Review for leaf tv antenna indoor mile range

Price was $29.95. I normally wait a few weeks at the very least before writing reviews on products, but i received my mohu leaf yesterday and can't wait to share the great experience that i have had with it. . First, let me say a little bit about my location and the signal strength in my area. I live in northern nj about 13 miles west of new york city. I used tvfool. Com to find out a bit of information about how close the broadcasting towers are to my location and in which direction the stations come from. According to that site, my location is under 20 miles from over 30 different station broadcasts and the majority of the signals come from the south east (more east than south). I used google maps to look up my house and find out which windows in my house face that direction, and i'm fortunate to have a window right in my living room that we don't use (has a blackout curtain over it) that was perfect for mounting this antenna. . But before i mounted it to my window, i decided to try it just on the wall next to my tv. Mind you, i am in an old house with thick brick walls (even internally) and all windows are blocked by blackout curtains and blinds. Even with those limitations the leaf picked up 51 - yes, 51 - stations. The signal strength was moderate on the stations. I then ran the leaf via a 25' cable to the window i mentioned above and got 54 stations almost all of which had 100% signal strength. . I then decided to experiment with whether this non-amplified tiny antenna would have the ability to power two televisions with a 25' cable running to the splitter and then about another 20' of cable running from the splitter to each tv. Unbelievably, it can. Tv 1 receives 54 stations with no degradation in quality due to the splitter, and tv 2 picked up 51 stations with 100% signal strength on all of the important ones (abc, nbc, cbs, fox, pbs, ion, bbc and a handful of other ny stations). . With that experiment over, the only hard work left was running the cabling in a way that was neat and tidy, and i now have perfect television in two rooms with this amazing, unpowered antenna. Given the signal strength in my area i expected to get good reception (i got 50 stations with a coat hanger, albeit a weak signal), but the fact that this thing can run two tvs on a splitter with close to 50' of cable to each television as well as it does far and away exceeds my expectations. . I can't speak for everybody's situation, but i can wholeheartedly recommend this product to anybody in or near a metro area with broadcast signals coming from within the 35 mile radius this antenna is quoted for. But even if you aren't in a metro area, i would not hesitate to give this antenna a try. It is truly remarkable, and hats-off to mohu for creating it and for helping people get away from the ridiculous cable companies.

Preface

I just finished reading lots of the 1 star reviews. To them, my response is you get what you pay for. This item does exactly what it says it will do. This antenna is perfect if you live within range of a large city where lots of channels are being broadcast over the air. I live 16 miles or so outside jacksonville, fl and the antenna works great. . I first put it flat against the back of my black tv. It blends in and is un-noticeable. I did have to move it occasionally for reception since being so close to the tv interfered with its reception. . I just recently added a 7 foot coax to it using standard male-to-male connector. I ran the wire through a cable run up the corner of my wall and placed the antenna (white side out) on a white bookshelf i have that is about 7 feet off the ground. I receive over 20 channels and the hd ones are beautiful. . But you get what you pay for. If the weather is poor, the reception isn't as good. I am sure a more expensive antenna would get you more channels, and an amplified one would help as well, but it is all about what you are looking for. This one works as advertised. . My brother-in-law placed this way up high in his attic and ran the cable through the house. He gets even better reception and even more channels. Great for the price. . Oh, and some people complained about hanging it. Simple hook and loop velcro works, or the 3m removable sticky back tape that holds their hooks on works as well. This antenna seemed too good to be true in all of the descriptions and excellent reviews that customers have given about it. As an information technology professional, i was afraid that if i bought one, it would not live up to the praise that it was given. I went ahead and bought one in my effort to avoid paying for cable. . I am very happy to say that it definitely lives up to all of the hype. I attached the antenna to the wall behind the television using the provided pins and connected the coax cable that is also provided. After connecting the unit, i switched my television to antenna mode and scanned for channels. To my surprise i got eighteen channels, most of which are in high definition. A few of the lesser known channels are not always as clear as i would like them to be, but that is no problem at all. . I plan on moving the antenna closer to, or on to, the patio door as well as maybe buy an inline amplifier to try to get more channels or make the few not perfect ones clearer. I would definitely recommend the mohu leaf to anyone looking to cut the cost of cable out of their budget. For it's cheap, one time cost, it can not be beat! -X. Weber

PROS
  • This antenna works quite well and blends into the wall perfectly. . However, there are still parts of my house that get a weak signal, and nothing this antenna does will let it get reception there. This isn't necessarily the antenna's fault, but be sure to check where you are planning to set up the antenna as soon as it arrives. That way, if it turns out you can't get a signal, at least you can return it and get your money back. . A couple solutions for weak signal:. - some more expensive antennas are in fact better at receiving weak signals. - you could use a long coaxial cable to put the antenna in a spot that gets good reception. . Where i have mine, it works perfectly and picks up both sd and hd channels. Definitely worth buying!
  • I have this antenna for a month now. Overall, it performs very well. I have the the antenna on the back of a tv stand on the 1st floorand and it can pick up almost all of the stations except cbs(channel 2) unless i set the antenna at a specific location. I am at the chicago far north suburb, and it is notorious difficult to pick up the cbs 2 (broadcast through vhf) as far as my internet research indicates. . To get cbs 2, you will need your antenna to face south and it shall not have much blocking structure along the direction (or at least one opening that leads to a window or entrance door facing south if you are on the first floor). You need to adjust the location of the antenna slowly (wait 3 to 5 seconds before you move it to another location) when you try to find cbs 2. It is easier to get the signal on the second floor but you still need it to face south. . In conclusion, this is a solid product. However, it has limits as an indoor antenna. . Btw, i also have purchase a refurbished amped mohu leaf after this purchase. As far as i can tell, if you are within the signal range, it does not give any advantage to pick up cbs 2 indoor compared to the regular mohu. I think you can save some bucks by buyng a refurbished one in my experience. It is just an antenna.
CONS
  • When i unpacked the mohu leaf and attached it, it did not take long to find a position in which a channel scan found about 23 channels, with hd reception crystal clear on most of those that i care about. I discarded the packaging and settled down to enjoy my shows. The next time i turned on the tv, most of the stations that had been clear at first were pixilating or completely dropping out. I moved the leaf around but could not replicate the great reception i'd experienced at first. After many experiments running channel scan varying antenna position, at different times of day, and in different weather conditions, there doesn't seem to be a placement that results in consistent reception. Sunrise and sunset seem to affect the quality of reception. Stormy weather affects reception. However, even on nights when the sun has long been down and the sky is clear, reception is variable. In general, i manage to get the news and weather, and have a good idea what is going on in the entertainment programs i watch, but it is frustrating to have picture and sound dropping out at random intervals. . I suspect that most of these problems are due to the fact that i live in a condo located on the lower floor of a two-story building and on the south end of the building in a valley where the television broadcast towers are located on the north side of the valley. The hoa rules at this condo complex do not allow placement of an antenna on the roof. I won't go back to cable tv because i am retired and living on social security. Dropping cable television service has cut my bill by nearly $80/mo. , (i still subscribe to cable internet service. ). . I plan to invest in a roku to get around some of these problems as well as to see programs on cable channels that do not broadcast over the airwaves at all. For what must be seen live - news and weather - i'll just put up with the spotty reception and hope to get the gist of it when clear reception isn't happening. I may try another type of indoor antenna at some point, but i doubt that any indoor antenna will be entirely satisfactory in this particular condo. If you live in the right kind of building in the right location, the mohu leaf antenna will probably provide excellent results for you. I would not discard the packaging until you've lived with the antenna for a while.
  • First off, the antenna looks cool. I get many compliments about it, and people are surprised when they find out it's an antenna. . I went to the website and did an address look-up, and it estimated how many channels my address would get. It said 38. . I got it, tried it on different walls in different rooms, and the most i can get is 10 channels, more than half of them spanish! lame. Not very impressed. I know the website isn't guaranteed to be 100% accurate, but i though i would get at least half the amount of channels they estimated. I'm 25 miles from boston, i should be getting much more than 10 channels. . But it's okay i guess. The channels i get are extremely clear hd, and i get cbs (which was the whole point because i wanted to watch the superbowl at home). . Overall, it's a pretty good, stylish antenna. You'll get some channels, but not as much as a high-end antenna. And the channels come in very clear. Not sure if i want to take a gamble with the amplifier for $30 more.
  • We, like millions of others have decided to cut the cable and spend the money on things like food and the mortgage. My first antenna was a rabbit ear affair purchased at the local goodwill. The reception was good but at times scattered out with the digital buzz and freeze. I decided to upgrade and began to read the reviews. The mohu leaf had the best reviews and since we live just a few miles from the local tv towers i thought it would be the best. I hooked it up and was greeted by the same digital buzz and freeze which my $1. 99 rabbit ears gave me. Granted the frequency reduced about 25% but i ask you is $40 bucks worth a 25% improvement? i think no. If you do by all means go ahead and purchase this antenna. It does fit nicely behind a picture hanging on the wall and i do admit is better to look at than the rabbit ears but not 40 bucks better. Speaking of 40 bucks i would guess this piece of flat plastic which contains a few wires cost no more than 40 cents to produce. American ingenuity speaks loud and clear here, max your profits with a product which is all sizzle and no steak. I would include picture but it is hidden behind a picture on the wall. I would include a video but the tv is in digital freeze mode.

Works great in chicago, il. Image quality is beyond amazing (even better than hd quality of cables. Over the air signals are not compressed so you get the best hd quality you can imagine), typical channel i get in hte highest hd quality: pbs channels, abc, nbc, cbs, wgn, fox chicago, theu channel and more. Click to see NoticeMohu Paper Thin Reversible Performance Mh 110583 (Antenna)"I purchases one mohu leaf antenna for the one tv in my house with bad reception. It performed well and got rid of excessive "pixelation" plus it found all new channels that i'd never received before! i loaned it to my mother for a few days and now i need another since she found more channels and her reception for over-the-air improved so much. We have never purchased cable tv and don't watch tv so much, but once and a while, watch news or network shows and public television. . We have also augmented our tv viewing with roku and a program called playon. Tv which adds "on-demand" viewing for quite a few shows with no monthly bills. The leaf is great, and you should consider this: in a major metropolitan area often all the towers with tv signals are within 2 miles of the city so the lowest priced mohu leaf will provide all channels you need with it's 30 mile range. . From what i've read, in rural areas often you may need a more powerful amplified mohu leaf to get channels in up to a 50 mile radius. I've also read that if you buy an amplified version and you are in a city, that the amplification works against you in those circumstances so do not buy a more powerful mohu leaf than your area requires. . Good luck and buy this if you want to watch a little tv and save your money! it won't work with an old analog tv unless you have a digital converter, but on all newer tv's - if you don't want to pay for cable you won't get the cable channels, but you can find a lot to watch for free with the mohu leaf!"

(0) Question: Can i just place it on the wall behind the tv? my wife will not be happy with this thing if it's highly visible.

(1) Question: Hello, if this product only provides reliable uhf reception, does that mean it is useless for picking up nfl football games, broadcast on nbc and cbs?

(2) Question: Will the moho leaf work with a tivo that doesn't require a cable card?

Roku Streaming Stick Portable, power-packed player voice remote TV power volume 2017

We are a family of two roku tvs and a roku (last years version of this model- 3600r). The problem was the 3600r in the family room did not control the tv power and volume. I was about to order a sideclick when i heard about this new model. The sidelick is $29 here on online store and the new roku was $49. Plus the sideclick added some clunkiness to the remote. . I just received this today and setup was very quick. All i did was unplug the old roku and use the same power adapter and cord. The roku comes with two duracell aaa batteries. After i connected it to my wifi it updated it's firmware. Then it auto-detected the resolution of my sony tv (1080p). Next it played some music and asked if i heard it. I clicked ok and it muted the music. It asked and i confirmed if the music was not playing by clicking ok a second time. Voila. Remote setup for tv power and volume. I signed into my roku account and it downloaded the apps. . I'm not sure what the other reviewers issue was with this controlling his soundbar. I have a 60" sony tv connected to a vizio s5430w-c2 soundbar. It works perfectly fine. I do use hdmi-arc as the connection to the soundbar so that might be the issue. . The other feature that is added to this remote is the voice search. I haven't played with it too much and will update my review. . I bought this from online store. Please note the walmart version has the hard coded vudu button (i don't use vudu). The online store version has directvnow as its bottom right button. I subscribe to ps vue but we might switch over to directvnow in the future. . The only con i can say is there is no mute button. They could have put a third button below the volume controls. There also seems to be a little bit of play with the volume rocker but maybe that is by design. . So far so good. I didn't need this as my existing roku from last year worked perfectly fine. I just wanted to get something posted as there are only 4 reviews and one was saying it didn't control the soundbar.

Roku Streaming Stick Portable Power Packed (Tuner) FAQ.

My setup: samsung tv, 5. 1 capable receiver, front/left/right /enter speakers (no rears), roku streaming stick (new) bluray player with netflix streaming (old, very slow app, so-so video), b/g/n router. . Pro: stick works well for streaming netflix, online store, and pbs. Browsing for videos is so much faster than the streaming built into my older bluray player. Video is much sharper than my old setup. Before, video was mediocre dvd, now looks full hd. . Cons: warning - you may only be able to listen to 2-channel sound! my samsung tv does not have hdmi/arc and cannot pass the digital sound (either with hdmi or optical audio) to my receiver. My tv only passes 2-channel sound via rca cables. This is a step down for me; my bluray would supply hdmi video and optical audio for my receiver with no synch problems. I wish there was a newer roku model(quad cpu) with hdmi + optical out so i could experience at least 3 channel sound. ! there may be a good reason roku doesn't offer this - perhaps, synch problems the tv/hdmi processing and receiver/optical processing? . . I may return the roku if i can find a new bluray player with streaming capabilities equal to the roku. -Notice from Y. Noguera, Michigan

- . ShaynaI love it. We cut cable about 6 months ago and would watch streaming tv either on our computers or have to hook our ipad or computer into the tv to stream to tv. The roku was easy to set up and best of all, i don't have to watch videos on my computer anymore.

This is the best thing ever. No more fooling around with the foolish apps in the tv, or dvd player. This thing works great.

Mohu Leaf 50 TV Antenna Amplified 60 Mile Range MH-110584

Meet the mohu leaf 50 the mohu leaf 50 (formerly leaf ultimate) is the amplified version of the world s first paper-thin hdtv antenna. This omni-directional antenna reaches out in a 60-mile radius from your home to bring you the most popular over-the-air (ota) tv shows, news and sports, on both network and local television in full 1080 hd for free. No need for cable or satellite fees to watch stations like pbs, abc, cbs, nbc and fox, with each network having its own digital sub-channels for maximum content. The leaf 50 is derived from advanced u. S. Military technology and is combined with mohu s cleanpeaktm filter technology to eliminate unwanted cellular or fm signals. The mohu leaf 50 is the premier choice for cord-cutters everywhere the leaf 50 comes with a 16 ft. Cable, 15db gain antenna amplifier and includes an antenna amplifier with cleanpeak filtering technology. With cleanpeak, the amplifier filters out cellular and fm signals, letting you pull in a clearer picture, receive more channels, reduce dropouts and increase your overall experience with broadcast television. The amplifier s patent pending usb powering option boasts an impressive 15db of gain across the entire television broadcasting band, allowing the weakest signals to be received and viewed. The amplified antenna turns on and off with your television when using the tv's usb port to power the amplifier. Coupled with the clarity of over-the-air (ota) broadcast signals, this delivers a superior picture quality than is possible through the compressed cable or satellite broadcast signals. For $30 this antenna takes 3 minutes to unpackage, install a coax cable, and attach to your tv or tuner. Tuner found 60+ channels in a 3 min scan and we get crystal clear picture on all of them in a dense urban area. Only con is the included coax cable was coated in white powdery residue that resulted in us using a different, clean cable we had on hand. We really like that we can hang/store the antenna out of sight behind the tv when not watching, and pop it up when we are. Thin, flexible design allows us to minimize the eyesore of an antenna.

Mohu Paper Thin Reversible Performance Mh 110598 (Antenna) FAQ.

The reception for this is great, much better than the previous antenna i had. Unfortunately, it is a bit unsightly and i really should purchase a longer cable cord for it to reach a better location in my living room. I had it mounted in a window, but the adhesive didn't last very long. -Notice from . Morgan, New Mexico

Works great. Only complaint is that the cable is attached at the antenna end. 20ft wasn't enough for my needs once i attempted to hid the cable. Will need to buy another cable and coupler to finish the job.

- N. AnonymousI have been off cable for 5 years, using a 13 foot hd antenna on my roof which gave me 69 channels. Recently i sold the house and moved to an apartment. I tried several indoor antennas with limited success. The mohu leaf indoor antenna gave me 64 channels with no breakup. I attached my antenna to a window facing south where the tv towers are located. My tv is three years old. Older tv's my not have tuners that can discern that many channels. This is a great antenna.

We got 2 for the house. They had such great reviews and customer service was really good. I've never used any other antenna with our tv's so it's hard to compare. We get a decent number of channels and placement is everything as you will see. Still getting pixelation when viewing so i'm not so certain this is so much better than others.

Fire TV Stick Alexa Voice Remote Streaming Media Player

I know why most of you are here. So before i get started, yes. The all-new online store fire tv stick does work with kodi. I repeat, you will still be able to sideload kodi onto this device! . . Now that we have that incredibly important piece of information out of the way, i will start off by saying the all-new online store fire tv stick picks off where its ever so popular predecessor left off, offering you one of the most inexpensive ways to stream hours of content to your tv. . The package itself includes:. . - the fire tv stick. - the remote control with alexa voice control. - a power adapter. - 2 aaa batteries (by online store basics). - an hdmi extender if the fire tv stick does not fit into your tv s hdmi port. . The device itself couldn t be easier to use. Simply plug it into your tv, and you re good to go! with this device, you ll be able to use apps such as netflix, pandora, hbo, and even online store prime (provided you re a prime member). You will of course need accounts for all of the previously mentioned apps, but if you do not, you can also use youtube through this device, which has hours of content on it by itself! if you re an amazo prime member, you will already have access to thousands of tv shows and movies just in case you didn t know! . . The all new online store fire tv stick features some changes that are worth mentioning, but if you re not too tech-savy, just know that this stick performs faster than the older model. This is due to a stronger processor, a 1. 3ghz quad core processor vs a 1ghz dual core processor from older models. I was a bit disappointed to see that the all-new fire tv stick did not upgrade to 2gb of ram. While 1gb is plenty for streaming in most cases, users may find occasional lag on the home screen, especially when first booting the device up. I ve found that if i turn on my firestick, and go do something else for a few minutes, or just allow the device some time to boot up, i do not run into this issue. While there has not been an update in ram, i have noticed that navigating the fire stick is much quicker than previous models, which will make anybody happy. . Perhaps the biggest change from the previous fire tv stick is the remote control. While all of the buttons are the same, you now have a voice control button on top of the remote control. By pressing this button, you are allowed access to wide range of commands that take all of the grunt work out of browsing your streaming device. For instance, you can ask alexa to find horror movies , play music from pandora , fast forward 5 minutes , etc. This feature is especially useful given the difficulties surrounding the use of streaming devices with a remote control that doesn t have a keyboard or mouse. It is also worth mentioning that the buttons are now made of a soft rubber material, and are easier to use. . To conclude, if you re looking for a portable, depdnable, and easy to use streaming device, this is it. At just under $40. 00, it s hard to say no to perhaps the least expensive streaming device on the market. While i do wish that this model featured 2gb of ram for quicker browsing, 1gb is plenty for what most people will be using this device for; streaming. All in all, i would very much recommend this device! . . If you have any questions about this device, please feel free to comment. As somebody who uses online store almost daily, i ll get back to you very shortly.

Fire Tv Stick Alexa Voice Remote Streaming Media Player (Digital Device 4) FAQ.

The online store fire stick is an amazing device. Television services are moving away from cable and satellite and are moving toward internet based streaming formats. These internet based services work from apps (software packets) and the afs (online store fire stick) provides you with these apps. In fact, it provides you with every kind of app you can think of and the afs does it at an affordable price. . The afs plugs into the hdmi jack on your television and also comes with a power adapter that plugs into the wall. The afs is controlled by a remote control that comes with the device. In order to receive signals, the afs requires wifi or a local hot spot with speed requirements of around 5 mbps for hd broadcasts. Movies and shows displayed by the device are typically in hd quality with good picture and sound quality. It is easy to set up and use and i was up and running in minutes. . Many television channels you receive through cable or satellite services, like the history channel for example, offer programming over the internet. In order to watch these shows on a television, you need a hardware device that converts these shows into a format the television can use (hdmi plug). It also has to be loaded with a software packet for the particular channel you want to watch. The afs is a device that provides you with both the hardware and software needed to watch such shows and it bundles everything together nicely so it is extremely easy to use. . Shows available to watch on the afs vary how they can be accessed for viewing. Some apps (channels) are free and they offer limited programming on demand from shows they aired in the past. Others require monthly fees. Some apps like sling, hulu, playstation vue, etc. Offer multiple channels all on the same app. Playstation vue (the one i signed up with) offers bundled packages of channels just like cable or satellite services and they are live broadcasts! ps vue displays a guide with many channels to choose from and comes with a dvr recorder so programs can be recorded and watched later. The amazing thing with vue is you can go into the guide, pick a show that was aired, say, two hours ago that you missed and watch it in its entirety! the afs gives you the tools you need to receive such programming. . Another sweet thing about using the afs for television viewing is no installer has to come to your house to set up your equipment and when you re finished with their service nothing has to be returned. All you need is provided by the afs. Also, no service contracts are required and services can be cancelled at any time with no penalties. . I hope this was useful. Many of you took the time to write reviews and they were extremely helpful to me. I wanted to return the favor. -Notice from Z. Nicole, Hawaii

Set up was easy. Online store registration was quick. I hope it last a lot longer than my fire box. My fire box last 1 year and 2 months just stop working, when contacted online store they said it was out of warranty. They then mentioned that they will give me discount on my next purchase of fire box. However i decided to go with fire stick, this my 3rd online store tv product, the other fire stick works ok, a little slow, but it works. My tech guy puts my other programs on it for me, so it has that capability. So i use my sticks for prime movies and netflix. This stick is a little faster than my other stick, but it s new so i ll see in couple months of use. I should have asked online store to discount my new stick since the fire box stop working. Overall i like online store tv products and they have great customer service, honestly i prefer online store tv product more so than the other android boxes. These sticks doesn t need updating, well online store does it for free, so i don t need to take these to my tech guys. They can also put the same programs that you can on them as with android boxes, so we have prime, netflix and all the other tv programs on one product, i like that type of convenience.

- E. HeidiOnline store fire helped me cut the cable and go all streaming. Bought it with a dot and both work very well together. . Plus -. Lots of channels & apps. Works amazingly well with the echo dot. Very stable and works well with plex server. Works well with other video streaming apps. . Minus -. Voice commands could be improved. Voice controls work at top level but not inside apps. Example - you can say launch "direct tv" but you cannot say play xyz on "direct tv" maybe a limitation of the app and not the firestick but could be improved. Waiting for future updates.

We love our fire stick. We love watching new japan professional wrestling and we were watching it online but the feeds started to become less stable. We found out that there's a njpw app on the fire stick. Now we can watch all their events in beautiful clarity. We also love rugby and we really pleased to find rugby apps on the fire stick also! we love our stick so much that when we noticed it had a netflix app we suggested my mother get one so she can watch netflix on her television. There have been one or two times where it seemed to stop working for a few moments but it eventually started playing again.

Tablo 4-Tuner Digital Video Recorder DVR Over-The-Air OTA HDTV Wi-Fi LIVE TV Streaming

Tablo is nearly perfect for a cord cutter. I left direct tv and opted to stream through online store fire tv and install an ota. I will provide a little background to what i did. I purchased and installed a clear stream 2v ota. I then purchased the roku ultra and roku stick for my other tv. Tablo works perfectly with the roku in terms of delivering the content, i was however more impressed with the online store fire environment. The gui is much cleaner and it even shows you how far into the program you are currently in through the guide. I am streaming through playstation vue solely because they offer a cloud based dvr system. No other streaming service has this. The gui for ps vue is horrible on the roku, the fire tv gui is very clean and provides a grid format. Tablo works great with online store and seems to have a better menu built in. One thing i love is that tablo, ps vue, prime and netflix all work in one device so no need to switch inputs! so far the system has been working flawlessly, i am hardwire in everywhere and my main entertainment area i have my fire tv hooked up ethernet. I do have fire sticks in my master bedroom and the kids room and both stream live tv and recorded shows with no issues. Like others have reported the start up is slow and changing channels has a delay, but i don't typically channel surf. We record shows and watch them on our own time. The only time we watch live tv is during the prime time news times. I love the fact that i don't have to run coaxial to any of my tvs, which is pain in the butt when they are all wall mounted. So why the four stars, three reasons:. . 1. I wish for this price point they at least put in a 500gb hard drive, i had a spare portable drive so a not a huge, but i wish is was built in. 2. Guide data is an additional $150 for a lifetime subscription (5 a month or 50 a year is also an option). This is still cheaper than tivo, which doesn't integrate with online store to my knowledge and still much cheaper than cable. 3. The box runs very hot sometimes since they used passive cooling. I honestly prefer the fan noise if it prolongs the device life. Based on how hot it runs i am concerned it will be failing sooner than it should. . So all in all expect to pay around 400-500 if you consider the hard drive and guide as part of your investment. Seem like a lot, but the reality at least for me is that the payback period is going to be around 5 months with the money i am saving from scraping my directv subscription. Good luck.

Tablo is a 4-tuner over-the-air (ota) dvr for cord-cutters using hdtv antennas to access broadcast tv signals. All tablo units include dual band wi-fi enabling tablo and the antenna to be placed in an optimal location for ota reception. Browse, record and stream up to four simultaneous live or recorded hdtv programs on your ipad, android tablet, laptop, smartphone, or your big screen tv using roku, chrome cast or apple tv. A whole-home-dvr and place shifter combined, tablo streams your favorite hdtv programs including local news and sports to all connected devices on your home network or anywhere you have internet.

Tablo 4 Tuner Digital Recorder Streaming (spvr4 01 na) FAQ.

I can only give this 4 stars, since i was never able to attach the device to my network over wifi. I didn't try tech support - i decided to hard-wired it to my router. That, of course, created another problem relative to antenna placement, but that seemed an easier problem to overcome than fighting wifi throughput. Other than that, the device works exactly as described and designed. Its interface is simple and functional, and integration with the tablo program listing service is excellent. I have a 1 terabyte ssd attached to it (they're cheap), and don't think i'll be struggling with capacity issues. The only other observation i might make (and this isn't relative to the device, but to cutting the cord in general) is that you have to make sure your antenna produces a sufficiently strong signal. Mine is clean most of the time, but we discover poor quality recordings from time to time, impacted, i assume, by weather and other problems associated with over-the-air broadcast. I'm in the process of updating my antenna installation to suit. But, again, this is a very viable alternative to cable dvr systems for folks who are mostly interested in the content broadcast locally, and otherwise purchase streaming services (netflix, etc. ) for content beyond that. I'm saving a bundle over my cable bill. -Notice from D. Mable, Quebec

There have been some notable developments over the last few months that potential tablo buyers (and anyone stuck with huge cable/satellite bills) should be aware of:. . 1. Sling tv: wow. It's an exciting time to be someone looking to escape their big cable/satellite bills. At ces, dish network just announced that their stand-alone "sling tv" service will launch in the coming weeks. Sling tv will be an online streaming service that will cost only $20/mo and live-stream a small number of the most popular cable channels that typically keep people sucked into huge, bloated cable bundles. Espn, hgtv, tnt, disney, cnn, etc. All will be streamed live to roku and other streaming devices. Very exciting. The big "problem" that people are pointing out is that sling tv does not provide access to the network channels (abc/cbs/nbc/fox/pbs). Well, that's where tablo comes in to fill that gap. While sling does have some other notable "issues" such as being viewable on only one device at a time. A "tablo + sling tv + (netflix/online store)" bundle could be a huge value-play for forward-leaning tv viewers. Not to mention being potentially very disruptive to the traditional cable/satellite-tv paradigm. . 2. Phone apps! as noted below, tablo did not enable streaming to phones upon original release. This was remedied a few weeks back with the release of "web-based apps" for both android 4. 1+ and ios7+. I have not used it yet, but they are there, and seem to be fully functional according to feedback. . 3. Hdd selection. Be sure to carefully select what external hdd you choose to use with tablo. Many hdds have had inconsistent results when used on tablo. As of right now, the wd "elements" line seems to be tablo's recommended drive. Recommend going to the tablo forums to see what the latest recommendations are on the hdd front. . 4. Major roku app upgrade coming. On their blog, tablo has released some screenshots of a major upgrade to the tablo roku channel/app. This will use a custom-built channel (like netflix & hulu do, for example) rather than sticking to the very limited "standard" roku channel format. The screesnhots look great. A recent tablo survey indicated that roku is by far the most used way to watch tablo, so i'm very interested to see how this turns out. A really good tablo channel for roku would go a long way towards making tablo seem more like a traditional dvr. No eta has been given yet. . *end of update. Original review below*. . For the better part of two years, i've been on a search for what i would consider the holy grail of cord-cutters: a high quality over the air (ota) whole-home dvr solution. I have three (sometimes 4) tvs throughout the house, and didn't want to maintain 3-4 different dvrs. However, that's not all. I also wanted to be able to stream recordings and live tv to my mobile devices (androids and kindles). I wanted at least 4 ota tuners to basically eliminate any recording/watching conflicts. Oh. And bonus points goes to the solution that also ties into my roku 3's. Which would allow me to avoid having to add another "box" to each of my tvs. And, of course, i don't want to have to pay a lot for it. If this sounds a bit like a fantasy, it's for good reason. It seems like it didn't exist until recently. . I went hands-on with multiple potential solutions to my requirement. And researched several others, but the quad-tuner tablo is where i found the best blend of functionality, reliability, price, and performance. It hasn't quite reached holy-grail status, but it comes really, really close. And is getting closer by the day. . Prior to tablo, here are some of the other solutions i tried:. . 1. I tried the do-it-yourself myth-tv server. It turned out to be too complex to be reliable. I sank a couple of weeks of effort into it, but eventually cut my losses and moved on. . 2. Windows media center (wmc) with extenders. It worked. But required stand-alone extenders (ceton echos or xbox360s) that added cost and complexity to my overall system. Streaming to my android devices could be achieved by using a remote potato service, but doing so required a powerful computer and taking the risk of relying on a non-commercial product for that functionality. Finally, microsoft's tepid support to wmc made it feel like i was very late to the game on this one. So i moved on. . 3. Simple. Tv v1. The simple tv is very similar in concept to tablo in that it transcodes to a stream-friendly format for rokus and mobile devices. It worked in the most basic sense, but it failed on multiple fronts. The transcoder and compression was poor. Picture quality was ok on my android devices, but simply didn't cut it on the tvs. None of the meta-data or schedules were stored locally on the device, so it would "phone home" to simple's servers constantly during use. Unfortunately that meant that it turned into a brick whenever their servers or your internet connectivity were down. It was only a single-tuner as well, meaning it was not up to par as a true whole-home dvr. Simple released a v2 dual-tuner version. But it was a disaster at the beginning, with widespread overheating problems and very loud cooling fans. . 4. Tivo. I had tivo hds in the past, and liked them. The base tivo roamio, which is the only one with ota tuners, receives really good reviews. Tivo's achilles heel, however, has always been their pricing practices. They historically have required a relatively high monthly fee for each device. Or a huge upfront cost for a lifetime subscription for each device. Additionally, tivo did not have android streaming support until just recently. It also requires a tivo-specific "box" at each tv (either full-up tivo, or a tivo-mini) with corresponding networking infrastructure. It should be noted, however, that tivo seems to be making changes rapidly in recent months. With the possibility of the monthly fees being ended on tivo minis, as well as a previously mentioned android streaming being finally released after years of development. This occurred after i purchased my tablo. But even with those changes, i would still have picked the tablo. . -. . After looking at the above solutions, i decided to give one last try before resigning myself to keeping my dish network service. Tablo. On paper, it looked good. It had two models, including one with 4 tuners. The channel schedules and meta data were stored locally on the device, so it avoided the cloud-reliance issues from the simple. Tv. It also approached the transcoding differently than the simple (too techy to really get into here). So i suspected the picture quality would be better. Streams to roku? yep. Streaming to androids? mostly. But only tablets (more on that later). Is it cheap? well. That probably depends on what functionality you'll be using. For me, with 3-4 tvs and multiple mobiles to stream to, it was cost-effective. . So, i pre-ordered the tablo quad-tuner and received it shortly after release. I've been using it now for about 3 months, and have been very, very impressed with it. . Here are some of the strengths of tablo from my viewpoint:. . Picture quality: pretty good. For most content, it's almost indiscernible from dish network. The transcoding does struggle a "little" during sports, where motion isn't quite as smooth as the original ota transmission. And the compression is noticeable on my biggest tv (54" plasma). But overall, light-years ahead of simple. Tv when it comes to viewing on tvs. . Reliability: probably the most surprising part for me. It was pretty solid from the start. There have been a few reboots (maybe every couple of weeks), but it's getting better with each firmware update. Having the data stored locally also is huge as far as reliability goes. . Seems to be a great company: tablo is very, very active on their forums and other popular forums. They seem to very interested in what the customer wants. They communicate well. And are rapidly improving their product. . Roku integration: for my own requirements. This is the money maker. I already had rokus on all of my tvs, so i didn't have to add any additional devices to puchase/install. The tablo "channel" for roku works well. It takes a bit of getting used to and has some quirks and shortcomings (no traditional "guide", for example). But it gets the job done and is also being improved continuously. . Some downsides of tablo:. . Audio: all audio is transcoded to stereo aac for maximum compatibility. However, it loses a lot of the "pop" from the original dolby digital transmission when viewed on capable surround sound systems. Dolby digital pass-through has been a popular request on their forums, and tablo acknowledges it. But it doesn't seem to be imminent or high on their priority list. . Phone streaming: as of right now, tablo only support streaming to devices 7" or larger (tablets, basically). It doesn't stream to phones. Tablo readily admits they underestimated the demand for streaming to phones. And seems to be committed to making this happen in the future. This can be overcome, however, if you have a plex server. Plex can serve as an intermediary to enable streaming to any plex-capable device. It works well. Kudos to the developers. *update: phone apps were released in nov 2014*. . Syncing/downloading content: tablo doesn't have that functionality (yet). . External streaming: this takes a bit of technical know-how to open ports on your router. And requires your device to have been "registered" previously with the tablo by having been on the same lan previously. Kind of an odd "authentication scheme" there. . -. . So. In the end, if you're looking for an ota dvr. What should you buy? in my opinion. It depends. What do you want that dvr to do? what do you currently have? . . Do you have a couple of tvs and want a traditional dvr experience? willing to spend some money for a high-quality and polished experience? get a tivo roamio and a tivo mini. Honestly. Tivo is the best pure traditional dvr. Uncompromised picture quality. The famous tivo ui experience. It makes for an easy transition for family members. . Do you already have a traditional dvr you're happy with. But just want to be able to stream the big game to your phone/tablet while you work on a project in the garage, commute, or are out-and-about on the weekend? give the simple. Tv v1 a try. You can get these for dirt-cheap on ebay now ( $75. Including a lifetime subscription). Take the hard drive out of an old laptop, slap it in a $10 external hard drive enclosure. And for less than $100, you have that ability. The cloud reliance of simple. Tv is actually a strength in this case. Because it's server serves as an intermediary for connecting. Making router-adjustments unneeded. . Do you want a whole-home dvr to integrate into your roku-streaming house? want mobile streaming without having to deal with horrible transcoding? tablo is what you want. For me. It's the best "next-gen" ota dvr on the market right now. It's not a traditional dvr. And it's not purely an aereo-replacement. It's something in the middle or something else entirely depending on how you look at it. It's not perfect. It won't fool anyone into thinking that it's a traditional dvr, and that takes some getting used to. It still has some shortcomings, but those are being actively worked on by what seems to be a very good and responsive company. So, it gets a highly recommended from me.

Tablo-4-tuner-digital-recorder-streaming-(spvr4-01-na) set picture

- . CageenOverall i love this product. It has far more pros than cons for me, but i will be more detailed in the cons because everyone has different needs. . Two fyi:. 1)this is the case with any ota dvr, but you need a strong signal. I would setup your antenna, amplifier, etc and make sure you are happy with your ota before buying any dvr. That said, the tuner on the tablo itself is very good - better than my tv's actually. 2)this is a streaming device. This does not connect to your tv, it uses you home network to stream live tv and dvr recordings to devices. . Pros:. - tablo allows you to have one dvr and connect multiple devices in any room of the house and view live tv or dvr recordings. This functionality works better than any cable service i've ever had including whole house dvr through xfintity x1 and verizon fios. The tablo itself lives next to the router. We can view live tv or recordings in the home theater through an appletv (airplay from ipad), the living room using a roku, or anywhere else on our laptop, iphones or ipad. During the super bowl, some of the food wasn't quite done, so i threw the game on my ipad right in the kitchen and didn't mess a beat. - tablo apps are easy to use. - you can set up remote use to watch on devices away from home. - variable streaming quality allows optimized use based on your internet connection. - guide subscription (optional, but recommended) is way cheaper than the competitors. A life time guide subscription pays for itself in 10 months compared to tivo romio. - tablo is constantly adding new feature through firmware and app updates. The product keeps getting better without requiring you to buying a new device every year. - tablo support is great. Very active and responsive. I haven't had any issues with my unit, but i've dealt with them through feature requests and through some beta testing. They are very active in improving the product and use customer feedback to add new features. . Cons:. - no surround sound. The way the unit works, the incoming stream is transcoded to be compatible with many devices and the raw audio is lost, at this time surround sound is not passed through. I use dolby prologic ii in my ht to get surround sound and it works pretty well. - set up and use is slightly more complicated than your typical off the shelf device. You don't need to be an av expert, but you need a general idea of electronics to get it configured right. A good baseline is if you are comfortable setting up your own wifi router. If you can do that, you will have no problem with the tablo. Even if you are less comfortable, tablo support is great and there are video tutorials to help you through the set up. - no hdmi out - this is due to the way the unit works and isn't really a con, but you do need a device (like appletv, roku, firestick etc) at each tv to view the content. - you need to provide your own hard drive. I use a portable 2. 5" 2 tb drive. It hold s a lot of recorded shows. - the interface is slightly different on every device so experience isn't identical on every device. Going between apple an roku you will find different features and options on each. - you need a strong lan network. The box only uses internet for the guide. But some devices like chromecast have weak wifi and you need a strong signal for optimal performance. The device needs a little more horsepower than netflix, so wired connections are preferred, but my roku 2 is on wifi and works great. - live tv has a delay. The unit buffers live tv to allow pause. This happens when you tune to a channel so channel surfing if a bit slow. Start up is a bit slow as well. . For me, this unit single singlehandedly allowed me to cut the cord and drop comcast. The upfront cost can be high when you consider the cost of the tablo, a hdd and guide subscription, but its worth it based on my monthly savings. I have no problem recommending this device to people who are looking for a whole house ota dvr.

Jury still out on tablo for me. Android app isn't that great. I can get tablo to work locally using kodi add on and fire tv. Remotely doesn't work. Guide will download but just says connecting to tablo but you never get option to select a channel. Picture quality is good locally. Recordings are good. Only wanted so i can stream to all my tv's and use remotely. Right now it's losing the remote access battle so not sure if i want to keep device or send back. Will do some more testing. Hopefully it will get better. Btw this things gets hot. Very hot. Should consider a laptop cooler. . *update*so i figured out remote access. It setup screen it shows you the ports that need to be opened on your router. I thought it was and either or type situation but you have to configure both ports. I set for tcp/udp on my port forwarding in router just to be safe. Now video remotely works flawlessly. I am streaming full quality with no hiccups. Still concerned by how hot it gets but updated rating a star to 4 stars now the remote setup is working. . *last update*resolved issue with tablo being hot. Bought a laptop cooler laptop cooling fan with built-in 3 usb hub - silver finish ideal for notebook, netbook, macbook, and other 9"-14" laptops that works with tablo. Keeps device considerably cooler but still i had to buy a separate device so will keep rating of 4 the same. . Key things you will need. Strong signal preferably a root top antenna for a strong signal. Laptop cooler(device normally runs hot). Good platform to run on(website, kodi app. Fire tv, android app work flawlessly) my not work right on android tv box it didnt on mine. Configure router for remote setup(both parts have to be setup not just one). Patience(lol)

Clearstream Eclipse Indoor Antenna Black (Antennas Direct) FAQ.

Great antenna. I first tried the antenna indoors next to the tv and it really didn't show much improvement over the small indoor amplified antenna i was previously useing that was rated for 25 miles. Once i installed this antenna outside the reception improved dramatically and is significantly better than the previous antenna i was using. -Notice from A. Eva, Delaware

I bought this for my newly built home and main cable is not connected to street. I don't watch much tv other than pbs on weekends and mainly news at morning/night, and also didn't want to pay high price on cable/dish. My house has data room where every cable/wire converge so i put this antenna in this room facing toward antenna towers temporary until i can permanently install in my attic. To my surprise, i get almost 6 out of 8 signal strength at this location(my tv has signal meter). After i placing it in my attic, i got 7 out of 8 strength so instead of hard mounting in my attic, i brought it back into my house for easy access. I didn't see any difference in number of channels it detect and the quality of 6 to 7 strength. I highly recommend this to anyone. But before you buy, make sure you do your research to know where your antenna tower is located and how far. I live in houston downtown area, and antenna tower is around 25 miles away south from me.

Clearstream-eclipse-indoor-antenna-black-(antennas-direct) set picture

- V. GuestThis is a great attic antenna. . I live roughly 30 miles from tv antennas as per tvfool. Com. I set this up in my attic guessing general direction and was about to all major channels except 1. . Repositioning the antenna didn't really work until i streamlined the coax cabling in the house. This entailed reducing the number of splitters to just the devices i needed, and then replacing an older looking coax cable with a newer one i had lying around. . After those small tweaks, rain or shine, i'm able to get all major channels. Now.

My conditions: hilly/mountainous terrain of seattle. Rain, fog and trees. Fortunately living on a hill and stations are located 10-35 miles away from me and all within a 100 degree fan range. . Installation: in attic about 25 feet above the ground with pre-amp (winegard lna-200 boost xt digital hdtv preamplifier) cabled into a junction/splitter that runs to various rooms in the house. . Previous antenna: mohu leaf (amplified) - worked ok but when rainy or foggy, some of the channels that were even 10-15 miles away cut out momentarily. Although multi-directional, noticed better reception when oriented in certain way and difficult to aim given its design. . Results: works great. Picked up 10 more channels that were rated blue or violet on antennaweb. Org while providing strong / quality signal on those channels that were fading with the mohu. Even on a rainy / foggy day. This is a directional antenna, so you need to point it where the stations are located; a 5 degree adjustment can make a world of difference. Again, my stations were within a 100 degree range, but this antenna had no issue with picking those stations up. Fortunately, those blue / violet stations were in the middle of the range fan so i have the antenna pointed directly to those "weaker" stations. Also, the vhf was able to pick up the 3 stations that were broadcasting vhf. . Some tips when buying an antenna:. - where do you live? check out antennaweb. Org and find out where your stations are located and see if an antenna will even work for where you live. The website will be able to guide you to see what antenna you should get (small, medium, large, directional, multi-directional, etc). - if you're splitting the signal to more than one tv over long stretches of wire, then ensure to get a pre-amplifier and place it between the antenna and splitter. - your tv dtv tuner. All tvs' dtv tuners (converts the antenna signal to the picture on your screen) are not created equal. Some are better than others at "catching" and converting the signal. My newer tvs (less than 2 years old) are able to pick up the blue / violet stations while my older tvs (4-5 years old) cannot. Also, how far the signal has to run on the length of cable can also have an effect once it gets to the tv. . Hopefully, this helps.

The F.A.Q. for mohu leaf 30 tv antenna, indoor, 30 mile range, original paper-thin, reversible, paintable, 4k-ready hdtv, 10 foot detachable cable, premium materials for performance, usa made, mh-110583

This leaf antenna allows reception of all nine kansas city primary tv channels even though it is positioned in a bedroom such that the signals have to pass through four walls of my home to reach it. The stations are located from 13 to 20 miles distant, and have an angular spread of 26 degrees. Have chosen to have the antenna semi portable by mounting it in a lengthwise narrow slot cut in a small 7/8 inch square plastic towel rod bought from home depot for about $4. A section 12 inches long from the rod is needed for this project, which also requires a relief mid length to accomodate the antenna tab. It is finalized by raising this reworked towel rod to give clearnce beneath of roughly 5 inches. My arrangement for this consisted of a heavily weighted tang container with a wooden dowel rod fixed vertically in it. A suitably sized hole in the aforementioned short section of towel rod gives the whole device the "ground clearance" it requires. Happy i made this choice for my hdtv and selected online store for the speedy delivery.

After purchasing 4 0r 5 hd indoor antenna's for my hd tv, (i did not want to pay a mo charge for cable)i saw this on online store. I had spent anywhere from $ 20. 00 to $ 70. 00 for a portable unit, and decided i would try one more. I am so glad i did! this indoor paper thin antenna really made my day. After reading the mounting instructions which are very clear and easy to follow; i stuck the antenna; yes stuck the antenna(velcro included) to my window at the highest point. After using the scanning feature on the tv, i picked up channels i did know available in my area. The picture was really clear, and audio was excellant. In fact i called to my wife and asked her to view the picture, and she was amazed at the same quality, and stated it's as good or better than our cable tv picture on the same channel. In fact one of our local channels comes in better than the one on cable, (local channel and cable are having issues)in comparsion! . The unit( i purchased two)even works on the far side of our home, not facing toward the tv broadcast antenna also! there are limitations stated in the instructions as to the placement, distance, and installation, but i would recommend the moho paper thin antenna unit above any i have tried in the past from the major brands. Thank you online store and moho(usa product) for having excellant quality items made available to us through your system. Shipping(free of course over 25. 00), quick delivery, quality, plus many other reasons are my choices, for using online store!

Paper thin leaf indoor hdtv antenna - made in the usa! . I read reviews for this antenna and it has been the best choice for me. It works as described and i am now getting more channels than i knew existed in our area. We are in nj about 15 miles from philly. . We had a heck of a time getting this antenna to work. I kept trying as suggested but did not seem to be too much better than the existing rca antenna that we had. . Here is what the problem was and i bet there are other people that had problems with this antenna and did not know why. . Answer: window screen! . . We live in an older home, 50+ years. We have the triple track aluminum storm windows. In the winter the screen is stored inside the window on two hook kind of things on the window track. I just happend to see the screen when we were moving the antenna as the company suggest. Took the darn screen moved it down to the lower window and i now have 42 over the air channels. There are some in other than english that i will not need. It really is umbelieveable how well this light weight antenna is and it works great! this unit is on the first floor level of our home. Our daughter's bedroom is on the second floor and we get 2x the stations we get on hers. . And the great thing is usa made!

Location: 1 mile directly west of willis tower. Plenty of signal to catch from the entire loop. Tv: sharp lcd. . First, cable sucks. We calculated the cost of the time we watched shows that were non-broadcast when we could catch them was $10/hour. It wasn't worth it. . After dumping cable, we bought an rca flat indoor antenna. We were able to get all but cbs, and i mean no cbs. Spotty reception for some channels (wmaq, wabc, wgn, wttw), good reception from all others (wpwr, fox, ion, etc. ) signal strength from tv gauge read 70-90% of capacity, mostly on the low end. This was not good. . Read all the reviews for antennas, and was skeptical of this one, but went with it. After 1 minute of physical setup (it would have been faster if i didn't read the directions), and rescanning the channels on the air antenna setup, it was up. Now, all channels come in, including cbs. The signal strength is now 95-100% capacity, mostly 100% on almost all channels. . I didnn't believe it, but i am a believer now. This is so worth the money and cable still sucks!

N. Nellie, Sachsen-Anhalt

I love this antenna! crystal clear (free! ) channels, unobtrusive design, & made in the usa. What more could you want? if you're sick of paying an arm & a leg for 200 channels you don't even watch, i highly recommend getting this product. Just plug in, hang on the wall behind the t. V. & run the (antennna) channel search. Ours found 48 channels; all but one are hd quality & all are 100% free! . . Update: bought a second antenna for our other t. V. & just as impressed. I have to agree that the people who are having problems may not be using it right; try calling mohu's customer service. Did experience a few blips in signal when we had a bad wind storm last week, but no worse than when there were "sunspots" interferring with cable last year.

This is my fourth antenna since dtv was introduced to nyc some years ago. Since that time, i haven't had any good tv experience because i only got signal when i put the antennas-if it worked-on a particular spot by the window in my brooklyn apartment. In fact, the channels i get would depend on the spot i put the antenna in on the windowsill-really frustrating. . So i basically stopped watching tv after buying my third antennas. It did pick up a few more channels, but not my favorite ones, and it was unattractive. Something just doesn't look right about having an hdtv with huge hard-to-hide rabbit-ear antenna nearby. . Recently, i decided to try again and saw the mohu leaf antenna on online store. I read the at reviews and watched youtube videos about the product to see if it'd meet my needs. (i'd also moved my tv away from the window. ) the auto scan with my old antenna picked weak/no signal (that is, no pictures) and the mohu leaf picked up two or three spanish channels. Not that much better either. So i went back on online store, read some more reviews and got an extension cord (f-pin on both ends, joined with a coupler), and guess what. . I picked 59 channels! many english, spanish, and asian language ones (i only speak english), and they all of them working perfectly. . I highly recommend this product for nyc dwellers.

In the never-ending research to cut the cable bill, i found this antenna works on digital tvs and lets you pick up broadcast stations at a distance. Our state has only one tv station and the rest are broadcast in from pa, md or nj. So reception is pretty poor. "rabbit ears" have never worked here, nor any other kind of antenna we tried until the leaf. It is easy to install and it picked up many, many stations from a digital tv. . All i did was hook it up to the coax antenna port in the back, hang it on the wall (i used tape for temporary positioning) and turned on the tv menu to auto-scan for channels. It found quite a few. Most of our major stations are more than the 35 mile range but it got enough to be useful. . It's easy to hang when you've found your desired height-there are two holes in the upper corners. One side is black the other white to (hopefully) fit your decor. They say you can paint it to match your wall with no problem. . The antenna cable is 10 ft long, which lets you get some height if the tv is near the wall. And it has to be on a wall; i tried a window-no go. For some reason, it picks up more signal flat on a wall. But any wall would do-it's multi-directional. If you do want to extend the cable, you can use coax cable rated at 75 ohm (rg-6 or rg-11) up to 25 feet-after than, the signal degrades. . Add a roku lt streaming media player and a subscription to netflix or online store prime (assuming you have internet) and you have relatively good television for about 100 bucks a year. . If you are in a very remote area, this still won't work-35-45 miles is about the best you'll get from this antenna. But it does work.

G. Kelly, Nottinghamshire says

I bought a mohu leaf paper-thin indoor hdtv antenna a couple of years ago when they were new and while the reception and performance is still as excellent as ever, there have been some subtle changes made that have improved the use of this antenna. First, the cable is longer than on the original model, making it easier to use the antenna further away from the television or to place it higher on the wall (i have 10 foot ceilings). Second, the set now comes with push pins in white or in black to be used to put the antenna up on the wall - we were using an obnoxious yellow pin that we had found around the house. The velcro options still exist which, for some people, i imagine, is a good thing. We have to move our antenna around too much for the velcro to be of much use. The base that the cable connects into on the paper-thin antenna also seems to be more sturdy. All around, improvements have been made that have enhanced - not hindered - this wonderful invention. We get nearly 40 channels out here in the desert from local stations, stations in los angeles (nearly 100 miles away) and down in san diego. Amazing!

M. Pete, Barking and Dagenham

I live in a single-story townhouse approximately 45 miles from orlando and ordered this antenna with the knowledge that i could always return it when it didn't work. Well, i was proven wrong. I had set it up in the spare bedroom in less 10 minutes and the picture on my visio tv is beautiful, clear and sharp. I'm getting the major networks along with several other channels. I've ordered two additional leaf's, only this time i've ordered the leaf plus for the tv's in the living room and the master bedroom. I'll be cable free this weekend and my anticipated savings the first year (after the expense of purchasing the 3 leaf's, a blu-ray player for hulu, etc, and paying for internet) will be $500. 00. Thereafter, the savings will amount to $800. 00 per year. Oh yeah! . . Update: i've been using these since may, 2012 and have not missed cable at all. I am getting approximately 45 channels on each of them and not once have i regretted dropping cable. Granted, there are quite a few hispanic and religous channes, which i don't watch, but that's ok. A friend had seen mine and orderd 3 for his tv's and he also couldn't be happier. I'll never go back to cable, lol!

P. Paige, Hamburg says

First impression 03/24/2013 . It probably took me 30 minutes to unpack the antenna and then find the exact direction it needed to be pointed to pick up channel 8 (wfaa) in the dallas area. Most of the time was spent finding the direction it wanted to be pointed to get channel 8 (approximately 205 degrees). Unfortunately that direction does not align with any walls or furniture so it will be a challenge to make it blend in. I am a little bit skeptical about the (multidirectional) claim but am happy. Channel 8 is just one of the 58 channels it picked up although i still can't get channel 9 which i have heard is the channel 8 hd but that is irrelevant because the over air picture quality of all the channels is far superior to time warner cable hd or otherwise. This antenna has replaced the "terk hdtva indoor amplified high-definition antenna for off-air hdtv reception" (asin: b0007mxzb2)which i just can't convince to pick up channel 8 dependably. The terk is a good antenna except it would not get 8. I am in rowlett approximately 34 miles from the transmission towers.

V. Brenda, West Virginia

The mohu leaf is by far the best over-the-air antenna i have tried. I have used about five over the years, including one mounted on the roof. The mohu out performs them all. One thing that has turned out to be a particularly important feature of the mohu. As compared to most other antennas. Is that the coax cable attaches directly to the antenna. Firstly, this enables you to adjust the length of the cable as needed. If your set is twenty feet from where the antenna gets it's best reception. It is not a problem. Secondly, it enables you to install a switchable splitter on the antenna so that you can have two cables leading from it. I have one directly to the tv. And another to my dvr. I found that my ota signal was about 20% weaker if it went through the dvr and then to the tv, so i only switch over to the dvr cable when i want to record something.

After 3 hours on the phone with the comcast "customer torture department" we finally had it and went searching for alternatives. Found this wonderful antenna here on online store and encouraged by the reviews placed an order. . Wowzers - what a difference! the antenna installed and went up on the wall easily. After a short detour to read our tv manual we figured out how to scan for channels - et voila! - there they were clear, sharp and with hd. For around what comcast was charging for a single month of basic cable we now have unlimited months of the same thing. . Yipee! we're thrilled!

Q. Carol, Darlington

Update i moved this antenna to a tv in different room and now get 12 channels. I also cut the cable cord. For the tv where this was connected i bought asin:b008kvuagu homeworx hdtv digital flat antenna uhf / vhf (hw110an) and get 8 channels . I would still highly recommend the mohu leaf-made in america. . I bought this antenna when online store had it as a deal before christmas so i did pay a little bit less for it but even at the full price i think it is worth it for me. I'm working on cutting the cable cord and i'm 99 percent sure it will be cut before my next bill. . I only get four channels fox , cbs, mynetworktv and zuus country ( a second channel from my local fox station) but i have it in a southwest window when according to where i live the best reception is probably northeast. I love my cable tv but it is too expensive and i have not paid extra to get hd on my cable box but with this antenna the picture i get for these four channels is amazing. This is what the picture on an hd tv is supposed to look like. I have gotten abc nbc and the cw but not all channels at the same time and not as good as cbs and fox. I honestly wonder if where i live people could get cbs (kdka) in their basement for me it has the best signal. I think i could live with just cbs and fox over the air but i'm increasing my internet speed a bit to get a roku and go the online store prime, netflix , hulu plus route. I'm just mesmerized by watching reruns of the middle and modern family on mynetworktv it is like i never saw the shows before the picture is so good. . I am sorry that i never redeemed the coupons for the free converter boxes because my other 2 non hd tvs are near northeast windows but i never thought i would leave cable. . I would also recommend looking at the mohuleaf. Com site to see which channels you should be able to get. Tvfool. Com is another good site ( i can't understand all the geek stuff on this site) but if you put in your address it does give you a 360 degree circle with the angles of where the channels are coming from.

F. Morgan, South Dakota says

I have been very pleased so far with this antenna. As a person who has had cable my whole life to instantly cut it off entirely and go with just the hd antenna option is a bit of a change at first, but it's become easier, especially with having all the streaming options like prime, netflix and hulu. One thing i would suggest with this antenna is that you do place it as high as possible, preferably in your window so there is a better line of sight. Also, if you plan on using it in your window, i would highly recommend using the sticky circular pads that come with the antenna so it doesn't move. As far as image, i've had a few block images from time to time, but nothing that is super distracting. Since we live in a major city we are within easy range of all the towers, so 22 channels are easily picked up. There is a 10-foot coaxial cable that comes with it, but if you're like me and that's not long enough to reach a window (by the way, you don't have to place it in a window, i just prefer to have it there), then you will need to order a longer one. Do not go to radioshack or other retailers to order a basic coaxial cable! order it on online store, they are half the price. Other than that, i've loved it so far, and hopefully we will continue to love it long in to the future.

L. Walsh, Kansas says

I was skeptical of how well this antenna would work. I live in chicago. I live in a 3 floor apartment building on the first floor. My neighbor's building blocks the sky in the direction of the towers. Could this antenna possibly bring in a clear signal in this scenario? . . Yes! although it was not easy to find the best placement in my apartment. But i do not deduct any stars for that, as that is just the nature of the technology. My judgement stems totally from the antenna set-up in an optimal position to receive the signal. And it works almost flawlessly. . I saw "almost" flawlessly because i've had occasional moments of pixelation from time to time. But since my location here is far from ideal, i blame it on that, rather than the antenna. I'm sure if i had a clear view of the sky, things would be different. If you check out the picture attached to my review, you'll see my current set-up. My antenna is located on my wall in the corner, high up, next to the window. That wall faces the direction of all the antennas here in chicago. However, you can see the neighboring house there. It blocks the direct line of sight, but i still get all the signals! . . My initial placement took some time to master. Now, i will add that i am not connecting this antenna directly to my tv. I am hooking it up to my tablo dvr (which is a cool device that allows you to record over the air tv! ). The tablo allows me to move my antenna wherever it needs to go, and it connects to my tv via wi-fi. So i had that flexibility. Even with that said, it took me awhile to find the exact location to get all of the channels. Some locations would bring in most, but not all. After a couple hours of experimenting, i found it! near perfection. . For such a great price, and the amount of savings that this device can bring in the long term if you cut the cable cord, any initial set-up time is worth it. Please keep in mind that i am using this device a few miles from the towers in a major city. I can't speak for the antenna when using it a greater distance away. But for anyone in a major city, i think you'll be happy with this! i am.

A. Lynette, Wolverhampton

I'll keep this short. I had a hdtv antenna from monoprice (id 4729) and it was great. I had to think of an alternative because i removed everything on the wall except the tv and soundbar which means i had no where to put the antenna any longer. . Monoprice's antenna worked great. I got all the channels i needed, especially since it was powered (ac adapter). The bad thing is that you have to point it in the right direction to get all the channels perfectly. . With this leaf antenna i just put it in the back of my lcd tv so it's out of sight. It picks up almost all the channels. I am missing 7-1 (abc) in los angeles. I don't watch anything from abc so it's no biggie to me, but the monoprice antenna picked it up, granted it was pointed in the right direction. . So, for $35, it's not bad. I'd say get it as your first antenna rather than a replacement or alternative to a normal hdtv antenna otherwise you won't see a huge different. But for what it is, i can now have all the channels i need, it's hidden, doesn't need to be pointed in a direction, and doesn't need an ac adapter or hog up an outlet. . If i got channel 7-1, it would be a full 5 stars. . However, if you don't need to hide it and don't mind using an electrical outlet, for 1/2 the price, order the hdtv antenna from monoprice. Great price, great performance, great company.

O. Lara, South Gloucestershire says

I absolutely love having access to local hd channels, without paying the cable company! i was fortunate - there are a lot of channels in the omaha, ne area that come through on this. There are some channels that are a bit wobbly/static-y, but the stations i actually want to watch come in perfectly. . I'm also very pleased that it comes in both white and black on either side. I used the white pins to tack it to my white wall. I also appreciate the white coaxial cable that came with it. Of course, all the coax cable i already had was black, which would stand out like a sore thumb against my wall!

E. Rowe, Saarland

I needed to make the switch away from cable and my ever growing cable bill. Going up every few months for the same service. The last straw was when i called to see if there was any options for lowering my bill and the customer service rep excitedly gave me a great deal that offered less than what i had for a $20 increase, followed by the line that this will save me $40 off of the price increase that will be happening next month. I thanked her, hung up and came to online store. . I have never set up an antenna and i live in an area with lots of tall buildings. The area is very hard on cell phones with dropped signals and no signals for some providers so i suspected that the same difficulty may be present with television signals so i really didn't want to play around. I wanted something simple and effective. All of the reviews here lead me to believe that it would be a smart choice for me to go with the leaf antenna first. . Because of my location i did need to purchase a wilson electronics rg6 30 ft. Low loss coax extension cable (white) and a performance series female to female "f" barrel connector in order for the antenna to reach the window. In this location the antenna is able to pick up over 22 channels, some are duplicate channels broadcast from different locations, most of them are extremely clear. I may play with the location a bit to see if i can get one channel that i'd like to view, but even without that channel i am extremely pleased with the performance. . The only thing that i needed to do that i was unfamiliar with is that i needed to mess around in my options so that the antenna option was actually using the antenna as opposed to trying to read a cable signal. At first even though my television was set on the correct setting for antenna, it was not reading the antenna at all. Being an indoor antenna noob, i did a quick google search and found that this is a common issue with a quick fix. Once i found the place to change it i was able to do a channel search and all of these channels magically appeared and i had real live tv! . . Thank you to everyone who wrote reviews previously with your recommendations and tips. I found many of them helpful in both selecting this product and the product setup.

The price was unbeatable and this is very easy to hang. It really is as thin as it looks which makes it easy to hang on a wall or behind furniture. Naturally you want to get it as high as you can for the best reception. This is not an amplified antenna so you are still limited by your distance from the station, but it's one of the better ones on the market. As long as you are in a city and not deep in a valley, you should enjoy nice crisp reception. At my previous residence i had perfect reception of at least 2 dozen stations. Unfortunately i now live in a valley and i'm lucky if i can get three solid channels, but that's not the fault of the antenna.

I. Lindsey, Warrington

I bought this item when i canceled my cable, i have a smart tv so i only needed to pick up local stations to watch the news, day/night time basic cable shows. The antenna is very easy to install into the tv and onto the wall, i have to run a scan every time i move it thought, which is a little tedious but that's how it picks on the channels. I get about 10 channels in very clearly, a handful come in when they want but that might not be the antenna itself but the location at which i can put it in my home. I would suggest before buying a digital antenna to research your home's location and how to best display it on a wall (north, south facing, etc. ) then pick the best antenna for your location because that's how it works. This product has been working fine for what i need it to, i don't watch that much tv so it's perfect for me.

This thing is sweet! don't be fooled by its size and flimsiness when you open the box. I bought this antenna to place in our kitchen for our wall-mounted hdtv. Seeing that we already have the terk for the tv in the living room, i was very conscious of the fact that we needed an antenna that is designed with space-saving in mind. The terk is also a great product but it's clunky and it would not work in our kitchen. Anyway, just for the fun of it, i decided to compare these two products in terms of what they pick up in the living room. The result: a tie. Both products picked up 45 digital channels and 2 analog channels. However, outside of functionality, thus far, i'm casting my vote for the mohu based on not only its slim, sleek design, but also the fact that it does not have a power cord. It comes with only the antenna cord that plugs directly into your tv. Furthermore, the instructions were much better. They give you a four-step cheat sheet that could not make installation any easier. My final thought on this product is that i appreciate the fact that one side of the antenna is black while the other is white. This definitely gives you some aesthetic options when you decide on where to hang it. All in all, a good value. Shipping took about 10 days which was a bit disappointing considering that shipping was not free, but. Oh well.

I decided to finally "unplug" from cable and go strictly streaming and over the air digital. When the first (old school) antenna i bought from radio shack didn't work, a friend recommended these. And they're amazing! . . They screw into the cable jack on your tv and that's it! you put the flat leaf on the wall - higher up and near a window is better. You run the channel finder (in the set-up menu on most tvs) and see how many channels you can receive. You can move the leaf around and try it again and you may get more channels. See what works for you. I'm fortunate to live close to several tv stations & towers in a major metro area, so i can get about 39 channels. . I get all the regular broadcast channels (nbc, cbs, abc, cw, pbs) and many little gems, like movie channels set up by the networks and several different pbs channels. . I've been very satisfied with these antennas and they are easy to hide. If you can't hide them, you can also paint them to match your decor!

Top leaf tv antenna indoor mile range Review

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

S. Wanda, Rotherham says

This is a single-band antenna. That's in the description, but it bears repeating. It only receives uhf well. . Many tv stations are broadcasted at uhf, the higher frequency band, but there's still some in vhf, which is lower in frequency (similar frequency range as fm radio. ). . You should check something like tvfool dot-com first to see what over-the-air broadcast tv stations are available at your house, and whether any of the ones you want are vhf. Sites like that will also tell you the expected signal strength, and whether they think an indoor antenna will be sufficient, or if you also need a pre-amplifier, or maybe you just need a bigger antenna in the attic or on your roof. . I live in a large metro area with strong signals, and thought this would work to unobtrusively hide behind my tv cabinet. It doesn't really work for that, and i'll be trying something different.

. Carolyn, Maine

This is a nice product - it allows us to watch tv without having to pay for cable tv, which we don't watch much, nor do we miss it. When we get a local channel, it comes in very clear - as good as cable - but unfortunately, it is not as easy to find a place to hang the antenna as promised. We checked the site to see where and how far the stations are - 20 miles, so we bought the leaf 30. We had high hopes, but the only place that it works is by hanging in our front window, with the cable dangling in the room. As a result, we have to keep taking it down when we are not watching tv. Plus, if it is raining the signal is weak and it varies during the day and evening. Not sure if it is the distance or the signals. Anyway, we like it, but wish it worked better.

W. Candy, Hamburg says

I had very high hopes for this based on all the reviews, i was paying for very basic cable, pretty much local channels, and wanted to cut that off. But at least in my location it didn't work well enough to keep. I installed it, did the channel scan and got the expected 10 channels, but several of them were very poor reception - the picture would freeze up with all these little boxes of image trying to come in - unfreeze - freeze again. Tried installing it in about a dozen different locations in my den and finally the only location that worked completely, with no freezing up of the picture on those couple of channels at all, was if i taped the thing to the window - but that meant an ugly cable cord snaking from the tv to the window, which was just too unattractive to live with long term. If the unit were made with some kind of transmitter, where i could have the antenna in the window but then have it transmit to the set somehow. Then hands down i would have it. But stringing a cable between tv and window is just not a good option for me, so i returned it.

I bought this product based on reviews here on online store and on some research conducted on other sites. It advertises that it picks up tv signals within 30 miles, and in my experience this is somewhat true. I live 9. 8 miles from the closest broadcasting station, and this antenna picked up 2 of the 4 (the uhf channels) network channels as well as several other miscellaneous channels that i was not interested in receiving. I placed it high up in a sliding glass door after testing several locations. The channels picked up were crystal clear and without interference. However, as previously noted, it did not pick up 2 of the 4 channels i wanted. These two were hi-v, and although mohu insists that this antenna works fine for hi-v signals, it did not pick up either of the 2 i wanted despite being less than 10 miles away. . I ended up returning this antenna and purchasing an hd frequency cable cutter. It is considerably more expensive ($99), larger, and not as aesthetically pleasing. However, it did pick up the two hi-v channels i wanted and it came with an rg60 which is generally believed to be a significantly better carrier of tv signals.

E. Meghan, Tasmania says

This antenna gets and holds signals completely at random. I cannot get cbs, abc, or fox about 60% of the time, and certainly never when i actually need it. The worst part is that i rarely watch television (hence the reason i don't just get cable) and didn't have any reason to use the antenna until recently and now cannot exchange the antenna for the longer-range version even though i've used it twice and couldn't be less satisfied with it. I've tried every possible location i could think of, as high and as low (even though that's not the correct place) as i could manage and as close to the outside of the house as possible to allow the signal to easily get outside and broadcast, which really shouldn't be a problem anyways (it's not like i live in an underground concrete bunker). The only reason i didn't give this one star is because i assume that it's also possible that perhaps the television broadcast stations are also to blame somehow. However, it's worth mentioning that i live in a densely populated area of southern california and the broadcast station is well within 30 miles of my home (this antenna is supposed to be able to reach "30+ miles" according to the product description. )

V. Erickson, Bremen

The product in and of itself is very nice. It was easy to set up, picked up signals right away and was effortless. My issue with the product is more with mohu than with the actual antenna. You see, while this works great, i can't pick up cbs. I clicked on the link in the ad, the whole 9 yards. It wasn't until after i hooked up the antenna that i realized that the mohu link takes you to the information for the higher priced antenna and shows you the channels that can be picked up with that unit. In fact, i couldn't even click on the tab for this particular model. A bit of fault both ways on that one. Me for not noticing and mohu for pulling some shady s*. Now, from their standpoint, "hell yeah, got another one! " bravo, well played mohu. Make sure you're getting the antenna you want before buying this unit. Oh yeah, and ps, this model is available at home depot for $10 cheaper.

We got no reception. But, the customer service with this company is exceptional. I would definitely try using them again. Where we lived when we tried this antenna was in a small valley. We tried placing the antenna outside on our balcony and all over the apartment. Couldn't get a single channel. A little research online revealed that we were in a small dead zone. Long story short, do your research before hand and make sure you can get service in your area. If you're struggling to get service contact mohu, they seem to have good service, which is why i bumped this previously 2 star review up to 3. I'd try this company again if i was looking for over the air service and lived in an area with reception.

Q. Courtney, South Dakota

It works, sort of. I live in a condo and i think there's a lot of interference. There's one spot on my wall where i get half the broadcast channels, and other spot where i get the other half, but no happy medium, so i can't really channel surf. It's okay if i know what channel i want to watch. I had some success for a while putting a piece of aluminum foil on it, but that isn't working well right now. The included velcro bits stopped working after a while, and i put it up with command strips. On the plus side, it is very thin, white, and relatively unobtrusive. It definitely doesn't look like an antenna. It can be hard to find the right place to put it up, because your body acts as an antenna and amplifies the signal, so when you're holding it on the wall, you often get a good signal, but as soon as you put the thing up (i recommend using some duct tape until you find a good area) and let go of it, the signal becomes very poor.

This thing is very slim and somewaht flimsy which makes you question why it costs $40. . It does pick up a lot of stations. Though i am on the 6th floor in brooklyn and am one of the higher building around. But sadly not cbs. Which my $25 rabbit ears from radio shack did pick up. . However, it's also very temperamental about being in exactly the right horizontal position. Which when you have three kids and two dogs in the house your apartment is very easy to knock it off kilter. Which also means many of the shows that are being tivo'd are all broken up. . I reverted to the rabbit ears to regain cbs and not have an antenna as sensitive as this one. If i had a longer wire and taped it up high it might have worked better but i don't have the time to see if i can get this thing working. So sadly not a success and i wouldn't buy it again.

Update 2 jun 2013:. . The mohu leaf fell off the wall and the plastic bracket was misaligned. I noticed the tabs were broken during the impact, so i took it apart to see what was inside. Apparently the antenna is just a large flat sheet of foil. The coax cable is soldered to a small pcb board with 2 contacts that touch the antenna. It's not even soldered or connected in any substantial way. I'd say each mohu leaf probably costs $1-$2 in materials. The leaf was getting great reception at first, but i noticed it slowly started to lose reception on certain stations. Once i got reception with fox (ch 2) i couldn't get reception with abc (ch 7). I am downgrading it to 3 stars because i am experiencing the same reception issues with another leaf i have. It started out great but slowly it has degraded for some reason. The construction and quality is also very poor. . Mohu leaf. . I bought and installed the mohu leaf for my hdtv because comcast kept raising its prices, and the only tv service i had was limited basic - essentially broadcast basic but in standard definition. They wanted more money for hd, so i had always kept it standard definition for the discount on my cable internet. In the end, i gave the mohu leaf a try after seeing it recommended in a magazine as well as all of the positive reviews on online store. . In michigan, the terrain is mostly flat with limited tall buildings in the suburbs. Most of the broadcast towers in southeast michigan are located in the southfield/royal oak region, so i aimed my mohu in that general region. It managed to pick up 20-26 channels with minor adjustment. I ended up picking a spot that got all of the major stations (abc, fox, nbc, cbs, cw) in hd. My first reaction was, "omg. " because the stations came in crisp, clear, and 16:9 format. I could see facial hairs and loose hair strands on actresses and the broadcasts came in sharp. . I have never tried another "hd" indoor antenna so i can't compare the mohu leaf to those products, but the leaf worked within 5 minutes of opening the package. I have no complaints and the cost savings are actually quite sizable! i no longer have to pay comcast to watch the same stations in standard definition. . Overall: 5/5 stars, worked great for me although our region is very flat with limited tall buildings. The leaf did have issues with stations that were about 20 miles away and required adjustment.

Didn't receive the channels antennaweb stated we should get. If we sit just so, we can get a few of the channels to work. We don't live in a valley and i put the receiver near a window facing the direction of the signals we were most interested in getting. When we contacted the company about this and told them we weren't getting the in-range channels, they were unwilling to facilitate a refund. Over time, it's gotten worse, we used to be able to get pbs and nbc but those have dropped off. The cord could be longer as well.

I recently dropped directtv. When i phoned directtv to cancel, the representative on the line tried to save the account. She told me that i have been a valued customer since 2008. My daughter did the simple math of $108. 00 per month for roughly 60 months totaling over $6, 000. 00 wasted. I am pissed at my stupidity. I first went to best buy and purchased a simple pair of rabbit ear antennas for hdtv. I was shocked on how well they worked. My only problem with them was they did not look all that great next to my equipment. I looked into a better alternate to the rabbit ears and saw the leaf antenna. For less than forty bucks, i said"what the hell? " when i first hooked them up i was only partially satisfied. I did not receive as many channels as the rabbit ears. After playing around for 4 hours positioning the leaf in many directions, i got it to work well. The unit is well concealed and does not cut out too much. When you try the mohu leaf out, please be patient with it. I got mine to work and i am satisfied. You can't beat free tv! . . Revised review. I have now owned the mohu leaf for a month and a half and have down graded my review from 4 stars to 3. This antenna is only as good as the weather is. I live in sunny california and the climate is generally good. I was down to just a few watchable channels during the recent wind and later rain storms. I do not count the endless foreign channels as watchable. Sometimes abc worked well and fox was out of commission. Other nights it was the exact opposite. What do you do in this case? i have made all the adjustments i can make. Many times just walking pass the antenna will cause a weak signal to flash on the television. In summary, a pair of ten dollar rabbit ears from best buy has worked best for me. I was just trying to be a bit more stylish with the leaf antenna as it is more concealable. If you don't mind the hideous looks of the rabbit ears, don't pay any more than you have to with the leaf antenna.

U. Hadley, Ealing says

After initially ordering this, i did a lot of research on hdtv antennas (that i probably should have done before) and learned that you really have to try a few different antenna before finding one that really works. We live 23 miles from nyc and, in theory, should have no trouble receiving signal at our house. I figured this would be a discreet way to use an antenna for the regular tv channels - was very wrong about that. First, the direction suggest you hang the antenna as high as possible on the wall. It was my own fault for not reading the directions before purchasing, but i found it quite ridiculous to buy this supposedly discreet antenna only to have wires hanging all up your walls. Our house is siding over stucco, which apparently was problematic as well, so we didn't get a lot of channels. When we attempted to hang the antenna from a window (in a precarious location that could not have been sustained), we got a handful of additional channels but still lacked all the major networks - we switched in and out of having access to three of the major networks, which was the entire reason we got an antenna in the first place. I was frustrated, of course, but after reading some additional articles on antennas i learned that it's often a game of guess and check. This particular antenna didn't work for us (after buying 3 others, we settled on the rca multi-directonal flat digital antenna, which provided all the networks and was able to be located more discreetly), but that doesn't mean it won't work for someone else. Just know that if you purchase this item, you might have to return it and try a variety of others before you land on one you like. On the plus, online store is great as always with returns which made purchasing multiple antennas much less of a hassle.

It was not bad. It was very easy to set up and use. We live in an older home about 15 miles out of minneapolis, and we struggled to get consistent quality in terms of picture. We originally placed this behind out television on the mantle of our fireplace, the picture would freeze and skip. We tried attaching it to our bay window, with little improvement. I cannot say with certainty that it was the result of the product, and not my home, but we were unable to use this as an alternative to cable. . For the price it is worth a try, but we decided to return ours.

. Zelda, Nordrhein-Westfalen says

When it works. It's great! however, i found it too inconsistent at providing a really strong signal. You move the antennae around for hours to get the perfect spot to receive the most amount of channels and it's fine for a few days. Then after a few days it loses the signal and you have to rescan. Or start moving the antenna around the room all over again and repeat the process to fine the optimum placement for the most channels. . Also, walking thru the path of the antenna can also cause the signal to be lost. - so, again when it works. It's great (with great picture quality that stacks up well, if not better, than cable). . Might be great for those living in tall buildings with no interference or anything that blocks the signal path.

I wanted a tv antenna that was very inconspicuous in my living room. Came across the mohu leaf and thought i'd give it a try. Id like to start at the part where they state that it is reversible, but what i found was that reversing from black or white meant i would lose a channel. The difference of a 1/4 inch in place! sent can't mean a world of difference. I'm in nyc and have a hard time getting nbc, abc and cw11 at the same time. Its either nbc and one of the other. Fox only worked when i couldn't pick up nbc. I did notice though that abc runs on vhf and is more than 10mls away from me whereas the antenna is only rated up to 10mls for vhf. Uhf is the only thing its really gonna get you at 30mls. Im returning this one and gonna give the mohu 50 a try. I have my fingers crossed as all of my favorite fall shows are coming back on.

L. Teresa, Arkansas says

Just got the leaf the other day and hooked it up in less than five minutes. It connects directly to our hdtv, and it does not need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. . In my opinion, the advantages of the leaf antenna over one with rabbit ears is, well, no unsightly rabbit ears that might catch you in the face as you walk thru the room, it takes up a lot less space, and you can hang it flat on the wall. . Is it a miracle-working device that is 10 times better than any indoor antenna out there? no. It performs the same as our other indoor antenna (with rabbit ears), picking up the same number of stations. . If you need an indoor antenna that is going to take up less room and be a little more inconspicuous and mobile (eg. You can tack the leaf to any wall, hang it next to a window, etc. , and it's about the size of a piece of printer paper) than what you have or what you've seen out there, then go with the leaf. I personally feel that it's a bit pricy, but it does have those advantages to consider. But if you're like me and looking for an antenna that is going to pick up more stations than your current indoor antenna because your local stations are all over the map and not in one direction (check antennaweb. Org to see where yours are located), then maybe consider getting a rooftop antenna (it seems that one can be picked up for a comparable price to the leaf).

C. Rhonda, Idaho

This picks up local hd channels beautifully. The picture is just as nice as it ever was with cable. (it might even be a little nicer than cable. ) it can be a little difficult to get just the right angle to pick up all of the channels that are out there, so in that way it's a little temperamental, but this could be due to the quality of our local broadcasts or even our local geography rather than to the quality of the antenna. Overall it does an absolutely lovely job and i'd recommend it to anyone who wants free local hd channels. . Update, may 13, 2014: i've had to deduct two stars from this review (from 5 stars to 3) because, after months of using this antenna, i've discovered that its performance can be intermittent. I'm hardly an expert on such matters, so i can't be sure if the antenna, the signals from the television stations, the weather, or my planets being in the wrong house is to blame; nevertheless, this review in part is meant to suggest whether or not it's worth it to buy an hd antenna in order to get free hd channels. That being the case, i'm not sure that it is worth it; when the channels come in, they come in clearly and sound beautifully, but the interruptions caused by an unreliable signal makes the viewing experience, at times, thoroughly frustrating.

R. Hakala, Derbyshire says

This antenna worked great with the digital converter tv box. Helps receive the basic tv channels. The overall design is very ergonomic. Very light, flat and small. Has two different sides, one side black and the other white. Can be easily hung with scotch tape to any window. The sun will eventually melt the double sides velco is comes with. I don't believe this can receive powered or amplified signals. From boxes that can boost its antenna signal from an internal amplifier.

J. Rowe, Brent

I live in northwest las vegas and most of the tv antennae are located on black mtn henderson about 28 miles straight-line distant from our house, there are no intervening geographical features (i can see black mtn clearly with binocs). Nonetheless, the cbs station klas has spotty reception; all other local stations are fine. For comparison: klas (8), 30. 1kw, ksnv (3) 27. 7kw; kvvu (5), 86kw; klvx (10), 105kw; and ktnv (13), 30. 5kw. I can't use the leaf 30 antenna unless it receives all local channels clearly. Btw don't ask me if i moved it around. Of course i did! i wanted to get off cable. I tried everything i knew how-except putting it outside.

I have my mohu mounted on my bedroom wall. The sticky strips they provided didnt hold, but my own double stick tape works great. I got this on sale for 25 bucks. I get about 25 channels in hd, though sometimes i get some interference, but rarely. I really only watch the local channels because the rest of them dont really show anything that anyone under 90 watches. Though a few spanish channels do come in as well. I watch most of my fav shows online, and my smart tv gets hulu and netflix, so i cut the cable chord. I do like having the local channels to watch the news and late night without paying the cable company, so it's a win. I would recommend the mohu, but make sure you check your area for a good tv signal. My home is in the green zone, so i was good. . Update: 6-12-14. I have a standard mohu leaf in my bedroom & it works perfectly. But the same mohu leaf, will not work in my living room. (barely get 3 channels). I bought the "mohu 50" amplified for 68 bucks to use on my living room tv, and that one struggled too. Returned it and looking at other options now. What i'm saying is, 1 room and a different wall can be the difference between free tv and no tv. However, being only 30 feet away, and using the amplified version that's 2 times the price (tried in over 20 different spots) should have worked. Lowered to 3 stars. Online store took it back for a full refund! thank you.

This review will probably help apartment dwellers the most. I ordered the leaf since i recently was forced to switch over to dsl and my apartment complex doesn't allow any kind of antenna's on the patios. To set up my current location i am on the second floor of a apartment complex. My living room tv is set up next to a large sliding door/window that opens onto my deck. My bedroom tv has a ge from big lots but whereas my living room to second bedroom are technically on the second floor, my master bedroom is technically the top floor since the apartment above me is a 1 bedroom and his bedroom ends at my master bedroom's door. Weird set up but it is kinda needed to explain my issues because while i am not completely impressed by the leaf i don't believe it is completely the leaf's fault. In the master bedroom with the leaf or the ge i receive 16 channels no issue including nbc, abc, fox, and cbs. I am mainly concerned with getting abc, fox, and cbs so while nbc is nice it doesn't bother me if i don't get it. Now if i move the leaf into the living room i find that no matter where i put it i have to make the choice of getting cbs or nbc. For whatever reason the signal in the living room will pick up the same 16 channels from the bedroom but either cbs or nbc will give me a weak or no signal depending on placement. I have sacrificed nbc for cbs since i don't really watch nbc. The ge from big lots on the other hand has an amplifier and picks up all the channels in the living room but it requires me to move it around on a regular basis. So with the big lots receiver it has the advantage of being far more mobile and i am able to pick up any station i want. The downside is that i have to adjust it just right so it picks up what channels i want and sometimes i have a cut out which is terrible during an important scene. The leaf while multi directional picks up what it picks up and that seems to be that since i can't move it around. It does have the advantage though in the fact i don't have to move it around and what it does pick up seems to be coming in loud and clear without any cut outs. So if you just want convenience i think the leaf provides that and i have noted the picture seems to come in a little clearer over the ge model. If you want to get all your channels i think the ge is just fine but downside is that it requires you to maneuver it around, the pictures and sound may cut out unexpectedly, and it creates more clutter with the cables. Now i think i have a unique situation being on the second floor and smack dab in the middle row of the apartments, for being sandwiched in the middle i think the leaf does perform fairly well but from the review i was expecting the jesus of antennas. I think this would be a great choice if you are either the top floor or higher up at the very least. If you have a house and have more windows than just a sliding glass door it will probably perform better. Am i going to return it though? probably not despite the draw backs it has won me over with the stationary placement and the clear picture and voice.

Note: i am reviewing this based on sub-urban environment. I have tried the cloth hanger antenna (using new copper wire), rca rabbit ear with circle at the center, winegard flat antenna, rca flat antenna, ge futura pre-amp antenna, outdoor directional yagi type and this mohu leaf 1st gen. (2nd gen has detachable cable). . After testing 6 different antennas, i'd like to summarize 3 key points. 1. ) location of the antenna matter. 2. ) direction of where the antenna face matter. 3. ) size of the antenna helps if you use an amplifier it would be better for "some" cases. . 1. ) location of where you place the antenna is the biggest factor how good of reception you will get. Most of the major towers are 25-30 miles away on the northerly east, (between 17 -20 degree), others are like east ( 87-90 degree angle) . Unfortunately, living room is on the west side, so, indoor antenna has to face west. Despite this issue, i can still get around 80+ channels with different antennas. However, there are 5 and sub channels i really like would just keep dropping. Most of them are at around 19 degree direction. There is a big difference on number of channels i get, on where i put the antenna, in terms of both "detecting" channel and getting reception. If i put it high on the wall (approx. 6 feet from ground), the reception is better. Every time i scan it, doesn't matter which antenna, i get about the same 100 channels. If i put it on desk level, i usually only get 84. Also, channel with weak signals, it make a bigger difference if i move the antenna to more open or facing windows location. . Given this situation, i'd like to point out about the "not-so-hang-able" antennas. The rabbit ear futura, because it cannot hang onto the wall as easy as the leaf, it makes it a problem. So does the cloth hanger. However, with you put it on the same location, the reception is about the same. Interesting to note this, the ge futura does more poorly on this, even with its only amplifier, it has not difference than the rabbit year. In case channel, it is worse. Cloth hanger seems like a different species. I have to hold it diagonally to get good reception on some weak signal channels. In this case, both flat antennas (rca and mohu) find a good balance, both got around 100 channels. . 2. ) direction matter - i was a little surprise about it. It is particularly important on weak signal channels. If i move it to like 20 to 30 degree angle from the wall, i can get it from no signal to "semi-signal" on the leaf and the rca flat. It isn't much the case for rabbit ear and cloth hanger. . 3. ) size and amplifier helps - the physical size of the antenna helps. The bigger, the more signal you can capture. I tried 3 different rca flat antennas, from the smallest under ten to the larger ant 1600, there is a difference in number of channels you get. Note: only number of channels, not signal strength. For me, channel abc was a little weak, it would get pixelized, but still watchable. I would say the signal strength is around 60-70 %. In this case, i use an amplifier, it helps. The channel because very "watchable" even if i move the antenna a little . However, the amplifier doesn't help if the signal is originally weak, like at 10-25% . The thickness of the leaf is another benefit, it is thin, slim and light. These characteristic really differentiate. From others. Only the wineguard can compare to this thinness. On the 1st gen, the thinness is support by a "thicker" laminate plastic. The result is positive, making it "stand-able" by itself. The wineguard was too thin to stand by itself. . Overall, i have to give mohu to product a nice and "hang-able" antenna. Even if it is placed flat, it can still get decent reception. However, the ability to hang onto the wall, and look nice, that's a major improvement. Does it worth msrp at forty? from manufacturing cost standpoint, i don't think so. From r&d + manufacturing, may be. I think twenty is more reasonable. . .

Before i start my review, i should inform everyone i live in a big city in a rowhome and this antenna is set up in my basement right next to my window. If this affects reception, one should take note. . Unboxing this thing i noticed it really is super light and almost feels like poster board between clear contact paper. Which i guess is a good thing. But it's perplexing why the the velcro stickers that the antenna came with can't seem to support the weight of this super light antenna. It kept falling down and was a nightmare to keep mounted. I eventually had to run out to an arts and crafts supplier to buy more velcro supports for it, and since then, havent had a major problem. . Anyway, about the antenna and it's reception, it's good. Not great. Not excellent. But good. My first night i took it home and it actually stayed mounted for 12 whole hours, i was able to scan lots of channels and get reception in this room i never got before. If i did this review that night i would have given it 4 or 5 stars because i was happy in that moment. But this picks up zero vhf channels. Which in my area means no abc and no pbs. May not seem like a big deal to you, but considering the $8 antenna i had before could at least pick up these channels if i am in perfect conditions, it's a knock against the $40 product. However, the channels i do get are mostly clear with fairly good signals. Of course, if it's even remotely cloudy outside the reception gets a little spotty, but i guess if i'm being realistic i can't expect an indoor antenna to be 100% clear in less than perfect weather conditions. Still, i somewhat expected more considering the stellar reviews this thing got. Maybe it's my fault for getting my hopes up. . I'm giving it 3 stars because no other antenna gave me this many channels on my hdtv. So that's a good thing. But those channels it picks up come in and out depending on the weather. And it does cost $40 so it's not cheap and it has less than stellar reception. So keep in mind this is not a bad review. If you are in an upstairs bedroom or apartment i can imagine this being a great antenna for you if you can mount it next to a window. In my situation, it's not great. This room got horrible reception on my $8 antenna so this is an improvement. I'm not regretting buying it but i'm not blown away either, and i think 3 stars is more than fair in this situation.

Works like it should, have to find the sweet spot to get all the channels to come in properly. They make it look sleek in the pictures but in person it is not very nice to look at. Its just a thin cheap looking piece of plastic with two holes at the top for push pins and the white base at the bottom is a different shade of white (more yellow). Also the cable they use that attaches at the bottom its not finished at all, the connector looks like a regular ugly cable you'd plug in at the back of your tv hidden out of site. Doesn't look very nice hanging on the wall but it's better than paying for cable. They make a curved version that can sit next to your tv which looks much nicer but i'm concerned if it would get good reception.

All of our stations are within 12 miles of the house. The tv and leaf antenna are on the ground level floor of the house, antenna hung at 6' on the exterior wall. The leaf is "facing" all but one station, which is 90 degrees off, so it faces the thin edge of the leaf. This station has a poor signal reception. I turned the leaf on a 45 degree angle, so now it seems to get all the stations, and a few about 20 miles away. I would probably not recommend this unit if you have to receive from multiple directions, it just doesn't work like they say. I would probably try a cheapo uhf antenna for use with close stations in multiple directions, i think it would probably work as well or better.

I connected the mohu leaf at the recommendation of some other boxee tv users. I had been using an rca hdtv antenna and while that worked to receive 26 ota channels, i expected the mohu would hold the signal a bit better. The unit is very thin, appears as though you could almost paint it to match the garage wall. The copper connection is short, requires an extension even for a short 10' run. I expected this to shine, really it didn't. I checked with other users and they suggested going with the powered/amplified version. At first i left the antenna in place without rescanning. This netted a decent signal and the channels while not worse than te rca antenna. Wasn't as good. I decided to rescan the channels and see if the antenna could get a good grab, while sunny and clear the antenna found less channels than the rca antenna. I moved the antenna higher, and the result wasn't any better. I tried moving the antenna to the living room, plugging it into my stand alone led tv and still didn't have any luck pulling any more than 8 channels ota. Ultimately i've decided to return the mohu leaf. I may look into the amplified version, but for now my $15 rca antenna from fry's is working out just fine.
