Review for prohd video security dvr digital

Price was $29.99 - $2,545.40. I am writing this review to dispel the notion that this system is too complex to set up. I actually purchased this back in march and i just got around to setting it up yesterday. I simply pulled everything out of the box, connected the power supply to the dvr and to the cameras, connected the cameras to the dvr, connected the dvr to my router (internet) with cat5 cable, and i connected the dvr to a computer monitor. The first thing i noticed was a helpful start up 'wizard' that automatically appeared on the monitor. That process took about 5 minutes to complete. Then i noticed that the cameras were all showing on the monitor. (i did this in my living room. ) then i downloaded the amcrest view pro apps on my smart phone and ipad. I clicked on "add a device", and then 'p2p'. It asked for my amcrest password (that i set up on the wizard), and then it asked me to scan (using the app) the qr code that is on a sticker on top of the dvr. All of a sudden i could see what the cameras were looking at on my devices (phone and ipad). It was that easy. The whole thing took 15 minutes. My initial impression is that this is a quality system with a lot of complex capabilities. Now that i have everything working i'm going to look at the manual (which i downloaded on my ipad because the little manual that came with the system was difficult to read) and learn all of the complexities. Of course i also have to hang the cameras in their permanent location. The cooling fan in the dvr is a little loud (and i did purchase the recommended replacement fan), but i'm going to install this system in an upstairs closet so i don't think it will matter. I'll connect the system to the internet using a wifi 'bridge' or 'extender'. I'll update this review once i've installed the cameras in their permanent locations (i'll use my phone or ipad to 'sight' them in), but i'm thinking that this is going to be an awesome surveillance system, and i'm excited to permanently install it. Now i wish i hadn't procrastinated so long. I guess i had been intimidated by all of the reviews that to me implied that you had to be a computer engineer to get the thing up and running. Trust me, if i can do it, you can too.

Introduction

Received my amcrest camera system today, and just finished a test hookup and did the initial dvr setup. . Setup was intuitive, all cameras are working perfectly, and lightsensor/night leds turn on as they should. . Will update review when i get system mounted properly and start using it, but for now it is a 5/5 for me :d. . Followup:. . So i finally got all the cables routed in the attic, and 3 out of 4 cameras installed (the fourth is going where there is a hornets nest at the moment. ). . So far this system beats every surveillance ive encountered in my many years as a store employee, the pc based ones have been slow and resource hungry, this just works. Boots straigt to cam view no trouble. . Setup was a breeze. Followed the initial setup first time and checked 'do not show' second time as all settings are available whenever you want. . First thing i tried after hookup was the lan or wan connection through browser which also worked immediately. But after toying with the remote web access settings, namely changing port from 80 to xxxxx i could not get in via lan afterwards. Found out i had to add the new port number to lan ip too, so 192. 168. 1. 64:xxxxx and then it connected again like a charm. . Playback directly on dvr is flawless, but when playing back on web interface i have not found out how to move cursor on all 4 cams at the same time, each cam has its own slider and they get out of sync. Probably just a user error ; ). . I spend alot of time in my basement where both computer room and home theater is located, and look forward to having that extra watch over what happens outside meanwhile. Im also having 3 weeks vacation in a few weeks, and it will be liberating to not run to the window to look for the dhl van every 15 minutes :). . This sytem comes highly recommended, (only downside is that i wish they had offered 8 ch dvr with only 4 cams so that i could expand in the future as i dont need 8 cameras, and that bundle was almost 2x the price :( ) The Best prohd video security dvr digital ( Jul 2019 ) | Foscam Digital Technologies Ll-Surveilance Systems Review Benefit Amcrest ProHD 1080P 16CH Video Security DVR Digital Recorder, 16-Channel 1080P @ 30fps, HD Analog, Hard Drive & Cameras NOT Included, Remote Smartphone Access (AMDV108016) … Uncompressed, latency free, point-to-point raw data hd megapixel video transmission up to 1920 x 1080p 30fps.. PROS
  • We've been experiencing car break-ins. Vandalism. Things like that in the neighborhood so we decided we needed a security system. I bought this system not on online store but at micro center where it was $200 with a 1 tb drive. I'd give them 3 stars for the experience. Installation took pretty much 2 days to mount the cameras, run the cables and set up the software. I'm watching it on another monitor as i write this. I'm happy with it. Daylight images are impressive - night vision is pretty good although i can't recognize faces until they're within +- 30 feet and into some light. Here are some things i discovered in this process:. Shopping for a camera system is difficult at best. None seemed to be the one. All have plus and minus - nobody likes their software. I settled on amcrest because the cameras are rated for lower temperatures than the others in this price range and the reviews were no better or worse than competing brands. I've come to believe they're all just rebranded chinese hardware anyway. I bought a 4 camera system and it covers my front exterior but i see myself expanding to 8 channels in the not too distant future. Installation of the hardware was about what you'd expect. Lots of drilling and swearing. Here's a tip: the kit came with 2 60' and 2 100' cables . If your cable runs are longer than 60 feet but a 100 foot cable would do it - get another 100 foot cable. I used the 60's thinking i could just extend the additional 20 or so feet i needed. You can't unless you roll you own. Cables are 50 or 60 feet minimum. Adding 50' to a 60' to gain the 20 i needed resulted in noticeable signal degradation. The dvr had software installed and came with a cd- just in case i guess. It's working but things aren't explained well at all. The manual steps you through set-up advising you that "when you're satisfied with the settings click next" but they don't provide the information you need to know if you're happy with the settings. What do these things mean? what should i do to get it to do this or that specifically? not intuitive. In order to monitor on a pc you have to install ie. Neither firefox nor chrome will work with the software. You can't get the plugins to load. Only ie. Go figure. Here the steps are clear and there are videos on you tube. You do need to get into your router programming. Getting it to forward to an android phone was the easiest thing of all. . So overall - it works - it records - i have no idea how to get it to do motion detection but i'm going to work at it. Meanwhile it's on continuous record which is okay for now. So considering that all the systems available seem to be pretty much the same. All i can say is this one does what they say it should. So far. Oh - and i should have gone with the 8 channel dvr.
  • This (1080p tribrid hdcvi 8ch 3tb dvr) is a decent home security system. The quality of the cameras is outstanding. The ease of use and set-up of the dvr is perfect. The hardest part to setting this system up is running the cables and deciding where to locate the cameras. The app to view the cameras remotely has worked seamlessly for me. All in all i am very happy with this system. There is one flaw with the dvr that drives me crazy: it is loud! the fan on this bad boy could get a small cessna off the ground. I have the unit in a media closet and you can clearly hear the hum of the fan (especially at night) through the closet door. I am contemplating relocating the system to a closet in the garage. If it weren't so loud i would give this system 5 stars across the board. If you plan to have the dvr in an open area in your living space, i would move along. The noise this machine puts out would be way too distracting. . Update:. . I replaced the two internal fans that come with the dvr with these noctua units: . . . Wow! what a difference. I can leave my unit where i originally intended and it is now whisper quiet. There is a youtube video that shows you exactly how to replace: . Watch the video and you will see how easy it is to replace the fans. Had amcrest used these fans instead of the crap that came with it the system would be just perfect. Even though i incurred a small cost and additional effort to get this system to ideal, it was worth it. Everything about the security system is perfect. Save for the fans. Now that i have cured that. I am totally satisfied. Hope this helps.
CONS
  • I had the 720p dvr and cameras and was happy with the resolution, but wanted to upgrade to the 1080p dvr and 1080p dome cameras, so i spent the extra money to upgrade. Sadly there is absolutely no difference in quality between the two. Unless the dome cameras / dvr i have are labeled and shipped incorrectly. I spent a lot of time swapping out the cameras and dvr and sadly i should have stuck with what i had. . Also i can get the android app and mac app working, but i can't get the web interface working on chrome, safari, or firefox. Support was supposed to call me back today, but has not called as promised.
  • I initially had a 960h system, which i was very happy with. I decided to upgrade to the 1080p system. The upgrade took a little longer than expected, because the camera base is bigger than the 960 cameras (so i had to drill new holes), and the cable attached to the camera is slightly shorter than the old cameras. But i could reuse the old cables, which is most of the work to install. The clarity is much better on the 1080p vs the 960h. But i would not have bothered with the upgrade, as it wasn't worth the extra work and money for a whole new system. . However, my reason for the 3 star rating is the software. It is terrible! very hard to use. It's not intuitive, and the manual is virtually useless. Figuring out the playback mode is ridiculous. The entire software suite needs a major makeover. Also, with by old 960h system, the viewer on my ipad or iphone would open all cameras immediately, without fail. On the new app, (view pro), it's hit or miss whether any cameras open. Sometimes all do, sometimes some do, sometimes none open, then i have to close and reopen them. The old app was way better. . Amcrest - you need to fix this!
  • Really love the product. Would have given it 5 stars. After we had to order a hard drive separate. Which we did not know this product did not come with a hard drive. In which i specifically ordered this one because you did not need an additional hard drive. It was suppose to be included. But, once i ordered the hard drive, the product is excellent, and very easy to set up and use. But be clear. This product does not come with a hard drive. It will not work unless you order one separate, and install it after you receive it. It is really simple to install also. I'm not a tech, and it was super simple. Directions were easy to follow. Its a great buy so far.

Love the system, dvr and app. Thought it was a good value since it came with everything necessary all in one kit. Easy to operate and install (although time consuming if you do it right. I. E. Run the cables through the attic, drilling holes to run from attic to dvr. But there was an option to have them installed. ). Major con: expect to shell out (i think in total we had to pay like $75) extra money on other cables. The cables that came in the box are trash. Picture is terrible and jumpy. We bought a 4 pack of their name brand cables (for extra length, that in the end i don't even think was needed, but was a good thing we did) and those are great. Clear and stable picture quality. My husband works a lot. So big projects around the house take. A. Lot. Of. Time. "if a man says he will do something, he will do it. No need to remind him insert exaggerated amount of time . ". Hubs installed 5 cameras the first day (months ago, about a month after we got the system) only one was with the provided cables, thank goodness! but of course it's the one for the front door. So he will have to rewire that one, one day. We now have 7 of the 8 installed plus still need to rewire the one with the cheap cable (we tried all the other ones in the box and the connection with the same disappointment) and had to order another 4 pack of their brand cables. I just don't get it. It is the same company's cables but the ones provided are garbage. Still 4 stars because the system itself is awesome. But expect to pay more for their working cables.

Awesome! not sure why others would have issues or not like the app. It works great. All i had to do was scan the qr code on the setup screen with my iphone and bam i was viewing live video and have had access to all dvr functions and playback. . I would recommend a separate monitor hooked directly to the dvr for settings and setup. It comes with a usb mouse. No reason to connect to your pc or laptop. The iphone app works great. Easy to use and appears to basically have full control over all options, settings, and funsctions. . Nighttime looks great (again i got the 4mp cameras). Check out my pics. Motion detection and sensitivity is easy and straight forward. Check out amcrest youtube channel. They walk you through every setup step. . Installation would be the only real obstacle for some people. But the system is well worth the $. . I purchased a western digital 4tb hard drive and installed myself. Again, super easy. . Wife is happy. Been on me for years to get one so she can watch the cats play in the back yard :/. . We are really happy with it (for more reasons than just cat antics)! . . Check out my pics."

(0) Question: Is it normal for the fans in the hard drive to be running full time at a very loud volume?

(1) Question: What's the difference between the bullet & the dome cameras? can the dome cameras be moved around remotely, or will they follow motion?

(2) Question: Can you change the internal hd to a wd purple 6tb surveillance hard disk drive?

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

Bought this for just being a media serving drive for its 24hr usage build, its been working well for over 1. 5 years. I have had very bad experiences with getting a brand new larger drive, consolidating my media files, only to have the new drive to fail in a short time, losing media that unfortunately was not backed up yet. -Notice from D. This item came package extremely well to protect it from the rigors of shipping. The price was adequate for the quality and specifications, and shipping was pretty haste. So far it is working flawlessly. Installed in a surveillance system for 24hr recording and it plugged right up and worked immediately.

- W. AlexiaI needed to upgrade my tivo hard drive and after doing some research i decided on a survelillance drive as it is made for large video files and is made for fairly continuous operation. With 3tb of space i don't have to worry about shows being deleted. I can save all episodes of futurama and other favorites. Drive seems quiet and after a couple of months, i have had zero issues. So far so good.

I now have two of these drives, and have had zero issues with either of them. I use them in a nvr, which is what they are made for, and they do the job. My total storage is now 6tb, and that holds a lot of 1920x1080 video, i can go back weeks or months, as i have my cameras set to record motion only.

WD Purple 4TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD40PURX Old Version

This is a terrific drive. I have had great luck with wd drives and this one is no exception. I bought a mybooklive and a seagate black armor at the same time a few years ago. The seagate has been replaced twice under warranty and finally died out of warranty. I bought this drive and put it in the seagate box and it works great! i use this drive in a 24/7 operation and put a small fan on the case as seagate did not do that. It stays very cool with just a 30 mm ball bearing fan. The drive is quiet and fast.

- . GuestNo issues. Comes in oem packaging. I installed this in my amcrest nv4108 1080p nvr and it fired-up immediately. No issues with system recognition and record and playback speed seems to be fine.

Works great and has an awesome price compared to other online retailers. This only comes with a 3 year warranty from wd. If you need more, get the enterprise black drives from wd. I have built a ton of storage arrays with these drives along with the reds, greens, blacks, etc. From wd.

I have purchased several of these. I have not had one fail yet. The are twice the storage i could get just a few years ago and half the price. Just remember that if you are running a 32 bit os on your dvr you can only use 2 tb of the storage space.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

The western digital purple was the. Most recommended hard drive for my zmodo nvr. Works great, no issues. Zmodo 8ch 1080p hdmi nvr with two. Zmodo 720p indoor dome cameras. Model kc-100x home security system. It did not come with a hard drive installed. So i also purchased a purple wd hdd to install. Only drawback is that it only supports zmodo &. Funlux cameras. Cameras should be ip/network-wired. Still trying to figure out how to connect my. Wireless cameras as one connected itself when. I set the system up. -Notice from K. Williams, Wiltshire

First of all, i knew from the start that i was going to buy a wd drive. Of my past 30 consumer grade hard drives, all of my wd drives lasted until i decided to take them out of service for larger drives. This compared to the two hitachi and two seagate drives that either developed bad sectors or component level failures. . It was really a toss up between wd red and wd purple for me. I wanted to try the new drive out and have been pleased thus far. One key factors in my choice to purchase this drive was that it supported tler. I don't currently have it in a raid, but i didn't want to limit myself. . Gary e peterson said it best in his wd red review explaining tler, "time limited error recovery - where the hard drive assumes it is part of an array, assumes there is redundancy, and is not afraid to quickly tell the host controller that it just can't complete the current i/o request. ". . Both wd red and purple have tler. They both have 3 year warranty. Red has a listed mtbf of 1, 000, 000 hours and purple is not listed. Purple is rated for 300, 000 load/unload cycles vs red's 600, 000 cycles. Purple edges out red in noise, 26 dba vs 28 dba while seeking. . This drive is very new to the market and my drive bay. :-) i will update my review after a while of using the hard drive.

- O. MaysBought this for a security camera system. Was probably way more storage space than i really needed for my 4 camera system, but for the $ it allows me a ton of storage space. I use the motion record setting, but i'm guessing if i recorded 24/7 it would probably save about a months worth before it started to record over itself again. Drive came packaged nicely and was what you would expect. I'm not a computer guy, but after researching what i needed to my camera system, this was affordable and plugged right in. Camera system formatted it in minutes, and it's been working flawlessly since day 1. Online store generally has this as a suggestion when you search for home security systems, and that's right where it belongs. If you need a hd for your system, i would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

You need determine your needs before you purchase a hard drive. Quite simply, they are not all the same. This is a reliable drive, and it's the one you need to purchase if you plan on recording security cameras. I've been piecing together nvrs to record uhd (4k) images from ip cameras. I had originally planned on purchasing one of those 4-8 security camera units available at some of the membership stores. The cameras wouldn't work, but i curious to know what hds were used by these companies. When i opened up the nvr i immediately saw a western digital purple drive. . The purple drive is rated for continuous recording, with minimum chance of failure, in a security system setup. If you check the western digital site you can see which drives are best for which use. . I've been pleased with the wd purple drive, it has a large capacity, and it has the ability to continuously write information from many cameras simultaneously. I would recommend this wd purple drive to others. . I hope you find this review helpful.

WD Purple 4TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD40PURZ

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

I hooked this up to a q-see dvr and it formatted and hooked up smoothly. I am glad i checked beforehand with q-see. You must use a different hard drive for video installations. Wd is purple in my case. Their customer service answered my very quickly and were helpful. -Notice from H. Russell, Iowa

Been running 3 months now and no problems. I'm glad i spent the few extra bucks and went with the purple one because i was told by my it guy that the purple wd hard drives are intended for security camera hard drives, since they run 24/7. Great purchase, so far.

- B. RoseSwapped out my 500 gb green drive with this drive. Simple process and tivo immediately recognized the new drive. Now have 476 hours of hd storage capacity with the new 3tb drive. Can't comment on longevity yet, but so far so good.

So far so good! i bought this to upgrade the existing wd caviar green drive in our laview security camera dvr, since it was only 500gb. That fills up pretty quickly once you add more cameras and max out the video quality. I picked the wd purple drive since it is described as being surveillance-grade and built for 24/7 use. Hopefully it holds up to that and lasts for a while. I have a caviar black in one of our tivos, and another caviar black in my thinkpad laptop. No problems with wd drives so far.

Seagate SkyHawk 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive - SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Drive ST4000VX007

I originally used a standard hd for my security nvr, which failed around 2 years of use. So in 2 years i'll be back with the results. But it worked right out of the box, and says it's designed for security systems.

Quieter, holds double the data, and uses less power than the factory hard drive in my dvr.

The F.A.Q. for amcrest prohd 1080p 16ch video security dvr digital recorder, 16-channel 1080p 30fps, hd analog, hard drive & cameras not included, remote smartphone access amdv108016

I started looking for a standalone cctv system after we had a few security cameras installed on the inside of our house (vivint). We really like having the ability to pull up our cameras from our phones anywhere, anytime. So began our hunt for a more in depth system. I, like many other reviewers here, did tons of research on many different types of systems and based on the sheer number of solid reviews and reviewer's images we decided on the amcrest 1080p 8ch tribrid hdcvi. We knew we wanted the highest resolution possible, 8 cameras, infrared, and mobile access capability. This system has it all. Be warned: installation is tedious and can be tricky. By that i mean the running of the bnc cables. I ran mine through the attic which is the best way, in my opinion, to avoid tampering. It will be time consuming, frustrating, sometimes downright painful, but is worth it in the end. Anyone not familiar with a home's construction should certainly hire someone to install this system. On the other hand the setup is super easy. If you don't plan on hiding wires, this system could be set up and running in about 10 minutes if you were to pull it out of the box, plug it in, and quickly run through startup. The user interface is fantastic. It's very responsive with no lag in video feed. Setup of the network setting was easy after i jumped online. Amcrest's channel has some great setup videos that made this process problem free. The quick start guide and the user manual lack pertinent information and can be slightly confusing. ( videos made setup a breeze). The only downside i've found (not that big of a deal really, but worth noting) is that the fan is noticeably louder than i was expecting. Not deafening, but our dvr is in our bedroom and the sound is the first thing we notice when we walk into our room. I read one review that said this part is easily replaceable with an aftermarket cpu fan, but i think we're going to leave this one as is. Again, not a big deal, and wouldn't stop me from purchasing this unit again. So far, this system has been rock solid and has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. (best surveillance picture i've seen). This has absolutely given my wife and i peace of mind and i would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a high resolution home/ office security camera setup but doesn't want to break the bank.

1080p motion detection is excellent contrary to many of the reviews i've read. When i first installed the camera the motion detection was garbage, it recorded about 22 hours out of the day but i changed the sensitivity and threshold, set up multiple zones per camera and it is working perfectly. If you look at my first picture, you can see the distance between the yellow lines (recordings from motion detection) are spaced out. For those who are having problems with the motion detection you need to read the manual and configure your cameras! . Video quality is an 8/10. The cameras are very clear but i cannot read any of the license plates on cars that go by my house. This was disappointing but besides that i have no complaints. The picture is very sharp and clear (don't settle for 720p cameras you will be unsatisfied! ). Wiring this system was the most difficult part of all. We own a large home and 3 of the cable runs were pretty long. Approx 130ft (bought a different cable), 80ft and 60ft. It took me 7 hours to run the wires correctly(hiding them so the only exposed wire is to the dvr). I knew what i was getting into though, if you buy a wireless system chances are you will run into connectivity problems. I worked in home automation for about a year and all of our wireless systems would have issues. We would never get called back after installing wired systems though. It takes a lot longer to set up but they are better and more reliable. The network configuration for remote viewing was pretty easy, as was modifying the settings/zones for the camera. You will need to reference the manual to configure your cameras! i cannot emphasize that enough. I work in it and have experience setting this stuff up but each system has its own software. They differ system to system. If you have any issues configuring the cameras give their tech support a call, i've read from other reviews they are helpful. Lastly, the phone/web apps. Here is the main reason i bought this system. Amcrest has top notch remote viewing. The only issue i've seen is their phone app lacks playback(doesn't work for my wife and i) but really playback should be limited to your internal home network anyways. With that said i'd rate their apps at a 9. 5/10, the only flaw is the playback issue. . Overall i rate this system a 9/10, it is hard to beat imo. You'd have to spend a lot more money to beat the quality of this system. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Best amcrest security 16 channel smartphone amdv108016 (surveilance systems) in review

I've read other accounts of why home video surveillance was a great idea, then we found out first hand. Today's home receives a much higher number of deliveries than homes of the not so distant past. Interestingly, it was one of our overnight surveillance videos that enabled the police to identify and correct an unwanted visitor and his nightly rounds of "activity". The only thing i can add to this review is the advice others have given. Four channels are good. Eight channels are better. We debated getting white cameras (to help them blend with our white trim), but the plainly visible camera where packages are delivered offers a bit of a deterrent for any who might find the packages attractive objects of desire. . A bit about customer support: although the information on line and information included in the box were a bit lacking in clarity, the people of amcrest (chat, email, and telephone) are all dedicated to helping you get your system up and running and helping keep it running. We had a small issue with our system about 7 months into the set up, and they were very fast in helping us to correct the issue. Response times to emails are very fast. Each person at amcrest seems personally invested in maintaining their very good name. From set up, to product questions, to expansion or even product issues, the people of amcrest work very hard to make sure every customer is satisfied. . Best images, even at night that i've seen. Certainly a bit of a challenge to set up, but once you figure it out, it has excellent image quality. Great capture of activity day and night. Works well an a variety of weather conditions. The night vision was the most impressive for us. The images are clear, and the infrared lights for the night vision images have a surprisingly good field of view/distance range. Excellent memory capacity. Great recording features. The night time photos have had the license plate blocked out because the image quality was so good, we actually had to block it out of the photo. My snapshot camera does not photograph video screens very well, so please understand these are for illustration purposes to get an idea of the quality of the night vision cameras. There is one color shot in the bottom left of the "night" photo, because the system is so sensitive, it continued to pick up the "blue" sky after the sun had set.

I looked at a lot of different brands of surveilance systems before buying amcrest. I can honestley say amcrest is the best in my opinion, i bought the 1080p system and the picture quality is great, also remote viewing with the amcrest lite app works great on my smart phone. Anytime i had a question i would e-mail amcrest and get a fast reply. My friends and family are impressed with my security camera set up and can not beleive the price i got it for, amcrest is a five star company. I could not be happier with my purchase. . Update to my review. I originally gave this company 5 stars, that was before the last update to the amcrest view lite app, since the update i can no longer connect to any of my 4 cameras remoteley. I used p2p to view all 4 cameras for over a year without a problem, since the new update of the amcrest view lite app i can no longer even see 4 cameras in the set up, in other words no way to add cameras in the app, the one camera i do see will not connect, i even flashed the new dvr firmware update but still no go, i had amcrest support hook up to my pc and they spent 2 hours trying to fix the problem but no such luck, i sent them numerous e-mails in order to get them to send me the older version of the amcrest view lite app as well as the older dvr firmware, i did not hear back from them until 5 days later, there reason, they were busy helping all new customers who purchased there equiptment on christmas, i took that to mean that i no longer matter because i did not buy it this christmas. I searched the internet for reviews of the updated view lite app , and sure enough there are many customers like myself that are haveing the same issue since the last view lite app, the cameras are great but the software department have totally failed, this company needs to fire there app development team and get a reliable app for there products. I am still waiting to hear back from them again, i will update when i do, i just wanted new customers to know this in advance. . I wanted to post a new update for amcrest and there support, i can honestley say that this company went above and beyond to fix the issue i had with my dvr and the view lite app, they sent me a new dvr that works perfect now with remote view on my smart phone, they went out of there way to help me with any issues i had and resolved all my problems, the picture quality is 5 star and now with my remote view working i could not be happier, this company is 5 star now in my opinion

Gary hyler is amazing! - he worked with me in assisting the set up of my amcrest security camera system. You cannot get better quality equipment or service for these amazing prices! i have now had my system almost 2 years in new hampshire and it gets very cold and very hot here. The weather has made no difference on performance at all. The help from gary hyler was paramount. The set up can be done alone without assistance but if you need it technicians like this gentlemen are available and will make it look so very easy! thank you gary hyler for your very professional assistance, courteous attitude, and kind hearted patient individual who lets nothing stop him when given a task. I am as pleased with my cameras as i am my service. - do not hesitate to purchase this equipment. It will provide years of safe, happy, fun, reliable, and reassuring protection and monitoring of your home or business. The night vision is outstanding. I can see so far into the darkness its unreal and no one is walking onto my property without me knowing, the motion detection with variable sensitiveness settings is accurate, the color, the clarity all just amazing! with a dvr that records 15 days at a time and then starts recording back at day one again, you have plenty of time to back and look for anything that you need to see. There are more functions and settings to customize than you could ask for. The remote amcrest view pro app on my iphone allows me to watch anytime, anywhere. While at home i simply hook up to a monitor and use a large screen. If you have kids, pets, nannys, valuables or a family member that needs supervision this is the way to go! tips - cameras are weatherproof. But here in new england we have serious weather so i wrapped my cameras in clear industrial plastic to further protect them and it has worked flawlessly. Extra cameras are gold! a++ service, a++ equipment, a++ performance! - thank you gary hyler and thank you amcrest!

The interface is really weird, but once you get the settings all sorted, this is a really fantastic setup. The quality is perfect. Viewing the cameras on my laptop is super convenient. The mobile app isn't the best of quality, but i love how quick and easy it is to check if anyone is home. . Just a few days after setting it up, it caught someone coming into our yard and siphoning gas out of our trucks. The video was good enough to identify the man and now he is jail.

On 12/18/2015 i purchased an amcrest amdv10808m-8b-w tribrid hd-cvi system and installed it on 12/21/2015. I am happy and recommend this product 100%. I thought i should share what led me to do this and my comparative review. I do not have any affiliation with either company mentioned below. . Background: on 10/25/2012 i purchased a lorex lhd1042001 4-channel hd-sdi system. Installed it ok about 3 days later, the first camera failed . Without going into the 3 years of problems, i am thrilled to get rid of the lorex product. All references to lorex, are to my lorex lhd1042001 4-channel hd-sdi system. . Amcrest software setup was easy. Watched the videos on their website, scan the qr code and within 30 seconds, you re watching the cameras over your smartphone no kidding! lorex on the other hand, was days and finally a call to support (hanging on for hours) and they had to take over my pc remotely to setup the system. . Amcrest view lite app picture works at any smartphone angle. This is a plus when you re on a ladder 35 up and need one hand to hang on, while adjusting the cameras. Lorex app goes network disconnected when you rotate your phone; very dangerous. . Amcrest view lite app works for wifi and cellular connections. Lorex app worked only on cellular connections. Have had several failed to connect errors with amcrest view lite app, lorex app always connected. . Aiming the amcrest cameras is easy, 1 philips screw adjustment for all angles. Lorex was a nightmare; two small hex key interlocking angle adjustments. Remember, you re on a ladder holding your phone to view the picture while adjusting . . Amcrest claims a 75 degree fov (field of view) on their cameras; lorex claims a 79 degree fov. You decide, see daytime comparative pictures. No, i didn't type the 's backwards. . Amcrest night vision is clear. No ghosting or fish eye/circular ring like lorex had. See night vision pictures. Lorex blurry picture is probably due to lens having water spots. Lorex cameras would flake out sometime with black bars across the screen when hit with car headlights in darkness; amcrest cameras work no problem, same conditions. . Amcrest cameras can read license plates of cars entering my driveway. The lorex could not. . Amcrest supports safari, ie, firefox and chrome (supposedly under development). Lorex supports internet explorer. . Amcrest cost $1000 for 8 cameras($800 now). Lorex, in 2012, cost $1500 for 4 cameras. . One amcrest camera was bad (breaking up video); amcrest replaced it with a brand new one! two lorex cameras were replaced (both appeared to be repaired). A lorex support person s answer to cameras messing up (3 out of 4 overall) was to power cycle the cameras . Really? what good is the lorex security system then? . . Yes, the amcrest dvr fan is loud; lorex was quieter. I ll take amcrest loud fans over lorex bad video. . Yes, i just dumped the lorex system and put in an amcrest! i m happy again, i hope this helps some folks.

I started out the security camera endeavor by buying 5 wireless ip cameras from amcrest and trying to hook them all via a separate ethernet switch. This was a month long annoyance with constant connection dropouts, having to reboot several cameras multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day, having to install 2 separate apps to control them (view pro and amcrest cloud), the hilariously bad compatibility between those 2 apps (cloud will overwrite the view pro settings you spent an hour setting up). . After one camera finally stopped working i said screw it and returned all of them for an all-wired dvr camera system. The experience could not be more night and day. The dvr hooked up incredibly easily by comparison, all the cameras fired right up without any hassle, the setup-wizard was a breeze, and setting it all up in the app was as easy as you could want. The only complaint i have is that the view pro app is not as clean-looking as the cloud app. While the cloud app is awful in so many different ways, the user interface was nice and streamlined and going to a specific video was easy, as well as saving that video. With view pro, not so much. You can get there, but it's not as easy. Having said that, the amount of customization is really great, even if they don't tell you what any of the items do (would it kill you, amcrest, to have hover-tips like every other piece of software ever? ). The video quality is great, and i'm especially happy with the night time video. The ir leds work great and really light up quite a large area (pictures included). Full disclosure, the 2 driveway pictures i included have 2 small ir blasters supplimenting the camera ir lights, but they're pretty tiny. In the truck picture, one is shining on the mailbox. In the front door picture, one is shining on the front door. The back porch picture is only using the camera ir. . As for the hardware, definitely can't complain. The video looks great, the cameras seem well-built and sturdy (with the exception of the terrible screws they give you, i used my own for the install), and the dvr itself has a lot of great functionality and io. I did not encounter the loud fan issue that many seem to notice. This is placed in a spare room that does not get used so it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but during setup i did not notice that the unit was any louder than a laptop at normal operation. Maybe they fixed it, or maybe i'm just going def, who knows. The included cording is fantastic, the two 50'ers were enough for the garage cameras, and the 100' i used for the back and will be using the other 100' for the back when i get the post in the ground to mount the camera to. . All in all, i'm very glad i didn't give up on amcrest and ordered a wired, dvred camera system. Don't waste your money on wireless cameras, it's not worth the hassle. For all the money i spent trying to get those stupid wireless cameras working and then buying ethernet cable when the wireless kept failing, i could have bought 1. 5 of these dvr camera systems and saved myself an enormous amount of hassle.

This is my third replacement vsr. Amcrest ultrahd is definitely the best recorder of all the ones i looked at on online store and elsewhere. I looked at over a dozen recorders on the market. My last recorder went south not long ago and i began my search for a solid 4 channel recorder. . No matter what i looked at online, the amcrest seemed to be head and shoulders above the contenders. I purchased the amcrest after a week of comparisons. Since i already had an existing hard drive from the old recorder, i opted for the. Amcrest without a drive installed. . The recorder arrived on time, setup was very easy. I installed the drive in five minutes. Made the proper camera connections, connected the monitor, turned it on and it fired right up to the start menu. The recorder has an ample amount of items to set in the menu options, but easy to navigate with ease. . My sony cameras never looked so crisp and clear. Amcrest had really made an easy to install recorder. The recorder is nicely made and we'll designed. Some recorders look cheap and leave alot to be desired in the quality zone. Not with amcrest. You get a quality product at a nice price. . The third time was a charm! i give this recorder five stars * it was so easy to setup, i did not even have to contact amcrest customer support which reviews indicate is excellent. If your replacing a recorder or need a total system, look no further, amcrest has it. Very nice line of security products!

This is the second amcrest system i have purchased. The first was a 960h through online store. This system seemed to work well, but i felt the video quality was lacking for the outdoor home security i was using it for. Installation went ok, but getting the dvr connected to my network took support from amcrest. They did a decent job of helping with that, and i thought all was well. We had a strange person creeping around our house about 6 weeks after the cameras were installed, and had him on video walking around the vehicle that was parked outside and saw him looking around our side and back yard. Although we could see him, the clarity wasn t really good enough to clearly identify him. (kinda the point of having cameras). So, i went through amcrest the second time and ordered a 1080p system to replace my 960h. This system was fairly easy to upgrade to, as i already had the cables ran through the house. The mounting holes for the cameras were different, so i had to drill more holes in the side of my house, but it wasn t too bad. Learning from the setup on my last system, i called amcrest first off and just had them do the network connection and set up the remote viewing. It took them 45 minutes to do, so i m sure i would have had 3-4 hrs in before finally giving up and just calling. Craig did a good job of getting things set up over the phone and with remote log in. I m not sure how much better this new 1080p system is as far as video quality, but i m going to work with it and see how it goes. I was expecting better quality than what i m seeing, but haven t tried to play with it much. I ll update my review after a month or so of monitoring for more creepers. :-)

After purchasing a 960p wireless from another company and having issues with the app and support, i returned system and upgraded to the amcrest prohd1080p system. Fortunately i was able to run the cables through my basement and up through the floor and connect to the router. There is nothing like having the ability to check on the security of your house remotely using an app that works! i have four more cameras to install and so far the system is working fine; however, there is a ton of it data in this system that i will never use or access :-) the cameras are clear and night vision is awesome. Tip, take your time during the installation and if unsure how to do it, contact support or have a professional do it.

The main reason why i bought the amcrest video security system is due to its continuous video recording (cvr) feature. As the owner of arlo security system, i am very frustrated that arlo doesn't start recording for about 2-3 seconds after someone walks by and by the time it starts recording, the person is gone from view. It makes the arlo camera pretty much useless since it takes that long to detect motion and record. The af-2mbc-varib, bullet camera is my answer. It has a solid feel right out of the box. There s a thick metal housing, with an all-metal mount. The joint system that has a ball and socket adjuster that makes repositioning the camera simple. It s waterproof and weatherproof with ip66 certification. So it can stand up to whatever elements mother nature throws at it heat, humidity, rain, snow and freezing temperatures. What i like most is its excellent image quality. The camera is 2 mp, with a resolution of up to 1920x 1080p with built in motion detection, an up-to 90-degree viewing angle. The quality of the images is well sustained even in lower light, thanks to backlight compensation and infrared illumination that kicks in automatically as needed. The reason why this camera has good night vision exposure adjustment is due to led placement and a true ir cut filter. There are no strong hot spots interfering with night vision. I compared its video quality with slightly cheaper model annke c11db camera. This amcrest definitely outperforms every aspect of annke camera, which tends to have rainbow effect picked up at certain lighting conditions (see photo). Since all i want is a camera with high quality images, even in low light, and something sturdy that s going to stand up to rain, snow, and other adverse weather conditions, at a very affordable price point, the amcrest bullet camera is a great choice for me.

Great hdcvi camera! this camera give a 1080p cvi feed at up to 20 frames per second. Base screws off and you have four screw holes to use supplies phillips screws/ drywall anchors if necessary. Having that mounted you can put wire through structure or run wire under the base you just screwed on using one of the four slot holes on side of circular base if necessary. I did this and works fine and you can't see the wire in my install, as i didn't want to drill a hole in porch. See photos. This is not a digital ip camera. It must be connected to a conventional dvr to see the image. Overall a great camera. I am very happy.

I bought this larger system because i wanted more cameras and my old amcrest system only allowed 4 cameras. My son and i set about installing it today. We did it so fast (granted we used cameras that were already installed) that we had time to go swimming! it was too hot in the attic to install the rest of the cameras but i was really surprised at how easy it went in. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is documentation and unexplained features; for instance one of the features on the screen indicates a ptz can trace or track motion that occurs on the camera. Maybe i don't understand the feature or maybe it does something else called tracing, who knows; because the documentation is not up to par i may never know. I would like for someone to give me an explanation of every button on the interface. . Regarding service, christine and caleb have been a huge help. The fact is i didn't know that this system even existed until i contacted caleb who listened to my needs an suggested this system. I contacted christine banks with some questions and she was great about helping me out. . Overall amcrest is a great product, so much so i bought my son a system too and he loves it.

The video quality is excellent! very easy to set up. There are two issues i have with the cameras: 1. Which could really be on all of them, is the fact if an auto is facing the camera at night you can't see the plate number. 2. At the 1080p the dvr storage should have been set up with more space without having to have a back up storage, because if you're away on vacation for 2 weeks you would have to view everyday to make sure someone wasn't snooping around because that video is lost after 8 or 9 days. I know i could get a larger backup storage, but didn't want to pay hundreds more. The app works pretty good because you can change the view to hd on the app itself also. I think for the quality and overall ease of operation this system was the best for the price. I had a 720p lorex that i had lots of issues with, and will never go back to using their product unless it was 100% improved. Update. Had to return due to hard drive kept shutting down. Contacted online store and the company and they had a lot of complaints about that. The system was updated to a newer model along with the cameras updated to ip67 which has more protection from water damage and mine was replaced by online store not the company. After i installed the system 2 of my cameras the night vision did not work so i contacted online store and found out that i would have to return the whole system, which i did not want to do. I contacted the company and was told to return the cameras to them and they would send me new ones. The new ones i got sent were ip66 cameras, which is what was printed on the boxes. Went back and forth with the company and they told me the cameras i got were ip67 which were put in the wrong boxes! i questioned how could that happen to both cameras. I think they lied to me about it and the customer service was very rude. I was called from them a few days later saying they could replace them in about a month, because they said that shipment all had the wrong info on the boxes. That was 2 months ago and they still have not sent me upgraded cameras. I still like everything about the system. Just be prepared to deal with rude customer service if you need to talk to them. I had a horrible time with them! if this system completely dies on me i will choose a different brand for sure!

I ordered two of the white cameras. I own a black one that i bought a year ago that works great. Evidently they changed the ir lights inside it, so it needs a high power cable to power the camera. They work great in daytime but the ir flickers at night. Buying a new dedicated power supply with a 1 amp connection per camera did not solve the problem. I also tried a different cable with the same problem. If you look at the difference between the models. You will see a different ir setup between the models. The ones with a straight ring around the edge have the ir problem is what i am guessing as my other one camera works great and the ir setup is different. . Changing my review! i see that amcrest has replied which is nice but never called him. Another user in this review made me think. He mentioned he had to run dedicated power he had his power cord plugged 6 foot away. My 100 ft runs of pre-made cable were junk and sure enough, ir would turn on with a shorter run. I bought a 25 foot cable (pre-made) that seemed to be a little higher quality and that worked as well. . None that i saw that were premade listed the awg thickness. I guessed at the awg thickness (24 awg, 1 amp 12v) and ran it through a calculator. The difference between a 100 ft run (43% voltage drop) and a 25 ft run (10% voltage drop) was more than i would have thought. These new cameras cannot handle it but i cannot really fault them for upgrading the ir so i am only taking off once star. I would be very hesitant if you're running long runs without good rated awg cable for the power run.

Install was fairly simple. Hard drive install easy as well. I purchased the 4tb that online store matches with the system. The cables that come with the system are not long enough for a standard install. I purchased the 150 cables to go along with the system. One channel on the dvr flickers periodicallly but not enough that i m ready to send it back yet. I purchased the extended warranty so i have time to make a decision on that. The motion sensors are pretty amazing, i had to turn them way down and set block out areas on my he camera to keep it from activating. The farthest camera run i have currently is 350 from the dvr and the camera quality has not degraded. The last run i will make is 700 , i ll update my review after i finish. The specs claim 1600 feet with no power loss on the cameras so we ll see. The 1080 video is amazing. The night vision is pretty good. It s not clear out to 75 but you know something is out there. I detected wild rabbits from about 40 but could not make out what they were, just knew based on their movements what they were. At 20 it s clear, no issues. I installed my cameras in front of motion floods and can see out to 150 at night. During the day, you can see beyond 500 . The entire system can be configured via the phone app, so you don t have to stand in front of the tv. Some of the advanced setting have to be set up at the dvr but after initial set up you can sit on the couch or configure remotely. The motion alerts work great, i receive a notification that there is motion and go to the app and watch the playback. Remote playback is less than 720p but that is irrelevant as the dvr is recording at 1080p. The 720p playback is good enough to let you see what s going on and creates the time stamp event in your log file for review later. I remotely monitor my system using hughesnet. I m sure if it were hardwired to a lan line it would be much better. Overall this is an amazing system.

I bought this amcrest 1080p 4 camera system because i have an outbuilding that i use as a work shop/man cave. There are a lot of valuable things in there, and i recently had all of the windows removed and replaced the wood framed residential door with a commercial steel outswing one. I said all of that to say this: i am impressed with this system, i only needed 4 cameras, and this is perfect. The wired hd system is very superior to wireless, and i don't have to worry about adding a lot of interference in here with 4 more devices sending. I tried several different brands of wireless cameras first before finally biting the bullet and resigning myself to having to drill holes and run wires. It took about a weekend of off and on work to get everything done, and now i love it. All four sides of my outbuilding are now covered, and i have to added benefit of being able to also cover the rest of the entry ways and property on the 30 acres of farm land too. We have 2 street lights on photo cells that come on at dark, and between the built in infrared leds on the cameras, and those, i can see about 100 yards behind me, down the main driveway. Anyway, i am attaching pictures of my setup, you can judge for yourself. I ended up buying a 43" led tv to be the "monitor" for this. I can now easily see it from anywhere in my building, and they are as clear as looking out of a window.

Excellent product. Packaging was superb. It took me a whole day to set up the entire system, most time was spent mounting and feeding the wires to the cameras. Typical. The 1080p hd cameras are very good and the ir night vision is just a bonus. The image quality is really outstanding, especially viewing from an ipad/iphone where you can zoom in. The difference between the sd and hd view option in quite remarkable, and very welcome. The option to view on your iphone while adjusting the cameras to just the right angle, was a nice and made set up quicker. The cables are "thin" enough, that i was actually able to feed them through my window frames (with a little adjustment) and still retain the window seal, rather than snake though the attic. In my situation, it made it a much easier setup but that may not work for everyone. . The only thing i don't like about the system is the 8 bnc connectors are so close together, that it makes it hard to connect all eight, but it can be done and they seat in secure. Bad design, should have left just a little bit more space and it would be ok. But its not something you will be plugging and unplugging all the time, so no big issue. Just make the next one better. . The software is fairly easy to get going but the manual could be written better, (what's new) but at least it covers all aspects of setup. I love the option of attaching an external hard drive to store images or using the cloud rather than the internal hd. . This was exactly the home system i have been looking for, and the monday after i got it all set up, my cameras captured the big wind and rain storm that knock my tomato plants over in my back garden! (see the picture attached, that i took with my iphone in front of the tv screen as i watch the playback). The other picture is the 4 camera view (in hd) from my ipad air. . Aecrest seems to have a winning product here. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

*update*. Amcrest themselves are taking care of me and will replace my bad dvr, i am very impressed at how they are going about making sure i am happy! thank you, carlos! . . I bought this in may, to replace 2 720p amcrest dvrs and we put our hard drive and 8 cameras on it. From there, in june we had to start buying cameras and wires because everything started to not work. Right now i have two cameras out after fixing two. Now we get it, it a broken dvr, when you put it on channel 8 it starts making crackling sounds. I called amcrest tech support and you can't even understand them first of all, secondly, they want remote access to my computer which won't fix what appears to be a short in the system. I will not let them access my computer, so they were going to email me a set of instructions, after telling them my email address 3 times i still never got the email. I emailed firstvision technologies yesterday and still have not gotten a response back from them. Not a happy customer, almost 200. 00 + the cost of the new wires and cameras i still don't have a working system.

I like this (8 camera 1080p w/dvr) security system as the video quality is awesome and ease of install was a breeze. My only complaints are the software takes some getting use to figuring out how it works, having to use the included mouse to login into the dvr (which makes the remote basically useless as you can't access the alphabet on it), and lastly the app tends to crash a lot. With the app i wish it had a logout feature, in order to not have to complete a full setup feature on the app, when it crashes then i wouldn't have to delete it and install again with the setup of the dvr access again. I think they've done pretty well with the hardware now they just need to put some more time and money into new software for the dvr and a better app. All in all i'm happy with my purchase and hope amcrest is able in the future to alleviate some of these faults so my system can be better off and new people don't become discruntled with some of these issues.

L. Mays, Sachsen

One camera went bad quickly. They replaced the new camera with an older style refurbished one. Wasn't too happy about that. Can't really tell the difference in picture though. *see edit* the phone app stinks for the iphone 6. Not very intuitive. Cannot view live cameras in landscape mode. Portrait mode squashes the picture. Playback will do landscape. Dvr fan is a bit loud. Other than that, it works well. . Edit: installing the latest version of the app has solved the live landscape mode issue.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

L. Hadley, Bexley says

One of the worst products i've ever purchased. Their reviews much be fake. The cameras only connect for viewing purposes about 10% of the time. When i finally heard back from customer service, they said they were aware of the problem and were "working on it". They said you just need to keep opening and closing the app until they connect (which you easily could be doing for 20 minutes before you see an image). Also, you want to watch video playback? nope! i've not been able to do that once! that is absurd and defeats the purpose of having a system like this. I've had this product since may 2016 and nothing has improved. If you want security you're not getting it with amcrest. I also had to replace a camera after a couple months. Horrible customer service. Horrible product. I've just purchased an entirely new system from a different company to replace this one. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs!

Z. Julia, Newfoundland and Labrador

I am writing a "supplemental" review, as i purchased this system last year and have been using it for a little while. The system itself works pretty well, although the setup to make it work on your phone or computer is incredibly difficult. The instructions are for an experienced technician, and the interface is not very easy to use or understand at first. I also want to note that this company does not support free product exchanges in the case of defective products, which i am frustrated with. Out of the 8 cameras, one dome camera has not worked properly, ever. I've been in touch with customer service numerous times with the same problems and finally determined that the camera itself is defective, but when i contacted amcrest direct to replace this defective part, i was charged $15. Amcrest sent me this email:. . Nichole (amcrest)mar 14, 4:30 pm cst. Hi, . We have received your request for replacement and we'd be more than happy to assist you. In order to proceed with a warranty replacement, we require a $15. 00 shipping cost payment. This will cover your shipping costs both ways and we will provide you with a prepaid label. . I think that amcrest should be paying shipping charges to replace their defective parts and am less than happy with the support i've received since purchasing this system. Buyer be ware.

To start off, i would like to say that the system is great and looks as clear as you can expect from a security system. If it works properly. When we first got this, we installed it in a residential home(my fathers house) and it worked great. Easy to connect, easy to set up, it worked. I figured out the controls, etc. 3 months of using this and all of a sudden, the online link between the app and the home system do not work. I tried calling amcrest, and they said the internet service provider needs to open up certain ports for it to work. . First of all, it was working fine. What changed? who knows! fine, i can understand that maybe something with the isp changed. I called the isp, they opened the ports (which by the way they wanted to charge me for, but that's a whole new story and desperate from this product). I tried it again, and still it doesn't work. I called amcrest, and they said i need to open more ports. Once again i go to my isp and they want to charge me again but i get them to adjust the ports. Still no fix. I contacted amcrest again and they just told me that once the ports were adjusted it should work. . How is this suppose to be a consumer product? i feel i am pretty tech savvy but this is too much just to get the cameras to connect to the app over wifi. The thermostat is connected to the wifi router and we're able to access it via an app. I don't see how this could be so much different. *please note the rest of the system works, my issue is with the connection to wifi. . The nvr is connected via ethernet to the wifi router so there is no distortion in connection. Long story short, works great if everything connects fine. I gave up on it and now i'm stuck with it because it's past warranty. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because of all the other features including playback and picture quality.

One camera is not working at night! called customer service passed onto another department! i bought this two weeks ago. They lasted 1 year and they won't work anymore. They do not replace them, nor offer you any options or support. They just offer a discount to buy a new product. Seriously?

This camera system is okay, the support and software available for it is garbage. . I've had this camera system now for about 6 months and live in a very lively area. So the police are always asking for the videos. . The offload/ back up process is okay, but note that you can only have about a 32 gig flash drive plugged in as my 2 tb ones never showed up (i did not go through and try to install multiple 2 tb drives to see if they worked. The wd i tried did not register. Same with my 4tbs). . You have to use a proprietary software in order to watch the footage on your computer. And that software is garbage. Its probably one of the least user friendly pieces of software i've used in a long time. The ui is trash, there are absolutely no tutorials online for it outside of their website. Which has little one page tutorials on how to download and run the first time. And that's it. I even called support with a question about their software and they said they did not have a manual for it and he might have a youtube video. (they didn't). . To top it off their installers and software flags all the time in my anti virus software. I've turned off and made exceptions to rules while installing and working on it. Then when i contacted my support they immediately want remote access to my computer. Which is a big no way for me. Today i sent them a screen cap of the problem i was having with their security pro smart client software, then they came back with the response, "looks like a resolution issue, contact our support for use to remotely fix it. " instead of just telling me how to fix it. Way to eager to gain access to my computer for a resolution issue. . If you want to view your camera's on your lan you can only use firefox and you need to create a new account on the dvr. Also in order to get this new account to work you cannot have a password with numbers in it as for some reason the numbers don't translate from the dvr password to the computer. . Example: user: test. Pass: test123. . Would not work but. . User: test. Pass: test. Works. . So the tldr: okay camera and clarity. Garbage software, and invasive outsourced support. . Two stars because the cameras themselves are actually decent. But they are serious about the detail fall off after 25 ft. But it has still helped the police multiple times. So that's okay in my book. . Editing this to 1 star:. . I'm tired of dealing with tech support. I email them, they tell me to call them, i call them. They tell me to email them. . Also one of the cameras just crapped out after 5 months and now i have to go through my attic in 100+ degree heat to rerun cables. . Over this camera system.

Who would have thought you could buy a dvr without a hard drive? you would think that info would be in the ad bullet points! . Never got to use it. I returned it as soon as i found out it has no hard drive. It's right there in the description paragraph too. My bad because after i did my research i pulled it up on online store and pulled the trigger and never pulled up the detailed description. The product can be purchased directly from their web site with a hard drive pre-installed for cheaper than this. I'm rethinking amcrest as my recorder.

Dvr stopped working after 4 months due to an issue with the hard disk. Thing kept on beeping loudly non-stop. Contacted amcrest for support and they referred me to their hard disk supplier to deal with them. I bought a amcrest security system and hence expect the amcrest warranty to cover any issues with their equipment and not have to deal with their parts supplier. I guess amcrest is expecting me to take apart their dvr and pull out the broken hard disk and deal with their supplier. Talk about customer support. Definitely would not buy amcrest again.

This was my first purchase of a security camera system. Everything was great and was as expected. I would give it a 5-star for hardware alone. Unfortunately, the software is dragging the points down. . Pros:. - everything is living up to the expectations - especially the hardware. The cameras and the dvr system are excellently built. - apps and software come in many different platforms. - picture is very sharp and clear in hd. It is great even when you are viewing it from a phone. - cameras can see far away in night vision. . Cons:. - lots of bugs for software. - everything is as expected; except for the specs you are expecting. - unable to identify model numbers in comparing to the manufacturer's website. That leads unable to update firmware. - very limited online forum supports from manufacturer. - the exhaust fan is loud. The placement of the fan is part of the issue. . I was going to subtract one star from the 5-star max due to software issues. However, as i continued to look into the issues i encountered, i started to discover even more hidden problems among the different software. One more point taken off. Yet, i would still recommend this product to others. This is simply because the issues can vary from one device to another. It is all about each person's luck. . Below are important details you may want to know. . Software/control interfaces - they come in at least five different platforms - android phones, tablets, iphones, dvr ui and browser ui. Each of them is individually developed. Some functions exist on one platform while some do not. Ex: pir function only exist on the android tablet platform. Also, amcrest collects usage data for performance evaluations. The opt out option only exist on the tablet platform. Dvr's ui, android phones and iphones do not have such option to choose. So, i can't tell if amcrest is collecting my usage data or not when i am using my phone. . Let's talk about each ui platform. This can be a turn-off for some people, but it is important for you to learn now. Dvr's ui - the interface is easy to use. It is very straight forward. However, there are many bugs. Some examples include, users are unable to save settings, motion detection can be buggy or not working as intended, some functions are known to have known bugs with no short term plan to fix, etc. Browser's ui - many people have a hard time getting this to work. That is including myself. I had the plugin installed on my window 10 pc. However, the app didn't load on my microsoft edge, chrome and firefox. The proposed solution is not living up-to-date. The app loaded up on my vista pc. However, the cpu usage killed my laptop twice. I had to hard reset my laptop. Therefore, i can't tell you much about my experience on this platform. Android phones', android tablets' and iphones' ui - their operations and ui layouts are very similar. They are way less buggy than the built-in software from dvr. I must say the only drawback is that the ui's are not intuitive enough. Some people find that 3rd party phone apps are more user friendly. My view on the software/control interfaces is that amcrest is trying to satisfy users of different kind. Unfortunately, it lacks the focus on making each platform great. Let's be fair. This applies to almost all hardware companies. . Let's talk about specs, model numbers and firmware. I decided to find the latest firmware for my dvr and my cameras. So, i looked at the packaging box and compare them to the manufacturer's website. Well, for my dvr, the model number was not found. Strangely enough, the device itself had a different model number. For my cameras, the model numbers shown on the devices do not even match the serial formatting as listed on the website. The packaging box doesn't even mention about camera models other than telling you that you are getting four bullet cameras. People have a hard time guessing which firmware to download. There are no words from the officials in resolving this. On the packaging box, it lists the cameras as ingress protection ip67. After doing a research on my camera models, they are actually ip66. I know a slight change on models and specs won't matter much. However, unable to identify the right firmware is a big issue. Let's assume that firmware is there to patch security issues. . Now, for the exhaust fan most people are talking about. Yes, the original fan is loud. Therefore, i changed mine with a new fan. The new fan was absolutely quiet. That was until i put it into the dvr. What i noticed was that the fan is not directly sticking to the case; there was a gap between the fan and the case. That pretty much amplified the air flow noises much like how a whistle works. If the original fan was directly mounted onto the case, the noises wouldn't be a huge problem. . With many of the negatives i mentioned above, i would still recommend others in buying this. You just have to hope that you get less bugs than most others. Otherwise, the devices themselves work very nicely. After knowing and jumping all these hoops, i am happy with what i am using now. . Good luck!

This is the first system i ever bought. I purchased it after a barn down the street "mysteriously" burnt down the night before halloween. I installed it and set it up myself which was fairly easy. I got this system with the 1080p cameras and am very pleased with the quality of the images. The system has way more features than i will use. I use it on all the time with motion sensor off and overwrite the hd. I like that it easily connected to my android phone using the amcrest lite app. After having this system for a while now, i regret not getting one with 8 channels instead of 4 as even though i have a smaller home there are some blind spots that i'd like covered. The reason for 4 stars is that one camera went out after only 1 week. The best part is that they have customer support that are easy to get a hold of, are very knowledgeable and helpful, and got a new camera for me without any hassle. The cameras are made in china (not much that isn't now a days) so i hope they last. Edit: after 6 more months and still under warranty the system kept shutting down and restarting. I found a tiny cpu fan had seized up and was no longer cooling the cpu. I contacted the company who initially told me that i had to replace the whole dvr and they were currently out of stock. I pressed the issue and told them it was only the fan mounted on the cpu and why did i need a whole dvr. Well they sent me a rma for a dvr that they were out of. Again i told them it was only the fan, they said it couldn't be replaced and to send back the dvr. Keep in mind i'm no brain surgeon but the fan only had 3 small screws holding it on the heat sink and a small plug connected to the main board. I researched and easily found one from a competitor so rather than go without the system i ordered it and installed it with no problem. It cost me almost $50 with shipping but i had very little down time. I will be using your competition from now on amcrest thanks for giving me such a hard time sending me a cheap little fan.

I just want to say that i purchased a 1080 hd 4 camera system from this merchant and have now spent a total of 3 days trying to get up and running. Multiple phone calls to india and amcrest in texas. Lied to multiple times. The remote viewing will not work, goes in and out on my lap top, forget getting it on your iphone, will not work on my desk top. Oh and the best excuse is that it is all my mac products that are the problem. Really you should stay as far away from amcrest as possible. This is a horrible experience i never would wish on anyone. This is an addendum to the first review. My live view has now gone from 3 seconds every frame to 25 seconds every frame without me doing anything to the recording speed. This means you can kick my front door in and walk the entire length of my yard and never even have your picture taken. Thank you amcrest for this wonderful chines product. My e-mails for support are now ignored. Requested tech support 4/17 now 4/22 no response. How in the gods name this product got over 100 5 star reviews is beyond me. They must be coming from china. Really folks bad, bad, bad, bad investment. Ps forget about the houston texas office. Can't trust them at all. They will tell you to input this specific extension to make you feel like you are getting special assistance and when you do you get a recording that says " good bye ". Just beautiful. The american public is getting a real piece of trash for their money with this system.

Received in what appeared to be excellent condition. However, after connecting all camera's, monitor, dvr, wires, etc. The dvr won't work! all it does is continuously beep and there's no display. To top it off, i don't even get a display on the monitor to trouble shoot the issue. I proceed to contact support via telephone but after hours of wait time. No one ever picked up the phone! . . Finally, support did contact me a couple of days after i sent an email to them. They also offered to help resolve the situation with the beeping and no display. It took longer than i wanted for the support but in the end, the dvr unit was replaced. I then hooked up the new unit and it worked for a couple of weeks. However, the new unit started rebooting every 5 minutes without notice and for now apparent reason at all. I've invested a lot of money in this system and to date (almost a year later) i have no working surveillance system! i'm currently pursuing the purchase of a different brand. . My suggestion to you, don't waste your money on this system. I've had two dvr units and neither of them worked properly. Unfortunately, i'll now end up having to purchase a new system. Of course, a totally different brand altogether.

P. Lisa, Oregon

This is the second amcrest dvr i purchased from online store. The first one continually re-booted but did so within online stores return period so i returned it and purchased another one. This one worked well for about 4 months and then would not retain the p2p setting, keeping it on-line. This prevented me from viewing my cameras remotely. After numerous contacts with amcrest they determined it was a problem with my dvr and set in motion a return and replace process. After sending the 20. 00 they required for a replacement they informed me that i would have to return the dvr to them prior to receiving a replacement. That requires me to be without a security system for up to 3 or 4 weeks, which i refuse to do. These dvr's are not dependable. Don't waste your money. . Update 8/18/17 - thanks to online store customer service my problems have been addressed. Online store has made it possible for me to purchase a replacement dvr and return my defective one. What a difference in the two units. While inserting the hard drive in the new dvr i could not help but notice the internal differences in the electronics. The noisy fan is gone. The circuitry is much different. I am not increasing the number of stars at this time as i have not had it installed long enough to see if it goes off line by itself. When i am convinced that this problem has been resolved i will provide another update and possibly increase the number of stars.

K. Alice, Worcestershire says

Do not buy amcrest. The dvr has known issues with the hard drive which will stop working after about a year of using. Amcrest will not honor its warranty policy if past 1 year, and their warranty is based on purchase date, not delivery date. So you the customer are responsible for any late shipments and amcrest will not accept their hard drive is defective. Just google "amcrest dvr hard drive issues" and you'll see many reports of their defective hard drives. . Amcrest is a shady chinese company with lots of junk electronics.

F. Weber, Swindon

I own an amcrest dvr so i ordered their camera but i could not get the camera to provide an image. I sent the camera back and ordered one from anran and it was plug and play. If you think i might have had a defective camera, think again. I ordered several amcrest cameras and none worked with their own system even with tech support. It may very well be a good camera but i'm totally frustrated with anything with amcrest on it. Nothing should be as difficult as this camera to get to work. The competitors cameras just plugged it and played perfectly.

This unit comes with all of the bells and whistles according to the documentation. However, it fails miserably. After hours upon hours of phone calls with tech support, having to buy another unit for them to ship to me to see if it was a defective unit (which both units had the same issues), being escalated to the 'engineers' and even the management when nothing would resolve the problem - they just simply quit responding. Dozens of emails and several months later i have two units (that i cannot get a response on returning) that do not perform as advertised (primarily motion detection is a joke). So, not only have i spent several hundred dollars for nothing i have more importantly lost countless hours trying to fix their stuff. . Motion detection sensitivity cannot be adjusted. You either are going to get 1000 emails/text messages/alerts a day or you'll get 0. There is no in between. This was the sole reason to purchase this unit for me. After this long (almost a year) and this many attempts to work with tech support (they've remoted into my machine and cannot get it to work either) i'm obviously disappointed. But, when they flat stop responding to emails or returning calls. That's just wrong. I just wanted a unit that worked or my money back.

1080p 4 channel 4 bullet cameras. . I don't even know where to start. . I had been poking around online store looking at and 'researching' these systems for a while until finally pulling the trigger on the system stated above. I can't tell you how excited i was. Key word: was. . I'll start off by saying that the packaging and product presentation was amazing. Really impressed. All of the hardware is really nice. The software on the other hand. Yikes. I'm pretty computer literate and good with tech stuff in general and it's a chore figure out what's what and where's what. Unless you are really familiar with surveillance systems or videography in general, you have a lot of terminology to brush up on before even attempting to navigate this thing. With that said, i ran into some issues after mocking everything up before the install and playing the settings once familiar. When trying to adjust the threshold and sensitivity settings in the motion detection regions screen (see what i mean? ), the dialogue box that pops up with the adjustment bars disappears with the slightest move of the mouse leaving you with nothing but the regions grid to play with. Not to mention it only allows me into the one region leaving the other 3 unusable. I tried different mouses (wired/wireless), used a tv and monitor, messed with settings. Nothing. I still didn't sweat it though because i had read so many reviews raving about their support line. So i called. Wtf. . From some cave in the middle east i was put on hold for the majority of the time until finally i was told that my issue was outside their capabilities and that i would have to email the manufacturer at support amcrest. Com. So i did. Wtf. . I emailed them 6/6/16 laying out in detail what i was seeing and what i was told on the phone and this is what i got in response on 6/9/16:. . "good afternoon , . . Thank you for contacting amcrest support, my name is mario and i'm the product support specialist here and i will do my best to assist you with any issues or questions you may be having. . I apologize for delay in responding. Has the issue been corrected? . . If not, please call us at 888. 212. 7538. This will allows to better assist you and troubleshoot the issue. . For our updated support hours please visit. . . . . Please let me know if you have any other questions, issues or concerns. . Thanks & have a great day. . Kind regards, . . Mario romero. Product support representative". . I kindly informed them that "no, my issue has not resolved itself" and that the number i'm supposed to call is the one that told me to email them. . There's other good and bad things about this system that i'll eventually go into detail about when i'm not on the toilet with an iphone and tingly feet. I just wanted to get this on here so people like me can see it before it's too late. Thankfully i didn't install it yet. It's just $500 pile of parts on the floor for now. . *edit 6/20/16*. Finally got a hold of someone that speaks decent english today and figured out the settings adjustment issue. Turns out that nothing is wrong with the dvr, its just funky the way it is set up. The dialog box disappears as i said before, but. It will come back and stay if you take the cursor the very top edge of the page. The guy that i talked to was super laid back and super helpful. Very happy with the support i finally got today, but super disappointed in the hoops that you have to jump through to get there. I'm bumping it up to 3 stars for the decent product.

W. June, Devon says

Starts up and can see video fine, but none of the dvr buttons work and the remote was dead too. I needed to do a reset and was unable to as you need to use the power button on the front of the unit. Calling amcrest for support was painful as i was on hold forever.

N. Wade, Hammersmith and Fulham

I purchased this item based on the "advertised" 2. 1 megapixel cameras and 3tb hard drive. The system was more expensive than most, here on online store, but for the quality it was worth it. When the package arrived the specs on the side of the box were 1. 0 mp cameras and as you can clearly see from my pic, a 2tb sticker was placed over the 3tb printing. I called online store support and after several minutes of investigation, the rep admitted that they have a long history of identical customer complaints with these systems therefore he could not reship because i would likely have the same experience. I wonder how many customers have not noticed and have overpaid for lesser specs?

C. Carolyn, Pennsylvania says

First off, this is not a full 100% dvr/nvr aka tribrid system. So what is a tribrid dvr? to make it short, a tribrid system is when you can run a analog bnc cable camera and an ip camera such as foscam, dahua, trendnet, hikvision, ect simultaneously. When i first received my amcrest tribrid dvr, i was under the impression that i can run all my ip cameras plus analog cameras at one time since it is an eight channel dvr/nvr. Unfortunately, that's not the case. You can only run two ip cameras max (channel 7 and 8) and i have five foscam ip cameras that i need to run on it. I called amcrest customer service and they told me that they do not know what is a tribrid dvr. Unbelievable. After explaining to the customer service what is a tribrid system mean, they apologize to me and stated that the company put out new products everyday without notifying them. Really? . The only thing they sell is security cameras product from what i see on their website. As for analog camera it works as it intended to. Nothing special. . I got the ip cameras (foscam fi931w) to work on the dvr/nvr, but its not stable. It works whenever it wanted to. Another issue i have is if i reboot the dvr, i have to setup the ip camera all over again, because it will not connect until i do the configuration again. For some reason, the dvr has the hue and sharpness setting reverse. So for example, if i were to change my sharpness setting it actually changing the hue color and vice versa. All these can be fix with a new firmware and i don't know if that will happen at the moment. . I bought four 1080p bullet cameras from amcrest to use with the amcrest dvr and the video quality is decent. Since it is only a 1mp 1080p, it can get very grainy (noisy) when running full screen. I was expecting to see an image as clear as my standard tv channel, but that didn't happen. For comparison, i also own a swann dvr 720p that i bought from sam club and imo the video quality is just as good as the 1080p amcrest camera. The swann dvr is more users friendly than the amcrest, but not as bad as zmode and zosi dvr. I have both dvr connected online remotely- which mean i can login into the dvr homepage and view the camera outside my network. I personally prefer swann dvr because there are more apps (tinycam pro, swann viewer, hikvison, ect) available that you can choose to view your cameras with on both apple and android devices compared to amcrest (amcrest lite viewer - only one that work) according to my test and trial. . I took 3 stars off because. 1. The item is not accurately describe. False advertisement. They stated that its a full dvr/nvr but you are only limit to run two ip cameras max. Btw my foscam is a 960p but i can only run it at 720p. 2. Customers service are not trained or either lack of knowledge about their products that is being sold online. 3. 1080p is not as sharp and clear as other camera (hikvision, dahua, trendnet). 4. Firmware is not polish. Hue and sharpness setting are opposite from each other. 5. No on/off ir light. - this can be a problem for some people because let say it dusk outside the ir will not kick on until it stop detecting light. . Amcrest and foscam are partnership and my foscam fi9831w 960p is sharper than the 1080p amcrest bullet camera.

I purchased this to replace/upgrade an older swann 480p system. I was able to reuse the existing bnc wiring, which was a plus, but the owner's manual can be a bit vague in some sections. . When i first connected it to a tv, there was no picture. I tried calling them at 11am on saturday, and received the message that their offices are closed, when on the box it states to call their number 7 days a week for support. So i went online to their website, and found out that you have to connect it first to a computer monitor in order to change the display setting to 1280x720 so that it would work with my tv. This could have easily been written in the manual somewhere around the first few pages to eliminate confusion. I was lucky enough to own a 46" smart tv to fix the settings, but you can imagine the hassle this would be for somebody that doesn't have one, nor a computer monitor to connect this to. . Setting up the motion record was also a challenge. The guide isn't very clear about how to set it to only record in motion, and how to set the sensitivity, and threshold settings. This was something else that you have to go to their website to get a better understanding of, but i'm still having problems with it recording. It will detect motion, and record for 1-3 seconds, then stop recording for about 5-10 seconds before it'll start to record again for another 1-3 seconds. I could walk from my garage all the way to the mailbox, which is about 50', but it would only show me coming out of the garage, and then standing by the mailbox. The only time that the motion detection would work correctly is if i was within 20' of the camera, and that's with the sensitivity all the way at 100, and threshold at 0. Unfortunately that means that somebody could walk up to my mailbox, steal the mail, and not be seen on video. . Then trying to use the playback feature for a certain camera can be a bit confusing. It's not as simple as selecting playback, and then selecting the camera followed be the file list. You have to set too many parameters first in order to achieve one simple thing, or else it plays all the files for all the cameras, and keeps looping all the files. Another issue with playback was that while it was set up to 24 hour record it would also skip recording for a few seconds here and there, which means that it might miss recording something important. . Sunday morning the system was still somewhat working, but in the afternoon camera 1 started developing lines that was distorting the picture, and setting off the motion detector. I took it down, unplugged it, then replugged it, and it starting working again, but the record feature on all the cameras was still iffy. So i took them down, and put up the old swann system, which works flawlessly, but has less than par picture quality for the technology that's available today. So my search shall continue for a better 1080p system. . On the plus side, the picture is outstanding 1080p quality, which beats my old 480p system, but that was the only thing good about it. . Final verdict. This is the absolute worst purchase that i have ever made, and it's being returned. Don't waste your money on this one. . * update 10. 23. 2015 *. I purchased a new swann dvr4-4500 with 4 pro-t855 camera system for about $380 from their website. This system works great, and plugs into the existing bnc cables that were already there. It has very good picture quality for both night and day, and it only took me about 2 hours to set it all up. You will still have to plug it into a computer monitor, or smart tv to change the video setting to either 720, or 1080 for it to work with a regular tv, but it has been working flawlessly for the past month.

This product is excellent as other products i bought from this company. They offer excellent quality for a good price. . Unfortunately, this the item i ordered. This time was said to have a 3 tb pre-installed hard-drive, as written on the description, but when i received the order, i found it has only a 2 tb hard-drive. . I am rating this product 1 star because of the misleading information so customers can be aware.

U. Erickson, Darlington

This amcrest dvr works but there are some things to make me deduct two stars. First off there is a a bad solder joint or something that makes it make a whining sound unless i apply some slight downward pressure on one of the video input bnc connections, does not seem to matter which one. The cooling fans are rather loud and always on, no temperature switch to turn them on as needed. . The last and for me the most negative item is the android app that amcrest supplies to view this dvr requires access to way too much information on my phone. Why on earth does a dvr viewing app need to know my identity, media files, access to the camera, microphone and device id and call information? ! ? on top of that the app sucks battery all day long no matter if i have the app shut down or not. Makes me think that, combined with the permissions it demands, that amcrest is spying on it's customers. Completely unacceptable for me. In fact i am seriously considering returning this dvr because of the spying app. . I will say that the app on the pc does in fact work well for me but again i have to wonder if it is not also sending private information to amcrest as it's running on my pc.

I am a well read, semi-electrical geek, and am very self reliant and way better than average mechanically overall. And just framed and prewired the house i built myself to include lots of smart "stuff", which was to include a video camera system outside as a deterrent. . First issue, no remote (with the 4 channel model) as indicated it "may" include. Second, there is zero indication when purchased that you also must have a permanently attached monitor to operate the system. That said, in the vast direction manual, each setup screen stipulates (paraphrasing now) "select the options you wish and click on next". There are about 100 screens, sub screens and such. Few of them are in generally known nomenclature, so i had to look up a few in google what the reference means, and still have no idea what many of the settings are for. So in most cases i left them alone in the factory settings. . Second, aside from the 3 point font in the manual (no, really! ), there is no mention on how to remove the ball camera to access the 4 screw holes from the inside. Had to figure that out (they pop out from underneath, with force, but readily. Then force "pop" back in after the base is installed). As mentioned, i had prewired the house with cat-6, 8-conductor wire, which the customer service folks confirmed would be acceptable instead of coax. I had to buy the bnc and power jacks, male and female, from another source as they are not available from this company. They send a boatload of wire with pre-attached end connections, and assume you're running it freely after the fact. Nope. Additionally, i installed soffit outdoor boxes with the equivalent to a light block to be a decorative termination point for the vinyl soffit at each box. Other devices are in the soffit areas with similar preparation and it really does dress it up. However, there is no option for connecting these to anything other than a solid flat surface with the wire stuck out of a side slot. Visible. Which was not my option. No base extender, base plate option for any soft of junction box, round or otherwise, was available anywhere. . Third, the cameras appear to work well enough. However the ability to have them zoom, pan etc. Is not an option with these cameras, and it would be useful if in the product description it gave an option to upgrade to this or that camera that could do that, offer a base flange, or remote control, monitor inclusion etc. . Lastly, the unit is now in place in a closet, where the router is located (distribution of all cable, ethernet and telco distribution takes place from this closet from in-wall panels, and the camera feed cat-6 is also prewired to a shelf in that closet with separate a/c for that purpose). The monitor is now in place on a wire shelf, allowing ventilation for the box and monitor, and the 2 tb hard drive whines like a child whose halloween candy had just been confiscated! i have 4 pc's and 2 laptops, and none of them make anywhere near that much noise. I can't imagine it lasting very long with the friction that is causing the noise, as whatever is causing that noise must self destruct sooner than later. . Note that setting the system up on your pc, setup on your android or ios smartphone and frankly the setup on an internal network will most likely require you go to the company youtube link found in the amcrest setup disk. But even with that it took 2 phone calls to get it right on the android so it was viewable live when needed. . The moral to this story, i gave the unit 3 stars because it functions well, reacts well to motion and works well in low light. The camera resolution is very good, the overall installation of the cameras themselves is not complicated once you figure out the orientation of the lens ball must have the little green led perfectly plumb to the ground (or your image will be skewed). So with overall product, support data and advertising aside, it's good. What remains to be seen is the longevity of the hard drive with the racket it's causing on it's own. So beware of this. . Good luck, and happy camera installing!

Don't buy amcrest! . That being said here's my story. Owned this system for about a little over a year, dead already dvr overheated when cooling fans quit. Contacted company was told out of warranty nothing they could do for me. Didn't even offer to fix it or sell me parts to fix it. Was offered a measly $10 discount off of a new $200 dvr and a $50 discount off of a $900 new system. All their customer service did was pass you from email to email with people saying, " i understand that there's nothing i can do for you you're out of warranty". Upon further research on their forum site i found multiple people with the same issues and the same bad customer service. The system did work and it worked pretty well at first the cameras were clear and the online doing access was pretty good until the system stopped working which made it all a moot point. I think i found a way on youtube to repair the defective cooling fans. I don't think my system has been destroyed just kept shutting off from overheating. Please save your money and go with a different company, it wouldn't be so bad if the equipment failed if customer service was there to support you which they're not. The funny thing is they keep sending me out rate our service, i keep sending back awful reviews but i keep getting them from each person who emailed me. Sorry for the long-winded explanation but i hope to save someone else there trouble and money. Final thing. Don't buy amcrest!

System works as advertised. Plug the cameras in and they just work. The clarity is good. Night vision is ok - not great. Dvr box fans are noticeably louder indicating a cost reduced or low cost design product for this application. I work in the it industry and recognize good user interface practice when i see it. This system's interface, while simple, is not that intuitive or well explained. If i had to guess, the ui was designed about 12-15 yrs ago. . Without some of the videos, it would have been more difficult. The instruction manual is not well written. It lacks definitions of terms and implications of various settings. For example, the for regions used to alter the alarm triggers on each camera could be explained a lot better. More specifically, you discuss threshold and sensitivity without clearer relation to object sizes and velocity correlated to those settings. You should use a table to describe this. Object, distance from camera, change in position over time and relative settings would be a start. Note to the maker - putting a lot of effort into a clearer well written manual is very important. Overall i like the product, but it has a look and feel that is over a decade old. Would really like to see an upgrade in user experience.
