Review for harmony rechargeable remote color

Price was 33. This was pretty easy to set up though you would think i would have written down all the model numbers last time i did this with a 550. I finally just made great big pictures of the model numbers with my telephone. And yes, most assuredly these will no longer be here next time. . I thought it was terribly funny when i connected the ps3 and the wii u, that it qualified what it was able to do: with ps3, it said only turn it on and off, and with wii u, it said uncontrollable bluetooth device. Yes, i have had that experience with the wii u myself. . At first, i visualized what i had to do to complete the different activities but then gave up and sat in front of the television while answering the questions. It was not that difficult, and it was made easier by having had one of these devices in the past, a harmony 550. They are controlling the same devices. The 550 has been going off randomly and getting seriously annoying. Every once in a while it turns off the tv. Usually i just open the battery case and twirl them or take one out and it works again. . This will be perfect as soon as i figure out how to make a short burst of fast forward for commercials.

Prologue

We finally put and end to the salad bowl of remotes. Controls our tv, sound bar, dvr, sony 2 zone receiver, blu-ray, appletv, and i know i'm missing one more. So easy to program and everyone in the family can figure it out. Occasional snag if you're not pointing it at the components, but easily you can select the individual device and turn it on. Just buy it. Also, i like this one compared to the next model up because it has actual number buttons. So if that's important to you don't worry about this not being powerful enough. Logitech 915-000162 harmony 700 rechargeable remote with color screen black discontinued by manufacturer Review (915 000162)

I bought this for my husband for christmas but gave it to him early. It has made our life so much easier. I have everything wired through the receiver so managing boxes has been a challenge. The tv needs the tv on, the receiver on and the dvd on - all set to the correct setting. This remote handles it all with the push of one button. Our tv is 19 years old and it was in the database. Setup was easy, download the software and configure. I needed to reconfigure a few things but that was easy also. Also, we recently switched to local cable and i love that i can now set up and go to 23 favorite tv channels with the push of one button (because i don't remember the channel numbers). I love, love, love this remote. The only thing i need to work on is if devices get out of sync with being turned off or on, i need to manually power them all off or on and go from there. This happens if the controller doesn't have a clear signal to the devices. Some things i need to work out, but i still love it and it is so worth the money. -D. Ruby

PROS
  • It simplifies my home theater system, although there is a little bit of a learning curve to it. I also have my computer connected to my tv and this lets me control a program called kodi that i use to watch my movies on. I also ordered the usb flirc ir senser for my computer. I still have to turn the computer on and start the program with my mouse but once i get it up i have full control of my movies. One small con about this remote is sometimes my tv and receiver shuts it self off after a certain time when its not in use and the remote wont allow me to to turn it back on because it thinks its still on, you just have to hit the off button first and then hit the activity that you want to watch. I also wish that all of the activities where on the lcd screen because it would be easier to see and easier to navigate but you do end up getting use to it.
  • This review is in two parts. One is for those unfamiliar with the logitech harmony system. The other is a review of the harmony 700 and a comparison to the 300. . If you don't know the harmony system:. . It is the only way to go. The harmony system is unlike all other universal remotes. Instead of programming the remote by using the remote buttons, you connect the remote to a computer and use either the harmony website or software to program the remote. Not only is this dramatically easier, the biggest value comes when the remote needs to be replaced. Instead of starting from scratch, you can buy a new harmony remote and just copy the old programming over. I recently upgraded from the harmony 300 to the 700 and most of the programming took 30 seconds just to copy over my old programming. Since the 700 had more features i then went about making the changes i wanted to make. Let's start with how you program any harmony remote. Once you connect it to a computer and create an account on the myharmony. Com website, the remote is automatically recognized. The website then asks you what equipment you want to control. You enter the model number for each device (tv, stereo, dvr, etc). The website then looks up all of the remote codes for those devices and assigns those codes to the remote buttons. So far this is not drastically different than other universal remotes except that by entering the model number of a device you don't have to search through a bunch of sony codes to find the one that works for your sony device. . Now comes the big difference in programming: on your computer, when you select one of the devices from your living room that you have programmed into the device you will see a large color graphic image of the remote on the screen. When you hover the mouse over a button on the screen it will tell you what that button has been programmed to do for that device. So for example if you select your tivo dvr, it will show you which button goes to tv central and which one is for thumbs up. Each button that is not yet programmed, appears with a blue outline so you immediately know what buttons you have available to program. Off to the side of the screen you will see a list of commands that were available for your device with the ones already programmed dimmed and the ones not yet assigned in bold. You just drag any command to any button to program it. If you want to add a command that is not in the list, just get a factory remote and press the button to learn a command. You press the correct button on the original remote and the harmony learns that command. This is useful for mixing devices. For example, i want to control the tv power and my tivo without having to switch devices. To do this i just learned the tv power button onto all of the devices on the remote (it would be easier if harmony allowed you to drag a button from one device and drop it on another but they don't allow that currently). There is a feature called activities. This allows you to combine a number of actions. For example the "watch tv" activity can turn on your tv, dvr, stereo, and tune to the correct inputs. The reason i don't like activities is they always assume that every device is off and i never turn off my dvr or stereo so when i hit watch tv it turns my tv on and turns my dvr off. This is not correctable so this feature is useless to me. Of course the learn command feature fixes this with only a minor inconvenience. . Once you have remote programmed the way you want, you just press the sync command on your computer and all the codes are updated in the remote. When you lose or break a remote, or just want to upgrade, you connect the new remote to your account and it asks you if this is a replacement. If it is, the old codes are copied to the new remote. When you buy a new device, like a new tv, you just take the old tv off, enter the model number for the new one, customize any buttons you want, and then hit sync. Takes only a couple of minutes to get everything perfect and there is no pressing tons of buttons on a remote to get it done. Everything is done with a drag and drop mouse interface. . I give the harmony system 5 stars. While it can be improved, it is light years beyond any other system. . Here is my review of the harmony 700 and comparison to the 300. . I had the 300 for years and we loved it. The only downside to it was there were not enough buttons to configure every command for my dvr. When i wore one of my 300's out (we have two) i bought two 700s to replace them. Wow the 700 is fantastic. It differs from the 300 in a few key ways:. . 1. Command window. It is has a color screen about one inch on each side. The screen has two physical buttons next to the screen on the left and two next to the screen on the right. This allows you to program any four commands to these buttons. Not only can you program them you can call them anything you want. I learned the tv power command for all of my devices and was able to call it tv power. If four extra commands aren't enough for each device, no problem. Just program four more into a second screen. There are three physical navigation buttons below the screen. One selects devices. The other two page right and left through an unlimited number of screens. I have one device with 8 screens (32 extra commands). You can organize, select, and delete commands as you wish. This alone makes the 700 worth the money. 2. The remote has an accelerometer in it. When you pick up the remote the screen turns on and when you set it does the screen turns off to save battery power. 3. Rechargeable batteries. You never have to buy batteries again. It comes with two aa rechargeable. When the battery runs down, just plug it into the included charger. The charge lasts a long time (i have never run the batteries down since i plug the remote in once a week). 4. Standardized usb jack. Since the included charger is a standard android cell phone charger, you can actually plug the remote into any android charger. When you connect the remote to the computer, if you already have a standard connection for an android cell phone or nexus tablet, you can use the same one for your remote. With the 300 i was forced to keep an old micro usb cable around for just the remote. . Other than that the 700 and the 300 are light, well built, and relatively intuitive to use. You will quickly get to where you can operate the remote by feel without reading the buttons or even looking at the remote. There are colored keys that you can use for special features like netflix. We switch between tivo and netflix on our smart tv with one click each direction. . The only downsides are:. Activity buttons are a waste to me. Activity buttons are not useful to me because of how they operate. You cannot name the remotes on myharmony. Com. If you have two 700s (as i do) they are called 700(1) and 700(2) so i have to keep track of which is which. Logitech is working on adding this feature in the future and of course it will be backward compatible to existing remotes. . The only reason to use a remote other than harmony is if you don't own a computer. The 300 is excellent and the 700 is phenomenal.
CONS
  • I have had this for almost a year now and it does pretty good, not great, but it beats using 3 remotes all the time. The battery lasts 3 weeks to a month between charges, which is good, but it does not give no warning when it is going dead. I guess that is on the higher end models. The price on this for what it can do was good that is why i got it. I read the reviews which mentioned losing its programming for a number of people. Maybe this one does too but the help button easily corrects all that. Maybe it is more of where the remote is pointed at thing than anything else? . . Update 10-5-2013. The remote is dead, it lasted 18 months, pretty sad. I am reducing the star rating to 3 stars, tempted to make it 2 stars. I am going to look at other brands for a replacement.
  • I received this remote on 12/22/2016. Have been using for about 6 weeks. I noticed that while charging the batteries, the bottom of the remote becomes very hot. The battery icon never showed fully charged no matter how long i charge it for. A support post by logitech said to charge it for a minimum of 3 hours. It now gives me an error message that says batteries can not be charged. I have removed the batteries several times with no successful result. It also gives me error messages that say replace batteries. I have contacted the manufacturer and am waiting for instructions. I will update when they respond.
  • For the most part this device works great. I was able to setup the tv with a cable box and receiver, listening to my ipod (which is connected to my receiver), the radio on my receiver, the cd player with the receiver, the blu ray player with the tv and receiver, etc. , etc. You get the picture, i have a lot of combinations and it accomodated everyone of them. It is neat because it changes hdmi ports on the receiver and tv or any other connections on the receiver to make the desired combination work. . Now the bad. For some reason i am not able to get it to turn the cable box on or off without multiple tries (the help key will get you there, but it is annoying). I find that i still use the cable remote because there are times i don't know how to use this remote to accomplish a task with comcast on demand or the dvr (it may be there and i just don't know how to find it). I would have probably given it 5 stars except for the issues with the cable box. I still recommend the remote, but don't expect it to be perfect.

harmony rechargeable remote color Logitech 915-000162 Harmony 700 Rechargeable Remote with Color Screen (Black) [Discontinued by Manufacturer] (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

Fantastic device, the only thing i'm regretting is why i didn't get it years ago! . The sync process through the logitech software you must download it and install it on you pc is really simple and intuitive, do not worry about that, just bring some information with you in order to input when the software ask you to do so, device brand and model. In my case 5 devices, a sony home theater (used as cd/dvd player), sony blu ray region/code free, onky a/v, micca media player, roku 3 and a tlc tv it took me less than half an hour to configure all. The cool thing about this remote is that with a single button you switch on several devices, depending on what you want to do, for ex in my case i program several activities, "watch a movie" is going on the bluray/tv/onkyo a/v, another one, "listen to music" the home theater (that it work as cd/dvdplayer) and the onkyo a/v. "watch roku" the roku/onkyo a/v and the tv, and so on. I was surprise that the function you can control is not limited to the volume, channel and on/off , but you actually can control all the function than you can control from the original one of the device involved. I will recommend this to a friend yes. :)

Click to see NoticeLogitech 915 000162 Rechargeable Discontinued Manufacturer (Remote Control)"Other than online store getting it delivered late and it not being the hassle free packaging i ordered (plastic clamshell needed the jaws of life) i was surprised how easy it was to set up and how well it works. . It only took about 10 minutes from logging on to having it working with all 4 components because i had to go back and forth from room to room getting model numbers. Once set up, i had to make a couple of changes, like disable ez-sync on the tv (it controls the receiver turning it on and off with the tv) so that i could have the remote control the dvr. . It works great. Response is quicker than the old universal remote we had and the backlit buttons is a real treat. . I planned a few hours relaxing and setting it up, like the last one, but was surprised how quick and easy it was, and how easy it is to make changes on line. . I've seen comments about having to point it very directly at the components, but i've tested and can point it at least 90 degrees away and it still works fine and it's about 10' distance. . I'm glad i decided not to spend more on the one, as this one does everything very well!"

(0) Question: Does it work with sonus sound bar

(1) Question: Will it work with twc digital converter

(2) Question: Can any one please tell me what "power toggle" means and what is it for on this remote? please.

- . AnnetteUsing to hide video audio equipment in cabinet. Super easy install and operation. Any fears if this now resolving the issue can be put to bed with this item! will be buying another for master bed.

I'm used to using the snap a/v units from work (a/v integration company), but this was cheaper than our cost on those units. I extended this unit from my media rack to my 3 tv's after purchasing 2 additional i. R. Eyes, and extended them using bafx's cat-5 extender kit. This added about $42 to the cost of a $27 unit, but i could have saved half of the extra cost by cutting the i. R. Eyes' cables to extend over cat-5 with dolphin connectors. I prefer the cleaner look. I only have a blu-ray player and denon reciever on this repeater, both working as expected. Only notable thing is to know that if the (presumably intentionally very bright) blue light is constantly illuminated on the main unit it means there is an input fault, in my case one of the wire pairs on my cat-5 extension cable were shorting. I had to replace an rj-45 tip at one tv to regain functionality. . Included is a photo of the main unit (only 2 of my inputs installed, 1 output) and one of the ir repeaters on a blu-ray player over the ir reciever.

IR Repeater System - Hidden IR Control System Home Theater

This unit is identical to another being sold for much much more. This is not a cheap knock-off - it is identical. Works perfectly. Good manual. Great price. . Note that there are some ir devices that this unit will not work with . Some use special (uncommon/non-standard) ir frequencies for their remote control. And of course, this does noting if your remote control is rf or bt. But for the vast majority of typical devices, it works great.

The compact all-in-one ir system makes sure that all of your a/v components receive the commands sent from your existing ir remote controls, even without line-of-sight access. A small receiver can be placed near your television or mounted somewhere around your equipment cabinet, and this system will deliver your commands to up to 12 individual home theater components. It's easy - this home theater accessory is so easy to use; it sets up in minutes and requires no drilling or rewiring. Your friends will think you had a pro install it!

Ir Repeater System - Hidden Ir Control System Home Theater (400020) FAQ.

First, your remote needs fresh batteries to set this up! plug the base unit power supply in and connect the ir receiver (long thin piece). Aim the remote at the sensor from about a foot and press buttons. Your remote should make the (blue) led in the sensor light up, if not then the unit will never work for you. Second, take some time and experiment with the angles that the receiver can see your remote's ir signal. That will help you with positioning the receiver at the most effective angle and in the best location. Third, i found i needed to play with the position of the ir emitters at the dvd player. I ended up positioning the emitters where they consistently triggered the dvd player, and then used a small piece of black electrician's tape to hold them there. In my case with a panasonic dvd player, that meant having them on top of the unit, hanging over a bit onto the ir receiver in the dvd player. So it did take a little time (30 minutes or so) to get good, consistent results. But, once i got everything ironed out, it has worked very well. -Notice from N. Angela, North East Lincolnshire

Worked very well, outside (under patio cover) from across the pool. Like the blue activity led to show you the ir has been received. Would purchase again!

I have three of these harmony ultimate one remotes, one in my living room, one in my bedroom, and one in my gym. They all work great most of the time. I love the convenience of pressing one button and everything turning on and adjusting to the correct inputs, however my biggest issue with these remotes is that a lot of times, they will just freeze up and you have to click the help button and it will check all the inputs and settings and start back working. This is a very handy remote programed all six other remotes that i was using for home theater into this one.

Logitech-ultimate-15-device-universal-customizable-(915-000224) set picture

- I. AnonymousWorks great. Easy to set up. Only issue is that a few times it just shut off everything on its own. Seems isolated though. Battery life is good. Best to leave in charger all the time when not in use and look on youtube on how to change battery.

Buttons could be laid out better. Play, stop, pause, and forward/reverse are all at the top. Rest of the buttons are at the bottom. Need to constantly change hand positions on the remote to control the tv for this reason. Other than that it has worked very reliably. Need to plug it in to charge it about every other day.

FLIRC USB 2nd Generation Universal Remote Control Receiver Media Centers Set Top Boxes

Flirc Generation Universal Control Receiver (100013) FAQ.

Purchased this to pair my online store fire tv with my harmony 650 remote. Set up couldn't have been easier. On the remote the make is flirc model firetv. That is it, plug the device into the back of your online store box and you are good to go. -Notice from U. Janice, Harrow

Setup is simple, once i figured out how to do it. It is not very well explained anywhere. No directions included, and the website isn't too terribly helpful either. It took me a little bit to figure out exactly how to get it set up for our fire tv, but once i got it figured out, it works well! lack of clarity is the only reason for the four stars instead of five. I am so happy to be able to use our inteset universal remote with our fire tv, and eliminate another pesky remote! such a nice ir work around from online store's poor bluetooth application.

- B. KellyThis device and a twelve inch usb cable allowed me to use my harmony 350 ir remote with my fire tv. It set up flawlessly using logitech's myharmony software. I did discover, however, that the instructions on flirc's website were incorrect. It suggests using the "kodi" as the model name. This only provided spotty performance. I found there is a "firetv" option under model and it worked perfectly. I added volume and mute controls manually and am now a happy puppy. . Pros: allows me to use my ir universal remote with the online store fire tv box. Works perfectly after working through a couple of setup obstacles. Cons: i thought it was a little pricey, flirc's instructions on their website are somewhat vague and contain a typo in the fire tv section. Use fire tv instead of kodi in the "model" section myharmony set up software.

This is a must have if you have a home theater setup that has a device with a bluetooth remote and you are trying to use a universal remote without bluetooth. I put this on my online store fire tv after setting it up with the harmony remote on my computer and now i can use one remote agian. This is beyond helpful if you have a wife that needs the simplicity of one remote.

Searched for a long time for a suitable protective cover for harmony remote. This one is definitely one that i would recommend to anyone concerning extending the life of an expensive tv remote. I damaged the old remote from one accidental drop and i was determined for that not to happen again. As anyone can relate, searching and dropping the remote happens from time to time. So a bright cover and the material that absorbs the impact did the trick. Give it a shot, this one by far is the best i've found.

Logitech Harmony 650 Infrared All in One Remote Control, Universal Remote Logitech, Programmable Remote Silver

Contrary to what i read in one review (perhaps for an older version of same model number) the remote itself doesn't feel fragile or "plasticky". I mean, of course if plastic, it would be heavy if it were aluminum or other metal. . Easy set up process, all you have to do is install provided aa batteries in the remote, connect it to tour computer using the mini hdmi to usb cable, also provided, open the web browser, go to myharmony. Com, create an account to download and install a plug-in. Then, from there, follow a step by step guided process, that will ask you to first add brand and model of each of the devices (up to 5) whose remotes you want to replace with the harmony 650. It will then guide you through the set up of the activity buttons (watch tv, listen to music, watch a movie, you could add more using the custom feature) and for each activity it will tell you which devices (of the ones you added at the beginning) you have added and which ones it recommends should be used, to then proceed to select which ports on which device they are connected to for each case. It sounds long, but it's so easy that it took me 10 minutes to perform the whole process described above (5 devices), which ends up by saving your settings and syncing them with your harmony 650 remote. That means that you can change your devices and come back and modify the settings, because they're saved in your myharmony. Com account, and remove or add devices as necessary on the settings and from there sync them again to your remote. You could also migrate to another model of harmony remote (one that can handle more devices, for example) and copy those settings to the new one. . Afterwards when you use it on your entertainment center it will guide you via the small lcd screen on the remote and tell you what to do if, for example one of the devices that should be turned on wasn't for the activity you selected, and it fixes it when you push the help button. I have it already working, and tested every activity without problems. Not bad, since i replaced 5 remotes and avoided all the separate turning on and off of each device using its own remote. Great product.

Logitech Harmony 650 Infrared All in One Remote Control, Universal Remote Logitech, Programmable Remote SilverLogitech-Harmony-Infrared-Universal-Programmable

Logitech Harmony Infrared Universal Programmable (915 000159) FAQ.

This remote was difficult for me to justify the price prior to buying it, but it was worth every penny! the wife got tired of juggling remotes in the house, so i was tasked with buying a universal remote. I figured i'd do it right and opted for this one. . First and foremost, make sure you know all of the electronics you're going to use. This remote gets programmed from your computer and the software asks for brand and model number for these electronics. You can get this information from the sticker behind or underneath all of your electronics - it wouldn't hurt writing these down while you're waiting for it to arrive to speed up programming it. . Once i had this remote programmed though, wow! i just pressed "watch tv" and the surround sound stereo, tv, and cable box turn on and switch to the proper inputs of each device on their own! the same applies for any other function on the remote. You can also program your own custom functions. I have one set to switch the stereo and tv on to work with the playstation 3, another for the wii, and even one for the chromecast through the sound system. When one function is turned on, the unused electronics turn off. The interface even allows you to switch to a specific device and use specific buttons for that independently. It's also intelligent to know that one device controls volume and another for playback controls. . Just because this is a smart remote doesn't mean the technology is, however. It still uses ir light to communicate with the electronics it controls - it's the only way it can interact anyway. Because of this, there are some things to avoid doing for the smoothest experience with this remote. The remote remembers the last thing it did. For instance, if you press "watch tv" and all of the appropriate components turn on and switch inputs, then you get up and turn the tv off from the physical power button on the tv, pressing "watch dvd" will only switch the input, thinking the tv is still on. Try to stick to only using the remote so you don't throw things off like this. Also, make sure the remote has a clear field of view of all electronics it controls. If a component is blocked, it won't receive the command from the remote, but the remote won't know and assume it turned on/off or whatever you wanted it to do. . Fortunately, if something does go wrong, there is a "help" button that tries to figure out what went wrong. It will attempt correct a common issue and ask you if the problem is fixed. If not, you press the button associated with "no" and it tries another command. This repeats until you you tell it "yes. ". . The functionality of this remote is incredible. It simplifies the process of being a couch potato or being entertained. Using the remote is practically idiot-proof, but it takes a little more work programming it. Although this uses an lcd screen, the battery has lasted significantly longer than i expected. It also includes a motion sensor which turns the screen on when it detects the remote being picked up. After using this remote, though, i can't imagine going a day without using it! -Notice from N. Stacey, Newcastle upon Tyne

It really is very simple to program. All you need is the model number of the devices that work together and the input they presently work on. Logitechs software is easy to use -just plug the above in and done. There tech support was good as i had one combination that didnt work-turned out it was my mistake and they corrected it immediately. I previously had a universal remote which was excellent but the buttons started to fail. That one required a professional to program and cost me a total of $300 to get working with 2 visits from geek squad. This one cost $50 and 1 hour of my time. It is not quite as quick when initializing but more than adequate. My system is relatively simple but-i have tv, tivo, home theater receiver, blu ray dvd and an older hi def dvd player-alll work well with this remote.

Logitech-harmony-infrared-universal-programmable-(915-000159) set picture

- . BarbaraExactly what i was looking for. One remote to rule them all! this was ridiculously easy to set up. No code punching multiple times on the remote. You plug it into the computer, download some software and program everything through there step by step. It allows me to not only turn everything on and off with the push of 1 button, but also turn everything on and change to a predetermined input. So i can press one button to turn everything on and switch to the tv input or i can press one button and turn everything on and switch to the firestick input. This remote not only simplifies my coffee table, but also all uses of my entertainment center devices. If you're looking for a universal remote, i highly recommend this one!

This remote is extremely easy to use. I have 4 of these throughout my house and have used them for the past 10 or so years. None of them have broken, but the batteries tend to die every 4-6 months with reasonably use. I love the logitech app that allows you to plug the remote into a usb cord that connects to your computer and simple "download" all the components you want it to control. I also like the functionality that allows you to create program modes such as "watch tv" or "watch apple tv", allowing you to change the tv input, sound input, etc. To adjust to where you need it to be. Installation takes less than 10-15 minutes upon first using. Highly recommended for people wanting a quality universal remote that is super easy to use and control.

The F.A.Q. for logitech 915-000162 harmony 700 rechargeable remote with color screen black discontinued by manufacturer

I love this remote control. I am an old guy who has purchased universal remotes and programmable remotes for the last 30 years. This one is truly innovative, and mine has worked perfectly so far. My previously owned remote controls were "device based" and you had to change from device to device to operate all of your equipment. Let's say you have 5 devices, the old remote controls were better than 5 different remote controls and all of the clutter they caused. And it would take forever to program all of the functions that you want on a single remote control. This logitech harmony 700 is "activity based" and it was so easy to setup using my computer and the myharmony website. An example: "directv + sound" as an activity does all of the following with the press of one button on the remote. It turns on 3 devices; my tv and av receiver, and the sat receiver. It sets the tv to the right input, it sets my sound amp to the right sound input, and device controls are for the directv sat receiver, and yet the sound and mute buttons affect my sound amplifier. It is wonderful. I like the 700 better than the 650 because the batteries are more powerful and they are rechargeable.

A number of questions have been asked here.

This is my 3rd harmony remote. My 880 finally died after about 8 years (well, the fast forward button would just sometimes go off and skip what i was watching, so i killed it) and i have a 650 in another room. This model is a very solid replacement to my 880 and even better than the 650. . Pros:. - like any harmony remote, this makes controlling many devices easy. Their activity model lets you turn on the correct devices and set them to the correct inputs all with a single button press. - their online programming interface continues to get better. For each activity you can control any button on the remote to be any command for any device. For the most part it picks the best buttons. But it's nice to be able to move things to more accessible areas. For example, i like to move the sleep timer buttons to the first screen in case i fall asleep with the tv on. - the form factor is good. It's easily held in 1 hand. - it has all of the important buttons. Some other remotes combine scan and fast forward buttons or are missing things modern devices use like exit, the color buttons or back. - the button placement is good. If it weren't for reviews, i wouldn't have noticed that the ultimate home, ultimate one and a few others put the play, fast forward, etc. At the very top of the remote: a dumb position for some of the most frequently used buttons. - the back lighting is very nice. - the screen is great. Without the screen, you would just have to know where you had mapped any non-standard buttons you want to map to the remote (sleep, other activities, input 5, etc. ) even some more expensive universal remotes are missing this. - uses standard rechargeable batteries. My 880 required a special battery that was expensive and sometimes liked to get loose in its case and lose connection unless i used something to keep it pressed against the contacts. . Cons:. - either the signal is weaker or the buttons are sometimes less responsive. I find myself holding buttons longer or trying to press a button several times, especially when i'm in my kitchen, a straight line but about 20' from the tv. I haven't had similar problems with my other remotes: harmony or other brand. - no battery indicator that i've found. - some of the more expensive models have the ability to use mobile devices as extra remotes and use a remote transmitter rather than the remote. This transmitter can even be put in a closed cabinet so that you can control your hidden devices. While that's a nice feature, it's not worth the money to me. And some of those more expensive remotes are even missing some nice features this remote has. - a really small nitpick, but the menu buttons just don't feel as good as most of the versions more like a circle that you'd fine on a tivo remote or most other harmony remotes. - an annoyance with all harmony remotes i've tried: even when the device has commands for power on and power off, the remote uses the power toggle command and tries to remember the state of the device. It's easy to confuse the remote by replacing the battery in the remote, turning a device off by hand or using sleep timers. If the device is off and the remote thinks it's on, it won't try to turn it on. That makes sense for devices that only have power toggle commands. At lot of devices have power on /off commands, though, even if they're not on their regular remote. For devices with power on commands, it should just try power on even if it thinks the device is still on. You can get around this by pressing the 'all off' button before pressing activity, or by going through the help menu ("is your tv on? ", "is your tv on now? ", "did that fix your problems? ") still, it's something they should fix for devices that have power on. On my 880 i got around this by customizing each activity to throw an extra power on command in the macro. On this device i just got in the habit of pressing off before pressing activity when the devices are off.

Does what it's supposed to. Carries a charge for a long time. I like it better than the more expensive version with the fancy touch screen we had before-always found the touch screen to hard to use due to small size and the odd viewing angle you have when you're trying to see what you're pressing on the touch screen while aiming the remote at the tv. I find physical buttons next to the display are a more reliable and easier way to operate.

This remote controls my tv, cable box, a/v receiver, computer, and sound bar. I press one button to "watch tv" and it turns on everything in the correct order. If i press "watch a movie", it turns off the cable box and switches to the computer so i can watch netflix. It takes some preparation to set up correctly. You need the correct model numbers for your equipment. The you go to the logitech website, connect the remote to your computer, and enter the codes. The remote is updated and you're good to go. One tip: when it's time to change batteries, turn everything off first. Then you avoid having to resync the remote by answering all the "is the xxx on? " questions.

F. Pearce, Midi-Pyrenees

This remote works great! i've got it linked with a digital cable converter box, my roku, my gaems vanguard monitor, and partially with my ps4. There are limitations to what you can do, both on the remote side and on the side of whatever you are linking it too. . . For example, the gaems monitor, it's not even listed as compatible but as long as you have the original ir remote for the system, then you can do a lot. It's a bit buggy with my gaems monitor when in the menu, but really, i only need it to be able to turn the tv on and work the volume up and down. . . . The biggest most important warning i have is this, do not use this with usb 3. 0. There are major issues when syncing and usb 3. 0. My laptop only has 3. 0, but luckily i have a usb hub which is 2. 0, so i've been golden.

Y. Hakala, Derbyshire says

Works well for limited use. I just wanted to have a universal remote to displace three other remotes that were not designed to control multiple devices completely. The harmony 700 does the job while a universal remote by rca did not. I decided this is a keeper for the bedroom tv but chose the touch for the more elaborate living room situation where i want easily accessible favorites, complete individual hardware menus and controls, and event-driven controls that i find more conducive to screen touch that button memory. . One precaution: give yourself some time to learn what this remove can do. It is easy to become discouraged with the impression that the harmony is not working correctly when in fact operator error might be the issue. I have learned this the hard way!

Like every other family in the country we had 4 or 5 remotes in our living room. Which was driving me nuts. I was hesitant to buy this remote because of the reviews making it seem like one had to be a rocket scientist to set t up. So, when we did get the remote we set aside an hour to get it all right. It only took 20 minutes and a double of tips off google searches to set up. Since then, we are a one remote living room. The charge lasts more than a month at a time, which is great. Not a cheap remote, but worth the money.

M. Finch, West Virginia says

I bought this remote to replace a logitech harmony one that finally broke after years of use and one too many falls onto a tile floor. I don't like the button layout on the newer high-end harmony remotes and this remote has basically the same layout as my old harmony one so i decided to try it out. I actually like this remote more than the harmony one (which cost 3 times what i paid for this remote). I was able to go almost 4 weeks on the first charge for this remote (vs charging the harmony one every 2-3 days) and as a bonus it uses standard aa batteries so they will be easy and cheap to replace later on when the original batteries no longer hold a charge. I actually prefer the physical buttons next to the screen on this remote vs the touchscreen on the harmony one. In summary, you can't go wrong with this remote unless you have a need for bluetooth or wifi remote control. For that you will need one of the more expensive touchscreen logitech remotes.

N. Annette, Stockport

I've been buying & installing component audio/visual equipment for myself for 20 years, which is fortunate or unfortunate, depending on your point of view. We all know items can be mediocre or downright defective. Computers and their components especially so. If universal learning remotes were model t's then computer based ones, such as this, are supersonic transports! . . I bought a urc mx-500 learning remote probably 12 years ago and it worked fine until i managed to drop it into a bowl of water. I hadn't kept up with the advances technology and didn't realize these even existed. As expected when i called urc they couldn't be bothered, nor do they support discontinued models like the one i wanted - not the case with logitech harmony. Not only do they support them, they answered my cautious pre-sale questions patiently and professionally. The only question i had about its use they handled the same way. Great support. . I won't expound on the other reviews here but add to them: learning remotes are pointed at the original remotes to learn their frequencies. You. Can use the pre-programmed codes, but that's hit or miss and often incomplete. Macros, or "activities" as logitech calls them, are one button commands sent out as a series of commands from the components so you can press one button and turn on everything you want as a "macro. ". My previous learning remote worked well but learning it was tedious - the instructions complete but cryptic. Programming macros have to be exact and you have enter each command or function manually that you carefully entered under each component previously. If you mess up or miss one function you have to start over. Not only that but you have to enter "pauses" or "delays" in the right places for some macro commands because some need to warm-up before the others can be entered. I must have spent 16 hours or so before i got everything right. Changing or adding something later required looking up all the steps again. . The logitech harmony 700 is a computer! after downloading the appropriate "myharmony software" you enter the model numbers or manufacturer's name of each device and it imports all the functions for you. They claim they have the data for over 225, 000 different devices and i believe it. (go on their website and verify all your devices before hand. ) i even added an ancient ipod player device and they had it. Their ads claims you can have up to (6) devices, but but you can have (8) ! (this is where you have to be exact as with any computer entries. Entering one wrong number or description may result in adding a similar device with the wrong functions. ) you then set up to 23 activities with the ability to name each one or rename the existing ones. They ask you which devices are part of each activity and then verify which aren't. The setup is easy with excellent graphics and text. You then add favorite tv channels assigned to the device that use for this. Changes to the activities, devices, or channels can easily done done with clear and simple instructions within the software. . Perhaps the greatest surprise was that the functions assigned to all the buttons on the 700 were intuitive and clear, with almost all functions there within each device. Finally you can easily customize each button as you wish. The initial setup took less than an hour (being careful). I have since spent only several hours tweaking to my great satisfaction. (this does pre-suppose you understand all the functions imported as the myharmony software will import them exactly as the manufacturer describes. You can then add, eliminate, or change the order. ) the remote has a motion sensor that will turn of the display when not used and immediately come back on when you pick it up. . In conclusion this is the only product i've ever bought i would actually gladly pay more than retail again. Bravo!

B. Lorenz, Languedoc-Roussillon says

Bought this as a spare for my harmony one. Every since logitech went to the newer models, i have not been happy, and chose instead to buy this. Although it's a step down from the touch sensitive one, it offers the same control layout with the exception of the top buttons to start particular activities (watch tv, watch a movie, listen to music, etc. ) the lettering on those buttons is a little small for some in the house. . I am glad i found this unit to control everything while i sent the one off for repairs. I'm glad logitech still offers a unit with a rational control layout!

E. Amanda, California

This was my 1st harmony remote purchase. So far i'm pleased with the unit and with its functionality. A big plus for me was the inclusion of the ac adapter, the usb cable and the 2 rechargeable batteries. Once draw back is that there is no dock for charging - i read that other models include a dock. This is a pain if you ask me since you will need to plug the micro usb cable to the remote and then plug into wall ac charger. I would strongly recommend getting another set of rechargeable batteries and separate charger to have fresh batteries when the unit needs them. . Setting up the unit requires a computer and logitech software which is pretty easy to use. Adding components i. E. Tvs, dvrs etc is easy and intuitive and easy enough if you have model numbers. I won't bore you with too many details regarding the setups since they will vary depending on your own set up and components. In my case all 3 tvs (sony and vizio) and tivos (roamio and mini's) work flawlessly and can all be controlled from 1 remote. . My only wish is that this unit would control the ps3 and ps4 but that's asking way too much from one solid remote at this price point. Overall i'm pleased with my unit, its ergonomics and performance so far.

K. Russell, New South Wales says

Good and powerful remote with few limitation when compared to the top of the line harmonies. . This is our 4th harmony remote, and the most basic model. But it doesn't lack performance. Our favorite model is the harmony one, with its touchscreen and nice, large buttons. But this harmony 700 is still very competent. We do miss the touchscreen and not having six buttons on the screen, but it does get the job done. And the soft, silicone-like buttons are an improvement over the old generation, top of the line harmonies, like the 880 and 688 models. . The 700's buttons light up when the remote is woken up with movement, and the rechargeable batteries are charged with the common micro-usb socket; very handy. We had the remote for about two months, and we have yet to charge it, even though we use it daily. . The online programming site has become way more user friendly since when first harmonies came out, but it still takes some learning. Once the user becomes accustomed to the system, making small tweaks to the remote becomes a simple task. . Overall, the 700 is a strong performer, and if you're on a budget and can grab one for under $80 like we did, since it's a discontinued model, there is no need to go for the $250 harmony.

Q. Monique, South Carolina

This remote is just lovely what else can i say. It fits well into my hands and was a chinch to setup. . Pros-. - back light automatically comes on when you pick up the remote. - rechargeable via provided usb cored and aa batteries. - intuitive, you can find the buttons without looking at the remote. - button prioritization - the harmony program setup allows prioritize functions. Without any switching of functions after programming, the remote will only use the a/v for volume and dish to change the channel. No more pressing buttons on the top of provided dish network remote to change between functions to perform each. - responsive - everything works well and fast, no lag or distance issues when buttons are pressed. It is to note that i am only about 10-15' from my t. V. And other equipment. - i removed 4 remotes from my living room with the one remote. . Cons-. - not much of a con but it would've been nice if came with a simple cradle for the remote. - as the backlight is listed as a pro, the con of the back light is that everything above the screen is not back lit. It is annoying when i come home at night pick up the remote and it automatically turns on the backlight but i can't find the "all on" button because it isn't part of the back light system. Would it have been that much more trouble to back light 6 more buttons?

. Ophelia, Brighton and Hove says

I've owned a lot of universal remotes over the years, including several from logitech and this harmony 700 is one of the best. I previously had a logitech 1000 with the large touchscreen which finally died after 5 years of use. While the touchscreen is nice, it can be awkward to use because you have to be looking down at the screen rather than forward towards the equipment. May sound like a small thing, but it can become a pain to use. The harmony 700 has a small screen (not touch sensitive) which provides access to specific devices and additional controls. The programming couldn't be simpler. Go on line to the logitech harmony site, tell it what devices you have and then what activities you want to set up (watch a movie, watch tv, watch roku, listen to music, etc), and you are pretty much done. Very simple, very quick and it makes all your activities a single button affair. In my opinion, even though this remote has been discontinued, it is an excellent value. Lots of control, lots of flexibility simple to setup and use, at a very cheap price. You can spend a whole lot more, but you won't get a whole lot more.

Z. Alice, Leicester says

The logitech harmony remotes can be programmed with your computer from logitech's website. They have a very extensive list of electronic products of varied makes and models. Vcrs, dvd player/recorders, bluray player/recorders, tvs, audio cassette players and recorders, stereo amplifiers, electronic switch boxes, etc. You plug your remote into your computer with a usb cable, go to the website and select the make and model of your electronic component. The unit gets programming for that particular unit and you are set to go. You can use this remote and save the factory remote for a backup just in case. This remote will accept programming for up to 8 or 10 different components. The advantage that this remote has over normal universal remotes is that the normal universal remotes only operate the common functions on your component. The display screen on this remote allows for 4 functions per page with the 4 buttons on either side of the screen and they can have 5 or 6 pages, as needed, for functions that are unique to your component. This model remote is rechargeable, but the have others that just use regular batteries as well. This unit will not charge off of your computer, you need to use a usb charger, because the remote assumes programming mode when it senses that it is connected to a computer. Also, i have one usb charger that the remote does not recognize (it gave me an error message that it could not charge the batteries but the batteries were no defective) but i plugged it into a different charger and it charged up just fine. I would recommend these remotes to everyone because you will always have access to all the functions on the component, and you can switch the remote to several different units to control them without having to pick up a different remote. It avoids all the clutter.

C. Erickson, Somerset

This is just my personal opinion, but i think that the harmony 700 is the best universal remote out there and it's just a disgrace that logitech has decided to discontinue this model. The ergonomics are very good, the back-lighting is excellent, the keypad is solid with good tactile feel, and the battery life is also very good. Not to mention the fact that it uses rechargeable aa nimh batteries rather than some expensive proprietary solution. Programming is done online, so you need a pc with internet access for initial set-up, but once you have done this, it's not a requirement for day-to-day use. Nearly all the buttons are programmable to serve any function on any device in any activity and it even has learning capability for any obscure devices you may have. And a big plus. It doesn't have a fragile touch-screen that seems to be the norm among the latest universal remote offerings. While the unit feels solidly built, i bought two for the sad eventuality of the first one getting broken, or just wearing out and a replacement no longer being available. . The only two cons i can point out is that there is no back-lighting on the activity or power buttons, and there is no charging cradle. Rather recharging is done by plugging it into a usb port or the included charger, or alternately putting the batteries into a nimh battery charger, which is the method i use since i have several eneloop panasonic advanced individual cell battery charger with eneloop aa 2100 cycle rechargeable batteries (white, pack of 4) batteries and a charger on hand.

L. Jennifer, Cumbria says

I bought this to replace a 6 year old harmony 670. I prefer using the aa batteries rather than proprietary lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, as i can always have a spare set of them ready to go when i need to swap them out. This remote is advertised to last up to a week between charges. I bought mine dec 21, and after the initial use with a fully charged set of enerloops (long lasting rechargeable aa batteries from sanyo), since then i've only had to recharge it one time - today is feb 20. So i'm averaging at least a month between charges. No cradle to put this thing back in, it just sits on my coffee table where i need it. When it did finally lose its charge, the warning message displayed but the remote still worked through an evening of viewing, clicking, etc. So i charged it up overnight and its lasted a month plus since then. . The limitations of this remote are fine for me - controls only 6 devices but i only have four so not a big deal to me. I read someone say they insisted it would control 8 devices, but that is not true of mine, it would not let me add a 7th device. With the four color buttons, i have this mimicking a direct tv remote perfectly. For the price i paid for this, it works perfectly and i will probably buy another one for the bedroom soon.

T. Morgan, Minnesota

I've always been a fan of the harmony series of remotes. They are generally easy to program and their database of hardware it has the frequencies to is insanely large. But i can't give it 5-stars for the one serious flaw they likely won't fix, in that you have to have an internet connection to program them. . From a product management standpoint, they should allow an offline option where the list of devices can be downloaded to your local machine so that if you're internet goes down you can still program your remote. Requiring users to connect to their online service in order to do anything to the remote is a pain and a waste of bandwidth for making small changes such as button mappings and things like that. . We had our last harmony for over 6 years, before going without for a couple years. After getting this, i forgot how nice it was. Highly recommend this remote even with that product flaw.

R. Nielsen, South Australia says

I purchased this remote to give to my dad for father's day. It works great with his sony tv, sony sound system, some other brand bluray player, and his cable box. It is really neat how it switches all of the inputs of each device as needed for things like "watch tv" or "listen to music". The only issue my parents had with setting it up was a simple fix for me. When they hit "listen to music", it set the sound system to "internet radio" mode, but the don't have it connected to any internet radio. It was pretty simple to connect the remote to a computer, fire up the harmony software, and change that option to switch to the fm tuner. Since making that small change, everything is perfect! it's a great gift for the guy who has everything!

. Teresa, Suffolk

I bought this to replace my harmony one, which was getting worn out and some buttons quit working. Unfortunately the harmony one is no longer available. The harmony 700 is almost and good. It appears to be more rugged, but does not have the recharge "saddle" that the harmony one had. It has to be plugged in to recharge. Otherwise it does everything that the harmony one did and it was easy to transfer the settings from the harmony one to the harmony 700.

The complete set up is complicated and really time consuming and odd but you can adjust literally every single button on each different device within the software. Even if the software does not know the right button to perform a certain function on your specific device, there is actually a way to "teach" the controller a new button press as long as you have the existing controller. You can get it up and running 95% of the way in 15-30 minutes with a laptop. The controller has a high gloss coating on the top part and the lcd lights up when you pick up or even jostle the controller ever so slightly. Unfortunately this version isn't touchscreen but it looks and feels very high-end in person.

I had the harmony one before and i broke the stupid lcd display and it was the worst thing that could ever happen. At least by memory i could still turn on my activities. The problem was that i couldnt control anything by itself so after a year with the struggle and wanting to get the same remote i decided to go with this amazing and crazy affordable replacement! i cant be any happier. It controls up to 8 devices and that should be plenty and althought its not touch screen im pretty fine with the physical buttons. Im old school. Definetely the best out there i really recommended it to anyone whos low in cash and want to get rid of all the clutter the remotes create. Simply the best!

This does work well, but, here are some tips which will help you once you get it. . To initialize the unit, you'll need the serial number and make/model for all of your gear. Best to take pics of your units using your phone in advance so that you can zoom in and type it into the software which configures the unit. Once that's done, the setups can be just a bit confusing if you happen to have an hdmi switch and don't use the source selector on your tv. So, tip 1, if you have an hdmi switch, when you configure the tv for input on an action, just pick the source the hdmi switch feeds, typically hdmi1. In another step, pick which of the hdmi switch settings matches the configuration. . Tip 2, and this is important, is to be sure you remove the little plastic protective cover from the infrared cover on the remote itself. That's at the bottom (facing you) not the top. If you do not do that, then the remote will operate improperly, missing steps. . Finally, tip 3, this unit will send commands to each unit in a sequence, so, when you press, for example 'watch tv' keep the unit pointed at your gear until it is all done. That doesn't take long, but, if you press it then put it down, it won't finish. . As for the unit itself, if a particular action doesn't work, you can press help and you'll be walked-through a fix. . I'm giving 4 stars only because of the setup; it is one a geek will love, but everyone else may struggle with. So, if you're up for using usb ports on your computer, downloading control software, entering information by hand and then configuring actions, by all means get it. On the other hand, if you're not, look into a unit which provides a list of device ids you can look up instead.

After having a second logitech harmony one universal remote with color touchscreen succumb to mild household abuse, i replaced it with this harmony 700 for about half the cost. . In short, there's little to miss by getting this instead of the harmony one. I don't miss the touch screen - in fact, the buttons on the 700 are much easier to locate with your fingers and press, while the touch screen on the one requires careful finger placement. Programming from the harmony one was loaded into the 700 without change. . Battery life thus far seems good, and after using it for a week it still was working great but we plugged it back into the supplied usb charger anyway. The battery compartment does get warm on charge - i hope this is not an indicator that the batteries are being overcharged which would reduce their life span, but at least they are readily available standard aa rechargables. . I like the dedicated activity buttons on the top of the 700, though oddly they are not illuminated like all the other keys on the unit. . A definite plus over the one is the inclusion of 4 colored buttons - no flipping thru the touch screen to access short cuts anymore for my directv dvr or panasonic blu-ray player. . The only thing i miss as compared to the harmony one is the charging cradle. For this and the non-illuminating activity buttons i'd rate this as a 4. 5 out of 5 - tho online store's rating forces me to choose either 4 or 5.

V. Lisa, Nord-Pas-de-Calais says

It does not "learn" buttons on my directv remote making it a pain cause i'm use to easy 1 step buttons. Syncing this on my harmony is also a pain cause it takes me plugging it into the computer over and over till it finally works. It doesn't turn on all my devices like it should so i'm always having to turn everything off then back on but that doesn't even work most of the time. Looking for a better universal remote. Update:. Their customer service is very good. They updated my software with delete buttons that were missing to run my directv remote. I'm satisfied now.

W. Pearson, Hartlepool

Just got the remote tonight and hooked it up. So far, so good! i have owned a number of universal remotes in the past- all inexpensive sony units. They were cheap but difficult to set up (took at least an hour to "teach" them all the commands for my simple setup) and invariably failed within six months (buttons wore out, have to reprogram to another button, then that wore out, etc). So i decided to take the plunge with this expensive unit. . Pros:. . - after i followed the directions, the unit worked flawlessly with all my hardware without having to manually and painstakingly "program" all the keys. I have two dvrs and need to be able to switch between with one touch (changing the amp and tv inputs). This unit did it first time out. Awesome. . - versatile- i feared that i could only program a single "watch tv" and would have to hijack some other function- no, you can make it do whatever you want. Excellent. . - unit has a nice feel and clicky keys intuitively placed. . Cons:. . - takes some careful time to get it to work (plugged into the computer to program). You have to know all your components exact model numbers and where they are hooked up, as well as some end-to-end "learning" on a few keys for it to know what exact hardware you have (not all the keys, just a few). Not as simple as 1-2-3 but not horrible either. . - a little complicated. Watch the videos carefully to understand what the screen does and how to flip from device mode to activity mode. It is not completely intuitive and it could be a little simpler. Once you understand what it is doing/ how it works everything is fine but you are not going to be able to jump right in without the video. Also the "more actions" flips the screen to a third mode. You see the point. A little clunky. . Overall, very happy with the unit so far. Will report back in a few months to see if it holds up!

A. Perez, Rheinland-Pfalz says

Wow! i have a drawer of so called useless "universal remotes"! it wasn't until i received this logitech harmony 700 that i found an truly outstanding remote! and armed with your model number, programming this remote is so so easy! i love it! but be aware that it will not program an online store firestrick. One issue is that the ok button and the 4 arrow keys around it are a bit small. I'm diabetic and my finger tips are numb so pressing these small buttons so close together is a problem occasionally.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

. Alice, District of Columbia says

This is the second harmony remote i've purchased in one year. In comparison to my first harmony h659 remote i purchased in 2006, the new harmony remotes do not even compare. The harmony h659 lasted for seven years, and i was very pleased with it. I had to replace it because the button touch pads wouldn't work any longer due to wear. With the harmony 600 remote (my second remote), i had trouble with it almost the second week i had it, but i got it to last about ten months before the "help" button burned out and wouldn't work. Sooo, i thought i'd try the harmony 700. I've had it for about four months, and it is working okay, but the touch arrow buttons and signal to the dvr just don't seem to work real well. There is quite a delay to select a recorded program when arrowing down or up. I hope this remote will work longer than a year. It's too bad that there is no quality built into today's products.

L. Meyer, Wisconsin

This products work, but not without some issues. To program it, you must connect it to your computer which is then connected to the internet-based logitech programming application. I have found, with several of these, that the connection between the remote and the computer is unreliable, even when using the logitech-provided cable - and this is true with all three of the units i have owned. . Why have i owned three? for some reason, after a few years of use, it starts intermittently failing to output a strong signal. I don't know why. Is it the buttons wear out? does the circuitry wear out? i don't know, but i just go buy a new (or gently used) one, program it to the existing settings (although then i have to wrestle with the issue above), and start using the newer unit. . Programming it gives it great powers, and it can be highly customized to work exactly as you want it with your devices.

W. Isabel, Maryland says

Logitech really wants you to drink the kool-aid with their remotes. They really want to be the only remotes in the room. The way they do their setup macros means if you change a setting with another remote or manually on a component, you are out of sync and have to jump through hoops to get it back right. Their help screens do a pretty good job of unravelling mismatched modes, but its still a hassle. . I've pretty much learned the tricks. You can customize buttons and screens to help, i also have a trick where i cover the led emitter and press the activity button to get the remote in the right state without toggling power to already-on components. . The web-based setup is easy and powerful. . I'm really disappointed with the limited battery life compared to other remotes. The battery exhausts far too frequently compared to simpler remotes. Its very inconvenient to have to recharge the remote just when you're settling down to a channel-surfing session.

. Gladys, Utah

Quite honestly, it works as described. If you're looking for a comfortable to hold all-in-one programmable remote that isn't exorbitant this is a good choice. The top maroon buttons are not illuminated, which drives me crazy as their functionality is the most you'll use (i. E. "more activities"). Aside from the non-illuminated buttons this controls 5 devices seamlessly for me, however i miss my old 550 this one replaces. The supplied rechargeable batteries get about 7-10 days of usage before needing a refill.

. Cageen, St. Helens says

This is the second one of this model that we have had. I like the harmony family because of the ease of programming and replacing remotes. Our first one lasted almost three years, then it started to reset itself in the middle of operation, going back to the home screen and thinking that everything is off. After three years, i figured it was time to replace it anyway. Then this one, after less than 4 months of use, started to have the exact same problem. So i think that it's some kind of common mechanical or electronic problem inherent in the manufacture of the model. Not going to get this one again.

X. Cindy, Wolverhampton

Harmony remotes solve an obvious problem: most ht setups need to manage power on/off, input selection to a tv, and output selection on a receiver. If your receiver, like mine, has a couple of game machines, an apple tv and a roku, a dvd/bluray player, and an hdtv, the permutations get daunting. Harmony solves that, at least for six devices. . There are two ways to program the device: using software you download or using the logitech website. Both are created by software engineers, not ui designers and both are highly tedious but functional. The problem comes when you program "activities", i. E. , combinations of devices and commands used to do something. Watch apple tv means issuing input selectors to the hdtv, output channels to the receiver, and a power on to all three devices; that becomes one button that is an activity. You can only have six devices on the 700, but you can have a lot of activities. . These activities show up on the lcd screen - two per screen. If you have six activities, you have three screens, so naturally you want to put the common activities on the first screen. Good luck with that. . There is a hack described here . That works for some users and not others. I got it to work by disabling the dedicated function keys. It is worth reading this post before buying the device. . Logitech is a fine company. But they are selling a $150 remote whose major claim is that it automates and customizes. So let us automate and customize already. . The hardware is fine. I especially value the ability to recharge it and not burn through batteries or have to deal with a recharging stand. But the software.

B. Claudia, Sheffield says

I was unable to establish an online account with logitech in order to program the remote over the internet. Which appears to be a problem for a great many people. I had to download remote programming software to do it off line. The remote looks good, is comfortable to hold, has many functions, and the devises respond immediately to commands. However, the remote often fails to turn on, or turn off, some of the devices. The help button is very helpful to correct the problems that occur. But having to push several buttons to correct these problems defeats the whole idea of one-button function control. I was also disappointed that the remote can not correctly program the input mode to my tv for viewing dvds (hdmi1 and hdmi2). I have to use the tvs own remote to do that. This is the third harmony remote that i have had over the past several years. It seems like logitech is adding more bells and whistles at the expense of reliability.

R. Gina, Florida

After i received this remote i followed the instructions to charge and program the device. I successfully programmed the device which i found to be pretty intuitive. . The issue i have is; the charger doesn't work. When using a different charger, it works with no issues. All i need is the charger to be replaced. . I called logitech and they said to return the product to online store. I start to fill out the return/replace online form to find out online store no longer has the device and i can only get a refund. I bought the product on 12/26, it arrived 12/28, and trying to get this resolved on 12/31. . So, i need to make a decision; share the other charger with this remote or return the product and repurchase at a much higher cost. Doesn't seem fair, but it is what it is.

Logitech 915-000162 harmony 700 rechargeable remote with color screen (black) discontinued by manufacturer . . . I wanted to love this and it was almost there with a good manual useful features. Here are the issues i had:. . 1. Difficulty setting up. Never could get it to recognize tivo so really i am using the tivo universal remote which does everything i want for less dollars. Sigh. 2. Difficulty charging. There seems to be some usb the charger does not like. Other reviewers have had similar issues. 3. The ergonomics and intuitive nature of the design could be better. . I don't think i will buy another logitech remote. To be fair, i am not sure there are any exceptional ones out there if this was one of the highest rated.

G. Shayna, Arkansas

I bought this in march of 2012 and i loved it ever since! works perfectly with every device in my home theater. I bought this rechargeable model due to the reviews and also it'd be nice not to change out batteries. It's now sept of 2013 and now my remote will not charge! when i try it gives me a "insert batteries" on the lcd screen. I went to logitech support and followed all the steps that were given to fix this issue and of course none of them worked. I used different usb cable thinking maybe the one it came with went bad, still nothing. I was going to just insert regular aa batteries however it says to only use a certain type of battery or it can ruin the remote. Finally emailed logitech and went throguh all their steps which did not fix the issue, finally the agent said that he will do a replacement if the remote is still under the year warranty. I told them that it's not, they then told me there is nothing they can do! this is absurd! to spend this much money on a remote and it doesn't even last past a year! so now i've been completely screwed! online store said i can return it for half a refund, but still i'm on a limited budget that wont buy me another remote. So now i'm without a remote because logitech wont help me out. Last time i'll be buying from logitech! that's for sure!

I. Elanor, Kirklees says

Solid remote with major flaws. Yes, the battery does last a long time. No issue there. But there is no battery life indicator on the screen and you don't get any warning when running low. So unless you plug it in regularly (which defeats the purpose of long battery life) you go from working perfectly to dead with no warning. While plugged in a battery graphic with a bolt tells you it's charging, but doesn't tell you the % charged or when it is done. When you unplug it the battery graphic doesn't go away, and it doesn't return to normal operation. You can push all the buttons you want, the battery graphic stays on the screen and it doesn't work. The only way to get it working is to take out the batteries and put them back in. And after you do that, you have to go through the tutorial before you can start using it again (thankfully, it does retain the device programming). What a hassle. . And when is harmony going to get rid of the remote assistant? like previous models, it constantly asks you if you want to hide the assistant, and it won't operate until you answer. Does the assistant even do anything the help button doesn't? if harmony is so in love with this outdated 1990s feature, just put an assistant button on the remote and keep the damn thing hidden unless we decide to turn it on. And the ability to skip the tutorial would be nice too. Nobody wants to be constantly answering to their remote. . Harmony is very good at making initial programming of the remote easy, but seem to give up on the interface after that. Once i'm done programming it, i don't want to mess with it any more, and i certainly don't want it to interrupt operation. Do what i ask you to do, otherwise sit there and look pretty.

. Angelica, Berlin

This remote is pure garbage and extremely frustrating. It hardly ever does what you want. Switching tv input is aggravating and takes 3-4 button presses. When you're on dvd you can't control volume without switching device back to tv. Then you have to switch back to dvd to control the dvd. I've yet to pick it up and have it "just work". It's always a minute of troubleshooting. It resets by itself and you have to plug it in to fix. I'm a young tech type also, so this isn't old man syndrome. It's just garbage.

U. Julia, California says

This remote is just ok- it has to be constantly reprogramed and is a bit frustrating to use. If you are not used to fiddling with this remote when trying to get your home theater to turn on and off in the right sequence you will probably want to throw it at the wall. I had a harmony one prior to this one and there is no comparison. The harmony one was fantastic but the price is ridiculous. The lcd touch screen went blank rendering it useless and i bought the harmony 700 to replace it. By the way. Don't expect logitech to do anything if you have a problem with any of their remotes when they break even due to a product defect-you will be wasting your time.

T. Franklin, York

Logitech's website is quite easy to use for setting up the remote, and the remote is very user-friendly. We have used ours for several months with no problems. Our system includes a yamaha tuner, appletv, samsung tv, comcast set-top box, sony blu-ray, and internet radio. . Update: i have changed the stars from 5 to 3. After 1. 5 years, the remote started switching the yamaha to analog instead of hdmi at startup, sometimes it would not turn off all the equipment, and it would turn the sound off when switching components. The battery would never show a full charge. Updates at myharmony did no good. As a result, we recently upgraded to a more expensive harmony touch that works flawlessly.

S. Michele, Suffolk says

This remote is powerful. I really liked the functions this remote has. The problem i have is it didn't have my pioneer receiver in it's library and i had to learn in raw mode to get it to work with it. It is suppose to wake up when you move it but i have to shake it hard, tap it on something, or push buttons to wake it up. When i plug it in now to charge it the display says insert batteries instead of charging. I have had bad luck with purchases lately working correctly so i might just have a bad one. My friend has one and loves it.

Z. Mahood, Warwickshire

Easy set up. Looks good. Like the motion activated backlighting. Battery life sucks. I inserted fully charged eneloop ni-mh batteries (charged with maha and after 3 hrs the remote stopped working. I have now recharged the batteries by connecting the remote to the charger and it seems to last a bit longer.

H. Ophelia, Croydon says

Update dec 22, 2014 . . *do not update to myharmony software*. As of a week ago, my remote started crashing every time i pressed an activity button. I figured i would update to the latest configuration software as a means of refreshing the software on the remote. Big mistake. It did fix the crashing, but in the change to the new configuration software, it wiped out all of my custom button mapping. Now, i've gone in and tried to restore the functions i had and even though the software shows it has updated, the remote doesn't recognize the changes (still has the old button functionality). What's worse, once the button has a function, there is no way to unassign it completely, you can only give it new functions (but they don't actually stick). Also, many of the commands are delayed to the point of being unusable (like the volume button - i have to press it 30 or 40 times to get it to move down 5 notches). . Since this seems to be broken configuration software, it would seem that all logitech remotes will be affected by this. So, after being a harmony customer for 10 years, it looks like i'm in the market for a new brand. I had heard that logitech was planning to sell off their harmony remote business, apparently they decided to just destroy it instead. They have a history of doing this (squeezebox anyone? ), so it seems inline with their corporate policy. . Original review . . I love this remote! prior to this, i had a harmony 880 that i used for 3 years. First of all, this remote is heads and tails above the 880 in ergonomics. It fits in the hand perfect and the buttons have a very satisfying feel that we easy to navigate by touch. Further, i love the hard buttons for the most oft used activities: watch tv, watch movies, and listen to music. This helps a ton with folks in my household that are less technical since they don't need to wait for a lcd screen to light up. The "all off" button is very intuitive as well. . I think i will kind of miss the charging dock of the 880, but only slightly. As it was, i was only having to charge the remote every 2 months, so i think dealing with a charging cord akin to my cell phone charger will be a minimal inconvenience. . I for one have always been quite happy with the configuration app for harmony remotes and it works great with my mac. Migrating from the 880 to the 700 was a breeze. For anyone that has an older harmony remote, even if it is a "higher end" model, i would definitely recommend this remote. If you're considering a harmony and have never had one, i would recommended it too.

. Benton, West Virginia

Didn t last very long. Stopped working about a month after purchasing this product

A. Rita, Ohio says

I am sure many love it, but it requires microsoft silverlight, which is no longer supported, so i could not get the software to install. Returned.

P. Sharon, Telford and Wrekin

It gets the job done, has newer buttons i like and the on-screen interface is easy to use. . *however*. . Logitech seems to think it needs to force people to pay $100 more just to add a couple extra devices. Earlier versions could handle twice the devices at the same cost. Furthermore, the software interface (either version) stinks. Open the api up so people can write their own sync software. . I love logitech and have been buying their products for ages, but i am not a fan of their design choices as of late. If this is the way things are going to be from now on, this will probably be the last harmony remote i buy.

D. Audrey, Cambridgeshire says

This remote was great when i first purchased it by now, less than a year later, it has lost its charm. I have had to reprogram it several times to get it to turn on the proper devices when i press the "watch tv" button. To this day, it's a crap shoot - sometimes the tv and cable box go on, sometimes they don't. I also have reprogramed it a few times to get it to work with my roku. I think i've pretty much just given up on that one. It really is not worth the money i paid for it and i probably would not purchase it again.

J. Joanna, Dorset

The remote has a lot of buttons to press as the old style of previous remotes. It works fine but after using harmony's touchscreen remote with only a third of the buttons i now find it cumbersome. My son needed a new remote for the flat sceen in his bedroom so i gave it to him. But now i need a touch pen as my fingers aren't slender.

V. Elida, Oldham says

The unit works intermittently, sometimes it turns on the devices sometimes not, even when there is a clear line of sight to the devices. I have two activities programmed, both use the same devices. Most times one activity will function correctly, while the other will not. Most times it's a guess as to which activity will function correctly. I contacted the logitech customer support and after seven minutes of having my description of the problem being repeated back to me by the agent, i gave up and hung up. So much for customer service. I definitely recommend not purchasing a harmony 700 controller regardless of logitech claims that it will function correctly.

C. Moore, Barnet

This remote itself is great. But, the web based software that one uses to program the remote (myharmony. Com) is failing to allow users to login. When logging in the user receives a server error. Hundreds of people have reported this problem to the harmony user forums, but harmony appears to be unresponsive to the problem. Furthermore, the software itself has not evolved for quite some time. There is a lot more that harmony could be doing to advance this product.

Y. Anonymous, Northern Territory says

First, the batteries wouldn't charge. I took them out and put them back (yes, they were in correctly the first time), and it seemed to charge partially, enough to go on with the setup step. Setup had never heard of my tv model, a tv/dvd combo. So i had to "teach" it using the tv remote. Then i set up three activities: watch tv, watch dvd and watch vhs (the latter using a separate unit). It got 99% through the sync phase, where the devices and activities are transferred to the remote, and it gave me an error message saying that sync couldn't complete. Tried again, same result. The remote showed the watch tv and watch vhs activities but not watch dvd. So i went online to myharmony. Com and wrote a lengthy message describing the problem. I hit submit and got "support. Logitech. Com is down for maintenance" and the ever-popular "sorry for the inconvenience. " the text that i'd typed was gone, no way to get it back. So i'm returning the unit and not buying this brand again.

We had a sony digital remote that lasted about years and we loved it. Eventually, some of the panel sensors went out and sony no longer makes the remote. So after much research, i settled on this based on function needs and ratings. This one is very quirky with it's on/off functions. 90'% of the time it doesn't turn all the devices on/off at the same time, leaving you to either go thru the "help" process to troubleshoot and re-sync the devices or just do it manually. We did purchase another one for another room, it does the same thing but not as much.

Q. Smith, Hamburg says

I bought this remote one year ago and initially i thought it was great, but after 10 months it was not rechargeable anymore.

M. Rhonda, Baden-Wuerttemberg

Update: after a little more than one year the device has failed and i'm changing my review to two stars from five. I noticed there were several issues:. 1. From early on the batteries were not charging on first attempt and required multiple attempts to charge. 2. Even with charged batteries i would regularly (about every other day) the welcome screen on the remote and had to step through the on screen tutorial each time i wanted to use the device. 3. Now - even after i get through the on screen tutorial- the device does not operate my devices. . For this price the device should last more than 13 months. . Original review:. Very easy setup with the pc interface. Works all my devices without issue and even adds a mute button that my current receiver didn't easily do. The remote itself is a nice size (smaller than my current tv and cable remote) and very intuitive. It took literally minutes to figure out where everything was. I like the 'hot key' for "tv", "music" or "movie". Instead of turning on 4 components, 1 button starts all the appropriate devices for what you plan on doing. . So far the only complaint (and it's very minor) is the rechargeable batteries wear down a little faster than i'd prefer.

N. Ross, Rheinland-Pfalz says

I bought a new a/v device, and now the harmony remote will not connect to my pc so i cannot update the settings to add my new a/v device. The remote itself works fine, but it can no longer be updated at all. Every time i try and connect, it is simply not recognized by the software. I've tried 3 different usb cables as well as using the harmony software on a pc and a mac. Nothing works. The remote simply no longer communicates via usb, and so it is locked into the setup i programmed in 2 years ago. It cannot be changed. . This is my 2nd logitech harmony device, and the first one stopped functioning after about 2 years of use. This one lasted about 3 and a half years, although who knows when the usb port stopped functioning. I haven't tried to change the settings in 2 years, so it could have been dead any time in between.

F. Zelda, North Somerset

Original review: easy to set up. Adjusts quickly if devices don't respond as expected. Great remote! . . Update, 1-year later. Will not hold a charge, and button response is weak. Won't buy this again.
