Review for prograde zigbee wireless motion

Price was $19.99. It works fine as a sensor, a little less plug and play than other sensors, but other than that it's ok.

Preface

This motion sensor works extremely well with smartthings but the way its sold/advertised is pretty bad unfortunately. A lot of consumers are going to think this simply works with st out of the box but that absolutely isn't the case. No matter what you do it will never pair to your st hub unless you do the following:. . 1. Do a google search for "bosch motion sensor smartthings". Click the first link titled "bosch motion detector". This should bring you to the st forums. 2. In the thread scroll down until you see the post by username "sandyis". Click the link in this post. It'll take you to github. 3. Look towards the top right of the github page and click the "raw" button. 4. Select all of the text (code) on the screen. In windows you can do ctrl+a. 5. Right click and select "copy". 6. Go to ide on smartthings and login. 7. Select your hub and then click "my device handlers" at the top of the screen. 8. Click "create a new device handler" at the top right of the screen. 9. Look towards the top left and click "from code". 10. Copy the code you copied in step 5 into the text box. Click "create". 11. Look towards the top right of the screen and click "save" and "publish". 12. Put the bosch motion sensor in pairing mode (by holding the bottom on the back for four seconds). 13. Open up the st mobile app and click "add things". . The motion sensor should now be detected by st. . Note: to conserve battery use, this detector only reports motion alerts to smartthings once every 3 minutes. The three minute timer starts once it first detects motion. Once motion is detected, it immediately goes back to 'no motion' for three minutes, even if motion continues during those three minutes. This means that if you trigger motion and then leave for a minute and come back, the detector will not trigger a new alert since only one minute had passed since the last alert. In short: this motion detector will work well in most cases but if you need very accurate alerts (as in reporting multiple alerts within a short time span) you'll want to look elsewhere. This takes a few more minutes to set up in smartthings because you have to install an updated device handler, but it really isn't that difficult to do. And we'll worth the effort. I have a couple different motion detectors around the house, and this is the best one. I was throwing dog toys from the other room to test the pet immunity, and was quite surprised. -B. Laura

PROS
  • A little confusing to set up at first, but afterwards it works flawlessly with smartthings
  • Well i ve owned this since the beginning of october and i m very happy so far. Being a security professional and testing the smart things hub i didn t want to try the home monitoring option unless i had a pet friendly motion sensor. . I can say for sure that these zigbee grade sensors are just as reliable as their wireless cousins. The temperature is spot on with my thermostat and actual room temperature which is a big bonus. . They re also going to be less likely to give false alarms due to my two cats. . I m confident that when following proper placement these sensors in conjunction with the smartthings hub will deliver a better home monitoring experience. . The only downside as it is with the majority of cloud based hubs is that the connections isn t local and processing is done on smartthings server. . Set-up was a breeze when following the tinyurl included on the packaging from the distributor. Copied and pasted the code into the smart things developer api, put the hub into discovery mode and put the batteries into the sensor. The hub and app found the sensor in about 6 seconds. . Even though this is a pet immune sensor if you have large dogs you may still get false alarms. I recommend a indoor camera so you can visually verify any alarms.
CONS
  • This item works you have to follow the steps included in the box to set it up. The problem i have is after it detects motion it does not sense any motion for 3 minutes to save battery. This may limit some people's applications. It does not send a continuous motion signal only about a 3-second one.
  • I have emailed back and forth with my digital discount to no avail. They ask if i have a smart things hub which i stated i had in my original email. They ask if i want replacements? no if the originals don't work why would i want more of them. I have spent hours online trying to resolve the issue and have seen where cutting and pasting codes can fix this. I didn't buy these to learn to write code. I have yet to get any technical help from my digital discount and am returning these (2). If you expect these to just pair up when you turn them on good luck. My hub recognized it was a "thing" but went to la la land (i don't mean the movie) shortly afterward. I am a firm believer if you are going to sell something you should at least have minimal technical knowledge about what you sell. If anybody had this knowledge at my digital discount i never communicated with them. Good luck.
  • Probably the worst motion sensor i used so far. I followed the instructions, set up the device correct, mounted it correct and i never ever detects motion. The only time motion is detected is if i put it in test mode (not really secure).

prograde zigbee wireless motion Bosch Pro-Grade ZigBee Wireless Motion Detector ISW-ZPR1-WP13 - Requires Samsung SmartThings Hub (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

Good hardware for security purposes, not so much for automation. For security purposes, these units offer great detection range, anti tampering, and long battery life. . Range of detection is easily meeting the 20 ft spec and compares well to wired units i have in the house. The casing has a small locking tab that is used to put the unit in test mode as well as provides some measure of anti tampering; it's not easily moved with a fingernail or coin, you have to deliberately use a small flathead to unlock the case. I would presume the use of 4 aa batteries would put its life well beyond similar units that use coin size batteries, it's only been a couple of weeks so i have no way of confirming the battery life other than that it's still at 100%. The sensor is also hardcoded to only report motion at 3 minute intervals; meaning if it trips it reports it once and does not report subsequent motion again until 3 minutes have gone by. From a security use standpoint, this is fine as the first alert should already prompt immediate action; whether that's a notification or outright siren. When used across the house this approach makes even more sense; an intruder would move about the house and trigger multiple motion sensors and thus the idea of security reporting is maintained while extending battery life. If you're looking to use this for continuous motion automation (turn on/off a hallway lamp, etc. ), this is just not going to work for you. It's meant for long battery life in security scenarios. . The case makes it easy to flat or corner mount, the back piece detaches and you can drill through the case at marked points to put into the wall or i just used sticky foam pads; 8 1/2 inch 3m squares holds one of these up just fine. . On the software side, these do not work out of the box with smartthings, you have to create an account at in order to load custom devices to your hub. Once you're in, it's really as easy as copy/paste as per directions. Did it once and installed 10 of these with no issues. . These report temperature intermittently but i've found they all need to be offset by at least 4 degrees downwards, the smartthings motion sensor seemed to have better temp calibration right out of the box. That unit is also way smaller but the range is limited and has no way of corner mounting with the standard case. It does read motions constantly so i would use that for any frequent motion activated automation like hallway lights etc.

Bosch Pro-grade Zigbee Wireless Motion Detector Isw-zpr1-wp13 - Requires Samsung Smartthings Hub
Click to see NoticeBosch Pro Grade Wireless Detector Isw Zpr1 Wp13 (Computer Component)"I've been using this for about three weeks now, having previous experience (2+ years) with several smartthings 2nd gen motion sensors, as well as brief experience with an ecolink pet immune motion sensor (returned). . After a fairly simple setup, the bosch has performed flawlessly (with one exception, noted below). The time between sensing and triggering as minuscule (generally less than a second), it has yet to trigger for any of our three medium-sized cats in a high-traffic area, and i appreciate the 4 aa batteries it uses-much easier to replace with my rechargeables than the cr2450s used by other sensors. If you're the owner of small-to-mid-sized pets and have been pulling your hair out at the number of times they trigger your lights, this sensor's for you. . The only drawback, i know from experience, was related to smartthings, and not to the bosch. For reasons unknown, the smartthings hub has a tendency, from time to time, to forget components of a network (including motion sensors created by st themselves. ) a couple days ago, for the first time in three weeks, the lights stopped triggering in our dining room. I checked the st app, and sure enough, the bosch had stopped reporting. After figuring out how to put the bosch back into discovery mode, it's rejoined our network, and is once again humming along perfectly. Again: the fault of smartthings. Not of bosch."

(0) Question: I know it says samsung hub but will it also work with wink 2?

(1) Question: Do the motion sensors continuously detect motion or is there some sort of waiting period between each time it detects motion?

(2) Question: Control4 compatible thru zigbee or do i need the useless extra samsung dumbthing hub?

Aeotec Siren Gen5, Z-Wave Plus, 105dB siren strobe alerts, Plug-in, Backup battery

Very loud siren and keeps sounding even when unplugged. It has a small mute button on a side but it isn't very noticeable, i really don't think that a nervous thief will go to the sounding siren, unplug it and start analyzing it to see the button. Also it is so loud it makes you just want to go away from it. . Bad thing is that range isn't very good when connected to smartthings. If this were zigbee it would be better than z-wave because there are some mobile phones that make distortions on the signal of z-wave, my brother had a phone that when he was at my place all z-wave devices stopped working.

Protect your home and your safety with z-wave. Siren gen5 lets you add 210 lumen strobe light and 106db siren alerts to your z-wave home control system. Anti-tamper and power-out protect keeps the siren online even when your power isn't courtesy of siren gen5's inbuilt, 430 mah backup battery. Built upon gen5 and z-wave plus, aeotec's siren gen5 offers customisation and configuration via z-wave including different tones for different emergencies, adjustment of the decibles to be quieter or louder, and use of siren gen5 as a door chime. Z-wave plus certified, siren gen5 is compatible with certified z-wave gateways and software including fibaro, homeseer, indigo for mac, openhab, piper, samsung smartthings, mios vera, and wink.

Nice and loud! the led strob lights are a nice extra. Any burglar will know in an instant the alarm is activated. -Notice from K. Patton, Massachusetts

The siren is plenty loud for my home and serves its primary purpose. I have been unable to make use of the other sounds for other purposes without losing the one already set up. I don't know if this is a limitation imposed by the siren, or by my smartthings hub. I took a star off for the lack of versatility. Otherwise it works well with samsung smartthings and with alexa.

Aeotec-z-wave-strobe-alerts-battery-(zw080) set picture

- . EricksonCompact unit. Can plug into any electrical outlet. Pairs easily with the hub. It is loud but not loud enough for outside to hear it. If you can rig up an electrical outlet outside your home, e. G. Under the roof line away from the weather, you can get another siren for the outside. The benefit is the ease of pairing. The negative is the price. At like over $45 each, it is expensive. For less price, you can setup an outdoor siren that will cost much less.

Simple setup and easy to use. I was hoping i could also use it as a chime when a sensor is open, but it only operates as a siren. Also, it isn't super loud. I mean it's loud enough to hear clearly in the house and maybe just outside, but not sure it's completely enough to scare off an intruder or not.

Samsung SmartThings Motion Sensor

Works great for what i wanted it for! it alerts me on my phone when there's motion. My favorite part is that it alerts me instead of a bad guy if there ever was a scenario. I have it out in my garage so i can call the cops. Most motion sensors just start ringing at the scensor and that doesn't help anyone but the burglar i assume. Just tells him he should hurry. Great device

The samsung smartthings motion sensor can monitor movement in your home and send you alerts if there's unexpected activity when you're away. It can trigger lights and other connected devices to turn on when there is movement, and monitor temperature.

Samsung SmartThings Smart Home Hub

I picked up the samsung hub to be the "brain" for my smart home system and i couldn't be happier with it. Keep in mind this review is being written by an it professional. The device was pretty easy to install and get up and running. The app is pretty easy to use. Adding "things" to the hub was pretty simple as well. My main issue there had to do with the "things" i was installing, not the hub. So far the device has functioned exactly how i thought it would and and i am very happy with it.

Smartthings lets you easily control, monitor, and secure your home from anywhere in the world. The heart of your smart home, the samsung smartthings hub will connect all of your different smart locks, lights, outlets, thermostats, and more and let you control them from the free smartthings app. Receive notifications about what's happening in and around your home and use your smartphone to remotely control your home's security, energy usage, lighting, and more. Since smartthings is compatible with a wide variety of smart devices from different companies, once you have the smartthings hub and the free app for ios, android, or windows, you can add as many additional smartthings sensors or other popular z-wave, zigbee, or internet-connected products as you want to enhance your connected home. The samsung smartthings hub works in the us and canada. If the honeywell programmable thermostat was not detected, you may need to reset the device through a z-wave exclusion before it can successfully connect with the smartthings hub. To do so in the smartthings mobile app: 1. Tap the menu 2. Tap the hub 3. Tap z-wave utilities 4. Tap general device exclusion 5. When prompted: 1. Press the system button on the left side of the thermostat's display 2. Press and hold the blank center button until the display changes 3. The first set of numbers/arrows is the "function" section - scroll until you find "rf10" 4. The second set of numbers/arrows is the "setting" section - select 0 5. Samsung Smartthings Smart Home Hub (f hub us 2) FAQ.

This is my first shot at home automation. There was a great sale around thanksgiving and i picked one up. So far i have connected it with three wemo switches and two ge zwave wall switches, and 3 first alert smoke detectors. It works flawlessly. It also works great with alexa. One thing to consider, it doesnt not work with lutron caseta products, i am ordering a few and going to try and link them via ifttt. It also doesnt work with myq garage door openers, apparently it used to but they cut support, and doesn't work with nest, although alexa does to a limited extent. Overall i like it. I went with it over wink based on a great sale price and so so review on wink even though it has more support. I think its a great start but just the tip of an expensive iceberg. -Notice from . I have owned this hub for over a year. At first, it was 'ok'. They have done several updates and now the hub is fantastic. It is my house's central nervous system. It has allowed me to automate doors, lights, tv's etc. I use it with echo (alexa), ifttt and lifx light bulbs. The three together make a great team. It knows when i leave the house (sometimes there's a delay but not usually bad) and sets the house/security system accordingly and does the same when i arrive.

- . YvetteThis is my first time ever leaving a review, but i feel that it is needed. I did research into all the new smart hubs. My main use as of right now was to increase the security in my home, turning my home into a smart one was just a bonus. I was skeptical reading some of the reviews about smarthings. I've had my system for 3 weeks now and haven't had 1 single issue. I've found smarthings to reliable and easy to use. I haven't had any false alarms, or any issue connecting any devices! absolutely love it!

I waited quite a while before jumping into an iot environment, and only did it at a "discounted" price. I believed after a small amount of research that st seemed like a viable solution, and flexible enough. . After about 2-3 weeks with the device, and some on/off network devices to pair with it- i honestly think it is by far the best value for such a system. At this point, i've yet to suffer any serious outages. . There is some awesome flexibility to be offered when combining this with emulated hue bridges and such.

A little big, but works great with smartthings. And, i like that it uses standard aa batteries (which contributes to the large size).

I bought two of these a week or so ago and while the setup is a little more complicated than a standard motion detector these work just as well at detecting motion and it reports temperature as well. I haven't had a chance to get one mounted where i would expect it to see a pet yet but plan to do that this weekend to verify the pet immune part.

G. Kelly, Kensington and Chelsea

I m updating my review. I finally got it connected to my smartthings hub, it works great. I think the pairing instructions could be better. Honestly, for something that says it requires a smartthings hub this is not user friendly and no, my product did not come with any type of directions to pair it with the smartthings hub. I have set up lights, door locks and various other items with out a problem.

Z. Rose, North East Lincolnshire says

I am using this with smartthings. Setup was fairly straightforward, but with a couple things that were a bit unexpected. . First - setup is through a custom device handler. This isn't surprising and it's pretty well documented in the instructions (there is a tinyurl to the config for the smart things dh). . Next, though - after you pair the motion detector with your hub, it spends 90 seconds or so in "walk mode" (as the directions call it). During this time, the red beacon lights up every time the sensor detects motion and every time motion starts/stops, it gives you feedback about what it is able to see. This is presumably to help you ensure that the device will detect motion in your desired installation spot. But i was confused about the device for a while because it gives so much info in this mode. . After the "walk mode" trial is complete, the device does seem to still work, but it changes its behavior in two significant ways that made me think it wasn't working: first, the led no longer lights up to give visual feedback about it detecting motion. This is actually fine, but i had learned to expect the "led-when-motion-is-detected" behavior during setup. . Next, when in normal operation mode, the device only tells you there is motion once within a 3 minute window. So it detects motion and if there is motion again two minutes later, it won't tell you (again) "motion detected. " like the last item, this is fine (the manual indicates this is a battery saving feature, which i can believe) but again, i had grown accustomed to the "you get 'motion detected' any time there is activity" (which is how the smartthings motion sensors work and how this device worked while it was still in "walk mode. "). . These are ok behaviors, really, but i was confused by the device behavior during setup (since it behaves differently than the smartthings motion sensor and it seems to behave differently from itself when comparing "during setup" to "during normal operations") so i think it's a bit confusing. Otherwise, it seems to work well. . The device has an internal, removable "look down" tab that you can pull off that will allow it to use the lower field of view when looking for motion.

J. Alexia, Tennessee

I was skeptical that this unit was going to be as good as other bosch motion detectors. The price seemed too low. . But, i was wrong. These are great motion detectors. I have used a number of zigbee motion detectors with smartthings hubs. I like these the best. They are easy to install and setup. Mounted, linked to the hub and working in under a minute. Bosch engineers and firmware developers seem to think of everything. It must be their many years of experience in this field. . Many years ago i was an alarm technician for a couple very large nationwide companies. These really are the best pir motion detectors i have ever used. They really are "pro-grade". Thanks bosch !

I. Nielsen, Halton says

I use this with smartthings gen 2 hub. The sensor came with easy device handler instructions (must copy and paste code). Works like a charm. Good deal, highly recommend.

H. Kristen, Essex

I got this device to add motion sensing to my smartthings system. Pairing, while straightforward, was a bit more complex than adding smartthings devices. Before pairing, you need to add a device handler to your smartthings hub. To do so, you just need to copy/paste some code from a github page to your smartthings api page (in a web browser). Afterwards, just insert the batteries and pair through the smartthings app. The process from opening the package to having an operational motion detector triggering lights took about 5 minutes. The batteries used are 4 aa batteries rather than the cr123a or cr2032 batteries that many other motion detectors use, making finding replacements easier. I found that the latency between walking in the field of view of the detector and triggering the lights is about a second or two. Exact measurements are difficult since there is no led indication of detected motion, which could be a good thing if you don't want constant blinking. I'll update with any pertinent observations about detection consistency and battery life.

P. Sarah, Saskatchewan says

Update from my initial review. After trying a couple if times it now works great. My initial review was out of frustration and impatience. Yes it needs an extra step to get it going but i learned something new today about smartthings api

V. Anonymous, Georgia

Working since i searched for connecting your bosch isw-zpr1-wp13 wireless pir motion sensor to smartthings and found a page with a link to custom code and instructions on how to create a device handler. Without that, this will not work in smartthings

N. Valdez, Montana says

I couldn't get this item to work with smart things and returned it. After some issues with other smarthings devices, i found out my hub was too close to my wifi router and which caused pairing and disconnect issues. I imagine that the same issue with this device, so it was more my error than the actual device. Lesson learned: don't put your smart things hub near your router as the zibbee protocol can operate on the same bands.

O. Jackson, Bolton

Went into smartthings ide and added in the code for the bosch motion detector and it activates other smartthing items via the hub. Very useful for the automation. Does motion and temp!

R. Marguerite, Rotherham says

Inexpensive. Works really great when working. However, after you go through the set up the first time it will stop detecting motion. You have to re-pair and it should the second time around. Never had issues after repairing the second time.

Q. Pamela, Gloucestershire says

Had to install a second device handler for smartthings to get the motion detector stable. Using the device handler from username "sandyis", as mentioned in sgr's review here, caused the motion to stop reporting after 2-3 hours. So if that device handler doesn't work for you, look for the device handler by user "tette" from mar 13th on the "bosch motion detector" thread on the smartthings community. I left the old "sandyis" device handler installed. I don't know if both are needed (doubtful), but it's working so i left it alone. I also had an issue with the cat going up and down the stairs triggering the device. After some research i found that most pet safe motion detectors have issues with pets moving vertically (stairs, jumping on furniture, etc). So i relocated the motion away from the stairs and its been functioning perfectly. For me the price is worth a little extra effort.

W. Anonymous, Kent

Perfect if you are mildly technically savvy. . As others have stated, it needs a special device handler to work properly. Once you have that ready (maybe 5 minutes worth of time if you need to set up an account), pairing them is effortless and as quick as any other z-wave or zigbee device. Explicit details can easily be found with a quick search. . Great detection, no false positives from my cats. Definitely worth the effort to save some $ versus other motion sensors.

K. Tracey, Picardie says

It did take a bit of digging online to figure out how to get this set up but once it's set up at work great

A. Palmer, Indiana

The vendor could have done better with the set up instructions. The setup needs creating a custom device handler (instructions are provided with each box) and on their website as well) which might not be for everyone. . It took around 5 minutes for my smartthings hub to detect this device after creating the custom device handler. Once added, the device gets into test mode which takes around 2 minutes. The unit is quite big (almost 4x the size of a st motion sensor) which is fine considering the price point. . The biggest con is that once motion is detected, the unit stays inactive for 3 minutes before it detects motion again. The st hub reports motion detected and motion stopped immediately - this might be inconvenient for some users looking for automation based on motion. . These use 4 aa batteries and as per the vendor they should go for few years before needing replacement so i really dont understand the need for a battery saving feature. If the 3 minute limit can be removed, it can serve as a decent motion detector and i will gladly bump up the rating to 5. . Update: adding another star - the delay in recording motion i experienced initially appears to be gone now. Detection is solid. Great motion detector to use where you do not need a constant motion feedback

M. Wells, Montana says

Yes, you must install a device handler but if it isn t worth a few minutes to figure that out, then you might consider a simpler hub. I put one in the hall leading to the garage and it works beautifully. This unit is very solid and well made. It is heavy in your hand and the quality is notable. It mounts flat on the wall so i added an online store vonhaus black universal wall mount speaker bracket this was perfect for my use as it gave the detector a downward tilt to better adjust coverage of a turn in a hall. That was under $8 us for a box of 2 mounts. After seeing one of these, i ll be adding more.

Top prograde zigbee wireless motion Review

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

J. Dorothy, Leicester says

Works, then doesn't work. Hasn't detected any motion for the last 4 days in an area i pass through twice a day. Re-pairing, works for a few days then stops detecting motion and can go days without seeing any motion. Has updated temperature about 10 times a day successfully, throughout all of this even when it won't detect motion. Battery life still shows 100% after 2 weeks. Some days it detects motion, some it doesn't. It's about 18ft from the hub and i have plenty of other zigbee devices and repeaters that work just fine. I have four more of these to try and will update my review, if any of them work better. For those who care its 6ft off the floor on a shelf, with a wide field of view, and does catch me in test mode and when it works 100% of the time.

H. Carmen, South Dakota

Bought this directly from the vendor's website. It worked great for a week. It no longer detects motion. All i get are temperature readings. This was a lot cheaper than the ecolink sensors. Now i know why

R. Rowe, Arizona says

Said it worked as z wave but it won't connect to my smartthings hub

Z. Janice, Warwickshire

These work well with smartthings and are pretty fast, but they are very large and have a pretty intense red flash when they register motion. I'm using in out of the way places, but if i tried to use in high visibility areas, family acceptance factor would be low. Also requires custom handler to be added to st to get to work.

A. Hadley, Calderdale says

Not a fan of this sensor. Picks up my 20 pound dog. This motion also takes three minutes for new motion to be detected.

. Miller, Bradford

Stopped responding after a week, can't rejoin smartthings hub even after removal and exclusion.

Y. Parker, Michigan says

My bad, i should have read more reviews. A) doesn't work natively with smartthings b) reports only every 3 minutes. Too expensive to send back. Not even going to open box i made a huge mistake.

. Dorine, Wolverhampton

They say it requires samsung smartthings hub. I wonder why because samsung support said it is not a supported device. I guess online store will put whatever it wants to sell a product. There is a workaround to get it to work but if it does link straight away you should not tell people it is supported by the samsung smartthings hub. If i can get it to work tonight i might give it one more star.

K. Teresa, Niedersachsen says

These are total garbage. I had one for only a few months before it completely quit. Ordered one after another until i got to the fourth one and not a single one was functioning from the start. There is a sequence of light blinks that happen when you insert the batteries and they were all completely unresponsive, even after the reset process. There is no doubt this company is selling off defective units to anyone that will take them. Save yourself the money and hours of frustration and time.

M. Rebecca, Stockton-on-Tees

Just horrible. I got it to pair with st without issues. But my problem is it won't stay paired and it does read/pick up any motions. Wish i was able to return it but i just installed months after purchasing it. Lesson learned.

L. Pete, Barking and Dagenham says

Attention buyers it wont work with smartthings. And corrupted my hub

T. Crawford, Dorset

I follow the instructions and paired with my smartthings hub. It works, but only for about 10 mins. After that, it completely stop working. . I brought two and both behave the same. . Looking into the smartthings dev community, seems like another use nick reporting the same thing

N. Rochelle, Saskatchewan says

Motion sensor stopped working after one month.

V. Pamela, Iowa

No so good. Very slow to respond. Had to reset several times. I wanted it to turn on a light and keep it on as long as there is motion. Couldn't get it to do it, so i'm sending it back.

F. Ophelia, Virginia says

It may be zigbee certified, but i couldn't get it to completely pair with a certified zigbee ha 1. 2 hub. Very nice unit though. Would be nicer if it would have worked. It will spend the rest of its days in a drawer. . That doesn't mean it won't work for you. It just didn't for me.

. Jarvis, Washington

Doesn't meet requirements for google home as stated in description. Pass time to return item and now struck eith product i can't use.

X. Fabian, Hartlepool says

This item does not work with smart things it will show on add new device but it will show thing and it wont work after that.

S. Moore, Derbyshire

If you bought this you can't install from the smartthings app. Follow the paper instructions that come with because it won't add it's self from the search window when you pair. You have to log into your hub online and copy and paste some handle code from there website.

. Megan, Hawaii says

I can get them detected in the smartthings system, but having issues getting them to work properly. I probably just haven't found the right handler yet. Hoping to get them up and running soon.

E. Colleen, Peterborough

These are not compatible with smarthings hub. They didn't pair correctly. Smarthings support confirmed they do not support these motion detectors. Do not buy these for smarthings hub integration.

P. Allen, Nebraska says

While i hate to give negative reviews, i feel one is warranted with this product. Here is a summary with more detailed information below:. . Pros:. Price. Uses standard aa batteries. . Cons. Size. Set-up/connecting to smartthings is difficult. Included instructions are poor. Unable to customize (refresh rate, sensitivity ). . Detailed summary:. . I had high hopes for this product as it was less expensive than the samsung motion sensor. Over the holidays this year, i upgrade my smartthings hub to v2 and have added multiple non-samsung products, including door sensors, several brands of lights, and cameras. While smartthings is not perfect, and several products were a little tricky to install and configure, this product by far is the worst. . I will not go through the specific steps necessary for connecting to the smartthings hub as others have outlined these, but here is a quick summary: you must register as a developer with samsung, log into the developer page, and find the device handler section (not easy to do with samsung changing their website). You must then find the code necessary to handle this device and copy and paste that into the developer website, then save. This must all be done prior to putting batteries in the device and trying to link with the smartthings hub. . Come on people, this is advertised as a pro-grade zigbee device compatible with the smartthings hub. Get your product ready for prime time so it can interface with the smartthings hub out of the box like other products on the market. . If that is not all, there are other severe limitations of the product:. . Size: product is 5x3x2 inches and weighs 9. 6 ounces vs the samsung smartthings at 2x2x0. 8 inches and 1. 6 ounces (see picture for difference). Smartthings sensor can be mounted or placed about anywhere, with this needs to be mounted due to curved bottom. May work good as a book end due to size ; ). . Instructions: in addition to the complex process prior to connecting to hub, the included instructions are very cryptic with separate written instructions and diagrams that are challenging to understand what you are looking at. . Customizability: while it may be possible, i have not found a way to customize the product including the sensitivity and refresh rates. This product will only detect motion once, then shows no motion regardless of what is happening for 3 minutes before the product refreshes and will show motion again. The samsung smartthings motion sensor will show real-time motion or no motion, which is much more helpful for automating lights and other functions. . Bottom line: spend the $10 or so (depending on sale price) more and get the samsung smartthings motion detector, which connects right out of the box and gives you better real-time info regarding motion.

It works poorly. Using the custom . Groovy device handler, it paired right up no problem, and for a few days worked great. I was pretty pleased with the simplicity of pairing and working, and i can work with the known weaknesses of it. . Then suddenly it stopped reporting temperature. So i pulled the batteries to reset it, and got it going again, and then it seems the temperature was working again, although less than accurate. . Then the next day the motion stopped reporting, and a couple of days later, still isn't! . . As the intention was that this would work as a thermostat, that isn't acceptable. . It's going back.

Detects motion only once every 15 minutes. Have to research around blogs to connect to samsung z-wave.

Good product. The only downfall is the 3 minute timeout after motion is detected. I have this set up with my st automation and because of the timeout it wreaks havoc with the automation. My rating would be higher if the timeout can be adjusted.

Have never had a problem with any smartthings sensors except these. Would not pair with the samsung smartthings hub at all. I bought two so maybe i just got a bad one. Nope. Second one did the exact same thing. The hub connects to the devices and just says "pending. " instructions are also very confusing. No words, just pictures.

Needs routinely paired with smartthings as it forgets. The calibration process can be a pain.

Now aside from the ridiculous setup you need to do in the st api in order for this to work, i actually wanted to use the sensor for my hallway light but couldnt because it has a stupid three minute wait time after each use. That essentially makes the sensor useless to me unless i keep the lights on after motion is detected for at least three minutes before it resets itself. This sensor is only good if you want to detect motion as a security measure while you're away from home, it is not recommended to be used with turning on lights due to the stupid 3 minute cooldown for the sensor.
