple, the worst part of the install was drilling into the brick on my house. I bought a tp-link gigabit ethernet poe injector (tl-poe150s) to power this camera since i was hooking it up to my lan and not directly to the nvr. After giving it a static ip address i was easily able to add it to my amcrest nvr. . Now if you have used amcrest products already then what i'm about to say will be no surprise. For the newbies i have to warn you, the user interface is pretty bad, it is clunky and unintuitive. I have been working in i. T. For over 10 years so when others said the user interface was confusing i figured they were probably just not tech savvy. Well that is not the case, it really is. It will take some time but once you figure out what settings do what you will be fine but when you first start out you are going to be searching though various menus and screens quite a bit. One bit of good new though is that once you learn the amcrest software it's pretty much the same on all the cameras i have seen from them. . I did have some issues with this camera not working in ispy though, i could not find a video stream that was using the full resolution of the camera and every time i turned on ispy it would downgrade the setting in the camera itself. Since i have an nvr this is not a big deal but previously i used all my cameras with an ispy server, if i was still doing so then this camera would probably been returned. . Pros:. -good build quality. -good video quality. -poe is very convenient and works perfectly. -works fine with my amcrest nvr. . Cons:. -the user interface is unintuitive and takes time to figure out. -the connection to the network cable is outside the camera housing and not secure. -have to install an amcrest plugin to view the system via web browser. . Conclusion:. Overall i'm happy with this camera. I took one star off for the poor user interface, the issue with ispy, and for the ethernet connection being outside the camera housing. . Some additional tips:. -for some reason the factory video settings on amcrest cameras are not set very high so make sure you turn up the resolution and frame rates on the camera settings to the highest number your cameras will allow and save.

Amcrest ProHD 1080P POE Power Over Ethernet IP Camera Pan/Tilt, Two-Way Audio, Optional Cloud Recording, Full HD 1920TVL 30FPS, Wide 90 Viewing Angle Night Vision IP2M-841EB Black

This amcrest prohd is finally a finished, updated, and easy to setup and use mini ptz camera. . Setup is easy after you install the amcrest ip camera tool to find the camera on the network. I changed the ip address from the one it got via dhcp. One delight for me was that the firmware on the camera is actually newer than the latest that's available on the amcrest web site. . I was able to add the amcrest prohd to blue iris with little trouble. Hint: add as generic ip network camera, supply the ip address and select discover. Blue iris will find the capabilities and configure to match. Easy peasy. . The 1080p video is very good quality and has an acceptably fast response over ethernet. The field of view is wider, the colors are accurate and the detail is acceptably sharp - much better than the previous products. Best of all the pan and tilt movement is at least twice as fast as the first two generations of foscam cameras, which i have. The zoom function is digital zoom, which you could do in the viewer, but it seems useful. . I'm going to install mine outdoors in a weatherproof enclosure, but don't tell anybody. . Disclaimer: i paid my own hard earned dollars for this product at full price and got nothing for my honest review.

Amcrest Ethernet Optional Recording Ip2m 841eb (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

I'm a broadcast engineer, so i was obviously going to nerd out when it came to a baby monitor. I'm not disappointed - especially for the price. The image quality is not something i'd make live tv with, but it's not bad at all. . I had it going on safari, and iphone in about 10min - tho none of the qr scanning stuff was all that helpful. (i used the ip address finder from the website then hit the ip directly. ). . They lose most of a star because the plug-in required for chrome is awful, and the windows 10 edge browser points to it as well. I'm using firefox on windows 10, and safari on mac - both work fine. But the chrome plug-in is basically unusable. You can view via vlc, but the web / mobile apps are required for the ptz and mic features to be used. . In general, this thing is quite capable, enough that i'm changing all the default port values, as it makes it a lil too easy to get advanced features enabled with potentially very insecure default settings. . Here are some of the unexpected pluses / standout features / config notes:. They have some cloud thing that i've been free to ignore - nice that i don't have to call home to the corporate servers to setup my camera. Works with vlc, also does multicast. Power is via usb, and the included usb to power plug is very thin - easy to fit into a power strip. It also comes with a clip mount - unexpected and useful. I have an apple airport extreme base station as my router, and while upnp was enabled by default, it's mode was not auto by default, but when i enabled auto, it worked perfectly - i did not need to touch my router to get external access working. It's not immediately clear, but "sub-stream" is a 2nd, lower quality, lower bandwidth version of the video - and the ios app defaults to using this - calling it "sd" vs "hd" in amcrest view app (which is the one you need for this camera. ). . I ultimately set my ios app w/ 2 devices, one pointing to the local ip address, the other to my external ip, so i can use it via lte. My main/hd stream is jacked up to max quality, but my substream "sd" is set low enough that loads well even w 2 bars. Nice. . My other 2 dislikes revolve around my inability to monitor if the stream is being monitored. There is no on cam indicator light, and the set up apps do not show you a list of the currently connected users. It's great that i can get external vlc access working so fast, but this feels sketchy when i can't tell who is watching. There is ip/mac address based white-listing, so this can be managed, but i'd still like the admin apps to give me a better idea about connected users. I would not be surprised if i could enable something within the deep alarm system, but this should be a dashboard feature. Last nit pick is that it would be nice if it went to last-position on restart - you'll want to set a preset once you get it finally set up, as otherwise it goes home. . I'm happy, but i'm also taking the time to make sure that this very capable device is moderately secured - it's got all the preference options i'd want, but they'll also require a bunch of manual adjustments. -Notice from T. Bertie, Milton Keynes

Hats off to amcrest for making a very high quality poe camera at an affordable price. I bought two of these for my house. Before i got them, i tried out some very expensive sony ptz cameras that originally retailed for over $2000 (in 2008). The sony cameras were about 5x larger, loud, and did not have night vision (ir illuminators). I had low expectations for the amcrest cameras because of their low price, but they are really terrific. The highlights are: excellent resolution (full 1080 hd), very small size (they can sit on a shelf and be very inconspicuous), quiet operation (including while moving), night vision, easy configuration, great price. I did not need any help setting these up, but i did have a couple questions before purchasing, and the amcrest support personnel responded very quickly and answered all of my questions.

However, this camera's firmware is lacking some very basic functions that foscam cameras offer - most notably direct sd card browsing and management via ftp and no audio alarm push notifications via the android app. This is a huge disappointment as i use my cameras to monitor my dog while i'm at work. I like to know when he's making unnecessary noise or if my neighbors are being too loud again. I've yet to find a decent solution for instant audio alerts.

I like this camera and have a couple of other outdoor amcrests besides this one. As a note, the ptz doesn't appear to work over poe, you have to have it plugged into another power source for that to work. I frankly used the ptz to get the camera pointed where i wanted it, and then have left it alone since. . I have this mounted on the ceiling of my garage, so i will mention like all cameras that have a built in ir light, it does attract bugs, and if they get close to the camera lens, it will trip the motion detect at night since they look like a big white softball when they are right up against the camera. Btw, the software is very similar between different models, so it is very easy to change the configs to rotate the image so it appears correct in recordings. . While this is my lowest resolution camera i have, since its is in an enclosed space, it provided decent resolution. . I'm not a huge fan of the free cloud service you can get with these cams and i record locally to my nas instead. If you do that, you will be recording into a security cam specific format, which they provide a viewing tool for, but the format isn't very compatible with your normal movie software you may have laying around.

Amcrest Ethernet Optional Recording Ip2m 841ew (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

I have 20 of these installed on my home/property and have only experienced a problem with one. I really like the ease of installation and the picture/video quality. My only complaint is with the software for my home computer, and i still trying to resolve that. I have recommended these cameras to several friends and they are all happy with them -Notice from M. Amcrest Nv2108e 8 Channel Network Recorder (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

I bought this device and a "amcrest 4 megapixel ip4m-1025e" to test out the system's capabilities. The setup was surprisingly easy but the documentation is pretty much useless. I basically just started guessing at how to set it up and it was pretty straight forward. Now, that being said, i am fairly tech savvy, so i felt pretty confident in my guess work. . Here is what (in my opinion) you need to know how to do to be successful with this device:. . 1. Know how to install a hdd. It's not complicated, but the instructions do not explain how to install a hard drive (not included, by the way. You must buy your own). If you have ever installed a hdd in a computer, you should be fine. If you haven't, you can probably figure it out with 10 minutes of google. . 2. Know how to set up a router and/or networking switch. Again, this isn't something that's particular difficult but if you don't have much experience with configuring routers and/or networking switches it can have a bit of a learning curve. . 3. Have a general concept of what power over ethernet (poe) is. You don't need to understand anything about poe, but having a basic idea that it exists and what it does will help. . If you feel pretty confident in your ability to do these two things, you should be fine. That's not to say you can't figure it out if you don't know how to do these things, but it will help. . Here's the basic steps to set this up. . 1. Install your hdd (standard 3. 5" drive). I recommend wd purple, but any 3. 5" sata drive should work. 2. Plug your poe camera into one of the camera rj-45 ports. You don't have to use a poe camera, but it's going to make your life a lot easier because you won't need to run a separate power supply to the camera. 3. Plug the nvr into your router using ethernet (make sure you don't accidentally plug into one of the camera poe ports). 4. Plug the nvr into a monitor using rgb / hdmi. 5. Plug the included usb mouse into the nvr. 6. Plug the nvr into the power brick. 7. Follow the relatively simple on screen instructions. 8. Watch / record your security videos. . Once you get the initial set up done, you no longer need the monitor and can log it via a web browser. Just a note, it's a bit wonky and i have to fairly regularly exit and reload the page. But, it's pretty straight forward, not much to it to be honest. . Other than that, that's basically it. Like i said, it was actually surprisingly easy to set up. . Last note - the system seems to record about 500 mb / hour / megapixel. So, the camera i am testing is 4 mp, meaning that it will record approximately 2 gb of data per hour. I will test this some more when the 2 mp camera i ordered comes in. My assumption is the 2 mp camera will use half as much data as the 4 mp. -Notice from L. Julia, Massachusetts

I would first like to thank mr cliff hoyer i was having a major situation which ended up being a minor situation for the amcrest support team. Not only did he take the time to walk me step by step on how to solve this matter. But he was very understanding of the product and any and every question i had he was able to walk me through it and make me a happy man. Good quality product. The software is intuitive and easy to use. After a month i could not remember the password to modify the system and the customer service from amcrest helped with a temp password right away. Good customer service. You will need to buy your own hard drive and make sure it is for security or designed for continuous loop. They just work better.

- S. PattonThe nvr and camera is very nice system. I had to contact amcrest customer service to help set up for email notification. Customer service chester did an outstanding job with helping with the setup. Thanks amcrest cs. Great job. Thanks, alan d.

The only realistic complaint i have is the native dos like interface. It's not real intuitive but it serves it's purpose (thus far). It works well with it's branded (amcrest) cameras, appears to work fine with my dahua camera but simply won't work with my hikvision (which is apparently not following the onvif standard interface); this will be a pricey throwaway. It would have been nice if there was a manual configuration mechanism in the amcrest software that would permit me to code access but such is life; i'll live with and follow in the future with onvif 2. 4 compatible or better cameras. However, on the bright side, there is a desktop application that permits you to effectively bypass that dos looking native interface. If you have a large investment in cameras already, make sure they are onvif compatible before you invest in this nvr (or make the decision to upgrade to that compatibility. . *edit* the nvr is a specialized computer and the language it uses may not (especially in my case) be clearly understood. I need to correct my statement about not working with my hikvision camera. It does work! it's not perfect but the nvr displays, records motion and performs everything i needed it to do. I can always simply log into the camera directly and "configure" those odd elements if the need arises. I increased this rating from 4 to 5 stars and will not give demerits for that "dos" like interface; the demerit belongs to me for not "thinking" clearly while reading the instructions. For those that use any non-amcrest cameras on their system, if your camera says it's onvif compatible, select that name (onvif) from the manufacturer's list when you manually add the camera; it's easy to miss and that choice registered my camera properly. Thanks. . * update *. After a month of activity, my system is working just fine. It took quite awhile for me to figure out how to "configure" the system to record events only. You can use desktop software to review those events stored on the nvr. You can also export those recordings in either the native format or avi. However, the avi format is very poor quality, at least in my situation. Fortunately, there is a viewer automatically downloaded with that export that will permit native format viewing but any 3rd party (e. G. Police) receiving that file may take exception to or be nervous about launching an unknown executable file; i know i was. . Finally, this product is highly technical and requires quite a lot of patience. If your experience is limited to opening emails and web sites, you may want to consider finding someone to help you set this up.

Tried this camera out for the price. Works fine with blueiris. One thing i did notice, is the camera randomly disconnecting, which isn't a deal breaker since it reconnects right away. Blueiris logs show the disconnect but then it comes right back up. I also use rstp streaming via vlc. That is where i discovered the disconnects. . Additional information:. Here is what i used for the rstp streaming url: rtsp://username:password cameraip:80/cam/realmonitor? channel 1&subtype 1

Best amcrest motorized weatherproof 2 megapixel ip2m 848e (ip2m 848eb) in review

I have three of these and all have performed great with no issues. Two are outdoors under eaves and one is inside the garage. The cameras that are outdoors do get exposed to rare rain when strong wind blows it at an angle and this has not caused any issues. We also had some extremely humid weather for several days and this did not cause any issues either. . These cameras are smaller than i expected. I went from old foscam bullet cameras that were larger than a soda can. The old foscam cameras had a few rows of infrared leds so i expected this amcrest camera with one row to not have as good of night vision. However, this was not the case. This camera does just fine after dark. Seems like the led technology has improved. . The firmware used with these cameras is quite good and much more polished than foscam cameras. Amcrest also offers free surveillance software that works quite well. I believe amcrest purchased my favorite surveillance software blue iris and it may have been the base code for their program (this is just speculation). However, the amcrest program is much more basic than blue iris and i believe it will only work with amcrest cameras. All of this is fine with me since it is free, works well, and i really like amcrest cameras. I have used amcrest cameras and software for others and it is working flawlessly. . All this would not make for five stars if the picture was not good, and it certainly is. I know there are higher resolution cameras, but 1080p is just fine for most uses. I mostly view my camera remotely, so that feed is not 1080p and it looks good. I am amazed at the video when i view it from the computer running blue iris. I think it would be hard to find a better camera for the price.

We installed three of this camera about three weeks ago. Love them so far. The picture is fantastic. Even in pitch black. You have no idea the camera is on you and it captures every detail on your silly face! . The software built into the amcrest is great to get you started and create dedicated url's for each camera. Then i moved to blue iris. Bi has a learning curve and now that i think i have it down, i love it. (watch the youtube's and just experiment. ). . I hardwired all my cameras, poe, to a switch, which i had to buy. I have had wifi security cameras and they are not worth a nickel if the wifi blinks out. Yes the attic crawl was super fun, but it is done. Yes, they are stiff and hard to position but once they are in place, you don't have to re-adjust at all. . I can't tell you how good it feels to know you can see if your packages were dropped off at the front door or just tossed against the garage door. (yes, for real. ) then you can text your . And have them pick up the package for you before it walks away. . Advice - change the password on each camera to make them your own and unhackable! it is very easy to hack anything if they kept the admin password on the unit.

Q. Edith, Stockport

I had a little difficulty setting it up but i called customer service and they answered right away and were very friendly and helpful. (my problems were the password on the app defaults to "admin" then when you are logged in they ask you to change the password. But it was blank so i started out thinking they wanted me to create a password. I didn't know i was supposed to put admin in there at first. Maybe that was in the instructions which i didn't read and they will probably change that to a better system after i write this so read your instructions before you use the app). App works great, cloud works great, the actual camera is very well made. Other things i didn't get is i couldn't connect the camera by wifi to see it on the amcrest website, called customer service, they said try the ethernet cord that is provided and that worked. Also i thought it would record 4 hours to the cloud for free and then over-ride the four hours and start again. But no, they provide one 4 hour block of free cloud service just so you can test out the cloud service and see if it works. You can't have any actual cloud service without paying starting at $6 a month. Which is not that expensive. So i bought it. And it works beautifully. I bought this camera for home security and the beauty of it is that if a scoundrel steals the camera, ha, it's too late they are already in the cloud! . This camera was the perfect solution to my security problems and i highly recommend it. All the problems i had were just little glitches setting it up but the camera, the app, the cloud service, customer service are all 5 stars. Once it is set up you can easily move it, say from the front porch to the family room if you want it to watch a pet for the day then easily put it back on the porch for nighttime security.

This has a great picture and a very wide viewing angle! we bought it on sale to keep an eye on the kids playing in the backyard, and was the first of probably a few camera's we'll end up buying. The app connects in seconds and will you view a total of 4 cameras at once. Power for this comes from a 4-port, 48v, passive poe injector. It would have been great if the camera came with one, but unfortunately that was an additional expense. Because of the wide viewing angle and high resolution, you can zoom in digitally. You lose the detail, of course, but not so much that you can't see the image. This camera also has a ring of near-infrared lights around the lens. You can see them at night, but not near as brightly as they appear on camera or as bright as the image appears.

These cameras have an amazing quality and viewing angle. I have implemented them with blue iris but in the latest project i used an amcrest nv4108e-hs nvr which was able to power and view all 8 cameras with ease. The cameras come with everything you need to get them mounted; wrench, mounting template, screws and wall anchors. You need a poe adapter to get power to them unless you buy the power adapters. The web interface is easy to navigate and responds very fast. The amcrest application for iphone and android works great. You can use p2p or open ports on your router to access the camera. Overall if you know the basics in networking these cameras are one of the best in the market. I have used them for both outdoor and indoor projects.

I. Claudia, Hartlepool says

I recently decided to install a surveilance system in my home. I decided to buy a synology diskstation as the nvr and then buy other branded quality cameras to finish up the system. I previously had installed a poe 24v switch that runs two ubiquiti access points in my home. I thouhgt, "hey i've already got the plugs and power so just add them to the switch and i'll be good. " right? wrong. I plugged in the camera and nothing happened. I did some digging and this particular camera apparently uses a 48v poe system. Luckily my "wifitexas" poe product had the capability to run dual power types. I ordered a new 48v power supply and will know more if this solves the problem on monday. As for the product it looks well made, has some heft and looks good. I'm going to install one first and see how the video quality looks then i might add more later.

I bought 2 of these 3mp cameras along with the amcrest nvr. What i really like about them is that all of the guts of the camera are completely sealed in the "ball" with the lens. You adjust the entire ball rather than take off a dome and adjust the lens where the camera is looking. The lens are also separated from the ir leds so there is no issue with nighttime washout or ir reflection back into the camera. Not the most powerful leds but sufficient for the task; makes be believe these leds will live a nice long life. I will be ordering more of these cameras once i get my security layout finalized. Price wise, these cameras give a much bigger bang for the buck and that works for me.

. Meyer, Brighton and Hove says

Easy hardware setup run one cat5 cable to the camera for connectivity and power. To make the network connect more weather proof i used dielectric gel and heat shrink tubing over the rj45 connector. The software (amcrest surveillance pro) took a little bit to figure out recording and alarm area. I purchased a tp-link gigabit poe injector adapter (tl-poe150s) to power camera because my 24 port 1000gb switch is not a poe enable switch. Since we have fiber and centurylink wireless boxes i pulled out the old coax and used the same hole to bring the cat5 cable into the house. A couple weeks after the install caught a couple kids trying to break into my vehicles around midnight. The motion alarm sounded off and by the time i got to the door and they were in the neighbor's driveway. Chased for a couple blocks came back and sent photos to the police department.

The cons:. . Right off the bat, the quick start guide in the box only covers setting the camera up to talk to your network and the mobile app. It doesn't mention physical installation or mounting at all, which i think is a pretty major oversight. Installation is simple, but it's non-obvious if you've never done it before. I had to search online (the user guide on amcrest's website also doesn't have much info, but i was able to find a good youtube video that amcrest had published). Amcrest should really include install instructions in the box, or at least put a note directing people to the youtube video. I'm both fairly handy and tech saavy and it had me scratching my head so i imagine less tech saavy customers being totally lost. . The video feed requires a special plugin on your computer (boo), and the plugin doesn't appear to work with chrome. Offering a product that isn't compatible with the most popular web browser in the world seems like a questionable business strategy, but at least the plugin does work with firefox, so i was able to use that as a workaround. . I did notice that the plugin for viewing video in a web browser did crash a few times, but it's simple enough to refresh the page to get it going again, however, if it is your intent to leave the video feed open in a browser for an extended period of time this may be problematic for you. . This camera uses a pigtail for external connections (power / network). The pigtail is about 12" long and is permanently attached to the camera. The downside to using a pigtail is that if you want to do an "in wall" install (where the cable runs inside the wall / ceiling) is that you have to drill a much larger hole to allow the pigtail to fit through the hole. Not necessarily an issue if the camera never moves, but if you ever take the camera down you'll be left with a rather large ( 3/4") hole in your wall which is much harder to patch than a smaller hole for a single cat5 cable. . The mounting system is designed such that the camera is supposed to be able to move horizontally/vertically in order to aim it, but there are four plastic pieces where the mounting screws go that interfere with the pigtail coming out of the back of the camera so in some circumstances it's very difficult / impossible to point the camera exactly where you want it. . The pros:. . Aesthetically, the camera looks very nice. It's very low profile and unobtrusive. Once mounted, it gives me the impression that it's very secure and will be a "set it and forget it" solution. . Once you understand the install process and the nuances / caveats that go with it, it's very simple. It took me about 30 minutes to install the first camera and subsequent cameras only took about 10 minutes. . Overall, the camera seems to be high quality. It feels sturdy and does not have that "cheap, made in china" feel to it that many lower cost cameras have. . The web interface for the camera is fairly intuitive and easy to use (other than plugin issues mentioned above). All of the usual options (flip/rotate image, change resolution, change frame rate, etc are present). . I'm using these cameras with zoneminder dvr software and they work as expected, no compatibility issues. . Image quality seems to be good (not great - some motion blur, hdr washout, etc) and the night-time ir functionality is much better than the cameras i replaced. . The final thoughts:. . Amcrest can do better on their out of box experience. It would be nice if the cameras had native browser support without requiring buggy or unsupported plugins, but this isn't a show stopper. The mounting system can be a little challenging at first but once you understand the nuances it works fine. Video quality is good, as expected at this price point. All in all, all of my complaints will only be issues on day 1 during installation, after that i'll never deal with them so they're not a big deal to me. I would buy this again.

Love this unit! recently installed one inside a dwelling for a client and most recently (today) two more, one under a covered porch and the other on the outside of a house. These are power over ethernet cameras that plug into a switch or router and are completely independent and do not require a dedicated recorder necessarily. You get 4 hours of free recording in the amcrest cloud and then it loops over. You also have the option to get emails, push alerts through the amcrest view pro app for motion detection and video tampering, downloading to a nas or through an ftp drive, built in night vision up to 100 feet as well plus many other options. . Basically the camera is physically mounted by unscrewing the top white ring above the word "amcrest" in the product photo there you have four screw holes to use provided phillips screws and drywall anchors if needed. Then feed your cable through hole in side of the structure or into a junction box if you're mounting it on a electrical junction box (a 2"x2" junction box works well for this. ) one side note here, if you are putting the cable through a structure or junction box for a clean, flush install you will need a 3/4 inch paddle bit. The ethernet end of the pigtail connector is significantly thick. A 3/4 inch hole fits the connector perfectly. . If you do not wire through a wall/ structure/ junction box, the 8" pigtail connector can be routed out from under that four screw base which has four slots to slip cable under. After you have mounted the four screw baseplate and have decided where you're routing the cable, the cameras has the middle section that you can see below the product image's word, amcrest. The camera sits in this and this is what is screwed in with ring that has "amcrest" printed on it. The camera can be tilted only manually, no motorized pan tilt zoom or one/ two way audio. . This camera can be powered via two methods: a 12 volt power supply right at the camera if you're fortunate enough for a convenient outlet near by. However most the time when in an attic or conduit, etc. This is not the case. Most often people will use poe or power over ethernet. Poe will input the correct voltage for the camera over the ethernet line you are running for the data/ router connection. This is extremely easy and just takes plugging your ethernet cable from camera into a "poe injector" or poe switch, both of which can be found here on online store and then from that particular device to the router then you're set! . . Overall this is a great camera and you get a lot of functionality from the webpage (gui) after finding the ip address through the provided software or your router webpage. These cameras are ip66 water and dust ingress protected and with the cast aluminum body these are not cheap feeling in the least. I love this model and brand of cameras and would definitely recommend them. . Disclaimer: i did not get a discount or free product in return for my honest review. I am just a nerd at heart! thanks!

. Lynette, Wiltshire says

I'm really impressed with the video quality, ir lights / night vision range, and ease of setup. Don't get me wrong, running an ethernet cable through the attic in the middle of summer isn't fun. But i'm really glad i installed this camera. . I have added three images, the camera is about 40' away from an 18' diameter above ground pool. 1. The first picture is in bright daylight. 2. The second is at dusk but honestly looks like a black and white video stream in daylight. 3. The third is at night with the ir lights on. . I'm sure the picture with the ir lights on would be better if so much of it wasn't reflecting off of the house.

N. Rose, Cornwall says

I had purchased an off brand system and my installer advised me to check on an amcrest system instead. Easy set up and good product support. The picture quality is perfect and using a mobile device to view system is really easy.

I bought this to monitor my front door. It works very well. It has a web interface to configure everything. If you point it to an ftp server, you can have it record video. It even does motion detection recording right on the camera. I like the poe (power over ethernet) feature because it means i only have to run one network wire to the camera for power and network (when the other end is attached to a poe switch).

T. Zelda, Sachsen says

I currently have 3 of these dome cameras, 2 of which are being used and the 3rd about to go up. They are great cameras very clear. The infrared shoots a long distance. I have one at the front door and it lights up the whole area on camera and the other is just under the eve of my second story watching the back yard. The infrared on the back yard lights up the whole area i am monitoring and its easily 20+ feet in the air. These cameras should work with any d/nvr that follows the onvif standard. . Comes with a pattern to ensure you drill holes in the right spot before hanging. Base has 4 screws to connect to the wall and a clamping screw around the whole camera that holds it in place very well. The camera is kinda built to give a downward angle just like the picture. If you mount it and try to get a horizontal view the cable at the back of the camera will hit the edge of the mount. Be sure to mount the camera a little higher than what you want to monitor and you wont have a problem. . Great cameras, synced right away with my amcrest nvr which is poe so i didnt have to run any extra cables other than the cat6

Kudos to amcrest for providing a zoneminder howto video on youtube! they've done something that other companies simply refuse to do by not alienating their non-windows users. I had it up and running in zoneminder in less than 5 minutes. I'm happy with the camera so far. The angle is good but has a little fisheye effect. The only reason i knocked off a star is that their web plugin for chromium simply doesn't work. I installed amcrest webview from the chrome app store but still cannot get a live stream from the camera's web interface. Since i'm using zoneminder, i can see the stream in zoneminder's interface and i don't really care that i can't see my live stream in the camera's configuration interface but it would be nice for the on-camera config. I've ordered a second one and will probably get more after that. I try to reward companies that are linux-friendly by giving them my business.

I've been using high-end panasonic ptz security cameras around our home for more than 10 years. The panasonics cost about $800 each when new. They were great in their time, but resolution is 640x480 and low-light sensitivity is limited. . I decided to get some new cameras for our retirement home, but could not afford to spend nearly as much money this time around. My 30 year-old son recommended this amcrest camera. I got one to monitor the front door, to see who is there and to keep an eye on the online store package deliveries when we're away. . This camera has great sharpness, resolution and low-light sensitivity. The poe makes it easy to set up since only one cable needs to be run for both power and video. Because it is an ip network camera, there are many flexible viewing options from desktop computers, laptops and many types of portable phones. It can record sharp video and still photos to a local hard drive or to a remote network drive or to the "cloud". It can send you alerts when something moves in the field of view to let you check remotely to see who is at the door. . Basic camera setup is pretty easy. Step-by-step instructions guide you through. . Setting up for remote access using a pc is complicated. It helps if you have some experience with internet protocols. I had to get help from amcrest phone support. It took about 10-15 mins before i connected with a technician, but tina was very knowledgeable and customer-friendly. Using the teamview remote access software (downloaded from amcrest. Com) tina worked quickly through a bunch of screens and got remote access running through the amcrestview. Com interface. . All in all, i'm very happy and impressed with this camera. It has a fixed field of view, but for keeping an eye on the doorway, that's all i need for now.

I'm very satisfied with this product. It installed easily through a powered connection to my home network. I used pc software called blue iris to interact with the camera (video recording, photo snapshots, trigger on events). The camera views a large room and had the sensitivity to trigger on small movements at the far end of the room. Night vision was a good feature. I'm happy with this purchase.

D. Patton, Knowsley says

I bought three of these and connected them to a tenda tef1105p poe switch. I'm using blue iris software to record and monitor. I have three other types of cameras on my system and these are the best so far. I really like that they include a waterproof connector for your cable. Very clear picture and the nightvision is awesome. Every other ir camera i've used has limited nightvision area and they're basically useless at night except directly in front of the camera. These really light up a good area around the camera. You can't view the live video without a plugin, which means you're pretty much limited to internet explorer if you want to view the live feed directly from the camera. I don't know why so many cameras make that mistake, but using blue iris or your phone works great. Tinycam pro can see the live feed from the camera and from blue iris also.

This is a fantastic product. I have tried lots of different brands - very happy with this wired product. . Pros:. Outstanding picture clarity. Real-time preview. Easy to see past recordings. Excellent customer support. High quality cameras that can be adjusted to any viewing angle. Easy to preview live on pc, and monitor connected to nvr. . Cons:. Must use ie for computer access (no chrome or edge support). Android app is poor - way too many options and most don't work. Just show me 2 things: live preview and easy to access playback! . Nvr ui is not user friendly - you have to call support for pretty much everything. . I just went from wireless (flaky, unreliable, unstable) to wired. Wired is the way to go. . Fortunately they have excellent customer support. I am pretty sharp in the tech area, but with the poor nvr ui and manual, i had to call them several times to get everything figured out. . Using this with amcrest nv4108e-hs nvr, and amcrest 5-port poe+ switch: amps5e4p-at-58 (so i could run 1 cat 7 to garage). . Even with the cons. I highly recommend this product.

Been looking at an inexpensive high quality hd poe camera that's easy to install ( for a novice. Me). This was it. Blown away by how clear and sharp it is.

Y. Shirley, Alaska

I bought four of these to replace a cheap 8 camera dvr system that was about $300. The four cameras plus the blue iris software i bought for it cost more than my entire last system and it was well worth it. The pictures are crisp and clear and the night ir works quite well. $100 per camera of these is a greate value in my opinion. I didn't really play much with the default software packages. I used the amcrest ip configuration software to give my four camera specific ip addresses. I also used the built in web confit page to change some of the basic settings, mostly turning off the text it displays. My blue iris software takes care of time stamp text on the footage so i disabled the cameras built in text, i found it was constantly drifting off after a few days. Of course while i was in the web configured utility i doubt the option for network time sync which would have prevented this drift, but i still have my dvr software write the time stamp. I'm moving to a new house soon and i plant on buying several more of these cameras.

G. Julie, Buckinghamshire says

I am buying a series of these cameras to upgrade an older analog system with zoneminder. They are fantastic replacements for my old analog setup; not too large, easy to install and set up (hardware and software - though i'm technical so i may not be the best person to judge), and so far they are working beautifully. . A few things i've noted:. . The ring can be tough to tighten and loosen. A piece of rubber in your hand can help grip to get it loose the first time. I took another reviewer's idea and put a little grease on the threads and worked them back and forth - a lot - and that seemed to help. You'll want to do this because fighting with that ring while you're up on a ladder or reaching up on the ceiling isn't fun. . One flaw is that the back of the camera (where the cable comes out) maintains the spherical shape of the camera. What this means is that when you mount the base, you need to take into account where the cord sticks out of the camera based on where you want to position it, because there are some positions you can't reach with the camera as the cord hits one of the four mounting points inside the base. You'll know what i'm talking about after you open it up if i'm not being clear enough. The solution is to figure out which way you plan to aim the camera and be sure to mount the base such that the opposite direction from that aiming point is between two of the mount points inside the bracket. I've had better cameras which allow for "infinite" adjustment once mounted, but that is definitely not the case here. . I like that the software forces you to change the password as soon as you set up the camera. This is a good practice and will go a long way toward preventing devices like these from becoming hacked or part of iot botnets, provided these cameras don't have hard-coded root credentials that we're not aware of and are accessible through a firewall. . As i mentioned, these cameras work nicely with zoneminder, and having poe is awesome. I put poe switches on either end of the house so i don' have to run wires nearly as far, and running cat5e is so much easier than dealing with those combined av/power wires on the analog cameras. If you go poe be sure to buy plenum rated full copper cable. Don't use cca cable; it's risky with poe applications. I read on the box that these cameras draw up to 4. 4 watts (i think); i have yet to see them draw that much even with ir on, but i'm only using 720p, a fairly low frame rate, and i turned off the sub stream, etc. So maybe i'm saving some power that way. . Image quality is great (coming from analog, though, i know there's a huge wow factor, like when you got your first hdtv and saw your first ota high def broadcast. There's a bit of fisheye effect toward the edges, but i really like having the wide field of view.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

D. Jacqueline, Knowsley says

Beware! check firmware release on amcrest website. This camera is running 18 month old firmware and does not allow for some of the newer features found in other amcrest poe cameras.

J. Audrey, St. Helens

Camera seems to work pretty good, but the instructions and software are greatly lacking. I am fairly computer literate, but it took me several tries to get everything right. It was just a pain, and i still need to call customer service with my issue.

. Carol, Leicester says

I purchased the amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe dome ip camera in september 2016. It made a good addition to my home exterior security. . The image quality is pretty good day and night. The field of view is okay at about 93 degrees or so. . The user interface for setting-up the camera is much like the other amcrest cameras i have but the font they chose to use for the camera-displayed camera name looks like pixelated text from an old commodore 64. Not impressive. . Physically installing and positioning the camera is a bit of a pain. The metal screw-on collar can be difficult to turn and i found it to be awkward and challenging to get the camera positioned the way i wanted. . This camera has become one of the less reliable cameras of those i've added to my system. The camera goes offline, sometimes multiple times a day, and during that time it is not accessible. Usually it returns after a few minutes but sometimes i have to disconnect and then reconnect it from the poe network switch to get it to reboot.

M. Shawna, Nevada

Good quality, solid camera. I do seem to have issues with it freezing up if i use it in the 1080p mode though. It works for me since my nvr is 720p.

B. Hurst, Hammersmith and Fulham says

I purchased three of these cameras to upgrade from an outdated analog system. . I set up the cameras via an amcrest nvr which was very simple to do. . Once installed and operating, the camera performs very well. The video is bright with good colors in all lighting even at dawn and dusk. If you mount the camera near a night light you will get a good color image at night. In pitch black darkness the ir's kick in for a very good black and white picture. . Except for the following faults i would give it five stars for performance:. . 1. The camera must be disassembled to mount it which would be fine if one could get it apart. The metal ring on two cameras was completely seized up and would not unscrew. Two large pipe wrenches might have opened the camera but i didn't want to scratch and dent a brand new device under warranty. So, i made a fixture with a scrap of wood and two nails locked in a vise to hold the base solidly so i could turn the ring with both hands. With much back and forth twisting i finally got the rings to unscrew. I put a small amount of lithium grease on the threads and screwed the rings back on and off several times then the rings seemed to work ok. The threads on the rings are very rough and make a grating sound when rotating the ring. . 2. After operating just fine the system rebooted per a scheduled reboot and i lost one camera with a message, "the account has been locked. " i worked on this for half a day and could not unlock the camera. So, i called amcrest tech support and was informed that the only recovery for this was to do a factory reset on the camera. This is where it went from slight aggravation to total absurdity. In order to reset this camera one must disassemble the camera, plug-in power to it and short two tiny pc board pads for 15 seconds with a paperclip. Amcrest has an instruction set with pictures showing how to do this. I think this is insane to expect non-technical consumers to perform this reset. I'm an engineer and i think it's crazy. Firstly, these cameras are meant to be mounted outdoors so one must get up on a ladder and bring the camera down. The screws holding the camera together are t10 torx-not a problem for me but the average person probably won't have a set of torx drivers. The camera is poe so to get power to it one must do a balancing act on a ladder or find a way to plug it in directly to the poe source. My poe network switch is on a high shelf in the garage so either way i must be on a ladder. If one slips with the paperclip it could well short something in the camera and render it useless. Amcrest needs to do better than this! . . I removed the scheduled weekly reboot hoping i won't have to reset the camera ever again. If resetting becomes a routine activity i will install a push button on the camera. A foscam camera i purchased a while ago had a pigtail with a reset button. Amcrest, which was foscam, should have continued this implementation.

L. Erin, Champagne-Ardenne

I can only view it from the amcrest apps and ie (shouldn't even exist anymore). I have an insteon hub and the app that i have several foscam ip cameras connected to, but i can't connect the amcrest. I use the owlr app with the same foscam ip cams i use for the hub, but can't connect to the amcrest cam. Kind of annoying. . The camera itself works fine and has decent features, but the lack of flexible viewing options is quite annoying.

K. Pearson, Bath and North East Somerset says

Fine camera, but technology has moved beyond. I used this in a less critical area. Compared to the 4mp cameras i have, this seems blurry. Overall, not bad and priced much better.

W. Meredith, Rhode Island

Camera is great. Software is very lackluster, disjointed, and disappointing. If you plan to get this camera, plan to spend an extra $30 for software like blue iris or a 3rd party cam software. . Let me prefix my review by saying im a software engineer of 10+ years. I am not new to computer or uis. The camera was easy to get installed with poe, detected on my network and has good field of vision as well as color. Night vision is also acceptable on this camera. The night vision ir lights give off a low red dim glow. I assumed they would be invisible and not visible to the naked eye. They are only detectable standing within 10 feet of camera and looking head on. . The problem with this camera comes to the software. There are many ways to access the camera and configure it: desktop software, local webpage, cloud webpage, cloud app, amcrest app. The problem is, each piece of this software is not consistent with the others. The local webpage has a comprehensive suite of tools and so far seems to work the best. The problem with the webpage is that it requires a plugin and only works on ie (you can read the support forums where others have experienced the nightware only to be blown off by tech support). Some functions work in some software but they dont work in others. For example, email seems to work when set up through the local webpage, but not through desktop software. Motion detection is comprehensive through local webpage and desktop software, but configuration is useless through the apps. Upgrading to latest desktop software causes the pc-dvr to completely stop working. So in order to achieve a piece of functionality, its basically a long trial and error process using a combination of the apps to figure out what works and what doesnt. When you try to refer to the manual, you find very little actual help. Most of the labels in the software are generic and have no associated help or description so its trial and error trying to figure out which check box does what. It it obvious this documentation was written by the person who wrote the software. You can tell there is very little end user testing or feedback incorporated into the applications. This leads every complaint to be met with "call tech support" in order to try to work through the problem, and tech support will want to remote into your computer and try to diagnose the issue. No thanks. If they had spent proper time designing and testing the software, 99% of these issues and breakages would be gone. My biggest fear is when a new flaw develops and i am forced to upgrade my firmware, that it will either break my camera or screw up the software in which i will have to do the setup process all again. Its a no win with these cameras. . The cloud functionality is tied into the cloud services amcrest provides. The free tier is for 1 camera and only for motion detect events for the last 4 hours, not the last 4 hours of events captured. Its good for trying out the service but not much useful unless you check the app every 4 hours before events get wiped from cloud. . I currently use this camera to record 24-7 to a backup hard drive in my main computer. . I would personally recommend you skip this camera, and probably skip amcrest as a whole as their software is not ready for prime time.

C. Pete, Doncaster says

Don't buy these cameras unless you love to spend days upon days upon days troubleshooting. Every time the power goes out which happens a lot in my neighborhood, something gets completely messed up and i spend days and days fixing it again. After spending the entire winter troubleshooting all my various problems, i'm still stuck with cameras that won't email me when there's movement (tried everything), and i've never been able to get the app to allow me to view the live feeds unless i'm on site. Yes i've read everything out there on the internet about how to fix it, yes i've talked to customer support, yes i've tried this yes i've tried that. With my latest power outage, the entire system changed ip addresses on me which took me hours to figure out, and only one of my three cameras i've set up has come back online. The app is completely down now and no amount of resetting is fixing it. I'm now going to need to spend money to hire a professional to come in here to sort out these problems. . When they work, they're very helpful and i feel very secure. But dang, what a giant pain in the but these are.

N. Susana, Camden

Good picture and works well with blue iris. Quit responding after 6 weeks though. Problem turned out to be corrosion on the contacts with the ethernet wire. It's working again after a good cleaning on both the wire and the contacts but i expect it will fail again.

Y. Aldana, Alabama says

Not the best camera (especially in low light) but it gets the job done at an affordable price point. I've using it with blue iris and it's been a solid performer.

A. Ruff, Missouri

Easy to install and set up (note, as correctly described, this unit does not come with a power supply). . The app works well, the setup of the camera has a lot of options, down to email sending, etc. . What i'd like to have. + upload to google drive (email, ftp only). + more ddns settings (only limited list of services). . What i'd need for it to receive more stars. + ssl certificate installation. + updated firmware (cipher list is outdated, firefox bails, chrome complains)

P. Sharon, Centre says

I have purchased several (good) cameras from amcrest, so when i saw this i was quick to pick one up. First thing to say is that this camera is quite a bit bigger than their other ptz cameras in the same class. I was a bit surprised by the size (see picture), but the fit and finish are just fine. Just be ready for this one to not be as "stealthy" as it smaller cousins. . But size is not really the issue. The problem is with how the camera zoom and auto-focus work. For some inexplicable reason, the camera constantly will zoom and refocus on it's own without any input from the user. There are several settings in the camera setup, but none of them seem to fix this issue. And i've searched for updated firmware, but so far no luck. The picture quality is good, with nice colors and sharpness, and the ptz controls are responsive. It also works very well with blue iris so no issues there. The other quite disturbing problem with this camera, is the noises it makes. When you pan/zoom/tilt the camera, it will make a quite audible high pitched whining sound, that continues to raise in pitch almost to the point where you think it might "pop" or burn out. . I'm still deciding whether to return this camera or not. But hopefully this information will help others who are on the fence about it. I would stay clear if i were you. -. . Update 8/2/17: i was able to update the camera to the new firmware and the autofocus issues have gone away. Overall, its a decent camera. But i think i will continue to purchase the smaller (non-zooming) ptz's as they are a better fit for my needs.

T. Guest, Peterborough

Camera works well, but was a pain to set up as it was delivered with the default password reset to something other than the default. Not sure if this was a fault of the manufacturer or supplier. Had to unmount the camera and disassemble it to reset to factory. The instructions to reset did not match the actual hardware which made the job more interesting. Works with my synology just fine. Android apps are functional.

. Tracey, Worcestershire says

The hardware works well, once you get everything configured. But configuring is a long, confusing task. The software is ok - however, viewing in the browser doesn't work with any modern browsers . Back to ie :(

S. Nees, Thueringen

I bought 9 of them for a project and it was working fine. One of the cameras starts to go wild. . First, i lost the video signal and i have to power-cycle it in order to get it back on. Then, it disappeared from the network, and reboot for it to come back on. However, after couple times, it's completed dead and no longer detected on the network. Then we tested the ethernet cable with other cameras and it working totally fine. . I like amcrest cameras, but they need to do a better job for qc.

E. Emily, Haringey says

Works quite well and is reliable. However, it would have given if 5 stars if the amcrest app would work properly. Not once has it connected to the stupid app. Quite frustrating.

. Meyer, Basse-Normandie

It s kind of bewildering shopping for security systems. I had no idea how many different technologies were available. There s everything from low rez old school tv lines to full hd 4mp cameras and higher. There are wired poe, analog, digital, hybrids and wifi systems. You really need to go to school before you pop for your system. I chose this one because of simplicity of wiring, relatively speaking, since it has the digital data and power in one cable. Also, i ve had enough nightmares trying to get wifi to work even for a very basic setup, let alone a bunch of cameras and a recorder. I'll start with the hardware. It came well packed and with a decent amount of cabling to wire up my small house with 4 cameras. The cameras are a bit larger than they look in the photos, but they do seem pretty sturdy, except for the connection between the swiveling neck and the base. Even with everything tightened down, there s a little play. Speaking of the base, the camera head can only swing up into a horizontal position through a slot in the neck of the base flange. Trouble is, that slot is perfectly aligned with one of the three screws you need to access to mount the base. If you swing the camera out of the way and mount the base solid, you better hope the camera is aimed in the proper direction since there s no lateral adjustment once it s tightened down. If you aim the camera and tighten the swivel ball beforehand, you can t access one of the three screws. It s a real dance to mount, aim and tighten the swivel screw. It s no reflection on this particular system, but running the cables can be a real pain. I had hoped to tie all four cameras into a poe switch so that only one cable from that switch needed to come into the house. The system was not finding the cameras after doing so and i finally found out through tech support that you can t use a switch with this system! i then had to re-route my cables with all four network cables poked through my livingroom floor and to my router. As for the nvr, it s basically a box for the 1tb hdd. There are no controls on the front at all. The interface it strictly via a crappy, two dollar mouse that s included. Moving on to the software, i ll open with the password. Choose the password carefully - you are going to enter it often and you can t easily change it. You need to balance security with ease of entry when selecting the password. Constantly entering the damn thing with a crude mouse on a lousy on-screen keyboard is painful. Switching between lower and upper case characters requires three clicks! the input is so bad you want to use two hands on the mouse to stabilize it. Fortunately i had a quality wireless usb mouse that helped some. It doesn t really get much better from here as the manual only covers the basic setup and settings. Most of the system features you will have to discover on your own with minimal assistance from google and youtube. For instance, the amcrest system default is to record everything, all the time at low resolution. It took me quite a while to find the settings and get the recording to trigger on motion only in hi-rez. Then you still have to set up zones to trigger or omit recording and balance the threshold and sensitivity to avoid unwanted recording. Good luck figuring out how to prevent recording insects, raindrops, spider webs and blowing foliage while snagging that guy who steals your ups stuff off the porch. I can t imagine how many email alerts i would get daily if i had them enabled. Amcrest gives you no starting point for the settings, only a hard to understand plain english explanation of threshold and sensitivity. It s trial and error. Mostly the latter. I finally have mine setup to trigger on motion, which works sort of ok, but when i go to playback, which has it s own challenges, finding a particular event is tedious. A timeline is shown across the bottom of the screen for the past day by default, and motion events are depicted in yellow bars. Very, very faint yellow bars. The playback automatically starts at midnight and fast forward takes forever to happen. You can try to move ahead in time by clicking the timeline with your crappy mouse, but it seems like you must hit a target of one square pixel to do that. The timestamp travels along the timeline with the cursor but it s almost impossible to see since the contrast is non-existent. There is a button called smart search, but i can t make it find anything. I could rattle on about the details but long story short - the software is unintuitive and not well implemented. With all that negative stuff said, i still find some value in the product. Might be because i have no other experience to start from, but the amcrest hardware still impresses me at times. The hd cameras do a decent job with the 2mp they have, even when zoomed in. The night vision is pretty cool and reaches well out. All in all, i think i can make the thing work for me in light of my simple needs and despite it s shortcomings. It is that fact that kept me from lowering my rating to two stars. You may notice that there is no runaway favorite brand or single product in this category, so good luck to you in finding your security system. I hope this helps.

. Yvette, Hertfordshire says

The cable was shorter than it was described, but the system is easy to instal and use. Thanks!

F. Wanda, Bracknell Forest

So far i like the potential of the cameras. What i do not like is the ip conflicts it created on my network so bad that it locks other ports on my router. Changed router to a smarter router and that helped 90% but it was still dropping connectivity on my wireless devices and nas drive. The cameras designed for the nvr should work flawlessly but i am having problems getting all 4 cameras to come up everytime. If i reboot the nvr, the cameras are certain to get out of sorts. The auto detect has never worked. I hope this is a bad nvr that is causing havoc but my instinct tell me that this setup is very diy and lack some sophistication we expect in 2018. As a hobby, i may get it working better. I am reaching out to their 2nd level tech support and hope to hear a miracle fix but odds are we get half my concerns corrected or replaced but i am sensing the system is not going to be as stable and reliable as i hoped. I will update this the tech support continues.

V. Debra, Alaska says

I purchased this camera in order to extend an existing installation. Unfortunately, it was not easily integrated with our existing nvr.

G. Hadley, Saarland

I am very pleased with this camera. The picture is great. The reason for the 3 stars is do to when i received the camera i noticed the lens or front had a gap on one side. I unscrewed it and it was cross threaded on. I didn't feel like dealing with sending it back so i took a small file and filed down some of the bad parts on the thread so it would sit as it should. I have had the camera stop recording a few times as well. This was fixed by scheduling a nightly reboot. Still over all i am happy with the product and plan on buying the a whole nvr setup soon. I just hope the quality control for it is a little better.

U. Betty, Alabama says

Camera quality is excellent. Software is pretty good outside of having to use ie to view the cameras on the web. For the price, there should be a secondary slot to add a secondary harddrive for a mirror raid configuration. Having only one harddrive scares me in the scenario where it were to fail.

R. Wilson, Hounslow

I like the video performance, but the mechanical design is so so. Unfortunately, the product support is not good.

O. Brenda, Barking and Dagenham says

I didn't realize this was a black and white camera. Other than that it's an okay camera. The image is good enough at close distances and the ir helps at night. My driveway is about 18 feet long and you could probably tell who someone was if they were standing at the end. I bought a different amcrest poe camera for the other side of the house that works much better. I wouldn't recommend this camera over their other ones. Spend the extra 10 dollars or whatever and go for something better.

Q. Anonymous, Florida

Overall, the system worked as advertised. I'm have an issue with one camera that i think might need to be replaced. I haven't had time to address it with the holidays. Will reach out to support & update this after seeing how they respond. . I do have some regrets not going to a higher resolution camera. The hd is good, but i've been playing with 4k with significant success. Just couldn't justify the increased cost of 4k yet.

. Mary, Durham says

Camera and nvr hardware works great. Camera exactly as expected, and works great at night. 5 stars for that. I am disappointed with the software, and the app on my mobile (android). I am struggling to see the video associated with motion detection alarms, for example.

I. Denise, Arkansas

Not what i expected from amcrest in quality. In daylight it performs as i would expect a 2mp wide angle cam. At night it's almost useless. The ir leds project in a tight focused beam giving you a 15 code of extremely bright light in the center of the image. Not what you want in a camera with 128 degree view. Additionally, because the leds project through the clear dome - make sure you thoroughly clean all of the fingerprints from factory assembly off of the inside and outside of the dome or the camera will be completely blind at night. Time will tell how dust accumulation on the outside of the dome will effect the camera at night.

H. Patricia, East Riding of Yorkshire says

Just be aware that this particular 4ch nvr being sold as a bundle with this kit "will be under-powered" if you want to run you 1. 3mp cameras at full 960p resolution. You cannot even run one camera at 960p resolution without seeing the results effecting this nvr. Amcrest simply should have sold 1mp camera's with this unit. Maybe some people may feel i'm just being picky, but felt i should have been able to operate this system with the camera's at their native resolution. Their marketing material makes it sound like it can do more than it actual can. . What was happening? the clock on camera 4 would skip ahead every 2 seconds. This resulted in any motion capture look "really jerky". However, playing back any recordings from "all four" cameras skipped ahead every 2 seconds! but, this never would happen on the android app. I however am using a 24" color monitor and cannot live with this jerky motion. The only way to resolve this issue complete is to lower the camera's resolution from 960p to 720p. Not 1 camera, or 2, or even 3, but all 4 cameras have to be turned down. . Aside from this issue, everything else went well. The images looked sharp and clear. Installing, connecting and using the android app was a snap! wished i could say i was impressed with amcrest customer service, but i cannot, i kinda of have a bad taste in my mouth on this one. But hey, overall i liked the system enough that i just sent this system back and got the amcrest system with the more powerful nvr, and i can differently tell the difference.
