Review for clearstream eclipse amplified

Price was $53.89. So happy with this purchase and excited about finally cutting the cord from sattelite and cable. This product was extremely easy to install and tied right into the existing infrastructure in my home. I used a compass to ensure i was at the right azimuth for the broadcasting station and receive 32 digital channels over the air for free! i live 25 miles from the broadcast station in a housing development so i was worried about interference but everything worked great. The hd resolution is better than i've ever seen with cable and sattelite. I was very surprised! couldn't be happier with this antenna!

Foreword

I live in a lower level condo in the denver metro area. I recently cut the cable "cord" and had installed an amplified indoor antenna high on the wall over my television. I got most of the major network channels - except fox. Altogether, i got about 10 to 12 channels. Being the sports fan that i am, not having fox was an issue, so i decided to try this antenna as it was so highly rated. . I installed it in the same spot as the other antenna (using the amplifier), and ran the scan. Instead of 10 to 12 channels - i now have 30! including fox! with incredibly clear hd picture. . I love the fact that it is smaller than my other antenna, that it is reversible with a black side (it goes better with the metal decorative piece i have hung over it to disguise it a little), and that it comes with an adhesive strip to attach the antenna to the wall. Clearstream eclipse amplified tv antenna, 50+ mile range, multi-directional, grips to walls, 20db in-line signal amplifier, 15 ft. coaxial cable, 5 ft. usb cable and usb power adapter, black or white Review (ecl a)

After going through at least a half-dozen antennas in my sporadic attempts to cut the cable over last five years, i've finally done it. First, my area is dominated by vhf channels for network tv, and many of these very fine antennas (mohu *cough, *cough) are not clear enough about how difficult it can be to receive vhf over distance. I was trying to work from inside the house and almost gave up after guy at antennas direct explained how my typical florida stucco over concrete block can be difficult to deal with. As a last ditch last attempt i dragged the antenna outside and straddled the top of my pvc fence with it and bingo! all the channels i've never been able to tune in and hang onto came flooding in. Gave me goose bumps, the girls tingled, if you know what i mean. Could have just left it there, but local dirt bags are always a a threat to anything to anything nice - hence the fence - so i called my handymen, frick & frack, and asked for suggestions for fixing it down so could not be jerked around, they looked up and behold, old antenna that's been there since i bough the house years ago glimmered in the sunshine and for 40 bucks they climbed the roof and attached it with handy-dandy screws provided. And oh, frabjous joy! -E. Rowe

PROS
  • I previously had a flat (sheet style) amplified antenna from a different manufacturer that i placed on the inside of a double paned window. It worked ok, but i could not get a signal from a broadcast antenna 60ish miles away. This one did the trick. I was not expecting this tv station but i got it. My main goal for purchasing this antenna was to get the flat antenna taped to my window removed. I installed the clearstream 2v just outside this window on my deck rail under my house's eve. I am up on a mountain but have mature trees in the direction of the broadcast antenna. I did not even have to adjust it after first installation. It is fairly easy to get assembled and mounted. The figure "8" looking part and the horizontal stick antenna are made of plastic but the rest of the system is made from metal that seems will hold up in a windstorm. Time will tell how this unit works and stays put, but for now i am satisfied. Hopefully when all my trees leaf out over the next month i will will get this one station. Sorry for rambling.
  • Have 2 tvs: 1-hd. 1-4k, diff sides of house. Tried many indoor antennas. Mohu leaf, several light flat semi-square, amplified & passive. Best amplified - 1byone. Worst amplified-mohu leaf. 15 years ago mohu leaf best available. Not so today. 1byone amplified best until now. Best amplified due to easy on/off switch. For my location, passive best. Rare day 20 channels worked well. Usually 15 & not the same 15. Lately no channel 2s at all. Soon as clear stream installed, channel scan done, 28 channels perfect, all 4 channel 2s! location critical. Live semi rural 25miles west of detroit. Regardless the indoor antenna or weather/season i get 8 channels. Know sweet spots for both tvs. All window spots fair. Don't know why. Find your sweet spot. Critical! use wall 'gum' 2 top corners to 'tack' n move. Place always high as possible. Begin far as cable allows. Always run channel scan every time move antenna. Count how many channels good. Move antenna next to spot before scan, check, count channels. Repeat until you can go no further opposite extreme from where you began. Pick your sweet spot. Between my 2 tvs, i get 7 additional channels. Tv 1- west end, tv 2 - north middle side of house. Both outside walls. Recomend this antenna.
CONS
  • We live about 40 miles south of nashville, bought this hoping to be able to ditch the dish or at least get 3 of the 4 network channels. . Description is pretty clear 60 miles, however once you receive it the box says up to 50+ miles (what ever that is suppose to mean). . I google the antennapoint web site on the box and it said no transmitters within 60 miles, when in fact there is a network transmitter about 35 miles away. . Assembled the antenna, bought a coaxial cable hooked it up and did a channel scan, it came back with 17 channels. First was the network channel which comes in very clear. The others are a plethora of hsn, religious, spanish, and a second network channel with unwatchable reception. . We will keep it for use when storms knock out the dish
  • This antenna is, eh. It's ok, but it doesn't work any better than my $30. 00 rca. Its malleability makes it easy to fit into tight or weird places were you might find better reception. It does pull in the local abc station which didn't happen before, but that might be the new t. V. . Find out exactly were the transmission towers are in relation to you; aim it carefully.
  • Works slightly better than rabbit ears. Works about the same as a turk indoor powered antenna. Not sure it was worth the extra cost. I use it in an urban area with lots of tall trees and tall buildings nearby that block my direct line of sight to some broadcast towers (2 miles to 30 miles away), and hoped this antenna would help pick up some of the channels that are inconsistent to receive signals from, but it doesn't really work any better than any other antenna i've tried. It was moderately easy to assemble and is relatively compact. The included 20 inch mast is a little short for some applications. It included a 30 foot coax cable.

I am about 60 miles north of pittsburgh. Not in a valley, but not on a hill either, and surrounded by tall pine trees. I was ready to ditch direct tv because we never watched it and was tired of paying for it. I was going to miss my local news though, so i did lots of research on antennas. At first i thought it was hopeless for us due to living so far from the city. I talked to several people in my area who tried to use an antenna with no luck. I returned several before i tried this clearstream 4v. This time, however, i did pair my antenna with an amplifier. Now i'm not sure if that actually made a difference, but i was finally picking up some channels so i didn't want to mess with it anymore! i am getting 16 digital channels, which i know isn't much compared to what most people are able to pick up, but given the fact that i live in the middle of no where (we don't even have cell phone service at home), i am happy. I picked up cbs and pbs no problem, but had to do some adjusting to finally get fox and nbc. I had given up hope on getting fox and nbc at first, but then my husband got a longer pole and mounted the antenna on that. He also took some pieces off our direct tv satellite, that was now junk, to be able to tilt and turn this antenna a little easier. Once he raised it another couple feet and tilted it back some, fox came in great! this is mounted on our ranch home roof, and the additional pole is probably about 4ft high. If at first you don't get much - keep adjusting! like i said - i had given up hope on fox and nbc, but an afternoon of modifications and lots of turning and scanning for channels and we are picking them up clearly now! i am using an amplifier and am not splitting the cable at all. I tried to use direct tvs previously run cables, but they were split in the basement where they then went to 3 different tvs. So instead i did run my own wiring, but it wasn't difficult since direct tv already had the proper holes in all the right places. We also used the antenna direct app to help us know where to point the antenna, but honestly i don't think it helped much. For our final adjustment we ditched it and pointed towards the direction we knew the city was, and picked up all the networks we wanted.

This reveiw if for the following product: . But this version has been a delight. It was easy to set up. It received about 10 more channels than our other antenna. We live in a suburban area about 45+ miles from the nearest stations. Fortunately most of them are in the same direction but a few a not. It was those that we were having trouble getting with the other antenna we tried but not this one. It picked them up easily. . My only complaint with this product is the sticky aspect. I thought at first that it was great. All i had to do was position on the wall and we were done. But the issue came when we decided a few days later to try the antenna with another tv in another room. We were trying to see if it would work in other parts of the house as well-and it did-but the sticky was not "easy to remove" and did not leave without consequence. It pulled the paint right off our wall (. And then we took it back to try to put it back over the offended section, it would not stick. . So, i repaired the ripped paint section, returned this product and received another. We purchased a command-type hook and put the replaced antenna (without the sticky part put on this time) on the hook. So we are very happy with the channel-grabbing ability. Not so happy that i had to repair my wall. Not sure if this happens a good deal with the sticky part but it happened with us so just mentioning it as a precaution. And online store, of course, returned/replaced the old one very quickly and efficiently. No issues there. . Of note, the previous version of this antenna which for some reason was also linked to this review was really not suitable for our situation for an indoor antenna. Too bulky. So sent back."

Roku Streaming Stick Streaming Wireless (Tuner) FAQ.

Love the updated rokus updated from my old 1's and 2; s the new ones work flawlessly and support profiles in netflix, (something the old ones lacked) the power and volume buttons are a nice touch for a basic set up, but not so much for running through an amp. -Notice from N. Diana, Worcestershire

I have used roku for years, including several different models. The best new thing of note is roku has recently released the roku channel, which has hundreds of free movies. It is ad supported. Roku has just about every app you can imagine (youtube/pandora/netflix/online store/hulu/hbo now) and thousands of more apps in many different categories. This roku streaming stick plus does have more advanced wifi antenna than the regular streaming stick. Here are some points to consider when deciding on which model of roku to buy:. . 1)if you need to connect by wifi in a room far away from your wifi router, i would recommend the roku streaming stick plus or roku ultra. . 2)if you have a 4k tv, i would recommend the roku ultra or roku streaming stick plus. . 3)to search for content using your voice, go with either the streaming stick, streaming stick plus or ultra. All 3 of these models also have a remote that can control the power and volume on a tv. . 4)if you want a wired ethernet connection, go with the roku ultra. . 5)if you want to connect to an old tv with rca/composite audio/video jacks, you will need the express plus. . 6)the express models have a remote where it has to be pointed at the device, unlike the other roku models. . 7)if you are only going to buy one roku device, i would recommend the roku ultra. The ultra has many unique features that the other roku models don't such as:. -gaming buttons to play video games. -remote finder to find a lost remote control. -ethernet port for a wired connection. -micro sd card slot. -usb port. -night listening mode (this lowers the volume of loud, explosive sounds and raises the volume of soft sounds like whispers. Very useful! ). -headphone jack on the remote for listening without disturbing others. . For those who have not used a roku before, here are some tips that might be helpful:. . 1)there is no monthly fee to use a roku. There are many free channels/apps with free movies, music and tv programs and some people use roku only for the free channels and do not pay any fees. . 2)some of the most popular free channels/apps are: youtube, pandora radio, the roku channel, pluto tv, tubi tv, crackle, cbs news, nbc news, abc, pbs, pbs kids and many more. You can also find a free live stream of fox news on youtube by searching "fox news live" on youtube. . 3)some of the most popular paid channels/apps are netflix, hulu, online store video, hbo now, vudu, sling tv, spectrum tv and direct tv now. . 4)if you are looking for a bundle of channels of live tv to replace cable tv, check out sling tv, spectrum tv, direct tv now, hulu, pluto tv and playstation vue. All of these are paid services except for pluto tv, which is free. . 5)to find and add new channels on roku, just press the home button on the remote control, scroll down and select "streaming channels". There you will find thousands of channels/apps in many different categories and many of them are free. . My one gripe about roku (and other streaming devices) is the lack of a fully functional web browser and i hope roku will include web browsing on models in the near future. I have been surfing the web on the big screen for years and find it ridiculous when an internet connected tv device does not allow you to surf the internet and forces one to switch to yet another internet connected device to do so. I am aware of the screen mirroring function from smartphone/pc/tablet but find that a poor excuse to not include a web browser. People who type a lot of messages and/or emails like myself much prefer typing on a wireless keyboard rather than a phone/tablet/remote control.

Roku-streaming-stick-streaming-wireless-(tuner) set picture

- O. CarolI bought the roku streaming stick+ from a local retailer the day before it was released from online store. Overall, i'm very impressed. I bought this as a supplement / mostly replacement for my appletv 4g. My biggest concern going in was that it might have a slow interface (like my bluray player and android tv that claim to be smart but are annoyingly slow). That turned out not to be the case. The roku's interface seems to be on par (response wise) with my appletv. The installation process was polished, although not as good as it could have been. I recall that many of my logins to the various apps were automatic with the appletv (like asking me if i wanted to use slingtv as my tv provider on the various channel apps without forcing me to enter my slingtv credentials repeatedly). On the roku, it was a tedious process of entering my username and password for each and every one of the apps. My login for slingtv took several attempts due to an "authentication error", but it seems to be working now. Maybe that was the issue with having to enter the username/password combination for each of the apps that are authenticated by having an acceptable tv provider? i'm not sure if the fault lies with roku or slingtv. When i launched hulu for the first time, my tv picture started flashing. After restarting the roku, that issue hasn't repeated. I'm using plex to stream most of my video collection, although the drm in purchases i made from itunes prevents me from using plex for those shows. I would have been happy enough with the appletv were it not for having to restart it several times a month and having a clumsy (in my opinion) interface with the remote. I don't like having a trackpad on my remote. I prefer the precise nature of the buttons on the roku remote. Although, i do like recharging my appletv remote with a usb charger as opposed to having replacement batteries. Other than the few minor roku startup issues, i have no complaints. If the roku continues to be as solid as it has been so far, i suspect the appletv will be relegated to watching streaming videos purchased from itunes (which i will stop purchasing now) and watching the simpsons on the fxnow app (which is more restricted on the roku with slingtv as my tv provider for some reason).

Nice upgrade from the previous roku streaming stick. I recommend it to all my friends.

I rarely take time to write a review, but i must for this product since it saves me 12 bucks a month (at least, not counting the dvr function) from lease fees for a box from cox, and that makes me happy. Cox should offer an app on the roku stick like twc does so you can watch in hd without a box, but i digress. I won't lie, it was difficult to set this up, but mainly because cox was a pain to work with, and finally a technician was dispatched and he set up the cable card code properly for me. Splitting up my cable signal proved problematic at first, but he resolved that as well. Now that my 2006 dinosaur of a computer has added memory and a new video card, i use it as my media center computer with the hdhomerun, and i have an xbox as an extender in another room of the house. Now i can watch tv and record programs at will without having to pay extra for a dvr. Essentially, my computer works like a tivo, but for hundreds of dollars less. The only disadvantage is that media center is not offered on windows products past 8. 1, and that was an additional purchase for a product key for windows media center. Windows 10 does not offer it at all, not even as an extra. So, that makes it a little harder to set up the homerun for easy use. If one is facile with programming, there are ways to get the job done, but i'm just happy i got what i got, and kept what i kept (money in my purse).

Silicondust Hdhomerun Extend.free Broadcast Hdtv 2-tuner (hdtc 2us m) FAQ.

This is my second "tv tuner", i have a ceton 4 channel tuner as well. This review is based on one big assumption, its a big one, your cable card is setup correctly by your cable company. With that said. . While this was not my first rodeo, installation (see above caveat) was crazy simple. Execution was even easier. After i plugged it in, put in the cable card, run the hd software, setup with windows media center (which auto found the tuner) up and running in less than 5 minutes. . As i stated i have a 4 channel tuner by ceton which is connect by usb on my pc. Its a couple years old, therefore it is not connected via network. This created a restriction of not being able to watch live channels, well, not easily watching live tv. The hd home run prime solves this problem. On android, you can download the hd view app, for ipad you can download instatv pro ($11. 99 by the way kinda pricey) which works amazing. You can not airplay from what i have read, but i have an ipad mini connected to a monitor it does mirror. . Based on support and ease, i would buy this vs the ceton. -Notice from L. The gadget works fine - the real challenge is finding a matching cablecard. Comcast declined to ship cablecards to me by mail or bring them to my home on a service visit. (at least in my area; yours may be different. ) instead comcast invited me on an expedition to its local office. . If your comcast local office is anything like mine, the customer service counter is staffed by older ladies who are mostly clueless about technology, electronics, and computers. Their perch is patronized by grumpy customers who resent paying the high prices comcast imposes. The goal of the counter-ladies is to dispense with the grumpy customers swiftly and reach their lunch on time. Behind the counter they keep stacks of set-top boxes, modems, remote controls, cables, etc. , and they award these jewels to customers as merited. Over in some forgotten drawer of a dust-covered desk there's a pile of cablecards too. . The cablecards in the pile all look alike: aluminum case (shiny! ), credit-card-sized but thicker, same weight as a pack of gum, indecipherable gibberish written on the back. The cablecards arrived at the pile mainly because nobody wanted them. Maybe a grumpy customer brought them in. Maybe they were found skating around the back of a service van. Maybe they were inherited from that office the next town over when it closed. The ladies learned in training that cablecards could plug-into comcast s fancier set-top boxes to tune extra channels. They also heard rumors that cablecards were needed for the newest tivo appliances. They remembered reading a nasty memo explaining how comcast was legally mandated to hand over cablecards to paying customers without further charge. Yet requests for cablecards were few and far-between; for the most part the cablecards simply sit neglected in their drawer. . Enter our hero: a man who just purchased an hdhomerun and is motivated to make it work before his wife discovers its cost. He asks the counter-lady for "an m-card, " quite properly. She knows an m-card is one sort of cablecard, and she knows the cablecards are kept in that drawer in that desk over there in the corner, so she smiles politely and steps away. She pulls open the drawer, leafs through the pile, and notices how much alike all the cablecards appear. They re all so shiny (! ) and that gibberish printed on the back of each is too small to read anyway. She silently sings a verse of "eenie-meenie-miney-moe, " selects a fine specimen, and delivers it to the hapless customer at the counter. What could go wrong? . . If our hero is to succeed in his noble quest, it is here and now he must assert himself. Let s review the key obstacles. 1. Many of the cablecards in the pile are programmed for use in comcast set-top boxes. Those same cards will not work in hdhomeruns or other third-party appliances. It s one or the other. 2. The counter-lady has never heard of an hdhomerun (and doesn t care to learn). 3. The counter-lady cannot distinguish an m-card from other sorts of cablecards that are not m-cards. In fact, the distinction never occurred to her. She s bewildered by its significance to our hero. 4. The counter-lady cannot differentiate a functional cablecard from a faulty cablecard. 5. A substantial fraction of cablecards in the pile are broken/fried/defective. (recall the pile constitutes an accumulation of cablecards nobody wanted. ). 6. Lunch time draws near. . Before he retires to his castle, our hero must examine the cablecard for himself. He is honor-bound to reject any cablecard which . 1. Bears a "motorola" logo (on the front) and a serial number (on the back) which begins with any letter other than "m". 2. Bears a "cisco" logo (on the front) and a serial number (on the back) which begins with any letter other than "p". 3. Seems to have endured a game of badminton. 4. Seems to have been rode hard and put away wet. 5. Smells like dog poop. . So endeth the lesson.

- F. DorineI have this running with windows media center (wmc) 7 and a cable card from charter communications accessing wmc via an xbox 360 as an extender. After several months running like this, i'm more than pleased. Within 9 months, i'll have saved beyond what it would cost me to rent their hd dvr (since it isn't free) even factor paying for the cable card. The tech helping with the install also mentioned that the guide in wmc was faster than on their dvr service. . Things to note for charter:. . - you won't get to use just this and their cable card. . - charter will hook up a digital tuner via usb cable to the hdhomerunprime. . - charter will require you to have it professionally installed as there are some things the tech must do. . - the tech will need to see info off the hdhomerun device in order to complete the install. The info can be accessed via the hdhomerun software for the device. . - video on demand services will not work with the prime unit. . Things to note for wmc7 and the hdhomerun prime:. . - when setting up the wmc to use the prime device, you cannot be on a headless system. This means that the wmc machine must have a monitor and speakers attached in order to run and pass the cable advisor test that will show up in the wmc addons gallery. You pc must also meet some basic minimum requirements spec wise and it's video card (or on-board video must support hdcp). I was accessing my wmc machine via vnc remote desktop and the prime device would also fail to completely initialize within wmc. Finally i discovered that i needed a monitor and speakers attached. In fact you must run the cable advisor test from the local wmc machine and not via remote desktop even if you have a monitor and speakers attached. . - if you have a network intensive household (multiple streaming devices, gaming, etc), you might want to consider putting in gigabit switches if your house is wired. It made a significant difference when i moved from 10/100 switches to all gigabit. While the xbox 360 is only 100 megabit, the rest of my machines are all gigabit. With 2 ota homerun devices and the prime device device hooked into my wmc, i can support recording 5 hd signals at once or watch 1 hd and record 4 at once. This takes up a healthy chunk of bandwidth. It was nice having the extra cushion of gigabit as i regularly have 3-4 recordings taking place at once during primetime hours. . - with wmc 7, it'll support 2 hdhomerun dual devices for over-the-air hd broadcasts along with one hd homerun prime device without the need to buy the hack to increase the number of tuners wmc will support. The over-the-air channels integrate into the guide as x. 1, x. 2, etc right in line with the regular numbered channels perfectly. Nothing gets messed up. . - have plenty of hard disk space. I'd seriously suggest getting a 2tb or larger drive and make sure you have a good processor and healthy amount of ram to support multiple hd recordings and playback at once.

A year or two ago i built up a mythtv setup for our main room, and then a satellite (client) for another room. This isn't meant to be a review on mythtv, but let me say mythtv is an awesome dvr setup especially if you are addicted to automatic commercial skipping which we had with our replaytv units . For the first six months, it ran with a hauppauge tuner. Then comcast decided all its channels would be encrypted - and so another solution needed to be found. . Enter the silicondust hdhomerun prime unit. . Getting the unit to work right was no easy task - not because of mythtv (which supports this out of the box) or obtaining a cablecard from comcast, but getting comcast to authorize all the channels we paid for took major hoops and levels of technical support and hours on the phone. . Once it was done, it operated flawlessly. . It gives us access to all the channels we pay for and gives us full hd video as well. . Commercial skip works pretty well with only occasional glitches when the image goes to complete black, but that is a mythtv feature not a feature of this unit. . To do a differential diagnosis of our problems required installing a windows 7 media center setup and accessing the unit via media center, which helped prove our unit wasn't authorized for stations. Comcast was clueless about mythtv. . It works so well, there were times we needed to record more than 3 channels simultaneously - and thus a second unit with its cable card was brought into the house. So yes, we own two of these. . Of course, this could all turn to crap if comcast decides to flip the 'copy freely' bit on its broadcast programs . Something i'd bet will happen sometime. But for now, we love this unit! . . We've had ours for over 3. 5 years now, both units still going strong.

Tablo DUAL OTA DVR Cord Cutters - 64 GB WiFi - For use HDTV Antennas

Love my tablo. I was a long time tivo user (8 years). My tivo hd started failing (random reboots daily). Instead of putting more money into an old machine i decided to look at new dvrs. I checked out the new tivos (same old thing) then found tablo. First thing it's not a set top box. You need a compatible device to stream it on. Luckily i have a tcl roku tv so that obstacle was easy. Next while the tablo dual comes with on board storage i do recommend getting an external hard drive. There is an extensive thread on tablos forum listing compatible drives. Initial setup is easy. Picture quality is great. One thing to note is your bank may decline the guide subscription charge since it's international. I made one quick call to my bank and they allowed the charge to go through. All in all i'm very pleased with my tablo dvr.

Tablo is a network-connected dvr that streams live and recorded over-the-air (ota) hdtv from your digital antenna to any screen, anytime, anywhere using the tablo app. Tablo dual can stream or record up to two ota tv channels simultaneously and includes 40 hours of onboard hd recording storage. A whole-home dvr for cord cutters, tablo is the only ota dvr that allows you to use either ethernet or dual-band wi-fi to connect your hdtv antenna to your home network so you can place the dvr and antenna in the best location for ota tv signal reception. Tablo apps are available free for ios/android mobile phones & tablets, computers, smart tvs, streaming media and gaming devices, including roku, fire tv, android tv, apple tv, and xbox as well as support for chromecast. For technical assistance contact 1-844-822-5688.

Tablo Dual Ota Dvr Cord Cutters - 64 Gb Wifi - Use Hdtv Antennas (spvr2 02 en) FAQ.

I had to send the first one back because the networking was dead (both wired and wireless). Obviously some qa issues they need to work out. . Decided to give it one more try and the second one is working great out of the box. I attached a spare 1tb hard disk i had, which gives plenty of storage for 1080i recordings. To allow easy recordings, you'll have to subscribe to their tv listings. . I'm getting all the local channels. It doesn't pick up the channels from other nearby cities that i can get with my tv, but that's not a problem for me. We watch thru ios devices and roku. The tablo is a little slow in responding (takes a few seconds for streaming to start), but not as bad as some set-top boxes i've had in the past. It's a great way to add additional tvs to the home without having to fork over more $ to cable companies. . I would like some more control over recordings, such as being able to control how many episodes to keep, or how long to extend certain sports events in case the game goes into overtime. Hopefully, they'll address this in the future. Despite the weaknesses, i haven't seen a better alternative. -Notice from M. Yvette, Texas

In my market (slc), i get about 45 channels/subchannels clearly with my little indoor antenna. About 30 of these are worth watching. This device has worked out quite well in my home. I use it almost exclusively with roku devices. . A star off because i have to reboot it about once a month, and it will cease recording or responding until i do so. Also, the "free without the guide service" sorta works, but really, you are buying into the tablo ecosystem, if you want it to work like the guide in your cable/satellite box. . The thing you have to come to with cord cutting, is the realization that i am going to make tv less of a priority in my life. Between off air, and whatever streaming services, i am just not going to be able to get everything that i may have watched before. And you know what? that is okay. My tablo records a lot of things on subscription. And my 1tb drive holds a month of my recordings. I have soooo many interesting things to watch. And frankly? if i ran out of tv to watch. I might just do something more productive, like read a book, play the piano, exercise, clean the house, etc. So tablo will do me fine.

- S. RoseI have had our tablo dual for a couple weeks now and cut the cord 2 years ago. This is what i was missing! the one thing i needed tablo fits perfectly, and ota dvr. Tired of watching commercials or missing our favorite programs, works great and can watch on almost any device!

Bye bye uverse and $108 monthly bill. Thank you tablo. I have an apple tv 4k and the app is awesome. Super fast and responsive. Attached a samsung ssd for extra space. Well thought out, features like ff and rr work great plus scrubbing and other apple tv features. If only directvnow or sling had this nice of interface. Wish list for improvements: faster live tv channel changing (5 sec or so) and ability to find shows/movies like in the iphone/ipad apps.

The F.A.Q. for clearstream eclipse amplified tv antenna, 50+ mile range, multi-directional, grips to walls, 20db in-line signal amplifier, 15 ft. coaxial cable, 5 ft. usb cable and usb power adapter, black or white

We were moving but had a bit of a break between our old home and new one. In the meantime i didn't want to be completely without tv (and really, can you blame us? ), but i did not want to pay the outrageous charge of "basic" cable through the company we'd had service through (their name begins with "c" and ends with "harter"). I researched a few antennas online and this one seemed to give us what we were looking for at an extremely reasonable price. When it arrived the instructions were easy to follow and in no time we were enjoying 20+ local channels, some even in hd thanks to the tv we decided to leave behind! highly recommend this product for anyone wanting to watch tv without being charged a ridiculous monthly fee through the cable company.

A number of questions have been asked here.

I had a 30 year old rca mast in my attic that i really only relied on for really bad weather when the satellite was out (very rare, but when you're in a storm, you want to be able to get news). When cbs got into a pissing match with dish, i decided that it was time to actually look at an upgrade and see what a "digital ready" antenna could bring to the table. . I started with an indoor amplified hdtv antenna. One of the rectangular sheets that's supposed to be so effective/ garbage. I literally connected a metal coathanger to a piece of coax and it performed better. . So, i checked elevations, ran the maps on antennaweb, did my research on products, etc. And finally settled on this antenna. . When i first connected it up and aimed it based on my signal maps, i was really disappointed. It was significantly better than the indoor antenna or coat hanger, but my old mast in the attic kicked it's ass. I received 27 stations on the mast and i could only pull in about 13 with the clearstream. Top reception on the mast was an 82% signal and the best on the clearstream was 68%. . I loosened everything up and just focused on the one station that i had a perfect unobstructed los to. It's 38 miles away, but it's a strong transmitter and nothing between me and the tower top (it's about 1250 higher than my antenna, curvature blocks the bottom 650ft giving me under a degree of elevation over that distance). Admittedly, i've never dealt with an antenna designed like this before, so i was defaulting to keeping everything straight on the horizontal plane, keeping it perpendicular to the target tower, etc. Nope. This guy did not like that. Turns out that the best signal was at about a 35? ! ? degree inclination. Ironically, this also improved reception from the stations coming from behind. . The antenna also didn't like being aimed directly at the tower. It liked being just either side of straight-on. . Now that i've got it aimed, i'm pulling in 37 stations (about a dozen actual towers) and the ones directly behind and in front of the antenna are rock solid (80%+ vs mid 60% signals). The stations from the side have suffered, but i'm almost in a straight line between two major markets and i have increased my overall channel count while losing those outliers. I don't get the physics behind this thing, but i can't argue with the results.

This antenna worked great for me. I live 20 minutes south of austin, tx. I installed the antenna outside, on the north side of my house. I ran the cable from outside into the attic and down to the tv in the bedroom. It's a good size and blends in well enough with the exterior of the house. Right now the antenna is pulling in 26 free over the air channels. About 5 of those are in spanish. I posted some pics of the different channels its pulling in on my new sharp lc-43le653u.

D. Annette, Saarland says

This is a great antenna for picking up your ota signals. I live about 40 miles as the crow flies from mt wilson in la. I pick up all the local channels and then some. I never knew about some of the subchannels that were being broadcast. I bought this antenna to cut my satellite subscription. The installation was easy. However i needed a slight longer mast arm. I originally installed it with the supplied arm but i couldn't get 2 or 3 of my local channels. The arm is not a standard 3/4" or 1" conduit pipe either, so i couldn't just extend it with a coupler. I ended up making my own arm and raising the antenna up about 12" higher. This cleared the top of my roof and now all the channels come in. I did have to get a pre-amp to install as well as 2 of my channels were too weak to tune in. Once the pre-amp was installed, i was all set and canceled my satellite.

Q. Guest, Montana

No antenna picks up all signals from all directions. Each is designed for a very specific purpose and if you expect it to do something else you may be disappointed. Be aware that this, or a similar antenna, may not be enough to pick up all the stations you want. . This antenna, and i believe this applies to all flat hdtv antennas, is not omnidirectional. Online reviews often list them as omnidirectional but the manufacturers are much more careful in their descriptions. The antenna should be placed on an outside wall facing the tv towers you wish to pick up. The direction does not need to be exact, but turning the antenna 90 degrees will impact reception. In my case it reduced the number of channels i could pick up. . This style antenna is also designed for uhf reception. Most, but not all, hdtv stations are uhf. This antenna will pick up some vhf signals depending on their frequency and direction. . When setting up my antenna, all the major networks but one were broadcast on uhf from the east of my home. The other was broadcast on vhf from the south. No orientation of this antenna would pick up every station. I contacted antennas direct customer service and they responded quickly and helped figure out a solution. I needed to add a vhf antenna to my setup, and together with this antenna, they work perfectly. Customer service was great! . . The web site tvfool. Com can be used to show the location, frequency (ufh or vhf), and direction of channels at your address. Focus on the chart that lists the stations in descending order of signal strength to best understand what you will need from an antenna.

O. Eleanor, South Gloucestershire says

I don't live in the best area to receive antenna reception. Lots of trees around, a mountain, and towers are 45 miles away. The towers are all in the same direction. I have uhf and vhf signals. It took me a couple times to find the best mounting position. I tried the highest point first but there was a giant oak tree in the way and i only picked up 8 channels, 4 that were watchable. I moved it to a lower position but with a clearer window towards the towers and picked up 28 channels, 21 which are clear. The other ones (cbs and fox affiliates) are almost always unwatchable. Anyway, i mounted a clearstream 4max for a coworker who lives a few blocks away. He has no trees and a clear shot (same mountain) towards the towers. He's only getting 16 channels clearly. We both use a winegard lna-200 preamp. His coax run is 50' longer but i highly doubt that matters. We both don't have any splitters. I told him to get the 4max because it is the new model, assuming it was better. Looking closer at the details, i found the 4v has more gain. Its seems to be built better in my opinion too. I like the metal cross braces and the metal reflectors. The moral of the story is buy the 4v if you can. It will probably be unavailable eventually.

A. Sandra, Hartlepool

The antenna works great, but the included coax cable resulted in poor reception on nbc in my area. I was looking into buying a pre-amp booster, but after a bit of research it appeared my issue was extra noise (which a booster would have band-aided). . I replaced the thin coax cable that was included, with a thick low noise 25' cable. Now i get full bars on nbc and even pick up a few additional stations.

G. Cageen, Bretagne says

After we decided to cut the cord with our cable company i set out and did my research. I decided on this antenna the clearstream 4v. I live about 40 miles from the towers. I installed mine outside and ran 25 feet of high quality coax to my existing house wiring. I have 3 tv's and 5 active outlets wired. I at first received 16 channels all around 95 to 100% strength. One channel and its two sub channels had a weak signal. They were the opposite direction of my other towers. I purchased the antennas direct clearstream juice vhf/uhf preamplifier system here at online store and it fixed the issue and brought in 5 more channels to all my tv's all now at 95 to 100% and the weak channel was now running around 65 to 75% which is the normal range and this was on a windy day. The wind did seem to affect the weaker signal but still it remained in the normal range and never moved outside the normal range. We are extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend it. It does have to be put together and you have to make sure you do it right and aim it properly. 3 tv's one downstairs two upstairs all have beautiful pictures. Goodbye cable

S. Laura, Isle of Wight

I bought this to replace a channelmaster flatenna, which cost $10 shipped from channelmaster (now $19) and $10 + shipping ordered here. The flatenna does as good of a job as the more expensive flat rectangular antennas that i tried, but it isn't very good on low vhf (channels 2 through 6), which a few stations still use. When a station in my area that dual-broadcasts on uhf 47 and vhf 4 began having issues with its uhf band, i bought this antenna. It picks up the vhf band of that station, and it also picks up every other station in my area that other indoor antennas get. It should be noted that the transmitter of the low-vhf station is only a few miles away; other transmitters vary between 15 and 35 miles away. This does not pick up stations that are 60 miles away (nor is it advertised to), even with the amplifier. . The one downside is the amplifier. It did not improve reception on any stations, and it distorted a few due to over-amplification. The problem with the amplifier is that the antenna is useless if the amplifier is connected but not plugged into a power source (usb, outlet, etc. ). Because of this, if you need to switch from a station that needs the amplifier to one that is distorted when it's plugged in, you have to swap the entire amplifier out, meaning unscrewing and screwing in cables. I therefore recommend that you buy just the antenna itself, and if you need an amplifier for harder-to-reach stations, buy one with a toggle switch that turns it on and off but still allows the antenna to work if the amplifier is toggled off. . Overall, this is an excellent antenna that does work for me on a low vhf station with a nearby transmitter, and it works on stations on the uhf band with transmitters up to 35 miles away. I don't recommend the amplifier at this time.

L. Amanda, St. Helens says

I purchased the 2v 60-mile range to be on the safe side and couldn't be more satisfied. The 35-mile range may have worked fine, but now see no further need for an amplifier. Assembly was easy with good instructions and pictures. For initial tryout i clamped the mounting bracket to the top of a a-frame 5ft ladder (on my second floor) and pointed it straight east with chicago e-ne and merrillville, in e-se of me about 25-miles away. After going through tv's automatic channel setup, i found i was getting fantastic reception on about 60 channels. My tv is an early generation hd ready version, and i was receiving hd signals on both the major cbs, nbc, abc, etc stations, along with their affiliates, and also the me-too, u-too, etc stations and pbs stations. I couldn't tell the difference between this antenna reception versus the comcast xfinity cable. The 60 channels is misleading as they include the many channels i am not interested in, such as the home shopping networks, religious stations, spanish stations (i am not bilingual). But i do receive the ones i most watch. Now i need to get an affordable internet provider that has adequate speed for occasional streaming. Comcast xfinity may have a lot of features that appeal to some customers, such as the increasing tv packages, but are now pushing their mobile packages for smartphones and expanded wifi, home security, home automation, etc. And when you go to their website, they only show you upgrading from your existing account. So at least this 2v antenna solves the first hurdle. I'll next relocate it to the attic to get it higher up and not to be seen. Mounting and coaxial tye-in to existing whole house wiring would then be beneficial. After notified that my review was posted i decided to read a lot of the 1-star ratings, and thus would like to add the following comments:. First and foremost is i would not recommend installing this unit outdoors no matter what climate you live in. And i noticed some customers had pictures showing mounted in front of their dish antenna. (whether dish is operational or not) i consider this to be ill advised. As for booster/amplifier, it is more components that could go bad, which is why i avoided getting one. Being in city really close to transmission towers may sound great but you may be getting blocked by buildings in front of you. Lastly, buy quality coaxial cable, keep short as only needed, and make sure connector to cable is installed properly and connector to antenna and tv is a solid connection. I'll update my review once i relocate to attic, maybe even a photo or two. Will also let you know how hooking up my dvr goes. My only regret that i forgot to mention is that i'll miss having xfinity's up/down station scrolling with across hourly programs that give short description of that episode along with showing future re-airing dates and search function. But i can live with that if it means cutting out my current tv bill.

M. Janice, Barking and Dagenham

This creature works very well if installed properly (clear line of sight, directed towards towers). I was able to repurpose my home's satellite cabling, and i attached the antenna to the mounting post of the defunct satellite dish. I have not needed amplifiers to get a good signal to 2 televisions. In my market, i get over 80 channels (most not worth watching). Some days, the antenna finds channels over 100 mi away. . The assembly and installation instructions need improvement. The included instructions are printed in too small a font, with tiny illustrations that don't show the necessary detail. I wasn't aware that the mounting post can only be used in a couple limited ways, because the instructions did not show photos of the installed post, and provided limited instructions or guidance on installing it. Calling the company for advice on how to use the post (or how to find a suitable replacement) wasn't very helpful. The un-usefulness of the post for my mounting situation nearly led to me returning the antenna.

P. Wells, Kentucky says

This antenna works very well. I live some distance from the tv towers, so most internal antennas don't work well. I'm also in an area where most of the digital channels are uhf, but one of the networks is vhf. When the antenna arrived, i hooked it up indoors. It pulled most of the stations i wanted, but the signal was weak. . Having it mounted on the roof and pointed in the right direction cleared everything right up. I paid an installer to put it on my roof, and he was very familiar with antenna systems. He warned me that the signal might not be strong enough to split to 2 tv's due to the length of the run - he was wrong. I'm running it unamplified, and have no trouble. . I pulled up antennaweb. Com before i mounted it and saw where most of the towers were located in my city. I did not do any 'tweaking' with the direction, i just pointed it in the general direction that antennaweb. Com said my local towers were. . I'm docking one star for somewhat poor/confusing assembly instructions and a weak joint design where the pole meets the roof bracket. . The antenna comes with a mouting pole and bracket, but no cable.

This antenna is the real deal. I've tried both the mohu leaf 35/50, and 65. Neither could touch what this picks up. I went from 60 channels to 79, and signal strength went from 50-75% to 80-100% according to the hdhomerun config gui. Wish i had spent the little extra for this months ago to avoid the frustration of trying to place the mohu perfectly to pick up the main 4 networks without one of them cutting out too much. I slapped this on the window and the first place i put it picked up nearly everything, only requiring a couple inch shift to one side to make sure to pick up abc more clearly.

B. Williams, Hillingdon says

I installed this antenna in the attic of my house in central ct. I pick up five channels, including one that is 90 degrees opposed to where the antenna is pointing, and has a relatively low erp compared to the stations a similar distance away. I get very few dropouts or complete signal losses. The assembly directions could have been a little more detailed, so look at the picture of the assembled product so you know how it's supposed to look as you assemble it. I have yet to secure it to the ceiling joists, and it's just pinned under a 2x4 to keep it upright, but it works fine.

U. Benton, Idaho says

I live in south denton tx above lake lewisville and the broadcast towers are 39 to 42 miles away in south dallas in the town of cedar hill. I put this antenna on my roof and generally pointed it in the direction of the towers. I remembered later that my iphone has a compass on it. I put it on the old pole for the dish network dish that i wasn't using. It works great. I ran the automatic search for channels and it returned 88. I think about 60 of them arrive on my tv perfectly. But all of the major channels look perfect. I get abc, fox, cbs, nbc, pbs and local weather channel that constantly displays the radar.

J. Barbara, Barnsley

Initial install at 30 ft height on my chimney and hookup was yesterday. April 8th 2017. Tested and programmed small 28" led smart tv. Able to receive 56 channels. All channels very strong reception and clear tv picture. All broadcast towers are 50 to 60 miles northeast of my home. Eventual goal is to cut the cable from comcast and hook up to a tivo. Good product so far. One critical design suggestion for your engineers. Make a stronger hold down retainer base and a thicker, more rigid upright support tube to hold antennae. It is very windy where i live and i foresee in the near future that i am going to have to install a second more rigid support tube to the existing support tube, as reinforcement. I will re-review this product in 6 months. So far well worth the purchase price. Ron j. Ypsilanti twp (near ann arbor) michigan april 11th 2017 update; fyi for prospective purchasers of this antenna; if you need to run more than 50 ft of coaxil cable to enter your dwelling, it is highly recommended that you add an , in line, powered signal amplifier to your coaxil cable. My intial set up for programming pulled in 56 channels with a 50 ft run of cable but upon final installation i had to run an addition 25 ft of coaxil cable to enter the house and hook up to existing internal house cable distribution network. When programing the tv's i lost 25 channels. I then added the signal amp and was able to regain the lost channels. Once again great antenna super picture clarity and reception. This is the best long distance hd tv antenna on the market. Well worth the $150. 00 purchase price.

T. Lindsey, Gateshead says

Installed outdoors on roof edge peak due to location of the house in a remote rural area in yancey county surrounded my mountains in western nc. Could only get public tv channels and 1 commercial channel (sometimes) with an indoor "rabbit ear/loop" amplified antenna. Now get same public tv channels plus 4 clear commercial channels. Still tweaking the aim to see if i can pull in an additional station from asheville nc, but there's a mountain in the way. Update : after less than a month, it seems the antenna has stopped working. All the extra channels that initially showed up are now low signal strength and not viewable. The antenna is still locked in position. All the connections are tight, but no signal boost over what i used to get from a desk top indoor antenna. After contacting antennas direct customer service, i discovered the reason for the signal loss was a failure of the broadcast tower, and not my antenna. Turns out a few days after i installed the antenna, an ice storm caused the collapse of the transmission tower for 4 of the stations. They are still offline and won't have service restored until after easter. Great support from antennas direct and very responsive, courteous service.

I. Rebecca, New Mexico

I was using a mohu leaf 30 with an amplifier previously. I had some issues and decided to give the clearstream eclipse a try after reading stellar reviews. I placed the clearstream (without amplifier) in the exact location the mohu leaf was. I rescanned to see what channels i got and every channel came in with a stronger signal even without the amplifier! now i can get all the channels without an amplifier and without stuttering issues. . I do have one complaint that the box i received was not sealed. This was definitely either used or returned. My rating is based on the actual product performance.

. Carmen, Delaware says

not a lot to it. Wish my tv was located closer to the window (partner will not allow an antenna to be too far from the tv. I get it. Its tacky. ). With that said even with the snow and wind it was pretty decent picture for what we got it for. ( morning news, we have hulu and hbo go, netflix, online store prime) not sure ill get another for the bedroom considering its not one the side of the building facing the towers in midtown manhattan. Hopefully the video uploads so u can see how it looks on a 2016 4k tv.

F. Anonymous, New Brunswick

I installed this outdoor antenna with amazing results! assembly of the antenna was easy, but of course it is dependent on your handiness. Before with inside antennas of every possible type and configuration, i could detect only 20 channels and probably watch 4 (at most) without constant major pixelation. Watching sports became frustrating, and was the last straw to motivate me to get the best outdoor antenna i could find. I have heavy tree cover, and reception is better in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. I live about 35 miles from the tv transmitters too. After installation on the roof pointed to the right direction, i got 60 channels and all of the channels came in clearly! there are still tree tops in the way, but i can now watch football, baseball, and hockey from the local stations (when they are broadcast), with no freezes or pixelation at all! . . Some notes:. 1. It was important to use the "antennas direct transmitter locator" website to get the direction of the transmitters, and then line it up exactly with the digital compass on iphone (bluetooth must be on to get the highest accuracy). . 2. I also learned a lot about antennas and installation. Watching some youtube videos, it was recommended to use conductive grease for all of the outdoor coax cable connections, to prevent moisture and provide longer life at the connections. This tube of conductive grease was less than $5, so it was well worth applying it to every connection outside. . 3. The cheap cable splitters significantly reduce antenna signal strength and just don't work for antennas! when i placed the antenna, i went through a door to directly connect the cable to the tv to get 60 channels. After confirming direction and that the antenna worked as advertised, i connected to the inside of the house using the existing coax cables and splitters that were already installed. I lost significant antenna signal from even just one two-way splitter. Wow, this was a revelation to me, but then realized that these cheap cable splitters work better for cable tv than for antennas! i went from 60 channels down to 30, and the two stations i really wanted disappeared again. So if this antenna is going to multiple televisions or the coax cable to the tv is longer than 50 feet (mine was 125 feet), it is highly recommended to get the channel master amplified signal splitter (2-, 4-, or 8-way amplified splitter). I researched this too, and found that channel master had high ratings and good customer service. . 4. I got the antenna with both the uhf and vhf antenna. The vhf antenna is the bar across the top, and for $50 less you can just get the uhf antenna. I'm not sure which stations get picked up by the vhf antenna (however i do have some just audio radio stations on tv now) but if the model number has the "v" in it, it probably has the vhf antenna (just look for the dark bar across the top of the figure "8" antennas). If the "v" is missing from the model number, it probably does not have the vhf antenna. That's why you may see some of these antennas that are $50 less expensive than others. This took some research to find this answer too, but i've documented it here to make it easier for others. . It's clear viewing now on every channel! i'm really happy with this antenna, and after the initial investment, i'll save at least $100+ per month from cable tv. I can't say you'll get as good of results as i did, but it has greatly improved my viewing pleasure!

H. Powell, District of Columbia says

We cut the cord. My wife occasionally like certain things like metv. She wanted to be able to watch that, so i got this so she could get it off the local station that broadcasts it. . It works well, the only complaint might be the coax cable. We put it white side out, and then you see the black coax cable running to it. . Will probably at some point put in a white cable just to obscure it. . Good antenna.

. Donna, Alabama

Purchased this to replace an older model eclipse antenna that didn't come with an amplifier. Unfortunately the side of the house where it's located is away from the local antenna towers, so there is a lot of interference through the house. The amplifier makes a huge difference in signal quality! had read to try the antenna without the amp first, but it didn't do a great job in my situation. . Since online store doesn't sell the amplifier separately, i decided to just purchase another with the amplifier. I'll use my old eclipse antenna on a television on the other side of the house if i decide to turn in the cable box on that television. If you are on the fence whether to purchase this with or without the amplifier, recommend spending a little more to get the amplifier. It's better to have it and not need it, then try to find it afterwards.

Y. Sarah, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern says

This antenna is fantastic for us! we live in a midtown highrise and never used to be able to use an antenna to get any local stations. In fact, we hadn't even tried for about 20 years. Now, as part of our cable-cutting plan, we hooked up with this antenna - and it is fantastic for us. We are getting a really clear signal. It is really easy to set up and even looks kind of nice. . We are keeping our broadband connection and use slingtv (on our apple tv device) for our "cable" channels. The combination of this antenna and the sling ($25 a month) provides us with even more programming than we used to have with our cable provider - and we are saving about $150 a month.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

J. Alberta, Quebec says

All advertising. I got better reception with a very inexpensive antennae. Return not allowed.

U. Wells, Bradford

This 3-star rating is a weighted average of 2 ratings, 1 for the antenna alone, and 1 for its amplifier. The antenna alone deserves at least 4 stars compared to rabbit ears; . It pulled in more stations; i did not attempt to find distances or directions. The amplifier doesnt deserve even 1 star - it reduced the number of stations overall. I had read this can occur, but i assumed the stations added would be more than the number deleted . This is all the more glaring since you would expect the amplifier to 'match' its companion amplifier; . The amplifier acts as an attenuator, or resistor, if you will

R. Newell, Worcestershire says

Amplified, or no, i am not overly impressed with the performance o of this antenna. Although toured as omni-directional, i found positioning had to be tweaked to get any kind of reception. . I do appreciate the flat, low profile design. I just wonder if there design required concessions on performance.

W. Harrison, Norfolk

I bought three different antennas for three different tvs in my home. This one was the least expensive of the 3 i bought so i used it for the upstairs bedroom (which is the only one by a window). It often shows interference on the picture and i have to move it for one of the channels. This was surprising since it was by a window on the top level of my house. Most of the channels come in clear and it was easy to install and use.

N. Cindy, Somerset says

I wanted to like this antenna. I liked the design and the option of using black or white. However a feature that is touted in the product description is the omnidirectional antenna that eliminates the need to rotate it. Yet, i still had to rotate it to get another block of channels. Lastly, the glue for the antenna peeled the paint off my wall. Just great.

T. Sandra, Mississippi

Doesn't work for me, your mileage might vary. I'm in an urban core less than 4 miles from the transmitters that i care about, and i assumed this would be fine. . I went onto the tv fool website and it turns out that, while they're close and extremely powerful, they're apparently 2 edge signals. This means that there are two independent hills between me and the towers causing lots of wave refraction and scattering. There's also a giant fm tower less than 1/2 mile from me that i have clear line-of-sight to, which causes interference in the low numbered channels (vhf). This antenna presumably picks up all the signals fine, it just can't help out the signal processor that's trying to figure out what's happening (hdhomerun). . I had to switch to a directional rooftop antenna to reduce the impact of the 2 edge signals, and add an fm filter to the line to get the vhf channels that i care about. Crystal clear reception on all channels after that.

. Morgan, Nova Scotia says

This antenna did not work for me. It needed to be located in the open room to pick up any stations. While not an "ugly" antenna, it doesn't fit our decorum and i didn't think my wife would appreciate taping it to a window. When it did pick up a station, it would have to be re-positioned to pick up other stations. We are less than 10 miles from towers. It may work for some people who don't mind it located in the middle of a room. I installed an attic antenna that picked up 26 stations without an issue.

X. Clara, North Carolina

Unfortunately, this antenna did not work and pull in as many channels as my other flat antenna. The local channels came in very clear, but i don't care for today's shows on those channels or their news. I prefer metv and the antenna channels, for example, along with some pbs channels, which the latter would not come in at all. I did not realize that you had to attach some sticky tape that is not good to put on glass windows in an apartment that you are renting. That is the only location that would bring in channels. I am trying to return it now.

O. Candy, Northamptonshire says

This item did not work in my area, could only get one station, this may be due to buildings blocking my reception. I am not sure. But ultimately i had to return it. I had high hopes that i would get a few local channels if i placed this antenna on a south facing window since the broadcast website all the channels within a 25 mile radius where south of me. I am disappointed. . Then when you return the product, your email account gets inundated with stupid questions from the company, posing as real customer questions.

P. Dorine, Illinois

Worked almost as well as my online store basics amplified flat antenna for most stations. Worse on vhf stations (abc). . I live in the san francisco bay area - hayward to be exact, in a ground floor home. Lots of houses, and air traffic to distort/impeded the signal. Signal strength was measured using my tivo bolt, over a dozen of my most watched channels, while trying a number of antenna locations. . I have returned this unit, and will be purchasing the clearstream 4v.

. Juliana, Indiana says

We tried this in several locations and it does't get any of the local channels, nbc, cbs, abc. Had better luck with my old rabbit ears than this one. The adhesive does not stick to anything. It falls off the wall within minutes. I would suggest for the manufacturer to add a hole so you can hang it on a screw or a command hook. I think it's just too heavy.

C. Josephine, Brighton and Hove

We were only able to pick up pbs and it didn t come in clearly. I don t think it was the antenna as much as it was our location in a mountainous region. It simply didn t work for us.

K. Miller, Darlington says

Great for uhf, but useless for vhf! the description should make this clear. By placing this antenna in a 1st floor window, it pulls in the 4 local channel broadcasting on uhf from a mountain 30+ mile away. Impressive! however, my local cbs and abc broadcast on vhf from a much closer mountain and this will not receive them at all. After looking into it, i see it's optimized for uhf. Fair enough, but that should be explicitly stated, as there are still many hdtv station on vhf. If all the stations you want a uhf, this is a great antenna, but check first. This ones going back.

Y. Kimberly, Richmond upon Thames

Product was used. Seal broken on box, packaging for cables was loose in box, someone had written in pen on the instruction manual. Pretty disappointed to buy a new item and have something used arrive. Returning it and hoping my next order winds up being new.

Q. Nellie, Alberta says

I've tried 3 -4 of these hdtv antennas and none of them work well for me where i live - it's just too congested an area, with too many buildings, trees, and large hills interfering to get decent reception. I could never get more than 1 - 2 major network channels. A better solution for me was to buy the online store fire stick and use hulu live tv - i get tons of channels that way, with a great picture.

L. Sarah, Lambeth

I bought this for a house that is easily within the 35 mile range of antennas. It brought in zero channels, not even any fuzzy ones. I don't know if this was the fault of the antenna or if there was another problem going on. All i can say is that i was surprised and disappointed. I did not expect zero performance.

I. Patricia, Texas says

Unfortunately this product did not do what i needed it to. Mainly, be able to move to different locations so that i could find the best position to pull in local channels. I stuck this to the wall next to my tv and only picked up a few channels. I attempted to move it to another spot and it pulled all the paint off my wall! now i'm stuck with an antenna that does not work and need to repaint my wall. I guess i'm sticking with cable a little bit longer. Ug.

V. Julia, York

Pro's i got 13 more channels than my old antenna. Though 3 where spanish channels no use for me because i don't speak spanish. . Con's the reason i bought this antenna is two channels i really wana watch on my old antenna (cheap walmart brand of the mohu leaf) wouldn't come in really that well even though i am close to the towers. I was expecting this antenna to do way better according to online store reviews and other web sites also. But that was false in fact this antenna had even worse reception than the cheap walmart brand one on these two channels. . So in closing. If you want a antenna with strong long range ability this is one for you. If you need antenna with good short range ability 5miles or less this isn't the antenna for you. I hope this helps.

B. Joanna, Kansas says

Really disappointed with this unit. Everything i read indicated it would be a much improved experience. In fact its no better than the less expensive units i was previously using. Overpriced. Pain to put together. Here is the fact . . . Depending on all of the variables in your neigborhood and around your home . . . This may be a great antenna. But you can probably get the same results and spend a lot less money.

M. Carrie, Minnesota

After reading all the reviews on this antenna, i was excited to give it a try. I live rural and have been using digital antennas for years now. I've tried dozens and have several different brands hooked up at this time on several televisions in our home. (we have 5 tv's with digital antennas on them at present) i know how to use them and how to get the most out of the programming. I have been getting 8 channels with my present system, but bought this trying to "boost it" to include some local channels that are no more than 20 miles away. This boasts a 50 mile range and i could not pick up even the 8 channels i get with my system now ( and definitely did not pick up those 2 local channels i was trying to pick up. This system only picked up 4 channels- not good, so i went back to my old system and am boxing this back up to send back to online store for refund. I rarely send anything back. I keep most things, even if i don't love them-but this, well, it's just not worth it for me.

S. Meredith, Manchester says

You need to go online and determine if you can receive adequate signals from the towers. I have mountains that surround my home and i didn't check online before buying this, which was highly recommended by a co-worker. Basically, it doesn't work in all areas, i returned it. I got three channels (shopping, religious and foreign stations).

E. Anonymous, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

This antenna got plenty of good reviews, but for those of us who live in rural areas with lots of trees, it's really hard to get tuned in. In my case, it'd have to position it in the middle of my yard to get a good signal. Once you start adding cable, the signal quality really suffers. Just adding an extra 25' of coax drops the performance considerably. I may try using a signal booster, but it seems like you can just keep dumping money into a system that will never really be reliable. I can pick up my local public broadcasting channels quite well, but the major local networks are hard to get.

A. Smith, Champagne-Ardenne says

This product gets two stars only because the amplifier does improve the signal. The one feature that i liked about it was its light weight and the adhesive that would allow you to restick it multiple times until you get the right position. This sticks to any smooth surface approximately once and then only for about 15 minutes. Subsequent attempts to hang it on windows failed. I am using the amplifier on another digital antenna i have and it has improved my signal. I wouldn't purchase this again or recommend it.

. Jennifer, Newham

Purchased this for a friend's cabin about 30 miles from broadcast sources. I had not choice but to mount in an attic. It does pull in some main stations, but the reception comes and goes, so it's not always consistent in the stations we get. The cabin is between two cities, one about 30 miles away, the other about 50 miles away. Even though it's touted as bi-directional, i can get channels only from the nearer source. I realize reception might be better if mounted outside; however that was not an option here, and i purchased because this was supposed to be powerful enough to work from an attic. So results are a bit disappointing. But it does work, and is fairly easy to mount. A good, sturdy unit, too.

Z. Patton, Havering says

I tested this antenna against the generic rectangular window units and the hd frequency cable cutter antenna. The much cheaper rectangular antennas worked better than this clearstream under the exact same conditions.

H. Judith, Gateshead

The clearstream 4v antenna is very disappointing. It did not perform as well as the clearstream 2v. The 4v is bigger and more costly than the 2v. Do not waste the extra money.

G. Meyer, Centre says

I have two antennas - this one and one i bought for $24 here. The only difference is this one has a booster. Without the booster, the cheaper antenna with the larger surface area performs better than this one for a tower that is about 10 miles away. With the booster, it works very well, picking up a few extra stations. (note - the booster should not be used by people with short antenna cables - read how boosters work instead of assuming what they actually do. ). . So from my perspective, you can probably get a solid antenna with the same results for half the price as they appear the same in many ways. My comparison is side by side. . On the bright side of buying from antennas direct, they do put out a lot of good information about setup, pointing it in directions, etc. And you may be better off and get better prices buying directly instead of here (as i found out. ) the product also seems to be marginally better quality than the super cheap antennas here so that is also a plus. But i did find that, overall, it's still a good sized premium. Mileage may vary.
