Review for prohd outdoor megapixel poe bullet

Price was $79.99. Hopefully, these will provide long service with no failures, but time will tell. I initially bought this amcrest 3mp poe and a foscam 19900, and haven't had alot of time to play with them but, i am going to buy two more these due to the following reasons. - the amcrest seemed to have a nice clear picture optically, where the foscam is blurry around the edges. - the amcrest runs roller then the foscam. - the night vision seems much more full and not directed like the foscam. . Things i don't like. -mounting these to the underneath of my over hang sucks, i cannot get full range of motion, it needs to be able to swivel left and right after mounting. This cannot happen due to left and right are set due to the fixed mount (screws), . Yes i could manipulate it so it would move left and right (not evenly) but then the problem would be up and down. -mounting again, . These need an extender (to bring it down from the overhang more) or maybe just an included optional mount that would allow for a fully adjustable underneath/overhang mount. -software seems very rich and full of options, but is less intuitive than the foscam in my opinion. It didn't want to work well with safari at first, . Specifically it wouldn't let me download the plugin needed to view the video at first. Not sure why. But it did work later. . Recap, good picture, 3mp, power over ethernet, price was good, but mounting needs to be tweaked for us that want to mount to an overhang on our house and building. Mounting to the side of a structure is more intrusive, more work and damaging than mounting to the overhang.

Foreword

Purchased this to keep an eye on my mailbox after i was a victim of mail/id theft. Solid, aluminum unit. The adjustable cover on the top does not really do much as it only extents for a maximum of 1/4" or so. Was easy to install (against wall under an eave; i used a junction box to cover the cables and connectors, it's quite a bundle with separate poe (waterproof) and power connector), and it worked right away. Tip: do not crimp the ethernet connector on your cable until you have the camera, as it needs to feed through the supplied waterproofing sleeve first. I am using a poe injector. I will probably get more and then upgrade the injector to a poe switch. The image quality is excellent, as well as the integrated web based interface. I have a wd nas that comes with a milestome arcus surveillance app, but i decided to just use the camera's interface and management tools and store the streams and motion detection triggered snapshots to my nas. The iphone app gives a quick live view. Will probably get a couple more of them to monitor the entire perimeter of my house. Amcrest prohd outdoor 3 megapixel poe bullet ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 3mp 2048 tvl , ip3m-954e white Review (ip3m 954ew)

Excellent system but to avoid problems use with amcrest cameras if you can. . I bought this system with 4 more 3mp cameras for a total of 8 cameras. The first impression unpacking it, is that this is a quality product, well packed and built with good materials and the finish and quality is very good. . The nvr comes with a 2tb hdd power supply and a thick manual (which is good). Cameras are a little bit heavy because of the solid metal it is built with but not too heavy. . 4 ethernet cables are included, 2x 60ft and 2x 100ft. The cameras come with a waterproof connector if you want to build your own cable. . Installation is not difficult, just connect the power on the nvr, connect the cameras with the provided ethernet cable, connect the nvr to a router and that is it. You can view the video feeds on your tablet or phone using the amcrest view pro. In the app, scan the nvr qr code and if everything is connected properly you should not have any problems. . Excellent video quality with the 3mp cameras i'm using. . The nvr has so many possible configurations is a little bit confusing sometimes. This was not a bad thing for me but can be a problem for some users. For example the recording schedule is set to default to record at all times. You have to change that otherwise it is going to use a lot of storage space, and to change it to motion recording only is not intuitive. . The only problem i found is the limited camera support for not amcrest branded cameras, if you can make a different ip poe camera to work with this nvr great, if not, amcrest support says: "sorry, nothing we can do". . So make sure you not amcrest branded cameras work with this nvr before you even try to run your cables. . Another thing about this system is that it creates a separate segment on the network, so it becomes a subnet. It is good for amcrest camera connectivity for bad for others. One way to overcome that is to connect the cameras to a poe switch and have the nvr find the cameras on the network. . The amcrest view pro app works very well, push notifications works fine and email notifications as well. . If you received a coupon for online store use it before it expires, they don't last long. Or you can purchase directly from amcrest. Com and they will give you 10% discount if you ask nicely. -L. Barbara

PROS
  • I got the 8 channel nvr with 4 -3mp cameras. This product worked exactly as expected. The only problem i had was that the motion detect snaphots were not appearing in my email alerts. I submitted the issue on the amcrest website and they set me up with an appointment the same day. The amcrest technician was excellent. I appreciated that it was a us based person so that it was easy to understand what he was saying. Sorry, this does make a difference in customer service experience. The technician ported into my pc and spent about 45 minutes patiently working with me to resolve the issue. He even got another tech involved at some point. A week later i am still tweaking the settings of sensitivity vs threshold so that i do not get 50 false alert messages every night but that is apparently just what you have to do since there are so many variables to deal with. . As far as quality of product, the cameras are very solid and i am hoping they will hold up for a long time to warrant the higher price i paid for this system as opposed to some of the mass marketed options. The nvr seems to be a good piece of electronics. One of the reasons i selected this product was that it came with a 2 gb hard drive - which should be enough to allow 20 to 30 days of 4 channel recording in always-on mode. . We are glad to have the extra 4 channels for later camera addition. We would need to add to more external cameras to get 100% monitoring of the house (view of all windows). But we are more likely to add one or two interior cameras which can be remotely aimed and zoomed. . I spent a very long time shopping for nvr/camera systems - looking at maybe 20 youtube videos before i made my choice. I fully recommend this system to anyone wanting to hit that balance between quality, service and cost.
  • I had a foscam ip camera that was 3 years old and continually having to be physically rebooted (unplug, replug, reboot), so i upgraded and went with a poe and nvr setup. This camera works much better than my old foscam and it was a significant upgrade as far as resolution and ease of getting electricity to the camera so i am happy with that. I work with computers so i was able to get my poe, nvr, and poe switch set-up eventually, but it is not for the faint of heart. The software for the camera and nvr is beyond terrible (it's the same software for the camera and nvr). It is worse than the old foscam software and i thought that was terrible. To say it is not intuitive is an understatement. The instructions make no sense. Getting the nvr to recognize the camera took multiple reboots. The amcrest nvr does not even list its own amcrest cameras in the pull-down camera selector. My laptop was so horrified by the security issues in the software i had to create an exception to allow the pages to load and the gui looks like it was built by a high school kid in 1998. I knew that for the price it would not be awesome software but wow. This is amazingly bad. They've added a lot of variables and "functionality" to the software that just add to the confusion and most don't work exactly how you would think. It took me about a week of working on the setup and the software a little bit every day to get it to do what i wanted (record motion to the nvr and send motion-triggered images to my email) but i think i have it working well enough. So at the moment i am happy enough with the camera but i would not recommend it for someone who has not worked with terrible software before or who wants a camera up and running immediately.
CONS
  • The picture quality isn't as great as you would expect, and the field of view leaves a little to be desired, but for the price and the feature set it is a very good camera.
  • This is awkward to write as i appreciate the opportunity to do business with you and desperately wanted to like the product however, as wonderful as it operated during the day when we tested it at night prior to installing it the night vision was terrible. I compared it to a foscam and the foscam was "much" better at night but not as great as this camera during daylight. Add to this i also tried the amcrest ptz and had issues with it and there is solicited misinformation. I spoke with technical support in houston and they were not able to resolve the issues. I understand that they private label another's product so real time in house technical support was moderate; yes they tried and were very nice but they simply could not answer questions nor resolve key issues. . Takes care
  • If you are using an apple mac computer there is no way to locally store videos or photos triggered by motion. I spoke to technical support and they said the only option for local storage of automated recordings is to buy an amcrest video recorder nvr, a $250-300 piece of hardware, and interface it with my system. Pc users can save recordings directly to their hard drive, or use a network attached storage drive (nas). But if you have a mac and you don't want to use the cloud then you have to spend more. Amcrest advertises its ios app however don't be mislead-it only allows for realtime viewing of the camera. I already had the cameras wired in and the required multi port poe injector and am forced to spend more money now on hardware i do not want. Mac users should be warned before purchase that local storage is not a real option so they can look elsewhere.

The picture quality from the cameras is outstanding. Setup of the system, once installation was completed, was thoroughly covered in the documentation however i would have liked more information about the cameras in the documentation. . The system cam packaged very well with a large box containing three smaller boxes. Everything was packed in such a manner so as to not cause damage to the cameras or nvr. . Installation of the cameras can be as complex or simple as you wish to make it. The system comes with two 60' and two 100' cat 5e ethernet cables. They are pre-made with snagless connectors on each end. For my installation, i ended up cutting the ends off, which actually helped since the weather cover for the outdoor connection was not preinstalled on the cabling. If you desire to have that cover on your outdoor connection, you'll need to cut the end and add a new connector. . I did have a little trouble with the remote viewing app as there is nothing in the provided documentation on how to set it up. Once it was setup, viewing is a breeze. The picture quality is the same as if you were viewing it on your tv monitor.

Click to see NoticeAmcrest Outdoor Megapixel Bullet Security (ip3m 954ew)"I'm building my home surveillance system piece by piece and these are a worthwhile addition. In my opinion these are very well-built cameras, and i plan to order more of them to complete my system. Heavy-duty cast aluminum case, and glass dome is heavy and seems sufficiently thick. Sealing arrangement is very good. The o-ring is arranged so mounting holes are outside of the sealed area, and a small bag of desiccant is fastened to the wires inside to absorb any moisture that finds its way in. Documentation consists of a quick-start guide (in decent english! ) which provided enough, but not an abundance, of information and a small cd with the configuration utility. I didn't use the cd and instead visited the maker's web page and downloaded the latest version. The utility s/w quickly and easily found the 2 new units i added to the network and it was easy to re-name them and change the pw and network settings and to update the firmware. The camera supports a web-based viewer that i tried out but won't use use for anything than verifying camera operation and adjusting the lens position. It required several add-ins/plug-ins be added to the browser (i used firefox) and frankly the picture quality wasn't good and at first i was disappointed. . However under blue iris it is a different story. Blue iris has the config file included for these and they integrated perfectly with only a click or two. Resolution both day and night under blue iris is very sharp, clear, and well-focused and i found no reason to change the default settings. The ir illumination is sufficient but seems a little weak compared to the bullet-style cameras i have in my system (but maybe i'm expecting too much from these rather smallish cameras in a dark outside location. ). . My only real complaint is the lens will not move more towards the horizon than the picture in the online store listing shows. I mounted one on a low roof overhang (no other mounting options, unfortunately) and although the cam works fine, i wish i could move the lens more towards 90 degrees from the mounting plane to better view the area i want to protect - as it is i see a lot more of the ground than i like. The camera/lens body moves around easily but there is a pin that stops the lens if trying to move it towards the horizon. I cut the plastic pin off but still couldn't move it much further because the lens assembly then bumps the circuit board, and i will probably replace it with a bullet cam in the future. If mounting the cam on a horizontal surface the cam needs to be elevated otherwise you will have a lot of ground in the picture. Not the cam's fault certainly but something to consider when planning your cam's placement. . There is a slot for a micro-sd card on the camera's mb but i didn't try it out and don't recall it being mentioned in the documentation. Just noting that it is there. Right next to it is the hard reset button if you forget your password or screw up the configuration. . Overall i am very satisfied with these and plan to add a few more around the house as the budget allows."

(0) Question: Does it come with a 110v power cord for power supply?

(1) Question: What is your setup? do you use an nvr or use some cloud/ftp outside of amcrest cloud?

(2) Question: Is this camera remote ptz or fixed? and, can this camera be used as a standalone device or does it need an nvr for stream / cloud record?

Bought this nvr for my indoor cameras, works as expected. There is a lots of option that might me missed by many people like me who are not tech savy . Pretty good system for the price. I paired it up with the amcrest 5mb bullet camera. Some distortion in the picture but overall pretty good. Haven't tried the internet access gui yet. Tried the password nteenet gui and it works great. One of the best systems for the price i have tried. We have beverly expensive honeywell equipment at work and these nvrs are every bit as good.

TP-LINK TL-PoE150S PoE Injector Adapter, IEEE 802.3af compliant, up to 100 meters 325 Feet

It's a poe injector - it sends 15v on the brown pair of wires! it works well, and has not given me any issues. I use it with tp-link ac1200 and it works as advertised.

View larger the poe injector tl-poe150s fully complies with ieee 802. 3af standard, and can work with all ieee 802. 3af compliant pds (powered devices) and poe splitter such as tp-link s tl-poe10r, to expand your network to where you wish to place pds but has no power outlet. Pds include but are not limited to access point, ip camera, voip phones. How it works (1) for 802. 3af compliant powered devices on the input side, connect the injector to its power adapter and a data source such as a router or a switch. Bought two of these, they are great. I am knocking off a star simply because they came with a cat5 cable and not cat5e. It does not affect performance, but cat5 was deprecated in 2001, and knocking off a star is as close as i can get to a wag of the finger.

They are cheap, good quality ip cams. The ir goes far and the picture quality is very good, even at night. The web interface does not have too many bugs. I do have all my ip cameras on their own subnet without internet access. The amcrest cameras do try and reach out to amcrest's servers all the time, even with the "cloud" option disabled. They works well with blueiris. The only big downside, is the video they record by ftp is not a normal mpeg file. It's some strange format. This should be normal mpeg so i don't have to convert or load up a special player to play it.

Amcrest Prohd Outdoor Security Camera (ip2m 844ew) FAQ.

I really like this camera. I was looking for a camera system which i could easily put up myself and was not disappointed when i ordered a few of these, an amcrest nvr and a hard drive. I had the required tools needed to terminate cat5 cable and made a saturday of it. The power over ethernet is fantastic for this use case requiring only a single wire run to each camera install. . The picture quality is great. I do miss the pant / tilt / zoom on these camera's but it's certainly a "nice to have" in my particular situation. I haven't tried the speaker connection but i expect it would perform equally as well. . The amcrest recording & playback interface is great but if you are a mac user it can leave a little desired. I had to use firefox and the ip config tool in tandem to review / manage my system. Although a bit of a pain - certainly not a deal breaker. For the price - these camera's are well worth the money. -Notice from X. Bullock, Leicestershire

Great cameras. Excellent quality. We finally found a solution for our network baby monitors! we can now be over at a neighbor's house and still make sure our kids are sound asleep. (you don't even have to be connected to any wi-fi network, the amcrest app automatically port-forwards your network cameras to be viewed on your mobile device and works great even on a basic 4g sprint network! ) the best thing about these cameras is that there are dozens of 3rd-party apps that work with amcrest cameras. We purchased tiny cam pro app because we liked the feature it had to play sound from all cameras simultaneously, a must for baby monitors. The regular app is great, it looks nice and is easy to use. Occasionally, it takes a few moments to display all cameras right away when opening the app. But we haven't received any drop-outs or lag once the camera is loaded, a must for baby monitors. When we are downstairs in the office and the babies are napping, we can view/listen to the cameras on our desktop computers in any open web browser. The quality is fantastic even at 720p and we've found ourselves just grinning at how cute our babies are! . . The reason for not giving 5 stars we were having issues with the cameras not detecting the light correctly in dim/dark settings. The cameras would constantly switch between day and night vision modes. The good news is the amcrest community forums are excellent, and we found a temporary work-around for this until they fix this in a future firmware patch. You have to go into the camera's settings via web browser/ip address then set the shutter mode to manual and speed set to 1/30. This prevented the auto mode from trying to find the perfect shutter setting in low light conditions. . If you're like us and need a network baby monitor that works no matter where you are in the world, and are frustrated with wi-fi baby cameras that cannot provide the reliability of a hard-wired network camera, these are the cameras for you. Absolute peace of mind.

Amcrest Ethernet Optional Recording Ip2m 841ew (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

This cam has a wide field of view(fov) compare with other internet cams, which is good. For a cam with wide fov, the objects appear small; while for narrower fov cam, the objects appears larger. So to make motion detect work for this cam, you need to adjust the sensitivity higher. -Notice from C. Kelly, Connecticut

Really easy to setup just load app, plug it in, scan the code on the camera and add the camera to your list. The panning is a little buggy on my cheap phone (not like a smooth video game). I like that it has audio two way audio, i think it will be good for remote troubleshooting of our instruments at work. I bought a couple for work to monitor instruments/users and help them when they run into a jam. I like that you don't need a dvr, just upload to the cloud somewhere.

Great quality cameras. Setup process was easy, and the ios app is perfect to view live, playback recording, and control the position of the camera. Highly recommend.

- D. DonnaThis inexpensive machine has a lot of functionality, and now that i have it (mostly) set up, i'm very pleased. Much better than paying for network recording/storage for four cameras. But: it is really difficult to set up. The "quick start" manual is itself 89 pages long (! ), many commands don't work as described and i had to do a lot of web search to get answers to my questions particularly regarding remote access. Then there are all sorts of related problems having to do with amcrest software not working that aren't specific to this device. Also it's worth highlighting that this does not come with the hard drive, that has to be purchased separately. I like that because you can get whatever size you want, but it's an extra step if like me you don't read the product description carefully enough.

Been using this for quite some time and it works very well. Have 2 hardwired and one wifi camera (more on the way) and not a hiccup out of it. Nice capture and playback. Would highly recommend.

The F.A.Q. for amcrest prohd outdoor 3 megapixel poe bullet ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 3mp 2048 tvl , ip3m-954e white

The ip3m-956e is a pretty nice camera . It works with zoneminder if that is how you want to hook it up. I have not gotten it mounted outside yet so can't say much for how far the irs will throw but i don't need much. The way the cabling for it is hooked up is kind of odd. It has an extra cable that i assume is for power that i am not sure what you would do with if it was outside(maybe silicone it up). The ethernet cable seems quite long and it does have a waterproof connector on it which seems odd but i suppose in some applications people will be happy to have it. . Picture quality is good considering i have not taken off the protective plastic. It is kind of annoying that neither of the amcrest cameras i have don't do dst automatically. So i set the camera to gmt rather than mess with it. The chrome app they have is pretty awful but for just verifying that the camera works it is mostly functional. The android tablet app is actually pretty good so if all you want is a video feed that is a good option. For just changing the settings any browser will work. . One odd thing is that the ipm-hx1b indoor camera from amcrest supports snmp where the ip3m-956e does not. Not sure what i would monitor with it but it seems strange that the cheaper camera has it and the better one does not.

A number of questions have been asked here.

I'm not a security professional, and this review is based on my experience with my home-built ad-hoc security and monitoring system. . I have several brands of cameras including three amcrest dome style cams in my system, this being the first "bullet" style amcrest i have tried. The domes work great under both blue iris and zone alarm and like them, this camera was easy to set up and trouble free once you learn the tricks of using the amcrest device manager software to get a fixed ip and gateway addresses assigned. . Sharp picture with good color and the ir lighting is adequate. I am skeptical about the claimed 90-some odd feet of illumination, but within the 40 feet or so of the pool area i am monitoring, it is ok. This cam seems to stay in color mode later in the day than any of my other security cameras. The camera barrel is quite short and the whole cam is smaller than i thought it would be from the online store picture. Its size makes it unobtrusive. The case seems very well constructed, feels solid with a nice weight, the pivot ball is snug yet easy enough to move for aiming, and the coating system on the case and mounting pad is good. Do yourself a favor and give the included mounting screws a toss and use something like coated sheetrock screws or good quality stainless. The smallish diameter of the mounting pad makes it difficult to get a straight-on angle when driving the screws and i found the phillips cross on the included screws to strip easily. . The black thumbscrew on top you see in the product picture is to hold the sliding sun shield hood in position it comes out of the nicely-padded box with the hood fully extended and as you can see it doesn't go out very far, extending over the front of the cam by only about 1/2". I mounted this cam under an eave of the house and out of direct sunlight to monitor the pool and spa, so no problem with sun glare, but be aware of this possible problem if your mounting location is exposed to the sun. . The rj-45 jack pigtail comes with a screw-together plastic enclosure and grommet rings to help keep the connection dry. How effective it is i don't know but if your connection is exposed to the weather i suggest also wrapping it in first rubber then vinyl electrical tapes or a piece of shrink tube to make sure. The pigtail also has a dc jack for powering the cam if you don't use poe. No protection was included for this so i just taped it up and hoped for the best. . So far i am quite pleased with this addition to my ever-expanding monitoring system. Now i need a bigger hard drive!

I'd give the one 4. 5 stars. Added this one in addition to my foscam and dahua cameras. This one has been the most adjustable one so far with the ability to swing the camera and angle 180 degrees. It's also the highest resolution camera in my collection. All functions are working as advertised and the installation went well and didn't take long. The only design change i would make is with the cable connector. I'd like the option to connect it to the main board so that i could have fed the cable through a smaller cat5 sized hole, rather than a larger hole to accommodate the rj45 plug. There's no room in the housing for the cable and connectors, so if you want those fed into the wall or surface where the camera is being mounted, you just need a larger hole to feed the cables back into. Not a big deal, i just like smaller holes in my house where possible. (the dahua cameras had enough room behind the housing for the cable and connectors, so you can just feed the cat5 through a small hole in the house and crimp an end on it. ) i mounted this camera right into the aluminum eves with the screws provided, still seems to be strong enough. I recommend a bead of silicone caulk around the mount to plug up any holes where spiders and wasps might try to make a home. Using this camera with the blue iris software. To get the ip i downloaded the amcrest configuration utility and it discovered it with no problems.

got this little gem six days ago from online store. I had it out of the box and working indoors in less than 15 minutes. The most difficulty i had was that i didn't remember to write down my password and then to find the reset button. The reset isn't really very noticeable. Once i reset, i did the process over again with my phone and voila! the qr scan for the code worked perfect. Once we drilled the hole through the wall, it was fairly simple to run the cord from the camera through. The camera has about 8 inches of cat6 (female) and a plug in case you don't use poe. You still need the male cat6 to go from the camera plug to the injector. The injector did not come with any cat6 either, so i purchased a 10 ft length to go from the injector to my verizon box. I had played with the camera before installing outside on the wall so i was very familiar with how to tilt it to the angle i needed and then rotate the lens so the picture wasn't sideways or upside down. The night vision isn't what i had hoped. It's ok if i know the people and cars that are in the pictures. But i am having a stalker problem, driving by my home. The police need it on film/pic, his car. Even zooming in is not going to work, and even getting a tag number on my own vehicle at night is virtually impossible, even at the closest distance. So that's going to be impossible with this camera. Daytime video is excellent and then some. At dusk, i can at least determine make and model of vehicle. The video i included is actually at night, midnight, and looks to me to be a cop because of the security light. I also must say that the motion trigger turns on the camera before that person/car etc is even in view! i am using the amcrest cloud, saving only 7 days of video. I am also using amcrest view and amcrest cloud on my android phone and have had no issues what so ever. I have used both apps while at the grocery store, the mall, and while on the road, no issues. The issue other folks may have with the email alerts, i just made a gmail address specifically for my camera. Otherwise my regular email address would be filled up! i think this will be most useful for when i am out of town. It's easier for me to check the cloud the next day, and review each event. I am seriously considering another camera, the bullet style. Putting this one out back to view my porch and front door. The max length of cat6, the company told me, is 300 ft. That's a nice distance for those that don't want to hard wire or don't have an outlet handy. Besides, wireless can be a fickle thing sometimes. I also had to purchase the injector, and went with the tplink, as i have verizon and my box did not support poe. Having never had a security camera before, maybe i was expecting too much. Total install 30 minutes. I spent more time just playing with the software. I highly recommend this camera, based on ease of installation and use. I only gave four stars because i was hoping much better for night vision. My kindle does not support their software.

I just unboxed the camera, setup took about 10 min (some basic network knowledge and casually reading through all the settings). The box contains only the camera, mounting screws, and documentation on mini disk. Amcrest made a welcome change i have been hoping for. They now include a weatherproofing fitting for the ethernet connection, although you must put an unfinished ethernet cable through the weatherproof connector 1st and then terminate it with a plug, so make sure you have the proper tools if you planning to use it) ! as expected the web interface for the camera is much improved over some similar foscam models i have. Also plays rather well with blueiris (though camera is so new it doesn't yet have its own model listing in blue iris 2/22/16), but does work ok with the amcrest/prohd 1080p setting (which the camera still displays at full resolution higher than 1080p). Overall i am very pleased with the improvements, especially for the price. I will update after a few months if something changes. . There aren't clear instructions for how to assemble the weatherproof connector, but 1st you take the main body of the connector and place the little rubber cylinder with the rib facing inwards toward the connector into the end with the plastic "fingers" protruding. Then you run your unfinished ethernet cable through the connector nut and through the rubber cylinder/main body assembly, then you terminate your cable with a plug (8p8c or known commonly as an "rj45 plug"). Lastly place the large rubber o-ring around the female ethernet port from the camera, with the chamfer facing toward the main body or the connector, plug in the cable, screw it all together and done! (check photos). . Note: since this is a poe camera, for safety it is wise to ensure your ethernet cables are solid copper and at least 24 awg.

I currently use an analog lorex dvr system that's getting a bit long in the tooth. The latest generation uses ip cameras (digital) that go over cat-5e or cat6 cabling and get recorded onto an nvr (network video recorder) instead of a dvr. The best nvrs are actually nas (network-attached-storage) machines. If you're familiar with nas's, their primary duty is to preserve/replicate/serve data, and often use multiple hard drives for redundancy and performance. My old single-hard-drive dvr just wasn't cutting it anymore, and is so expensive to upgrade, since you have to toss out your old hard drive and buy a completely new one that's at least as big as the old, without any re-use of the old disk. . Anyway, long story short - i'm reviewing different ip camera manufacturers and was very happy to accept this camera provided by amcrest to do a review and compare/contrast against my lorex 1080p analog cameras. My results - the amcrest camera is leagues better than my old analog system. I think i've found a worthy successor. . Pros:. - everything is metal! the hood, the camera body, the elbow joint, even the base are all powder-coated metal! i'm sure these cameras are strong enough to withstand the elements. - there is no noise in the video feed! while the lorex cameras are able to provide a very good signal, when the cable runs are very long, forced around sharp corners, and placed near electrical lines, a lot of emf noise is introduced into the analog video signal. What i'm faced with is static noise in the form of bands that move across the video. With the ip camera, data is transferred over error-checking tcp/ip, which strips out the noise in the video signal. Awesome! of course, if there is a lot of interference present along the cable run, the image quality will go down as the bandwidth drops - netflix does the same thing with their video streams. - setup via the amcrest live view app on my iphone was a breeze. Ironically, it looks like the underlying app used by amcrest is the same as the software source that lorex uses to build their flir cloud app! funny to see software re-use like this. But the good news is that navigating the app was second nature to me, coming from the lorex app. . Cons:. - camera is slightly longer, but just barely. - instructions mentioned the camera comes with an ethernet cable - it doesn't (but this isnt' that big of a deal). . I've attached a few pictures of the video feed:. 1. Amcrest live view of my red car in my garage. 2. Lorex live view of my patio. I'm not sure if you can see it, but there is noticeable static noise in the video feed (more apparent when i've got it running full-screen in 1080p on my desktop monitor). . Overall, i like this camera and its 1080p noiseless video quality. As it stands, this will be the model of cameras that retires my existing lorex 1080p analog dvr system. Highly recommended. Please note - this review is based off of a discounted review sample from the vendor. If you think this review was helpful, i d greatly appreciate your feedback & support by clicking on the "yes" button below. Thanks! : )

I've been using this camera for almost three weeks and love it. The picture is crisp and clear, and install was quick and easy. . For the price you really can't beat this camera. It's fixed focus and fixed position, so you need to put some thought into placement. For example, on the peak of our house pointing at the driveway, it covered the driveway and parking, and was clear enough to read license plates. If your software has an alarm feature, this can also let you know when someone pulls in your driveway. I suggest attaching it temporarily (i've hung cameras from a small nail, used duck take, attached to a ladder, etc. ) then using your software to check the location. If you need to read plates, make sure you can. Seems obvious, but most people don't do that. . It's a hybrid poe. With poe the power comes over the network cable - this has individual inputs for the network and power. The cameras can accept poe from the ethernet cable or from a 12v power supply (i never throw out power supplies when something dies, so i have a bunch! ) power supply not included - they never are with poe. You have a few options when installing this. If you're mounting to an exterior wall, the provided cable is long enough to pass through cinder block - so you don't need to worry about weather-proofing. If you need to have weatherproof connections, you have a couple of ways to go. . Make your own cable so it's weatherproof (connector included) and pick up a weatherproof power supply. Or macgyver something. I'm not saying you should take risks with anything electrical. I put a similar camera on the side of our deck to monitor our pond - it required a power supply. I used a disposable lunch-meat container (disposable glad, etc. ) and put the power supply and connections in that, then hung it under the deck. It's been bone dry for two years. The extension cord runs to a gfci outlet. No need to fabricate a cable. The camera is 12v, so you could even run it from a landscape lighting transformer. You can easily run a supply line 20 feet or more for the power, so the transformer can be plugged in - say - your garage. Then run the wire out the wall to the camera. 12v is easy and safe to work with. . Alternately, use a poe injector or poe switch and forget the power supply. This really increases placement options. I love poe for hard to reach places - under eaves, by the pond, etc. No need to have a nearby outlet. I'd plug and seal the 12v connector if it's exposed to the weather, since you're not going to use it. . I'm honestly amazed at the video quality for the price. . Software: i use blue iris, but also amcrest's free "amcrest surveillance pro" software. The camera works with either. No matter what you use, i'd still run the "amcrest surveillance pro" software - it pulls all the details on the camera so you know what to enter in other software. The apps are also simple to use, as is the desktop browser connection. You can also use the desktop to setup alarm detection and more. Eliminate areas with trees, just detect the driveway or stairs, doorways or sidewalk, etc. There's also a video tampering setting. Either (or both) can be set to record, take a snapshot and email. Plus you can also set events for network issues, camera disconnection, etc. . Build quality: professional and heavy duty. Attaches with three screws, rubber gasket on the mount plate. I always use silicone sealer to play it safe, especially on uneven surfaces. . Software: lots of features in any version. I actually like the amcrest software over blue iris. . Bottom line: amazing quality for the price. I've paid 2x as much for the same thing. I'm running it at 2304x1296, h. 264h, 20fps, 4096 bit rate. The camera also supports a lower resolution sub stream of 640x480, designed for cell phones, etc. . Free sample provided for honest review.

Resolution and image clarity are remarkable. Setting up image detection triggers can be tricky. Plenty of trial an error will be required to balance detection area with sensitivity and thresholds. My camera points at plenty of foliage in background so windy days generate a lot of triggers. My camera is set up to send data to ftp server - i don't use viewing software or a security image capture system. Camera has plenty of features to satisfy my needs. Big issue i have is the way it store the images on the server. Images are stored as jpegs (no problems) but the way the camera generates sub-directories is a pain. This will generate a directory to the minute and stash all the images that occurred during that minute in that directory. This means that you are diving down into directories, then up, then back down then up, etc. In addition, each image is given a kinda cryptic name like 23 m 0 0 0 . Jpg. This might be a format that allows their viewing software to hook on to. I would love it if they could give users the option of simply stashing the images into one directory and giving the file names a prefix of what zone triggered the image and date/time stamp. My other camera does this and it makes it much easier to screen as well as doing batch downloads.

Hardware seems good; software and user instructions are spotty/missing/non-function in some cases. . Pros:. - good image quality, good balance between detail and recorded file size. - solid build quality. - amcrest view pro app on iphone does a good job showing live video, very useful when aiming the camera during installation. . Cons:. - installation instructions are spotty, lots of googling involved in figuring out how to both install & adjust it physically, and even more effort needed to figure out what software you need and where to find it. Not at all a turn-key installation. - on macs, some of the necessary software doesn't work - amcrest surveillance pro 2 is supposed to give you nvr capability, but it doesn't work properly (and there's several threads about it failing/crashing on the support pages). Luckily i discovered securityspy for mac (highly recommended) so now, after spending an additional $40, i have a working nvr capability on my mac. - the basic software saves its video files in . Dav format which is almost useless because few if any other players support it. Luckily securityspy saves to . M4v so almost any player can use the files. - waterproof protector on the ethernet cable (it's poe) won't fit over a pre-made ethernet cable, so you'd have to insert a bare ethernet cable through and then attach your own ethernet connector with a special ethernet-cable-making tool - that's ridiculous, who wants to do that? guess my connection will just get wrapped in electrical tape and hope for the best. . All in all, on sale it's a good price for decent hardware (i paid $85 - pro tip: sign up for amcrest's mailing list and wait a few days for discount offers to come via email. I saved $35). They really should revisit the out-of-box installation flow though, as it requires more technical know-how and hunting/digging around than reasonable for a mainstream consumer product.

I purchased this camera to overlook the driveway and monitor the mailbox. I wanted something small and unnoticeable. I have several pan/tilt cameras in the house, but this was my first outdoor amcrest camera. When i first got the camera it was smaller and more discrete than i thought, making it more than perfect for my install. . Once i had it installed i didn't know that the camera rotated on 3 axes inside it's housing. It has one axis that rotates left/right 360*, one that controls pitch up/down 180, * and another that rotates the entire lens. The lens axis is hard to notice, but it rotates like a puck on ice. I wasn't happy with the fisheye direction at first installed, but sliding the lens 90* fixed the small sliver view to a nice wide angled view of the whole driveway and mailbox. . I used amcrest ip config software for the initial port configuration and added the camera into my ip cam viewer app. There is a web based gui, but it can be a little glitchy. I would give this 5 stars, but documentation on the camera is pretty limited and i had to search their site for the ip software. Other than that, this is a great camera in a small package.

I love amcrest cameras and they are my current favorite. I would find it hard to find a better camera at the price. I have many various models in use and they are rock solid. One of which, but not the one being reviewed, has been exposed to direct sun in 100 degree plus temperatures and occasional hard rain. I recommend amcrest to everyone. . As far as this camera, i only give it four stars because i only like it and not love it. What i don't love:. . (1) the vandal proof dome is an annoyance. In order to not have the ir light reflect off the dome is to have a rubber grommet around the lense that makes contact with the dome. The first time i got the view i wanted i put on the dome and didn't realize it caught against the grommet. This caused it to move the lense from the view i wanted. I only discovered this after screwing on the dome. This was extremely annoying since the camera was mounted high and it takes a little while to turn those screws with the custom wrench. I later decided i would like to change the angle of the camera, but i have not done so because of the dome. I prefer the similar 1080p model without a dome cover (amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe dome ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 1080p (1920 tvl), ip2m-844e (white)). . (2) it's 3mp but only at 20 frames per second (fps). This did not work well on my porch since it would not catch someone on video that walked up quickly and then walked away due to the limited area of view. It may work okay for monitoring a large area, but not a close/limited field of view. I dropped it to 1080p and increased that to 1080p. Again, i would have preferred the cheaper ip2m-844e. Even better, i would have preferred a camera with much wider field of view. This model has a 81 degree field of view and the ip2m-844e is 93 degrees. This camera would have likely worked better if i could catch people coming straight at it, but i am getting them from above after they walk into a very limited area. . This camera may have it's uses, but it clearly is not the best camera for my use.

One of the best ip camera's i have used till date. . Ease of installation: very easy to install. Remove the dome cover to expose the holes to screw the system to the wall/ceiling etc. Adjust the camera as required and fit back the dome cover. Power connection: this can be covered either separately using a power adapter (not included) or a poe injector (not included). Without which, this unit will not power on. Connection: no wireless connection feature for this unit. Only possible way is to connect via ethernet cable. Monitoring: amcrest desktop app and mobile apps are available to keep an eye on the camera feed. Local storage: no local storage is available on this unit. Use a dvr/nvr or a pc with appropriate software (i use ispy) which records the feed from this unit. Cloud storage: only pain point for me with this camera. The cloud storage is available for few hrs as part of the free package. The cloud view doesnt always work. If the device is connected to your internet router, amcrest cloud service can be used to view the feed. But doesnt work all the time. Motion detection: worked almost all the time. Even a small movement or change, this camera triggers a notification via the cloud service. Camera feed: as mentioned earlier, one of the best camera's available. Both day time and night time video feeds are very clear. . Definitely worth getting this, if you want a descent to good camera for security.

Great image, but just okay software. . I bought this camera as an upgrade from my old analog black/white security camera. The image quality is simply amazing both during day and night mode. I set it up as a ip camera and use sighthound to monitor the video feed. I found the included software to be lacking. It isn't compatible with all browsers due to old java. But otherwise it allows you to configure the camera easily enough. The ios app isn't too bad though. . When installing it, it isn't mentioned or intuitive, but you can rotate the camera mount after you attach the screws to the wall. . The viewing angle is pretty wide, enough to cover a whole driveway and more. But the camera size itself means it isn't hidden by any means.

amcrest has really been branching out recently and unfortunately some of their newer products have been getting mixed reviews on online store due to uninformed consumers. This prohd line is what i would call a prosumer line of products it s a topshelf consumer product packed full of features normally found on more expensive enterprise equipment. Take some time to do some proper research and you ll be able to understand why some of these cameras are getting undeserved negative reviews. You ll also be able to appreciate the truly awesome products amcrest is putting out. . This camera has a rich feature set including a sony imx322 image sensor, ambarella s2lm chipset, and ip66 weatherproofing (can handle some massive downpours and dust storms but you re not going to want to take it scuba diving. Be sure you use the included ethernet weatherproofing if you re installing it outside! ). . First thing you need to know is that this camera does not include a power adapter to plug in to your wall. This camera is intended to be powered by what s called poe (power over ethernet which i ll explain shortly). There is a socket on the camera to utilize an ac - dc adapter (12v 2a), but you will need to provide your own adapter if you wish to directly power the camera utilizing an ac wall outlet (it is worth noting that the dc power socket on the camera does not include weather-proofing while the ethernet socket does). . This camera is what is called poe which stands for power over ethernet. If you re a little bit tech-savvy and know what you re doing, this makes installing and maintaining a camera network extremely convenient! if you re not tech savvy and you order a standalone poe camera, it s a bit of a recipe for disaster. This is not a plug and play camera. What makes poe convenient is that the power is delivered to the camera through the same cable that carries the network and video signals. This is different from other types of cameras that can require multiple cables. The downside is that the overwhelming majority of consumer networking products do not support poe. What s that mean? it means if you just plug this camera into your home router it s probably not going to work, because it won t be getting any power! . . There are a number of different ways to deliver power to the camera: if you have a poe compatible nvr (network video recorder), a poe compatible network switch added to your network, or a poe compatible router (chances are that router you bought at best buy or the one at&t gave you when they installed your internet is not poe compatible). Alternatively, you can supply power directly to the camera as i described above and then connect it to your network using an ethernet cable to run the video and network feed. Probably the most common option to power a handful of cameras would be to buy what is called a poe injector which will plug in to your wall and then power the ethernet cable to run to the camera. . The camera comes with a quick start guide and there are a number of different options to get the camera up and running, as well as a number of different options to view and access the camera once it s up and running. This is another area where amcrest has been reaping some unfortunate negative reviews. It extremely difficult to make software that attempts to make things easy and automatic for the user because there are some many different variables in the user environment, things don t always go as they should. An advanced user can usually go in and figure out what went wrong and tweak it on their own, while the non-advanced user is left wondering what went wrong it was supposed to work on its own! just remember microsoft s plug and play which computer techs used to refer to as plug and pray because it failed so often! . . Thankfully amcrest has offered multiple ways to set up and access the cameras. I ve never had to use their support because i ve been able to figure stuff out on my own, but i ve read that they have stellar customer support give them a ring if you re having trouble! . . The image quality on these units is stellar. The resolution allows for a truly useful digital zoom on most monitors since the resolution exceeds most consumer monitors. The camera housing itself seems solidly constructed. Nearly every component of the housing is comprised of metal. The articulation arm feels built like a tank. It took me a minute to figure out how to control the yaw loosen the adjustment screw a little extra and you ll be able to crank the yaw around the base with a very satisfying click of each angle before you lock it back in to place. . Overall i am quite pleased with the function and quality of this camera. I can see how some may have run into issues with setup, installation, and maintaining usage, but if you have the know-how, this camera offers excellent quality in a solidly-constructed housing. . I provided an honest and unbiased review of this product and the manufacturer/seller was kind enough to provide me a monetary discount. I strive to stand by the "honest and unbiased" goal. I will always point out what i deem to be negative aspects of the product, and ding stars accordingly. I'm just a regular dude that likes to write and geek out on tech projects.

Excellent poe camera! . . Bought 4 of these. Fov (81o) is pretty good within price range, resolution is great. I found they work great with blue iris software. I had to apply some masking to the motion detection trigger since i have some trees and some cars passing by that would trigger recording continuously. Excellent night vision. You can actually mount them at any angle. I had my doubts but the camera not only bends at an angle relative to the mount, but it also rotates 360 degrees relative to the arm mount base as well as the "bullet" relative to the arm. Mounting was a little bit tricky. It comes with a cable and a weather proof connector that is pretty thick. I didn't want to cut it out and void my warranty, but also didn't want to drill a huge hole on my brick wall (besides, the cable is not long enough to go through the brick wall). So the connection had to be made outside. I wish amcrest or online store sold a custom junction box, but couldn't find any. I had to buy a third party box and drill new holes on the box cover (see pics). For mounting on vinyl siding home depot sells a mounting box that is just thick enough to accommodate the connection on the outside (you need some sort of mounting base unless your siding is flat). Overall great product at a fair price.

I've installed the nvr and cameras in a test environment, waiting for flood repairs to be completed to my house. Everything is working fine. . I deducted one star because the included printed instructions are lacking. There were two "amcrest nvr quick start guides. " one was seven pages and had only simple line drawings of the nvr and didn't thoroughly represent or describe my device. The second guide is 82 pages with useful photos and instructions. . The setup was challenging using the user app built into the nvr. From my point of view the challenges were mostly due to the very large number of required vs optional settings. I haven't yet dived into the multitude of detection settings. . I find the management of recorded views to be difficult and inadequate. It seems you can't delete a recording of a specific camera or for a specific time period. You can allow the oldest recording to be overwritten once the storage is full or automatically delete those beyond a specified number of days. There is available a detailed schedule for each camera, but i haven't tackled that yet. The only other way to delete files is to "format" the hard drive - scary. . After some trial and error, i was successful in getting the amcrest view app to provide local and remote access to the system with my ipad and iphone. Lots of options. . Amcrest has a lot of documentation and video online. My first experiences with their email and phone support have been marginal, but ultimately successful. They couldn't help with my inquiry to connect my old foscam cameras. Direct contact with foscam resulted in a very quick offer of a "significant" discount on a new amcrest camera. I haven't followed up on that yet.

okay, i purchased this amcrest camera to start building on my home security. I liked the idea of buying the package deals but for what i was wanting to spend currently, they weren't in my price range. I wanted good cameras and since i don't really need 4 or 8 cameras to get setup, why not buy a nvr that can support that and just buy great cameras as i go. So that is what i have done. I paired this camera with a so after playing with the camera and nvr in my garage for the last week i finally was able to run some cat5e and get the camera mounted to the front of the house like i wanted. Easy peasy doing all this and i had no problem just plugging the camera back into the cat5 and it working. I honestly haven't dug around to much in the nvr settings, i easily setup motion detection and it works great and everytime a car goes by the house i know get a little recording of it and a snapshot of it alerted to me on my phone via the amcrest app. Okay, lets get into the amcrest app. I love it. Simply put i had the camera image on my phone 3 minutes after downloading the app. No i am no networking engineer or anything like that. I know how to login to my router, i know how to reset a router, i know how to book a holiday inn express. So yes that is about as technical savvy as i get and i had no issues getting all this up and running. I like that when i am out and about i will know when someone is approaching my home when i am not there. I can't wait to add some more cameras to monitor the rest of my property and hope to atleast get a camera ordered for the front door in the next few days. All in all i think amcrest has a good product on their hands for the typical consumer and i will be buying their products in the future. *nope i didn't get a discount on this* *amcrest if you see this, i wouldn't say no to a discount*

The problem, of course, with hard wired cameras is running an ethernet cable to wherever you want to install the camera, therefore, being lazy, i tried to install some battery operated wifi cameras (ring stick up cam). I really wanted them to work, but they did not work for me. . Since, i have purchased three of these amcrest poe (power over ethernet) cameras, and installed them around the house. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras. Running the ethernet cables was a really big job, but i bit the bullet, got over being lazy for a day, and just did it. What a difference having a real camera makes! i am using them with my synology network attached storage and its motion detection (using the synology surveillance station package that comes with the synology nas) is 100% reliable - once properly set up it is giving me 100% true and 0% false motion detection. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison, but imo the amcrest camera build quality is night and day better than the ring stick up cam. . I purchased three of these to use around my house after trying the battery operated/wifi ring stick up cam, which for me was a fail, and am using it with my existing synology network attached storage that i have had for several years. . Now i understand why a hard wired camera is vastly better than a battery camera. It is always watching, and the synology surveillance station package is constantly analyzing the video for motion. (other surveillance systems, or even the camera itself, can do this too. ) once it detects motion, it records a video clip to the nas. Also, you can specify a lead in and lead out time from the time motion is detected to begin and end recording. This is called "pre- and post-recording time" in the synology surveillance station package. This can be set for up to 30 seconds for pre-recording and up to 120 seconds for post-recording in the sinology surveillance package. I have this set to 5 seconds for pre-recording, and 20 seconds for post-recording, so i never see a video beginning with someone walking away from the camera, or a video clip with someone suddenly appearing in the range of the camera, as i often saw on my battery operated cameras. . Rather, what i see, every time, is the person walking up to the the camera, because it is always on and monitoring, and when it detects motion and records the clip to my synology nas had drive it records what the camera saw 5 seconds before it first detects motion, and 20 seconds after it no longer is detecting motion. This just is not possible with a battery operated camera, which must be asleep to save battery, and then is wakened from its sleep and then starts recording. . Amcrest also has a cloud service, which i tried before i decided to use the nas. Their free version is just really for testing, it is pretty limited; i believe their paid version starts at $10 per month. But you can purchase an inexpensive nas for under $200, plus the cost of two hard drives, which do not have to be large expensive drives unless you want to use the nas for other purposes, and the surveillance station app works very well. . These cameras are not on the list of cameras that synology surveillance station currently supports, but i set them up as amcrest ip2m-841b, which ss does support, and they work fine. . I use them with a d-link poe ethernet switch with no issues. . - edit 11/5/2017 -. . Since i wrote this review, synology surveillance station has been updated, and as mentioned in one of the comments to this review now supports this camera. . I have purchased 6 more of these cameras, i now have a total of 9 around my property, both inside and outside and they continue to work very well, and have had no failures. I did receive one camera that had one of the screws for the cover installed so tight that i could not remove it, but returned that to online store for a refund with no issues. . I use the motion detection capability of surveillance station, not the camera. It does take some tweaking in surveillance station to get the motion detection working for zero to very few false detections, by such techniques as masking out areas such as roads where cars are driving, the tops of trees that can move in the wind, etc. , and setting the sensitivity and threshold one of the biggest problems i have had with one of my cameras is shadows on a wall that are cast by vegetation moving from wind, but it is possible to minimize false detections and still detect people, and in almost all of my cameras i now have it down to zero false detections, except when camera changes from day to night, outdoor lights coming on in the evening, etc.

I purchased this to replace some older dahua 1. 2mp cameras i have had setup. These are a very nice upgrade. The picture is clear and the night vision is still very clear. These are extremely easy to setup as far as ip cameras go. The web interface is responsive and easy to navigate. A nice change form some other cameras i have setup is that these default with dhcp on, which is just one less step and will make them pretty much plug and play for most. These also have a much better selection of video encoding than the dahua models. I have these setup with a dedicated server running blue iris so i do not connect directly with them of use the cloud service, so i dont know how that that works, but the cameras themselves work very well

all i can say is wow! . I had purchased a few security system before and it does not compare to the quality and performance of this great product. This amcrest 8-channel nvr gives you a great image quality like no other product i owned before. The motion detection is awesome! it will send a picture to your email when you select an area to detect the motion, the night vision quality is excellent, and the interface is user friendly. The customer support from amcrest is very reliable and professional, i had never call to a company where they service their customer for free after a year of having the product. They offer the support because their priority is satisfaction. I want to thank luis and the whole staff because they put up with all my questions and all my calls. I'm 100% satisfied. I had recommended this system to my friends and when i show them my cameras on my cellphone their get very impressed about the quality. My friend austin scotto just bought this system and we just installed it, and he is happy with the system. I uploaded a few photos and a nice video of my woodpecker. "enjoy! "

This is a great product and has many capabilities. I am not new to the amcrest product line as i am private security consultant. In my last job i installed the amcrest ultrahd 3-megapixel (2048 x 1536p) 8ch network poe video security system (nvr kit) - four 3mp poe outdoor bullet ip cameras, 98ft night vision, 2tb hdd, power over ethernet (black) with four cameras. The client came back and said i want three more cameras in addition to the four that came in the kit. This nvr (network video recorder) handles them great. Amcrest does a great job with their poe line of cameras. Their poe line of nvr 's have either a 4/8/ or 16 port 10/100 switch, 8 in this case, that supports the industry standard of 802. 3 af. For most people this doesn't matter, but it's worth noting. Everytime i have plugged in an amcrest poe camera the onbaord switch has had no probles powering them and showing an image and giving them an ip address usng its own subnet with dhcp. . Onto the hard drive, this specific model has a 2 terabyte seagate model in it (see attached photo. ) if you go about reading reviews on the standalone amcrest nvr/ dvr recorders people say "i didn't get a hard drive! " this is true, if you buy one of their standalone recorders they do not include a hard drive for a couple reasons. One: you choose your model and brand of wanted hard drive. For me/ my clients i steer them towards western digital purple series as these are engineered for high write rates (recording) as opposed to engineered for quickly reading (watching the footage). Secondly, it brings the price down for you at the time of purchase. I don't have to tell you that quality security products aren't cheap and these are far from the most expensive. If you reaaally want to spend some money check out axis, honeywell, bosch, panasonic etc. Amcrest (previosuly branded foscam) are good cameras, but are not the professional pieces like those aforementioned. . For those that are interested what's under the hood, or other ports, and or plugs, i have attached photos of what is on and in the chasis(remove four screws and top comes off to acess hard drive etc. ). . Overal i love the amcrest brand and their whole line of poe/ network video products. They have had calls from me about rma's and returns and warranties, and i have also exchanged propmt emails with them and have always been happy. Their csutomer service is bar none! i have eead reviews about people waitingg on hold, etc, however their website does list their sucustomertomer service phone hours, and the time zone for them. . At this point you're probably thinking this dude has to be paid or even worse, work for them, but surprisingly i don't. I just honestly love this brand of products and am generally 95% happy with the products and always 100% happy with the customer service. . The only thing that they could improve that i see right now is a dome or bullet varifocal ip camera. For most of their outdoor ip cameras you have an 81-95 degree viewing angel, which is great for large specific areas. However you may have only one area you want to view and it be far off, or a certain doorwayor object. Therefore that is what i would reccomend, definitely not anything to take a star off for. If amcrest roll those out i will definitely be a buyer. . Overall love love love amcrest!

I really can't say any more than what's already been said by everyone else. They are good cameras for their price point. I have two of these cameras and they work well. But longevity is the bigger question. And i'm wondering how they'll do. During the frosty winters. . I run two of these outside; one for the front door/entry way and the other for the driveway. I'll be adding another for the back yard/back door eventually. . Here's my equipment config that's working well so far:. . 1. Two of these cameras set to 1080p. 2. Tp-link 8-port poe switch (4 poe / 4 regular). 3. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless media bridge mode. 4. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless router mode. 5. Old dell dimension 9100 pentium d 2. 8ghz w/4gb ram. 6. Blue iris software set to record "direct-to-disk". . My setup works decently well. Cpu usage stays around 50%-60% during the day and around 30%-40% at night time (black and white). Adding a third camera though will most likely require a computer upgrade. . The cameras have good color during the day time and during the night i switch them over to black and white. The ir range on them is a bit limited but is adequate for i use them for. One word of caution, to get the most out of the ir don't have something in the cameras field of view that is bright in color as it will wash out the picture at night time and cause darker areas to be even darker. Using the ir in my driveway looks far better than the ir in the entry way that is surrounded by yellow siding from the house. But, the camera app software does provide you with enough settings to tweak to get the image almost where you need it. . This is my first foray into security cameras and they seem to do the job perfectly. But, how long will they last?

I have had a couple different security cameras and have a wireless ip camera inside the garage. I was unhappy with that one because it only stores video on the onboard sd card which can only be accessed by a cell phone app. I wanted something a bit more professional with storage on a remote windows pc. . I decided to try the amcrest prohd outdoor poe camera for this even though it is not wireless and uses a regular cat5/6 ethernet cable to transport the signal. . Installation. . My setup is probably different to most but is only slightly more complicated. . Poe injector (required). . Before i begin, i should explain that poe stands for power over ethernet. So you need a separate peripheral called a poe injector to inject a dc voltage that powers the camera through the ethernet cable. The injector uses one wall outlet to provide power. . Powerline network adapter (my optional addition). . Since this camera is going on the far corner of my garage looking down the driveway, i didn t want to have to route an extra ethernet cable from the study in the house all the way to the garage. Instead, i used a powerline network adapter i ve had for a while now. The adapter uses your standard household ac wiring to create an ethernet/lan connection. You need your router hooked up to a transmitter plugged into a wall outlet and a receiver in another outlet in the remote location. Since power to the garage comes from the house, the signal is transported just fine. . The powerline receiver in the garage ac wall outlet has an ethernet cable to the poe injector input. And the injector has a ethernet cable + power from the injector output to the camera. . This worked flawlessly with a 50 foot cable routed around the garage from the injector to the camera. . The only slightly tricky part was drilling the hold for the camera cable to pass through into the garage. I made a single hole behind the camera. It had to be quite large because of the stumpy ethernet socket in the camera lead. I ended up drilling a 1 inch hole to install the camera with no wires visible on the outside. Once the wire was passed through i filled the remainder of the hole with silicon caulk. . In use. . Mobile devices. . The easiest way to view the camera is from an ios or android app. You install the amcrest view pro or lite app. When you start it up it will ask you to scan in the qr code on the label on the side of the camera. Change the login or password (which should be done so your camera can t be easily hacked) and voila, you can monitor the camera on your phone. The pro version offers more functionality including setup of schedules and motion detection. . The camera. . The camera seems very well built with an all metal case and sliding hood if you need to cast shade over the lens. It s more compact than many i have seen. The body of the camera is connected to a base by a ball joint. The base has a plastic covering with three holes and a channel for the wire which exits the base at the center. A foam gasket is permanently attached with the cutout channel for feeding the wire along the wall. I simply drilled a big hole center to the case for the cable to fit through the wall. . The face of the camera has a small lens centered with an array of leds for night vision surrounding it. It looks nice but isn t too conspicuous. It has a decent angle of view which you can see in my screenshots. A lead exits the back of the base with an ethernet socket at the end. And what appears to be a round single pole dc input. No power supply is included since typically you would use a power over ethernet injector to save on wire clutter. . Windows desktop. . I installed amcrest surveilance pro and amcrest ip config on my windows 10 pc. Rudimentary instructions come with the camera in the form of a small leaflet. But the amcrest website has a full pdf manual and various help pages with animated diagrams and sometimes videos illustrating how everything works. . I used amcrest ip config to find my camera on the network and set the password. I don t have a static ip from my internet provider and noticed that if there is a power-cut, the camera has to be registered with the new ip the network gives it. Amcrest ip config is the easiest place to fix any basic network issues. It also lets you view the camera through a simple interface. . Amcrest surveilance pro is the security suite that gives you access to the full power of the camera. Another utility called pc-nvr is installed alongside it and is used to channel the camera s video stream to the storage on your home pc hard drive. Pc-nvr is a start up app that runs in the background; all the setup is done from within the main amcrest surveilance pro. . The software has very easy to setup schedules with features like general video recording, motion detection, alarm and a smart combination mode of motion detections and alarms. . The software uses a windows style desktop with icons for different areas. So it is pretty intuitive. . A devices icon when clicked, opens a window showing available camera devices. Mine was already available; i just had to change the password for the camera to match the one i gave it on the android app previously. Then it worked flawlessly. . The pc-nvr icon then opens to show you all your computer hard drives and other storage devices. You just pick one and enter how many gb you want to allocate to the selected drive and confirm your setting. The software restarts seamlessly and you re done. . To set up the camera, there is a devices config icon. Clicking on that you are given a separate desktop for your camera with its own set of icons. Here you can set up all the camera s functionality. All your cameras are listed in the left column, once one is selected all adjustments effect that camera alone. . Video detect icon. . This opens up a window that lets you set up motion detection. A checkbox enables the feature while the zone set button lets you adjust the settings. It shows a live view of your camera overlaid with a grid. You have four color presets with which you can paint the grid. Each color has its own sensitivity and threshold sliders you can customize. You can also give each one a name. You simply color in the grid where you want motion detection to work. Your color preset determines how sensitive it should be. Leaving areas without any color masks that area from motion detection. This is useful if you don t want some areas to register like in my case street traffic at the end of the driveway activating the recording. I included a photo to show you the motion detection grid. . Video recording. . There is another icon called record that lets you set a schedule either by day of the week or globally for the whole week. You have horizontal timeline bars in different colors showing at a glance what modes your camera is set up for during different times of day. Each day can have 6 user defined periods. . I experimented and played with general video recording green and motion detect yellow. There is also a red alarm where you can set up an alarm that sounds when motion is detected. There seems to be options for emailing or texting alarms too. . I included a screenshot of this section. Once set you can leave your camera to do its thing. In the end i went with motion detect only, so the camera only records at those times that it senses motion. . Playback. . To play back your recordings, on the main homepage/desktop there is an icon called playback. This is a video player. You select your camera and press the search button and it will show you all the video stored for that camera. I have included a screenshot showing this in operation. All video currently stored appears on a time bar on the bottom left of the screen. It s color coded to match the colors used when setting up your schedule. Regular recording is green, motion detect is yellow. You can slide the timeline along the bar in real time to scroll through the video or change to event mode where it lists events in text when stuff occurred. Clicking on an event plays back that segment. It s all very intuitive. . Conclusion. . This camera is excellent. It takes a bit of time to set up. But setup was easy and the software is pretty intuitive with plenty of online animated tutorials. . The image quality is very good. Easily as good as a cell phone with good detail and color. It may even be better than most cell phones since it doesn t change the exposure drastically with bright lights and the night vision worked very well the length of our driveway and across the street to the neighbors house. . The software too is very good. If you are used to video editing it s pretty intuitive though it did take a couple of hours for me to find all the info and work out how video recording schedules and playback work. Once you figure out it s quick and easy. . If there was one thing i didn t like about the software it s that there are delays when setting up. I m not sure if the software communicates with the camera and updates data on the camera but there are fairly long pauses when scheduling and motion detection grids load and also when they are stored. The only reason i can think of is that the software and the camera are having some kind of discourse behind the scenes. The delay is between 15 and 20 seconds. . Areas that don t involve setup are a lot more snappy. Once it s up and running it takes some time to fine tune motion detection recording. In my case a spider created a web nearby and one windy night a section blew in front of the camera triggering a video recording. Leaves blowing across the driveway, likewise. But after some adjustment of the sensitivity in the motion detection grid these niggles were ironed out. . I was also very happy that the camera works well over my unconventional powerline network which was a big plus saving the trouble of routing ethernet cable from the router in the study across the garden to the garage. I only have the one camera currently, but plan on adding another to monitor the front of the house too. . Disclaimer: this camera was provided in exchange for an honest and fair review. The opinions expressed are my own.

I started buying amcrest cameras a little over a year ago. I started with a few low end 720p cameras and now i have worked up to a 2tb nvr, 4 bullet cameras, my two original 720p cameras, and now this 3 megapixel poe dome camera. I have used ip cameras in the past from d-link and those cameras never seemed to last more than a few months of constant use before the video quality degraded and became almost useless. Since i started buying amcrest i have been quite happy. . I have this camera mounted to the front of my house to watch over deliveries from ups and fedex. Installation was very simple, the worst part of the install was drilling into the brick on my house. I bought a tp-link gigabit ethernet poe injector (tl-poe150s) to power this camera since i was hooking it up to my lan and not directly to the nvr. After giving it a static ip address i was easily able to add it to my amcrest nvr. . Now if you have used amcrest products already then what i'm about to say will be no surprise. For the newbies i have to warn you, the user interface is pretty bad, it is clunky and unintuitive. I have been working in i. T. For over 10 years so when others said the user interface was confusing i figured they were probably just not tech savvy. Well that is not the case, it really is. It will take some time but once you figure out what settings do what you will be fine but when you first start out you are going to be searching though various menus and screens quite a bit. One bit of good new though is that once you learn the amcrest software it's pretty much the same on all the cameras i have seen from them. . I did have some issues with this camera not working in ispy though, i could not find a video stream that was using the full resolution of the camera and every time i turned on ispy it would downgrade the setting in the camera itself. Since i have an nvr this is not a big deal but previously i used all my cameras with an ispy server, if i was still doing so then this camera would probably been returned. . Pros:. -good build quality. -good video quality. -poe is very convenient and works perfectly. -works fine with my amcrest nvr. . Cons:. -the user interface is unintuitive and takes time to figure out. -the connection to the network cable is outside the camera housing and not secure. -have to install an amcrest plugin to view the system via web browser. . Conclusion:. Overall i'm happy with this camera. I took one star off for the poor user interface, the issue with ispy, and for the ethernet connection being outside the camera housing. . Some additional tips:. -for some reason the factory video settings on amcrest cameras are not set very high so make sure you turn up the resolution and frame rates on the camera settings to the highest number your cameras will allow and save.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

Z. Angela, Cornwall says

I purchased this product based on customer reviews. Sadly, it did not perform to the level of previous reviews. . I have been using ip cameras for over 10 years. Aside from early panasonic cameras, this camera proved to be the most difficult to program. Recent firmware updates may be the problem, but amcrest (evident in their own support forums) remains unconcerned about their products and customer satisfaction. I wish i could return this camera, but i mounted it on the side of the house. . One star for the apparent solid hardware construction. - 4 stars for the terrible software integration and customer support. I called tech support and it sounded like i was talking on the stock trading floor of another nation. I couldn't hear them. . Spend your money on another brand.

S. Meyer, Alaska

Would have been five stars, if not for the amcrest cloud service. . First of all the camera itself and the associated amcrest view pro app are very good. The quality of the camera, configuration options, and ability to easily monitor from your smart device are top-notch. As a warning, these functions require a good amount of upload bandwidth for optimum usage. Expect to need to use about a steady 1 - 1. 5 mbps *upload* speed for a decent feed. . Now the bad news. Amcrest cloud. Although this service seems inexpensive, you might be getting less than you paid for. The sharp camera images that you can see on an attached computer on the same network, or on your mobile app devolves into a blocky, pixellated image, presumably because of the extremely lossy compression scheme that amcrest is using to minimize storage space and bandwidth. Unfortunately, this negates many of the best uses of the camera itself. Faces are unrecognizable from as little as ten to fifteen feet away. Fine details are completely lost. More to the point, the cloud service actually overrides your camera settings to 1920 x 1080 resolution (which is laughable, since you get much less than that because of the compression artifacts), ten frames a second, and limits the bit rate to 768. If you are planning on using this service, do yourself a favor, save yourself some money and only buy their 1080 model or lower. You won't see any benefit from going higher. . So, if you're planning on recording onto your own computer, or onto an sd card, this is a great camera. If you're planning on using the cloud. Well, be aware that it probably won't be excessively useful to you. . Picture: picture without a person is unedited from the live view in the cloud website. Picture with a person is a recorded video on the cloud site.

B. Connie, Vermont says

Pros:. . -works with blue iris. -ability to legitimately turn off p2p so that it doesn't even go out and ping home. -poe. -3mp. -built solid, not cheap plastic feel. . Cons. -mounting bracket/adjustment not ideal. Perfect for ceiling mount or side mount, but if you need awkward angles it gets more difficult to move where you need since its not technically a ball and socket. -requires firefox or internet explorer. Not sure if it works with chrome, but i wasnt able to get the plugins to work for me. . Great little camera, comparable to the hikvision cameras that i have been using, and through 3rd party apps this thing is recognized as a dahua camera. I do really like this camera, and although i have only had it for a few days, just the mere fact that it is poe, outdoor and 3mp, and works with blue iris and 3rd party applications. I use blue iris, and pair this with other hd cameras and the picture quality of this guy is definitely up there with the rest. . Update: this product stopped working not long after the review. I actually revisited it sitting in my closet and completely forgot i had removed it because i couldnt get any power to it via the 12v or the poe. Kinda disappointed. I own quite a bit of amcrest cameras and most are reliable. This one turned out to be a disappointment that i completely forgot about while it was probably still under warranty. I only used it for a month or 2 also

It works, the user interface is lacking

K. Nielsen, Knowsley says

I ordered two of the prohd 3mp vandal-proof outdoor dome cameras. When taking the dome cover off to mount the first camera i had difficulity getting one of the torx head screws to back out, turns out it was cross-threaded from the factory (i had read that others has this issue). I was able to get it backed out to remove the dome and mount the camera. When mounting the unit (which in hind sight i should not have done) the screw was also tight going in but secure, the issue is there is now no getting it back out as the soft metal of the torx screw is toast. Fortunately i had the camera set where it needed to be. Then i moved on to the next camera thinking this was an isolated issue. Wrong! the next camera had the exact same issue! this time i was unable to remove the dome as the torx head shredded. I boxed it back up and it is going back (would have done the same to the other, except i will have to use a sawsall to get it down, and that can wait for now. I gave this camera 3 stars because the picture, and ir night performance is very good, as is the integration with blue iris and alexa. I can only hope that it lasts longer than a couple of months. I think the primary issue with the screws getting cross-threaded has to do with the soft metal of the base, combined with probably a machine installing the dome screws. The fact that both has the same issue is enough for me to try a different brand.

The good: the video quality is excellent, and it's a fully-featured ip camera. I've had many over the years and this one is pretty good. . The bad: it only stores video files in . Dav format, which is not supported by most media players. So you have to convert the stored video clips into . Mp4, . Avi, or something else that your pc will be able to decode. That's an extra (and painful) step that i don't want to deal with. Amcrest has mobile apps that will display those files on an android or apple device, but i can't find any way to conveniently view the recordings on a pc. . Also, the user manual is pathetic - completely unhelpful, and full of errors. For example:. - login anonymously: this checkbox allows the user to anonymously login to the server. - username: this checkbox allows the user to anonymously login to the server. Not only is the 2nd line a duplicate of the first and completely irrelevant to the topic, but the description merely states the obvious and doesn't add anything of value. This is common throughout the manual. And there are no examples given anywhere to show how to set things up properly. . I'm returning mine. I'll look for an ip camera that stores the video clips in a more standard . Mp4 format.

I. Jackson, Nevada says

The hardware is nice but the user interface is horrible. . There is a bug where it assigns cameras to random channels. Their developers know about the problem but have yet to fix it. I found a workaround by duplicating a camera to every channel except the one you want to use for the new camera; then attach the new camera and it will be assigned to that one empty channel. . Also, the ethernet cables will not fit in the weatherproofing adapters for the camera. To use those adapters, you will have to cut the end of the ethernet cable off, slide it through the adapter, then crimp on a new rj45 connector. (see photos)

T. Dorine, Derby

It is sold as a 3mp poe camera. The box says it's 3mp. The box and camera both have the same serial number. But the amcrest configuration pc app reports that is a 2. 1mp. In addition my blue iris software reports it as 2. 1mp. What gives? my amcrest pro hd pos ip2m-841b is listed as. As 2 mp on the box, but is reported by the amcrest app & blue iris as 2. 1mp. I find that the amcrest pro hd pos provides a better picture than the 3mp bullet camera. I'm disappointed.

. Nicole, Kansas says

I had to replace my hikvision ds-2cd3132 because its ir lights stopped functioning after a year and a half. Camera still works great, but only during the day. I thought i'd try something different since i didn't get much life from the hikv, but this ones ir seems almost none existent. Really disappointed in the night vision of this camera. Its daytime view is very clear, but nighttime very lacking.

Y. Paula, Somerset

The camera and app seem to work fairly good. What i do not like is that in the evening when the unit auto switches from day to night mode, it somehow seems to do a ir flash and triggers a false motion alarm. The picture quality is pretty good on it. The pcb did seem to be provisioned for a sd card as a future enhancement, however would have been nice to have that build it in case there was a network outage so images or videos could have been stored to it. Another factor is cloud storage. While amcrest does provide a free demo account with up to the last 4 hours of storage, competitors such as netgear arlo provide a 7 day free cloud solutions with up to 5 cameras per account. I think if amcrest improved on the cloud storage, it would attract more customers. If you currently have multiple amcrest cameras, you would need to setup multiple demo accounts to have cloud storage, unless you choose the expensive subscription route. This is a cumbersome workaround and would be better to be able to add multiple cameras to the same demo cloud account. Also, even increasing the demo account from the 4 hours to at least 24 hours would be a big step up!

G. Mathis, Newfoundland and Labrador says

This review is divided into two parts, the hardware and the software. First the hardware. The camera is very small and easily overlooked. If you wish visibility to be a deterrent then you need more to draw attention to the existence of the camera. The poe in-line rj45 connector extends through a pig-tail extension out the bottom with a slot provided if you wish to extend out the back. It can be mounted so that the vulnerable cable is completely covered and not exposed. Video was sharp but colors a bit muted. Adjustments are provided that can correct. Ir performance was fine. Motion triggers were satisfactory. All-in-all, the hardware earns 5 stars. . The software is a different story. Initial setup was most easily performed with a smart phone. That was the easy part. That said, be prepared to spend a great deal of time attempting to find a computer browser that will show you live video. There are not many left. Non-video setup such as email can be setup with just about any browser and is relatively easy. It is the live video part that is the problem. My best luck was with internet explorer. I was also able to get google chrome to work with a cumbersome plug-in. If you are a techie then you will probably figure out a way to get it all set up. If you are not, then i would advise choosing another product. Amcrest simply must upgrade the viewing software. As it is, it is unacceptable to expect the customer to keep searching until he or she finds a browser that still works. I own two of these cameras and will purchase a third, but only because, once setup, they work well and are attractively priced. I am also a techie who keeps an old computer around with outdated versions of browsers loaded. It is a shame that amcrest lets this otherwise great product ship with such inferior methods of live viewing on a computer. One word of caution. This device can broadcast private video of your home around the world so it is extremely important that you upgrade the firmware and set a new, secure password immediately.

H. Carmen, Iowa

The clarity and field of view of this camera is above average. The on board software user interface is cumbersome and lacks the ability to store video and snap shots on the local hard drive.

R. Hakala, Brighton and Hove says

Having issues with the dome cam not responding. When it is working it's over-detecting motion, sending alerts every few seconds. . Amcrest eventually replaced the camera with a refurbished unit. It took almost a month. Stuck to their bullet cams.

V. Wade, Torbay

This was a good product but the reason for returning was that the camera mounts don t have 3-axis adjustability. Once you mount the cameras, you can only adjust the camera along the x and y axis (up, down, left, right). The build quality was good and the software was easy to navigate. You do need a hard drive like the description says if you want to record. Overall good product for the price point just missing some features i wanted, i opted for a 4mp swann system instead.

F. Susan, Southampton says

Great nvr kit. Had one malfunctioning camera but was easy to replace after contacting amcrest. It's been months working smoothly.

X. Claudia, South Australia

Initially a great camera, my only issue is that the ir lights for night vision stopped working less than a year after purchase. I have a few of these and all but 1 are working great. Camera is still very well constructed, and give a clear picture. Overall happy with the camera, just disappointed that one lasted as short as it did.

L. Guest, New Jersey says

Inconsistent quality. Although the camera itself seems to be fine, couldn't remove dome on 2 of the 4 cameras i received. Now, i have go through the pain of returning/replacing them and have the installer come back again. I noticed another review mention the same issue, the quality of overall manufacturing seems to be an issue, need to see how they hold up in the long term.

N. Isabel, Dudley

I need your help because i cannot enter to my amcrest ultra hd 3mp. The manual instruction is:. User: admin password: admin. Is impossible enter to configuration of the nvr. I installed this nvr two days ago.

W. Lindsey, Worcestershire says

Update october 2017: reporting back that amcrest has finally worked an issue out regarding the disk drive matter, thanks to efforts by carlos and others at amcrest. Adding some stars to my review. Still awaiting a resolution to the perceived firmware issue. . Prior update:. The hardware seems decently manufactured, but their firmware updates are infrequent and when they do come out it's been my experience that they cause problems. I've been working for several months to get problems with this system resolved. Unfortunately both their techinical support and rma department have been unable to resolve issues with their nvr equipment and have been unwilling to make it right for the customer. I sent in the nvr for an rma replacement since tech support could not resolve my issues (serious problems with the unit after updating the firmware). . I sent the unit back with the bundled wd 2tb purple surveillance hard drive installed (a good dependable drive), as it had been purchased. The refurbished nvr returned was diskless. I contacted amcrest and pointed out that they forgot to return the drive. I had to wait nearly another week for a disk to be received. What i got was a cheap, low-end seagate drive that has many, many complaints on online store as being unreliable and prone to break down quickly. And the replacement nvr, with the same suspect firmware installed, had the same issues as the one returned. I tried to get amcrest to make this right by replacing the drive with what i returned. Another week of emails and i'm finally told they will not replace my drive, which i paid for, like-for-like due to their policies. . All of these problems were caused by amcrest, who are unwilling to make it right for their customer due to their policies. So i now have an nvr with problems and a sub-standard disk drive that i have no doubt will fail soon, and amcrest will provide no further support or make this right. Do you wish to do business with a company like this? do you want to spend hundreds of dollars and be told that they can't help you due to their policies? i was willing to wait for another firmware update to see if the problems were resolved. I simply wanted the same model of drive returned to make me sufficiently satisfied. Instead i am here warning others about this company and its policies. Avoid amcrest and it's products unless you enjoy frustration and wasting your money.

. Matherly, Hillingdon

I originally gave 5 stars but after having 5 days and mixed at this point. Took me about 14 hours to install but that's not there fought you have to run wires. I have spent 5 days in arrow on phone with 5 deferent techs and all sound like from india and have hard time understand all were nice but 3 out of 5 seem to rush you off without making sure you got everything you needed. The other problem i have is they do not wont to tell you how to do yourself and want to hook up remote to your computer and quickly run thru. This is good and bad. Anytime you hook up remote there is danger that they can come back and get in your computer. I have spent and 40 mins a day or more on phone. The software that come with nvr does not work with video playback at all. Locks up and will not fast forward without locking up. They did not even tell me why and just told me i needed internet explorer which i did not have and to load up and go thru browser that way to make video work. You can forget about book having any trouble shooting info and does not tell you how to use functions at all. I will make my mind up in couple more weeks. Also i having problems with camera 5 loading up . Very frustrated at this point with

. Emma, Portsmouth says

Easy to use but the picture quality is not as good as expected.

A. Yvette, Pennsylvania

Worked great for a couple hours; however, less than 8 hours later it was super saturated with blue and nothing i did fixed it. I attached an image of a hikvision dome camera (been in use for months) that looks down the side of the facility and then this amcrest that looks top down over a path. They both show the exact same truck at the exact same moment. It provides an idea of how bad the blue saturation levels are. . Making it black&white does help a little but since it's over saturated the quality of image is still extremely poor.

Q. Wayt, Newham says

While very good for most of it's fairly short life (9 months duty, ) when we had driving rain for two hours we ended up with water intrusion in the camera that shorted it out. This was the tail end of hurricane harvey, so if it was going to go that was the time to do it, however with an ip rating of 67 (protected from immersion in water with a depth of up to 1 meter (or 3. 3 feet) for up to 30 mins) i would think that being 16 feet up and not submerged it should have survived. . Anyway, that was $100 down the tubes

E. Rebecca, South Dakota

I bought this system for installation in a large airplane hangar. The nvr is not the most user friendly, but after you get used to their interface, it's not too bad. Camera quality is good although one of them has already begun flickering on and off. As a precaution, i ran another ethernet cable with new cable ends, and it still flickers from time to time, so i assume that camera is on it's way out, or there is an issue with the power injection at the nvr. These camera's and the nvr work as described and promised. Very clear video for a reasonable price. I hope they hold up, because i'd like to install the same or similar system in about 25 retail locations to replace older analog systems. *note* to access from a remote pc or laptop, make sure you open both the port and tcp port in your router.

U. Guest, Sutton says

The image from the camera is good, but the setup is quite painful. The camera arrived well packaged in a protective box with protective film over the dome. The software to configure the camera is quite basic but functional if it is being used as a standalone camera. After a lot of fiddling around i managed to set the ip address to match my network. Then the problems started: i connected this camera to a dvr. The image was skewed by 90 degrees. If i leave the image rotated it records fine. If i use the amcrest configurator to rotate the image the right way up then the dvr doesn't get a signal from the camera. Amcrest says it is a dvr problem and the dvr supplier says it is a camera problem. Catch 22! so, i bent the mounting bracket that the camera is fixed to so that the camera is pointing the right way as i couldn't use the adjustment within the camera to get the picture i need. Really don't think i should have to do this, but at least i have it working.

C. Williams, Saskatchewan

I would have gave it 5 stars but it did not work very well with foscam nvr fn3004h. The motion detection did not work at all. I return and bought a foscam.

. Carrie, Florida says

The camera requires a (forbidden/dangerous, for me) browser plug-in install to complete the setup, so it's useless to me. I wish amcrest had made this clearer in the manual. I can understand needing a plug-in for video, but it's really hard to believe that you can't even get a single snapshot out of the thing without the dang browser plug-in. So without the plug-in, you can't complete the setup, and it's useless.

D. Neva, Wigan

This is another ip camera where the built-in ftp server is broken! if you want to transfer video detection files or do some 24/7 recording and do not have a physical dvr you can set your pc up as a local virtual dvr machine. Install zilla ftp server on the computer. Setup ftp settings right in the camera interface. Tested things out and literally zero results. It is almost like the ftp service has been disabled within the camera, and that my friends is currently the only way to get files from the camera to your computer. Unless you pay for their cloud service. Either this is a tactical move on amcrest's part or just typical lousy programming by the devs. I think i've tried 3 or 4 different models of amcrest camera's and the built-in ftp client just doesn't work. I'll leave the ftp server's console window open, so i'll be able to see even if the camera tries to connect and it doesn't even attempt to connect or test. If i load up an ftp client right on that same desktop use all the same settings as i did in the camera interface i'll be able to log into the ftp server with no issues. I do feel sorry for you guys who can't record simply using the camera ui, that's really a shame. By the way, i've tried reolink, hikvision, foscam, vivotek, even a no name generic brand and the built-in ftp services worked fine. I kind of just have a feeling they are pushing customer's to pay for their cloud service by disabling the only way transfer video files to a simple folder on a local computer. Yes, i have contacted support i believe three times about this previously and i have been told the same thing. "we will inform our devs to look into it and try to find a solution". Never to be heard from again. And yes, i know there are programs like blue iris that can be used and will work just fine, but you'd at least want all your camera's baseline functions working. I would.
