Review for fullhd video security system weatherproof

Price was $279.99. Love this unit! recently installed one inside a dwelling for a client and most recently (today) two more, one under a covered porch and the other on the outside of a house. These are power over ethernet cameras that plug into a switch or router and are completely independent and do not require a dedicated recorder necessarily. You get 4 hours of free recording in the amcrest cloud and then it loops over. You also have the option to get emails, push alerts through the amcrest view pro app for motion detection and video tampering, downloading to a nas or through an ftp drive, built in night vision up to 100 feet as well plus many other options. . Basically the camera is physically mounted by unscrewing the top white ring above the word "amcrest" in the product photo there you have four screw holes to use provided phillips screws and drywall anchors if needed. Then feed your cable through hole in side of the structure or into a junction box if you're mounting it on a electrical junction box (a 2"x2" junction box works well for this. ) one side note here, if you are putting the cable through a structure or junction box for a clean, flush install you will need a 3/4 inch paddle bit. The ethernet end of the pigtail connector is significantly thick. A 3/4 inch hole fits the connector perfectly. . If you do not wire through a wall/ structure/ junction box, the 8" pigtail connector can be routed out from under that four screw base which has four slots to slip cable under. After you have mounted the four screw baseplate and have decided where you're routing the cable, the cameras has the middle section that you can see below the product image's word, amcrest. The camera sits in this and this is what is screwed in with ring that has "amcrest" printed on it. The camera can be tilted only manually, no motorized pan tilt zoom or one/ two way audio. . This camera can be powered via two methods: a 12 volt power supply right at the camera if you're fortunate enough for a convenient outlet near by. However most the time when in an attic or conduit, etc. This is not the case. Most often people will use poe or power over ethernet. Poe will input the correct voltage for the camera over the ethernet line you are running for the data/ router connection. This is extremely easy and just takes plugging your ethernet cable from camera into a "poe injector" or poe switch, both of which can be found here on online store and then from that particular device to the router then you're set! . . Overall this is a great camera and you get a lot of functionality from the webpage (gui) after finding the ip address through the provided software or your router webpage. These cameras are ip66 water and dust ingress protected and with the cast aluminum body these are not cheap feeling in the least. I love this model and brand of cameras and would definitely recommend them. . Disclaimer: i did not get a discount or free product in return for my honest review. I am just a nerd at heart! thanks!

Foreword

These were a spontaneous purchase to upgrade a 720p camera system i had previously installed. They look a lot better than the previous. I'm using these with blue iris and it works great! easy setup, if you know your network. I used an ip camera scanner website to find mine once they were installed. Once i found them, i logged into each camera and assigned them static addresses. Installed 4 so far and will be buying 2 more in the future. Sometimes the clips skip, or hang up but only for a second or two. Not a deal killer though. Night vision is good as well, i can see what i wanted to see with no problems. In short: if you are not technically inclined, and do not feel comfortable with things like replacing a cellphone screen yourself, you should get someone else to install it for you. After it is set up and works, it is a fantastic product! . . I am a software engineer, specializing in embedded. For those of you who do not know what that means, i make smart devices what they are - smart. I am not bragging, but rather trying to help you understand the basis for the things i am going to say. . Physically:. * the product comes well packaged. * allows you to connect either using poe, or feed power through a separate connection. * the camera has neither any onboard storage nor an option for one (some people like having that). * the camera is solidly made, and if installed correctly will be reasonably vandal proof. For example, it is impossible to cut the wires without dismounting the camera first. The case is full aluminium, so it will probably stand a few swings with a bat (i did not test this, but i can estimate from my experience with other products. ). . Conclusion: physical set-up is thought through and easy enough. . Software:. * the web interface for the camera is well made and exposes lots of options. The live video feed plugin does not work on chromium on linux, but that's too much to ask, i think. Otherwise, no bugs. * amcrest apps are easy to download and set up. * while setting up two of those cameras, i had the same problem - after changing the default password through the amcrest android app, the camera would not let me in. Yes, i have checked the password multiple times. I called support, who very very prompt and helpful (although i had to go through the "is it plugged in? " questions). Their solution? take the camera apart, and use a jumper wire to connect two points on the pcb to factory reset it. You need a t-5 (or t6? ) screwdriver to open it. Then, you need to take the upper pcb off that holds the ir leds. The desiccant bags are going to fall out. Then find the right spots (google it), and use a jumper wire to connect them, while the camera is powered. Test it out, and reassemble. Don't forget to put the desiccant bags back in, in a way that they don't jam in the opening, don't block the leds or the camera sensor, and don't have the ability to cut into the wires. Then put the case back together and put the screws back in securely. Now hope you assembled everything well. Let's hope it is still watertight, and you did not introduce some damage which will show up in later use. Did i lose you back there? yep, like i said, if you are not comfortable replacing a screen or a digitizer on a cell phone, do not do this yourself. . Amcrest, i appreciate that you hid the reset points like this for security, but you need to make the product more robust so users won't have to get to those every time the camera is set up! . * once the above mess was sorted out, i was finally able to view the camera through the amcrest view pro app. I didn't set up any port forwarding or anything like that. So how come the amcrest app has access to the camera? ! this camera "phones home", this is how. If amcrest servers get hacked, or some other attack used on the camera (like man-in-the-middle to impersonate amcrest server) your feed will be visible to the hackers. Especially if you are a female, do not put this camera where it could see you naked. This camera is hackable to anyone with intermediate skills. * speaking of security, there are mentions on the internet that amcrest support can "remote-in" to your nvr (not sure if this also applies to cameras) to help you set it up and fix stuff for you. This means there is a backdoor to access the camera/nvr! once there is a backdoor, you never know who will walk through it. See advice above. * amcrest view pro app is very well made, but it will kill your battery in a matter of hours, even if you told it to quit. Amcrest, this is a serious bug! make sure the app stops streaming and actually quits when you tell it to! for users, make sure you kill the app after you quit. * other than that, the camera supports onvif and other new standards, and will work with all the new software, including zoneminder, if you want to set up your own recording system and link it to the rest of the smarthome. . Conclusion: this is a great camera as far as software goes, but the security is a huge concern. . All in all, i think this is a great product. Amcrest needs to work on the setup bug though. -K. PROS
  • Easy to configure via web interface. Once configured and installed this thing has a crystal clear picture and very good wide angle coverage. You won't miss a thing. I have mine configuered to connect with blue iris and can't get over how good the picture is compared to my other "hd wide angle camera"
  •  so, due to me on the go so much i figured it'd be best to have some security cams in place just in case some thing were to happen. I also have pets and just property in general that is important to protect to me. So, this camera has wifi and can be used wireless so to speak but i did still use the ethernet cable to power the camera. I did also purchase the unit box so currently am not going to be using the wifi at this time. However i did try it out and it's as simple as downloading the app on my phone and tablets as well as signing up for free cloud storage online and scanning the number that is located on the camera itself, i happen to do all of that after i mounted it on the side of my house which was a pain standing on the ladder outside so i highly recommend that if you are in fact going to use the wifi or app features you definitely might want to do that set up before you mount it if you are mounting it in a higher location like i did. Either way set up was pretty easy regardless of the method of use wifi or hooking it to a box unit ( dvr device) like i did. I also admire the quality of this camera because it actually has great picture and video vary clear image even when i zoom in . The amount of space this camera covers is amazing. Now lets talk about the mounting process, for me this was simple i had a little bit of help because i had to drill holes into my house which was not problem at all really. Over all the drilling took about 10 minutes then i hide the cord along my siding, so easy mounting process over all and which by the way this comes with everything for the mounting all you need is a drill and drill bit depending on where you're going to mount it as well. Angles are great flexibility is also great with this it seems vary sturdy and i'm confident that this will last year round .
CONS
  • I purchased three of these cameras to upgrade from an outdated analog system. . I set up the cameras via an amcrest nvr which was very simple to do. . Once installed and operating, the camera performs very well. The video is bright with good colors in all lighting even at dawn and dusk. If you mount the camera near a night light you will get a good color image at night. In pitch black darkness the ir's kick in for a very good black and white picture. . Except for the following faults i would give it five stars for performance:. . 1. The camera must be disassembled to mount it which would be fine if one could get it apart. The metal ring on two cameras was completely seized up and would not unscrew. Two large pipe wrenches might have opened the camera but i didn't want to scratch and dent a brand new device under warranty. So, i made a fixture with a scrap of wood and two nails locked in a vise to hold the base solidly so i could turn the ring with both hands. With much back and forth twisting i finally got the rings to unscrew. I put a small amount of lithium grease on the threads and screwed the rings back on and off several times then the rings seemed to work ok. The threads on the rings are very rough and make a grating sound when rotating the ring. . 2. After operating just fine the system rebooted per a scheduled reboot and i lost one camera with a message, "the account has been locked. " i worked on this for half a day and could not unlock the camera. So, i called amcrest tech support and was informed that the only recovery for this was to do a factory reset on the camera. This is where it went from slight aggravation to total absurdity. In order to reset this camera one must disassemble the camera, plug-in power to it and short two tiny pc board pads for 15 seconds with a paperclip. Amcrest has an instruction set with pictures showing how to do this. I think this is insane to expect non-technical consumers to perform this reset. I'm an engineer and i think it's crazy. Firstly, these cameras are meant to be mounted outdoors so one must get up on a ladder and bring the camera down. The screws holding the camera together are t10 torx-not a problem for me but the average person probably won't have a set of torx drivers. The camera is poe so to get power to it one must do a balancing act on a ladder or find a way to plug it in directly to the poe source. My poe network switch is on a high shelf in the garage so either way i must be on a ladder. If one slips with the paperclip it could well short something in the camera and render it useless. Amcrest needs to do better than this! . . I removed the scheduled weekly reboot hoping i won't have to reset the camera ever again. If resetting becomes a routine activity i will install a push button on the camera. A foscam camera i purchased a while ago had a pigtail with a reset button. Amcrest, which was foscam, should have continued this implementation.
  • The physical cameras that come with this package are awesome, however, i could not recommend this amcrest product to a friend without feeling extremely guilty due to the extremely poor quality software amcrest provides and here's why i feel that way. . 1) amcrest software consistently locks you out. The software amcrest provides will overwrite the portion of memory where user account passwords are stored once the hard drive is approaching full, hence - you get locked out and you are unable to log back into the nvr. There is no alternative methods provided for resolving this yourself. You must contact their technical support, provide proof of purchase, wait 24-48 hours, and then they will provide you a super secret special password (only they can generate) which allows you to log back in, but only if you attach a monitor and mouse to the box. This is extremely inconvenient if, for example, you already began using your product by installing all your cameras and mounting the box in a tucked away secure location that you expected to access remotely going forward. . 2) does not play well without dhcp:. If you try and set a static ip address on the nvr it will quite frequently revert itself to using dhcp, even when you set it to 'not' auto-reboot (which is not the default). Don't like trying to figure what ip address it will change to all the time and dont trust ddns? . Then this box is not for you. Don't care, know, or want to use these features you say? you will start to care if you want to see your videos when you're away, or, when you get tired of making 253 guesses each time it changes (255-2) and your app/browser stops working but you still want to use the product you just paid for. . 3) you can only access the web gui via on the amcrest nvr by downloading and installing a program which is only 'officially' supported by using internet explorer - made by microsoft (nough said? ). Oh yea, and you will get prompted to download/install this small program almost every single time you launch your browser and point it at the admin page, this gets really fun. . Side note: you can still access the nvr gui via an alternative, non-standard, web port via your mobile device. But only when it feels like working, only when you don't feel like make 253 guesses about its new ip address, only when the hard drive is not approaching full, and only if you are at home and connected to your home wifi network, and only if these two happen to be on the same subnet (f proxy arp man). . But atlas! you can overcome all these obstacles by simply signing up for the amcrest subscription based cloud services and this will take care of all these issues for you. You don't have to do anything to workaround all these issues with a cloud based subscription. Except make 5 easy payments of $100 every 3 days for 4 weeks on a monthly recurring 1hr basis. You can cancel anytime for a small $300 cancellation fee, 5 easy payments of $50 (50% off limited time bonus! ) after your annual subscription service contract expires in 3 years, and only if you call now, 3, 2, 1. Yay you missed it! . . So last paragraph is not true by any means, maybe one. They do offer some subscription based cloud like sounding service. With a few quick google searches it's overly apparent many identical software issues have been repeating themselves for a while. And it seems consistently clear that the manufacturer has put in little effort to resolving and preventing these issues over the past decade (thank you google cache! ). . All these home security nvr boxes are about the same, regardless of the manufacturer. The primary difference between these type boxes is the software that runs on them and as an average consumer i want to find reliable software with the fewest issues made by people who try to care, at least a tiny little bit, and maybe make a few attempts to improve/fix/maintain it year after year. . If you take 1 min and google search the first issue that you will run into with this software you will find many results for the same issue, year after year, going back many years. Nobody working for this manufacturer could take 1 minute to do the same thing? at least acknowledge some of these same issues have existed for years? the same pattern repeating for almost a decade didn't throw up a single red flag to anybody over there? customer sat, brand loyalty, strange terms to bring up at the old round table discussions are they? probably best to ignore them anyway. Blindly shipping boxes with other's mid-grade hardware and adding poorly made software on top seems to be such an amazingly unique long term business plan, how will we ever find another manufacturer with such an innovative approach and long term ambitions. . Goooooo team!
  • This review is for this product: amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe bullet ip security camera, ip2m-842ew. . I am writing this so you can avoid making the same mistake i did. I am an electrical engineer working in it industry. I thought i can handle this product and set it up correctly. But i was wrong. I wish i did more research before buying this and not waste my time/money. . As other reviewers said, there are lots of problems in their softwares. But for me, the deal breakers were the followings:. 1. The smart phone viewer software (amcrest view pro) as well as the web based viewer . Do not show any screen (stays black and shows connection error) if the substream channel (640x480) is off. In fact, it only shows the substream video, not the main (1080p) video. I found out this the hard way. There is no specific warning message on why the video doesn't show up when the substream is off. So, you cannot save network traffic by turning off unnecessary low quality substream channel. 2. This product (ip2m-842ew) is lacking nvr feature, so you cannot capture video automatically into your nvr or pc with their surveillance pro software. It only supports ftp or their cloud service (4hr free, which is too short. Anything more costs subscription fee). And even if you set up the ftp, you cannot watch the video clips easily, because the file format is proprietary. You need to use their software to watch them, but the software is not intutive. Their cloud service seems working fine. So it feels like they intentionally made their software crappy to lure customers to use their cloud service with costly monthly fee ($6 or more per camera). . I think this is enough info for you. Beware.

This amcrest ip2m-844e has been the perfect camera for my needs for a decent poe camera at a good price. The camera will do full 1080p at 30fps, which is perfect for home or business users. The camera is easy to install using the separate poe injector or using a poe switch. My camera immediately pulled a dhcp address and i was able to log into the web interface and make the configuration changes i needed to make. You can access the camera in many different ways: via the web, an app on your smartphone, or a windows application. All three methods worked well in my experience and i was happy with the software side of the camera. . The hardware is very sturdy, and the camera seems to be built to last. I had no issues using the supplied mounting template to get my camera mounted and operational. I am using a third party application to monitor my cameras via the rtsp feed. The one single issue i had was trying to get the camera out of the mount. It is a very tight fit but will come out with some coaxing and no tools are needed. This is not detailed anywhere in the manual or online. . This camera is perfect for the home user (or business on a budget) that is looking for a simple and high quality poe camera. I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review, but i will be purchasing another for the back yard of my home.

Click to see NoticeAmcrest Security Weatherproof Smartphone Included (amnv20m8 4b b)"I am buying a series of these cameras to upgrade an older analog system with zoneminder. They are fantastic replacements for my old analog setup; not too large, easy to install and set up (hardware and software - though i'm technical so i may not be the best person to judge), and so far they are working beautifully. . A few things i've noted:. . The ring can be tough to tighten and loosen. A piece of rubber in your hand can help grip to get it loose the first time. I took another reviewer's idea and put a little grease on the threads and worked them back and forth - a lot - and that seemed to help. You'll want to do this because fighting with that ring while you're up on a ladder or reaching up on the ceiling isn't fun. . One flaw is that the back of the camera (where the cable comes out) maintains the spherical shape of the camera. What this means is that when you mount the base, you need to take into account where the cord sticks out of the camera based on where you want to position it, because there are some positions you can't reach with the camera as the cord hits one of the four mounting points inside the base. You'll know what i'm talking about after you open it up if i'm not being clear enough. The solution is to figure out which way you plan to aim the camera and be sure to mount the base such that the opposite direction from that aiming point is between two of the mount points inside the bracket. I've had better cameras which allow for "infinite" adjustment once mounted, but that is definitely not the case here. . I like that the software forces you to change the password as soon as you set up the camera. This is a good practice and will go a long way toward preventing devices like these from becoming hacked or part of iot botnets, provided these cameras don't have hard-coded root credentials that we're not aware of and are accessible through a firewall. . As i mentioned, these cameras work nicely with zoneminder, and having poe is awesome. I put poe switches on either end of the house so i don' have to run wires nearly as far, and running cat5e is so much easier than dealing with those combined av/power wires on the analog cameras. If you go poe be sure to buy plenum rated full copper cable. Don't use cca cable; it's risky with poe applications. I read on the box that these cameras draw up to 4. 4 watts (i think); i have yet to see them draw that much even with ir on, but i'm only using 720p, a fairly low frame rate, and i turned off the sub stream, etc. So maybe i'm saving some power that way. . Image quality is great (coming from analog, though, i know there's a huge wow factor, like when you got your first hdtv and saw your first ota high def broadcast. There's a bit of fisheye effect toward the edges, but i really like having the wide field of view."

(0) Question: Is there poe ports on nvr?

(1) Question: Can i run 3 of the poe cameras on a 50w poe switch?

(2) Question: Can the led lights be turned off? i use external ir illuminators, to avoid having the cameras' ir lights attract insects which trigger recordings.

WD Purple 1TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10PURZ

This hard drive is better than the one you might probably get when you buy an dvr system. It was an upgrade to the drive that failed in my surveillance system, and has been working great since i installed it. Picture quality is better on playback also.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

This was exactly what i needed. I went from a 500 gb hard drive that came with my dvr security system that recorded only 3 days of continuous 24:7 hd 1080i to hopefully about 3 weeks of recording. Installation was literally a breeze. 5 min job at most and plug and play. Very pleased. -Notice from X. Isabel, Blackpool

- O. WimbishWe buy these for our surveillance dvrs with 16 hd cameras. Have been using them since they came out and simply love them. Less expensive than the wd black and very reliable! . We have used 1, 2, and 3 tb up to now. Our software does not support the other large sizes. . We have been building computers since 2001 and find that wester digital is the most reliable and dependable hdd out there. Period.

So far so good! i bought this to upgrade the existing wd caviar green drive in our laview security camera dvr, since it was only 500gb. That fills up pretty quickly once you add more cameras and max out the video quality. I picked the wd purple drive since it is described as being surveillance-grade and built for 24/7 use. Hopefully it holds up to that and lasts for a while. I have a caviar black in one of our tivos, and another caviar black in my thinkpad laptop. No problems with wd drives so far.

Amcrest Ultra HD 4MP Video Security System AMNV40M8-4B-B

I bought this system for my shop and it works perfectly. It was easy to set up and the cameras are amazing both day and night. I have the nv4432e for the house and is also excellent. I highly recommend amcrest and first technologies. The shipping was quick and packaging was great. I am very happy with these purchases. They exceeded my expectations.

This amcrest nvr transmits ultra-high quality 4mp hd video over poe at long range, without the need for camera power outlet access. It works with virtually any onvif compatible ip camera, built for amcrest ip cameras with limited support for foscam, dahua, arecont vision, axis, bosch, brickcom, canon, honeywell, panasonic, pelco, samsung, sanyo, sony, vivotek and others.

Great product. Works good. Installation was a breeze. I had trouble installing the software on a remote computer mac . I called tech support and spoke with nelson. Great guy. He had me up and running in about ten minutes. I could not be happier. I would recommend this product.

- . TerryPurchased directly from amcrest. We did have help installing but installers left before setting up software on computer. Called and rec'd great/patient assistance from derek. He was excellent. Giving 4 stars as still working on some kinks and how to view recordings on the phone app - i ran out of time. . Was disappointed to find that the software erases a full 10 days every 10 days. Meaning, on the 9th day, you can see 9 days but on the 10th day - only the 10th day and then start all over again. Seems ridiculous. Can still download earlier files from the nvr but must download pretty large files from the day/time you want before viewing them. Just seems weird that it's not a progressive 10 days of erasing - so can always have the last 10 days to view. Pretty inconvenient. But, cameras work great - great picture and easy to view live.

Very difficult to understand how to set up and operate if you are not techy. Also, doesn't have an easy way to set up and view from your phone as many other home security cameras do. They are very attractive cameras and the resolution is fantastic. Just wish they were easier to operate.

WD Purple 3TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD30PURZ

I purchased this drive to supplement my amcrest nvr and 4 camera setup. The drive installed in perfect condition and was simple to install. The packaging was retail quality and i've had the drive recording my cctv setup for the past 3 weeks with absolutely no issues. The drive seems to keep up with all of my camera feeds and playback is as good as i had hoped. I would definitely recommend this disk drive to anyone installing their own cctv system.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

I got this to increase my recording capacity for my directv dvr hr44/500 along with the anker usb 3. 0 & esata to sata external hard drive docking station the install was a breeze, just slide the wd purple hard drive into the anker or the docking station of your choosing, connect the esata cable from the anker/docking station to the directv dvr esata port (make sure dvr is turned off by unplugging it), turn on the anker/docking station, then plug in and turn on the directv dvr. You'll see the dvr find then format the new drive and you're all set. If you have any issues after you restart the dvr just press the small red button (reset button) located behind the small door on the front right side of the dvr hr44/500 where the access card slides in. This should fix any issues you may have so try this first before trying any thing else. Now enjoy the extra storage capacity. Why do it this way instead of buying a standard external hard drive? most external hard drives are not designed to run for long periods of time but the wd purple drives are designed to run 24/7 and it also handles video and multiple streams of video better than the standard external hard drives. With recording multiple movies/shows at a time and hours of recording and playback this setup will last a lot longer than the standard external drives. If you read the reviews for external drives that are being used with dvr's you'll find a good many of the bad reviews complain about failures occurring within the first year. After a lot of research for something that was dependable and verified to work with my directv hr44/500 dvr i found this setup on several online forums along with numerous recommendation for the western digital red and purple hard drives. Just keep a couple of thing in mind. First when you press the power off button on your dvr you just put it into standby so recording and guide updates can be done. That's why you need to unplug the dvr or you can run into issues. I do recommend using the reset button after you install and format the drive just to make sure everything is working as it should. Also the internal dvr hard drive can not be seen or used while you have the external drive connected to the dvr. The internal hard drive content does not get deleted when you install an external hard drive. To switch from the external drive to the internal drive you need to unplug the dvr, turn off the external drive, then restart the dvr. Now you can watch whatever you may have on the internal drive. Keep in mind anything you record will record on the internal drive until you switch back to the external drive. This setup is not just an economical alternative for a standard external hard drive but it's far better than any standard esata external hard drive you could buy in this price range. One other tip i learned is the only thing that seems to fail on the docking stations is the power button. Many recommended to unplug the docking station instead of using the power button. I have mine plugged into a battery backup with surge and it also regulates output to a consistent 120 volts so i'm not worried about causing any issues by unplugging and then plugging it back in rather than using the power button. You could use a power strip and turn off the power strip instead of using the power button/switch on your docking station. -Notice from B. Shawna, Minnesota

You need determine your needs before you purchase a hard drive. Quite simply, they are not all the same. This is a reliable drive, and it's the one you need to purchase if you plan on recording security cameras. I've been piecing together nvrs to record uhd (4k) images from ip cameras. I had originally planned on purchasing one of those 4-8 security camera units available at some of the membership stores. The cameras wouldn't work, but i curious to know what hds were used by these companies. When i opened up the nvr i immediately saw a western digital purple drive. . The purple drive is rated for continuous recording, with minimum chance of failure, in a security system setup. If you check the western digital site you can see which drives are best for which use. . I've been pleased with the wd purple drive, it has a large capacity, and it has the ability to continuously write information from many cameras simultaneously. I would recommend this wd purple drive to others. . I hope you find this review helpful.

- D. CampbellFirst of all, i knew from the start that i was going to buy a wd drive. Of my past 30 consumer grade hard drives, all of my wd drives lasted until i decided to take them out of service for larger drives. This compared to the two hitachi and two seagate drives that either developed bad sectors or component level failures. . It was really a toss up between wd red and wd purple for me. I wanted to try the new drive out and have been pleased thus far. One key factors in my choice to purchase this drive was that it supported tler. I don't currently have it in a raid, but i didn't want to limit myself. . Gary e peterson said it best in his wd red review explaining tler, "time limited error recovery - where the hard drive assumes it is part of an array, assumes there is redundancy, and is not afraid to quickly tell the host controller that it just can't complete the current i/o request. ". . Both wd red and purple have tler. They both have 3 year warranty. Red has a listed mtbf of 1, 000, 000 hours and purple is not listed. Purple is rated for 300, 000 load/unload cycles vs red's 600, 000 cycles. Purple edges out red in noise, 26 dba vs 28 dba while seeking. . This drive is very new to the market and my drive bay. :-) i will update my review after a while of using the hard drive.

Using the drive in an 8-channel dvr. This hd is quiet! records and plays back. Good value. The absence of 'funny noises' coming from the hd leads me to believe it will continue working for a long time. No jumpers were required to get it to work in the dvr. Recorded/played right out of the box.

So far this drive has been performing great in my network video receiver. My setup so far is only 1 camera, so i cant really comment on performance as any hard drive can support 1 camera. I have had great luck with wd hdds in the past and hope that reliability is still true to this day. I will update my review in the future when i have more cameras.

This is a terrific drive. I have had great luck with wd drives and this one is no exception. I bought a mybooklive and a seagate black armor at the same time a few years ago. The seagate has been replaced twice under warranty and finally died out of warranty. I bought this drive and put it in the seagate box and it works great! i use this drive in a 24/7 operation and put a small fan on the case as seagate did not do that. It stays very cool with just a 30 mm ball bearing fan. The drive is quiet and fast.

Hard drive is very cool running and quiet, perfect for security cameras and nas system (i use it for both). I really don't know what the difference between the purple and red drives is but the both seem to work the same as far as quiet and cool. They load files quickly and stream very reliably. I like wd hard drives and have not had any trouble so far with them.

Excellent surveillance drive (4tb), video playback seems smoother than my genaric drive received with my nvr. Logged a few hundred hours and no errors, stays cool as well. -Notice from P. Meghan, Tennessee

We buy these for our surveillance dvrs with 16 hd cameras. Period.

- D. NevaBought this for just being a media serving drive for its 24hr usage build, its been working well for over 1. 5 years. I have had very bad experiences with getting a brand new larger drive, consolidating my media files, only to have the new drive to fail in a short time, losing media that unfortunately was not backed up yet.

I purchased this drive to go with my new netgear centria n900 dual band gigabit wireless router with 3. 5" storage bay (wndr4700). I have this set up as an internal wireless lan at my home and store all my video and music content on this drive. With the n900 wireless this does for me more than any dvr out there can since i can access it from any device in my house including my desktop. Great combination. My plan is to add in a couple wireless surveillance cameras to the setup in the near future, and i expect it to continue to work just as good for that purpose as it does for my multimedia streaming.

This product is super! . I installed the non hd version of this on one of my properties . Boy do i hate it after installing this! the quality is so much better and clearer - worth the small cost to upgrade. . The software they made to operate both the device and for mobile phones to use it remotely is well written. . I will be buying this again when my needs are there -Notice from F. Campbell, Hounslow

Easy to set up, connect cameras and get started. The mobile app allows me to view the cameras in real-time. There are a lot more set-up features than i have used so far, and i will have to go through the manual as i set up different features, but so far i am very happy with the system. I only wish that my house had the wires pre-run because it can get hot in the attic very fast, but once the wires are in, connecting is a breeze.

- S. AmandaThe system is top notch. Beautiful color hd or sd picture in the day, and sharp pictures at night, viewed on my desktop or my android phone - unbelievable. I've never installed anything like this before, but was able to do it all except for an issue i ran into using my web browser ms edge for accessing the dvr's ip address. Explorer works for this, edge does not. I called amcrest's tech support and spoke with gary heller (spelling? ) he did an awesome job identifying the problem immediately and fixing it via remote access. What an awesome tech group amcrest has. Undoubtedly, someone like me will have an issue with tech stuff. Amcrest came through. Thanks amcrest & gary. Great product.

I'm revisting my previous review on this purchuse. It took me some time to get it all installed and cameras adjusted, it was my first time working with this type of product. I love it, just 4 cameras works for me but i would suguest the 8 channel system with 4 cameras to start, then you can add more as needed. The 1080p 2mp cameras have a clear sharp image, i bought a 20" stand alone monitor for the system and built a shelf in a closet in our spare bedroom. Its hidden away but easily accessible when i need it. Now i just need to spend time working with it in order to learn all the fuctions. Watching it on my smart phone is also pretty cool. First vision tec. Was the way to go they'll help you out if you get stuck. 00

Amcrest ProHD 1080P POE Power Over Ethernet IP Camera Pan/Tilt, Two-Way Audio, Optional Cloud Recording, Full HD 1920TVL 30FPS, Wide 90 Viewing Angle Night Vision IP2M-841EB Black

Camera seems to work just fine however confused with electrical installation. I have downloaded the app on my android phone and am able to see reasonably good video on my android phone. Have not viewed on a computer monitor yet. Looking forward to seeing high quality video next week on a 1080p monitor when i install the viewer on my computer. . The confusion on the installation is this: in the sales advertisement, it indicates that this camera needs a poe power source. . This is a power over ethernet (poe) camera and requires a separate poe injector or poe switch to operate. A power supply and a poe injector are not included, and are sold separately. We recommend purchasing a tp-link poe injector or poe switch if you currently do not have any type of poe power supply. . Because of the above statement, i did purchase a poe kit for extra money. As it turns out, it wasn't needed and i wasted money. Included in the box was a small wall wort type 5v power supply. I am using this included power supply which is supplying power to the camera. I connected a cat 5 cable directly from the camera to the non poe switch and the camera is working fine without any poe injection. I tried contacting amcrest and they were not helpful in explaining why poe was a requirement for using the camera. . Without any poe injection, this camera is working fine and the included 5v power supply is directly plugged into the back of the camera's power input port supplying power. Somehow, either i got lucky or the documentation is wrong. Not sure what to think. Can someone clarify? -greg-

Amcrest Ethernet Optional Recording Ip2m 841eb (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

Setting up this camera is not always the easiest thing. For one thing, i had to enter a time zone that is not mine (maybe i missed something). However, it works beautifully once setup. I use it with synology surveillance station (both desktop and ios) and with amcrest ios software, both very good. I will definitely buy more of them. -Notice from O. Michele, Middlesbrough

These are excellent little cameras. You can see where someone did some quality work on the interface and the camera itself. These come in very nicely packed boxes. The video is excellent. I have around 6 on our property, i'll probably have 6 more. Yes, some are mounted outside (even though they are not really meant for outdoor). Very well done! :). . One lesson i did learn - this relates to those that run blue iris - is if you are running - say blueiris on a slower/older pc, you'll want to go into the configuration utility for the camera and slow the frame rate down to - say 5 frames per second vs 30. The hd images from these cameras are top notch and work perfectly at 5fps. The high frame rates (with hd size images) will really bog down an older pc - especially if you get 3 or 4 of these going at one time. 5fps seems to work really well for me. Experiment with it as you see fit. These are outstanding little cameras.

- X. ColleenThe amcrest prohd 1080p poe is a solid camera for it's price point. The camera has a great picture and the motor for the motion is smooth and quiet. The install for the first unit can be a little challenging due to the sparse manual; i managed to integrate it with my synology dvr under 30 minutes. . This one is installed inverted on the ceiling and it provides full coverage for the large room. The orientation can be changed in the admin screen; remember it hit save! the admin tool also configures the motion detection periods. . I recommend you plan out the install before you permanently place the cameras. I got everything working locally in my office with a just the supplied amcrest applications. I then integrated them into my synology san unit which required a few installs. Finally i configured remote access manual since i don't use dnlp for security reasons. Once remote access via browser was working, i then played with several mobile apps including amcrest view (non-pro) which will meet most of your beeds. . With support for power over ethernet, a single ethernet cable will provide data and power for the device. If your network switch doesn't have the required poe injector, i would recommend the unit from texas wifi. I ran a single ethernet cable to a closet with access to power to support an 8-port switch and the injector. All of the cameras are wired back to this area keeping the install neat, out of the way, and easily expanded.

Summary: excellent smartphone app, power over the ethernet cable adds improved security. . One annoying bit is that you have to use the computer software in order to set the on. . Summary: fantastic ip camera with pan, tilt and digital zoom sets up easily for remote viewing and interaction - down angle is somewhat limited if used on a shelf, etc. Smartphone app works well but advanced functionality limited. . I currently have a amcrest wired system as well as a foscam c1 and 2 of the lorex ping ip cameras, so i've had decent experience with a few similar products. I'd give this one a definite 2 thumbs up. . Setup: quick and easy, exactly as the instructions described. Using the power over ethernet adapter, you still only have one cable running to the camera, but now it's carrying both power and the signal. This is nice as the problems i have with our wifi cameras tend to be with the wifi going down from time to time. . One cool feature with this systeml is that you can speak and be heard from the camera unit. It's got 1-way audio - kind of like a walkie talkie - you switch from listening to speaking. I was out of town on a business trip, but was able to alert the family that i was watching and then i could see them when i called on the phone. . The normal view you get on your smartphone is regular resolution - click on the hd button to get full resolution, though frame rate will typically go down. . A few notes:. 1) each time you use it you have to click on the camera and enable the view - an extra 3-4 touches on your phone which seem a waste of time. 2) pan, tilt, and zoom in the app can be a bit tricky to use, particularly if you have a laggy connection. You have to hit the button in the app, but then you have to swipe in the direction you want the camera to move and hold your finger there while it pans. It's so-so when you are on the same network, but the lag means that you typically overshoot where you wanted to move the camera. I suggest turning down the steps in the controls so it doesn't go as far each time. 3) the downward angle is mediocre. I have it on the fireplace mantle, which is pehaps 4 feet off the ground. Still, you can just see the base trim on the other side of the room about 12 feet away. Another 10 degrees of downward angle would be good, otherwise you really would want to mount this on a wall or ceiling for better viewing. 4) the zoom is a digital zoom only - you can only zoom so far before the picture starts to get grainy. It's also a center zoom, so with the downward angle noted, you can't zoom into something on the bottom of the frame. This could in theory be addressed in the app. 5) night vision is fantastic - this has a ton of ir led's dumping out tons of illumination to the night - vision mode. 6) in order to set the clock you have to use the computer software - kind of annoying since otherwise i interface only with my smartphone. . Despite the issues noted above, i'd still say that i more than like this camera - some room for improvement in the app for controlling the camera as well as viewing. . Free/discounted sample provided for evaluation. My goal is an honest and informative review. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know!

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-956E White

amcrest has really been branching out recently and unfortunately some of their newer products have been getting mixed reviews on online store due to uninformed consumers. This prohd line is what i would call a prosumer line of products it s a topshelf consumer product packed full of features normally found on more expensive enterprise equipment. Take some time to do some proper research and you ll be able to understand why some of these cameras are getting undeserved negative reviews. You ll also be able to appreciate the truly awesome products amcrest is putting out. . This camera has a rich feature set including a sony imx322 image sensor, ambarella s2lm chipset, and ip66 weatherproofing (can handle some massive downpours and dust storms but you re not going to want to take it scuba diving. Be sure you use the included ethernet weatherproofing if you re installing it outside! ). . First thing you need to know is that this camera does not include a power adapter to plug in to your wall. This camera is intended to be powered by what s called poe (power over ethernet which i ll explain shortly). There is a socket on the camera to utilize an ac - dc adapter (12v 2a), but you will need to provide your own adapter if you wish to directly power the camera utilizing an ac wall outlet (it is worth noting that the dc power socket on the camera does not include weather-proofing while the ethernet socket does). . This camera is what is called poe which stands for power over ethernet. If you re a little bit tech-savvy and know what you re doing, this makes installing and maintaining a camera network extremely convenient! if you re not tech savvy and you order a standalone poe camera, it s a bit of a recipe for disaster. This is not a plug and play camera. What makes poe convenient is that the power is delivered to the camera through the same cable that carries the network and video signals. This is different from other types of cameras that can require multiple cables. The downside is that the overwhelming majority of consumer networking products do not support poe. What s that mean? it means if you just plug this camera into your home router it s probably not going to work, because it won t be getting any power! . . There are a number of different ways to deliver power to the camera: if you have a poe compatible nvr (network video recorder), a poe compatible network switch added to your network, or a poe compatible router (chances are that router you bought at best buy or the one at&t gave you when they installed your internet is not poe compatible). Alternatively, you can supply power directly to the camera as i described above and then connect it to your network using an ethernet cable to run the video and network feed. Probably the most common option to power a handful of cameras would be to buy what is called a poe injector which will plug in to your wall and then power the ethernet cable to run to the camera. . The camera comes with a quick start guide and there are a number of different options to get the camera up and running, as well as a number of different options to view and access the camera once it s up and running. This is another area where amcrest has been reaping some unfortunate negative reviews. It extremely difficult to make software that attempts to make things easy and automatic for the user because there are some many different variables in the user environment, things don t always go as they should. An advanced user can usually go in and figure out what went wrong and tweak it on their own, while the non-advanced user is left wondering what went wrong it was supposed to work on its own! just remember microsoft s plug and play which computer techs used to refer to as plug and pray because it failed so often! . . Thankfully amcrest has offered multiple ways to set up and access the cameras. I ve never had to use their support because i ve been able to figure stuff out on my own, but i ve read that they have stellar customer support give them a ring if you re having trouble! . . The image quality on these units is stellar. The resolution allows for a truly useful digital zoom on most monitors since the resolution exceeds most consumer monitors. The camera housing itself seems solidly constructed. Nearly every component of the housing is comprised of metal. The articulation arm feels built like a tank. It took me a minute to figure out how to control the yaw loosen the adjustment screw a little extra and you ll be able to crank the yaw around the base with a very satisfying click of each angle before you lock it back in to place. . Overall i am quite pleased with the function and quality of this camera. I can see how some may have run into issues with setup, installation, and maintaining usage, but if you have the know-how, this camera offers excellent quality in a solidly-constructed housing. . I provided an honest and unbiased review of this product and the manufacturer/seller was kind enough to provide me a monetary discount. I strive to stand by the "honest and unbiased" goal. I will always point out what i deem to be negative aspects of the product, and ding stars accordingly. I'm just a regular dude that likes to write and geek out on tech projects.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Vandal Security (ip3m 956ew) FAQ.

Camera is pretty interesting to set up, lots of customization options. However, this specific model does not have micro-sd support. This means that the only local storage options you have are the nvr, if you choose to set that up. This is perplexing as the user manual on the amcrest site for this model has the guide to configure sd card recording. Never does it exclude this model from that feature. And there actually is a slot for it on the camera. Even more confusing. Tech support that maybe in the future this option will be enabled. This camera is not new. Its at least 1- 2 years old. When the hell will it get that. All other features are great. But for the security minded, local (or in network) recording is the only option, so you'll have to get the nvr. This makes the cost of the camera add up really fast. No longer is it a cheap $100 camera (with potential sd card cost) . Now you either pay for the cloud (free is only 4 hours worth) or you build out an nvr. The latter can run you into the $300 range. With time to setup. -Notice from R. Zelda, Haute-Normandie

Hardware seems good; software and user instructions are spotty/missing/non-function in some cases. . Pros:. - good image quality, good balance between detail and recorded file size. - solid build quality. - amcrest view pro app on iphone does a good job showing live video, very useful when aiming the camera during installation. . Cons:. - installation instructions are spotty, lots of googling involved in figuring out how to both install & adjust it physically, and even more effort needed to figure out what software you need and where to find it. Not at all a turn-key installation. - on macs, some of the necessary software doesn't work - amcrest surveillance pro 2 is supposed to give you nvr capability, but it doesn't work properly (and there's several threads about it failing/crashing on the support pages). Luckily i discovered securityspy for mac (highly recommended) so now, after spending an additional $40, i have a working nvr capability on my mac. - the basic software saves its video files in . Dav format which is almost useless because few if any other players support it. Luckily securityspy saves to . M4v so almost any player can use the files. - waterproof protector on the ethernet cable (it's poe) won't fit over a pre-made ethernet cable, so you'd have to insert a bare ethernet cable through and then attach your own ethernet connector with a special ethernet-cable-making tool - that's ridiculous, who wants to do that? guess my connection will just get wrapped in electrical tape and hope for the best. . All in all, on sale it's a good price for decent hardware (i paid $85 - pro tip: sign up for amcrest's mailing list and wait a few days for discount offers to come via email. I saved $35). They really should revisit the out-of-box installation flow though, as it requires more technical know-how and hunting/digging around than reasonable for a mainstream consumer product.

- A. MahoodPurchased this to keep an eye on my mailbox after i was a victim of mail/id theft. Solid, aluminum unit. The adjustable cover on the top does not really do much as it only extents for a maximum of 1/4" or so. Was easy to install (against wall under an eave; i used a junction box to cover the cables and connectors, it's quite a bundle with separate poe (waterproof) and power connector), and it worked right away. Tip: do not crimp the ethernet connector on your cable until you have the camera, as it needs to feed through the supplied waterproofing sleeve first. I am using a poe injector. I will probably get more and then upgrade the injector to a poe switch. The image quality is excellent, as well as the integrated web based interface. I have a wd nas that comes with a milestome arcus surveillance app, but i decided to just use the camera's interface and management tools and store the streams and motion detection triggered snapshots to my nas. The iphone app gives a quick live view. Will probably get a couple more of them to monitor the entire perimeter of my house.

I really can't say any more than what's already been said by everyone else. They are good cameras for their price point. I have two of these cameras and they work well. But longevity is the bigger question. And i'm wondering how they'll do. During the frosty winters. . I run two of these outside; one for the front door/entry way and the other for the driveway. I'll be adding another for the back yard/back door eventually. . Here's my equipment config that's working well so far:. . 1. Two of these cameras set to 1080p. 2. Tp-link 8-port poe switch (4 poe / 4 regular). 3. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless media bridge mode. 4. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless router mode. 5. Old dell dimension 9100 pentium d 2. 8ghz w/4gb ram. 6. Blue iris software set to record "direct-to-disk". . My setup works decently well. Cpu usage stays around 50%-60% during the day and around 30%-40% at night time (black and white). Adding a third camera though will most likely require a computer upgrade. . The cameras have good color during the day time and during the night i switch them over to black and white. The ir range on them is a bit limited but is adequate for i use them for. One word of caution, to get the most out of the ir don't have something in the cameras field of view that is bright in color as it will wash out the picture at night time and cause darker areas to be even darker. Using the ir in my driveway looks far better than the ir in the entry way that is surrounded by yellow siding from the house. But, the camera app software does provide you with enough settings to tweak to get the image almost where you need it. . This is my first foray into security cameras and they seem to do the job perfectly. But, how long will they last?

The F.A.Q. for amcrest full-hd video security system -weatherproof ip67 bullet cameras, 65ft ir led night vision, smartphone view 2mp nvr kits, 2mp 8ch nvr + 4 bullets hdd not included.

I purchased 4 of these camera to place around all the exits of my home. A few years back a couple of guys tried to break in to the house and the wife has been asking me to add security cameras for piece of mind. I also think adding cameras around the house act as a great deterrent again intruders. At night the soft glow of the led night vision lights also a great warning that they are on camera. . I went with poe cameras since even the wireless ones still need a cable for power so i bought a 8 port poe injector ws-poe-8-48v60w passive 10/100 power over ethernet poe injector for 8 ip cameras, voip phones or access points, 48 volts, 60 watts total power which connects via cat5e to the cameras and the dlink switches for the house network. I used blueiris added to a media pc i already had to act as the control center for all of the camera which i can access via a web page or using their mobile app. . The first camera was a little tricky to setup since it was the first but after i figured it out the next cameras took about 60 seconds. I do recommend setting up a static ip so if there is a power outage they don't come up with a new ip address and you can't find them. Video quality during the day and night is very good. Impressed how far the night vision can reach although my primary concern is without 30-40 feet of the entrances. . I think the physical quality of the cameras is good. Previous reviewers have talked about two small wires hanging out. I think they have gotten rid of this now. On this model there is the ethernet connection which comes with outside water-resistant connectors and another smaller connector which looks like it could be used for external power. Not sure how you would reset the cameras now. I did wish that it was possible to be able to disconnect their 8" or so cable and just plug the ethernet right in to the camera base. On one of my camera their cable is inside the wall but its visible in the other installations. . So far i'm very happy with the purchase and we will see how they hold up against colorado weather.

A number of questions have been asked here.

Great bundle and setting it up was a walk in the park. Just plan where you will place the cameras, mount and run the rj45 ethernet cables. Video quality is great day and night. Had a small little problem with the software which was fixed after i updated the firmware so be sure to try that first if you run into any issues with the software. . They have a great support team. I had some questions and they got back to me quick. Christine banks was very helpful. Ask for her if you need some quality assistance.

installation is fairly straight forward. For the most part, the cameras just need to be plugged in and you will be able to access them. You will have configure your router's firewall to enable remote viewing, which is the case with most any device you connect to your home network. The camera mounts were a bit of a challenge to get angled correctly. I have installed other cameras with mounts that were much easier and had a wider range of motion. The software for the individual cameras is very good, the nvr software is a bit rough around the edges, but with so many features a steep learning curve is to be expected. The mobile app for android is a 3 out of 5 stars, the ios app is closer to 4. Image quality is excellent and the dynamic range during day or night is impressive. The night vision mode works well and the ir emitters easily reach the 25-30 feet that i need.

I just picked one of these up to replace an older acti outdoor cam and i am mostly impressed. I'll keep this brief:. . Pros. -great 2 mp picture. -strong ir illumination for night vision. Much better then my older cam that was waaaaay more $. -seems pretty well put together and solid. -works great with blue iris. . Daytime picture here:. (. ). . Cons. -you can not access the camera's set up web interface with a modern browser. It will not work with chrome or edge. You need to use old internet explorer or somesuch that uses activex. Why amcrest doesn't include a server jpeg push capability is beyond me. -it doesn't have a lot of processor power. If you are streaming at hi res and try to simultaneously access the setup interface, things get really slow. -the ethernet pigtail is long, about a foot and a half. It also has a waterproof gland that is about 3/4" in diameter so there is no way to do a nice clean surface mount in a finished location without drilling a very large hole through your exterior wall. I am using this cam under my rear deck so appearance is not an issue, but i'd like to place one over my front door. But i haven't thought of a good way to manage the long pigtail and waterproof gland. . So, overall 4 stars due to it very good performance at this price point.

There are some good things and bad things about these cameras. For the good. Inexpensive, nice 1080 resolution, easy to install. . There are some tricks though. . First, for adjusting, it has a fairly limited range of motion on the connection ball. But, there is a screw on the shaft and if you back it out you can rotate the ring. Hence you can properly attach the ring to the wall and get a decent motion range. . The water seal ring doesn't have enough room for a rj45, so you need to run the cable through the ring and then crimp the rj45 end on. Not always the most fun on top of a ladder. . The image, both night and day, is decent. . The overlay character generator is fairly low resolution, so you will have heavy pixelation of the date and text on your nice 1080p image. . For setup, the instructions suck. If you want to set this up as a p2p based camera using their monitoring system and app, it is probably not bad. Except that the software (as opposed to the app) doesn't work on the mac. . If, like me, you want these internal to my firewall, not exposed, and connected to my own security system (e. G. Blueiris or synology), ignore all of the directions, plug in the camera, run a port scanner, and set it up from the url you discover. From there you can turn off p2p (on by default), and set the ip and video overlays. . Now, the playback asks over and over again to install their plugin. As far as i can tell, it doesn't work with chrome (or perhaps i need to restart my computer, but i don't want to bother. ) it does work with safari though, so for viewing the camera via its ip directly, you'll have to be picky about the browser. (i haven't tried on edge/ie). . So, overall, a good camera for the price, but. There are some installation tricks and setup tricks to figure out.

I came back to the product page for this camera fully intending to purchase another as i feel this unit almost over delivers. Going back a little bit - i had first ordered a different amcrest model, the ip2m-841e. It seemed like a pretty solid unit, but my particular one seemed to have some issues out of the box. I was going to just replace it with a new one until i saw the listing for the this model. It was a bit more than the original 841, but it also offered some more features which were attractive to me. The first thing i noticed is that the only similarity between the 841 and the 846 is that they both have the amcrest name on them. While the 841 appeared to be a definitive step up from the foscams i had grown used to, this 846 is head and shoulders above that. . This is one serious camera. If you had been equating the name "amcrest" with amateur diy consumers, this camera will quickly disavow you of that line of thinking. At work we have an odd mixture of axis, panasonic, and vivotek cameras. Only our two newest axis units with subject tracking have anything on this. And at $4, 000 each, they're completely unobtainable for someone like me for home use. . The 846 gives you complete control over picture settings as you would expect, but it comes with some nice extras not commonly found, even on high end models. You can enable / disable the main stream and the sub streams independently - very nice as i don't really need the sub stream. There are provisions for multicasting which i disabled as i stream directly to blue iris, but the feature is not only there, it's also something you can disable. The user management is among the best i've seen on an ip camera. I went through the motions of playing around with it even though ultimately, again, i'm not using it in lieu of blue iris user management. This camera has a microsd slot, which in all of my other cameras i leave empty. But not this one. If the camera loses it's network connection, it will record to the microsd card. Very nice. There are provisions for user defined ntp and smtp servers, automatic rebooting, constant and variable bit rate streaming/recording, multiple protocols for ptz, alarm, and audio codecs. Really the list just goes on and on. I recently performed a firmware update to the camera and that went without issue. And finally the picture quality is superb, both in daylight and with ir assistance. The ptz movement is speed adjustable and at it's fastest is quite fast while at it's slowest you are allowed to make the finest adjustments. For those where it applies, i have this camera at the end of cat 6 run that is close to 150' in length and my ubiquiti switch 24-250 has no problems powering it (along with 3 aps and two foscams). . There are a few issues i either wasn't pleased with or would like to see improved. The sound is a mess. Experimenting with the sound options eventually yielded something tolerable, but, powered by poe at least, the sound has a tremendous amount "noise". In a way you still need to use internet explorer to fully configure this camera and that's a buggy problem itself. Where you can make picture adjustments, the little inlay of the picture doesn't sit where it's intended and obscures most of the settings you want to set. My solution was to use google chrome and have no video show up at all while using one of my android tablets to view the video via blue iris. A clunky solution, but it got me where i needed to be. . So i mentioned that i came back here fully intending to purchase another of these. Why aren't i? well in the six or seven weeks since i bought my first unit, this has gone up in price by more than $100. That's a tough pill to swallow as i just bought an outdoor sunba camera for nearly the same price (and it's outdoor rated with a 20x optical zoom). So i'm going to sit back a bit and see if this settles down. Even a $50 drop would get me to buy another one.

G. Mary, Poitou-Charentes

These are pretty easy to set up and the video quality is is good both in the day and night modes. . That said i will mention some observations:. There's a few different ways to go about the initial setup on these. Sure you can use a phone and that is one way to do it. I found the amcrest surveillance pro software to be my favorite way. You can also use the amcrest ip config software or the nvr interface if you are using the nvr. Having used them all i like the surv, pro sw best. One big reason is this. As some users mentioned one problem with the cameras is that if you lose power - not just to the cameras only but say to everything - including your router, they are subject to getting different addresses when everything comes back. This can be problematic. I decided to simplify my life in this area by switching my whole system over to static addresses. Once this is done i think the power outages will have less impact (they happen here with annoying frequency). I found making these configuration to be easiest using the surv pro sw. . I think this resolution is a good balance between good video quality and network performance. Sure you can get better resolutions but with ip cameras that comes at the cost of more traffic and higher bandwidth needs. Now i have 6 of my 9 cameras run poe directly into a switch connected directly into my nvr so most of the traffic on mine is not going over my wifi network. And the 3 wifi cameras i have of the same resolution perform well too. And i find this resolution fine for my needs. . Now for the physical side - you have to be careful how you mount the base relative to where you want to aim the camera because the screw channels can interfere with the camera's ability to point downward. The base has 4 screws and if you have one of those in line with the downward tilt of the camera you will not have the full range of motion and will not be able to tilt it down very far. You want that cable on the back side of the camera to roll up centered between those screw channels. Otherwise the camera will not tilt down very far into that little semi-circular notch in the bracket. I noticed this after having to undo and remount the first one i mounted because i was not paying attention to this detail. And one of the ones i got was so tight in the base i had to put a strap wrench on it to unscrew it from the baseplate to allow me to mount it. A machine must have screwed that thing together. Once you get past these small details they are easy to mount. I love the poe - so much easier to deal with than the old style. It is why i have waited until now to install a system. On the whole i've been happy with these so far.

C. Nancy, Wyoming says

The product seems sturdy and quality built. Comes with a dongle containing both a cat5 connection and ac adapter connection. I only used the cat5 since i was using it for poe, and taped over the power plug. Also comes with a little sleeve thing to cover the connection of the cat5 cable. This sleeve is about 3/4" diameter, i was able to fit it through the hole i drilled with a spade bit in my soffit. Also comes with four mounting screws, however i used different ones of a bit higher quality. The camera is fully adjustable, the ball can be moved in any direction and the "holder" for it also spins around. Picture quality and color are good, however the night vision seems lacking. I'm not sure it actually makes the full 98 foot claim, but i also haven't exactly measured it. See the pics and judge for yourself (screenshots from the amcrest view android app). . As i said, i set it up poe with an amcrest nvr and it works perfectly. Was just plug n play into the nvr. Then i was able to view the live cam footage on my phone through the amcrest app which is nice. I believe this camera can also be connected directly to a router for live streaming, however you wouldn't get the extra features or recording capability of an nvr. . My only real complaint is mounting the thing. There are zero instructions provided in the quick start guide in regards to physically mounting the thing to a surface, and i also was unable to find an actual manual (besides the quick start guide) on the amcrest website. The quick start guide is very detailed in the use of the cam's features though. Anyway, i planned to mount the camera on the underside of my vinyl soffit but of course that's impossible to do with the ball in the way of the mounting screw holes. So i figured the ring that holds the ball in comes off. Nope, it just spins around forever. Some of the metal inside the ring actually ground off just by the spinning and force i put on it trying to disassemble it. Turns out, you can just apply downward pressure on the ball from the top (mounting location) and the ball will pop right out. Would have been nice to know that before spending half an hour trying to unscrew the thing. But even then, you'll want a long screwdriver bit to be able to get the screws in because since the ring is still in the way you're kind of screwing in at an angle. . It screwed into my vinyl soffit just fine with stainless steel 3/4" screws. Feels secure enough with no real solid backing behind it. Once the ring was mounted, i drilled a 3/4" diameter hole through the center to feed the cable up in to. There are also 4 little notches if you wish to run the cable out the side of the base. Once everything was in place, i pressed the ball back up in to the ring and it popped back in place. Hasn't fallen yet. . One other thing i noticed while testing it indoors is that the top of the camera ball gets very hot. It kind of makes me nervous having it outside in the sun and heat, but we will see what happens.

B. Cecilia, Rochdale

The cons:. . Right off the bat, the quick start guide in the box only covers setting the camera up to talk to your network and the mobile app. It doesn't mention physical installation or mounting at all, which i think is a pretty major oversight. Installation is simple, but it's non-obvious if you've never done it before. I had to search online (the user guide on amcrest's website also doesn't have much info, but i was able to find a good youtube video that amcrest had published). Amcrest should really include install instructions in the box, or at least put a note directing people to the youtube video. I'm both fairly handy and tech saavy and it had me scratching my head so i imagine less tech saavy customers being totally lost. . The video feed requires a special plugin on your computer (boo), and the plugin doesn't appear to work with chrome. Offering a product that isn't compatible with the most popular web browser in the world seems like a questionable business strategy, but at least the plugin does work with firefox, so i was able to use that as a workaround. . I did notice that the plugin for viewing video in a web browser did crash a few times, but it's simple enough to refresh the page to get it going again, however, if it is your intent to leave the video feed open in a browser for an extended period of time this may be problematic for you. . This camera uses a pigtail for external connections (power / network). The pigtail is about 12" long and is permanently attached to the camera. The downside to using a pigtail is that if you want to do an "in wall" install (where the cable runs inside the wall / ceiling) is that you have to drill a much larger hole to allow the pigtail to fit through the hole. Not necessarily an issue if the camera never moves, but if you ever take the camera down you'll be left with a rather large ( 3/4") hole in your wall which is much harder to patch than a smaller hole for a single cat5 cable. . The mounting system is designed such that the camera is supposed to be able to move horizontally/vertically in order to aim it, but there are four plastic pieces where the mounting screws go that interfere with the pigtail coming out of the back of the camera so in some circumstances it's very difficult / impossible to point the camera exactly where you want it. . The pros:. . Aesthetically, the camera looks very nice. It's very low profile and unobtrusive. Once mounted, it gives me the impression that it's very secure and will be a "set it and forget it" solution. . Once you understand the install process and the nuances / caveats that go with it, it's very simple. It took me about 30 minutes to install the first camera and subsequent cameras only took about 10 minutes. . Overall, the camera seems to be high quality. It feels sturdy and does not have that "cheap, made in china" feel to it that many lower cost cameras have. . The web interface for the camera is fairly intuitive and easy to use (other than plugin issues mentioned above). All of the usual options (flip/rotate image, change resolution, change frame rate, etc are present). . I'm using these cameras with zoneminder dvr software and they work as expected, no compatibility issues. . Image quality seems to be good (not great - some motion blur, hdr washout, etc) and the night-time ir functionality is much better than the cameras i replaced. . The final thoughts:. . Amcrest can do better on their out of box experience. It would be nice if the cameras had native browser support without requiring buggy or unsupported plugins, but this isn't a show stopper. The mounting system can be a little challenging at first but once you understand the nuances it works fine. Video quality is good, as expected at this price point. All in all, all of my complaints will only be issues on day 1 during installation, after that i'll never deal with them so they're not a big deal to me. I would buy this again.

. Wimbish, North Carolina says

I have spent a lot of money on many different camera setups by amcrest. First of all poe is the way to go, all amcrest cameras have adapters if you don't have poe. I run them all with cat6 and you can find the cable and everything you need cheep. The app works great from anywhere in the world for free. However for replays you need to be on site or have a very expensive and fast connection. But real time works great and same with notifications as long as the cameras are not in night mode (to much dust in the air sets it off). Keep areas well it to fix that. . I have had some of the worst customer service(hung up on me multiple times and didn't even speak good english) offended i couldn't understand him and best customer service at higher levels (spoke great english) but couldn't fix the problem at first, then sent equipment to fix it. For stuff this like this that's the best u can ask for. . I have told friends on other systems about these cameras and they love the quality and the price. . So far i have had them 1year with all phoenix az brutal seasons. Other than winter, winter is nice here :)

W. Harrison, Stockton-on-Tees

I have three of these and all have performed great with no issues. Two are outdoors under eaves and one is inside the garage. The cameras that are outdoors do get exposed to rare rain when strong wind blows it at an angle and this has not caused any issues. We also had some extremely humid weather for several days and this did not cause any issues either. . These cameras are smaller than i expected. I went from old foscam bullet cameras that were larger than a soda can. The old foscam cameras had a few rows of infrared leds so i expected this amcrest camera with one row to not have as good of night vision. However, this was not the case. This camera does just fine after dark. Seems like the led technology has improved. . The firmware used with these cameras is quite good and much more polished than foscam cameras. Amcrest also offers free surveillance software that works quite well. I believe amcrest purchased my favorite surveillance software blue iris and it may have been the base code for their program (this is just speculation). However, the amcrest program is much more basic than blue iris and i believe it will only work with amcrest cameras. All of this is fine with me since it is free, works well, and i really like amcrest cameras. I have used amcrest cameras and software for others and it is working flawlessly. . All this would not make for five stars if the picture was not good, and it certainly is. I know there are higher resolution cameras, but 1080p is just fine for most uses. I mostly view my camera remotely, so that feed is not 1080p and it looks good. I am amazed at the video when i view it from the computer running blue iris. I think it would be hard to find a better camera for the price.

Q. Evelyn, Yukon Territory says

Out of all three cameras that i have the amcrest has the clearest day and night vision. Video one is a 3mp hd dahua mini dome camera. Videotwo is the amcrest 1080p hd 2mp bullet camera. You can cleary see the difference in cameras.

Edited with correction and moved from 3 to 5 stars - the waterproof gland is actually fine, but there are no instructions on how to assemble it. Amcrest/foscam totally stood behind this camera and replaced it without question with a new model. While waiting i bought some other connectors that had instructions, and i realize that i assembled it incorrectly before. Amcrest really must put instructions in the package on how to properly assemble the waterproof cable gland. A tiny scrap of paper with a single drawing on it would suffice. . I'll probably be buying a few more of these, they really are quite good for the money. . Original review. The camera itself works great. However, the gland to protect the ethernet connector against water is very poor. Within less than 1 months, the connector carrying the power corroded away, so the camera is now useless. The attached photos show the water damage. The gland was securely fastened, and the camera was screwed to a deck rail in january. . I'll be trying to find another pigtail with a good waterproof gland on it to replace this, but i really didn't expect to have to be doing soldering on a 4 week old device. . I guess i'd buy this camera again, but i'd advise taking steps to ensure the connector does not get wet. Putting it under the eaves in the house might be enough. Adding an o ring to the gland may help too (maybe two). If you have a location that's sheltered from the weather, this is a pretty good camera.

I have the indoors of my house well-covered by indoor surveillance cameras. So this one from amcrest will eventually be set up outside. But for purposes of this review, i just wanted to test it out to make sure that it works and get a feel for how easy it is to set up. . There are several ways to configure the camera in the accompanying quickstart guide. I opted for the one that appeared to be the most simple, while enabling it to transmit live images to my iphone the matter where i am, as long as i have data service. That configuration i chose was cloud access. . My time warner cable router appears to not be set up for "power over ethernet. " therefore, i used a special cable that was provided to me by amcrest which has a split cable on one end which forks to and ac outlet and the camera on one and with the other end going into the router. . While there was no visual indication that the camera had powers up, i was able to determine that it indeed was because it felt warm to the touch. . The next step was to log on the the amcrest cloud site whic allows you to operate on cam free. I inputted the appropriate user name and password and from there i was able to see the clear, sharp image of my home office. . Motion detection can be set for certain outs of each day of the week. To try it out, i set it for the current time and sure enough, i almost immediately because to receive notifications to my email address. . Again, because this camera is weather resistant, and has a tough all metal exterior, i plan to set it up outside eventually. But for now, i'm going to leave it on as an extra (highly redundant) cam for our home. . This item as provided free or at discount on exchange for an unbiased reviews.

I'm really impressed with the video quality, ir lights / night vision range, and ease of setup. Don't get me wrong, running an ethernet cable through the attic in the middle of summer isn't fun. But i'm really glad i installed this camera. . I have added three images, the camera is about 40' away from an 18' diameter above ground pool. 1. The first picture is in bright daylight. 2. The second is at dusk but honestly looks like a black and white video stream in daylight. 3. The third is at night with the ir lights on. . I'm sure the picture with the ir lights on would be better if so much of it wasn't reflecting off of the house.

This has a great picture and a very wide viewing angle! we bought it on sale to keep an eye on the kids playing in the backyard, and was the first of probably a few camera's we'll end up buying. The app connects in seconds and will you view a total of 4 cameras at once. Power for this comes from a 4-port, 48v, passive poe injector. It would have been great if the camera came with one, but unfortunately that was an additional expense. Because of the wide viewing angle and high resolution, you can zoom in digitally. You lose the detail, of course, but not so much that you can't see the image. This camera also has a ring of near-infrared lights around the lens. You can see them at night, but not near as brightly as they appear on camera or as bright as the image appears.

Z. Valdez, Virginia says

i bought this camera to monitor my driveway and most of the front of my house. I have it mounted right over my driveway and the wide angle is perfect for this setup. I think the angle is a little wider than the advertised 93 degrees, which is a good thing. I also have another one mounted over the deck in the rear of my house. The camera is white so it's inconspicuous as well. This camera is true 1080p and nearly matches the clarity of the ip3m and ip4m cameras, which i have also tested. Mounting it can be a little tricky until you understand how it should be positioned. You have to pay extra attention to where the wire is positioned as you tighten the ring. Although tricky, the mounting style allows for some fairly flexible angles since the camera is basically a ball. You can twist and turn it how you see fit. . The only thing i don't particularly care for is that it has a fairly large rj45 connector that must be positioned outside of the camera. This would be fine for an in-wall installation but i ended up running my cables under my siding and the size of the connector made it pretty difficult. Keep in mind that if you plan on running the cables into your house that you will be required to drill a fairly large hole into your house in order to fit the connector through. To be fair, it's not really possible to make the connector much smaller than it is but i think it would have been a good option to have the ability to plug an rj45 connector directly into the back of the camera. This would eliminate the need for the larger connector and allow you to drill a much smaller hole. There certainly would be enough room on the back of this camera to do this. The infrared performance is good. The light distribution isn't completely even but that's nearly impossible to find at this price point, especially with the clarity of this camera. Overall, i'm happy with it and i personally think this poe dome camera has the best bang for your buck.

X. Brendon, Derby

I bought this to monitor my front door. It works very well. It has a web interface to configure everything. If you point it to an ftp server, you can have it record video. It even does motion detection recording right on the camera. I like the poe (power over ethernet) feature because it means i only have to run one network wire to the camera for power and network (when the other end is attached to a poe switch).

R. Imelda, Warrington says

Tried this camera out for the price. Works fine with blueiris. One thing i did notice, is the camera randomly disconnecting, which isn't a deal breaker since it reconnects right away. Blueiris logs show the disconnect but then it comes right back up. I also use rstp streaming via vlc. That is where i discovered the disconnects. . Additional information:. Here is what i used for the rstp streaming url: rtsp://username:password cameraip:80/cam/realmonitor? channel 1&subtype 1

I'm a huge fan of amcrest cameras - the bang for the buck in amazing. So when i was given the opportunity to review and test this weatherproof poe ip camera, i snapped it up. . The design is a bit unusual - it's not a pan and tilt camera - it's stationary. It's a design choice between a bullet camera or dome. The dome camera is more secure, as a bullet can be grabbed or moved with a thrown object. This camera would take an accurate hit with a brick to do anything. . Checklist: this is a true poe camera. This means you'll need a poe injector or a hub/switch with poe. The 12v whip on the camera is optional. Either seal it or tuck it in the hole or box you use. The network cable should be the best quality possible, cat 5e or better. It also needs to have all the wires - some cheap cables don't have all 8 wires. . Software installation: i use the camera in amcrest surveillance pro - the free software from amcrest. Adding cameras, motion detection, recording, etc. Is a lot easier than blue iris. The first thing you'll want to do is install the amcrest ip config tool. This finds the cameras on your network and allows camera configuration. . Next hook up the camera, ideally using the cable and poe you'll actually use. This way you can troubleshoot everything before physical installation. Run the ip config tool. If the camera is there, you're all set. If not, start checking stuff. . Physical installation: the camera has four main pieces (see my photos), and you'll wind up breaking it down to three pieces to install it. The collar just above the base ring spins off. It's tight, but you can do it with your bare hands. When this spins off, you'll have the mounting/base plate, camera module with support, and ring. I always suggest clamping a camera to a long 2x4 or tall ladder before mounting so you can perfect the location. The camera mounts with four screws. Make sure you either drill the cable access hole so it's inside the ring, or if you're running the cable along the wall, make sure it's under the ring before mounting. Put the camera back together and leave the ring loose. Position the camera, check to make sure it's correct, and tighten the ring. To check if it's pointing where you want it, use the app or desktop. The app is obviously easier. I've installed cameras from on top of a 12 foot ladder, so i called my gf inside the house using my handsfree headset. When she said it was good to go, i tightened it up. This particular camera is ceiling mounted in my workshop - weatherproof equals dust and sawdust proof! if anyone comes in the service door, window, or garage door, i'll see them. . You can also power the camera from a 12v power supply plugged into the power connection on the camera. If you use poe, you don't need an external power supply. . Video quality: the camera has two video streams - the main stream and the substream. The main stream is selectable: 1080p, 720p or vga. The substream is vga. Typically wireless devices use the substream because of bandwidth issues. Both streams can be set from 1 to 30 fps. I use the main stream at 30 fps and 1080p. The amcrest software also supports tampering detection, motion, notification emails, snapshots, invalid logins and disconnection detection. Video can be recorded on your desktop, plus it supports ftp. We took an old pc and monitor, set it in a corner and use it as our "security center. " the quality is 1080p - the same as a hidef tv. I have a friend that uses an old computer as well, but also uses google chromecast to transmit the video from his computer to his tv. There are also ways to do it from other devices (roku, etc. ). . Bottom line: the camera is more robust than a bullet camera, but trickier to position. You can also spray-paint it to match the install location - since there's no moving parts to gum up! install was about an hour - including running wires. It's especially handy in locations where cameras can be reached, "accidentally" bumped by employees, and so on. Yes, the camera can be moved in the base - but it takes some effort. 1080p is clear enough to recognize faces and license plates. I've accidentally hit it a couple of times moving wood in the garage, with no ill effects. A bullet camera would have broken off. We currently have a bullet camera by the front door and i'm considering using one of these instead. Oh yea - if you use the app, the qr code is on a sticker on the cable. I totally missed it and had to ask tech support. Yea, i felt pretty stupid. . Free sample provided for honest review. I've had it installed for almost three weeks with no complaints!

The amcrest prohd ip2m-842e outdoor camera is a remarkably good camera for its price point. I wouldn't purchase an outdoor camera that wasn't poe. I already own amcrest products so this purchase was a no brainer. I have a multi port poe injector in my basement and have cat 6 currently running to four outdoor cameras, 3 of which are amcrest. The longest run is 100+ feet and i've never had a moments blip. The poe injector i'm using is available on online store - tp-link 8-port gigabit ethernet poe rackmount switch with 8 poe+ ports (tl-sg1008pe). I've gotten so many cameras i'm going to have to purchase a larger poe injector. The camera is simple to install. If you can read simple instructions you've got it made. You can literally just snap the barcode on the camera with your smart phone and see your picture. I set all my cameras to a static ip so if power drops dhcp doesn't decide to assign another address. I use the amcrest ip config program to discover what ip the camera is assigned when first initialized. I then set the ip to static and also assign a specific port for each camera. I create a dns name as well. So i can view the camera on lan, wan, or wherever i might be at any given time. I also use amcrest blue iris software which is outstanding. I haven't touched on anywhere near all the capabilities of the camera but i have got it where i receive text and email notification for any camera i have active detection defined. I've purchased other similarly priced cameras on online store but they have been difficult to maintain. I have a whole home generator with a ups for router, switch, fiber connection and poe injector so i don't lose configuration due to a power outage. Prior to all that "protection" i never had a problem with amcrest products. I keep a watchful eye on their sales and look forward to purchasing additional cameras in the future. I definitely recommend the amcrest line of products for ease of use, installation and overall quality. And no, i didn't receive anything free. I just really like things that work without having to reset every two weeks. Do yourself a favor and always back up your configuration just in case.

First of all, i love how you can stream video directly to your smart phone or tablet. Installation was easy though software left a lot to be desired. . Pros:. 1: small size. 2: easy to configure. 3: remote access using my smart phone. 4: portable. 5: email alerts and snapshots. 6: intelligent motion alerts. 7: decent night vision. . Cons:. 1: poor software. . Overall i am very pleased with this device. I received a complimentary sample in exchange for my review. I rate all products based on my personal experience with a product and strive to be objective regardless of price paid. I needed some help from my sons installing this but found it to be fairly straightforward. Overall i rate this product 4 stars with 1 star taken off because of the poor software. With a simple update in software it is a great device.

Pros: . - extremely light and small. - this is truly a 100% anti-theft camera as the installation process will ensure that no one can take this camera as quickly as possible. - you have the option to use standard or full hd as i use the standard when i m away and the hd viewing when i m at home (or when i have a good connection on my end). - you don t need to purchase a dvr as all you need to do is plug in the power cord and you re good to go; of course, you ll need to buy cloud data to save any viewings. - the viewing angels are big and clear as i installed it pretty far away from my door step. - strong night vision. With 30fps, it s still is a great view, just make sure you have some form of lighting as, without it, it ll be difficult to spot the image. - used the installation process all from my iphone. - ptz (pan-tilt-zoom) is such a cool feature as you can freely move this camera in any direction (up, down, left right) in almost a 360-degree spin, all from your smartphone. - have a good router; the connection is stable even without wi-fi. - customer service is excellent when you purchase this from the company (will get into this issue on the cons. ). - local storage on recordings! i love this so much because so many cameras now force you to pay a monthly fee to view all your recordings. - this is weather proof device as the whole system is protected with solid aluminum and you have the option of installing in almost any place (the wall, your roof, or inside). - the design layout is the same as when you go inside a retail store and you see those tilted cameras hanging from the ceiling. The glass is not tilted on this one but the camera is a solid black that you won t be able to see where it s looking at unless you re four feet away. - image enhancement, playback, record, microphone, speaker, motion detection, live recording, the app allows full customization as you can be on the other side of the globe and you ll still be able to change any settings you want on your smartphone or computer. - wireless installation. - like most cameras on the market, you can view any recording, save any recordings with the additional cloud upgrade. - live streaming is maybe 1-1. 5 seconds behind but not at all a con given the quality is still great. - 1080p viewings as the colors are darker and richer when viewing it on your phone or on the computer. - fantastic app that allows you to install numerous cameras and be able to view all of them if you want. - motion detection / zones are customizable. - the account will block someone from entering on the computer if they fail the password 3 times (usually it s for 5 minutes as i never went beyond that). . Cons and oks: . - the guidelines don t provide much information on deeper issues that may arise as it mostly about the app and use the software. - they provide you a cd with numerous pdf files on the camera but i wish they can provide some visual images in regards to where the hard reset button is at or solutions to connection problems that may arise. - the power/ethernet wire line is extremely short, probably less than two feet. - does not include a power adapter to a wall socket as i used a power cable that i got from my hardline phone in order to use it. - no cable extenders as you ll need to buy the wiring for both the power and the ethernet connector. - 30fps still has some low quality in viewing sometimes during the day (especially if the sun is hitting it. ) but you can just move the camera away if it s bothering you. - if your router isn t recent than you re going to have a hard time installing and using the app. Installation took me 30 minutes because the camera wouldn t connect to my wi-fi as i recommend you use an ethernet cable that is connected directly to the router when installing it. - the app does sometimes disconnect you from your camera as well as the app does have a delay time when trying to move the camera. - the instructions have the imagery that is based on a different model, might confuse some people. - you have to remove the camera from its case if you want to hard reset and see any led lighting because the button and the lighting are too small to see through the case. - no battery life or memory card insertion security safe net. If the power goes out then it s an open market. - ptz was working in the beginning, but after a couple of days, the gears inside the camera where making a clicking noise. The camera was no longer able to turn left and right, or move up or down, as it stayed in a lock position. Call tech service, they weren t able to fix it, as i have to return it because of a manufacturing issue. . Bottom line: . . This is built to survive outside and if you put four of these around your house you ll be set for the next 10 years. This device is solid as a rock and no thief is going to try to take it off since they ll first have to find where it is because of its tiny dome size. I also really appreciate the option that you don t need to buy a monthly fee as you only need a dvr system for your videos to be saved. The app gives you complete customization from the quality of your videos to even have the option to use its ptz program if you want to see what s going around your environment. . Yes, i ve experience a malfunction with mine as it did make an impact on my experience. The tech team was very informative but i guess i was one of the hundred that may have gotten a defect. Prior to that, i wish they provided you a power wall socket or at least extension cords because you won t be able to plug it in right when you get this. The live feed quality is great, there is no battery/memory card option if your home power goes out, and make sure your ptz layout works before installing it. . Overall this will hold its ground for the next 10 years but keep in mind that it's not a complete set. You will need to buy a power adapter and extension cables for both your ethernet and power line. Verdict: it s indeed weather proof and indeed a one of the best in the market to have but let s not forget to keep it close to your house as there is no backup plan when the power goes out. . Hope i was a help to you. Love, . Honest reviewer

Security is a big concern for all of us these days, so it's great to have options out there to help us not just keep an eye on our home but business as well. This camera by amcrest was a welcomed surprise for me. It's a tad pricier than i expected to pay for an indoor camera, but the set-up and quality is really good. . Someone like myself who is not that technical can get it set up in about 15 minutes. The instructions are really easy to follow, so i suggest you start there to familiarize yourself with the camera. Mine has to be connected via ethernet cable which one does come with the camera. I needed to get a larger one for my home, because of where my router is located. Once i was able to get that situated you plug the camera up, it does its little turning dance and then you are all set to begin. . I like that it is easy to get a live view, adjust the camera from my smartphone and even see in the dark. It's really a high quality camera, and i would say that this is a lot of what you are paying for. . Easy to use and makes checking in on what matters to you easy as well, amcrest has a new satisfied customer.

This is for the ip2m-846eb dome camera. Surprisingly, it wasn't too difficult to install/setup. But still not a process for a novice. Unless. You use, and only use, a smartphone with wifi capabilities that connects to your network. *note: the ip2m-846eb is not "wi-fi" capable, but is a poe camera that may either be powered by a poe injector or plugged into a switch with poe ports or with the 10ft power cord that comes with it. Also the camera has the ability to do a "digital' zoom. But, i'm pretty sure the 4x zoom it comes with it is optical as stated. I certainly can't see any difference in pixel quality when zoomed in (see pix). Finally, i almost returned this camera unopened, as i may do with 3 others i purchased and as i did with one other, simply because of the inability of that camera to connect through wifi. The instructions have you connecting with your phone. Which is fine, if that's all you want to do, or is something that is important to be able to do. But i wanted to be able to connect to the camera on the lan and record it using blue iris as i'm doing with several other different systems. I haven't opened the other 3, completely different indoor cams, but from this same company, so i'm reserving my opinion until then. But, i'm pretty sure my sad experience with the first, 3mp, wi-fi (not! ), bullet cam has tainted this review. The one star off here tho is from the difficulty of getting through the system to add stuff, and the help system, which is quite extensive, but not too helpful since none of the screenshots match the software this camera uses, nor has things in the same places. If you're a novice, expect this to be an all day effort. Oh, and. It's difficult to work with windows 10. The 'web interface' isn't within a browser, but a separate popup that must be typed into every single time you want to use it. Otherwise, there seems to be a ton of things it will do, and i'm looking forward to seeing if they actually will work. Good picture too. (pictures attached show zoomed out all the way and zoomed in completely. )

This is a nice security camera. It has some great features, and it has a few drawbacks. Lets start with the drawbacks. . Drawbacks. . 1. Powered by poe - this means powered by ethernet. The cable needs to plug directly into a router or wifi broadcaster, that has powered ethernet. I'm not sure at what point the routers started to be powered (apparently so you wouldn't have to plug your wifi broadcaster into an electrical outlet), however my router doesn't have poe. So, i need to use a 12 volt adapter, and plug that in, as well as plug into my router. 2. Does not have wifi - the image from the camera goes into the internet, by plugging directly into your router. So, you need to find a very long internet service wire, or have your router within a couple feet of where the camera will be mounted, or use a wifi repeater. (with an ethernet outlet. ) i suppose the repeater will work, but i didn't test that. 3. Software problems - the app for this camera isn't all that great. And the included dvd with the system software, wasn't read by my computer. So i wasn't able to hook it up on my own. Thankfully, they have great phone support. You call them up (i got leo on the phone), and they link into your computer. I kept getting this message, when i'd try to upload their program:. "the signature of the p2p surveillance is corrupt or invalid. ". The phone helper will override that, and install anyway. Then, you set up a camera name, and a password, then give them your email. That's it. 4. Camera angle is stationary - this camera does not move via remote control. . Advantages. 1. Excellent wide angle image - its high def, so there's a big bandwidth. Some people complain that the image drains their cell phone battery. Well, whatever. You can zoom in, and see details. I have the camera mounted on a second story window, over the back door. I can see details of the leaves, on the porch. Its in color in daytime, and at night, it has infrared lights. So, you see excellent at night. I would guess the range of the infrared lights to be about what you'd expect from a 50 watt light bulb. The illumination is about that bright. Also, the wide angle lens brings in about 30 feet or more of ground image. It all depends on how you install. So before you install this, definitely get the camera up and running first. That way, you know what the image looks like, before you screw it onto the wood. 2. Many viewing options - i can watch in real time, the image on my smartphone, with the app. Or, i can go to the website, and see the image. Or, i can turn on the motion detector. Each time the camera senses motion, it records 30 seconds of the image on the cloud. Then, you get an email saying motion was detected. Now i know when the bat flies by the back door. (maybe just turn the motion detector off, except when you are away from home. ) you can zoom in with the image quite a bit, since its a hi def camera. 3. Waterproof - not many of them are. The thing about infrared light, it wont shine thru a windowpane. You just get reflection off the windowpane at night. So, you need a waterproof camera to get outside imagery at nighttime. This camera is waterproof, and well constructed. 4. Phone tech support - this makes all the difference. Especially with software that has a glitch in it, or has a problem downloading. Maybe some people know enough to override the invalid signature, but i don't. Don't start with downloading the app, coz that wont work. You need to start with downloading the program into your computer. If it wont work, just call up amcrest tech support to do it for you. After that, you download the app into your phone. Then, you can sign up for the cloud service, that makes the recordings of movements. . Conclusions. As long as you can get an ethernet cable, and possibly a 12 volt power supply (or a poe adapter) to the place where you want this camera, you are fine. It is not wifi, so it must be plugged directly into the ethernet. I was lucky in that my desk with the router and wifi tower, is directly next to the window that hangs directly over my back door. So, i can place the camera where i want it, within 3 feet of the router. If i needed a long cable, or amcrest didn't have good telephone tech support, i don't think i'd be as enthusiastic with the product. However, so far i'm pleased with the functionality of the camera, and the software. . I was provided a product for free or greatly reduced in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

Many people gave good review to this camera so i purchase one for my home surveillance setup. However, i might have received a bad one. It always responded "resource limited, cannot get video" warning message before video showed up. And it responded slowly to the web configuration. The other amcrest ip3m-94e bullet camera that i ordered at the same time didn't have such problem. So i have to return this camera. Hope this is just one of the malfunction camera that slip through their qa test. I'll stick with ip3m-954e.

The quality of the camera feed is great for the price. If you're tech savvy you won't have a problem finding the ip of the camera on your network, and configuring through the web interface is straightforward. I can't comment on the app or remote viewing because i haven't used it at all. I have 4 of these being monitored by a zoneminder box i put together and they work great with that application. I would have given 5 stars, but the documentation is terrible. If you're not technically inclined you might have trouble. Another reason for the rating hit is 1 of the cameras i received was either used or had some test configuration from the factory that hadn't been wiped. It came out of the box with a static ip and the web portal wouldn't load. To fix it, i had to do a factory reset. The factory reset process for this camera is not in any of the documentation, nor is it anywhere on the support section of the amcrest website. I had to contact their support team who eventually got back to me with instructions on how to do it. The process for factory reset is pretty ridiculous. I had to open up the camera and short two contacts on one of the circuit boards. There is no way the average consumer will be able to do this.

Technical support was very good (owen lucas). I mounted the camera on an external vertical wall. Tilt up and down works good. Panning left and right does not work with the way i mounted it on a vertical wall. All arrows except (the up and down arrows (tilt arrows)) turn the image clockwise or counterclockwise in small increments. I would like to pan left to right or right to left and tilt up and down as needed. Flip only turns the image 180 degrees. It does not flip 90 degrees clockwise or 90 degrees counterclockwise. Since it does not pan left to right or right to left like i want it to, i am giving the camera a 2 star.

Pros:. . -the hardware is fairly good. -motion detection. -picture quality. -price. . Cons:. . -the software and documentation of the software is terrible. Maybe they invested all their effort in the stupid app. I don't know because my use case depends on the desktop software working well and it doesn't. In a short period of time i found numerous bugs (mostly minor) in their web interface and an abundance of undocumented or poorly documented features. . The desktop client, "amcrest surveillance pro" was worse. Is this a serious piece of software or is this a download they forgot to remove from their website? who knows. . -storage: ftp (not sftp) is the only option offered on this model and the files it creates are a proprietary . Dav file. As far as i can tell is only supported in their proprietary video player. What! ? ! why! ? ! surprisingly their player does actually work and plays their files but why would i want to install yet another piece of software when . Mp4 is almost universally supported. Further, how am i expected to get these files to play in the web applications i create? their forums have promised an update to . Mp4 for years. Apparently some models have . Mp4 but not this one. For me this makes the camera useless. . I'm disappointed. I planned to setup my entire property with these cameras but the software limitations make this a no go. All i really needed was some kind of playable file format, . Mp4 would have been fine. . It's really a sad sight to see as a good piece of hardware is hobbled by perplexing software decisions.

I own several ip2m-842 wireless cameras. They all allow the ability to rotate the camera on the post attached to the camera as well as the ability to rotate the stem connected to the base so the camera can also be adjusted up and down or side to side at any position depending on how the stem connected to the base is oriented. In other words, you can mount the base to the wall in any position and have complete freedom to adjust the camera in all directions. The picture of the camera on online store's site as well as amcrest's site shows a camera mount for the ip2m-842e with this ability. In fact the picture on the box the camera came in shows a mount that is fully adjustable. Amcrest appears to have come out with a new camera using the same model number but with a cheaper price and with the ability to fully adjust the camera removed. You can still rotate the camera on the stem attached to the camera. However, you are limited, once you mount the camera, to only being able to adjust it one direction because the stem attached to the base no longer rotates. . For example, the proper way to mount this camera outdoors is to mount the base in such a way that the wire comes out of the base at the bottom. This makes it harder for water to enter the camera through the wire. There are three screws used to mount it. One screw goes at the top and the other two go at the base of a triangle formed by the three screws. Doing that puts the slot for the wire at the bottom. However, once mounted that way you can only move the camera up and down. The only way to adjust the camera, other than just rotating it, is to mount the camera on the wall in such a way that you can move it up or down or side to side in only one direction. This may work fine if you are pointing the camera straight ahead. However, i have mounted a number of cameras around my home and all of them require an adjustment on more than one axis. . The other issue i have with this camera is the amcrest website has a firmware update to download and it says the camera requires a hard reset after the update. My other amcrest cameras have two wires that you short for several seconds to perform the reset. Other cameras have access panels so a reset can be done from inside the camera. This camera has no reset wires exposed nor is there any access panel that i can find. There are no instructions on how to do the reset. . I have been happy with my other amcrest cameras. I did convert all of my wireless cameras to ethernet because the wifi is too unstable. I bought this camera to expand my system. I'm afraid it is going back.

So, i bought this camera a couple months ago to test in my home security setup. It was a good price, so i picked it up. Once i got it, though, i couldn't get it to work. This is my first interaction with amcrest cameras, so my initial assumption was operator error. . Now i've had some time to really work with it, read the documentation, and check out the support forums, nothing about this camera is as it appears. I have been able to get it to turn on, and to images through the camera, but i haven't been able turn/point/zoom the camera - no matter what hack i employ. The core issues are that amcrest's software doesn't provide any support for linux (including updated browser plugins for browsers in linux), and the api documentation does not match the actual implementation in the firmware. For reference, i'm running linux with zoneminder as my control interface. I have, however, spent several hours simply trying to use browsers and command line tools to get anything out of the camera - but nothing. . All this might be forgiveable, but amcrest, through its forums, seems either unable or unwilling to acknowledge or investigate the problem. Note that i haven't posted on the forums - only read the months-long complaints of several other users having the same issues i'm seeing. I'm happy to elaborate if anyone has more specific questions. Everything might work fine if i were running a windows setup and content to run their software to operate everything - i really don't know. . On a separate note, since i have spent so much time investigating the issue to determine to my satisfaction that "it's not me, " i'm outside the window or getting support through the vendor or getting a refund/return processed.

Very disappointed. Installed the camera connected to network. Installed latest firmware, reset to factory defaults, configured storage settings. I see files on ftp server (i. E. 10. 34. 00-10. 34. 00 r 0 0 0 . Dav ) but could not play them in acrest smart play application. Support is useless, after i explained the problem they ask to hold and never come back to me for 3 times. Will try to solve the issue but probably going to return it back.

Camera works good enough and the install was pretty simple. Customer service may as well be on existant. I have tried to purchase the 24 hour cloud storage that they apparently offer and have had no luck. The webpage and app will not lid any pages related to purchasing cloud storage plans (tried on multiple device multiple times over a 30 day period). Customer service is not helpful in that aparantly they "don't know what i'm talking about, perhaps i want the nvr". The online support was no help either. Good for 6-hour recording i guess. Don't plan on anything else.

I have not encounter such a troublesome piece of equipment in a long time, i guess you get what you paid for. I was watching this item for some time, and when i saw that online store dropped the price $100, i jumped right on it. It started good, i connected the cameras, and they worked out of the box. Then i have to try 2 hard drives, first one will not even spin (although connected to my computer was perfectly fine). The second one worked without problem. I have 2 hdmi inputs in my tv, both work perfectly when connected to my cable box and apple tv. When i re route the one in apple tv, the nvr would not even start up, if it was already running, will turn itself off. There it goes with the second hdmi (already too many issues for my patience, but i will give another try). Now time to configure the network, it is when all hell broke loose. It was getting worst by the minute. The dhcp would not get a correct ip address from my router, so i assigned a fixed one, but that broke my internet, not a single device in my house could access it until i unplugged the damn thing. I tried pretty much everything, no luck. May be a firmware update will fix the problems, but wait i could not access the internet from the nvr. Let's try from web interface then. This model is not listed in amcrest web site, so no firmware update possible. So after 3 days of trying, gave up, this thing is going back to online store, and aecrest is in my do not buy list from now on

Camera is great. Software is very lackluster, disjointed, and disappointing. If you plan to get this camera, plan to spend an extra $30 for software like blue iris or a 3rd party cam software. . Let me prefix my review by saying im a software engineer of 10+ years. I am not new to computer or uis. The camera was easy to get installed with poe, detected on my network and has good field of vision as well as color. Night vision is also acceptable on this camera. The night vision ir lights give off a low red dim glow. I assumed they would be invisible and not visible to the naked eye. They are only detectable standing within 10 feet of camera and looking head on. . The problem with this camera comes to the software. There are many ways to access the camera and configure it: desktop software, local webpage, cloud webpage, cloud app, amcrest app. The problem is, each piece of this software is not consistent with the others. The local webpage has a comprehensive suite of tools and so far seems to work the best. The problem with the webpage is that it requires a plugin and only works on ie (you can read the support forums where others have experienced the nightware only to be blown off by tech support). Some functions work in some software but they dont work in others. For example, email seems to work when set up through the local webpage, but not through desktop software. Motion detection is comprehensive through local webpage and desktop software, but configuration is useless through the apps. Upgrading to latest desktop software causes the pc-dvr to completely stop working. So in order to achieve a piece of functionality, its basically a long trial and error process using a combination of the apps to figure out what works and what doesnt. When you try to refer to the manual, you find very little actual help. Most of the labels in the software are generic and have no associated help or description so its trial and error trying to figure out which check box does what. It it obvious this documentation was written by the person who wrote the software. You can tell there is very little end user testing or feedback incorporated into the applications. This leads every complaint to be met with "call tech support" in order to try to work through the problem, and tech support will want to remote into your computer and try to diagnose the issue. No thanks. If they had spent proper time designing and testing the software, 99% of these issues and breakages would be gone. My biggest fear is when a new flaw develops and i am forced to upgrade my firmware, that it will either break my camera or screw up the software in which i will have to do the setup process all again. Its a no win with these cameras. . The cloud functionality is tied into the cloud services amcrest provides. The free tier is for 1 camera and only for motion detect events for the last 4 hours, not the last 4 hours of events captured. Its good for trying out the service but not much useful unless you check the app every 4 hours before events get wiped from cloud. . I currently use this camera to record 24-7 to a backup hard drive in my main computer. . I would personally recommend you skip this camera, and probably skip amcrest as a whole as their software is not ready for prime time.

I've got five of these scattered about our office building. What i've found is they're generally good, however lose settings if the power flickers. This is problematic as i have to check every camera to see whether they're still set up after a power event. . Four of the five work fine with a poe injector, fifth doesn't, only works with a poe switch. Same model. Not sure what is up with that but i start thinking sources may be different. . Software that comes with them is meh. I don't understand why we can't have the options when ftping it can't just push some avis instead of the format it pushes. Also doesn't work correctly on one type of ftp, we ended up having to set up an ftp inside our office building as the external that the foscams worked with the amcrest's can't and it's evidently a long running known issue. . If you're looking for an inexpensive workhorse poe camera, these are acceptable. The software and firmware need work though.

Got this camera for a good deal under $60, and have been using it a couple of days. The hardware appears to be very solid. Picture is excellent, and built-in motion detection seems reasonably reliable. . The 2-star rating is primarily due to the software and support from amcrest. The documentation is terrible and often inaccurate. The software is somewhat tough to use and difficult to set up. The support on their website is lacking. What documentation is there is good, but the forums are full of people with the same issues i've had, but no resolution from amcrest. . 1. Pc-nvr setup was conter-intuitive. You must add your pc as a new "device" for it to work. Motion detection doesn't work consistently for pc-nvr, and it is constantly streaming video to the pc. 2. Email is working, but it sends a single snapshot only. There is a feature documented to limit the frequency of email sent, but it seems to be honored arbitrarily. 3. The documentation says that this camera supports nas connection, but the support guys on the web say otherwise. 4. Pc-nvr files are not stored in a way that's reasonably accessible, if you need to do backup. Etc. 5. Connecting to the camera with onvif didn't seem to work right. The program i used couldn't get the profile. 6. The web-based video view doesn't work right in chrome, or edge. Older ie versions are ok. 7. Ftp support with motion detect will only limit recording on motion detect without any pre-record. Otherwise, its sending a constant stream of videos. 8. Videos are recorded from ftp only in dav format, which requires amcrest software to view. Directory structure for ftp cannot be controlled. 9. No ssl support whatsoever. Both ftp and are unencrypted. This may be ok on a local home network, but poses some risk if opening connections from outside. 10. Customer support was initially responsive, but went quite after asking for a firmware version (which was already latest). . All said, it will do the job once i figured out the ftp strategy. I would not buy it again. Either less money, or better software/firmware. Wish the reviews had reflected that before purchasing.

I usually don't write reviews but i have to in this case. This review is for the information provided in the online store advertisement. It is wrong. This kit does not come with two 60 foot ethernet cables and two 100 foot. It comes with four 60 foot ethernet cables. This may be a problem to some. But you're probably thinking, i could just order hundred footers separately. Well you can. But, if your running the wire directly into the wall to the interior right at the camera base then you're ok (there's a short wire coming out of the camera that the ethernet cable plugs into, that should be long enough to go through the wall). But if you're running the wire along the exterior wall for a ten foot run like i have to, then the part where the two cables plug into each other will be exposed to the elements. If you can find a way out of this, fine. But here is where it gets a little annoying. . The short wire that comes out of the camera has a special weatherproof cap that screws into the other half of the cap built onto the 60 ft cable included. Now, any ethernet cable will connect to the camera, but it won't have the weatherproof cap, leaving only half of the cap built in on the camera side. Again, not a problem if you're going straight into the wall, but kind of a problem if you're not. The pain is that even though the 60 ft cables are included with the receiving caps, amcrest will not supply more caps, or longer ethernet cables with the caps. You cannot order any kind of ethernet cable from them, even the same exact kind that comes with their kits. They just won't supply them. So in summary, if you're running the wire along exterior walls, the part where the cables connect will be exposed to the elements. You will have to tape them or put them inside some kind of housing to protect the connection.

If you want to remote view your cameras, you cannot access the nvr with chrome, firefox or internet explorer. Don't believe me? go on their forums and search for "please install plugins first" because this is the error message that keeps coming up. They will tell you to get the web view app for chrome, but guess what? it doesn't work either and gives you the same error message. The phone app works fine and the software that you have to install on your pc works as well. However, if you want to view your cameras from work or some location where you are not allowed to install their program and you just want to view remotely from the web, you won't be able to make it work. Very, very, very frustrating. Apparently this has been a known issue for quite a while. I am returning this.

If this review were for just the cameras, i'd give it 4 stars. Camera quality is ok, but the inconveniences caused by the nvr make this a difficult product to recommend. . The nvr is by far the weakest point of this product. . Word to the wise regarding remote viewing: to make the remote camera access work, it would be best to assign a static ip to the nvr and enable port forwarding to point to this ip. Otherwise you'll run into timeout issues. . Biggest complaint is that the nvr reboots on it's own even when the auto-reboot option is disabled. When this happens, remote access to the cameras is not available which is a huge problem. After the first time the nvr rebooted, connecting a monitor via the vga port randomly fails with monitors showing the "out of range" error as well. . Also, the box states that the web view access is available on "standard" windows and mac browsers. This is not true. The web view relies on an activex plugin which means it only works with internet explorer. Even so, there are random times when the login fails with no detailed explanation. Not authentication failure (in which case the error message tells you it's an authentication failure with a remaining login attempts counter), but just an ambiguous "login failed" message. Uninstalling and reinstalling the activex plugin a few times usually fixes the problem, but who in the right mind has the time or patience to do this every time the nvr reboots (even when you've disabled the auto reboot)? . . Lastly, the manufacturer highly recommend you update the firmware. This is something i would do except that the models of the camera and nvr that come in this package don't on the firmware menu.

I bought 4 of the newer ip2m-852e in october 2017. I had 1 fail on me in december, so i thought it was just a possible bad unit. I called tech support, and i was on hold for about an hour to talk to someone in india who told me to just go online an fill out an rma. There is a $15 charge to rma their faulty cameras, so be prepared for this. Today is 1/22/2018, they have received my camera since the 11th and i haven't heard anything back, can't reasonably get anyone on the phone either without a hour long hold. Yesterday i had a 2nd camera fail, and it is exhibiting the same behavior as the previous one, so it looks like i will have to pay another $15 to replace more of their faulty products. At this point i'm just waiting for the other 2 to fail eventually. This is a good camera when its working, but it doesn't seem to work for very long though. When it stops working good luck with the poor customer support.

First, the mounting. The mount is nearly impossible. To get to the back of the mount you have to literally take the camera eye apart to pull it out of socket. It then explodes into a mess of wiring and circuit boards, and the lens cap falls off. To get the eye apart you have to unscrew two screws from behind the mount. But if you mount it to something, you can't exactly do that can you? i ended up doing a terrible mount job with a wooden conversion plate and some spring anchors and a crapload of caulk. It looks ok and is solid, but man what a pain. . Next, the software. Requires a special plugin for your browser that chrome and firefox hate. I can only get it to really work in internet explorer. The passwords break when they get too long. It is a good thing i had set up multiple accounts. The phone app used to work, but now doesn't connect. . Anyway, i bought two of these. After the mounting nightmare one of them is getting returned. The other will stay up until it stops working or i just get too angry with the software. Do not buy.

I am very pleased with this camera. The picture is great. The reason for the 3 stars is do to when i received the camera i noticed the lens or front had a gap on one side. I unscrewed it and it was cross threaded on. I didn't feel like dealing with sending it back so i took a small file and filed down some of the bad parts on the thread so it would sit as it should. I have had the camera stop recording a few times as well. This was fixed by scheduling a nightly reboot. Still over all i am happy with the product and plan on buying the a whole nvr setup soon. I just hope the quality control for it is a little better.

Don't buy these cameras unless you love to spend days upon days upon days troubleshooting. Every time the power goes out which happens a lot in my neighborhood, something gets completely messed up and i spend days and days fixing it again. After spending the entire winter troubleshooting all my various problems, i'm still stuck with cameras that won't email me when there's movement (tried everything), and i've never been able to get the app to allow me to view the live feeds unless i'm on site. Yes i've read everything out there on the internet about how to fix it, yes i've talked to customer support, yes i've tried this yes i've tried that. With my latest power outage, the entire system changed ip addresses on me which took me hours to figure out, and only one of my three cameras i've set up has come back online. The app is completely down now and no amount of resetting is fixing it. I'm now going to need to spend money to hire a professional to come in here to sort out these problems. . When they work, they're very helpful and i feel very secure. But dang, what a giant pain in the but these are.

First off, if you are looking for a system you can unbox, install and record video after a few easy setup steps, then this system is for you. If you are interested in exploring options such as dhcp versus static ip, dns, firmware updates, reliable internet connection etc. Etc, then you may experience bugs. Maybe i had a lemon but i don't think so. . I really wanted to like this system. It's exactly what i needed. I'm a tech savvy person and the more involved i got with the system software settings and features the more buggy the system became. I could write a page of details but here are a few things that i found wrong. I had the latest firmware. . (1) it sometimes would not sync one of the cameras. I'd have to manually add it after every reboot. A reset to factory default seem to fix that issue though, so apparently one of the settings i did caused this bug to occur. (2) would not maintain a stable internet connection. The included ping test feature would sometimes fail to connect. All other devices on my network don't have this issue. This happens on dhcp or a static ip. (3) one of the on screen camera views was always lagging a few seconds, while the other three were spot on. (4) removing a usb thumb drive almost always causes the mouse and screen to freeze. And sometimes inserting one would do the same. Who knows if it was still recording or not. A cold reboot was the only option (which could possible corrupt files). (5) never could get dyndns to setup and it would never tell me what was wrong. A click of apply/save does nothing. No can't connect message or anything. (6) the manual pretty much covers everything but you are left to wonder what certain features even do. Some settings have no detail on what they are actually for; just how to set them. . The cameras are good and provide a nice view. I setup the system in my living room before i was going to run wires and install the cameras on the outside. I'm so glad i did this and recommend you do the same. I don't have time to call and wait for hours, possibly days on amcrest support to attempt to fix issues which shouldn't even exist. Not sure what to do at this point as far as what to buy next. I researched systems at a comfortable price range and settled on this one. Nonetheless, this system will be shipped back. . I'm giving it two starts because of the build quality and level of effort in the software and manual, as well as the successful motion detection emails (only in my living room though). But just barely two stars.

Q. Shirley, Midi-Pyrenees says

Just be aware that this particular 4ch nvr being sold as a bundle with this kit "will be under-powered" if you want to run you 1. 3mp cameras at full 960p resolution. You cannot even run one camera at 960p resolution without seeing the results effecting this nvr. Amcrest simply should have sold 1mp camera's with this unit. Maybe some people may feel i'm just being picky, but felt i should have been able to operate this system with the camera's at their native resolution. Their marketing material makes it sound like it can do more than it actual can. . What was happening? the clock on camera 4 would skip ahead every 2 seconds. This resulted in any motion capture look "really jerky". However, playing back any recordings from "all four" cameras skipped ahead every 2 seconds! but, this never would happen on the android app. I however am using a 24" color monitor and cannot live with this jerky motion. The only way to resolve this issue complete is to lower the camera's resolution from 960p to 720p. Not 1 camera, or 2, or even 3, but all 4 cameras have to be turned down. . Aside from this issue, everything else went well. The images looked sharp and clear. Installing, connecting and using the android app was a snap! wished i could say i was impressed with amcrest customer service, but i cannot, i kinda of have a bad taste in my mouth on this one. But hey, overall i liked the system enough that i just sent this system back and got the amcrest system with the more powerful nvr, and i can differently tell the difference.

. Carrie, Hessen

I purchased 2 of these and both have the same issue. The camera seems fine until connected to an onvif nvr. Once connected, the camera is unresponsive to local login requested, which do work after several minutes to get to login page, then several more minutes to actually log in. It also will not pull up in the amcrest view pro app and the video stream on the nvr has dropouts every few minutes. The first tech insisted that it was due to my wireless channel or my internet bandwidth speed. After arguing with him(how could wireless channel effect a wired camera, and isp bandwidth effect local access? ), i got escalated to a senior tech via callback. I got an rma on the first camera, and am waiting to hear back on the second. 2 for 2 failure rate is not acceptable. I have other amcrest cameras(various models) that all work fine. I feel that this is most likely a firmware issue, it hasn't been updated since 8-2016.

Never, never, never purchase any product from amcrest! i have spend, literally, months on the phone with the company trying to get this camera to work. I have spoken with customer service agents, technical support agents, managers, everything. You name it, i have spoken to them. I was very flexible with the product. First, i was trying to get it to function as a stand alone poe device. They took over my computer remotely and were not able to do so. They had me do a hardware reset, which involves taking the whole camera apart. It sill didn't work. Then, i purchased the amcrest nvr to go along with it and tried to get the camera to work in conjunction with the nvr. It took several hour-long calls to their technical support and customer support, which is located in india. Once, they took over my computer remotely, changed setting and promised to call me back by the end of the business day. That call never came. Instead, i had 30' ladder set up on the side of my house, holes in my brick to a camera that wasn't functioning, and a computer with compromised security settings. The one time i was able to make progress, i was miraculously transferred to a customer service agent in the states. She promised to send me a new camera in exchange for my old camera. I followed through with the exchange. Then the new camera did not work! i spend another round of hell talking to the people from india before it was finally clear to me that the nvr was bad, not the camera. I have since returned the nvr and have a $100 hard drive sitting in the closet that i can no longer return. Then, to my horror, i noticed on the package they sent to me that the "new" camera they replaced with my old one was a refurbished camera! but, wait, it gets even better. After i noticed this and am not able to get the refurbished camera to work, i called amcrest back and spoke with a help desk specialist. I explained my woes for the bjillionth time and was asked what amcrest could do for me. I told him that i really didn't want to mess with anything any more. I really would just like another (actually new) camera that i could salvage some money from. Possibly return to online store (although i'm waaay past the return policy time frame at this time) or maybe sell on ebay. This guy actually made is sound like amcrest was going to do that for me! wow! what a pleasant surprise! then, as i should have expected, i get a message from another customer service agent asking for the old camera to be return. Well, sir, now i find amcrest to be misleading on top of unprofessional and incompetent because you're asking me to get out the 30' ladder again, unmount the camera, and do tuckpointing work to repair what damage was done on the side of our house. That doesn't exactly follow my idea of "being done with it. ". . It is worth noting that amcrest did get the camera to work for an 8 hour period before it stopped working (which is why i felt comfortable re-mounting the darn camera). It is also worth noting that i am a very happy customer for 99. 99% of the products i purchase off online store. This is the only negative review i have ever written. I just would not want to wish this upon anyone else.

Documentation train-wreak. . Likes:. Worked well for the price until i tried to log back in. . Dislikes:. Instructions only contain mounting instructions for a bullet camera. Instructions and software do not warn you not to use special characters in the password. The camera accepts the special characters, but then you can not log in later. The camera will lock the admin account when you use special characters in the password and try to log in. Poor documentation

I'm surprised this camera received so many good reviews. They're decent cameras but their software flat out didn't work for me and it refused to integrate with any third part monitor/recording software. . This was a good camera, unfortunately there was a couple of minor shortcomings that forced me to return it. . Pros:. - camera was easy to setup. - excellent video quality. - email photo, record etc. . Cons:. - amcrest surveillance pro software is horrific. I couldnt get the nvr feature to even work. Called support several times, got one call to explain the issue, never called back. - the one above wouldn't have been a dealbreaker if this camera integrated with any other ip camera nvr/monitoring software. I tried ispy and xprotect. Xprotect couldnt even connect to it and ispy just lagged out the camera on connection. . Save yourself the hassle and get hikvision cameras, bought four and they work like a charm

After owning this camera for a few months now, i have to say, that it is by far my best camera. I happen to get this thing on a "prime days" deal and it was only like $45. Total win. However, i have to warn all potential owners about a serious security concern with this camera: i don't know what this camera wants to do on the internet. If i cared enough, i could set up a lab and find out, but i can write a simple acl to take care of its' hunger for the internet. Background:. Most of these cameras now days have some sort of "cloud stream/storage" app out there or website to log into to view your camera over the internet. Which provides a great service to those who want a easy plug and play solution to remote viewing of something. Discussion:. Please don't do it! unless you literally could care less that anyone on earth could view what is seen by this camera, then do not just plug and play this camera. Anyone who thinks they are tech savy enough to buy this camera should know already that anything put out to the internet is for all intent and purposes, wide open. So if you do not plan on blocking this camera from accessing the internet i am asking you not to buy this camera. I put this camera on my network and my outer firewall instantly started getting hits for this camera accessing the internet, which the manufacture would way is by design. However, its not the fact that is tried, its the amount that it is feverishly trying to send something. My outer firewall logs roughly 7500 attempts an hour to reach out to the internet. That's over 2 times a second. (my 4 other hikvision cameras try about once an hour for perspective). So lets say for the sake of argument that this is buy design to "enhance the customer experience" (as apple would say). Then why does it randomize its source port, trying just about every port from 3000 - 6000 as if its hoping one would let it though? . Sure, this could be innocent internet "feedback" traffic for the manufacture or for the app's cloud solution but i have tried through the gui to disable every thing i could think of so this camera would stop trying to access the internet. I couldn't get it to. Which makes one wonder. What is it trying to send that they wouldn't want you to be able to turn off? . Honestly i don't care to put in the effort to figure it out. Because there are a few things you can do to stop anything i have seen this camera try. 1: write an acl to block it at the lowest level. Cisco example:. (camera is 192. 168. 1. 10). Ip access-list exended block cam. Permit ip host 192. 168. 1. 10 192. 168. 1. 0 255. 255. 255. 0. Deny ip host 192. 168. 1. 10 any. Permit ip any any. Then go into the camera and set the dns to a black hole(i. E. An unused address on your network). . That seems to stop everything i have seen out of this camera. But it is still fully functional from the internal networks and using the app on a phone when not coming from the internet. . Really. I don't write reviews. But i feel strongly enough that i don't think people should put this in their babies room as a nanny cam then have it go out to the internet without locking it down to internal use only, because who knows what it is trying to do, or who could access it. . So. Besides that. The camera works fantastic! app is pretty responsive and works over a vpn like a champ. Multicast works great as well. . If there was an option to set this camera to not access the internet or limit its traffic. It would be 5 stars.

The product does not work. The product arrived with no network cable and no power supply. After buying the cable and power supply, and working on trying to connect it, it seems that the product does not turn on. Not that it would have helped me as it did not come with a qr code which defines the camera and connects to the app. Waste of time and money.

I have purchased several (good) cameras from amcrest, so when i saw this i was quick to pick one up. First thing to say is that this camera is quite a bit bigger than their other ptz cameras in the same class. I was a bit surprised by the size (see picture), but the fit and finish are just fine. Just be ready for this one to not be as "stealthy" as it smaller cousins. . But size is not really the issue. The problem is with how the camera zoom and auto-focus work. For some inexplicable reason, the camera constantly will zoom and refocus on it's own without any input from the user. There are several settings in the camera setup, but none of them seem to fix this issue. And i've searched for updated firmware, but so far no luck. The picture quality is good, with nice colors and sharpness, and the ptz controls are responsive. It also works very well with blue iris so no issues there. The other quite disturbing problem with this camera, is the noises it makes. When you pan/zoom/tilt the camera, it will make a quite audible high pitched whining sound, that continues to raise in pitch almost to the point where you think it might "pop" or burn out. . I'm still deciding whether to return this camera or not. But hopefully this information will help others who are on the fence about it. I would stay clear if i were you. -. . Update 8/2/17: i was able to update the camera to the new firmware and the autofocus issues have gone away. Overall, its a decent camera. But i think i will continue to purchase the smaller (non-zooming) ptz's as they are a better fit for my needs.
