Review for ultrahd x network poe video security

Price was $439.99. The camera performs very well and was easily added to my synology nas (surveillance station) configuration, so i bought a second camera. Hoping to add a third or fourth in the near future. It's a great option for someone who doesn't want to be tied to a specific dvr solution and wants the flexibility of having an ip camera. I don't use many of the onboard features and allow surveillance station to do most of the work.

Preamble

Very satisfied with my amcrest security system. The 3 mp cameras are crystal clear, and playback is very user friendly. The poe ( power over ethernet ) makes installation easy. I did the install of 8 cameras myself with no trouble. I did have one defective camera which amcrest replaced in a timely manner. I would reccomend this system highly. Amcrest Ultrahd 3-megapixel 2048 X 1536p 8ch Network Poe Video Security System Nvr Kit - Four 3mp Poe Outdoor Bullet Ip Cameras, 98ft Night Vision, Hdd Not Included, Power Over Ethernet Black Review (amnv30m8 4b b)

Camera is pretty interesting to set up, lots of customization options. However, this specific model does not have micro-sd support. This means that the only local storage options you have are the nvr, if you choose to set that up. This is perplexing as the user manual on the amcrest site for this model has the guide to configure sd card recording. Never does it exclude this model from that feature. And there actually is a slot for it on the camera. Even more confusing. Tech support that maybe in the future this option will be enabled. This camera is not new. Its at least 1- 2 years old. When the hell will it get that. All other features are great. But for the security minded, local (or in network) recording is the only option, so you'll have to get the nvr. This makes the cost of the camera add up really fast. No longer is it a cheap $100 camera (with potential sd card cost) . Now you either pay for the cloud (free is only 4 hours worth) or you build out an nvr. The latter can run you into the $300 range. With time to setup. -S. Mary

PROS
  • I really can't say any more than what's already been said by everyone else. They are good cameras for their price point. I have two of these cameras and they work well. But longevity is the bigger question. And i'm wondering how they'll do. During the frosty winters. . I run two of these outside; one for the front door/entry way and the other for the driveway. I'll be adding another for the back yard/back door eventually. . Here's my equipment config that's working well so far:. . 1. Two of these cameras set to 1080p. 2. Tp-link 8-port poe switch (4 poe / 4 regular). 3. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless media bridge mode. 4. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless router mode. 5. Old dell dimension 9100 pentium d 2. 8ghz w/4gb ram. 6. Blue iris software set to record "direct-to-disk". . My setup works decently well. Cpu usage stays around 50%-60% during the day and around 30%-40% at night time (black and white). Adding a third camera though will most likely require a computer upgrade. . The cameras have good color during the day time and during the night i switch them over to black and white. The ir range on them is a bit limited but is adequate for i use them for. One word of caution, to get the most out of the ir don't have something in the cameras field of view that is bright in color as it will wash out the picture at night time and cause darker areas to be even darker. Using the ir in my driveway looks far better than the ir in the entry way that is surrounded by yellow siding from the house. But, the camera app software does provide you with enough settings to tweak to get the image almost where you need it. . This is my first foray into security cameras and they seem to do the job perfectly. But, how long will they last?
  • Great camera for the price. Note that if you need / want 30 fps you can only use it as a 2mp (or less) camera so in my opinion for personal use there is no point of getting a much more expensive 4mp camera, also it takes too much space if recording in continue (3m has a max of 20 fps). Night vision is ok but not great though i do not have other cameras to compare it to, i find that ir mode is not good because if there is light around it will trigger all the time with bugs flying and rain. I turned off ir and use color vision at night it works much better, as long as there is enough light around.
CONS
  • If you should need support, your in big trouble. They only offer email support. Installing and porting can be very difficult if your not computer programing smart. I would avoid buying this brand because they have no telephone support to help you install their product. This company was once called foscam us and they would provide excellent support and if necessary they took remote control of your computer and programed all your foscam cameras for you. Now that's support !
  • I ordered two of the prohd 3mp vandal-proof outdoor dome cameras. When taking the dome cover off to mount the first camera i had difficulity getting one of the torx head screws to back out, turns out it was cross-threaded from the factory (i had read that others has this issue). I was able to get it backed out to remove the dome and mount the camera. When mounting the unit (which in hind sight i should not have done) the screw was also tight going in but secure, the issue is there is now no getting it back out as the soft metal of the torx screw is toast. Fortunately i had the camera set where it needed to be. Then i moved on to the next camera thinking this was an isolated issue. Wrong! the next camera had the exact same issue! this time i was unable to remove the dome as the torx head shredded. I boxed it back up and it is going back (would have done the same to the other, except i will have to use a sawsall to get it down, and that can wait for now. I gave this camera 3 stars because the picture, and ir night performance is very good, as is the integration with blue iris and alexa. I can only hope that it lasts longer than a couple of months. I think the primary issue with the screws getting cross-threaded has to do with the soft metal of the base, combined with probably a machine installing the dome screws. The fact that both has the same issue is enough for me to try a different brand.
  • The good: the video quality is excellent, and it's a fully-featured ip camera. I've had many over the years and this one is pretty good. . The bad: it only stores video files in . Dav format, which is not supported by most media players. So you have to convert the stored video clips into . Mp4, . Avi, or something else that your pc will be able to decode. That's an extra (and painful) step that i don't want to deal with. Amcrest has mobile apps that will display those files on an android or apple device, but i can't find any way to conveniently view the recordings on a pc. . Also, the user manual is pathetic - completely unhelpful, and full of errors. For example:. - login anonymously: this checkbox allows the user to anonymously login to the server. - username: this checkbox allows the user to anonymously login to the server. Not only is the 2nd line a duplicate of the first and completely irrelevant to the topic, but the description merely states the obvious and doesn't add anything of value. This is common throughout the manual. And there are no examples given anywhere to show how to set things up properly. . I'm returning mine. I'll look for an ip camera that stores the video clips in a more standard . Mp4 format.

ultrahd x network poe video security Amcrest UltraHD 3-Megapixel (2048 x 1536P) 8Ch Network POE Video Security System (NVR Kit) - Four 3MP POE Outdoor Bullet IP Cameras, 98ft Night Vision, HDD Not Included, Power over Ethernet (Black) (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

I recently got an amcrest ip2m-842e (1080p) and liked it so much, i bought the next higher resolution version ip3m-954e (1296p). Overall, both are great, but in performing some comparisons looking at same field of view (side by side), some observations:. . - software stack solid, 100% access every time from firefox. Lots of features. Does not drop link like my foscam poe's do. Snapshot and zoom function nice feature and how they are seamlessly integrated with pc. - synology nas surveillance station compliant (even 954e although not listed on synology compatibility chart, have to run camera in 1080p mode to make it work). - in full resolution mode for both cameras (1080p vs 1296p), noted the field of view for 954e actually less than 842e, although specs say wider. - 842e seems slightly more clear than 954e, can not discern any noticable resolution difference even when zoomed on same object and attempt to read large text with object. - is it work the extra $20? your call, but i am not seeing anything signficantly different between the two. . Bottom line - solid ip cameras. After failed attempts with other vendors (samsung, netgear), will be staying with amcrest for now. Wish they had a small profile poe inside camera, only offer a wireless version.

I didn't use included software, doesn't work well with nvr, but includes a pc-nvr solution. I had an issue originally with nvms7000, it wasn't the camera, but an encoding issue with the software. I have since updated the software to its latest version, and the issue has resolved itself."

(0) Question: Is this camera stationary or can you remote control to move the camera around if you need to be?

(1) Question: For pc client viewing, which browsers are supported (ie, firefox, chrome, . )?

(2) Question: Are the 3mp poe cameras made of metal or plastic? i have seen that the 4mp poe cameras are made of metal but have not seen any info on the 3mp.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

As usual, western digital designed this drive for constant sustained write abuse. The most impressive feature, it's really quiet! . I'm using this in a security camera system dvr. I think by the sounds of it, should last a really long time. I just love their drives. I have some that are over 7 years old and running 24/7 they just keep on ticking and take a licking ! . So far so good! i bought this to upgrade the existing wd caviar green drive in our laview security camera dvr, since it was only 500gb. That fills up pretty quickly once you add more cameras and max out the video quality. I picked the wd purple drive since it is described as being surveillance-grade and built for 24/7 use. Hopefully it holds up to that and lasts for a while. I have a caviar black in one of our tivos, and another caviar black in my thinkpad laptop. No problems with wd drives so far.

- O. WimbishWe buy these for our surveillance dvrs with 16 hd cameras. Have been using them since they came out and simply love them. Less expensive than the wd black and very reliable! . We have used 1, 2, and 3 tb up to now. Our software does not support the other large sizes. . We have been building computers since 2001 and find that wester digital is the most reliable and dependable hdd out there. Period.

So far so good. I got this hardrive for my blue iris security cam system. Ive had no problems or and video glitches. . *update*. I found an issue writing directly to the drive from the cameras. The files are 100% fragmented and cause glitches in recording as the drive fills up. Im not sure i would blame the drive though. My solution was to get a small 128 gb ssd to use for the "new" folder in blue iris, then set the "storage" folder to the wd drive. Since i have done this i have not had any more issues.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

This hard drive is better than the one you might probably get when you buy an dvr system. It was an upgrade to the drive that failed in my surveillance system, and has been working great since i installed it. Picture quality is better on playback also. -Notice from U. Susana, South Australia

I needed to upgrade my tivo hard drive and after doing some research i decided on a survelillance drive as it is made for large video files and is made for fairly continuous operation. With 3tb of space i don't have to worry about shows being deleted. I can save all episodes of futurama and other favorites. Drive seems quiet and after a couple of months, i have had zero issues. So far so good.

- T. ParkerThis drive has performed flawlessly in my surveillance since it's purchase. I have 6 other wd purple drives and they are all functioning perfect.

I purchased this drive to go with my new netgear centria n900 dual band gigabit wireless router with 3. 5" storage bay (wndr4700). I have this set up as an internal wireless lan at my home and store all my video and music content on this drive. With the n900 wireless this does for me more than any dvr out there can since i can access it from any device in my house including my desktop. Great combination. My plan is to add in a couple wireless surveillance cameras to the setup in the near future, and i expect it to continue to work just as good for that purpose as it does for my multimedia streaming.

I bought this to monitor my front door. It works very well. It has a web interface to configure everything. If you point it to an ftp server, you can have it record video. This amcrest ip2m-844e has been the perfect camera for my needs for a decent poe camera at a good price. The camera will do full 1080p at 30fps, which is perfect for home or business users. The camera is easy to install using the separate poe injector or using a poe switch. My camera immediately pulled a dhcp address and i was able to log into the web interface and make the configuration changes i needed to make. You can access the camera in many different ways: via the web, an app on your smartphone, or a windows application. All three methods worked well in my experience and i was happy with the software side of the camera. . The hardware is very sturdy, and the camera seems to be built to last. I had no issues using the supplied mounting template to get my camera mounted and operational. I am using a third party application to monitor my cameras via the rtsp feed. The one single issue i had was trying to get the camera out of the mount. It is a very tight fit but will come out with some coaxing and no tools are needed. This is not detailed anywhere in the manual or online. . This camera is perfect for the home user (or business on a budget) that is looking for a simple and high quality poe camera. I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review, but i will be purchasing another for the back yard of my home.

Amcrest-security-weatherproof-smartphone-included-(amnv20m8-4b-b) set picture

- . LorenzI'm really impressed with the video quality, ir lights / night vision range, and ease of setup. Don't get me wrong, running an ethernet cable through the attic in the middle of summer isn't fun. But i'm really glad i installed this camera. . I have added three images, the camera is about 40' away from an 18' diameter above ground pool. 1. The first picture is in bright daylight. 2. The second is at dusk but honestly looks like a black and white video stream in daylight. 3. The third is at night with the ir lights on. . I'm sure the picture with the ir lights on would be better if so much of it wasn't reflecting off of the house.

I have three of these and all have performed great with no issues. Two are outdoors under eaves and one is inside the garage. The cameras that are outdoors do get exposed to rare rain when strong wind blows it at an angle and this has not caused any issues. We also had some extremely humid weather for several days and this did not cause any issues either. . These cameras are smaller than i expected. I went from old foscam bullet cameras that were larger than a soda can. The old foscam cameras had a few rows of infrared leds so i expected this amcrest camera with one row to not have as good of night vision. However, this was not the case. This camera does just fine after dark. Seems like the led technology has improved. . The firmware used with these cameras is quite good and much more polished than foscam cameras. Amcrest also offers free surveillance software that works quite well. I believe amcrest purchased my favorite surveillance software blue iris and it may have been the base code for their program (this is just speculation). However, the amcrest program is much more basic than blue iris and i believe it will only work with amcrest cameras. All of this is fine with me since it is free, works well, and i really like amcrest cameras. I have used amcrest cameras and software for others and it is working flawlessly. . All this would not make for five stars if the picture was not good, and it certainly is. I know there are higher resolution cameras, but 1080p is just fine for most uses. I mostly view my camera remotely, so that feed is not 1080p and it looks good. I am amazed at the video when i view it from the computer running blue iris. I think it would be hard to find a better camera for the price.

The user interface is very intuitive. I haven't yet played with the recording feature, but so far this cam is an a+ and for the price, you can't beat it.

I have not purchased this yet but will be as a baby monitor. I want to clear up some things that people are saying about this product that does not make sense. . 1: poe power over ethernet. This means that you will need a switch that supplies power over your ethernet cable. When buying a switch, just look for one that says poe. You can find some nice used cisco switch for $25. People are calling it power over internet for some reason. This has nothing to do with the internet nor does the camera require the internet. Just needs access to your network. (intranet). Only time you need internet is if you want to access it from away from your house. . 2: security. This camera is most likely not used in a business environment. If so, they are cheap. This is meant, in my opinion, for home use. It need a storage device that is not password protected in order to store video. Unless you are spying on your family, this is not a problem. Someone would need to break into your home, figure out your cameras, find out that they are being recorded, hope it isn't password protected, and take the storage device. Very unlikely to figure out. Plus, if anyone is going to rob you, they will most likely take the password protected devices you use anyway. So not a problem. If this really bothers you, there are. Ways around it. Like having it save to an unprotected device, then have that device automatically backup to a secure device. They also have programs for free that will not only back it up, but then erase the data automatically from the unsecured device. . 3: flickering between night and day. A simple adjustment to the shutter speed fixes that issue. No problem. . I am a ccie in route switch. I have been working in networking for over 15 years.

very nice ip camera. I have several of these and they are awesome! . . Ultra clear and bright video camera. I trust these cameras so much, that i have installed them at my other rental property to keep an eye on the outdoor landscaping. . I also use them indoor - as well as outdoor under my soffits, and they have been working really well. I know these weren't built for outdoor but i like to mount them on the outside corners of my home so that i can use the pan-tilt feature to look around the corners if needed. . Watch my video and see where i have them mounted and how i monitor them with the blue iris software. They work really well with the blue iris monitoring and recording software. I have had most of my cameras from amcrest for over a year now, and i purchased more this year. -Notice from J. Patricia, Peterborough

Hats off to amcrest for making a very high quality poe camera at an affordable price. I bought two of these for my house. Before i got them, i tried out some very expensive sony ptz cameras that originally retailed for over $2000 (in 2008). The sony cameras were about 5x larger, loud, and did not have night vision (ir illuminators). I had low expectations for the amcrest cameras because of their low price, but they are really terrific. The highlights are: excellent resolution (full 1080 hd), very small size (they can sit on a shelf and be very inconspicuous), quiet operation (including while moving), night vision, easy configuration, great price. I did not need any help setting these up, but i did have a couple questions before purchasing, and the amcrest support personnel responded very quickly and answered all of my questions.

The wide 118. 6 degree viewing angle really sold me on this as opposed to the other domes from amcrest that are 93 degrees. . The higher res is noticeable when compared to the 1080p. I know some will argue that it's not that big of a difference, and while that is true when looking at the numbers, the picture quality is really great, and the higher res is super necessary with the wider viewing angle. . Something that no one mentions! . If you get a camera with a wider viewing angle, you should absolutely get a higher resolution model. This will allow you to crop in and still get a very respectable resolution image, which if you need a good quality picture cropped in (such as a license plate of a car in the street, speaking from experience unfortunately) is vitally important. For some number justification, see below :-):. By choosing these cameras (118. 6 degrees fov(field of view) and 2688x1520 resolution) over the lower 1080p model (93 degree fov and 1960x1080 resolution), i got a 22% increase in my fov (1 - (93/118. 6)) and a 27% increase in resolution (1-(1960/2688)). All that equates to is that i get a wider fov and even if i want to zoom in to see the same effective fov as the 1080 model, my resolution at that "zoom" will still be higher.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Bullet Security (ip4m 1026eb) FAQ.

I've been testing this camera with a "amcrest nv2108e 8-channel poe nvr" to see what the capabilities are. So far, it's been great. The nvr is a bit wonky, but this camera works perfectly. Literally plug it in to the nvr and it magically shows up. No configurations needed. You will spend significantly more time mounting the camera and running the ethernet than getting it configured and set up. . I have also ordered the 2mp version of this camera and i am waiting for it to be delivered. Once i get the 2mp version in, i'll add a comparison to this review. . But, this camera seems to be great. The quality is outstanding and the night vision mode works really, really well. I haven't tested it fully at night yet, but during the day it is more than capable of capturing enough detail to identify people and read license plates within 50 - 100 ft. You could probably see details even father, but my front porch has a relatively short sight distance. . Depending on how the 2mp cameras compare, i will almost definitely buy more of these cameras. . One last note, the cameras seem to use approximately 500 mb / hour / megapixel. In other words, this 4 mp camera will use about 2 gb of data per hour when recording full time. If you set the camera to 'motion' it will probably use a lot less data depending on how much motion the camera sees. Obviously very high traffic areas are going to record non-stop. -Notice from L. April, Calderdale

- H. BethanyOk, so i bought three amcrest 4mp cameras in three different configurations - 1025 bullet, 1028 dome and 1054 motor-zoom bullet. In general, i'm satisfied with the result and can recommend all three cameras. In the hope of helping others, i'll make some general observations as well as some comparisons between the three. General: the cameras are well made of quality materials (metal) and have good image quality. Documentation is not up to the same level - all three cameras came with user guides that covered many different products and was not helpful at finding specific issues with the camera purchased. An example? the 1028 and 1054 both have the ability to install a microsd card, but no information about how to install it - in the case of the 1054 it's hidden under an access panel and on the 1028 it's held inside a very flimsy metal holder that would be very easy to break if you unknowingly pulled or pushed it in the wrong way. I figured it out, but only because i had a cell phone a few years back that had a similar holder for its sim card. Another example is mounting instructions. The 1028 came with a stick-on paper template to help drill the holes, but the 1026 and 1054 did not. . A few comparative comments. I'm sure it's a personal preference thing, but after my experience installing these three i have to say i found the dome camera much easier to install than the bullets. The dome can be mounted on the ceiling or on the wall (facing out) and the camera rotated on a three-way gimbal that let's you move it to any orientation (one time, during installation) regardless of the orientation of the base (less about 5 degrees). This makes installation easy - screw the base to the wall or ceiling, move the camera to any direction, and fix on the dome. The bullets are a lot harder because the stalk rotates only on one axis, and then by less than 90 degrees. So the base has to be in exactly the right orientation, and once screwed to the wall (making holes in stucco etc) then you have limited chance of reorienting the camera if it turns out to be nonideal. . The cameras can be accessed from a cell phone app or from a browser (only ie, not chrome). But the phone app has limitations, for example i couldn't find a way to use the motorized zoom function. The browser access is more comprehensive. However, best of all is a standalone application called amcrest surveillance pro, that didn't seem to be mentioned at all in the documentation but which was contained on the cd that came in the box (i found it while looking on the cd for a user guide). The surveillance pro mostly replicates the functions of the browser interface, but is much faster and also allows the setup of a virtual nvr on your pc to capture motion detection etc. . And now for some model specific comments:. 1025: this is a simple bullet design with a relatively narrow field of view. I thought it would good for my front door, but in retrospect i would have been better off with a wider view. As mentioned earlier, once you've screwed the base to the wall there are limited options to the directions you can point it. If you want to move the direction more than a little, you'll be drilling new holes (this assumes you want to point the camera at an angle from the wall - if you want to point straight ahead, you're good to go). The 1025 does not have a microsd slot. In the end, i found that was a disadvantage, as the other two cameras were able to capture video within themselves even when not connected to a software program or dedicated nvr. . 1028: this is a simple dome design with a 3-way gimbal that is not motorized (this is not a ptz camera) but you can orient the camera in any direction when you fix it in place. The 1028 accepts a microsd card, and also has sound input and output, as well as alarm triggers than would allow you to run the camera when a doorbell is pushed (for example) or to turn on a light or similar. I didn't use any of those functions. The downside is that it has a lot of wires coming out of it, which were kind of a nuisance during installation (i was tempted to clip them off, but didn't want to short out anything). . 1054: this is a bullet camera with a motorized zoom. I thought it would be good for watching critters in my yard. Zoom works well, and gives a choice between 55 and 104 degree field of view (and everything in between). But this camera is physically big and quite heavy. Installation was more difficult than the 1025 because of the size, especially at the top of a 17 ft ladder! i seriously considered purchasing the 1056 camera instead, which is more or less the same camera in dome format. The dome has the motorized zoom, but not full ptz (i think). The 1054 (bullet) has four ir lamps whereas the 1056 (dome) has only two so the night vision range of the dome is not as much. . I'll attach a couple of photos of raccoons digging up our lawn. These are low resolution pics taken with the 1054 by ispy (which worked well with all three cameras).

I bought the 2megapixel camera set with 4 cameras and the dvr and it is ok, but when it comes down to pixels are everything when you are trying to make out a license plate. This camera has great clarity during the day but at night it isn't much better than the 2megapixel camera. I do like the poe system much more, but just beware you need to get an ethernet booster which gives the camera power. I bought all the tools to make my own ethernet cable ends which makes everything clean. If you do decide to make your own cables make sure you buy a tester to make sure you got it right. It is easy to not get a good connection when crimping ends. The software couldn't have been easier to get it to work on my pc, phone or cloud. I do witch amcrest would come out with a zoom or a camera that has a higher range. You can read a plate from about 50 ft with this camera (during the day). I am really happy with the cloud service, but it is kind of expensive considering 2 cameras is about the same price and a security system service.

Installee easily into my techbox security system, simple as plug and play. Working great so far! . . Pros: lots of storage for my camera system. Plug and play, easy to hookup. Cons: more expensive than a standard hdd but thats understandable. So really no cons -Notice from Z. Theresa, South Australia

- P. MeghanExcellent surveillance drive (4tb), video playback seems smoother than my genaric drive received with my nvr. Logged a few hundred hours and no errors, stays cool as well.

As usual, western digital designed this drive for constant sustained write abuse. The most impressive feature, it's really quiet! . I'm using this in a security camera system dvr. I think by the sounds of it, should last a really long time. I just love their drives. I have some that are over 7 years old and running 24/7 they just keep on ticking and take a licking ! . Max

Had a problem with the 1st one. It must have got damaged during shipping. It arrived in just the unit's box. Plugged it in grinding sound. I reported a defective item and the replacement was at my door a day later. This one arrived in a shipping box. No problems, works great in my 16 channel penta dvr.

Giving 5 stars for the tech support person tina for helping me diagnose my camera issues. Apparently, out of the 4 cameras that i received, 1 is defective which is why i thought i was doing something wrong. Have to return the defective camera and wait for the new one to arrive.

Very difficult to understand how to set up and operate if you are not techy. Also, doesn't have an easy way to set up and view from your phone as many other home security cameras do. They are very attractive cameras and the resolution is fantastic. Just wish they were easier to operate.

- . Pamela6 months after install, everything is still working just fine. I give 3 stars because the software is clunky and non-intuitive to use. Also the ios app kinda sucks. It works half the time and doesn't have enough features that are available elsewhere

I originally bought the amcrest 960h 8 camera set, that set was ok at best for general observation of the outside, but could barely read a license plate at 30ft. I then returned that and bought the $800 4 camera 4mp set, it has very good day quality the nighttime ir is almost like daylight the cat 5 cables are perfect and the system hooks up very easily. I really like it and feel it well worth it, the picture quality is good. The user interface takes a little to figure out but overall is very easy to use. The mobile app took literally 2-4 minutes to set up. To sum it up the 4mp unit is well worth the extra $500 (if your getting a camera system not sure why you would be ok with anything less)

I'm not a security professional, and this review is based on my experience with my home-built ad-hoc security and monitoring system. . I have several brands of cameras including three amcrest dome style cams in my system, this being the first "bullet" style amcrest i have tried. The domes work great under both blue iris and zone alarm and like them, this camera was easy to set up and trouble free once you learn the tricks of using the amcrest device manager software to get a fixed ip and gateway addresses assigned. . Sharp picture with good color and the ir lighting is adequate. I am skeptical about the claimed 90-some odd feet of illumination, but within the 40 feet or so of the pool area i am monitoring, it is ok. This cam seems to stay in color mode later in the day than any of my other security cameras. The camera barrel is quite short and the whole cam is smaller than i thought it would be from the online store picture. Its size makes it unobtrusive. The case seems very well constructed, feels solid with a nice weight, the pivot ball is snug yet easy enough to move for aiming, and the coating system on the case and mounting pad is good. Do yourself a favor and give the included mounting screws a toss and use something like coated sheetrock screws or good quality stainless. The smallish diameter of the mounting pad makes it difficult to get a straight-on angle when driving the screws and i found the phillips cross on the included screws to strip easily. . The black thumbscrew on top you see in the product picture is to hold the sliding sun shield hood in position it comes out of the nicely-padded box with the hood fully extended and as you can see it doesn't go out very far, extending over the front of the cam by only about 1/2". I mounted this cam under an eave of the house and out of direct sunlight to monitor the pool and spa, so no problem with sun glare, but be aware of this possible problem if your mounting location is exposed to the sun. . The rj-45 jack pigtail comes with a screw-together plastic enclosure and grommet rings to help keep the connection dry. How effective it is i don't know but if your connection is exposed to the weather i suggest also wrapping it in first rubber then vinyl electrical tapes or a piece of shrink tube to make sure. The pigtail also has a dc jack for powering the cam if you don't use poe. No protection was included for this so i just taped it up and hoped for the best. . So far i am quite pleased with this addition to my ever-expanding monitoring system. Now i need a bigger hard drive!

i bought this because there were a number of car break-in's in our neighborhood. Good thing i did. This camera is recorded on the nvr4108. Attached is actual footage by this camera of a person looking into our car early one morning. Our driveway is about 60' from the camera to the curb. It can see out to the street pretty well with the ir. If i raise the camera up cars can be clearly seen. Also the clarity is really good even when digitally zoomed. My only concerns are at 83 degrees field of view i was hoping to capture more area by the camera. My other concern is when my flood light turns on the camera momentarily blacks out as it adjusts for light saturation. I don't know if other camera's do this but it does make sense. In my attached video, you'll see when the flashlight is turned off the camera adjusts.

Only fly in the ointment here is the the camera control is only done from the web interface, which would be fine, but it requires a plug in that doesn't seem to work on windows 10. Tried two separate windows 10 computers, using ie, no bueno. Installs, brief flash of a dialog box (not long enough to read it), then no change and no errors message. The camera works fine from the amcrest ap on android, but it's not possible to set up the motion detect from the ap; the web interface is required. . I have a trouble ticket in with amcrest after searching their tech forum to no avail. (always ominous when no one has seen your tech problem). I'll share how it comes out. . And after a very short wait, carlos with tech support had the answer:. . "you are working in edge. Internet explorer is in the background. To to your search bar at the bottom left of the screen and start to type internet. Ie will popup. Before you click on it right click and pin it to your taskbar so it will be there from now on. Now your system is still set to use edge but you can now bounce back to ie cause it will be there the next time. . Open ie and type your ip address in the url at the top and then install the webplugin. You will probably get a corrupt file warning just right click in the red an run anyway. ". . Fast and effective tech support, good product. What's to not like here. :)

okay, i purchased this amcrest camera to start building on my home security. I liked the idea of buying the package deals but for what i was wanting to spend currently, they weren't in my price range. I wanted good cameras and since i don't really need 4 or 8 cameras to get setup, why not buy a nvr that can support that and just buy great cameras as i go. So that is what i have done. I paired this camera with a so after playing with the camera and nvr in my garage for the last week i finally was able to run some cat5e and get the camera mounted to the front of the house like i wanted. Easy peasy doing all this and i had no problem just plugging the camera back into the cat5 and it working. I honestly haven't dug around to much in the nvr settings, i easily setup motion detection and it works great and everytime a car goes by the house i know get a little recording of it and a snapshot of it alerted to me on my phone via the amcrest app. Okay, lets get into the amcrest app. I love it. Simply put i had the camera image on my phone 3 minutes after downloading the app. No i am no networking engineer or anything like that. I know how to login to my router, i know how to reset a router, i know how to book a holiday inn express. So yes that is about as technical savvy as i get and i had no issues getting all this up and running. I like that when i am out and about i will know when someone is approaching my home when i am not there. I can't wait to add some more cameras to monitor the rest of my property and hope to atleast get a camera ordered for the front door in the next few days. All in all i think amcrest has a good product on their hands for the typical consumer and i will be buying their products in the future. *nope i didn't get a discount on this* *amcrest if you see this, i wouldn't say no to a discount*

Excellent poe camera! . . Bought 4 of these. Fov (81o) is pretty good within price range, resolution is great. I found they work great with blue iris software. I had to apply some masking to the motion detection trigger since i have some trees and some cars passing by that would trigger recording continuously. Excellent night vision. You can actually mount them at any angle. I had my doubts but the camera not only bends at an angle relative to the mount, but it also rotates 360 degrees relative to the arm mount base as well as the "bullet" relative to the arm. Mounting was a little bit tricky. It comes with a cable and a weather proof connector that is pretty thick. I didn't want to cut it out and void my warranty, but also didn't want to drill a huge hole on my brick wall (besides, the cable is not long enough to go through the brick wall). So the connection had to be made outside. I wish amcrest or online store sold a custom junction box, but couldn't find any. I had to buy a third party box and drill new holes on the box cover (see pics). For mounting on vinyl siding home depot sells a mounting box that is just thick enough to accommodate the connection on the outside (you need some sort of mounting base unless your siding is flat). Overall great product at a fair price.

I'm building my home surveillance system piece by piece and these are a worthwhile addition. In my opinion these are very well-built cameras, and i plan to order more of them to complete my system. Heavy-duty cast aluminum case, and glass dome is heavy and seems sufficiently thick. Sealing arrangement is very good. The o-ring is arranged so mounting holes are outside of the sealed area, and a small bag of desiccant is fastened to the wires inside to absorb any moisture that finds its way in. Documentation consists of a quick-start guide (in decent english! ) which provided enough, but not an abundance, of information and a small cd with the configuration utility. I didn't use the cd and instead visited the maker's web page and downloaded the latest version. The utility s/w quickly and easily found the 2 new units i added to the network and it was easy to re-name them and change the pw and network settings and to update the firmware. The camera supports a web-based viewer that i tried out but won't use use for anything than verifying camera operation and adjusting the lens position. It required several add-ins/plug-ins be added to the browser (i used firefox) and frankly the picture quality wasn't good and at first i was disappointed. . However under blue iris it is a different story. Blue iris has the config file included for these and they integrated perfectly with only a click or two. Resolution both day and night under blue iris is very sharp, clear, and well-focused and i found no reason to change the default settings. The ir illumination is sufficient but seems a little weak compared to the bullet-style cameras i have in my system (but maybe i'm expecting too much from these rather smallish cameras in a dark outside location. ). . My only real complaint is the lens will not move more towards the horizon than the picture in the online store listing shows. I mounted one on a low roof overhang (no other mounting options, unfortunately) and although the cam works fine, i wish i could move the lens more towards 90 degrees from the mounting plane to better view the area i want to protect - as it is i see a lot more of the ground than i like. The camera/lens body moves around easily but there is a pin that stops the lens if trying to move it towards the horizon. I cut the plastic pin off but still couldn't move it much further because the lens assembly then bumps the circuit board, and i will probably replace it with a bullet cam in the future. If mounting the cam on a horizontal surface the cam needs to be elevated otherwise you will have a lot of ground in the picture. Not the cam's fault certainly but something to consider when planning your cam's placement. . There is a slot for a micro-sd card on the camera's mb but i didn't try it out and don't recall it being mentioned in the documentation. Just noting that it is there. Right next to it is the hard reset button if you forget your password or screw up the configuration. . Overall i am very satisfied with these and plan to add a few more around the house as the budget allows.

I love amcrest cameras and they are my current favorite. I would find it hard to find a better camera at the price. I have many various models in use and they are rock solid. One of which, but not the one being reviewed, has been exposed to direct sun in 100 degree plus temperatures and occasional hard rain. I recommend amcrest to everyone. . As far as this camera, i only give it four stars because i only like it and not love it. What i don't love:. . (1) the vandal proof dome is an annoyance. In order to not have the ir light reflect off the dome is to have a rubber grommet around the lense that makes contact with the dome. The first time i got the view i wanted i put on the dome and didn't realize it caught against the grommet. This caused it to move the lense from the view i wanted. I only discovered this after screwing on the dome. This was extremely annoying since the camera was mounted high and it takes a little while to turn those screws with the custom wrench. I later decided i would like to change the angle of the camera, but i have not done so because of the dome. I prefer the similar 1080p model without a dome cover (amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe dome ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 1080p (1920 tvl), ip2m-844e (white)). . (2) it's 3mp but only at 20 frames per second (fps). This did not work well on my porch since it would not catch someone on video that walked up quickly and then walked away due to the limited area of view. It may work okay for monitoring a large area, but not a close/limited field of view. I dropped it to 1080p and increased that to 1080p. Again, i would have preferred the cheaper ip2m-844e. Even better, i would have preferred a camera with much wider field of view. This model has a 81 degree field of view and the ip2m-844e is 93 degrees. This camera would have likely worked better if i could catch people coming straight at it, but i am getting them from above after they walk into a very limited area. . This camera may have it's uses, but it clearly is not the best camera for my use.

got this little gem six days ago from online store. I had it out of the box and working indoors in less than 15 minutes. The most difficulty i had was that i didn't remember to write down my password and then to find the reset button. The reset isn't really very noticeable. Once i reset, i did the process over again with my phone and voila! the qr scan for the code worked perfect. Once we drilled the hole through the wall, it was fairly simple to run the cord from the camera through. The camera has about 8 inches of cat6 (female) and a plug in case you don't use poe. You still need the male cat6 to go from the camera plug to the injector. The injector did not come with any cat6 either, so i purchased a 10 ft length to go from the injector to my verizon box. I had played with the camera before installing outside on the wall so i was very familiar with how to tilt it to the angle i needed and then rotate the lens so the picture wasn't sideways or upside down. The night vision isn't what i had hoped. It's ok if i know the people and cars that are in the pictures. But i am having a stalker problem, driving by my home. The police need it on film/pic, his car. Even zooming in is not going to work, and even getting a tag number on my own vehicle at night is virtually impossible, even at the closest distance. So that's going to be impossible with this camera. Daytime video is excellent and then some. At dusk, i can at least determine make and model of vehicle. The video i included is actually at night, midnight, and looks to me to be a cop because of the security light. I also must say that the motion trigger turns on the camera before that person/car etc is even in view! i am using the amcrest cloud, saving only 7 days of video. I am also using amcrest view and amcrest cloud on my android phone and have had no issues what so ever. I have used both apps while at the grocery store, the mall, and while on the road, no issues. The issue other folks may have with the email alerts, i just made a gmail address specifically for my camera. Otherwise my regular email address would be filled up! i think this will be most useful for when i am out of town. It's easier for me to check the cloud the next day, and review each event. I am seriously considering another camera, the bullet style. Putting this one out back to view my porch and front door. The max length of cat6, the company told me, is 300 ft. That's a nice distance for those that don't want to hard wire or don't have an outlet handy. Besides, wireless can be a fickle thing sometimes. I also had to purchase the injector, and went with the tplink, as i have verizon and my box did not support poe. Having never had a security camera before, maybe i was expecting too much. Total install 30 minutes. I spent more time just playing with the software. I highly recommend this camera, based on ease of installation and use. I only gave four stars because i was hoping much better for night vision. My kindle does not support their software.

Important, take a picture of the qr code (square bar code) on the back of the camera! it will make registering it on the viewer app (in case you need to reinstall the application or get a new phone where you will need to set up the viewer app again) much more convenient. I installed mine on the crest of my roof then needed to set up a second install of the app on a tablet . Didn't have access to the qr code on the back of the camera to scan to register the device. Had to figure out the alternative method. Good daytime picture and frame rate. Nighttime frame rate seems lower but image is clear. Ir emitters do the job nicely.

This is a great product and has many capabilities. I am not new to the amcrest product line as i am private security consultant. In my last job i installed the amcrest ultrahd 3-megapixel (2048 x 1536p) 8ch network poe video security system (nvr kit) - four 3mp poe outdoor bullet ip cameras, 98ft night vision, 2tb hdd, power over ethernet (black) with four cameras. The client came back and said i want three more cameras in addition to the four that came in the kit. This nvr (network video recorder) handles them great. Amcrest does a great job with their poe line of cameras. Their poe line of nvr 's have either a 4/8/ or 16 port 10/100 switch, 8 in this case, that supports the industry standard of 802. 3 af. For most people this doesn't matter, but it's worth noting. Everytime i have plugged in an amcrest poe camera the onbaord switch has had no probles powering them and showing an image and giving them an ip address usng its own subnet with dhcp. . Onto the hard drive, this specific model has a 2 terabyte seagate model in it (see attached photo. ) if you go about reading reviews on the standalone amcrest nvr/ dvr recorders people say "i didn't get a hard drive! " this is true, if you buy one of their standalone recorders they do not include a hard drive for a couple reasons. One: you choose your model and brand of wanted hard drive. For me/ my clients i steer them towards western digital purple series as these are engineered for high write rates (recording) as opposed to engineered for quickly reading (watching the footage). Secondly, it brings the price down for you at the time of purchase. I don't have to tell you that quality security products aren't cheap and these are far from the most expensive. If you reaaally want to spend some money check out axis, honeywell, bosch, panasonic etc. Amcrest (previosuly branded foscam) are good cameras, but are not the professional pieces like those aforementioned. . For those that are interested what's under the hood, or other ports, and or plugs, i have attached photos of what is on and in the chasis(remove four screws and top comes off to acess hard drive etc. ). . Overal i love the amcrest brand and their whole line of poe/ network video products. They have had calls from me about rma's and returns and warranties, and i have also exchanged propmt emails with them and have always been happy. Their csutomer service is bar none! i have eead reviews about people waitingg on hold, etc, however their website does list their sucustomertomer service phone hours, and the time zone for them. . At this point you're probably thinking this dude has to be paid or even worse, work for them, but surprisingly i don't. I just honestly love this brand of products and am generally 95% happy with the products and always 100% happy with the customer service. . The only thing that they could improve that i see right now is a dome or bullet varifocal ip camera. For most of their outdoor ip cameras you have an 81-95 degree viewing angel, which is great for large specific areas. However you may have only one area you want to view and it be far off, or a certain doorwayor object. Therefore that is what i would reccomend, definitely not anything to take a star off for. If amcrest roll those out i will definitely be a buyer. . Overall love love love amcrest!

I'd give the one 4. 5 stars. Added this one in addition to my foscam and dahua cameras. This one has been the most adjustable one so far with the ability to swing the camera and angle 180 degrees. It's also the highest resolution camera in my collection. All functions are working as advertised and the installation went well and didn't take long. The only design change i would make is with the cable connector. I'd like the option to connect it to the main board so that i could have fed the cable through a smaller cat5 sized hole, rather than a larger hole to accommodate the rj45 plug. There's no room in the housing for the cable and connectors, so if you want those fed into the wall or surface where the camera is being mounted, you just need a larger hole to feed the cables back into. Not a big deal, i just like smaller holes in my house where possible. (the dahua cameras had enough room behind the housing for the cable and connectors, so you can just feed the cat5 through a small hole in the house and crimp an end on it. ) i mounted this camera right into the aluminum eves with the screws provided, still seems to be strong enough. I recommend a bead of silicone caulk around the mount to plug up any holes where spiders and wasps might try to make a home. Using this camera with the blue iris software. To get the ip i downloaded the amcrest configuration utility and it discovered it with no problems.

* not a paid review *. Bottom line: quality poe camera. . I bought this to replace my foscam camera that died on me. The build quality is quite nice and it's fairly easy to setup (physically). The image quality is also nice (a night shot attached) but the software/ui is horrible although usable. The motion detection gives out a lot of false alarms especially at night with bugs easily triggering the motion detection. The mobile app is nice to have but i'm still trying to figure out how to use it when outside of my network. I've setup the ddns service which works with web browsers but not with the mobile app. The notifications (alerts/banners) on the mobile app works ok but badges don't work. All that said, this is a nice camera to have and would recommend it but i think the full security system rather than just a single camera might work out a little better.

I've installed the nvr and cameras in a test environment, waiting for flood repairs to be completed to my house. Everything is working fine. . I deducted one star because the included printed instructions are lacking. There were two "amcrest nvr quick start guides. " one was seven pages and had only simple line drawings of the nvr and didn't thoroughly represent or describe my device. The second guide is 82 pages with useful photos and instructions. . The setup was challenging using the user app built into the nvr. From my point of view the challenges were mostly due to the very large number of required vs optional settings. I haven't yet dived into the multitude of detection settings. . I find the management of recorded views to be difficult and inadequate. It seems you can't delete a recording of a specific camera or for a specific time period. You can allow the oldest recording to be overwritten once the storage is full or automatically delete those beyond a specified number of days. There is available a detailed schedule for each camera, but i haven't tackled that yet. The only other way to delete files is to "format" the hard drive - scary. . After some trial and error, i was successful in getting the amcrest view app to provide local and remote access to the system with my ipad and iphone. Lots of options. . Amcrest has a lot of documentation and video online. My first experiences with their email and phone support have been marginal, but ultimately successful. They couldn't help with my inquiry to connect my old foscam cameras. Direct contact with foscam resulted in a very quick offer of a "significant" discount on a new amcrest camera. I haven't followed up on that yet.

I started buying amcrest cameras a little over a year ago. I started with a few low end 720p cameras and now i have worked up to a 2tb nvr, 4 bullet cameras, my two original 720p cameras, and now this 3 megapixel poe dome camera. I have used ip cameras in the past from d-link and those cameras never seemed to last more than a few months of constant use before the video quality degraded and became almost useless. Since i started buying amcrest i have been quite happy. . I have this camera mounted to the front of my house to watch over deliveries from ups and fedex. Installation was very simple, the worst part of the install was drilling into the brick on my house. I bought a tp-link gigabit ethernet poe injector (tl-poe150s) to power this camera since i was hooking it up to my lan and not directly to the nvr. After giving it a static ip address i was easily able to add it to my amcrest nvr. . Now if you have used amcrest products already then what i'm about to say will be no surprise. For the newbies i have to warn you, the user interface is pretty bad, it is clunky and unintuitive. I have been working in i. T. For over 10 years so when others said the user interface was confusing i figured they were probably just not tech savvy. Well that is not the case, it really is. It will take some time but once you figure out what settings do what you will be fine but when you first start out you are going to be searching though various menus and screens quite a bit. One bit of good new though is that once you learn the amcrest software it's pretty much the same on all the cameras i have seen from them. . I did have some issues with this camera not working in ispy though, i could not find a video stream that was using the full resolution of the camera and every time i turned on ispy it would downgrade the setting in the camera itself. Since i have an nvr this is not a big deal but previously i used all my cameras with an ispy server, if i was still doing so then this camera would probably been returned. . Pros:. -good build quality. -good video quality. -poe is very convenient and works perfectly. -works fine with my amcrest nvr. . Cons:. -the user interface is unintuitive and takes time to figure out. -the connection to the network cable is outside the camera housing and not secure. -have to install an amcrest plugin to view the system via web browser. . Conclusion:. Overall i'm happy with this camera. I took one star off for the poor user interface, the issue with ispy, and for the ethernet connection being outside the camera housing. . Some additional tips:. -for some reason the factory video settings on amcrest cameras are not set very high so make sure you turn up the resolution and frame rates on the camera settings to the highest number your cameras will allow and save.

I purchased this to replace some older dahua 1. 2mp cameras i have had setup. These are a very nice upgrade. The picture is clear and the night vision is still very clear. These are extremely easy to setup as far as ip cameras go. The web interface is responsive and easy to navigate. A nice change form some other cameras i have setup is that these default with dhcp on, which is just one less step and will make them pretty much plug and play for most. These also have a much better selection of video encoding than the dahua models. I have these setup with a dedicated server running blue iris so i do not connect directly with them of use the cloud service, so i dont know how that that works, but the cameras themselves work very well

The problem, of course, with hard wired cameras is running an ethernet cable to wherever you want to install the camera, therefore, being lazy, i tried to install some battery operated wifi cameras (ring stick up cam). I really wanted them to work, but they did not work for me. . Since, i have purchased three of these amcrest poe (power over ethernet) cameras, and installed them around the house. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras. Running the ethernet cables was a really big job, but i bit the bullet, got over being lazy for a day, and just did it. What a difference having a real camera makes! i am using them with my synology network attached storage and its motion detection (using the synology surveillance station package that comes with the synology nas) is 100% reliable - once properly set up it is giving me 100% true and 0% false motion detection. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison, but imo the amcrest camera build quality is night and day better than the ring stick up cam. . I purchased three of these to use around my house after trying the battery operated/wifi ring stick up cam, which for me was a fail, and am using it with my existing synology network attached storage that i have had for several years. . Now i understand why a hard wired camera is vastly better than a battery camera. It is always watching, and the synology surveillance station package is constantly analyzing the video for motion. (other surveillance systems, or even the camera itself, can do this too. ) once it detects motion, it records a video clip to the nas. Also, you can specify a lead in and lead out time from the time motion is detected to begin and end recording. This is called "pre- and post-recording time" in the synology surveillance station package. This can be set for up to 30 seconds for pre-recording and up to 120 seconds for post-recording in the sinology surveillance package. I have this set to 5 seconds for pre-recording, and 20 seconds for post-recording, so i never see a video beginning with someone walking away from the camera, or a video clip with someone suddenly appearing in the range of the camera, as i often saw on my battery operated cameras. . Rather, what i see, every time, is the person walking up to the the camera, because it is always on and monitoring, and when it detects motion and records the clip to my synology nas had drive it records what the camera saw 5 seconds before it first detects motion, and 20 seconds after it no longer is detecting motion. This just is not possible with a battery operated camera, which must be asleep to save battery, and then is wakened from its sleep and then starts recording. . Amcrest also has a cloud service, which i tried before i decided to use the nas. Their free version is just really for testing, it is pretty limited; i believe their paid version starts at $10 per month. But you can purchase an inexpensive nas for under $200, plus the cost of two hard drives, which do not have to be large expensive drives unless you want to use the nas for other purposes, and the surveillance station app works very well. . These cameras are not on the list of cameras that synology surveillance station currently supports, but i set them up as amcrest ip2m-841b, which ss does support, and they work fine. . I use them with a d-link poe ethernet switch with no issues. . - edit 11/5/2017 -. . Since i wrote this review, synology surveillance station has been updated, and as mentioned in one of the comments to this review now supports this camera. . I have purchased 6 more of these cameras, i now have a total of 9 around my property, both inside and outside and they continue to work very well, and have had no failures. I did receive one camera that had one of the screws for the cover installed so tight that i could not remove it, but returned that to online store for a refund with no issues. . I use the motion detection capability of surveillance station, not the camera. It does take some tweaking in surveillance station to get the motion detection working for zero to very few false detections, by such techniques as masking out areas such as roads where cars are driving, the tops of trees that can move in the wind, etc. , and setting the sensitivity and threshold one of the biggest problems i have had with one of my cameras is shadows on a wall that are cast by vegetation moving from wind, but it is possible to minimize false detections and still detect people, and in almost all of my cameras i now have it down to zero false detections, except when camera changes from day to night, outdoor lights coming on in the evening, etc.

Hopefully, these will provide long service with no failures, but time will tell. I initially bought this amcrest 3mp poe and a foscam 19900, and haven't had alot of time to play with them but, i am going to buy two more these due to the following reasons. - the amcrest seemed to have a nice clear picture optically, where the foscam is blurry around the edges. - the amcrest runs roller then the foscam. - the night vision seems much more full and not directed like the foscam. . Things i don't like. -mounting these to the underneath of my over hang sucks, i cannot get full range of motion, it needs to be able to swivel left and right after mounting. This cannot happen due to left and right are set due to the fixed mount (screws), . Yes i could manipulate it so it would move left and right (not evenly) but then the problem would be up and down. -mounting again, . These need an extender (to bring it down from the overhang more) or maybe just an included optional mount that would allow for a fully adjustable underneath/overhang mount. -software seems very rich and full of options, but is less intuitive than the foscam in my opinion. It didn't want to work well with safari at first, . Specifically it wouldn't let me download the plugin needed to view the video at first. Not sure why. But it did work later. . Recap, good picture, 3mp, power over ethernet, price was good, but mounting needs to be tweaked for us that want to mount to an overhang on our house and building. Mounting to the side of a structure is more intrusive, more work and damaging than mounting to the overhang.

O. Betty, Blackpool

Based on about 2 weeks worth of usage:. . The video quality is excellent. The night vision is pretty amazing. I love the fact that i can stick the nvr in an out of view corner in my basement but still view the video from the computer in our kitchen. You can even configure almost all of the settings from the computer. . I initially couldn't figure out how to remotely connect to the device (needed to use ie instead of edge) so i contacted amcrest's customer service. They were very helpful and responded in a reasonable amount of time. . My only complaint is that the user manual isn't really worth reading. It's basically just a book full of screen shots with short descriptions that don't help me understand the purpose or functions of the features. I can pretty much guess on just about everything so it's not that big of a deal, but when i do have questions, the manual isn't helpful.

I purchased this camera to overlook the driveway and monitor the mailbox. I wanted something small and unnoticeable. I have several pan/tilt cameras in the house, but this was my first outdoor amcrest camera. When i first got the camera it was smaller and more discrete than i thought, making it more than perfect for my install. . Once i had it installed i didn't know that the camera rotated on 3 axes inside it's housing. It has one axis that rotates left/right 360*, one that controls pitch up/down 180, * and another that rotates the entire lens. The lens axis is hard to notice, but it rotates like a puck on ice. I wasn't happy with the fisheye direction at first installed, but sliding the lens 90* fixed the small sliver view to a nice wide angled view of the whole driveway and mailbox. . I used amcrest ip config software for the initial port configuration and added the camera into my ip cam viewer app. There is a web based gui, but it can be a little glitchy. I would give this 5 stars, but documentation on the camera is pretty limited and i had to search their site for the ip software. Other than that, this is a great camera in a small package.

R. Harrison, Islington

I just unboxed the camera, setup took about 10 min (some basic network knowledge and casually reading through all the settings). The box contains only the camera, mounting screws, and documentation on mini disk. Amcrest made a welcome change i have been hoping for. They now include a weatherproofing fitting for the ethernet connection, although you must put an unfinished ethernet cable through the weatherproof connector 1st and then terminate it with a plug, so make sure you have the proper tools if you planning to use it) ! as expected the web interface for the camera is much improved over some similar foscam models i have. Also plays rather well with blueiris (though camera is so new it doesn't yet have its own model listing in blue iris 2/22/16), but does work ok with the amcrest/prohd 1080p setting (which the camera still displays at full resolution higher than 1080p). Overall i am very pleased with the improvements, especially for the price. I will update after a few months if something changes. . There aren't clear instructions for how to assemble the weatherproof connector, but 1st you take the main body of the connector and place the little rubber cylinder with the rib facing inwards toward the connector into the end with the plastic "fingers" protruding. Then you run your unfinished ethernet cable through the connector nut and through the rubber cylinder/main body assembly, then you terminate your cable with a plug (8p8c or known commonly as an "rj45 plug"). Lastly place the large rubber o-ring around the female ethernet port from the camera, with the chamfer facing toward the main body or the connector, plug in the cable, screw it all together and done! (check photos). . Note: since this is a poe camera, for safety it is wise to ensure your ethernet cables are solid copper and at least 24 awg.

One of the best ip camera's i have used till date. . Ease of installation: very easy to install. Remove the dome cover to expose the holes to screw the system to the wall/ceiling etc. Adjust the camera as required and fit back the dome cover. Power connection: this can be covered either separately using a power adapter (not included) or a poe injector (not included). Without which, this unit will not power on. Connection: no wireless connection feature for this unit. Only possible way is to connect via ethernet cable. Monitoring: amcrest desktop app and mobile apps are available to keep an eye on the camera feed. Local storage: no local storage is available on this unit. Use a dvr/nvr or a pc with appropriate software (i use ispy) which records the feed from this unit. Cloud storage: only pain point for me with this camera. The cloud storage is available for few hrs as part of the free package. The cloud view doesnt always work. If the device is connected to your internet router, amcrest cloud service can be used to view the feed. But doesnt work all the time. Motion detection: worked almost all the time. Even a small movement or change, this camera triggers a notification via the cloud service. Camera feed: as mentioned earlier, one of the best camera's available. Both day time and night time video feeds are very clear. . Definitely worth getting this, if you want a descent to good camera for security.

Aaron logan provided outstanding technical support to assist us with resolving some installation issues after a brief power outage. Apparently the modem reassigned new ip addresses to the cameras and they were not visible on our i phones. Through remote access, he was able to access my network, modem/router, and provide much needed assistance. He was most courteous and patient with me for nearly 2 hours. The poe cameras (five) are all up and running now on laptop, i pad and i phones. I would have never been able to accomplish what he did on my own. After reading the manual (twice), which provided much information, it contained many terms which were not in my geologist's vocabulary. It took about 30 minutes on hold to finally get a tech the phone, but it was definitely worth the wait. I will purchase additional products from this company and can attest that my experience with regard to technical support was indeed super. Thanks again aaron!

I had a foscam ip camera that was 3 years old and continually having to be physically rebooted (unplug, replug, reboot), so i upgraded and went with a poe and nvr setup. This camera works much better than my old foscam and it was a significant upgrade as far as resolution and ease of getting electricity to the camera so i am happy with that. I work with computers so i was able to get my poe, nvr, and poe switch set-up eventually, but it is not for the faint of heart. The software for the camera and nvr is beyond terrible (it's the same software for the camera and nvr). It is worse than the old foscam software and i thought that was terrible. To say it is not intuitive is an understatement. The instructions make no sense. Getting the nvr to recognize the camera took multiple reboots. The amcrest nvr does not even list its own amcrest cameras in the pull-down camera selector. My laptop was so horrified by the security issues in the software i had to create an exception to allow the pages to load and the gui looks like it was built by a high school kid in 1998. I knew that for the price it would not be awesome software but wow. This is amazingly bad. They've added a lot of variables and "functionality" to the software that just add to the confusion and most don't work exactly how you would think. It took me about a week of working on the setup and the software a little bit every day to get it to do what i wanted (record motion to the nvr and send motion-triggered images to my email) but i think i have it working well enough. So at the moment i am happy enough with the camera but i would not recommend it for someone who has not worked with terrible software before or who wants a camera up and running immediately.

I have several of these amcrest cameras in various models. The bullet models are easy to point and have a decent field of view without being fisheyed. I like the poe models, since i like using my wifi for my phone/tablets/and laptop without worrying about my bandwidth or competing with my neighbors for channels. The poe allows a single rj45 cable for hookup rather than having to find a way to string a power supply where you need it as well. (but the compromise is you need a poe router or a poe injector). For a resolution comparison, i believe 1080p is about a 2 megapixel camera, and this is a 3mp camera. It is very sharp. They way i use the cameras is i use the 3 and 4 megapixel bullets for distant shots like down my driveway, or across my backyard. Then i use one of the dome cameras near my doorways that have a slightly wider field of view and more tamper resistant. While i really like the cameras, they are not perfect. To view the video live, you need a special download for your browser, that no longer works on most browsers, but there is a chrome plugin that works, but its inconvenient. I have the cameras email me a picture when they have a motion event, and i use my synology nas for storage of motion video (i already had the nas). I don't use their cloud service, or one of the dedicated dvr products (i bet the dvr are nice, but expensive). Initially i had these cameras using built in ftp to write to the nas when they had a motion event, but they store the recordings in a very security system specific format that will irritate you when you try to play with a normal video player and i didn't like the way the security timeline was presented with multiple cameras. Instead, i now use the surveillance station that is built into my nas to organize and watch my videos, but my nas only give you 2 camera license for free, so i have extra cost involved to allow the camera to be used the way i want on another product. I have bought several and will buy more if i need more, since i understand their limitations, and i am okay with them for my needs. I would add a photo of what kind of image the camera generates, but i had my review rejected before because online store though i might accidentally be revealing personal information by showing you a picture of my driveway.

Great image, but just okay software. . I bought this camera as an upgrade from my old analog black/white security camera. The image quality is simply amazing both during day and night mode. I set it up as a ip camera and use sighthound to monitor the video feed. I found the included software to be lacking. It isn't compatible with all browsers due to old java. But otherwise it allows you to configure the camera easily enough. The ios app isn't too bad though. . When installing it, it isn't mentioned or intuitive, but you can rotate the camera mount after you attach the screws to the wall. . The viewing angle is pretty wide, enough to cover a whole driveway and more. But the camera size itself means it isn't hidden by any means.

I purchased two of these cameras for my growing video surveillance system. They actually were replacing two cameras in the same location that were sub-par in every aspect. They are both mounted outside under the eave of a porch, one pointing towards the porch entrance/driveway and the other back towards the side of the house/barn doors. The size and build quality is top notch, with an easy to adjust base system and clean cable routing. Poe makes the install very clean and simple. I pulled both cat-5e cables into the basement to a poe injector and main switch. Both cameras are now on the same ups that powers my server (which runs a blueiris vm) so they are protected from power incidents. . After plugging them in for the first time, i was amazed at the image quality and field of view! the fov was easily double that of the ones they replaced. The picture was clear, easily able to see the license plate of a car parked in the driveway. Overall system stability is what i was looking, since my old ones always dropped the stream to blue iris. The amcrest prohd cameras never drop their stream to blue iris, ever. They have been running nonstop for about a month now, no issues at all! their web portal is very detailed and provides the user with all the knobs and buttons to tweak these to your liking. I can truthfully say i can depend on these to look over my house when i am on the other side of the country for a week at a time. . All in all, i highly recommend these cameras.

I got the 8 channel nvr with 4 -3mp cameras. This product worked exactly as expected. The only problem i had was that the motion detect snaphots were not appearing in my email alerts. I submitted the issue on the amcrest website and they set me up with an appointment the same day. The amcrest technician was excellent. I appreciated that it was a us based person so that it was easy to understand what he was saying. Sorry, this does make a difference in customer service experience. The technician ported into my pc and spent about 45 minutes patiently working with me to resolve the issue. He even got another tech involved at some point. A week later i am still tweaking the settings of sensitivity vs threshold so that i do not get 50 false alert messages every night but that is apparently just what you have to do since there are so many variables to deal with. . As far as quality of product, the cameras are very solid and i am hoping they will hold up for a long time to warrant the higher price i paid for this system as opposed to some of the mass marketed options. The nvr seems to be a good piece of electronics. One of the reasons i selected this product was that it came with a 2 gb hard drive - which should be enough to allow 20 to 30 days of 4 channel recording in always-on mode. . We are glad to have the extra 4 channels for later camera addition. We would need to add to more external cameras to get 100% monitoring of the house (view of all windows). But we are more likely to add one or two interior cameras which can be remotely aimed and zoomed. . I spent a very long time shopping for nvr/camera systems - looking at maybe 20 youtube videos before i made my choice. I fully recommend this system to anyone wanting to hit that balance between quality, service and cost.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

The hardware is nice but the user interface is horrible. . There is a bug where it assigns cameras to random channels. Their developers know about the problem but have yet to fix it. I found a workaround by duplicating a camera to every channel except the one you want to use for the new camera; then attach the new camera and it will be assigned to that one empty channel. . Also, the ethernet cables will not fit in the weatherproofing adapters for the camera. To use those adapters, you will have to cut the end of the ethernet cable off, slide it through the adapter, then crimp on a new rj45 connector. (see photos)

Worked great for a couple hours; however, less than 8 hours later it was super saturated with blue and nothing i did fixed it. I attached an image of a hikvision dome camera (been in use for months) that looks down the side of the facility and then this amcrest that looks top down over a path. They both show the exact same truck at the exact same moment. It provides an idea of how bad the blue saturation levels are. . Making it black&white does help a little but since it's over saturated the quality of image is still extremely poor.

H. Margaret, Wandsworth says

Do not buy this product. The software has glitches that basically makes it impossible to review footage before you pull it from the systems internal storage. There is a problem with play back feature as well, it will only let you review, the day of, and any too close to real-time doesn't load. Anything more than a day old only shows a few seconds of the clip if you are extremely lucky. There is a run-away clock defective that causes the system to inaccurately lable clips and time spacing. From my experience, the tech staff is all foreign, have thick accents and use scripts, which it extremely stressful in resolving issues or asking questions. As it was explained to me by a very rude representative, that spoke decent english, because this was not purchased directly from amcrest, they have no obligation to fulfill any of their warranties/guarantees, including the technical support. Even though i've been in contact since i bought the first unit, had to return it because the packaging was so damaged. The second unit also arrived looking like it had taken some serious impacts but wasn't blatantly destroyed. Everything i needed to learn or adjust required hours of research and trouble shooting with the internet as my only aid. Amcrest tech support isn't effective or even helpful to the process. Do more research, find a quality company that will stand behind their products. Btw firstvision technologies and shelfspace security are both part of this company, as a representative claiming to be a supervisor explained in detail. Regardless, this company sucks

If you want a camera that breaks after a few months and support takes up a month of your time to rma the stinking camera then buy this one. If not might i recommend you go with a better brand? . . Update 09/25/2017 9:00am. I got a refurbished camera from synology via the rma process (that only took 6 weeks). I did discover that as long as you disable the substream feature of this camera it is able to stream at 3 megapixels. I still only give 3 stars (used to be only 2 stars) because the features advertised on this camera are not all functioning. My guess is that to keep the production costs lower on this camera they used a cpu that is too slow to deal with two streams of h. 264 video. . Update 09/25/2017 4:30pm. Well, after running for a few hours the camera has a noticeable problem at the full 3 megapixel resolution. The playback is always two seconds stutters (the frames jump forward by 10 frames in less than a second every other second with the recording at 5 frames per second). Effectively the camera pauses for 1. 5 seconds and then catches up very rapidly to realtime in . 5 seconds, then pauses for 1. 5 seconds, then catches up in . 5 seconds, and the cycle continues until the resolution on the camera is reduced to 2 megapicels and then the camera playback is fairly smooth. I am unimpressed with this camera and because it is unable to play back video at the advertised resolution i am taking away a star.

Update october 2017: reporting back that amcrest has finally worked an issue out regarding the disk drive matter, thanks to efforts by carlos and others at amcrest. Adding some stars to my review. Still awaiting a resolution to the perceived firmware issue. . Prior update:. The hardware seems decently manufactured, but their firmware updates are infrequent and when they do come out it's been my experience that they cause problems. I've been working for several months to get problems with this system resolved. Unfortunately both their techinical support and rma department have been unable to resolve issues with their nvr equipment and have been unwilling to make it right for the customer. I sent in the nvr for an rma replacement since tech support could not resolve my issues (serious problems with the unit after updating the firmware). . I sent the unit back with the bundled wd 2tb purple surveillance hard drive installed (a good dependable drive), as it had been purchased. The refurbished nvr returned was diskless. I contacted amcrest and pointed out that they forgot to return the drive. I had to wait nearly another week for a disk to be received. What i got was a cheap, low-end seagate drive that has many, many complaints on online store as being unreliable and prone to break down quickly. And the replacement nvr, with the same suspect firmware installed, had the same issues as the one returned. I tried to get amcrest to make this right by replacing the drive with what i returned. Another week of emails and i'm finally told they will not replace my drive, which i paid for, like-for-like due to their policies. . All of these problems were caused by amcrest, who are unwilling to make it right for their customer due to their policies. So i now have an nvr with problems and a sub-standard disk drive that i have no doubt will fail soon, and amcrest will provide no further support or make this right. Do you wish to do business with a company like this? do you want to spend hundreds of dollars and be told that they can't help you due to their policies? i was willing to wait for another firmware update to see if the problems were resolved. I simply wanted the same model of drive returned to make me sufficiently satisfied. Instead i am here warning others about this company and its policies. Avoid amcrest and it's products unless you enjoy frustration and wasting your money.

This review is divided into two parts, the hardware and the software. First the hardware. The camera is very small and easily overlooked. If you wish visibility to be a deterrent then you need more to draw attention to the existence of the camera. The poe in-line rj45 connector extends through a pig-tail extension out the bottom with a slot provided if you wish to extend out the back. It can be mounted so that the vulnerable cable is completely covered and not exposed. Video was sharp but colors a bit muted. Adjustments are provided that can correct. Ir performance was fine. Motion triggers were satisfactory. All-in-all, the hardware earns 5 stars. . The software is a different story. Initial setup was most easily performed with a smart phone. That was the easy part. That said, be prepared to spend a great deal of time attempting to find a computer browser that will show you live video. There are not many left. Non-video setup such as email can be setup with just about any browser and is relatively easy. It is the live video part that is the problem. My best luck was with internet explorer. I was also able to get google chrome to work with a cumbersome plug-in. If you are a techie then you will probably figure out a way to get it all set up. If you are not, then i would advise choosing another product. Amcrest simply must upgrade the viewing software. As it is, it is unacceptable to expect the customer to keep searching until he or she finds a browser that still works. I own two of these cameras and will purchase a third, but only because, once setup, they work well and are attractively priced. I am also a techie who keeps an old computer around with outdated versions of browsers loaded. It is a shame that amcrest lets this otherwise great product ship with such inferior methods of live viewing on a computer. One word of caution. This device can broadcast private video of your home around the world so it is extremely important that you upgrade the firmware and set a new, secure password immediately.

The image from the camera is good, but the setup is quite painful. The camera arrived well packaged in a protective box with protective film over the dome. The software to configure the camera is quite basic but functional if it is being used as a standalone camera. After a lot of fiddling around i managed to set the ip address to match my network. Then the problems started: i connected this camera to a dvr. The image was skewed by 90 degrees. If i leave the image rotated it records fine. If i use the amcrest configurator to rotate the image the right way up then the dvr doesn't get a signal from the camera. Amcrest says it is a dvr problem and the dvr supplier says it is a camera problem. Catch 22! so, i bent the mounting bracket that the camera is fixed to so that the camera is pointing the right way as i couldn't use the adjustment within the camera to get the picture i need. Really don't think i should have to do this, but at least i have it working.

I have a number of ip3m-956e & ip3m-941 cameras, but this applies to all amcrest cameras as far as i can tell. . If you are thinking of using amcrest cameras and need to save the recorded video to local storage such as a networked hard drive, nas, nvr, etc, you should be aware that there is a serious security risk with these cameras. The cameras are only able to store to a device which either requires *no* password (nas) at all, or they transfer the password credentials over the network in *clear, unencrypted text* (ftp). . For non-password protected storage, this means that anyone on the same network as your cameras can potentially get to that storage device and access and delete all of your video files! for passwords transferred over the network in clear text, it means that anyone on the network can snoop out the password, and again, access and delete all your files! . . This is a huge security hole, and i am shocked that it exists. I keep wondering what the company could possibly be thinking, allowing such poor security to exist in their cameras. It has long been standard practice to only transfer passwords in encrypted format over networks. Security professionals would consider this kind of unprotected implementation to be security malpractice. . Sadly, this seems to be common in the cam industry, not just with amcrest. But i will tell you, i would not have, and i wouldn't recommend to anyone else, buying a security camera with such poor network security! from a quick look, it appears that axis cameras do support secure ftp (sftp) transfer - do your research before purchasing. Buyer beware!

R. Hadley, Colorado says

This was a good product but the reason for returning was that the camera mounts don t have 3-axis adjustability. Once you mount the cameras, you can only adjust the camera along the x and y axis (up, down, left, right). The build quality was good and the software was easy to navigate. You do need a hard drive like the description says if you want to record. Overall good product for the price point just missing some features i wanted, i opted for a 4mp swann system instead.

V. Susana, North Somerset

This is awkward to write as i appreciate the opportunity to do business with you and desperately wanted to like the product however, as wonderful as it operated during the day when we tested it at night prior to installing it the night vision was terrible. I compared it to a foscam and the foscam was "much" better at night but not as great as this camera during daylight. Add to this i also tried the amcrest ptz and had issues with it and there is solicited misinformation. I spoke with technical support in houston and they were not able to resolve the issues. I understand that they private label another's product so real time in house technical support was moderate; yes they tried and were very nice but they simply could not answer questions nor resolve key issues. . I originally gave 5 stars but after having 5 days and mixed at this point. Took me about 14 hours to install but that's not there fought you have to run wires. I have spent 5 days in arrow on phone with 5 deferent techs and all sound like from india and have hard time understand all were nice but 3 out of 5 seem to rush you off without making sure you got everything you needed. The other problem i have is they do not wont to tell you how to do yourself and want to hook up remote to your computer and quickly run thru. This is good and bad. Anytime you hook up remote there is danger that they can come back and get in your computer. I have spent and 40 mins a day or more on phone. The software that come with nvr does not work with video playback at all. Locks up and will not fast forward without locking up. They did not even tell me why and just told me i needed internet explorer which i did not have and to load up and go thru browser that way to make video work. You can forget about book having any trouble shooting info and does not tell you how to use functions at all. I will make my mind up in couple more weeks. Also i having problems with camera 5 loading up . Very frustrated at this point with

I bought this system for installation in a large airplane hangar. The nvr is not the most user friendly, but after you get used to their interface, it's not too bad. Camera quality is good although one of them has already begun flickering on and off. As a precaution, i ran another ethernet cable with new cable ends, and it still flickers from time to time, so i assume that camera is on it's way out, or there is an issue with the power injection at the nvr. These camera's and the nvr work as described and promised. Very clear video for a reasonable price. I hope they hold up, because i'd like to install the same or similar system in about 25 retail locations to replace older analog systems. *note* to access from a remote pc or laptop, make sure you open both the port and tcp port in your router.

Latest update:. I still standby by comments on the technical aspects of this model camera, however i am amending my comments somewhat on dealing with the company. Though i still think that amcrest has some policy and process issues to improve it would be unfair of me to not report that the rma department worked harder to resolve one of my issues. So, i am increasing my rating and amending the title accordingly. . Update: as with the other amcrest products i've purchased i'm not too happy with the software and, with most of the cameras, the viewing angle. In retrospect to my original positive review i've come to realize that these products are overpriced for the features you get. I do think they are fairly well made, but pricey for the viewing angle you get, and the zoom capabilities. The image quality degrades quickly if you try to zoom in. Top all of this off with a couple of experiences i've had with amcrest's support and rma departments and i can no longer recommend products from this company. I was a fan of their products and bought many of them, but no more. You will regret your purchases, especially if you have to deal with the company directly. . Original review:. I've not actually gotten this installed yet, but my current review is on the apparent quality of the hardware. It seems well made and assume that i will be pleased with the final outcome. I have four other amcrest bullet cameras and nvr installed and am generally pleased. Though i must say, as others have, the software could use a lot of improvement. I also wish that amcrest would offer a well-priced external poe ptz camera with 4mp. Apparently if you want those features you must pay 3x the cost of this unit. Amcrest is good at sending out discount promotions for future purchases to email subscribers. I will update this review if i have any significant items to relate.

Product worked great for 6 months. After updating firmware the 3rd time the cameras went fuzzy. Barely recognizable picture and lots of ghosting. Under warranty and i returned them and they sent back two refurbished units. I normally dont care if units are refurbished as long as they work and was happy with the outcome until 2 months later when the 2 units acted up again. The other 2 cameras are unaffected on the same nvr. I dont like assuming but this is pathetic. Im not one of the people to get bent out of shape about things but it took about 1. 5-2 months to return all products as they needed to do weeks of one on one tech calls. If i had to do it over again i would not buy amcrest . They seem to have the right intentions but lack the capability to accomodate all the returns form the hoards of people that have issues with their products

From: a ticket on december 17, 2017, 10:22 am cst. . "comments: product is not as advertised, poe does not work with this camera. The reason i'm only finding this out now is since wpa2 was compromised we've decided to move our cameras to poe. This opened up the incredibly frustrating can of worms that has been dealing with amcrest support. I believe i am well within my rights to request a refund. Also this is the second rma i have submitted in the last month. The first one i never received a response, i'm not even surprised at this point. ". . Response "you might need additional equipment to convert it, into poe, if it isn't advertised as such. ". -lol funny because it's in the title and he had the model number, really knowledgeable staff. Haha. . After asking a simple question about poe i couldn't get a direct response. The poe was a simple question. The fact i can't even get a straight answer is pretty alarming. . To make matters worse. The software doesn't even work any more after the updates, the desktop application doesn't recognize any of the pcs running pc-nvr. The old software from the disk does, but obviously that is insecure to be running outdated software like that. . The software does not work with windows server 2012. The software runs challenge. Exe which by most resources is considered to be malware. . The point is i bought this camera because it was supposed to be poe, which to me means it is ready for poe without an extra $50 of equipment. I also bought it because it was suppose to have outstanding software and support. I might as well have bought a better camera with that $50 that would have better software and also could do poe out of the box. Probably better support too. (yes i have an injector). . I'm sick a tired of troubleshooting with this camera, i'm actually in it too so it's pretty brutal how bad it is. All that to say they want me to pay 40 usd just for a replacement of the same crap camera with the same crap software, unacceptable.

Inconsistent quality. Although the camera itself seems to be fine, couldn't remove dome on 2 of the 4 cameras i received. Now, i have go through the pain of returning/replacing them and have the installer come back again. These camera seem pretty good so far, but read the small print on the warranty. I bought a few other amcrest which came doa on one and another died about 6 weeks later. It has a 1 year warranty, but the caveat is a $15 warranty processing fee. Your best bet is to go with another vendor, these are all the same quality cameras from china, just look somewhere that offers a better warranty or better quality control. Many people are aware of home alarm systems and the pay per month style of home security. For some, the security of a monitored system is reassuring. This is true for myself and my family. I choose to have vivint smart home and i love the protection they provide and the peace of mind that my fire alarms, exterior and indoor systems are monitored. I honestly would not have it any other way. However, this is not for everyone. Many people may forego separate, unmonitored, protection/cameras due to the complicated technology itself. Some of the technology is not straight forward. You may think you know what you are getting, but you may get something else entirely. . Take the amcrest 3mp poe bullet camera for example. I may not be a computer engineer, i may not work specifically in the tech industry, but i am not a novice. It is incredibly frustrating that this product does not work out of the box. I repeat, there is no way to use this product as it is shipped. It did not come with any type of mechanism to provide power to the camera. There was no ethernet or ac adaptor included. Before this product, i was unaware of what poe meant. I did not have any idea that you could have power over ethernet, as my home router does not have a poe slot. I did not have a poe adaptor. I did google the company and found a set of 6 cameras and a nvr recording system on online store for $650. I also found a separate listing for a qcam, but most of the reviews talk about poe and plugging it into the larger system. In fact, it seems that online store had separated the single camera as a separate listing. These are not the same camera that i have been given to review. There are numerous concerns i have with this product. I will detail many of them below. Essentially, the product ships without any included power source, the manual seems generic (1 cable included in the box), it seems that it was an oversight and that this was meant to be an add on piece to a much larger kit. Oh and the app on ios is just plain bad (more below). . Packaging:. The product comes packaged in a rectangular gray box measuring at 7 long by 3 9/16 wide by 3 3/4 tall. On the front is a pictorial representation of the camera and images of the features of the camera. It lists 3mp superior resolution, 98 feet night vision, mobile viewing, 81 degree viewing angle, quick and easy setup (more on this below), ip67 (ingress protection), power over ethernet. The front has blue ellipse (leaf shaped) bubbles itemizing the above options. Turning the packaging onto its side, you see similar information to that detailed on the front. Really, the only useful piece of information here is that it tells you that you can stream 2048 1536 20 frames per second and that there is motion sensing capability. The other side is incredibly busy and overwhelming. It displays the same leaf shaped icons as the front of the box. I am unsure why they recreate these here. It also lists all of the specs in very small font. This seems quite overwhelming actually. Listing facts like electronic shutter speed auto/manual 1s-1/100000s, image sensor, max ir leds length (98 feet), white balance, gain control, lens type (fixed), etc. Much of this information is irrelevant to a large number of people. Let s be honest, techies are into that stuff. I like to know the capabilities, but i want to know information that actually matters to my use of the product. The back of the product yet again shows very similar information to the front. . Opening the lid of the box, there is a layer of foam. Inside of the foam is the camera, which weighs 13. 6 ounces. The camera is quite sleek and reminds me of the typical camera you may see in a department store. The camera has a single silver sticker labeling the model, the input power 12v . 2a and a qr code. Amcrest is painted on the sides. On the top of the camera is a set screw, which allows you to move the sun shade cover very slightly. This does not move far, as it only has a 1 inch slot to slide. Turn the screw counterclockwise, slide the lens cover forward and then turn the screw clockwise. This provides roughly 1/2 of coverage across the top, which seems underwhelming. The camera has a ball and socket like joint, attached to a black 3 diameter base with 3 screw holes. Out of the base of the camera is 14 inches of cord. This is long enough to get through masonry, through a wall and into the home allowing for the ip67 status of the device (ip67 complete dust protection and submersion in water up to 3 feet for 30minutes). This is more than capable of withstanding rain and storms. The cable has 2 ports, 1 for ethernet and an ac power plug. The camera is really professional, hefty and feels that it is made of quality materials. Unfortunately, i wish it worked. . In the box:. There are a few accessories included with the box. First, the company includes a sealed bag containing three 1-inch screws with drywall anchors. This will allow for easy installation. There was an open bag with black plastic pieces. These are designed to seal the ethernet power port, to maintain the ip67 status. This bag was already opened when i received the box, with a corner torn from the plastic. There is a rubber o ring to attach to the ethernet port and a rubber cylinder to allow attachment of the ac adaptor. I could not get the ethernet port cover to work, as it appears you need to apply the plastic cover before the end of the ethernet cable is crimped on. There is a mini cd rom disc, an important security notice card informing you to make sure you have the latest firmware. There is a warranty card detailing the unlimited life term technical support and a quick start guide. . Quick start guide:. Included is a 3 1/8 x 4 3/4 user manual. Quickly thumbing through the manual, you can see the following sections: how to setup your amcrest camera, quick start guide app setup, desktop access, could access, web access, information and links. You can download the app amcrest from ios app store, google play store and online store. The manual starts out detailing camera setup. The company notes that they have included multiple ways to set up, view and operate the camera to make your experience easy and simple. I wanted to first set up the app, to be able to use and my camera. Step 1 instructs you to connect the camera to a power over ethernet jack (poe) on your router or switch using an ethernet cable (1 cable included in the box). I experienced two problems with this same step. First, there was no included ethernet cable. This was not that big of a deal as i have plenty of ethernet cables lying around. The other issue was the fact that my router has no poe port. I looked back through the products and noted that there were 2 ways that the camera could accept power, but neither an ac adaptor or ethernet cable were included in the box. The company sent the package without any way to charge this device or any way to turn it on. This was a huge disappointment. This device is unusable in it current form and for most it would have quickly been returned to online store. . I thumbed through the manual, read it cover to cover and this is where i noted there was a listed online user manual. I went to the website and downloaded the user manual. There are links to youtube videos through this site. Unfortunately, none of the listed videos show me how to actually set up my camera. So, i read on. Section 3. 1 tells you to not connect to poe and ac power source. It also says that the ac power source was included (which it was not). Under section 3. 2 of the user manual, it shows an installation map (template) to install the device. It states to stick the installation sticker on the designated surface (no sticker). You then drill 3 holes through the sticker, insert expansion bolt (anchor) (no sticker). Then tighten the screws. Now i am just plain frustrated. Section 4 then goes on to detail similar details to the quick setup guide. . Having been incredibly agitated we reached out to the company. They did send a separate box with an ethernet cable and an ac adaptor. The ac adaptor is rather large and there is no way that this would be able to be included in the box that shipped to me. The ethernet cable also would not fit into the box that the camera was shipped in either. I followed the quick start guide. I downloaded the amcrest view pro app. This app has a total of 36 reviews, 2 stars average. The light app had no reviews at the time of writing of this review. Why would you use the light app over the full app when they are both free? many people left negative reviews of this app. After using it, i can see exactly why. . I plugged the ethernet cable into my router, i plugged the ac power into the wall. Accessing the app, you will be given a series of screens to click through. Start by pushing the 3 horizontal lines along the top left. Then select device manager, and then press the plus icon top right (near p2p. Your camera will open a qr reader. Scan the qr code on the camera. It will then prompt you to enter username and password. This process was straight forward and easy. However, this is where the ease ended. When you open the app you are greeted by live view across the top of the iphone 6s plus. You need to click the + in the center of the screen. From here you can click the name of the camera, the one you chose, and then click ipc. It is frustrating that it takes 3-4 clicks just to activate the camera. Why is there no short cut that takes you directly to the feed when you open the app? the motion detection does not work. You can use the app, with a series of about 4 screen presses, to access a fixed camera at home. The app is not very good. It took a long time to try to connect (roughly 2 minutes). Seriously, check out the negative reviews on the ios store. This is a good indication of what you will run into. . I am not a fan of the device, i am not a fan of the app and i am definitely not going to install this onto my computer or server. I would say that 90+% of online store users would have sent this back due to the faults noted above. It is frustrating that it did not work. The app was very slow, clunky and in general is just not good. The product does not work as intended. Honestly the picture quality that i received was quite good. This is a blessing in disguise, as the picture is very clear. Unfortunately it is laggy, the motion software does not work on the iphone and i had to continue to reset settings to get the device to function. It must remain plugged into the router and to power, essentially making a computer room security system. Again, this is a wired option that will significantly limit the ability to use this in various locations. I have been really disappointed with the amount of effort i have placed into the app and device. If i bought this for personal use, i would have returned it long before now. No power options, no wall mount template, no ease of use on the app. Overall i would not use this device, and i will not. I will stick with vivint as they have not let me down. . In regards to the amcrest pro hd camera, unless you want to spend time trying to get this system to work, consider alternative options. I rate the device and app at 2/5. . "this product was received at a free or discounted price in exchange for my review. I am a technology journalist and pride myself on providing fair and honest reviews. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. "

Out of the box the unit would not take the default password of admin/admin. After much digging i found an article on how to reboot the camera to factory defaults by shorting it out (placing a paper clip over two copper contacts) on the main board, did that a few times and while the camera reset (i got a new ip) it still didn't take the default info. . I called support who said, try it again. I did that, now they said to email to setup an rma - i just spent 20 minutes on hold to get you, now i have to email? do you not create a ticket? . . This thing is now mounted 16' in the air due to a manlift rental, where it will likely live till i get another lift rental. This camera cost me a ton. We have used dahua overseas cameras that worked perfect oob. . Stay away!

This is not poe - it requires a separate 12 volt power input.

Here is what you need to know about amcrest and their poe outdoor security system. My specific system was the (amcrest qcam 3 megapixel (2048 x 1536) 8ch network poe video security system (nvr kit) four 3mp poe weatherproof bullet ip cameras, 65ft night vision). Unless you live in the desert be prepared for pins 4 and 5 (they supply the power and rust the quickest) to disintegrate in aproximately 2 years. Since the whole 4 camera kit cost approx $700 and each poe camera lists for $129 you can see it is a pricy mistake as the cameras are not repairable. The cameras have a one year warrentee so be prepared for them to inform you that there is nothing they can do via email. I opened up a support ticket and send photos clearly showing the rust issue. I also asked the support technician to have someone call me but that request was ignored. Also, when calling for support expect to use an automated system and then wait atleast 15 minutes before someone picks up. Everytime. Best you have a speaker phone and keep yourself occupied so you do not waste too much of your own time. I called them a number of time to give them a reasonable chance to discuss amd address my issue but this was to no avail. Anyway, in conclusion, i do not recommend this outdoor system. . Below is my original support ticket request. I purchased the amcrest qcam 3 megapixel system (see attached receipt and photos) and now i see that pins 4 and 5 are faulty due to rust on 2 of my camera. I did not check the other 2 cameras yet but they are still functioning for now. The cameras were placed under an overhang on the house which limited the exposure to rain. Are the cameras repairable and what should i have done to prevent this from happening? if they are not repairable than i estimate that these cameras may only last 2 years under normal conditions in my area of the country (i don t live in the desert). Please advise and thank you.

This is another ip camera where the built-in ftp server is broken! if you want to transfer video detection files or do some 24/7 recording and do not have a physical dvr you can set your pc up as a local virtual dvr machine. Install zilla ftp server on the computer. Setup ftp settings right in the camera interface. Tested things out and literally zero results. It is almost like the ftp service has been disabled within the camera, and that my friends is currently the only way to get files from the camera to your computer. Unless you pay for their cloud service. Either this is a tactical move on amcrest's part or just typical lousy programming by the devs. I think i've tried 3 or 4 different models of amcrest camera's and the built-in ftp client just doesn't work. I'll leave the ftp server's console window open, so i'll be able to see even if the camera tries to connect and it doesn't even attempt to connect or test. If i load up an ftp client right on that same desktop use all the same settings as i did in the camera interface i'll be able to log into the ftp server with no issues. I do feel sorry for you guys who can't record simply using the camera ui, that's really a shame. By the way, i've tried reolink, hikvision, foscam, vivotek, even a no name generic brand and the built-in ftp services worked fine. I kind of just have a feeling they are pushing customer's to pay for their cloud service by disabling the only way transfer video files to a simple folder on a local computer. Yes, i have contacted support i believe three times about this previously and i have been told the same thing. "we will inform our devs to look into it and try to find a solution". Never to be heard from again. And yes, i know there are programs like blue iris that can be used and will work just fine, but you'd at least want all your camera's baseline functions working. I would.

Hardware looks good, i bought 2 at the same time. Updated the firmware immediately with the same file from am rests website. The store to a non amcrest storage is an epic failure in the software. I am trying - for a couple of months now, by myself, because amcrest refuse to help me, to use the nas feature (1st level support flat out said it won't work, use ftp) now trying ftp to my wd mycloud nas. Forget it. Highly unstable connection, the 2 cameras submit file structures differently (remember i used the same file to do the firmware update? ) one stored ok for a while but the connection was so unstable when i went into the settings again to copy them, it failed to continue. The other started, stopped & just gave up trying. Both can be viewed ok in real time but they are a disaster for the software. I really don't want to add more expense to just try an amcrest nvr to see if that will work. Honestly i thought they looked so very promising, but the software has destroyed their quality. It is awful. I may have to look at getting other onvif compatible cameras & running something like blue iris to finish the system controls. Really really disappointed.

For a product like this, the camera is only as good as the service. Horrible experience. . I began looking for a camera to monitor my front door after fedex claimed a missing package had been delivered. I wasn't sure if they delivered to the wrong location or if it had been stolen, so i decided a camera would be a good investment in case of future occurrences. I wanted a poe camera and this seemed like a solid choice. Setup was a little quirky, requiring a code from the bottom of the camera, which after installation isn't easily accessible, but once i got the camera added it seemed to work well. Live view looked decent and when the camera detected motion, it stored the video on amcrest cloud. I upgraded to the 7 days of storage instead of the free 4 hours. It seemed like a great solution, until i needed it to work. . You see, for a product like this, you don't really need it until you do. And recently, i had another package disappear from my front porch. I jump on amcrest cloud to review video and find - nothing. No video whatsoever has been captured in the past 7 days. Since i go out daily to check the mail, i knew that at least should be on there, but nothing. I call amcrest technical support - which took me forever to find a number, took me forever to go through the phone prompts to get to the right person, and then i waited on hold forever before finally getting to speak with someone with a thick accent who i could barely understand. Once i explained the situation, the rep explained this situation happens "rarely" but i would need to reset the camera so it could "re-sync" with the cloud servers. Keep in mind, the camera was operating fine otherwise. I could pull up a live view from amcrest cloud - it just stopped capturing video. I explained how very frustrated i was that i purchased this solution to catch package thieves and now that i needed it, it would not serve it's purpose. . I reset the camera and indeed, it fixed the issue. A week later, i left town for thanksgiving and decided to test the camera again when i realize it hasn't been capturing video. It had stopped again a few days prior (a "rare" issue. Indeed). Upon the realization that the camera could not be relied upon to serve the purpose for which it was originally purchased, i saw no reason to continuing paying for 7 days of storage, so i canceled and reverted back to the "free" 4 hour plan. Today, i go to check the live feed and as a gift to me, amcrest took the liberty of removing the camera from my account entirely. Now to add it back to see live video i will have to remove the camera to get the code from the bottom. Nice. . So i'll end this review as i started. The camera itself might be an ok piece of hardware. But you should remember it's only as good as the service that comes with it. And i can tell you i will not trust amcrest in the future. I'm currently looking for an option to replace it.

If you are using an apple mac computer there is no way to locally store videos or photos triggered by motion. I spoke to technical support and they said the only option for local storage of automated recordings is to buy an amcrest video recorder nvr, a $250-300 piece of hardware, and interface it with my system. Pc users can save recordings directly to their hard drive, or use a network attached storage drive (nas). But if you have a mac and you don't want to use the cloud then you have to spend more. Amcrest advertises its ios app however don't be mislead-it only allows for realtime viewing of the camera. I already had the cameras wired in and the required multi port poe injector and am forced to spend more money now on hardware i do not want. Mac users should be warned before purchase that local storage is not a real option so they can look elsewhere.
