Preamble

purchased this camera along with a riolink 4mp and an hdview 4mp to test them out. This camera was the winner of the group. It has very good day quality, but was clearly the best when it came to its night vision. All three cameras were paired with an amcrest 8 channel nvr. This camera was easily detected and all of the settings could be configured from the nvr itself. This is likely due to both devices being from the same manufacturer so if you are using a different nvr your mileage on the settings may vary. The camera does seem to be well designed, though is at the top of the price range for 4mp cameras of similar features. It also lacks an integrated microphone, something that was a very nice feature on the riolink. Amcrest's remote viewing software for both the camera (in a stand-alone setup) and through the nvr, both worked great. . One of the biggest differences in the cameras was their support for night vision. This camera was a little more grainy than the riolink but had a much brighter and farther view. I think the camera is allowing for more light which is causing the extra noise. It also had the best support for low light color mode. There is a setting where you can force the ir filter to stay on (producing color video) even during the night. Most other cameras will barely show any video in very low light when this is done, but this camera was actually still usable. I would not use this mode in my current setup (looking out in the street) as it was a bit too dark for me, but it was much better than any other camera i have seen. If you were using the camera looking at an area with a little more direct lighting, this mode could certainly be very useful. . One other unique feature was the motion detection. Like many cameras it allows you to setup a grid over the video to select areas to monitor for motion. This is very useful for excluding certain areas which cause excessive detection, such as the plants in a garden which may just blow in the wind. What made this different, is you can choose from 4 different detection levels to apply each area of the screen. This means, while most cameras would simply have to ignore the plants, this one can still monitor the plants but at a much lower sensitivity than other parts of the video. So now, if the plant blows in the wind, it does not detect, but if you walk through the plants, it will detect motion. . My only major complaint about this camera is the price. While, it had features which were better than the riolink, it was almost twice the price and i did not feel it delivered twice value. Amcrest Prohd Outdoor 4 Megapixel Poe Bullet Ip Security Camera - Ip67 Weatherproof, 4mp 2688 Tvl , Ip4m-1025e White Review (ip4m 1025ew)

amcrest has really been branching out recently and unfortunately some of their newer products have been getting mixed reviews on online store due to uninformed consumers. This prohd line is what i would call a prosumer line of products it s a topshelf consumer product packed full of features normally found on more expensive enterprise equipment. Take some time to do some proper research and you ll be able to understand why some of these cameras are getting undeserved negative reviews. You ll also be able to appreciate the truly awesome products amcrest is putting out. . This camera has a rich feature set including a sony imx322 image sensor, ambarella s2lm chipset, and ip66 weatherproofing (can handle some massive downpours and dust storms but you re not going to want to take it scuba diving. Be sure you use the included ethernet weatherproofing if you re installing it outside! ). . First thing you need to know is that this camera does not include a power adapter to plug in to your wall. This camera is intended to be powered by what s called poe (power over ethernet which i ll explain shortly). There is a socket on the camera to utilize an ac - dc adapter (12v 2a), but you will need to provide your own adapter if you wish to directly power the camera utilizing an ac wall outlet (it is worth noting that the dc power socket on the camera does not include weather-proofing while the ethernet socket does). . This camera is what is called poe which stands for power over ethernet. If you re a little bit tech-savvy and know what you re doing, this makes installing and maintaining a camera network extremely convenient! if you re not tech savvy and you order a standalone poe camera, it s a bit of a recipe for disaster. This is not a plug and play camera. What makes poe convenient is that the power is delivered to the camera through the same cable that carries the network and video signals. This is different from other types of cameras that can require multiple cables. The downside is that the overwhelming majority of consumer networking products do not support poe. What s that mean? it means if you just plug this camera into your home router it s probably not going to work, because it won t be getting any power! . . There are a number of different ways to deliver power to the camera: if you have a poe compatible nvr (network video recorder), a poe compatible network switch added to your network, or a poe compatible router (chances are that router you bought at best buy or the one at&t gave you when they installed your internet is not poe compatible). Alternatively, you can supply power directly to the camera as i described above and then connect it to your network using an ethernet cable to run the video and network feed. Probably the most common option to power a handful of cameras would be to buy what is called a poe injector which will plug in to your wall and then power the ethernet cable to run to the camera. . The camera comes with a quick start guide and there are a number of different options to get the camera up and running, as well as a number of different options to view and access the camera once it s up and running. This is another area where amcrest has been reaping some unfortunate negative reviews. It extremely difficult to make software that attempts to make things easy and automatic for the user because there are some many different variables in the user environment, things don t always go as they should. An advanced user can usually go in and figure out what went wrong and tweak it on their own, while the non-advanced user is left wondering what went wrong it was supposed to work on its own! just remember microsoft s plug and play which computer techs used to refer to as plug and pray because it failed so often! . . Thankfully amcrest has offered multiple ways to set up and access the cameras. I ve never had to use their support because i ve been able to figure stuff out on my own, but i ve read that they have stellar customer support give them a ring if you re having trouble! . . The image quality on these units is stellar. The resolution allows for a truly useful digital zoom on most monitors since the resolution exceeds most consumer monitors. The camera housing itself seems solidly constructed. Nearly every component of the housing is comprised of metal. The articulation arm feels built like a tank. It took me a minute to figure out how to control the yaw loosen the adjustment screw a little extra and you ll be able to crank the yaw around the base with a very satisfying click of each angle before you lock it back in to place. . Overall i am quite pleased with the function and quality of this camera. I can see how some may have run into issues with setup, installation, and maintaining usage, but if you have the know-how, this camera offers excellent quality in a solidly-constructed housing. . I provided an honest and unbiased review of this product and the manufacturer/seller was kind enough to provide me a monetary discount. I strive to stand by the "honest and unbiased" goal. I will always point out what i deem to be negative aspects of the product, and ding stars accordingly. I'm just a regular dude that likes to write and geek out on tech projects. -L. Ross

PROS
  • With the successful installation of a 7-camera amcrest poe nvr system earlier this year, we realized that we could improve coverage by adding this amcrest 4 megapixel poe bullet camera. Its wider field of view compared to our other cameras allows it effectively to cover most of the interior space of our garage hook-up was trivial and the network video recorder was displaying the image within seconds after attaching the cat 5e cable. There are no artifacts such as reflections or glare from the ir (night vision) leds into the lens as we'd seen with some other systems. We appreciated the inclusion of a paste-on template to aid drilling the mounting holes in the wall. A-ok
  • Ok, so i bought three amcrest 4mp cameras in three different configurations - 1025 bullet, 1028 dome and 1054 motor-zoom bullet. In general, i'm satisfied with the result and can recommend all three cameras. In the hope of helping others, i'll make some general observations as well as some comparisons between the three. General: the cameras are well made of quality materials (metal) and have good image quality. Documentation is not up to the same level - all three cameras came with user guides that covered many different products and was not helpful at finding specific issues with the camera purchased. An example? the 1028 and 1054 both have the ability to install a microsd card, but no information about how to install it - in the case of the 1054 it's hidden under an access panel and on the 1028 it's held inside a very flimsy metal holder that would be very easy to break if you unknowingly pulled or pushed it in the wrong way. I figured it out, but only because i had a cell phone a few years back that had a similar holder for its sim card. Another example is mounting instructions. The 1028 came with a stick-on paper template to help drill the holes, but the 1026 and 1054 did not. . A few comparative comments. I'm sure it's a personal preference thing, but after my experience installing these three i have to say i found the dome camera much easier to install than the bullets. The dome can be mounted on the ceiling or on the wall (facing out) and the camera rotated on a three-way gimbal that let's you move it to any orientation (one time, during installation) regardless of the orientation of the base (less about 5 degrees). This makes installation easy - screw the base to the wall or ceiling, move the camera to any direction, and fix on the dome. The bullets are a lot harder because the stalk rotates only on one axis, and then by less than 90 degrees. So the base has to be in exactly the right orientation, and once screwed to the wall (making holes in stucco etc) then you have limited chance of reorienting the camera if it turns out to be nonideal. . The cameras can be accessed from a cell phone app or from a browser (only ie, not chrome). But the phone app has limitations, for example i couldn't find a way to use the motorized zoom function. The browser access is more comprehensive. However, best of all is a standalone application called amcrest surveillance pro, that didn't seem to be mentioned at all in the documentation but which was contained on the cd that came in the box (i found it while looking on the cd for a user guide). The surveillance pro mostly replicates the functions of the browser interface, but is much faster and also allows the setup of a virtual nvr on your pc to capture motion detection etc. . And now for some model specific comments:. 1025: this is a simple bullet design with a relatively narrow field of view. I thought it would good for my front door, but in retrospect i would have been better off with a wider view. As mentioned earlier, once you've screwed the base to the wall there are limited options to the directions you can point it. If you want to move the direction more than a little, you'll be drilling new holes (this assumes you want to point the camera at an angle from the wall - if you want to point straight ahead, you're good to go). The 1025 does not have a microsd slot. In the end, i found that was a disadvantage, as the other two cameras were able to capture video within themselves even when not connected to a software program or dedicated nvr. . 1028: this is a simple dome design with a 3-way gimbal that is not motorized (this is not a ptz camera) but you can orient the camera in any direction when you fix it in place. The 1028 accepts a microsd card, and also has sound input and output, as well as alarm triggers than would allow you to run the camera when a doorbell is pushed (for example) or to turn on a light or similar. I didn't use any of those functions. The downside is that it has a lot of wires coming out of it, which were kind of a nuisance during installation (i was tempted to clip them off, but didn't want to short out anything). . 1054: this is a bullet camera with a motorized zoom. I thought it would be good for watching critters in my yard. Zoom works well, and gives a choice between 55 and 104 degree field of view (and everything in between). But this camera is physically big and quite heavy. Installation was more difficult than the 1025 because of the size, especially at the top of a 17 ft ladder! i seriously considered purchasing the 1056 camera instead, which is more or less the same camera in dome format. The dome has the motorized zoom, but not full ptz (i think). The 1054 (bullet) has four ir lamps whereas the 1056 (dome) has only two so the night vision range of the dome is not as much. . I'll attach a couple of photos of raccoons digging up our lawn. These are low resolution pics taken with the 1054 by ispy (which worked well with all three cameras).
CONS
  • I purchased the amcrest ip4m-1025ew poe and the 4yr extended warranty. This review is strictly for the purpose of my experience of the amcrest camera and does not reflect on online stores role in this in any way. Very fast order process and delivery by online store. Ordered this camera on nov 21, 2016 and received it on nov 25, 2016. I am a computer tech by trade so running the cat 6 cable, termination and testing was not an issue for me. Camera setup was not to bad had it up and working using a step ladder to temporarily mount and make all the adjustments that i could before mounting on the garage. Ran the firmware update as directed. I did call amcrest tech support as i noticed as it got dark the camera video got real grainy. Was told that is the way the camera is at night. All things she checked were ok. I thought maybe i was expecting too much from the 4mb camera. The video was really pretty good during the day . The next day i proceeded in drilling the hole into the side of my garage to mount the camera. No problems there install went very quickly. As the day went on i was trying to setup the motion detection and 24/7 video capture with issues that i am sure were user problems trying to get around the software ( amcrest surveillance pro so i called tech support and he cleared up the questions that i needed answered. As the night came in the camera again became real grainy and dark more than i was hoping for in a 4mb, 164' night vision camera. I was trying to setup the brightness on the camera and each time i adjusted it i would lose connection to the camera. This happened several times than the camera just died. I was using a brand new poe injector and had a new netgear poe switch so i unplugged the camera and let sit for 15min and tried the netgear switch, the camera did come up for a 30 second time in the ipconfig software than disappeared for good. I am attaching 2 pictures of day and night. The driveway is 90' to the road and the quality of the day picture is pretty good but you can see the one from the night is pretty bad hard to make out an object in any detail. Amcrest advertises 164' of night vision but it should be 50' max. Very disappointed in this camera. Now that being said it could be the camera had more issues that i know about, maybe the night vision was not working correctly. But i am not going to replace it. Not i got to fix the hole in the garage.
  • Doa. Returning for a refund. Purchased another in the meantime and while day time quality is good, night vision is poor. Returning it too.
  • These other reviews are a joke, right. . No mention that poe means to this vendor an 8-inch cable broken out to a power plug and ethernet connector hard-wired to the camera instead of a weatherproof poe connector. . So if you want to run this camera poe, say fifty feet away, you must run a 50 foot power cable along with the 50 foot ethernet cable or you have to add a splitter to the existing splitter at the camera. . Messes up the whole outdoor weatherproof ip67. Oh, that's for the housing only. . Update: my bad. At least i'm not a shill. I own 2 and ordered a 3rd. . And the professionals understand amcrest. . "the camera comes with a lot of functionality but much of it may go unused due to complications in the way it needs to be set up and lack of clear instructions. " . . . Hope paul reviews this outdoor poe version. . Rather see an online store services llc associates program reviews than something the vendor cooked up. . Really who puts out bare contacts that short for reset on a weatherproof device. I guess that is why the warranty is only for 4 seasons. Rather expensive camera for a throw-away. . And if you need a weatherproof rj-45, cut and crimp. . I would sure like to meet the deer watchers who keep crimpers and connectors at hand maybe we could discuss t-568a vs b.

prohd outdoor megapixel poe bullet Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 4 Megapixel POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 4MP (2688 TVL), IP4M-1025E (White) (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

The resolution of these cameras are what i consider ok for less than 10-100 foot yards. Night time using the camera's infrared lights, 10-75 feet tops. Although the camera has adequate resolution for 100 to 200 feet or even 300 feet, do not expect to see much detail at all! clearly, if you need to read license plates, you'll likely need a far better camera. On the flip, these cameras are very affordable and adequate for proving a person's presence, but lacks audio; and as such, most civilian criminal complaints will be dropped without the recorded audio! . . I dinged one star for: the missing weather proof boot instructions and the weather boots compatibility with shielded connectors. Some minor mounting issues. . Pros. 1) can be easily painted for camouflaging. Just use masking tape to prevent the front lens cover from over-spray. I'd also suggest removing the bar code stickers and placing the sticker on the underneath of the sun visor. Prior to painting, wipe down the exterior with acetone or xylene, etc. Use a combination of light & dark gray spray paints (including gray primer) to camouflage against trees, etc. Although primer does not last long, the cameras are already top-coated and corrosion control is not the issue here. The flat gray primer may wear more appropriately for camouflaging. . 2) logo & infrared cannot be deactivated on the nvr units. . Cons. 1) weather proof connectors are extremely difficult to properly install, due to absolutely no printed instructions within the packaging! only one weather proof connector is included, if you loose a part of the weather proof connector, you're screwed! . . 2) weather proof connectors are difficult to use on shielded connectors with shielded cat-6 cabling! the installer will likely need to fold back the ground/drain clamp on the rj-45 shielded connector, so that the rj-45 connector can seat into the amcrest weather proof connector. (after 8 crimped rj-45 connectors, i finally realized this was the crux of my problem with getting the rj-45 connector to seat correctly into the weather proof boot! ). . 3) the camera has some really small and very short screws for the adjustment swivel mount. Three or four turns, and the screw falls out of the threaded hole. The head of the screws strips extremely easy. On the flip, the slots within the head of the screws are large enough to be tooled with a larger phillips screwdriver. . 4) due to the previous mentioned problems, this camera can be a hassle mounting and connecting at heights when using a ladder! . . 5) has an amcrest logo on the side. Really? i thought these were security cameras? so i painted my exterior cameras, which also camouflaged them into the background.

(0) Question: How many watts does this camera take to power? i have a tpe-t160 switch. i can't find any information on power requirements for this model.

(1) Question: Is the ethernet port 10/100 or gigabit? i would rather see factual specs than assumptions as answers. i can't find it on their site.

(2) Question: Why some cameras like these we can see some bright leds surrounding the camera eye, but this just looks black area?

Amcrest Nv2108e 8 Channel Network Recorder (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

Setup of nvr and cameras was straightforward and easy, i was up and running within hours. Configuring access to my cameras via the network locally and remotely proved difficult for me because i'm not tech savvy, so i had to call amcrest support. Amazingly, i was on the phone with a person in less than a minute! . Jeffery was very helpful and he got me connected and informed about my situation in minutes, thank you! one caveat, however, i was informed that the reason for my connection troubles is that currently network access to the nvr and cameras works only through internet explorer. This is disappointing given that ie is essentially being phased out. Amcrest, i know you know this is a problem and your poor tech support team has to answer this question. I was told by jeffery that amcrest is working to achieve plugin support for the modern browsers in the near future which would be good for everyone, otherwise, my experience with your product has been great. -Notice from S. - A. HurstThe manual is very detailed and helpful. It seems to be a little over the top for a non techy user. It requires alot of set up, which is wear i got stuck. I could not get access remotely from my devices, i can only get it to show on the pc. I wanted to be able to get access when i am not home, however i failed i the setup somewhere. . The quality seems good. I just am a nub at technology. I would recommend this and buy it again. I just wish it was a bit easier to walk through the setup.

Tanya, was awesome ! she helped me setup my dvr onto my ethernet network & phone :) super helpful. The amcrest dvr has been very stable for the past 2yrs i've owned the unit with a great user friendly interface . . Thanks amcrest & tanya

I have only had this camera for a couple days so far but i own 5 other amcrest cameras and i expect similar quality and reliability. I would like to speak again in this review, as in my other amcrest product reviews, about the excellent service i had from amcrest tech support. Upon calling amcrest, once you get past the automated phone system it was less than 15 seconds and i was talking to a person. This time bob helped me get this wireless camera connected to my amcrest 16 channel nvr. I had already gotten the camera working following the enclosed instructions but connecting it to the nvr wasn't something i could figure out. Bob quickly got to the task and took me through the steps needed to do this. One fault i would find with this process is that amcrest doesn't seem to have an instruction how to connect a wireless camera to an nvr. At least i couldn't find it. But i would say that it's not that difficult with the proper instruction. . Anyway, bob got this wireless camera up and running on my nvr and he even wrote a note describing the steps for me to use for whenever i need to add another wireless camera to my system. Hopefully i can do this successfully but i know that if i have any problems i can call amcrest tech support and have a quick solution. . I will update this review after using this camera for a few months.

- E. TraceyI researched cameras a bit before i settled on this one. The resolution is great (4mp). The wireless range is good. It has a sd card which will work with up to 128 gb. The angle of view is really good also. It has everything except poe, but you can buy a splitter and injector to make it work on poe. One of my cameras is set up this way and works well so far (only up for several days). I have a security system with honeywell tuxedo controllers and can view the cameras on the tuxedos. They work on both p2p and ip address but i have found the pnp to work reliably both locally and remotely so i advise setting them up that way. The amcrest view app for the iphone is great and will send you alerts. You can playback captured video on the app also so you have a security system without having to pay for cloud storage, etc. Amcrest gives you cloud viewing for free but only for 1 camera. I like using the amcrest view app better anyway and you can always setup the amcrest surveillance software on a pc if you want to as well. Amcrest support is excellent and for the money i don't think you can go wrong with these. The only drawback i have ever found with this model is that the ir is red dots and can attract bugs at night. That would happen for any system that uses this type of night vision and honestly it is a very minor gripe since the picture at night is excellent with the ir.

I've had a few other cameras that have broke out over the last few years(needed a replacement) and i have to say this was one of the easiest by far to set up! i have another amcrest camera and it has been the most dependable. . I took this out of the box, plugged it in to a power outlet and let it boot up then plugged it into my router and followed the instructions. And by follow instructions i mean it is picture instructions of putting in the camera name that you choose, the new password and putting in your router password. Then you unplug the camera from your router and press the button so that you go wireless from your smart phone you're all done! you're able to see your home or business from anywhere! i tried this with my phones wi-fi on and i tried it with my wi-fi off. I also tried it with me being at work through a third-party server(where you have to sign in) and it works just as well. . The motion detection worked very well and was it was easy to set up. What i like is the zone area so that you can highlight just the area that you want for motion detection. . I have had over the last five years probably four or five of these wireless cameras and they mostly have been a bust ending up in the garage sale or being given to relatives because they were to quirky and didn't work that well. This software and hardware are easy, easy, easy. . The infrared is great! as you can see from my pictures it is crisp and well-defined! . . The housing is black painted metal and is pretty sturdy. The red and green light is under the panel on the bottom where the micro sd card goes.

This review is posted across all the products in this system because this is a system review rather than just one of the pieces. . I purchased the bullet camera, in black, from a deal of the day to see if it would be a good candidate to replace my 7 year old lorex system. I have since purchased one dome (956) and two bullet (943) cameras in white, along with their 4108 nvr. My application is for outdoor use only to monitor my property. I like them enough to replace my 640x480 wireless lorex system that had a dvr and three cameras. Going from 640x480 to 2304x1296 is a gain of about 9x in number of pixels. The colors from amcrest is more saturated and is adjustable but i've left them as they came. . These are the things i don't like about amcrest:. 1. Setting up the cameras is always a lesson in frustration and it may be partly my fault since i keep thinking i need to use the password i want to use instead of the default first. I always start with ethernet configuration but the wifi name never seem to be listed. So i switch back and forth between ethernet and wifi configuration until i get to work with ethernet. 2. Lack of clear documentation sucks. Plain and simple. This leads to most of the things i don't like about the system. 3. The event/motion setup on the android mobile app setup is confusing. The meaning of the icons is not obvious. The "hand" one doesn't seem to do anything. So i just use the pc or mac surveillance pro program or the the nvr setup instead which gives me four mask settings. 4. The interface between platforms isn't in sync. A. There is limited functionality in the mobile app as compared to the programs and nvr interface. B. Rotation of the camera view on the mobile app is a nightmare with its confusing icons. Clear in surveillance pro on the pc. Clear via the nvr interface. Missing on the mac. C. Night vision enable/disable is clear on the app but does not seem to be available in surveillance pro on the pc or mac. It's available on the nvr but is more complicated. D. Main video stream disable/enable is only available on the mobile app. , but for some reason while setting the video stream parameters on the mac, one of my cameras' main video stream was disabled. I only found out that was the problem using the mobile app because i can connected to the camera but get no video on the nvr, which defaults to the main video stream while the mobile app defaults to the substream video and i get video on the app but not the nvr! . E. Because my purpose is for outdoor applications, the motion event blocks are too large. I wish they were smaller. So my threshold setting is low, 1 - 4 most of the time, depending on how close i want to trigger a motion event. 5. On the dome camera, because there is the dome, car or street lights create a streak in the image. Headlights will set off a motion event. 6. On the dome camera, limited angle adjustment vs. The bullet camera. I mounted mine upside down on a horizontal surface so the angle will only give me so much sky because of this limitation. Your mileage may vary depending on how it's mounted. 7. No mobile, 2. 5", hard drive mounting capability in the nvr. 8. Event viewing is a bit clunky across all platforms. Worst via the nvr interface. But i've learned to deal with it. If there are any glitches in the playback, it's in how it was recorded, not the device's fault. Verified it when i extracted the video and played it on the pc. 9. Selecting the camera to view as the main screen during playback on the mobile app can be challenging. Must be the sensitivity of the app. This affects the bottom disappearing menu that doesn't seem to have a clear way to display in landscape mode once it goes away. All i do is turn the phone to portrait to get it back before rotating the phone back to landscape. . No system is perfect but i love my new amcrest system. The one problem i had initially was with the mobile app but it turned out it was caused by the crowded 2. 4 ghz channel my router was using. Whenever i added a camera, the app would only connect to the latest camera. Very frustrating. When i was away, like at work, i couldn't connect up to any cameras. So with a free network analyzer app, i found that in my house channels 1, 6, and 11 were the crowded channels. After setting my router to use channel 3, all my connection issues went away and have been perfect ever since for over a week. . These are the things i love about amcrest:. 1. Storage of recordings the way i want. On microsd or nvr, or both. My number two on the list. 2. Files storage is very efficient. Over ten days with four cameras, it's used 29 gb of space with aggressive motion detection. I have a 160 gb mobile hard drive in the nvr. I won't need to purchase terabyte hard drives for this application. I use mobile hard drives because they are quieter than desktop hard drives. 3. High resolution. Much higher than my lorex cameras. 4. Clear, saturated color picture. 5. Ip67 with all the o-rings and gaskets included. The one for the antenna is to got outside on the male end rather than inside the female end. But i've used it in the female end just fine. I also use silicone tape to make sure everything is water tight. 6. Wide view at 100 degrees, much wider than my old lorex, which was less than 60 degrees, i believe. 7. Ease of mounting. Dome camera came with a template. Bullet camera is all connected as one. 8. Reasonable price. They are about half the price as my old lorex cameras which were prone to disconnection. No disconnections or resets have been required thus far. 9. Cameras can be set up to auto sync for time at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. 10. Cameras can set set up to automatically change for daylight saving. Same with the nvr. 11. Auto-maintenance to reset the the cameras at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. 12. Auto-maintenance to delete files at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. I set mine to delete after 30 days. 13. Customizable almost everything like bit rate and frame rate, video flip, mirror, and rotate, color saturation, night mode auto or off, color or black and white. Hard wire ethernet or wireless. Naming of the channels, though it's a little obscure and one field is local to the application used rather than a global setting. Again, documentation will go a long way in understanding how that actually works. 14. Although playback is a bit clunky, it's much better than my old lorex system which was in list format over multiple pages. This is in a timeline format much like you'd see with the nest but not as easy to select. 15. Not affected by the brightness of the sun. My old lorex camera would go on the fritz just with the sun reflecting off the lawn, with most of the picture showing solid blocks of color, triggering motion events continuously. It was worst with snow on the ground. 16. Solidly built cameras. Feels very high quality. 17. Most importantly, it's reliable. Every morning when i turn on the monitor, there are my four cameras working with synchronized time. . I have a four camera system because i liked the cameras and picture quality so much. With the lorex, three cameras was all i could put up with. Plus, they were expensive. It was a "good enough" system. Now i have a great system that's pleasing to view at a great price point.

Amcrest Outdoor 3 Megapixel Wireless Security (ip3m 943w) FAQ.

Excellent camera! i am really glad i picked a new brand to try. The angle (100 degrees) is excellent and the clarity (full hd) is unbelievable. . Update: it does not support 5 ghz wifi (802. 11a), so if you need that, this will not work. My area is crowded and the 2. 4 ghz bands no longer work. I had to buy a 5 ghz wifi hotspot and switch all my devices to 5 ghz. -Notice from B. Broyles, Dudley

Owned for a couple of months - works great - reliable wi-fi connection. Wide angle of view. Remote historical playback works great on all devices. Need to clean up time "cuing" of viewing software but it works ok. This is the highest definition camera i have ever used and the picture quality reflects it. Highly recommend.

- Q. VeronicaThis will be a whole new review since i finally have all of the functions of the camera working. It has been a frustrating experience and my biggest mistake was to try and do the install from the quick start guide. It is much more informative to watch one of the youtube videos on how to complete the installation. If i had done that the basic installation would have taken only a few minutes instead of hours. What is important to know is that if you need to check on the red and green led's they are under the cover on the bottom of the camera where the sd card goes. . Secondly, i never got the wifi installation option to work but (and again if i had watched the youtube video) i would have discovered that when you plug the camera in to the power outlet, wait the 30 seconds for it to boot up and then initialize it from the comfort of being inside using a network cable. When the camera is disconnected from the power cable / adapter the camera retains its set up. I installed the camera outside thinking that if i unplugged it from power it would lose its memory. . The final challenge i had was to get the sd card to record movement. I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work and had to call on the technical support folks to help me out. It seems that it is important that when the sd card is put in the camera the camera needs to be powered off. Then the only way to get the sd card to work if it won't record is to use the ip config software that comes on the cd. But that might mean that the camera doesn't show up in the list. Tech support gave me straight forward instructions on how to manually put the ip address of the camera into the ip config list and then work on the sd card. . The sd card formatted and i was able to record movement. Therefore, the bottom line is, that the information is out there and the technical support person i worked with, melissa, gave me exactly what i needed. I am pleased with the result and happy that i now have a camera pointed at my driveway since we've had a lot of car burglaries lately.

i have been using trendnet over the years, recently i got a synology nas to record cameras. I needed new cameras to replace old or discontinued ones. For some reason synology uses amcrest on their demo, so i got one of these with 90degrees fov. I am happy. I can see my entire pool and it surroundings, even the walls. Previous camera can only see the pool. I have my synology setup to record 1080p only when motion is detected as you can see in the video it is set to 1080p. I only wish they have audio support on this type, others have 2 way audio on the dome type. Over all i'm happy with this.

Poe's one cable design made planning and installation simple. Everything worked right out of the box. Would highly recommend this product and amcrest cameras.

Easy to use, easy to setup, and the poe ports on the nvr make it excellent choice so you don't have to purchase a separate poe injector.

I have spent a lot of money on many different camera setups by amcrest. First of all poe is the way to go, all amcrest cameras have adapters if you don't have poe. I run them all with cat6 and you can find the cable and everything you need cheep. The app works great from anywhere in the world for free. However for replays you need to be on site or have a very expensive and fast connection. But real time works great and same with notifications as long as the cameras are not in night mode (to much dust in the air sets it off). Keep areas well it to fix that. . I have had some of the worst customer service(hung up on me multiple times and didn't even speak good english) offended i couldn't understand him and best customer service at higher levels (spoke great english) but couldn't fix the problem at first, then sent equipment to fix it. For stuff this like this that's the best u can ask for. . I have told friends on other systems about these cameras and they love the quality and the price. . So far i have had them 1year with all phoenix az brutal seasons. Other than winter, winter is nice here :)

Amcrest Prohd Outdoor Security Camera (ip2m 844ew) FAQ.

i bought this camera to monitor my driveway and most of the front of my house. I have it mounted right over my driveway and the wide angle is perfect for this setup. I think the angle is a little wider than the advertised 93 degrees, which is a good thing. I also have another one mounted over the deck in the rear of my house. The camera is white so it's inconspicuous as well. This camera is true 1080p and nearly matches the clarity of the ip3m and ip4m cameras, which i have also tested. Mounting it can be a little tricky until you understand how it should be positioned. You have to pay extra attention to where the wire is positioned as you tighten the ring. Although tricky, the mounting style allows for some fairly flexible angles since the camera is basically a ball. You can twist and turn it how you see fit. . The only thing i don't particularly care for is that it has a fairly large rj45 connector that must be positioned outside of the camera. This would be fine for an in-wall installation but i ended up running my cables under my siding and the size of the connector made it pretty difficult. Keep in mind that if you plan on running the cables into your house that you will be required to drill a fairly large hole into your house in order to fit the connector through. To be fair, it's not really possible to make the connector much smaller than it is but i think it would have been a good option to have the ability to plug an rj45 connector directly into the back of the camera. This would eliminate the need for the larger connector and allow you to drill a much smaller hole. There certainly would be enough room on the back of this camera to do this. The infrared performance is good. The light distribution isn't completely even but that's nearly impossible to find at this price point, especially with the clarity of this camera. Overall, i'm happy with it and i personally think this poe dome camera has the best bang for your buck. -Notice from C. Guest, British Columbia

All the features you typically expect in a camera of this price, including email alerts with snapshots or video. Browser support for firefox and internet explorer, possibly others. Night vision could be better, but is sufficient at a range of 25-30 ft. If you need longer range night vision, this camera may not do the job. Works well on my netgear poe switch. . For initial setup, the camera was configured for dhcp - i had to scan the subnet to find it. A series of pings would do the job for most people. Once located, connect on port 80 to complete your configuration. . You can mask off an area of the image for alerting, which reduces false alarms, a very nice feature.

- B. SusanWe purchased three of these and paired it with an amcrest nv4108.  amcrest nv4108 1080p (8ch 1080p/3mp/4mp/5mp) network video recorder - supports up to 8 x 1080p (2. 1mp) wifi ip cameras 30fps realtime, supports up to 4tb hdd (not included) (no built-in wifi). . The setup was quick and we were recording to the nvr in less than 15 minutes. We will update this review as time passes. . Pros:. -quick and easy setup. -clear picture. -tons of configuration options. -free 4hours cloud storage. -pairs easily with an amcrest nvr. -dense and sturdy build. . Cons:. -tbd

I currently have 3 of these dome cameras, 2 of which are being used and the 3rd about to go up. They are great cameras very clear. The infrared shoots a long distance. I have one at the front door and it lights up the whole area on camera and the other is just under the eve of my second story watching the back yard. The infrared on the back yard lights up the whole area i am monitoring and its easily 20+ feet in the air. These cameras should work with any d/nvr that follows the onvif standard. . Comes with a pattern to ensure you drill holes in the right spot before hanging. Base has 4 screws to connect to the wall and a clamping screw around the whole camera that holds it in place very well. The camera is kinda built to give a downward angle just like the picture. If you mount it and try to get a horizontal view the cable at the back of the camera will hit the edge of the mount. Be sure to mount the camera a little higher than what you want to monitor and you wont have a problem. . Great cameras, synced right away with my amcrest nvr which is poe so i didnt have to run any extra cables other than the cat6

I'm a broadcast engineer, so i was obviously going to nerd out when it came to a baby monitor. I'm not disappointed - especially for the price. The image quality is not something i'd make live tv with, but it's not bad at all. . I had it going on safari, and iphone in about 10min - tho none of the qr scanning stuff was all that helpful. (i used the ip address finder from the website then hit the ip directly. ). . They lose most of a star because the plug-in required for chrome is awful, and the windows 10 edge browser points to it as well. I'm using firefox on windows 10, and safari on mac - both work fine. But the chrome plug-in is basically unusable. You can view via vlc, but the web / mobile apps are required for the ptz and mic features to be used. . In general, this thing is quite capable, enough that i'm changing all the default port values, as it makes it a lil too easy to get advanced features enabled with potentially very insecure default settings. . Here are some of the unexpected pluses / standout features / config notes:. They have some cloud thing that i've been free to ignore - nice that i don't have to call home to the corporate servers to setup my camera. Works with vlc, also does multicast. Power is via usb, and the included usb to power plug is very thin - easy to fit into a power strip. It also comes with a clip mount - unexpected and useful. I have an apple airport extreme base station as my router, and while upnp was enabled by default, it's mode was not auto by default, but when i enabled auto, it worked perfectly - i did not need to touch my router to get external access working. It's not immediately clear, but "sub-stream" is a 2nd, lower quality, lower bandwidth version of the video - and the ios app defaults to using this - calling it "sd" vs "hd" in amcrest view app (which is the one you need for this camera. ). . I ultimately set my ios app w/ 2 devices, one pointing to the local ip address, the other to my external ip, so i can use it via lte. My main/hd stream is jacked up to max quality, but my substream "sd" is set low enough that loads well even w 2 bars. Nice. . My other 2 dislikes revolve around my inability to monitor if the stream is being monitored. There is no on cam indicator light, and the set up apps do not show you a list of the currently connected users. It's great that i can get external vlc access working so fast, but this feels sketchy when i can't tell who is watching. There is ip/mac address based white-listing, so this can be managed, but i'd still like the admin apps to give me a better idea about connected users. I would not be surprised if i could enable something within the deep alarm system, but this should be a dashboard feature. Last nit pick is that it would be nice if it went to last-position on restart - you'll want to set a preset once you get it finally set up, as otherwise it goes home. . I'm happy, but i'm also taking the time to make sure that this very capable device is moderately secured - it's got all the preference options i'd want, but they'll also require a bunch of manual adjustments.

Amcrest Ethernet Optional Recording Ip2m 841eb (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

This is a good camera for the money. I bought it on discount at online store and it has performed perfectly. I am pretty savvy with computers and it took me a bit to get it to do what i wanted it to. There is quite a bit of functionality, which is nice in the end. I have had it running non-stop for over a month now with a 64gig sd card in it and i access it remotely from amcrestview and using the free surveillance pro software from theirwebsite. I had trouble setting up my pc to act as a dvr for the camera but mellissa at amcrest replied to my email within 24 hours or so and showed me how. I was not using the correct login and password for the pc setup when i added it to devices setting it up in the nvr mode. The default is admin, admin. Then you can go from there. Otherwise none of the fields in the pc-nvr software will let you setup a hard drive or server for recording, i tried everything. I needed a poe, ptz ip camera and they are all quite overpriced it seems. This one was a good way to get started and it has worked well. I plan on buying more amcrest cameras as i build out the whole home automation scheme. There was one thing that disappointed me when my new camera first arrived - the box had obviously been opened before. All the seals had clearly been removed and 're-sealed'. With online store's excellent return policy i decided to give the unit a try to see if everything was working okay. The camera had no blemishes or anything like that but the contents had obviously been unpacked for some reason. I will not buy from this seller (firstvision technologies) again for this reason. Unless otherwise identified, i expect a new unit, in a factory sealed box. No tampering. I also bought the tp link poe injector and that has worked well too. I have over 100 feed of cat5 feeding this single camera and have no issues with it. The camera audio works pretty badly, but that is not a big issue for me, really. I will be buying another one of these as they are on sale often, but not from firstvision technologies as they sent me an opened box. I'm not sure how all that works since it was probably fulfilled by online store, but as the seller that is their problem in my world. -Notice from A. Dorine, New Hampshire

Setting up this camera is not always the easiest thing. For one thing, i had to enter a time zone that is not mine (maybe i missed something). However, it works beautifully once setup. I use it with synology surveillance station (both desktop and ios) and with amcrest ios software, both very good. I will definitely buy more of them.

- L. LindseySummary: excellent smartphone app, power over the ethernet cable adds improved security. . One annoying bit is that you have to use the computer software in order to set the on. . Summary: fantastic ip camera with pan, tilt and digital zoom sets up easily for remote viewing and interaction - down angle is somewhat limited if used on a shelf, etc. Smartphone app works well but advanced functionality limited. . I currently have a amcrest wired system as well as a foscam c1 and 2 of the lorex ping ip cameras, so i've had decent experience with a few similar products. I'd give this one a definite 2 thumbs up. . Setup: quick and easy, exactly as the instructions described. Using the power over ethernet adapter, you still only have one cable running to the camera, but now it's carrying both power and the signal. This is nice as the problems i have with our wifi cameras tend to be with the wifi going down from time to time. . One cool feature with this systeml is that you can speak and be heard from the camera unit. It's got 1-way audio - kind of like a walkie talkie - you switch from listening to speaking. I was out of town on a business trip, but was able to alert the family that i was watching and then i could see them when i called on the phone. . The normal view you get on your smartphone is regular resolution - click on the hd button to get full resolution, though frame rate will typically go down. . A few notes:. 1) each time you use it you have to click on the camera and enable the view - an extra 3-4 touches on your phone which seem a waste of time. 2) pan, tilt, and zoom in the app can be a bit tricky to use, particularly if you have a laggy connection. You have to hit the button in the app, but then you have to swipe in the direction you want the camera to move and hold your finger there while it pans. It's so-so when you are on the same network, but the lag means that you typically overshoot where you wanted to move the camera. I suggest turning down the steps in the controls so it doesn't go as far each time. 3) the downward angle is mediocre. I have it on the fireplace mantle, which is pehaps 4 feet off the ground. Still, you can just see the base trim on the other side of the room about 12 feet away. Another 10 degrees of downward angle would be good, otherwise you really would want to mount this on a wall or ceiling for better viewing. 4) the zoom is a digital zoom only - you can only zoom so far before the picture starts to get grainy. It's also a center zoom, so with the downward angle noted, you can't zoom into something on the bottom of the frame. This could in theory be addressed in the app. 5) night vision is fantastic - this has a ton of ir led's dumping out tons of illumination to the night - vision mode. 6) in order to set the clock you have to use the computer software - kind of annoying since otherwise i interface only with my smartphone. . Despite the issues noted above, i'd still say that i more than like this camera - some room for improvement in the app for controlling the camera as well as viewing. . Free/discounted sample provided for evaluation. My goal is an honest and informative review. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know!

Camera seems to work just fine however confused with electrical installation. I have downloaded the app on my android phone and am able to see reasonably good video on my android phone. Have not viewed on a computer monitor yet. Looking forward to seeing high quality video next week on a 1080p monitor when i install the viewer on my computer. . The confusion on the installation is this: in the sales advertisement, it indicates that this camera needs a poe power source. . This is a power over ethernet (poe) camera and requires a separate poe injector or poe switch to operate. A power supply and a poe injector are not included, and are sold separately. We recommend purchasing a tp-link poe injector or poe switch if you currently do not have any type of poe power supply. . Because of the above statement, i did purchase a poe kit for extra money. As it turns out, it wasn't needed and i wasted money. Included in the box was a small wall wort type 5v power supply. I am using this included power supply which is supplying power to the camera. I connected a cat 5 cable directly from the camera to the non poe switch and the camera is working fine without any poe injection. I tried contacting amcrest and they were not helpful in explaining why poe was a requirement for using the camera. . Without any poe injection, this camera is working fine and the included 5v power supply is directly plugged into the back of the camera's power input port supplying power. Somehow, either i got lucky or the documentation is wrong. Not sure what to think. Can someone clarify? -greg-

This cam has a wide field of view(fov) compare with other internet cams, which is good. For a cam with wide fov, the objects appear small; while for narrower fov cam, the objects appears larger. So to make motion detect work for this cam, you need to adjust the sensitivity higher.

- N. SarahProduct is good. Software setup can be frustrating. Clint at support helped me. Disappointed that the webview software from amcrest themselves was completely useless on this device (current firmware); same with chrome. Using internet explorer with their required extension was the only way to get this device working.

Keep an eye on your home from anywhere in the world. Easy setup with qr code!

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-956E White

The problem, of course, with hard wired cameras is running an ethernet cable to wherever you want to install the camera, therefore, being lazy, i tried to install some battery operated wifi cameras (ring stick up cam). I really wanted them to work, but they did not work for me. . Since, i have purchased three of these amcrest poe (power over ethernet) cameras, and installed them around the house. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras. Running the ethernet cables was a really big job, but i bit the bullet, got over being lazy for a day, and just did it. What a difference having a real camera makes! i am using them with my synology network attached storage and its motion detection (using the synology surveillance station package that comes with the synology nas) is 100% reliable - once properly set up it is giving me 100% true and 0% false motion detection. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison, but imo the amcrest camera build quality is night and day better than the ring stick up cam. . I purchased three of these to use around my house after trying the battery operated/wifi ring stick up cam, which for me was a fail, and am using it with my existing synology network attached storage that i have had for several years. . Now i understand why a hard wired camera is vastly better than a battery camera. It is always watching, and the synology surveillance station package is constantly analyzing the video for motion. (other surveillance systems, or even the camera itself, can do this too. ) once it detects motion, it records a video clip to the nas. Also, you can specify a lead in and lead out time from the time motion is detected to begin and end recording. This is called "pre- and post-recording time" in the synology surveillance station package. This can be set for up to 30 seconds for pre-recording and up to 120 seconds for post-recording in the sinology surveillance package. I have this set to 5 seconds for pre-recording, and 20 seconds for post-recording, so i never see a video beginning with someone walking away from the camera, or a video clip with someone suddenly appearing in the range of the camera, as i often saw on my battery operated cameras. . Rather, what i see, every time, is the person walking up to the the camera, because it is always on and monitoring, and when it detects motion and records the clip to my synology nas had drive it records what the camera saw 5 seconds before it first detects motion, and 20 seconds after it no longer is detecting motion. This just is not possible with a battery operated camera, which must be asleep to save battery, and then is wakened from its sleep and then starts recording. . Amcrest also has a cloud service, which i tried before i decided to use the nas. Their free version is just really for testing, it is pretty limited; i believe their paid version starts at $10 per month. But you can purchase an inexpensive nas for under $200, plus the cost of two hard drives, which do not have to be large expensive drives unless you want to use the nas for other purposes, and the surveillance station app works very well. . These cameras are not on the list of cameras that synology surveillance station currently supports, but i set them up as amcrest ip2m-841b, which ss does support, and they work fine. . I use them with a d-link poe ethernet switch with no issues. . - edit 11/5/2017 -. . Since i wrote this review, synology surveillance station has been updated, and as mentioned in one of the comments to this review now supports this camera. . I have purchased 6 more of these cameras, i now have a total of 9 around my property, both inside and outside and they continue to work very well, and have had no failures. I did receive one camera that had one of the screws for the cover installed so tight that i could not remove it, but returned that to online store for a refund with no issues. . I use the motion detection capability of surveillance station, not the camera. It does take some tweaking in surveillance station to get the motion detection working for zero to very few false detections, by such techniques as masking out areas such as roads where cars are driving, the tops of trees that can move in the wind, etc. , and setting the sensitivity and threshold one of the biggest problems i have had with one of my cameras is shadows on a wall that are cast by vegetation moving from wind, but it is possible to minimize false detections and still detect people, and in almost all of my cameras i now have it down to zero false detections, except when camera changes from day to night, outdoor lights coming on in the evening, etc.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Vandal Security (ip3m 956ew) FAQ.

I'm building my home surveillance system piece by piece and these are a worthwhile addition. In my opinion these are very well-built cameras, and i plan to order more of them to complete my system. Heavy-duty cast aluminum case, and glass dome is heavy and seems sufficiently thick. Sealing arrangement is very good. The o-ring is arranged so mounting holes are outside of the sealed area, and a small bag of desiccant is fastened to the wires inside to absorb any moisture that finds its way in. Documentation consists of a quick-start guide (in decent english! ) which provided enough, but not an abundance, of information and a small cd with the configuration utility. I didn't use the cd and instead visited the maker's web page and downloaded the latest version. The utility s/w quickly and easily found the 2 new units i added to the network and it was easy to re-name them and change the pw and network settings and to update the firmware. The camera supports a web-based viewer that i tried out but won't use use for anything than verifying camera operation and adjusting the lens position. It required several add-ins/plug-ins be added to the browser (i used firefox) and frankly the picture quality wasn't good and at first i was disappointed. . However under blue iris it is a different story. Blue iris has the config file included for these and they integrated perfectly with only a click or two. Resolution both day and night under blue iris is very sharp, clear, and well-focused and i found no reason to change the default settings. The ir illumination is sufficient but seems a little weak compared to the bullet-style cameras i have in my system (but maybe i'm expecting too much from these rather smallish cameras in a dark outside location. ). . My only real complaint is the lens will not move more towards the horizon than the picture in the online store listing shows. I mounted one on a low roof overhang (no other mounting options, unfortunately) and although the cam works fine, i wish i could move the lens more towards 90 degrees from the mounting plane to better view the area i want to protect - as it is i see a lot more of the ground than i like. The camera/lens body moves around easily but there is a pin that stops the lens if trying to move it towards the horizon. I cut the plastic pin off but still couldn't move it much further because the lens assembly then bumps the circuit board, and i will probably replace it with a bullet cam in the future. If mounting the cam on a horizontal surface the cam needs to be elevated otherwise you will have a lot of ground in the picture. Not the cam's fault certainly but something to consider when planning your cam's placement. . There is a slot for a micro-sd card on the camera's mb but i didn't try it out and don't recall it being mentioned in the documentation. Just noting that it is there. Right next to it is the hard reset button if you forget your password or screw up the configuration. . Overall i am very satisfied with these and plan to add a few more around the house as the budget allows. -Notice from Y. Kellie, Maryland

I purchased this camera to overlook the driveway and monitor the mailbox. I wanted something small and unnoticeable. I have several pan/tilt cameras in the house, but this was my first outdoor amcrest camera. When i first got the camera it was smaller and more discrete than i thought, making it more than perfect for my install. . Once i had it installed i didn't know that the camera rotated on 3 axes inside it's housing. It has one axis that rotates left/right 360*, one that controls pitch up/down 180, * and another that rotates the entire lens. The lens axis is hard to notice, but it rotates like a puck on ice. I wasn't happy with the fisheye direction at first installed, but sliding the lens 90* fixed the small sliver view to a nice wide angled view of the whole driveway and mailbox. . I used amcrest ip config software for the initial port configuration and added the camera into my ip cam viewer app. There is a web based gui, but it can be a little glitchy. I would give this 5 stars, but documentation on the camera is pretty limited and i had to search their site for the ip software. Other than that, this is a great camera in a small package.

- V. BroylesI really can't say any more than what's already been said by everyone else. They are good cameras for their price point. I have two of these cameras and they work well. But longevity is the bigger question. And i'm wondering how they'll do. During the frosty winters. . I run two of these outside; one for the front door/entry way and the other for the driveway. I'll be adding another for the back yard/back door eventually. . Here's my equipment config that's working well so far:. . 1. Two of these cameras set to 1080p. 2. Tp-link 8-port poe switch (4 poe / 4 regular). 3. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless media bridge mode. 4. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless router mode. 5. Old dell dimension 9100 pentium d 2. 8ghz w/4gb ram. 6. Blue iris software set to record "direct-to-disk". . My setup works decently well. Cpu usage stays around 50%-60% during the day and around 30%-40% at night time (black and white). Adding a third camera though will most likely require a computer upgrade. . The cameras have good color during the day time and during the night i switch them over to black and white. The ir range on them is a bit limited but is adequate for i use them for. One word of caution, to get the most out of the ir don't have something in the cameras field of view that is bright in color as it will wash out the picture at night time and cause darker areas to be even darker. Using the ir in my driveway looks far better than the ir in the entry way that is surrounded by yellow siding from the house. But, the camera app software does provide you with enough settings to tweak to get the image almost where you need it. . This is my first foray into security cameras and they seem to do the job perfectly. But, how long will they last?

all i can say is wow! . I had purchased a few security system before and it does not compare to the quality and performance of this great product. This amcrest 8-channel nvr gives you a great image quality like no other product i owned before. The motion detection is awesome! it will send a picture to your email when you select an area to detect the motion, the night vision quality is excellent, and the interface is user friendly. The customer support from amcrest is very reliable and professional, i had never call to a company where they service their customer for free after a year of having the product. They offer the support because their priority is satisfaction. I want to thank luis and the whole staff because they put up with all my questions and all my calls. I'm 100% satisfied. I had recommended this system to my friends and when i show them my cameras on my cellphone their get very impressed about the quality. My friend austin scotto just bought this system and we just installed it, and he is happy with the system. I uploaded a few photos and a nice video of my woodpecker. "enjoy! "

Bought two of these, they are great. I am knocking off a star simply because they came with a cat5 cable and not cat5e. It does not affect performance, but cat5 was deprecated in 2001, and knocking off a star is as close as i can get to a wag of the finger.

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-954E White

Purchased this to keep an eye on my mailbox after i was a victim of mail/id theft. Solid, aluminum unit. The adjustable cover on the top does not really do much as it only extents for a maximum of 1/4" or so. Was easy to install (against wall under an eave; i used a junction box to cover the cables and connectors, it's quite a bundle with separate poe (waterproof) and power connector), and it worked right away. Tip: do not crimp the ethernet connector on your cable until you have the camera, as it needs to feed through the supplied waterproofing sleeve first. I am using a poe injector. I will probably get more and then upgrade the injector to a poe switch. The image quality is excellent, as well as the integrated web based interface. I have a wd nas that comes with a milestome arcus surveillance app, but i decided to just use the camera's interface and management tools and store the streams and motion detection triggered snapshots to my nas. The iphone app gives a quick live view. Will probably get a couple more of them to monitor the entire perimeter of my house.

I'd give the one 4. 5 stars. Added this one in addition to my foscam and dahua cameras. This one has been the most adjustable one so far with the ability to swing the camera and angle 180 degrees. It's also the highest resolution camera in my collection. All functions are working as advertised and the installation went well and didn't take long. The only design change i would make is with the cable connector. I'd like the option to connect it to the main board so that i could have fed the cable through a smaller cat5 sized hole, rather than a larger hole to accommodate the rj45 plug. There's no room in the housing for the cable and connectors, so if you want those fed into the wall or surface where the camera is being mounted, you just need a larger hole to feed the cables back into. Not a big deal, i just like smaller holes in my house where possible. (the dahua cameras had enough room behind the housing for the cable and connectors, so you can just feed the cat5 through a small hole in the house and crimp an end on it. ) i mounted this camera right into the aluminum eves with the screws provided, still seems to be strong enough. I recommend a bead of silicone caulk around the mount to plug up any holes where spiders and wasps might try to make a home. Using this camera with the blue iris software. To get the ip i downloaded the amcrest configuration utility and it discovered it with no problems.

- D. OpheliaThis is a great product and has many capabilities. I am not new to the amcrest product line as i am private security consultant. In my last job i installed the amcrest ultrahd 3-megapixel (2048 x 1536p) 8ch network poe video security system (nvr kit) - four 3mp poe outdoor bullet ip cameras, 98ft night vision, 2tb hdd, power over ethernet (black) with four cameras. The client came back and said i want three more cameras in addition to the four that came in the kit. This nvr (network video recorder) handles them great. Amcrest does a great job with their poe line of cameras. Their poe line of nvr 's have either a 4/8/ or 16 port 10/100 switch, 8 in this case, that supports the industry standard of 802. 3 af. For most people this doesn't matter, but it's worth noting. Everytime i have plugged in an amcrest poe camera the onbaord switch has had no probles powering them and showing an image and giving them an ip address usng its own subnet with dhcp. . Onto the hard drive, this specific model has a 2 terabyte seagate model in it (see attached photo. ) if you go about reading reviews on the standalone amcrest nvr/ dvr recorders people say "i didn't get a hard drive! " this is true, if you buy one of their standalone recorders they do not include a hard drive for a couple reasons. One: you choose your model and brand of wanted hard drive. For me/ my clients i steer them towards western digital purple series as these are engineered for high write rates (recording) as opposed to engineered for quickly reading (watching the footage). Secondly, it brings the price down for you at the time of purchase. I don't have to tell you that quality security products aren't cheap and these are far from the most expensive. If you reaaally want to spend some money check out axis, honeywell, bosch, panasonic etc. Amcrest (previosuly branded foscam) are good cameras, but are not the professional pieces like those aforementioned. . For those that are interested what's under the hood, or other ports, and or plugs, i have attached photos of what is on and in the chasis(remove four screws and top comes off to acess hard drive etc. ). . Overal i love the amcrest brand and their whole line of poe/ network video products. They have had calls from me about rma's and returns and warranties, and i have also exchanged propmt emails with them and have always been happy. Their csutomer service is bar none! i have eead reviews about people waitingg on hold, etc, however their website does list their sucustomertomer service phone hours, and the time zone for them. . At this point you're probably thinking this dude has to be paid or even worse, work for them, but surprisingly i don't. I just honestly love this brand of products and am generally 95% happy with the products and always 100% happy with the customer service. . The only thing that they could improve that i see right now is a dome or bullet varifocal ip camera. For most of their outdoor ip cameras you have an 81-95 degree viewing angel, which is great for large specific areas. However you may have only one area you want to view and it be far off, or a certain doorwayor object. Therefore that is what i would reccomend, definitely not anything to take a star off for. If amcrest roll those out i will definitely be a buyer. . Overall love love love amcrest!

Hopefully, these will provide long service with no failures, but time will tell. I initially bought this amcrest 3mp poe and a foscam 19900, and haven't had alot of time to play with them but, i am going to buy two more these due to the following reasons. - the amcrest seemed to have a nice clear picture optically, where the foscam is blurry around the edges. - the amcrest runs roller then the foscam. - the night vision seems much more full and not directed like the foscam. . Things i don't like. -mounting these to the underneath of my over hang sucks, i cannot get full range of motion, it needs to be able to swivel left and right after mounting. This cannot happen due to left and right are set due to the fixed mount (screws), . Yes i could manipulate it so it would move left and right (not evenly) but then the problem would be up and down. -mounting again, . These need an extender (to bring it down from the overhang more) or maybe just an included optional mount that would allow for a fully adjustable underneath/overhang mount. -software seems very rich and full of options, but is less intuitive than the foscam in my opinion. It didn't want to work well with safari at first, . Specifically it wouldn't let me download the plugin needed to view the video at first. Not sure why. But it did work later. . Recap, good picture, 3mp, power over ethernet, price was good, but mounting needs to be tweaked for us that want to mount to an overhang on our house and building. Mounting to the side of a structure is more intrusive, more work and damaging than mounting to the overhang.

The amcrest prohd 4 mp poe bullet camera is a rebranded version of a camera manufactured by dahua technology (based in china). Dahua makes some great hardware, but they seem to have little inclination to support their products after they sell them. Amcrest provides that missing support, and also provides a cloud service for people who don't want to hassle with a dvr or computer to save the video. In addition, amcrest provides firmware updates (best of luck getting those from dahua). I have already downloaded and installed one firmware update for this camera. . The web-based interface is well designed overall. Not every feature is documented, but you can figure out most of the important settings on your own fairly quickly. At maximum resolution of 2688 x 1520 pixels, video quality in both daytime and nighttime is excellent (see the attached photos). There's a little distortion along the edges, but for the price i have no complaints. . One thing i do recommend - if you're going to buy this camera (and you'll probably wind up buying more than one), set up a computer running blue iris or security spy to record the video locally for maximum quality. Most dvrs and nvrs will downsample the image, resulting in loss of image quality, while amcrest's cloud service requires a monthly service fee. Bite the bullet and set up your own home video recording computer system, which will also let you monitor your cameras via a smartphone. . My only complaint about this camera is that amcrest ships them with a default 3. 6 mm focal length lens, which results in some "wasted" pixels due to too wide an angle of capture when you're trying to record from a distance. This camera can accept up to a 6 mm lens, and it would be nice if amcrest sold these cameras with an option for higher focal length lenses, or at least sold the lenses with instructions on how to replace them.

Camera was delivered on time and was well packaged. Installed it, added an amcrest nvr and it works great. Clear picture, good software & app. Provides a nice wide view of my front porch. Love that you can customize the "alert" areas. Alerts are sent from the areas that you want. You can eliminate areas such as a street with cars going by, tree with moving branches and leaves, etc. Very happy so far with this purchase. This is my second amcrest camera. Vary happy with both.

The amcrest camera works awesome. The view is pretty solid even at a significant distance. I have a 400 ft driveway and it easily sees a car/person coming down from the top. I can't quite make out a license plate at that distance, but i feel the quality is pretty solid. I am using it with a synology 1815 8 bay unit. The only think is figuring out which way it mounts, because the arm that the camera mounts to only has on recess and this can limit the angles you can aim the camera (as opposed to a ball/socket joint that would be completely orientable). Works great with poe. . So - great quality, minor limitations for positioning.

X. Sheila, South Gloucestershire

The video quality is good but there are some problems with the hardware and software. The hardware seems like it would be nice, but mine has a screw loose inside it clicking when i shake it, since it's a fixed mount i didn't bother returning it, but that's a ridiculous defect. In the software i'm trying to setup the profiles and it works as expected except the night vision setting doesn't save along with the rest of the options, so the schedule is useless for controlling that. I went looking for a new firmware and there is none available, so it seems no fix for this. Also note this model has no internal sd and no microphone. . -. Edit, i bumped it up to 4 stars from 3 because it's running smoothly and video feed working great. That's the primary goal of the device, so i feel like 3 stars was too little.

Love these amcrest cameras, clear resolution, inexpensive, tech support is the best. The tech representative clay carlson was very professional and courteous.

I have completely switched over my home surveillance system to 4mp amcrest products from a mix of other brands, the exception being the excellent 3mp 20x optical zoom sunba ptz which is the star of my system. I am a big fan of the amcrest brand. I'm not a pro, just home hobbyist, and basing that statement on my experience with them. I've never had a failure and i've learned their software setup and how they work in blue iris. . This particular camera, the ip4m-1024e, works well for me in an area under a porch where the 84 degree field of view was needed to look down a long-ish sidewalk. Previous cam in that spot had 90+ degree field of view and caused far too many false motion triggers from flying insects and rain. Plus it was harder to recognize faces from a distance. I get more snow artifacts with the 4mp cams in dark with ir than i did with the 2 or 3 mp cams but i believe that is just the nature of the technology. . Be prepared for the extra processing overhead when adding or upgrading to 4mp cams. I wasn't and even after doing the usual blue iris optimization steps, my old dell optiplex with a i7-2600 cpu was still running near max all of the time and it coaxed me (didn't take much) to build a new (definitely overkill) pc from online store-provided parts dedicated to the security system. . The cam is relatively small and unobtrusive. Mounting arrangement is flexible however i wish the clamping screws provided were torx or allen headed because the phillips heads strip fairly easily unless your phillips screwdrivers are sharp and pristine. My screwdrivers weren't pristine by a long shot. But a quick trip to the local ho depot cured the problem with some stainless allen headed capscrews. And a new phillips screwdriver for the toolbox. . Otherwise the camera functions fine. The amcrest setup program found it instantly, and it is a breeze to set network parameters etc. Use with blue iris.

I've always enjoyed amcrest's cameras. I had a mixture of their 2mp and 3mp dome and bullet style cameras in the past, but recently moved to a new house. So i've purchased one of these cameras in question (amcrest ultrahd outdoor 4-megapixel poe vandal dome ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, ik10 vandal-proof, 4mp (2688 tvl), ip4m-1028e (white)), which shipped quickly. The web gui is easy to understand and configure. . The picture quality during the day is incredible, and full 30fps 4mp. Even at night, it has plenty of ir leds to illuminate the path of which it is pointed at. It has a microsd card reader built in, that it can do local video recording and is configurable for either full-time rotation, or just motion recording with rotation. I also have a synology nas running the surveilliance station, which also records from the camera. Absolutely happy with the purchase of this camera and looking to add two more to the collection to cover all points of entry to my house. . The size of the dome is excellent, not big at all! i have it powered from a poe switch, which operates easily. Installation took maybe 30 minutes, just because i had to fish the pre-ran ethernet line out of the ceiling without making a bigger hole. Then once it was online in the permanent location, i was able to aim it properly, install the "security dome" back on, and done! . . I highly recommend this product, it is stable, the image quality in daytime and nighttime is most excellent, great clarity. Will definitely purchase (at least) two more models very soon!

This is a nice ip camera; the images look amazing, and the build quality is first-rate. I would not say it is geared towards "the masses" like many of the wireless ip cameras. That can be good or bad depending on your application. But if you want a solid, "permanent" outdoor camera this one is definitely a fantastic one. . The biggest downside of the camera is that it is not wireless. You must run a network cable to it. If you have a business or home and want to install the camera permanently, this will be a one-time effort that will probably be worth the trouble (and possible expense). But if you just want a simple camera and don't want to run network cables, obviously you will want to look at other options. . Day and night vision is excellent. The field of view is close to 90 degrees, so it captures a wide area and at a very high resolution (seriously, the images look 10 times better than most bank surveillance videos! ). Installation instructions are clear and easy for your average technically capable person. The free app allows you to access the camera from your phone, but you can also just directly access the camera's ip address from any web browser anywhere, so you have lots of options for remote viewing. . In summary, this is a nice solid camera if you are looking for a wired solution that will give the best results possible.

When it comes to surveillance cameras that are meant to last the seasons you don't want to compromise on quality or reliability. This ip poe camera offers great visibility day or night an a decent software package that gets the job easily done. Wide area viewing angles means you can easily cover a driveway and adjacent sidewalks entirely. Very impressive color accuracy. Great compatibility with poe switches like the netgear jgs516pe that i'm currently using and a variety of nas devices. Also the build quality is superb. My only gripe is that i wish the mobile app software was a little more intuitive. I haven't yet figured out how to open the app and have the video feed of my cameras open by default without me having to configure them every time. I haven't had any problems with any of the cameras on my array and i trust the amcrest brand for my continuing expansions.

S. Erickson, Dudley

I normally buy grey-market hikvision cameras for my setup, but i had recently had good luck with some indoor amcrest cameras (purchased for pan and tilt), and i thought i would give this unit a try. . Packaging/build quality. The package contained the camera, a sliding shade, mounting hardware, a hex key, and a weatherproof ethernet jack cover (complete with sealing rings). The mounting hardware consists of three wood screws and three wall anchors. The camera appears to be well made, but time will tell. The ir emitters are smds, rather than old t-housing leds. There's a small door on the bottom of the camera. I didn't take it apart, but it probably is sealed with an o-ring. The camera is bigger than a small bullet camera, but more compact than i was expecting. . Setup/performance. The physical installation of the camera was straightforward. I initiated the camera's setup using the android app, but i set most of the network and image settings in the web interface. While blue iris doesn't yet have a profile for the camera, i was pleased to see that the onvif functionality supported zoom and focus control without me having to manually set anything. It's hard to say if it's the ccd or the optics, but the image is definitely a little soft. It's worth noting that the autofocus algorithm is not all that great - it has a tendency to hunt and has trouble resolving a scene when there are foreground a background items in the frame. . Special note. The main thing that i wanted this camera for was for variable focus (at the same focal length) when using the ir illumination. Most people know that their image quality drops at night, but they usually don't know why. The first reason is that the ir illumination isn't actually all that bright, so you're dealing with the low-light capabilities of the ccd, which tend to not be that great (unless you use off-camera illuminators). The second reason is that the wavelength of infrared light significantly longer than the visible light spectrum, which means that your daylight focus will not be ideal for ir focus (and vice versa). Motorized focus makes it easy to have a good image, night or day. . Conclusion. While i'd like a nicer picture, it's hard to imagine that at this camera's price point. You can buy this camera for about what you would pay for a manual varifocal grey-market hikvision - but you get a fully warrantied camera with motorized zoom and focus, instead. If cost is no object, there are better choices. However, this is a great value if you can't get the absolute best camera out there.

Q. Hayward, Sachsen says

The wide 118. 6 degree viewing angle really sold me on this as opposed to the other domes from amcrest that are 93 degrees. . The higher res is noticeable when compared to the 1080p. I know some will argue that it's not that big of a difference, and while that is true when looking at the numbers, the picture quality is really great, and the higher res is super necessary with the wider viewing angle. . Something that no one mentions! . If you get a camera with a wider viewing angle, you should absolutely get a higher resolution model. This will allow you to crop in and still get a very respectable resolution image, which if you need a good quality picture cropped in (such as a license plate of a car in the street, speaking from experience unfortunately) is vitally important. For some number justification, see below :-):. By choosing these cameras (118. 6 degrees fov(field of view) and 2688x1520 resolution) over the lower 1080p model (93 degree fov and 1960x1080 resolution), i got a 22% increase in my fov (1 - (93/118. 6)) and a 27% increase in resolution (1-(1960/2688)). All that equates to is that i get a wider fov and even if i want to zoom in to see the same effective fov as the 1080 model, my resolution at that "zoom" will still be higher.

I. Carolyn, Western Australia

Amcrest products are easily accessed via their app for android. They also have a nvr software package that can be downloaded to use on a windows computer. Both of these things are value added. . The look of the camera is pretty standard, but they do provide the choice of white or black which is very nice. The mounting screw are provided along with a stencile to help you align the installation location. . This camera is slightly wider angle than most, which in my applications is a positive. The edges of the picture are slightly distorted, but this is the property of the lens, not a defect. In my opinion the night vision, clarity and color picture produced by this camera are excellent at this price point.

E. Rhonda, Tameside says

I have two of these cameras installed at a remote off the grid location and they work well for remote monitoring of water tank levels and intrusion detection. If you thought about paying thousands of dollars for tank level alarms, just set up a simple float level and camera and check it twice a day. . If you are using linux, the live streaming video direct from camera won't work, because of a video licensing issue (this is common for all the inexpensive cameras), but it works fine from mac. The software in the cameras is not the greatest and mostly works, however, the best way to use these cameras is via the amcrest cloud service. That's what these cameras are really designed for and it's obvious the company spent most development resources on the cloud. You get one camera, with limited cloud data storage for free, additional cameras will trigger monthly fees, which don't seem unreasonable for what they are doing. These cameras are a lot cheaper and more reliable than hiring someone to drive around a property, it will definitely pay for itself in better security and labor savings. . Pro tip: to connect to the cloud, if the camera is connected to the internet, the first two hours, it will "phone home". You have a two hour window from power up to add the camera to your cloud account. If you miss that, power down the camera and restart it, it will "phone home" and you can add it from your phone or desktop amcrest cloud site for the next two hours.

R. Meyer, Missouri says

I've been testing this camera with a "amcrest nv2108e 8-channel poe nvr" to see what the capabilities are. So far, it's been great. The nvr is a bit wonky, but this camera works perfectly. Literally plug it in to the nvr and it magically shows up. No configurations needed. You will spend significantly more time mounting the camera and running the ethernet than getting it configured and set up. . I have also ordered the 2mp version of this camera and i am waiting for it to be delivered. Once i get the 2mp version in, i'll add a comparison to this review. . But, this camera seems to be great. The quality is outstanding and the night vision mode works really, really well. I haven't tested it fully at night yet, but during the day it is more than capable of capturing enough detail to identify people and read license plates within 50 - 100 ft. You could probably see details even father, but my front porch has a relatively short sight distance. . Depending on how the 2mp cameras compare, i will almost definitely buy more of these cameras. . One last note, the cameras seem to use approximately 500 mb / hour / megapixel. In other words, this 4 mp camera will use about 2 gb of data per hour when recording full time. If you set the camera to 'motion' it will probably use a lot less data depending on how much motion the camera sees. Obviously very high traffic areas are going to record non-stop.

This is a a great camera. My husband and i wanted this outdoor camera for two very different things. He wanted the camera to put at our front door for security, so he could see anybody that comes to our front door. I wanted the camera because i work from home and i wanted to be able to see the kids playing outside when i was working. This camera is the perfect solution. It has a wide 83 degree viewing angle and an awesome zoom. We were able to set the camera up at the perfect angle. My husband can see everyone that comes to door and i can see the kids playing and riding their bikes. The angle is so bug we can even see the other side of the street as well as people walking up to the door. . The picture is very clear. It is hd quality. I use it with my blue iris app. It records so i can see all the activity that the camera has seen. This is perfect because i am not going to sit there and watch the camera all the time. Playback is very important. The fact that the video can stream directly to my phone is so convenient. When i am working, i have my phone sitting right in front of me and i can see everything the kids are doing. . Another great feature that my husband loves is that you can set up the camera to send you motion alerts when you are away. When we leave the house, my husband turns this on. If the camera detects motion it sends an alert to his phone. We know exactly who is coming to the door and if we get any packages. The peace of mind is wonderful. The camera also comes with a full 1-year us warranty and lifetime support provided directly from amcrest. My husband is very handy and knows how to do most things, but knowing there is support if we had issues makes the purchase even more worth it. . Overall, this is an excellent camera. My husband wants to get more for other doors on our house. I totally agree. I want to see the kids playing in the backyard too. I bought this item at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. . Stay in touch with intelligent motion alerts, email alerts/snapshots as well as mobile and web apps (safari, firefox, ie supported - chrome supported on amcrest cloud). All cameras ce and fcc certified with ul compliant. Full 1-year us warranty and lifetime support provided directly from amcrest.

A. McCarthy, Picardie says

Very easy to install. Plugged right into the amcrest poe nvr and was transmitting a crystal clear picture. I used a 1" hole saw to drill the hole for the ethernet cable and then used the supplied hardware to mount the camera on the roof eave. . Comes with a watertight connector for the ethernet cable however the the cable goes up the joint, through the mount and out the center. It is well protected from the elements. You can run the cable outside the mount using the channel cast into the mount. . The sun shield is pretty useless as it only has about 1/2" total movement, so it's really just there for looks. . The picture is very clear. 4mp is double that of 1080p. 30 fps. At full transmission, it will stream about 10 mbps but there is a substream that will stream at a more reasonable 300 kbps.

amcrest prohd outdoor 4 megapixel poe bullet ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 4mp (2688 tvl), ip4m-1026e (white). . Just installed two of these and once you get the poe switch and internet connections wired up the installs themselves are pretty simple. There's no visible wires and the units are easy to position so you get the exact view. Scan the qr code and the app does the rest. Lots of configuration settings to tweak things exactly as you like. The email alerts are really nice and it records to my ftp server so no need to pay for their cloud storage option. If you know how to setup a ftp server i highly recommend going this route. . In less than 48 hours i caught the piss bandits that have taken our back alley and fence as a urinal. The high res video and pictures show the license plate and offenders so the police can go pay them a visit. Some of the best money i've spent. . Highly recommend these cameras.

amcrest hits the perfect spot for me. First, quality is very good day and night. Second, is price of course. There is a balance for price and what you receive. Amcrest imo is the best bang for the buck. I have worked with support, they do seem to care and helped me with quickly. They do have a number to call in. To me, that is very important. Ok, i'm a geek a little bit. I have the online store show, they give you only one free camera to look at. Then you half to pay to see the rest. I have 3 amcrest ip cameras. So i'm paying 18 bucks a month too have a cloud dvr. Way to expensive. So my price for quality stuff is out the window. So amcrest one start for that issue. I feel trapped because it is so cool at night to say alexa show me the driveway while in bed. Boom you see your driveway. Pretty cool. So i have a love hate with amcrest. More love tho. :). . I'm going to add a video to this review deal. So you can see the quilty of the cloud dvr on a 3mp amcrest camer. I'm not happy with this tow truck driver. He dragged prius out with the rear tires dragging. Looks like someone did a burnout on my driveway. Rrrr. . This is just my imo, so no hating. . Fyr, i want to be up front. I"m told, i'm getting 3 dollars per online store for doing this review and i just had downed a cold beer .

The camera itself is wonderful. Picture without the dome installed is dazzling on my system, as are daylight pictures with the dome on. However i knocked off a star because there is a lot of internal ir light reflection inside the dome which shows up as light streaks in night views. I partially fixed it by pulling the rubber "boot" off of the lens and massaging it so it was a little thicker, then put it back on in the "portrait" position (it is a rectangle rather than square). . That made the boot fit tighter against the inside of the glass dome and block most of the ir light reflection. Better, but it didn't totally eliminate the problem. I will probably do more to the boot in the future such as add a rubber o ring behind it to make it push tighter against the glass for a better seal, but this seems a qa, design, or parts issue with the rubber boot. It is just too thin for this application. First real, albeit minor, problem i've had with any of the 12 amcrest cameras i have bought and installed in the neighbor's system and mine. . I have two other older amcrest 3mp dome cameras that are a bit smaller and don't have this problem, but both of the two 4mp cameras i bought of this model have the reflection problem. . Otherwise, i am very pleased with amcrest cameras, their nvr and poe switches.

I am a qualified it professional and strongly disagree with the other comment on this camera. This thing is awesome and worth every penny. The clarity with 4mp is spectacular and has a wide resolution with great coverage. Worth the money, you won't be disappointed. I wish they made a wireless version!

. Lindsey, North Dakota

Great ip camera. I use it with blue iris. You can use the supplied software including the amcrest cloud. The video clarity is great and smooth. This is a poe camera, meaning it requires a separate power source that is not included. It uses some of the wires in the ethernet cable to get power for the camera, therefore, you need a poe injector. You need to have the ability to make your own ethernet cable if you want the ethernet connections to be water tight. It comes with the fittings necessary to do this, but the rj45 end cannot be installed on the end of the wire yet. The only dislike i have is that it has a separate plug to attach power to that is left exposed. I assumed there would be a rain cap or something, but there isn't. I had to tape it up to prevent water from getting into the connector.

Z. Hurst, Languedoc-Roussillon says

Have eight other ip cameras, seven poe, one dc powered. All axis cameras. Aside from the axis p-series camera (that cost almost $1k three years ago), this camera outperforms them all. Now, it is amazing how much cmos imagers have improved over the past few years, however this 4mp camera at $100 is on par with current axis cameras three times the cost. Very easy to setup the camera using an amcrest nvr, using the code scan on the camera label via the mobile app. Absolutely will purchase more amcrest cameras. Also impressed with the ir range, able to light up my entire front yard (60 x 50 )

O. Erin, Nottingham

These new 4mp prohds are really nice. I've been using amcrest cameras for the last couple of years and they are all really nice. The user interface for the old foscam cameras was always so clunky, but the interface for these new foscam cameras is really, really nice. These cameras are really easy to configure and they support chrome! the old activex controls for viewing live video just aren't useful when 90% of the world is using chrome these days. I can verify that the chrome plugin works great on these cameras! well done amcrest on another great camera! . . One final note. There are a couple of negative reviews on the "black" version of this camera. One review talked about camera reboots. I had this happen on an older model amcrest camera early last year and the amcrest support team was awesome and replaced the bad camera promptly. Turns out, it wasn't even their problem! i was using an aftermarket poe injector that was flaky. After amcrest changed out my camera and i still had the issue, i switched out the injector and all the problems went away! flaky power converters can definitely cause regular crashes! the other review about the cameras being counterfeit really seems like someone just trying to trash amcrest. These are really great cameras folks! you can't beat the quality for the price!

Already having a different brand of an ip camera, i decided to buy the amcrest ip4m-1055e mainly because the other camera stopped giving me push notifications on my phone. Right after i received the amcrest dome camera i connected it to my network thru a tp-link poe injector and it started to work immediately. It asked me to change the default password, which i did. Being a curious person, i started to play with the settings of the camera menu until i screwed up something (had no idea which one of the settings) and i wasn't able to connect to the camera anymore, using the amcrest view pro phone app. Frustrations, argghh. And then i decided to call amcrest customer service. The customer service guy, jay mills, was very friendly and courteous and he helped me with the menu settings. I got camera access on my phone, back again, in no time. He told me that i unchecked the "substream" box in the menu and that's why the phone app stopped working. Now a few words about the quality of the product. The dome itself is very sturdy, made of metal, and you can use it with either a poe injector or a separate power adapter (not included in the box). The day image is great and, as expected, you get a little lower quality for night viewing. I just got the camera a few days ago and for now i don't have a very long experience with it, but it looks very promising. One of my friends recommended me this brand because they have an amcrest camera and they are very happy with theirs. I recommend this brand, too. I purchased mine from firstvision technologies.

Overall i am very happy with the camera. I have had one running for about a week with no issues, and i am about to install 7 more. The one big issue is with the description on online store as well as the manufactures web site. They say it has a 92 degree viewing angle, but the packaging says its 84 degrees.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

M. Anonymous, Vermont says

Worked for one week and then the feed went gray. Tried many different things to get it back to 100% and finally had to do a factory reset but the picture was still not crisp like it was when i first hooked it up. Currently have an rma request in with amcrest. My other three amcrest cameras i have are still running fine since installation using blue iris and windows 10 on a vm. I will update if and when i get my rma processed.

Good camera with very nice image. Only issue i have is the the ftp and nas storage options are limited and don't work as expected.

X. Alice, Luton says

Not bad. Picture quality decent daytime, fair at night. Two main problems are the proprietary video format and the directory structure the pics/video get saved into by default by the camera software. The videos can be view and/or converted to a standard format with a free app, but why should we have to do that? the directory structure, in my opinion, is just a nightmare. I use my cameras primarily in motion detect mode. In order to see if there has been any pics saved (or saved with images of interest rather than bugs congregating on the leds, or spiders spinning webs in front of the leds) i have to step though many, many sub directories. The are first saved to your selected dir, then to a subdirectory with the camera name, then to a subdirectory with the date, then to a subdirectory labeled "001", then to a subdirectory labeled "jpg", then to a subdirectory with the hour of the day, then to a subdirectory with the minute of the hour . And you finally get to view the images labeled with the second followed by nonsense characters of the format: 09 m 0 0 0 . Jpg. . Perhaps that ill conceived directory structure has some use for some particular software of the manufacturer, but everyone else in the world will likely just get very irritated very quickly. I did, and nearly sent the camera back. However, i have a web page i keep up and routinely write perl scripts to manage and update it, so i purposed one of the scripts to run on a cron and rip out all of the pics, rename them with the date and time, and dump them all into one directory. Then it is a simple matter to scroll down to the time of interest or delete days, weeks, or months of pics, all from one location. . If i find an update to change the directory structure, the pic names and the video format (all software issues) i'll change this to 5 stars :). . Bob

It's ok, the glass cover creates reflection of its own and distorts the image

New:. . My use case: 4 cameras connected to a local recording device (nvr) for exterior home surveillance. The nvr must allow me to access video from an app or web interface remotely. . The hardware is fine, but the software is incredibly janky. For instance, if you need the camera to point parallel to the wall it's mounted on, you need to rotate is so that the original up orientation of the lens is now left or right. Fair enough, right? you'd expect to be able to rotate the video by pointing your browser at the camera's ip address or using the nvr's interface. Well, if you use the amcrest nvr software (whether it's with a monitor attached directly to the nvr or through a chrome plugin pointed at the nvr's local ip or ddns address) and try to rotate the image, when you refresh the rotation setting just jumps from 90 or 270 degrees back to 0 or 180 with no error message. I figured that some error message was getting swallowed, so i removed the cameras from the nvr, plugged them into an old poe switch, pointed my browser at the cameras' ips, and tried to rotate them there. I got the error message "operation not supported at this resolution" (lightly paraphrased). Naturally, i thought i should lower the resolution and try again. Even at vga (640 by 480), the "operation was not supported at this resolution. " hm. . I would have updated the cameras' firmware and tried again, but the last time i updated the firmware directly from the cameras' browser pages, three of my four cameras ended up with purple lines and green flickering in the images. I tried updating the camera firmware from the nvr this time, and luckily the image stayed correct and rotation was magically enabled. I did not get any of these insights from documentation, forums, or customer support; i had to spend hours shotgun debugging. I can't give the product 1 star, since it works, but they don't exactly have a-team software engineers over at amcrest. If you're uncomfortable with it or software engineering stuff, you will either spent more time than i did debugging your setup or you'll get frustrated and give up. . Old:. . Hi, i have 4 amcrest bullet poe cameras (ip4m-1025e) connected to an amcrest poe nvr (nv4108e). When i initially set it all up, everything worked great. I managed to get motion detection, emails, and remote access all working, too. However, after upgrading the cameras' firmware and changing their passwords from "admin" to something more secure, three of the cameras started to show a grainy, flickering green image. The image is completely unusable. One is still fine like it was out of the box. See screenshot :-(. . I couldn't access the portal for the ip cameras when they were connected to the nvr, so i disconnected them, attached them to my poe switch (netgear gs510tlp), found their ips on the lan, accessed them in-browser, changed passwords, then disconnected them from the switch and reattached them to the nvr. That's when the green flickering started. Please help!

Derated to 1 star - lack of user manual, amcrest doesn't even have one! they have no idea what the cables do that are attached to this camera and i wasted hours to only find out, on my own, that i can run a powered mic directly to the audio input and get audio on each channel i added a mic. This was incredibly frustrating. He was the email from amcrest:. . "currently, we don't have an exact user manual for ip4m-1028e. We will update that on our website very soon. Also we are waiting for more specifications about this camera. ". . What? ! ? ! ? ! ? ! here mr. Mike, keys to your new car but we can't tell you how to use it. We wanted to release it to make money because we need that money to make the manuals. If you are unsure on how to start it, please come back and check our website later. . So, the camera seems nice. I have not used others to compare, though i had to adjust image settings as it did not look as clear as i hoped. . I was disappointed this had no mic for audio. It does have a pigtail for audio in, out, power and alarms. The documentation was horrible to tell me what this was, as was tech support . I basically had to figure it out myself as software revs did not match instruction revs on setup. I was on the phone for 30+ minutes for another camera when i had to stumble through that on my own too. I was told audio did not work in this firmware, i needed to check back for updates. . The us tech support is a joke too. I have found it difficult to understand them. . Long story short, i was able to add a mic to all these channels through the audio in and powering externally. It would be real nice if there was a 12v power output in the pigtail for a mic. . Time will tell if it is reliable.

R. Theresa, Middlesbrough says

For the m a hardware perspective, amcrest cameras themselves are a great value for the money. Where amcrest fails is in their tech supports ability to release timely firmware fixes for their cameras. On the current firmware for this camera, if you are using an ftp server to store snapshots, the camera will randomly delete the files. Tech support acknowledged this issue, but after months has not released a fix. Other camera models firmware contain the same bug. Until amcrest can get their support act together, i cannot recommend their cameras.

B. Juliana, Quebec

Painful customer service! plugin for chrome browser doesn't work.

W. Alba, New South Wales says

The camera would get 5 starts except for it's advertised as being able to encode in h. 265. Although it will encode, the encoding is basically useless as amcrest admitted to having a bug in their code which breaks your ability to download the video in any way. They are advertising and selling a product that does not perform as expected. In my support case with them they made it clear their developers have no intent in fixing the problem. Beware

O. Valencia, East Sussex

Description says camera has a slot for sd card, but it does not. Or, at least the one i received did not. I questioned the sales support person and they told me there is a screwed on cover on the bottom of camera, but the one i have does not have that cover.

Q. Anderson, West Virginia says

Great daytime performance, but not usable at night. The leds reflect back into the lense which renders the camera useless. I have a total of three of these cameras and two out of three have this problem.

U. Arnett, Lincolnshire

So, i got 8 of these. Installation, getting them on-line and image quality is all good. However, the problems start when you want to start working with motion detection. When you log in directly to the camera you will see a plethora of settings and options, including for motion detection. Especially, the region settings look promising, until you discover that each time you spent an hour or so to fill in the grid with different colors, afterwards everything has been reset again. Rumor has it that as soon as you add a camera to amcrest cloud, the cloud settings, which only cover one setting for the entire grid. Overrule all the detail settings you put in when logging in to the camera directly. To make a long story short, you cannot have proper motion detection and use cloud. Then, you might think that a firmware upgrade might fix the problem, except that this model is unknown on amcrest support. And finally, like with motion detection, stream settings, e. G. 1520p get overruled as well periodically with 1020p. All of a sudden you notice you just lost the wide angle. Amcrest hardware is good, but the way the software works is really annoying. A shame they did not get this right. Always let the cameras prevail that were last updated. So difficult?

N. Perez, New Mexico says

Decided to get some security cameras. Was looking at amcrest and landed on this camera. I like the size, but the image quality is a tad soft for a 4mp camera. Compared to one of their other bullet camera even though that is 5mp the difference is very noticeable. This camera is darker and softer showing less details. This one will be going back and i may need to try their 4k camera or another brand.

* update 2/28/2018*. . The camera has died after about a month of having it inside my garage waiting to mount it. It has the ir lights on in the dark but no network traffic. I've switched poe injectors and just get a couple flickers of the network lights on the switch then the switch port goes dark. I've requested an rma and amcrest sent me a link to a site to pay $15 for a shipping label. I have a problem paying to ship something back after it goes bad in a month and under warranty. I considered it for a minute until i read the reviews for the return. All 5 stars but many of them indicating they haven't received their product back after spending the money and shipping it in. It's suspicious that even the bad comments are ranked 5 stars. I'll be keeping my $15 dollars and the camera can be a dummy camera and hopefully be useful as a deterrent. I've replied to the email asking for a free shipping label several times but that has been ignored. What a shame. It was a nice camera. I won't be doing business with amcrest again. . The good:. The picture quality is outstanding in day and on ir. I use it with blue iris and it worked fine. Just plug it in and get an ip, look up on my dhcp table for the mac set it to reserved, note the ip and go to the cam's website to set up the rest. The metal housing and mount look well made and durable. The post will ratchet around the base so you can push left or right while tilting it down. . The bad:. This is my second amcrest camera. The first one is a 1080 ptz indoor camera. I also have a foscam ptz. I am disappointed to see that i when i click "check for update" in the camera's web page of this new camera, it takes me to an external website where i have to register with my email address to be put on a list to get notifications for firmware updates. My older amcrest ptz does it the right way and looks from the management site itself and loads updated firmware if available. Now, like the foscam i am directed to a site to register for updates. I can download manually from the amcrest site if i select my model from a very long drop down list. What a step backwards in time. Why not let your device check and download itself. Why make me be the middle man and have to go looking. Are we back in 1999? this is the reason i'm going away from foscam. Maybe it's just me and i'm missing something. . Even with that annoyance of that, i'd buy this again in a heartbeat. I will be buying more of them but just not bothering to update the firmware. I turn external routing off on these once set up so i'm not worried about out of date firmware. Don't forget the poe injector like some folks.

I will not buy these cameras. . They look good for few days. They freeze and they stay black and white. . I am not happy at all with this product. I purchased total of 12 cameras for 2 houses . . I no i am not happy and i will not suggest it to my friends! period! there are a lot of better cameras for the money you spend on these cameras. . You can't see license plates of vehicle more then 15-20 ft away. Also my vehicle is only 5 ft away from camera and can't pick up the license plate. . As you see in pictures. The thief took my stuff also i couldn't get his plate from my other cameras. . During the day they are nice and clear up to 10 - 15 ft you can see license plates. Then is blurry. . You judge by seeing the pictures!

E. Yvette, Colorado

I have had this camera operating for about a year now. When it works it is great, however, a horrible bug in the software resets your video settings at random intervals. This means that for a period of time i will have really great video / picture quality and then randomly it will reset to a default low resolution. I have not been able to find a fix and amcrest has shown no interest in correcting the problem. A shame, i will be expanding my camera network with a different manufacturer.

I. Shirley, Merton says

No, it is not compatible with qnap as stated.

F. Carmen, Kentucky

So far nice camera, i have it in testing mode, i haven't installed in a new permanent location yet. Software is a little weird, but i am new to amcrest. . I have worked with the camera now for a few weeks. From about 40 ft away, it won't read a license plate number set to 2688x1520, this is the main reason for buying the camera. I would not recommend. . The seller was great and delivered on-time.

G. Campbell, Limousin says

I've got this hooked up to a synology nas using their surveillance station product. This camera works well for this purpose. So far no firmware updates have been pushed for this unit. . Even though all "cloud" features are disabled, the camera is constantly trying to reach out to amcrest's cloud servers. I have no idea why. I finally blocked it from accessing the internet at my firewall. I'm concerned that this could be a backdoor, allowing amcrest, or whoever hijacks amcrest's domains, to gain access to my network. Amcrest's support forums don't really explain what's going on.

Z. Erin, Bremen

Counterfeit camera, unable to connect to synology nas. Not even able to configure the camera locally via the amcrest ip config app. All my other amcrest cameras are working great.

Y. Marguerite, Montana says

I have two overlapping gripes for the two amcrest cameras i've purchased. I had (and returned) an ip4m-1025e, and currently am working with an ip3m-941b. . What both cameras have in common is customer support that is very talented at not answering questions, not reading emails they respond to, offering useless and random information - and then putting the ball back in your court - and thus delaying any useful interaction indefinitely. None of my questions were answered, and they asked me to provide information that was already provided repeatedly. Its clear they did not read the emails, they simply respond with random questions and suggestions. . The ip4m-1025e seemed to have a serious bug. The camera is configured via its internal web server, where the user simply points their browser at the camera ip address and would see a configuration web page for the camera. What i found is that this 4mp camera could only be configured for 2mp, anything else and the configuration would just pop back to the 2mp when refreshed. I attempted to resolve any misunderstanding i might have with amcrest customer service, but i just couldn't get them to focus on my question long enough to suggest any remedy. . The ip3m-941b seems to behave well. I haven't fully integrated it into a useful surveillance system yet, but i also haven't hit roadblocks. . One of my goals, challenges, and restrictions was to build up a linux based nvr system. I prefer to avoid windows. To do this generally you need a camera(s) that can be configured with chrome, firefox, or whatever browser from linux. Not so easy as many cameras require browser plugins that just don't support linux. The amcrest chrome plugin does give configuration access to the cameras i have worked with, and apparently it works - or that is it works on the ip3m-941b anyway. . The next challenge is the nvr part, and i tried zoneminder, and a handful of others, and finally landed on blue iris. The key here is support for onvif protocol. Perhaps most or all nvr software that supports onvif would support these cameras. The cameras also support cgi interfaces, and rtsp urls, and i tried to use those pragmatically with opencv with python, but apprently opencv has a bug that limits rtsp to tcp whereas the option to use with udp would be more inter-operable. Zoneminder seems to be from a forgotten era, before onvif was a useful standard. . Blue iris of course is windows software so your mileage may vary under linux. That said i installed it under wine (i. E. Winehq), and specifically codeweaver crossover's version of wine, and so far it seems to work fine. I'm optimistic i won't run into a gotcha as my integration proceeds. . I'm not done setting up my surveillance system, but i wanted to give everyone a heads up about the challenges they are likely to face with amcrest support. Whether you need their support may well depend on the nvr you purchase and how many unanswered questions you're left with. But if you do have questions, you might have a more productive conversation with a brick wall.

T. Mahood, Essex

Pretty bummed about this one. I have a bunch of ip4m-1025e and ptz inside cams and they are great - but i want something with a motorized zoom. First, as my picture depicts - there is an issue with this camera and it appears to not be at all related to software - it is the same thing in its own web interface as in blue iris. I tried to find a firmware update for it, but amcrest doesn't even have any support information for this device. Gotta send it back and i'm concerned about trying to do another one.

S. Susan, Swindon says

Camera is good but both apps are terrible.

. Mays, Medway

If you are a person looking to work with the technical side of an ip camera. Avoid this one. . The night-time image quality is pretty bad. Extremely grainy. Can't make out any features. The day-time pictures are pretty decent, but motion can cause feature-blurring even if someone is walking slowly. . If you want to store the video on your own, prepare to get angry. The video is stored in a . Dav proprietary format and can only be played by the amcrest viewer. Worthless. . If you are concerned about your privacy and don't really want amcrest to have all of your information, prepare to be disturbed. By default they open up the ports on your router and pass along your information to their "cloud" service. If this is what you are looking for, then it might be fine with you. I felt like i was like jumping through hoops to get their cloud service to stop working with my camera. I bought hardware, that's what i wanted. . Another note about the cloud service is that it will default your stream to a level lower than the highest quality. No matter what you do, if you use their cloud service you will never be able to use the full display/recording capabilities of this camera. . If you are a tinkerer like me and want to have a piece of equipment that is flexible, this is not for you. . If you just want a cheaper camera to throw on the side of your house and don't mind using the cloud service or getting resolutions below the advertised maximum, then this seriously might work for you. . If you are looking for the poe specs for this device, they are available in the technical documentation on the amcrest site. If you want to push power to more than one camera, buying individual injectors can get fairly pricey (and messy to look at). I ended up getting the "ws-gpoe-6-48v60w gigabit passive poe 6 port power over ethernet injector for 802. 3af devices, with 48 volt 60 watt power supply, add poe to any switch" here on online store and have been very happy with this injector. . Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Camera has what look like ir reflections from the anti vandal dome. Support was great until they deemed my camera defective. Now i'm waiting on their rma dept. To contact me 6 days since they tossed it over to them with out any contact . Will be returning if i don't here soon. . App best i have played with. . I have attached photo with day/night mode on auto and at night at the worst of it. Also of image at night anti vandal dome not installed and installed. Image crystal clear with just using my outside lights.

K. Noguera, Champagne-Ardenne says

I love my amcrest ptz 1080p camera so i thought i would give this a try. I'm a blue iris user so i can't comment on the manufactures app. This camera preformed well, when connected to my cisco 3750 poe switch it jumped on the vlan assigned and grabbed the ip i had reserved in dhcp for the mac (found by identifying on the switch) it would have been nice to have the mac somewhere on the camera or attached to the box it came with but no big deal as not many cameras i have tested come with that information. So you ask, whats wrong with it? well nothing really except that it doesn't stack up to the direct competition. When tested side by side with a reolink 410 the reolink won in the following categories : night vision distance, picture quality in night vision mode, and picture quality in daylight mode. The quality was not poor from the amcrest camera but the reolink 410 was significantly better and the price of $35 less made it a clear winner in my house. Let me end with this. I am not paid by any company to write reviews. I spent my hard earned money to purchase and test these cameras. My opinions are just that. I have no scientific proof that one camera is better than the other its just my opinion as to image quality.
