Works great so far, had an issue with the leveling at third corner. Support was very helpful and got it fix within 3 min. All i had to do is rotate the right side cylinder by 360 degree counter clockwise. It move the z of that side up by couple mils. Lulzbot Taz 6 3d Printer Review (kt pr0041na)

I don t normally write product reviews, in fact, this is the first. I ve owned the lulzbot taz 6 since feb. Of this year. The printer and the company that makes it have earned my respect and i must give credit where credit is due. First, the printer. This thing is a rock. It works and works well. Yes, it is expensive but it is the best example of the old saying you get what you pay for that i ve ever seen. The printer can print a wide selection of filament type and has a large build size. It s made in the us and it carries a year warranty that is supported in the us. Second, the company. Let s face it 3d printing is a new technology. With new technologies come problems (with old technologies too for that matter). Anyone getting into 3d printing will, sooner or later, need help. My story of needing help started a few weeks ago. I normally use octoprint running on a raspberry pi to operate the printer over my home network. A few week ago, the pi stopped connecting to the printer. My laptop also wouldn t connect to the printer. Long story short, the usb port on the printer had gone out. Electronic devices fail that s simple a fact of life. I contacted the aleph objects (the company the makes lulzbot printers) tech support. To be honest, i expected the usual script reading first level support person that wouldn t know a 3d printer from a laser printer. To my surprise, the techs i dealt with actually knew lulzbot printers! what a relief to deal with knowledgeable people. After checking several possible causes that didn t fix the problem, they issued an rma number and i shipped it back to colorado (usa not china). A quick tip keep the box and shipping materials the printer came in. You ll need it if you have ship the printer in for warranty work. Aleph objects received the printer on a thursday and had it fixed, tested and picked up by ups the next saturday. Now that s what i call a fast turnaround! when i received and reassembled the printer, one of the stepper motors wasn t moving correctly. Back to tech support. They had me check the motor wiring connections to the main control board. Sure enough, i found a connector that was knocked loose in shipping. I reseated the connector and i was back in business. If you re looking for a top-notch 3d printer, you ve found it! yes, it is expensive but remember, you re not just buying a 3d printer. You re also getting the support of a company that, in my opinion, is setting the industry standard for customer support. By the way, to answer the question that i know someone will ask, no i don t work for aleph objects and have no connection to them other than being a satisfied customer. -E. Carolyn

  • I purchased this for a work project but also use it for personal use. I've never used a 3d printer before so didn't know what to expect. The guy i work with has used a number of different printers and explained all the complex procedures for leveling, cleaning bed preparation, dialing in temperatures and so on. I was concerned about the learning curve, but pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and started printing with no issues at all! i'm using sketchup to do all my 3d design and i've printed dozens of custom parts and had no issues, just click print and wait. Now that i have it, i'm finding lots of uses for it personally. I've printed custom usb power connectors, custom pieces for my halloween costume, custom cases for electronics projects, keychains for my kids and so on. It comes with a small sample of ngen filament which you use during setup and i just purchased a few more spools. My buddy has been super impressed by the print quality and ease of use as it self-levels and self-cleans before each print. This unit is pretty big and takes up most of a desk. That said, i'm glad i got this larger unit vs. The mini as i'm able to print some larger parts as well as batch print larger numbers of parts which are then waiting for me in the morning when i get up.
  • I can't say enough good things about the lulzbot taz 6. As a 3d printer enthusiast/hacker/printer i love the flexibility of this printer. I have gone ahead and mounted a dedicated raspberry pi 3 running octopi (octoprint. Org) and a raspberry pi camera v2 which is on a custom printed mount attached to the z-axis. I also added one lemonbest 2m resin flexible usb led lights strip ribbon 3528smd 120leds 5v waterproof cool white which provides ample and beautiful lighting to the printer. Attached is a photo of my taz 6 with my modifications. As well, here is a link to my imgur post which has more detailed information about my aftermarket modifications - . . Only other thing i want to touch on is the support - you won't get better support with any other 3d printer company (at least in my experience)!
  • This is a very well built machine, very sturdy, no short cuts taken, great firmware and huge build platform. But. It has yet to wow me. My wanhao duplicator i3 constantly out preforms this where print quality is concerned, i use pretty close to the same settings for both machines. The taz is a little more fickle than my wanhao and takes quite a bit more tlc in the settings window to get a good looking part. That being said, the only reason i bought a taz instead of an ultimaker, was for the dual extruder head that you can buy for the taz. Which takes quite a bit of setting up and getting used to. Now that ive had the pleasure of using this guy, if i had to go back and do it again, i would keep my wanhao and buy a formlabs resin printer instead of the taz or an ultimaker 3 if i really wanted to do multiple filaments.
  • Horrible product. Bought the taz5 straight from lulzbot in longmont since i am not too far away. Not even the professional we hired to come out and help us getting it working right could do anything. We tried everything. Different bed treatments, every type of filament imaginable, custom built enclosures, you name it. Nothing. It now serves as a giant paperweight in our r&d area. If i could give it 0 stars i would. Total money pit.
  • Terrible printer. Do not waste money on this. It is way overpriced for the print quality. The extra heads are also expensive and very low quality. I bought the lulzbot tax 6 and a flexydually, and the printer has yet to have a fully successful print after many hours of troubleshooting.

taz 6 3dLulzBot TAZ 6 3D Printer (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

I manage a series of printers at my college, the taz being one of 15. Between makerbot printers(z18, 5thgen, 2x) formslabs form1+ and several smaller more diy style printers. The taz has been by far the most reliable, easy to use, most accurate and dimensionally consistent 3d printer i have ever used. We order roughly 120 spools of filament at the beginning of each year to last 2 school semesters of printing. The taz gets 30 spools for itself. That is 30kg of filament a year. I can say without hesitation this printer is one of the best ever made. Lulzbot/aleph objects has outdone themselves and i cannot recommend any printer more. It is expensive. But for once you actually get what you pay for.

LulzBot Taulman Bridge Nylon 3D Printer Filament, 1 lb. Reel, 3 mm, Natural

Taulman's bridge" high strength nylon co-polymer was specifically engineered for 3d printing. Bridge was developed to address the war page/bed adhesion and moisture absorption issues that make printing taulman's other nylons more challenging. While still considered an advanced print material, best suited to experienced users, bridge is easier to work with than 618 and 645, with only a slight reduction in mechanical strength. Printed correctly it exhibits incredible strength, resiliency, and layer bonding when compared to abs, pla, or hips prints. Specifications: size 3mm round color prints from nearly transparent to bright white depending on thickness. Add color with most common clothing dyes consists of the purest form of a delta transition of nylon 6/9, nylon 6 and nylon 6t with a crystallinity optimization process in addition to post processing for maximum bonding during a thermal transition (3d printing). Chemically resistant to alcohols, resin and mek, oils, acetone, most all alkaline, most 2 part casting compounds.

LulzBot ABS 3D Printer Filament, 3 mm Diameter, 1 kg Spool, Blue

Abs, or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, is among the most popular 3d printing materials in the world because it is easy to print and strong. Abs is a durable plastic that can be used for making functional / end use 3d printed parts or prototyping. Are you wondering how strong abs really is? lulzbot 3d printers are built with parts printed with abs. This means we rely not only on lulzbot 3d printers to print reliably for our own production, but we rely on the abs parts themselves to last with heavy use. We operate a cluster of over 135 lulzbot 3d printers 24 hours a day, 5 days per week. In other words it's safe to say abs has passed the test. Abs printed parts can be sanded or smoothed using an expert technique with acetone. Advanced users have found that visible layer height on abs-printed items can be significantly reduced with an acetone vapor bath. This is a process in which the abs print is exposed to acetone vapor for a period of time. This technique allows users to have smooth and glossy abs parts.

This printer is amazing. After fighting a davinci and working with the limited monoprice select mini, i decided to up the game. It was worth it. This printer is a work horse. I over pressurized a nozzle and it snapped off. I contacted the company and they replaced it with no questions asked totally on their dime. It is a 3mm filament but i have found it prints many 1. 75 mm filament too but not quite all of them. The auto level is a really nice feature. Now i have to get the flexistruder and go with exotic filaments. I would grade this printer as a medium experience printer. It may be just a little much for the first printer as it is totally open source and the pei bed is incredible but can be damaged easily if not paying attention. . In short if you are reading this review then you are already thinking about getting it. Just pony up and do it. You won't be sorry.

I purchased this printer a few weeks ago and i love it! while in the beginning, it does take a few temperature and retraction tweaks (as do most printers), after figuring it all out, it works like a champ. I can start a print, go to bed, and be totally confident that it will be ready in the morning without fail. I have recently purchased the dual extruder toolhead and it seems to be mostly the same story, figuring everything out and then it's off to the races! i am extremely happy with this printer as would recommend it to anyone who can afford it! p. S. Their customer support is amazing, i feel like i'm texting a friend. They reach back very quickly and help you to understand and fix every aspect of your issue.

F. Franklin, Blackburn with Darwen says

I have been using a qidi printer for about 18 months now with good success. It was a cinch to setup and works great with essentially no issues. I have the need for much larger parts now so i decided to move up a grade or two. I chose the lutzbot taz 6 based on reviews here on online store. I am a little concerned by the open architecture. The qidi is totally enclosed and is quite stable with respect to ambient temperature variations. . The taz 6 showed up in 2 days. Online store is amazing. I had read in reviews that there have been some issues with squareness of the frame, so i checked that first. Mine was pretty close, but i was able to adjust it to near perfection. I followed the instructions included. It comes with 3 very nice instruction books. Much more than i am used to these days. When i tried to motor the extruded head around, the machine would make really bad noises when the head was moved up more than half way. I then noticed that the left and right height adjustments were off by an inch or more and the rods would bind and fight the steppers against each other. I figured out that by shutting off the steppers, i could manually turn the right side rod to bring the crossbars to about level. Now things moved over the full range with no issues. It was obvious that the completed unit had been tested prior to shipping. I can only assume that the misalignment came from shipping. . Next i loaded the included media and tried to print the rock frog thing. Time and time again, the auto leveling would fail on the second corner and give a "clean the nozzle" message. I cleaned and cleaned to no avail. I measured voltage from the head to the corner contacts and verified there was signal. After many hours of frustration, i watched the alignment operation up close and noticed that the head didn't quite touch the second corner. I put a dime on the pad and then it moved on to the 3rd corner. It turns out the alignment of the left and right z axis was just outside of operating range. I manually lowered the right side a little and it started working. . The point of this long winded explanation is to make prospective buyers aware of this and possibly other initial alignment issues. So far, the printer is making nice prints assuming they stick to the platen. I am having a lot more trouble getting things to stick than with the qidi. I'm sure i'll develop the necessary technique with practice. It is a little sensitive to drafts but fortunately i have it in a thermal and draft stable location. . The bottom line is that it is a 5 star printer but i had to down grade the rating due to setup problems. The design appears to be very robust once it is setup properly. Buyers be initially wary.

I purchased the taz 6 about 2 weeks ago and have been working with it quite regularly since then. Mostly i've been printing a couple of parts i'm prototyping though i've downloaded and printed a couple of parts from thingiverse as well. . I did take an excellent 3 hour class on 3d printing at a makerspace in columbus ohio before my purchase. After that i printed 2 parts on the makerspace's reprap printer. That was very helpful in getting me started. . I'm very happy with the printer thus far. Mostly i've printed with abs and that has gone quite well. I've only had 2 or 3 truly failed parts, primarily because of failed bed adhesion. At the fastest speed (which is useful for prototyping) the quality isn't great but i can tweak my design as i go. I'm about ready to print a production part at highest quality. . Setting up the printer was surprisingly easy. I was prepared for it to take a couple of hours to install the bed, attach the cabling, etc. It took me at most an hour. The instructions were clear and well illustrated. However, after setting it up and running initial tests i noticed that during the bed leveling process at the beginning of each run, the print head was striking the side of the right front pad rather than floating over it and then tapping down on it. I deduced that the printer frame was out of square and when i looked closely i could see it was. I found very clear squaring instructions on the web site ( . ). . Since squaring the frame requires you to remove the print bed, my recommendation would be to check that the frame is square before you install the print bed right from the start. Checking is easy. You just take a tape measure and (following the instructions on the frame squaring page) measure the two diagnonals of the frame, front and back. They should be pretty much equal. Mine were not, they were more than 5/8" off. It took me an extra 45 minutes of tweaking with a hex wrench (supplied) and the tape measure to bring it within 1/16". Since then i don't have that problem with the print head striking the leveling pad. . I've only had one other problem with the printer so far and it was entirely self-generated. When downloading cura profiles for your filament, be sure to download the taz 6 profiles and not the taz 5 profiles. Things don't work well with the wrong profiles (duh). Among other things, the taz files don't contain code for bed leveling. . One other thing i've noticed. The bed temperature seems to drop off from the center to the edge of the bed. When i've printed an object close to the edge i've had adhesion problems. So now i'm printing centered on the bed each time. . I have also found the octoprint software running on a raspberry pi really helpful. I'm running a job right now in the basement and watching live video of the run as i type this at my desk. I use cura on the desktop to create a gcode file and then use octoprint to upload it to the pi from which it runs. I don't need to mess around with a sd card or a dedicated pc. . Finally, my one contribution to the greater world of 3d printing. My wife's cake icing offset spatula turned out to be a fantastic tool for removing items from the bed. She wanted hers back so i bought my own. The ateco spatula has a great thin blade. ( ateco 4. 25 by 0. 75-inch small sized blade ultra spatula )use another tool to gently loosen a corner and then begin to slide the spatula beneath the print. Works like a charm!

R. Wimbish, Nebraska says

This is a huge step up from my first printer which was a flashforge creator. The printer has a huge build print and love love love the auto leveling feature. Though it may take some time getting use to the 2 minute wait period before starting print but you never have to worry about bed leveling ever again. As you can see in the pictures that i've uploaded you do get some nice set of tools and some great sampling materials though i haven't tried any of those yet. . Now comes the issues that i have with the printer:. While you can turn the wheel to increase or decrease the speed while an object is already printing, i've gotten layer shifting when increasing the speed past 100% (default). I'm not sure if the y-axis drive is overheating and resetting or what. I've check all the mechanical issues that may associate with layer shifting but there is not anything mechanical wrong with the machine. Secondly, when using 3mm filament, i constantly get material grinding. I'm not if my retraction setting is correct or that i'm tensioning the filament grip too tight. I've yet to figure out the problem to that which leads me to my huge advantage that no ones seems to be writing which was important to me. . You can use 1. 75 mm filament! . I was bummed before purchasing this because i use 1. 75 mm filament on my flashforge and i'd hate to have to buy over all the filament colors in 3 mm, all you have to do is changed the filament diameter in the cura software you'll get for this machine and that's it! works great and i get no filament grinding. . Final note. You may have noticed that i'm not a verified purchaser for this printer but what happened was that when i was ready to checkout this on the cart, i saw that you have to pay $175 more for sales tax cause i'm in miami! so what i did was i purchased this from the lulzbot site and voila no sales tax was added.

I. Anonymous, Liverpool

very happy with this purchase. Okay let me start with the basics: the setup is incredibly easy; the instructions and assembly are so well prepared that i was able to get this thing up and running within 10 minutes out of the box. They are clearly going for points here and they deserve it. The coolest feature of the printer is its startup sequence; it automatically gauges the bed's plane so that z 0 is calibrated at each print. Oh yea, and then. It cleans the print head for you! seriously, super convenient. . Pros: the machine itself is fine piece of engineering - very well put together. I'm especially fond of all the printed parts and how much of the tool head is replaceable/up-gradable in typical rep-rap fashion (it's also a piece of cake to remove/swap). I almost exclusively do rapid prototyping of mechanical parts and upgraded to this machine because of these important qualities: large build volume, fine layer heights, diverse material support, fast travel speeds and smooth acceleration/deceleration. . Cons: the idler retainer mechanism that tensions the filament as it is fed into the extruder takes some getting used to. It's definitely not the easiest mechanism to operate with your hand(s) when it comes to changing filaments; it's sturdy but not as simple as others - i'm sure you'll be able to replace it with an alternative mechanism soon if you really hate it. The only other issues i had was that the sd-card that came with the package was not formatted properly and could not be read by the glcd (just had to copy the contents to my laptop, reformat it, and copy back over - still pretty lame) and then of course the glcd's pot isn't properly calibrated in firmware so the tactile feedback from turning the dial doesn't have a 1-to-1 correspondence with how many menu items get scrolled. Kinda annoying but this just needs some tweaking in the marlin source code.

B. Marguerite, Rutland says

Up and running in an hour. The lt6 has a tendency to snap off pla filament during autoleveling, as in 3/4 times you will have to reset a pla print. If you value your time, use something softer like ngen.

P. Anderson, Tasmania

I use this product at my work almost everyday. This printer is very reliable, and the included software 'cura lulzbot edition' is great for both beginners and experts as it allows for tinkering. I have left prints running on this machine for more than 10 hours with no issues. The tech support is great too. I once had an issue where the print was stopping at 1" height consistently, but after describing to issue to the representative, he immediately guess it might be due to thermal creep, as i was setting my print temperature a tad higher than necessary. He suggested reducing extrusion temperature by 10 degrees, and everything worked great since.

V. Candy, Kansas says

*edit*. I originally wrote this review in march. It's now may. And i would simply say that i am twice as satisfied now as i was then. I have run a wider range of materials. I have run a wider range of complex prints. I am enamored with this machine. *end edit*. . First ever online store review here. . Simply a gorgeous machine. I own a plastics company. I know machines and plastic, and am really a newcomer to 3d printing. I know enough about machinery to know good machines from bad. This is an exceptional machine. While it's still marketed in the 'maker' or intermediate category, unlike other "ready-to-go-out-of-the-box' competitors in that category, it has the power to reach well into the 'industrial/production' category. And yet, still maintains the open-source/maker flexibility. But again, you really don't have to know a dang thing about 3d printing (other than the limitations of 3d printing), to make this thing work. . There's plenty of video and other reviews that go through specifics of what it comes with/unboxing/sample prints/etc. They're better than what i can do. Go read/watch them. . I've been running for 2 days straight. Parts of varying complexity and materials of varying complexity. Not one failed print. Heck, not even a print that i wasn't very happy with the end result. Not one complaint. And as noted, i'm a relative noob. Not one hint of some even minor troublesome issue on the horizon. My experience is coming from a couple months on a sub-$200 diy kit-type printer. The difference is beyond night and day. . The concept, design, and execution of everything about this machine is fantastic. Software integration, documentation, packaging. I just simply haven't run into an obstacle. I've tried to find something. Event a theoretical "what if" obstacle. And about the only thing i can think of is what happens if i accidentally slice up the material covering the print bed. And that's only because i haven't looked at all the documentation. It is ample. Let alone what appears to be vast online resources. . Bottom line. If you've got the cash and the desire. (and have an understanding of and the limitations of fused filament tech). This machine will meet expectations. It's far exceeded mine and will likely exceed yours. I have not one single reservation on the money i spent. . Speed: faster than i thought. I'm basing this off my virtual 'baseline' of time/speed. As 'speed' is obviously a very controllable variable. Quality: a hair better than my expectations, again going off my 'virtual baseline' of quality based on variables. Movement: smooth, controlled, it looks almost effortless. Noise: quieter than i thought. You've got lots of fans and steppers. It's going to make some noise. You can't avoid that. What they've done here is made sure the only noise is coming from the steppers and fans. The bearings, bushings, etc. No noise from them. The only sounds are coming from motors. Documentation: beyond excellent

Z. Rhonda, Dorset

The printer worked well for a couple of days. Now after the third day, the printer stopped traveling at all (xyz axis all stopped mid print and the material just continued to ooze). I notice that when other users have a problem, this is the problem they have. So after searching for user comments and solutions, you discover that cura (the slicing software) and the printer don't always work well together and pausing the print job or cancelling the print job is a royal pain in the rear. I wish that the manufacturer would prominently publish the work around for this issue instead of making the customer hunt for solutions if this is such a common glitch.

T. Widmer, Southwark says

It's pretty expensive, but i love it! . I am coming from a davinci xyz 1. 0, and man is that thing a load of crap compared to this! . I love the auto calibrating feature, which calibrates before every print. All i do is hit print, and it just works. Like anything though, you have to play around with printing things different ways to get desired results, but being able to just print without hassle makes things much easier to start over. I also love that many of the parts of this machine are 3d printed, which is very cool, and it makes it feel like 3d printing is finally getting to be legit.

O. Guest, Australian Capital Territory

I bought mine from microcenter in june. After a miserable experience in 3d printing a few years ago, i decided this go around i wanted one that just worked. I originally was interested in the mini but i convinced myself that paying twice as much would be worth it. Set up was easy - i had it up and going and printing the rocktopus in about 15 minutes. Since then, i have put 2 spools of pla and a spool of hips through it. My longest print was 58 hours and i've done a few more that range from 16-48 hours and it has yet to let me down. While maybe not optimum, the built in profiles work reliably and of course they can be tweaked in advanced settings. The supplied version of cura is a little dated, but they are working on a 2. 0 version which is in beta right now. The large print volume makes it an excellent choice for props and costume pieces. You can print tethered or from an sd card. If you want to do wi-fi, you can always attach a rasberry pi and run octoprint. The only real negative is the price.

N. Whiteman, North East Lincolnshire says

Great printer, would recommend. Took about 2 hours to unbox and get the first print done but i had to modify the rocktopus because texas sucks.

A. Gloria, Bedfordshire says

Just updating my review. To say that luzbot the 3d printer continues to be consistently dependable, productive and amazing! . But what continues to have an ever increasing value to me is their support team. Their advice has been 100% spot on, and resolved any questions or issues 100% of the time. I've called for just tips at the oddest times of night, and someone picks up my call right away and takes care of whatever i need. Obviously some support staff are more experienced than others, but you'll never know who, because the team as a whole has been so well versed in an incredibly wide scope of knowledge base. I really have not had any mechanical difficulties, mostly just tuning up my understanding how to get the best results. . The best guaranteed 3d printing experience is lulzbot, . Quality engineered, consistent performance and quality service. . I own a taz 5. And i have been using it for over a year. An unbelievably positive experience. I have been professionally creating three dimensional drawings and designed systems since the 80's. But not long ago i was an absolute beginner to 3d printing. So besides the fact that this machine:. 1) is easy to use right from the start. 2) constructed at an industrial level (tough & solid! ). 3) a workhorse. I run this machine at least 8 hours every day, and have completed very large and complex prints that took over 24 hrs. 4) consistent. I have at the very least, a 95% success rate with my prints. 5) use a wide range of materials (i work mostly with petg and polycarbonate). 6) very easy to make adjustments or swap out parts. . . Besides all this . It's the organization, . Their support team, and their total commitment to stand behind the quality of their product. Imagine a technical support team, available 24/7, you can get someone on the phone every time, each person with a superb command of not just the machine, but all the various processes and questions beginners and more advanced persons might have. Their technical support is actually enthusiastic to resolve questions and even anticipate tips you will need to know next! . . The point being, a beginner hobbyist can start with this machine, and have fun the very first day. But a professional, like a design engineer can take this learning curve up very fast, and will continue to appreciate and use the taz as their machine of choice. . I am sure there are many more reviews like mine, who just "gush" almost ridiculously over lulzbot and the taz. Don't let that throw you. There's a good reason why. Lulzbot has built a loyal customer base by providing without a doubt the best customer support i have ever seen, and in my opinion an "elegantly" engineered piece of technology and engineering. . For the record, i bought a 3d printer first somewhere else, for twice the price of a taz. It was a disaster. The problems were so critical i actually got my money back. So price does not equal quality. . If you know absolutely nothing about 3d printing and want to get into it, this is the only place to go. If you are a professional and need consistent performance and production, you'll want to have this product and work with this organization.

J. Ophelia, Massachusetts

This printer is almost ready out of the box! the manuals are written in such a manner that anybody can understand. The documentation of the quality check and calibration prior to shipping is just another indicator this company ensures you are getting a working unit. The bag with the tools is an awesome extra that all other 3d makers should make standard. I should have done my homework and bought this instead of first going with a makerbot which after two days of trying to get to work returned and got the lulzbot taz 6.

W. Elida, New Jersey says

Great printer. I've had it for a week and it's been running non stop printing batches of my items. . The green filament that comes with is enough to print the rocktopus as well as some green accent parts for the lcd knob, wiper, filament holder and more. . The auto leveling saves a lot of time. Combined with cura, you can essential print right outside the box. I'm currently printing what cura said to be a 24 hour job. That's not correct. 22:44 minutes at 62. 2 % is where i'm at now. That is ok, just don't schedule your life around it. . Looking forward to printing other things once my project completes.

Y. Russell, Wolverhampton

Setup a snap, no bed leveling, printed the verification print with supplied filament. Works beautifully. The 4 star rating will be 5 supply the document matches the updated cura print software instructions in the operations manual. . Printing gifts for grand kids. All went very well. Printed gift card holders with decorative covers, whistles for kids, several complex prints including a maze cylinder with good results. . Have been using printer for 2 weeks before christmas, mostly with pla filament with great results. Have ordered several other filaments abs, nylon, etc. Will report any new results.

K. Matherly, Kingston upon Thames says

This is an amazing printer, it does everything and more. It's super easy to use and set up and comes with crystal clear instructions and resources on how to make and print your own objects. Not only is this probably one of the best printers on the market, it was relatively cheaper among it's competitors. The huge build platform has allowed me to create amazing things ranging from hardware and devices to cosplay props and more. The detail i can get on an object is purely amazing and most of the time i don't have to spend any time cleaning up the object. . While some objects are better split, most things print as is with maybe an orientation tweak in cura. Most all the parts themselves are 3d printed out of abs so you can easily print custom or replacement parts for it and i've done a few mods myself such as a filament guide from my filament dry box. One thing i was surprised about was how quiet she operates. I sleep in the opposite end of the room its in and can sleep peacefully with it singing along in the background. . On top of everything else the customer service is unparalleled. I had minor issues and they got back to me same day, sometimes within a few hours. They are truly there to ensure you have the best experience with your lulzbot printer as possible whether you are a hobbyist or a professional, or even somewhere in between. They work with you instead of giving blind pre-written responses. Thanks lulzbot! . . Overall i've had a great experience and we'll probably end up with another for our 3d printing business after we've taken off a bit. . Edit: looking back, i still would pick the same printer. I've had it for a while now and it's never let me down. Neither has aleph objects who provides constant amazing support and care of service.

. Nancy, Norfolk

It worked out of the box! if you were to buy other filaments not provided by lulzbot themselves, just use the associated filament listed in cura. The settings are all there - but one note, you will have to go into expert setting to turn off fans manually after choosing abs settings. . Other than that, minor tuning for some prints, but works like a charm! well worth the punch in the wallet gut. . Happy printing!

. Hadley, Montana says

So easy to use for a beginner! (i am a beginner), my taz 6 makes beautiful prints right out of the box, and when i've called lulzbot with my beginners questions several times, the customer service is great. I am sooo impressed and happy with my lulzbot taz 6 3d printer. After a terrible experience with the flashforge creator pro, which the wiring harness caught fire during a print. I only had it for a month. Online store refunded my purchase price and i decided to spent a few bucks more for a made in the usa lulzbot taz 6 3d printer. I cannot say enough good things about it. As you can tell, i'm just a private guy home-hobbyist who wants to learn some 3d modeling and have a reliable 3d printer to print my creations. I've had my new lulzbot taz 6 3d printer for about a month and have given it the acid test as they say. It runs the calibration tests that i've run on it flawlessly. Both benchy and the cube. What can i say except that it is a beautiful, sturdily built 3d printer, made in america by american workers. The only down side for me is that it doesn't take 1. 75mm filament and it doesn't have a . 20 tip. Yet. I'm told that these things are coming soon,

. Reed, Niedersachsen

I love this machine, it is very fun to print with especially with all the different tool heads you can attach. One of the tool heads has a 1. 2m nozzle, thats pretty fun and fast. Only thing i don't like is that the build plate is so good at sticking i sometimes feel like i'm going to damage the machine removing prints, better then not sticking to the build plate for sure, and this thing is a beast! you could probably build a whole helmet in one build. I have had lots of fun with it so far without any problems. Knock on wood!

. Alberta, Iowa says

Purchased this printer during prime day ($500 off). Did have some trouble at first, would not calibrate, one of the ground screws was a little lose. After tightening the screw it calibrates every time. Support is great, relied back within an hour. This is my fourth printer, the others are makergear m2, robo3d and a delta printer. I have the taz connected to octoprint which works great. The quality is closer to the makergear and prints stick to the bed with no hair spray. The large bed is great, i printed a posting ruler over a foot long. I say if you are into 3d printing this is a great printer to have.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

Y. Rose, Lewisham says

This is not okay. You're taking away valuable artistic skills from children and putting them inside a little black box. Most people under 15 don't even know what wood-carving is or how it's done. More importantly, they don't know how to do it themselves. 3-d printing just adds more plastic to an already overfilled junkyard of a planet. . Look for reusable resources and use those.

Q. Anonymous, Dudley

This product has been a massive failure for me, and the support has been miserable. The auto-level feature takes a long time, and fails constantly telling me to clean the nozzle, and still doesn't work after. The z-axis has been very flaky, seemingly from a faulty heat-sink (that their support team seems to know about? ), and filament jams in the extruder due to heat creep (which they also seem to know about, as they told me to use a bigger fan). Most recently it seems to have blown a fuse mid-print, and i am sick of dealing with this headache of a machine. . Highly recommend buying something else! . . Specifically, 2 or 3 prusa i3 machines for the same $. The original i3 has performed flawlessly for me for 2 years with minimal maintenance and tuning. In fact, my high school students have built it twice and each time it was easy to setup and tune.

B. Williams, Cornwall says

i hardly ever write reviews on online store, but i feel the consumer needs to be aware of a lulzbot product defect. . I received my taz6 on august 15, 2016. The printer was unboxed and i ran the test print which came out just fine. I then started printing different items for the next 6 weeks without any issues. Then the other night an awful sound starting coming from the z-axis and the printer would not calibrate. I thought it may be a fluke, so tried again and the printer started right up. I went to check on my print after a few minutes and saw the. Z-axis failed and drove the extruder into the heat bed. This caused a huge bubble right in the center of the heat bed. I contacted lulzbot customer service via phone and spoke to a very rude gentleman. He informed me that the z-axis just need manually adjusted and it would be just fine and hung up. He could have cared less about the issue. . I then sent pics and videos to the lulzbot tech email and after communicating back and forth they came to the conclusion that the heat sink has failed on the z-axis. Here is the exact text from his email stating that the heatsinks are faulty. . Text from service rep. "the reason being is that we've tested the cooling properties of the heatsink and found that it does not provide adequate cooling in the larger control box on the taz 6 (it was required in previous models but the taz 6 has much better cooling inside the control box) and actually traps heat, and secondly we've had a recent run of heatsinks with faulty adhesive making it a double-edged sword. We actually no longer install them in production of taz 6 for these reasons". . Since the heatsink failed this is causing the driver to go bad and let's not forget this printer in only 6 weeks old. Now, i have to ship the printer back. I bought this printer to start a business and things need to be printed for customers this week. . I would have thought lulzbot would have their act together since this is there 6th rendition of the printer. Plus, at a price tag of $2, 500 you would expect a higher standard of quality, not the quality of a cheap cloned knockoff. . Lastly, this is not a one-off incident. Other people have written reviews of the heatsink failing on the z axis. I know my recommendation probably means nothing to anybody but i would strongly advise not to purchase from lulzbot.

N. Betty, Sheffield

Bought one of these things. Came to me with the z offset out of sync, tech support was wonderful and great getting back in order. Then the z kept slipping. Went through hell troubleshooting this thing, prints turning out like crap, and eventually to dismantle, reframe and check literally everything on the machine. There are z issues with this thing, and after talked to tech support i've now had to send this thing in. There is a heat sink that fell off the z driver, the z axis on the 2 steppers will not stay in sync at all. This seems to be a running issue with the taz 6 here, and support said they have improved some process in newer builds but have not assured to what the z-binding issue actually is. I've gone through quite a few steps to get this resolved on my own, so will update again if there is a solid fix and when i receive the printer back. I am now down a printer, and sales didn't treat me so well, when i wanted to buy a second printer and just requested a small discount for the inconvenience and wouldn't budge at all, even though i'm evaluating for my business and looking to purchase more in the future. So far i'm not too thrilled having to send this back in at this point, and hopefully some resolution comes publicly to users having the same issues.

D. Smith, Indiana says

After 5 printer hours and several changes of filament, the printer head became clogged. Technical support has a list of things a user can try to un-plug the head. None of them worked, requiring me to take the head off and send it in for warranty? repair (lesson save the shipping boxes for the length of the warranty). This company is not gracious like in "we will ship you a head to get you going again while we investigate why the new head clogged so early". So my $2500 is gone, i spent 4 hours trying to get the printer head working, and a yet undetermined number of days wait for my printer hear to come back. I hope i didn't make a mistake going with lulzbot. The cura special edition for taz 6 on a mac os is very buggy. Tech support passes it on apple. Lulzbot is not the owner of cura and most probably wishes the owner would fix more of the software issues. Just be prepared to open and exit the software (cura) for each job, just to be sure the buffers are empty and taz is working with new g-code.

X. Kristen, District of Columbia

Waste of effort. Unable to clean nozzle message won't go away.

F. Jacqueline, Picardie says

Purchased my 1st lulzbot yesterday. I was excited to have a "much higher quality printer"  well it's absolute garbage and heading back to the store today.   customer service was good to actually have a human answer the phone. But heat sink fan broken out of the box, clogged 5 minutes into the "test print", took a miracle to get it unclogged, clogged again 5 minutes into print.   the idle arm mechanism feels cheap when manipulation and i have concerns it will break with constant use. Very disappointed in this "cadillac" of desktop printer.

T. Susana, Niedersachsen

Folks, i rarely write reviews. I write reviews when i am really please with a product and when i am really disappointed. . I have bought and love the mini lulzbot 3 d printers. We have 5 f them. I have bought three of the lulzbot 6 and returned two and i am waiting to return the third printer. The tech support folks who are great, said they were having manufacturing issues with these printers. One came to me dead. Another taz 6 printer would not level and the third worked for three weeks and now does not move along the z axis. Why i am waiting to send i t back? i have to buy a $75. 00 box because the original box was mistakenly throw out. I do not appreciate having to pay for this box and acting as quality engineer for this product. I think you would be smart to wait to buy until these issues are worked out.

V. Miller, Leeds says

Update:. Lulzbot is refusing to send me a new pei sheet. The sent me a new surface because my old one died. I print one time on their surface following the specs the specified on their website for ngen colorfabb and even after one object printed the pei surface is bubbling. They claim it is a part removal problem. Yeah it is a part removal problem because something is not right with the adhesive or the specs are wrong. The pei surface on my old dead print surface was perfect. Down graded to 2 starts. . I am giving this printer 3 stars (replaced). First i have had it 11 months. It is my first printer so i have no comparisons with other 3d printers. There are features i like. The print quality is descent for high resolution prints. I am doing more rapid prototyping where high resolution is not a real requirement. So i will leave it to others to put in more details. I will amend my review when i do perform higher resolution prints. Pros:. A very good size print surface. Cura is a good piece of software. It handles my freecad objects very well. Speed is reasonable. Self calibrating is anice feature. Just make sure that your print head is level. The various print heads that they have introduced are really good. You can do flex filament and abs at the same time. . Cons:. I want large spools of filament for long prints. The metallic filaments are always sold out. I have had a good deal of technical support issues with my particular unit. . Sort ofs (i. E. Sort of good and sort of bad):. Tech support: very good. Always responding rapidly by email. I did call once and it was immediately handled. This is a sort of because well i have had to use it a good deal more than i would like. . Pei surface is a nice print surface in general. I did have an issue with the object adhering to the print surface. I was using ngen colorfabb filament and used a glue stick. Still very hard to get the object to release from the print surface. Eventually one object tore the pei sheet and i had to get a new for $45. That surface was wonderful and object came right off of it. Then the heating element went out on the print surface which made that nice new pei sheet kind of worthless. Got an entirely new print surface (used the 1yr warranty there). The pei sheet on that surface would not let anything stick to it. It was super slick. Following their advice i made a alcohol/water mixture (10%/90%) and sprayed down the surface and sanded with 2000 grit sand paper vigorously several times and the surface started sticking. However, i got the new surface a few weeks ago right before i left for vacation. After sanding, i ran a few 12 hour long prints and now my pei sheet is starting to bubble. . The only other issue that i have had was that after sanding. I got tripped up on a loose y-axis belt (it moves the print surface). The user manual was really good at telling me what to do however there were no diagrams in it. Instead, the illustrations were on their website but not at an easy to find location. There should be a link on their page or in the documentation that takes you to the step by step illustrated details of performing the repair.

I. Teresa, Nottinghamshire

I ordered the device, set it up, printed a test print, then on my first print the print head stops moving on the z axis. I submitted a support request and i'll follow up with the results but this is a pretty disappointing start.

P. Hayward, Rhode Island says

This product was shipped with a design issue that caused the print head to fail on the first use. This was a big disappointment. The customer service knew about the issue, but required me to return the broken piece before a new one was mailed out. I needed the printer for my classroom, so i just ordered and paid for a new head. Lulzbot then reimbursed me when the old head was returned. Sadly, about 100 prints and 6 months later it failed again. Company would not warranty the print head. Was told that part of the innovation of 3-d printing is supporting the development. The machine has sat unused since september. I will not longer support lulzbot's development. . I must be honest. The taz6 was the best of four printers ($1500-$2500) range machines. Just wish they had better support for their product.

L. Colleen, Halton

I have had this product for over 6 months now and can definitely recommend that you don't buy the hype. This 3d printer is definitely overpriced and it under delivers. If you plan to print with abs, it's important that you maintain a constant temperature. With a heated based plate, the material will begin to demonstrate layer cracking due to uneven cooling during the print process; especially with larger objects. I bought the enclosure but that didn't help with this problem. Note that i use lulzbot pla ngen filament and configure the slicer as directed by lulzbot so it's definitely the printer not the filament or the config. I have figured a way around the problem by basically printing a skirt around my object so that it provides a little insulation. The skirt will separate and warp but the enclosed object is spared and comes out looking good. While this works well as a workaround, it's wasteful and adds more time to the print job. . For the same or less in price, i recommend going with another 3d printer that comes with an enclosure and is heat regulated and with dual extruders. I definitely have buyer's remorse. I was new to 3d printing and didn't know any better. . I am giving lulzbot 2 stars for their customer support otherwise would be lower.

M. Megan, Australian Capital Territory says

Horrible. Price does not match perfomance, . First let me just say that this is not my first 3d printer. I have owned several 3d printers over the past four years. I also print professionally for my consulting business that has to do with aerospace engineering. My main work horses for my company are flashforge creator pro printers. They work around the clock 24/7 with only minor needs for leveling the build platform and refilling the filament. . I bought a taz 6 with the expectation that i was going to get another work horse like flashforge. Unfortunately that was far from the truth. The taz 6 is a product "in development" at best. It is by no means a device to be used to run a business or to get reliable and repeatable printing 24/7 like the flash forge. . Here are some of the problems that i encountered. The unit failed several times to auto level. It took several phone calls to customer support to address the issue. The initial prints showed problems with z axis. Additional phone calls to customer support indicated that the z-axis had alignmnet issues. According the customer support they stated that the z axis gets damaged and/or shifted during shipping and requires recalibration by the end-user. Recalibration/realignmnet means that you have to actually take apart some the support pillars and performer realignment. . Bed adhesion was another issue. The heated bed showed problems with uniform heating across the entire bed surface. Sme parts of the bed are hotter than others. I also apparently had a failed temperature sensor which led to all kinds of other issues which again required customer support involvement. . After all that was addressed print quality was very unreliable with had bad repeatability. At a price tag of $2, 500 i expected a more professional and robust machine. The taz 6 is not that. . I have also bought a pursa i3 mark to back in december as a kit just for fun and found it to be printing a hundred times more reliably and better than the $2, 500 taz 6. And the prusa cost $750. . As for comparison to the creator pro there was none. Do you want to know how many phone calls to customer support i've made to creator pro since i first bought the printers? zero. I have had no issues whatsoever after thousands and thousands of hours of printing with a creator pro. And for a price tag of $800 that's pretty amazing. So at the end of the day i shipped my $2, 500 "development kit" back to online store and got a refund. I think lulzbot does a diservice to its customers by not clearly identifying that this is a development kit it not a production workhorse type 3d printer as the want you to belive. . In my opinion it is not for professional use i would not even recommend it for amature use. . It's more of a learning tool to educate students as to how 3d printer works and continue to tweak it and modify it as a learning tool. If people here want a reliable printing machine that can dish out hundreds and hundreds of hours of reliable 3d prints they need to look elsewhere. I cannot help but continue to recommend the flashforge creator over and over again. . I would have liked to have owned a newer machine but it seems that there's nothing out there in the market currently that is more reliable than flashforge for now for professional work. I am hoping 2017 will change this. . My wishlist would be:. . 1. Dual extruders (or multi extruder). 2. Enclosure (a must ! ). 3. 50 micron / 400mm speed. 4. Flexion style head for specialized filaments and nylon. 5. Open format. 6. Wifi, sd and usb interface. 7. Price less than $1500.

S. Diana, Sachsen

Save your money! i had a monoprice 3d printer that i sold for this over priced printer. Wish i had not! other than the self leveling bed and bigger build plate. Print quality is crap compared to my old printer. Can not print from usb . I called customer service two times. First guy was a jerk off! second person was better. But that is when he told me to print from memory card. ? ok. It helped. But still prints are not as good as the monoprice. The lulzbot 6 maybe a little faster. But it is not worth forking over $2, 500. 00 bucks that is the truth. For $350. 00 or so you can get a pretty good printer. Just trying help the next person not blow there hard earned money. No, i am not a pro at 3d printing. But i cant even print some of my other models that i did with the old printer. I tried slicing them several different ways. Nope! i know what is worth it and what is not. Also, if you do buy this. You must use glue stick on every print. Trust me. It will save you a bunch of frustration.

H. Peggy, Hessen says

I had a taz 6 and had a lot of feed problems, returned it for a full refund. I regularly use a lulzbot mini at work it completes 98% of prints, the taz 6 completed 5%, i was seriously disappointed.
