Review for smartcam full hd outdoor wifi

Price was 249. Recently my logitech alert 750e died. While not a perfect solution i liked the fact it recorded media locally for later playback. When logitech discontinued the product i knew it was a matter of time before i needed to look for an alternate solution. I just "assumed" dropcam would be that solution. As i started my review process i realized dropcam was not the answer. I was looking for a solution that could a) store the video locally b) stream live content as well as recorded content to smartphones c) send notifications to my phone d) night vision and e) have motion detection. Dropcam, from what i could tell, does not store video locally. Also, based on reviews it sounded like the video quality was a bit iffy and honestly, the subscription fees are a bit steep for being reliant on the cloud to deliver everything you need (sometimes no internet connection is available). . This unit is tiny - i was actually surprised by how small it is. The two piece design works perfectly with ample cable length to ensure the hub portion is indoors. Physical set up was easy. I did have a little trouble getting the camera set up through the app on my phone. On the third attempt all went through and it hasn't gone down since. . Installation - easy. Video quality - pretty good. Motion detection - can be set sensitive enough to sense a fly - very good. Mobile app - the ui is dated - average. . Would i recommend or buy? yes. I have recommended this camera to many people and will likely buy a second one.

Prologue

I have a love/hate relationship with my samsung smartcams. Overall, they are good. For the life of me, i can't get it to connect to google services for cloud storage, so that's a huge knock on it. It does have a memory card slot, so i have some 64gb cards in each one, but i'd rather have access on the cloud. . Every once in a while i'll have trouble accessing the camera, and i will notice on samsung's smartcam page that their servers are down for maintenance. I'm not sure if things are still recording or not, as i have tested that. . I do like the fact that i can check in on home while i'm away, or check to see what's going on outside without getting up yeah, i'm lazy sometimes, and this is a big help. . The motion detector is pretty sensitive. At night, if a car drives by with lights on, it will set off the motion sensor, i have it turned down to the least sensitive setting. The alerts may get a bit annoying at night if your vibrating phone wakes you. Samsung smartcam full hd outdoor snh-e6440bn 1080p wifi ip camera Review (snh e6440bmr)

Perfect, the 128 degree view covered the entire front of my home, from fence line to my neighbors next door. I am able to see across my street. It's a great quality, no slowing down our wifi, alerts us when anything comes thru. It's wonderful. No more guessing when the mail has come, no more wondering if a box arrived when i'm not home, i know! it also lets me know when people show up uninvited and give us a 1 minute warning to pretend we are not home. -. PROS
  • I don't write many reviews, but this camera is worth it. Connected easily to our wifi, and the resolution is far better than i expected. I didn't even realize until the 2nd day that a clear protective plastic sheet was over the lens. The app is also very useful as it can be set to notify you when motion is detected and/or sound. The night vision is surprising good also. This is the only unit i was able to find that is powered over the ethernet cable, so no other adapter is necessary. I haven't had a chance to play with adding a memory card to see how much recording can be stored.
  • Great camera for the money. Works great in the day as well as at night. You can view the camera anywhere, anytime from your smart phone!
CONS
  • The best way i can describe it: just good enough so i don't return it. . The good:. Looks good. Size - when placed inside but viewing out a window, its almost invisible unless you're very close to the house. The image quality is good. Sd card recording. Good in low light. Its probably better to use this camera with a wired ethernet connection vs wireless, but wireless is ok if base is placed where there is a reasonably strong signal from your wireless router/access point. . The bad:. Instructions are horrible. Web server internal to the camera does not let you configure certain things, instead you need to go to to do certain things like firmware upgrade (so i'm told, mine was already at latest firmware) and basically anything you notice that doesn't work when you are pointed at the camera's web server. Its as though they gave up on the camera's web server mid-way through development. Ipad app tells you to use the "integrated viewer" but its not found in the app store. Buggy, wireless disconnects easily. At highest resolution ("high" network setting) it *seems* to disconnect more. Too many filler pages when refreshing/changing settings/modes on the samsung web page. This one is my fault: i don't like the wide angle. Yes it covers my whole front yard but everything is tiny. I could not get the email notification working, and eventually gave up out of frustration. I have a panasonic bb531 camera on at my ski condo and that was a breeze to configure for smtp email notification. For some reason, samsung does not let you configure the wireless ip as static. I ended up using a dhcp reservation on my router to workaround that deficiency. My goal was to get a camera to keep an eye on my driveway (deliveries, plow guy, etc. ), and this camera meets that goal, nothing more.
  • I purchased this camera almost a year ago. It stops recording video about every 30 days and must be restarted, meaning you must be at the camera site to do so. Impossible to do when i'm out of town, and need it most. Samsung is aware of the problem and has ignored requests to fix it, or update the software/firmware to correct the problem. I've since purchased the trivision nc-335pw which has many other features and beats the samsung camera in every way!
  • The camera itself is okay, it's the software that blows the whole deal. Push notifications are unreliable at best. Motion detection notices every time my shrubs rustle in the breeze, but will sometimes miss someone walking up my driveway. There is no way - i repeat, no way - to download the video that's captured when the camera detects an event in either the ios app or via the web; it stores it on the internal sd card, but in order to pull it off there i guess you have to go pull the card out of the thing, put it in a computer, and manually copy the file(s) over. That is flat-out ridiculous. The ui for both the ios app and the web app are terrible, the web app doesn't work in chrome or safari (it's supposed to work in safari, but it fails), the service is frequently unreachable, it's just bad all around. . Samsung have been saying for months they're working on these things, but nothing's getting any better. If i had it to do over again i'd find something else. I went with this one because finding a weatherproof outdoor security camera that does wifi and push notifications to smart phones is challenging. If i'd known it would only barely work i'd have kept looking.

Pretty easy to set up. I would have wished that it were more solidly built for outdoor environments. I had to place it into an improvised enclosure.

Click to see NoticeSamsung Smartcam Full Hd Outdoor Snh-e6440bn 1080p Wifi Ip Camera (snh e6440bmr)"I first bought a dropcam, and returned it for the samsung smartcam since the constant uploading with the dropcam negatively effected my high speed internet. I am satisfied with the purchase, but i am hoping samsung improves the app that is used to adjust camera settings and video playback. With the flir fx camera that was just announced today, i would seriously consider that option instead of the smartcam since the flir fx camera offers ip67, local micro sd storage, integrated mic/speaker, smarter motion grid, and unlike the dropcam it only uploads video to the cloud when a motion/audio event occurs. . Pros:. -easy setup. -good nighttime picture quality (with streetlights and nightvision turned off). -no issues with remote viewing when using cat6 wire through a gigabit switch (i have 2 samsung smartcams). -small and discrete (you can barely notice the camera from the street especially if you don't turn on nightvision leds). . Cons:. -installation screws are relatively short. -no way to extract video through the app; you have the take the microsd card out and insert into a computer. -large hole that you need to drill since the wire that connects to the camera is fixed and rj12 instead of micro usb (like dropcam). -app for ios and web is cumbersome and non-intuitive for a person who is not technically inclined. -can't have separate zones and corresponding alerts identifying motion in a specific zone (like dropcam). -motion setting is dumb; you can only have three rectangular shapes to create a zone. -i know others have used 64gb microsd; but samsung only recommends 32gb (3 days continuous). -speaker/mic is not packaged into the camera; you have to purchase these separately and they connect to the module not the camera"

(0) Question: What size hole is needed to route the camera wire through a wall?

(1) Question: The camera snh-1011n says it does not work with apple routers, does this one (snh-e6440bn)?

(2) Question: Could i connect the "body" of the camera to a "hot spot" (vs ethernet as stated here). not sure if that is possible with any of these devices. help!

Samsung SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor

Smartthings (samsung) makes the best iot devices. This is my 76th device for my home setup and as usual, this device was easy to setup and get up and running. As a side note, this device is actually being used on an outside door (covered patio in the az weather), where it continues to perform very well.

The most versatile device in the samsung smartthings family, this sleek zigbee device acts as a movement, vibration, orientation and temperature sensor all in one. The smartthings multipurpose sensor can detect whether an object like a door or drawer is open or closed; sense when valuable or off-limits items have been moved or tampered with; offer temperature readings; and feel vibration. It requires the smartthings hub. Smartthings offers a one-year limited warranty on this product. Troubleshooting steps: if your device doesn t connect after removing the "remove to pair" tab, hold the connect button while inserting the battery. Release the button when the led is lit. The led will blink blue while attempting to connect. Then select connect new device in the smartthings app. Note: check user manual in technical specification before use.

- T. SusanNotice: i know a lot of people might complain about this so i want to bring it up first. You'll notice that after not very much time, maybe a month or less, the battery life will drop to 88% or something like that. Don't worry. That's just because of the formula they use to calculate the battery life. I have some door sensors that have been at 88% for months. When the battery gets down to around 50%, i recommend replacing them as they start to become unreliable i have found (based on 1 case so far). . I love these things, and i'm constantly thinking of new uses for them. I have one on all of my exit doors on the house as well as a few internal doors. These provide so much peace of mind for me, not to mention very useful for automation. . Just some examples:. I have one on my office door because i have a couple guinea pigs and i also have a couple of huskies. The huskies and the pigs don't really get along so i have to make sure i keep the office door closed, especially when i leave for the day. It's nice when i leave the house that if i'm unsure if i closed the door, i don't have to run back in, i can just check smartthings. . I also have automations set up to turn certain lights on and off, move my security cameras, send me notifications when i'm not home, etc. . I haven't had any reliability issues, except for one time so far (i have 6 of these) and that was because the battery was too low, so i replaced it. And this was the first one i've had to replace the battery on in nearly a year. Batteries are cheap people, so if you're investing $40 in a door sensor, don't complain about replacing a cheap battery once a year.

Samsung smart things multipurpose sensor works fine!

  • Monitor secure areas of your home and be alerted if a door, window, cabinet or drawer opens unexpectedly
  • We recommend placing the hub in an open area well away from other devices transmitting and receiving 2. 4ghz signals (like wifi routers). if the signal needs to penetrate walls or floors, we generally recommend sensors be placed within 30 ft of the hub, or that a device that can act like a zigbee repeater (such as a smartthings outlet) be placed between the two devices to boost the range.
  • The versatile multipurpose sensor is an all-in-one sensor that can detect vibration, orientation and angle (tilt), temperature and when things open or close
  • Get a reminder if you forgot to close your front door or garage door

Samsung SmartThings Smart Home Hub

Excellent product. My first smart home hub product was the wink. While i was able to pair it to my garage door sensor (zwave), front door lock (zwave), a couple of outside lights (zwave) and the nest thermostat. It had a huge delayed, the problem was that it was a wireless device only (it had no rj45/ethernet data port). So whenever i send a command or request status update of a device, it would take up to 20 seconds to respond. I return it for a full refund. I got this one instead because it has a rj45/ethernet data port. It connects directly to my router. Also repairing the devices from the wink to the smartthings hub was no problem. All devices work perfectly. Also i am able to set specific tasks to perform whenever a device gives up a specific status (such as my own cellphone, when leaving the house, make sure the lock is set) and a bunch of other tasks. In addition, it is open source and there is a community that is growing and building custom tasks/apps that solve specific problems (wink doesn't have that). For example, nest thermostat support is not officially supported but through the community, you are easily able to add it. Great product, easy to use, lots of features, easy to configure, it had a rj45 port and it has a compartment for backup with aa batteries which even comes included!

Smartthings lets you easily control, monitor, and secure your home from anywhere in the world. The heart of your smart home, the samsung smartthings hub will connect all of your different smart locks, lights, outlets, thermostats, and more and let you control them from the free smartthings app. Receive notifications about what's happening in and around your home and use your smartphone to remotely control your home's security, energy usage, lighting, and more. Since smartthings is compatible with a wide variety of smart devices from different companies, once you have the smartthings hub and the free app for ios, android, or windows, you can add as many additional smartthings sensors or other popular z-wave, zigbee, or internet-connected products as you want to enhance your connected home. The samsung smartthings hub works in the us and canada. If the honeywell programmable thermostat was not detected, you may need to reset the device through a z-wave exclusion before it can successfully connect with the smartthings hub. To do so in the smartthings mobile app: 1. Tap the menu 2. Tap the hub 3. Tap z-wave utilities 4. Tap general device exclusion 5. When prompted: 1. Press the system button on the left side of the thermostat's display 2. Press and hold the blank center button until the display changes 3. The first set of numbers/arrows is the "function" section - scroll until you find "rf10" 4. The second set of numbers/arrows is the "setting" section - select 0 5. Press done in the lower left corner to save and exit after the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from smartthings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the honeywell programmable thermostat. Samsung Smartthings Smart Home Hub (f hub us 2) FAQ.

There is a lot to like about this system! . 1. Easy to set up. Easy. 2. So many things (basically all the 'internet of things' type equipment) connects to it. 3. Did i say it was easy to set up? . . So, why not 5 stars? . . Basically, the app. It is good, but needs improvement. Whenever there is an alert, you go to check the app and it takes a few seconds to refresh. Not a huge deal, but it gets a bit annoying after awhile. . We are still getting used to how the system works and fine tuning how the alarms trigger, but it really helps knowing what is going on in the home (using it primarily for security right now). -Notice from W. Nielsen, Michigan

I originally had some issues getting the hub to connect (got the flashing blue light) and stay connected to my network but after a phone call to customer support we got it working. But, this was not plug and play for me so i take a 1/2 star for that. I only have a single device currently, the schlage be469 lock. This paired immediately and gave me basic control. But who wants just basic control when you can have it all? not me! . Actually the whole point of the lock and hub for me was to manage a remote lock at our vacation rental 90 miles away. So i needed a way to manage the lock from afar. It *seems* like there are two options for this (its confusing on the st forums so i might be wrong). But the rboy name kept popping up. So i shelled out the $35 for a lifetime supply of rboy apps, followed their instructions for installing the smart app lock manager and device handler and absolutely love it. The only thing i'll take another 1/2 star for is that st does not yet allow the smart apps to do local processing. Come on samsung, this is huge! so the rboy lock manager let's me set a code that begins working at 3:00 on some date and expires after 12:00 noon on a later day, which is super cool. And it works. As long as you have internet at those specific times/dates. I know you need internet to set up the schedule, but it should be allowed to store that on the hub and then execute locally without need for internet. Even if it could pre-fetch 24-48 hours worth of scheduled tasks would give me a little peace of mind.

- B. GuestWhen you need help with code to make devices work fully the way they should see rboyapps dot c m. Some devices you buy and install are seen as the wrong device type or the closes device type doesn't use all the sensors. Roy boy writes all sorts of scrips for all sorts of devices. We chat regularly about ongoing projects. Requests are filled on a regular. His stuff is so good i bought a lifetime membership even if i'll have everything i need in a week or 2. . Rboyapps has saved 3 devices for me so far. I would have trashed them without their help. Saved me 4 times the cost of membership! great deal and awesome personal service.

At first, i was apprehensive about buying this hub after reading the mixed reviews. I did some research and homework on what home automation hub and environment i would invest in. I narrowed it down to between smartthings and wink. I chose smartthings because of the wider options of components and devices. I'm sure wink works as well too. . I'm glad i listened to the positive ones and ordered it. I have not had any problems with it. Both z-wave and zigbee devices have synced and work without any trouble. Notifications and alerts from the smartthings app are instant. It's great that my powered devices like outlets and switches act as a signal extender/repeater. That way my devices farther away from the hub act just as reliable as being next to it. . For anyone in this environment, i suggest downloading the smartrules app. It offers an even more configurable automation process based on more detail circumstances - more than what the smartthings app offers. . I highly recommend the hub to anyone.

Samsung SmartCam HD Pro 1080p Full-HD Wi-Fi Camera

This was very easy to set up and connect to wireless. (i had originally purchased a dlink camera that i had to return because it would not connect to the wifi). I bought this to keep an eye on my car and property and i this set up outside, but in an area protected from rain/snow (in a carport). I know it says it is an indoor camera, but so far works fine outside. It has been down to about 10 f and still working. The only issue i have is in bright sunlight, everything is washed out. The camera is not in the direct sunlight, but some of the area it is watching is. Basically you could be standing in the parking area in the sunny area, and the camera would detect anything, see you (i did a test and went and jumped around in the sunny area and no pictures/video recorded). The night motion is not very good, but since it is an indoor camera, i think the range is quite small and too close for anything for me to monitor in the cameras current location. I do have a motion sensor light in my carport, so that goes on and i get regular lighted video, so this is not an issue for me. I like that this camera can record to the sd card and i do not have to pay any monthly fees for it. I have it set to record on motion detection only and after a month have only used up about 16gb of my 32gb card. That is probably less than an hour of recording each day. It will overwrite old recordings once it runs out of space. Also it is nice that it will take pictures of motion detection and upload them to google photos, so i can easily review the photos and then watch any videos if anything looks interesting enough. (nothing much really except i learned couple of cats that wander by everyday! ). I do not like that i cannot copy the video remotely, you have to remove the sd card from the camera and put it in your computer. Someone could also probably remove the sd card, but then i'd have the pictures as backup showing them doing that - also they'd have to be pretty tall to reach it :). . Pros - easy to install, records to sd card (no monthly fee), photos to google, photos/video seems fine. Cons - can't copy videos remotely, bad in bright sunlight, small night vision range

Samsung Smartcam Hd Pro 1080p Full-hd Wi-fi Camera (snh p6410bn) FAQ.

New update: use google photos app for complete no-hassle access to event photos. Too easy. I rarely access the smart an app anymore but can see every event easily in picasa. . I'm hooked - this thing works great. No problems setting it up - took me 10 minutes to have foc. My parents, however, took a good hour to get this thing working with me walking them through it by phone. They eventually got it, and like it too. The functionality is great and there are no fees or services, etc. . Update 1 year later - the wifi on my home network stinks, so i ended up buying a wifi extender with a lan connection and direct-wired the smartcam to it - huge difference in connection time and function. The display pops right up on my app now and can do hd no problem. I have this camera inside pointing out a window, so i cannot use ir night vision (wont' go thru glass). Overall still very happy with this camera. -Notice from N. Audrey, Kent

This is a good camera with good resolution, nice form factor, and good wide angle view. I used it as a standalone camera with securityspy on a mac capturing motion for a while, but then upgraded to a dedicated nvr as i added several more outdoor bullet cameras. After *many* hours of troubleshooting, i was finally able to capture the stream to my hikvision ds-7608ni-e2/8p 8ch poe nvr network video recorder (monoprice. Com rebranded). Using a custom protocol, specify the camera's stream as. . Rtsp:// ip address /profile2/media. Smp. . You will just need to add the "/profile2/media. Smp" portion of the path. . I know. It's easy. But it took me forever to figure it out, and i wanted to make someone else's job easier. . The camera also appears to hijack port 8000 of your network for its web-based interface - and this is not editable. Thus, you will need to change the port of your nvr server from 8000 to another port (i chose 8001) and then have your router forward that port to your nvr ip address in order to access your nvr from outside the network. . Ever since chrome stopped using extensions, we lost the ability to view the stream on chrome. I hold out hope that samsung will write a new web interface that doesn't rely on an extension, but in the meantime, firefox and safari (on a mac at least) work well. The android and ios apps are quite good too, with zooming ability and excellent resolution. . All in all, a good, small camera with great resolution. Samsung's tech support wouldn't help me with an unsupported use (streaming to an nvr), so with any luck this review will save someone some time.

- V. PearcePros:. 1. Camera captured video, photos on event, photos manually, uploaded photos to google. 2. Captured video on micro sd card. . Cons:. 1. Live view seems to be only 720p 15fps. Perhaps the card has to be removed to see 1080p. 2. Very flimsy plastic mounting base. I used a 1" flat metal strip with holes to mount inside above the window and attached a 1. 5" wooden strip (floor molding wood) at the bottom with 2 screws and attached the camera to the wood. Mounting options need to be much better. . Cons:. 1. Micro sd hc 64gb card needed to be formatted to fat32 and inserted to be recognized. 2. Webviewer plugin did not work to view live video on windows 8. 1 firefox 32 after i disabled flash block plugin which allows any flash content to play once i click on it. This one is more extreme. After reading several reviews on dropcam and this camera, i decided to try this one for 2 reasons. 1. Micro sd card to record 64gb locally. 2. No monthly payment. . I received this camera yesterday. I was able to use android app on samsung galaxy note 3 running t mobile stock 4. 4. 2. I was able to use wifi direct button to connect the note 3 to the smartcam and then chose 5ghz network. It connected fine. I connected the camera to an outlet in my patio separated by 2 walls and about 20ft from my asus rt-n66u router. It could not connect in 5ghz. I had to use the reset button to re-connect to 2. 4ghz and then it was ok. . Today, i received samsung electronics 64gb evo micro sdxc from. . I used the app in the phone and selected sd card. No card was detected. I then used a card reader and did a quick format to fat32 using windows pc running version 8. 1. I then used firefox 32 browser on windows, power cycled the camera and logged on to samsung smartcam account. I selected the camera and then chose sd card. It was found. I set it to continuous recording and overwrite. Then i tried to open the live view. It asked me to install the web viewer plugin. I did that but still it wants to me install. Did not work on xubuntu 14. 04 firefox 32 either. I can see live video on android. . The event trigger did work and take photos and upload them to my google account. . I will update this after the server software and firmware version planned for sep 14th by samsung. . Update 9/15: no new firmware. May be they updated only their server. . I see that the cameras suddenly show disconnected in the phone app. Not sure if it is only to do with the android app. May be wired network will fix it. . I did find a way to control the cameras and even view video of multiple cameras simultaneously on the same pc using vlc media player. This works when your computer is on the same computer as the camera. The computer can run windows, mac, linux. You need to use vlc media player. Open network stream rtsp slash slash colon local ip address of camera slash profile 5 slash media dot smp. Default user name is admin for the camera (not sure how to change it) and password is the password of the camera. Nice thing is you can open multiple vlc windows to view all your cameras, connect your pc to a big monitor and you are all set.

I trusted the samsung name when purchasing this product, and i'm glad i did. This is truly a plug-n-play security device with excellent quality. I literally plugged in power cord, wife and i downloaded the samsung smartcam app to our smartphones (she has iphone, i have android phone), and it worked perfectly using our wireless network and internet. Using laptop was just as easy. Controls within system provide motion activated recording (which is what we need, but there is also a setting for audio detection as well), text alerts to our phones, acceptable night vision (only up to 16 ft), etc. I mounted the camera upside-down on our living room ceiling and was even able to adjust the view via the laptop to flip the image for us to view normally. A great product and would purchase again if we need additional cameras.

The F.A.Q. for samsung smartcam full hd outdoor snh-e6440bn 1080p wifi ip camera

All i needed was an outdoor camera that could monitor the front of the house and hold on to the footage for a few days. I didn't want to run cable for a dvr, didn't want to rely on cloud storage, and certainly didn't want to pay for cloud storage. This camera practically nails it, and am surprised it's rating is so low. Set up was easy, picture quality and night vision is very good for this price point. Number of false alerts is higher than i'd like, but is the same or fewer than other cameras i tried, including the d-link and flir fx. (note: the flir has no ability to continuously record and rewrite, despite having an sd card slot, which is for use as an action cam). I could not get the email notifications to work, but personally it's a feature i can live without. . Some of the reviews here are or simply wrong. Potential buyers should know:. -you can access footage on sd card remotely, via app or desktop. -it has connections for speaker and microphone- they are not built in. . Pros. -set up went by the book. Did not have to plug into ethernet to set up (but in specific cases you may have to). -the mobile app and desktop app (mac os in my case) work smoothly. -included camera cable is heavy gauge and quite long, which is nice for attic installs. -better image quality than many competitors (d-link and flir fx). -can record and rewrite continuously to 32gb card (there are no cloud options, free or paid. Card will hold around 3. 5 days of footage). -good level of customization on motion detection zones, alert schedule, image brightness, picture resolution. -camera is nice and compact for easy mounting. -two-piece design means if i have to pull the sd card i just go in the attic, not outside or up a ladder. . Cons:. . -could not get email notifications to work (push notifications worked fine however). -user manual could be a more clear. -although you can view footage on the sd card with the app or desktop, to offload footage you have to remove card. -ring to tighten the camera into position doesn't lock camera in place as tight as one would like. -only accepts 32gb cards max. Use of 64gb would be nice

I've tried to hate it, but i can't. Bought it a couple months ago and mounted it viewing the field and mountains, not overly impressed. Once i relocated it to monitor the driveway and garage , it started coming into it's own. The software is lacking, but adequate. Ability to view from anywhere with their cell phone app. Micro sdhc card works well for storage. If you are only going to have one camera, this is a good choice. Picture quality is very good, even at night. I have since added two other cheaper cameras and running them through blue iris software. This has taken care of all the samsung software quirks and i am getting ready to purchase another one. I am running it over a netgear modem/router and netgear ex7000 configured as a wireless access point. It must have a good signal, but don't try extending the cord from camera to control box(which receives/transmits signal), it won't work! . Does not work with edge browser if you are running windows 10 (will not accept plugin), must use explorer browser. Works just fine on win 10 and blue iris if you're building a system. Update12/26/2015. Installed my second one and still very pleased. Clarity and night vision are really good. Far better product than the foscam's i have. Still only 4 stars due to samsung's software. I may purchase one more to replace the first foscam i bought. I just can't find a better camera for this price. However, keep in mind i am running different software.

Excellent picture quality. I have two samsung cameras, this one and another snh-p6410bmr. This one more often has problems connecting, takes longer and often goes into "relay mode" with lower quality picture. Build quality seems to be good, the lens is sturdy, even in the worst of weathers. Highly recommend this product, the connection issue is most likely to be addressed with software updates.

I ordered and installed this a month ago and it has worked flawlessly! it arrived looking like new. Setup up was easy and it has exceeded my expectations. I have 4 indoor samsung cameras and this was my first outdoor one. I haven't had any issues with the app or any of the cameras. The cable between the camera and the wifi unit is a good 26 feet long which allows it to be in my laundry room where the signal is strong.

It's a pretty good monitoring solution for external entryways and doors (provided there's enough field of vision available from the mounting location; putting the camera too close to the area to be monitored isn't going to work well, it needs at least 3' setback from the closest edge to be monitored). The color rendering in daytime ambient light is good, especially for porch use. At night, it's a black and white image only, but resolution is decent, too. The software (available via web browser plugin for desktop computer or a samsung smartcam app for mobile devices) is not terribly intuitive and takes some getting used to. For example, if a motion event is detected, it will not always be indicated with a recorded event marker in the event timeline history, although you can get to the footage within the continuous footage index by reviewing the motion events there. A 64-gb sdxc micro card will hold nearly a week of continuous video and the unit can be configured to loop back and re-record from the beginning when more space is necessary. The micro sd card is placed in the base unit, not the camera body. The wired ethernet connection is also on the base unit and a white cable with rj-45 like connectors has to go from the base unit to the camera head for power and video feed (regardless of whether you're using a wireless connection or not - a cable run is required from base unit to camera head). The remote monitoring over the internet works well, along with the video recording, which is the strength of this product. The video recording can be configured for continuous or "motion detection" only recording. The monitoring software will support more than one camera, too. Case and build quality is good, they shouldn't fall apart or become problematic within intended use. The camera housing is water resistant, but it's not designed for submerged or immersed use.

With so many mixed reviews on this camera i was a bit apprehensive buying it. There weren't a lot of choices for outdoor cameras that fit my needs so i figured i'd gamble. Overall compared to other comparable options, i think it was a great choice. . Pros - easy install, setup, simple dvr recording via sd card, good night vision (at least in a slightly lit neighborhood), solid ios app, and rtsp support which allows the use of vlc or other 3rd party camera apps (ie not locked into their software). . Cons - the embedded web interface viewer doesn't work at all on osx (i tried 3 browsers) and only worked in ie on windows. It does however work fine when accessed via the samsung smart cam website (which is way more feature rich than the embedded interface). . I included a live shot in direct sunlight. . I like it enough that i just purchased two more for my front/back doors.

Not sure why people are having so many problems with this camera. For me, setup was easy and straightforward. Plug everything in, download the app, and add the camera. The app tells you to press the wifi button on the camera, which is on the base of this camera. You need to press and hold it for 5 seconds before the light starts to blink. Once the light is solid green, you are good to go, everything is setup. I agree the software could be better, but it's not unusable, and once it's setup, you don't need to futz with the software very often. . The picture quality on this camera is outstanding, night or day. Night vision leds are very powerful and allows you to see long distances with clarity. I also love the samsung cameras because you don't need to purchase their cloud dvr service, but can record to a local sd card. You do need to connect to their internet service to use the camera, but the standard setup with the smartcam software is free. . All that said, samsung really needs to get their act together with regards to compatibility. There are many cameras called smartcam, but only 1 works with the smartcloud service, and i don't believe this one does. Also, only the smartcam hd pro works with smartthings, this one doesn't. Also why is there a different app for smartcloud and smartcam? why not just have the same app with different service levels? it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. . Things that need improvement:. - software usability in general is pretty poor. To configure motion areas and resolution from the app, open the live view and touch tap the screen to bring up the advanced menu at the bottom. Not sure why some configuration is on the video feed and some is in the camera settings. Put them all in once place! . - wireless reception is very week. The base is only about 20 feet away from my router which is an overpowered asus router with extreme range, but i only get 2 bars. The connection does drop every once in a while, but not enough to be a deal breaker. - no 5ghz support. Why? this is 2016 and you smartcam hd pro has it. This is an outdoor product and needs more range. - need to drill a 1/2 inch hole in your house to fit the large connector for the camera cable. This could have easily been a smaller micro usb connector or something custom built. - no ability to schedule when motion detection is enabled, and as such, you end up needing to arm the motion sensitivity manually. . Even with all these problems, this is the best outdoor solution for me and what i need, and the quality of the picture is outstanding.

This camera is outstanding. Clever remote mounting, interior mounting of control/wifi unit, and easy to operate software. I've used this unit for sometime now, and i'm thrilled with its operation.

. Eva, Coventry says

I've had this smartcam for more than a month now, so i have gathered all the details and tests to write up this review. . First of all, i've owned 4 web cams (foscams and one hootoo). They are cheap, functional, but lack of the good image quality. Of course, like people always say, you do get what you pay for, so my expectation has to be more realistic. I have done tons of research about this smartcam before i made the purchase decision. Yes, it's expensive, and yes, i never had a samsung camera before. This is, therefore, a little risky for me, but thanks to online store's generous return policy, i was willing to give it a try. Boy, let me tell you, after i've had this setup, i would not even think about returning it and in fact, i'm thinking of getting another one. . What i do like about this smartcam:. . - extremely high picture quality. If your bandwidth allows, it can broadcast in true 1080 resolution. - relatively easy to setup. Power the camera on, wire attach to your router / switch, go to the samsung smartcam to register, you're good to go. - record continuous video footage for consecutive 3 days (32gb) and can be playback anytime. Auto-loop sd card when it's full. - send alert when motion alarm is detected, by email and/or iphone/android pop-up. - very impressive night vision, super long range. - record footage even when the network is down, since the recording is done from sd card. - no recurring rip-off monthly service fee like "draw dropcam". - waterproof for sure (had storm hit the bay area on mid december and works like a champ when exposed with rain). - stable wifi network connection through stucco walls and siding, about 50 feet away from base, no drops ever since deployment. - small profile, pretty stealthy if you want to hide it. Yet, the ir lights are clearly visible in the dark so not to stealthy but works as a criminal deterrence. - free apps for both iphone and android. - sectional monitoring area so you can focus on certain coverage area instead of the whole screen. - don't need to setup with dyndns or register static ip to make it work. Samsung's smartcam got you covered. . Cons / need to improve. - slow web / phone app interface. Whenever you click on most options, it takes at least a couple of seconds (sometimes more) to refersh. Argh. - poor customer support. When i called samsung for some general help about firmware upgrade, the tech told me "just restart the camera and reset everything back to default. What the. ? . - motion sensor is way too sensitive even when set to minimal when it rains. I have to turn off the alert when it was raining heavy. - no snapshot email notification. When i get the alert, i have to log on to the video playback, to trace what triggered the alarm. A snapshot of the triggered scene emailed to me would be great. - expensive. Oh well, yes, i know i know. You do get what you pay for, but it'd be great that they reduce the price point a little bit to make it more attrative. . Summary. Did i regret buying this smartcam? absolutely not. I love it. I want to buy another one soon! i think samsung can do better on their apps (web based and mobile app) to make this camera more attractive. Hope this review helps, if it does, please kindly rate it. Send me any questions if you have any. I'd be more than happy to answer them if i know the answer. . Update: jan 10, 2015. . - the camera appears to be holding strong after the storm hit at northern california. The heavy rain and cold weather did not cause any malfunction whatsoever. - it appears that samsung has changed the monitoring policy from their web page, that prevents users taking up their bandwidth for live viewing. If you watch the live feed for about 5 or 7 minutes from the web, the web page would pop up a message, saying that the connection is disconnected and if you to continue to view live feed, will have to go back to the main page and select the camera to start live viewing again. I don't like this, but i guess this is how they can save their network bandwidth in a long term. - i changed my micro sd card (samsun evo) to 64gb. I formatted it as fatext (not just fat or ntfs), plug the card in the main unit, it can now record 24/7 for 7 days before the old recordings were overwritten. Awesome. . I will write more updates if i come across anything new. Cheers, and happy new year! . . Another updates: jan 14, 2015. . - noticed that an anomaly took place two days. The camera stopped recording live videos out of the blue. All functions (even alarm, live feed etc) works except recording. I noticed this issue when i was at work so i couldn't give it a power cycle remotely. I gave the camera a quick restart (unplug the power cord, plug it back in) and viola, the recording feature was back in business. No need to re-format the micro sd or adjust anything else. I don't know what caused this hiccups but this is the very first time that i had to manually restart the camera due to an issue, so, i would say. Not too bad. Not sure if this was caused by the new 64gb microsd i'm using but it's not impossible. I thought i should share this with whoever is interested in reading my stuff. :p. . More update: jan 19, 2015. . - it appears that samsung has updated their mobile apps (iphone in my case). The revised app allows me to take a snapshot or record video directly to my phone's internal memory, which used to be a tedious process before. Kudos to their developer. I'm looking forward to seeing more enhancement. If they're able to better their web interface and enhance their apps further, i might consider upgrading my rating to 5 stars. :-). . More more updates: feb 8, 2015. . - i purchased a qnap nas a few days ago for my network data storage. One of its features is to have the embedded surveillance app that can record video continuously on the nas. I was able to use the app (two licenses) to connect to my samsung camera as nvr (network video recorder). Now, i can record live videos for however long i want in high definition, and no longer restricted by the size of the micro sd card. Currently, i'm recording at . 264, 15 frames per second in good quality. I'm very happy! . . Update on feb 13, 2015. . - someone asked about how i connect this camera to work with my qnap nas's nvr. I'd like to give you some idea of how it works. Basically, i purchased the qnap ts 453 pro but you don't have to go with the high end model since the lower end ones will do the similar job just fine. As long as it runs qts, which is their operating system that runs apps directly from the nas, you're all set. The qnap comes with two nvr licenses, that you can record live feed from the samsung cam 24/7 with different frame rates, picture quality, and resolution. Of course, the better the setting, the more drive space it will take but it's really not bad. . These are the steps to make it work. . 1. Run an app (inclusive with your qnap) called surveillance station. Click the camera configuration button then click "add". It will scan your samsung (or other compatible cameras) from the network. The camera type i entered was samsung snb 5003. Leave everything else at its default and enter the password for your camera. Now, this is not the first samsung website password but the secondary password that associates with your camera. . 2. Once you enter your password, click "test" to ensure the connection is successful. . 3. Click on the "video settings" tab, and select the compression rate, resolution, and frame rate of your choice. I leave everything to its maximum since i can care less about the drive space. . 4. I choose 5 days for continuous recording. . 5. Click on the "scheduling" tab if you don't want to record 24/7. I want to record everything so i leave to its default. . You're done on this section, and move on to "advanced settings". . 1. For maximum length of recording, i select 15 minutes, which is the maximum length for one file but you can choose a shorter duration. . 2. Select "overwrite the oldest recordings" which works just like the microsd card in the samsung camera. . Once done, that's pretty much it. Now, your 15 minutes (or shorter) clips will be stored in the nas's "recording" folder by date, and by hour. Yes, you will see tons of files but they are very easy to find. You may play it from the built in player (the fastest way to view the file) or you can download it to your computer's desktop and send it to the police if necessary. . Just in case you're curious, folder size for each date, is shockingly 1. 45 gb! yes, it's not 14 gb but 1. 45 only, pretty small, huh? . . Anyway, hope you enjoy my detailed report and don't forget to rate it if it's helpful to you. . Update: 2/25/2015 - sturdy construction, really sturdy. . - i was cleaning up the gutter of my house, and bumped the camera hard by accident. It fell about 15 feet on to the cement and still functions fully. Scratches, yes, damaged to the camera. No. This is simply amazing! . . Update: 3/5/2015 - uploaded a sample picture of my front lawn. That shows the picture quality. . Update: 3/20/2015 - i noticed some folks saying that they're unable to get email notifications successfully. I want to point out that after they put in their google mail address, they need to authorize the linkage by clicking "go to google page". If they miss this step, it will never work. I have absolutely no issues receiving email notifications when this feature is enabled from my configuration page. This is something to keep in mind. . James

I bought 2 of these refurbished units and both are working very nicely! just plug them into your router, and go to the online wizard and they connect right up. Once in setup mode, then you can turn on the wireless mode and disconnect them from the router. The online wizard walks you through all of this. I also use the app which works very good! connects up to camera everytime! it will let you view captured events or live video. You can also go into setup mode from the app to make any changes to the camera! i am impressed it was so easy! i guess that is why i bought a samsung!

For a non-commercial camera. . My fourth smartcam and prefer it to dripcam that my friend uses. . Image quality is excellent, app is ok (just not so slickly designed), options for settings are great and most of all i love the no-fee storage via microsd and google. I can specify type of alerts, sensitivity and can review live or on a calendar with timeline for both audio and motion sensor triggers. . Wide angle with zoom, don't really require ptz when using pinch and pan on an iphone.

Easy to install and set up i wired ethernet directly to my router, the app provides easy access and control from my ios device. I purchased a samsung 64gb micro sd card and formatted exfat and works fine, (i have read reviews where some are using a 128gb card successfully). I am set up to record continuous with overwright. I can look at recorded events or live view right from my ipad. Night viewing has a great range for my setup , easily 30 feet or so. I have 3 motion zones dialed in for recording motion events, so far working great. I will eventually add another one at the back area of the house and at the barn area. I was not paid and did not receive a discount for my review.

Set up about 75 feet from my house & 125 feet from my verizon router. Has a good connection with min. Video loss. Easy set-up with good night vision. * follow up review* after owning it for one year i've managed to upgrade my wireless to verizon's new router and have had zero video loss , in order for the camera to work wireless you must have a good-excellent connection with very min. Interference from other sources i. E. Microwaves, cordless phones ect, i live in the burbs far away from the city.

Z. Theresa, Bracknell Forest

Good camera, reasonably easy to set up, excellent image quality, reasonably good night vision. The camera part that goes outside is rugged and not so easy to tamper with and hiding the cable, the indoor box is a nice feature allowing the sd card and other connections to be inside your house. The android app could be better, often losses connection but it does work and does the job. Best outdoor camera i found, works (unlike many others), no subscription fee nonsense

F. Cunningham, Portsmouth says

I own ten smartcams, three of these outdoor units. Generally the app is good but recently functionality has been a bit hampered. Integration with picasa and google+ is not supported though advertised. Alerts and motion/audio sensitivity have no correlation. It would be nice to be able to zoom during playback. . Like the wide lens, but wish the box was as outdoor proof as the lens so it too can be located in outdoor wet areas. . Would be nice if it came with a removable, plug-in mic. And that mic could be plugged into the lens housing. . Wish the lens cord could be accessed in the lens housing to shorten or replace the cord. . Wish there was a black color option as well for lens and cord. . Prefer to have local microsd storage than pay monthly dropcam fees. . Poe option

L. Sarah, Oregon

The indoor unit indicates up to 15 feet night vision, and sure enough, the picture is far inadequate in a room greater than 15 feet diagonal. So i installed this exterior smartcam into my living room and now the image covers the entire room. However, it seems as if the audio does not work right out of the box, no sound to be heard, in contrast with the interior unit, was does provide 2 way audio from the iphone app.

U. Rose, New Hampshire says

This is my fourth samsung outdoor smartcam installed at 3 different locations and i have yet to find an easier to install, better quality weatherproof outdoor camera on the market. It's not perfect, mind you, but it's pretty close. Setup is a breeze and the mobile app and website interface are very usable. The cameras are recognized by my veralite home automation units, but cannot be manipulated through the vera dashboard but that is probably more a function of the vera device modules not being quite up to date, which i hope will eventually be addressed (by vera or their community). . All that said, there is room for improvement. There really should be a way to transfer recorded video stored on the sd card to your computer or mobile device through either the web interface or mobile app. Currently you can only record/capture the live video feed or physically remove the sd card to transfer the underlying stored video files (which requires physical access to the camera, which is something i don't usually have). Also, the units can occasionally get a little wonky with their internet access and playback of recorded events, returning access errors or network "unstability" errors. Rebooting the device will usually fix the issue, but that requires being onsite with the unit, which is usually not the case for me. Doing a reset of the device through the mobile app usually works, but forces me to reconfigure the device each time. It would be nice to have a reboot function through the app or web interface. All of these issues can (and hopefully will) be solved with upgrades to their firmware, app, and web interface. The hardware is solid and the software will eventually get there.

Smart? maybe. Secure? maybe not. . The good:. -the camera itself is pretty nifty:. -night vision works. -motion detection works. -clarity is good. -seems sturdy. -reasonable installation. -ok configuration methods (i like the wifidirect method via the android app). -the 2 piece construction is a nice way to protect the more delicate electronics, and make access to the memory card easy. . The bad:. -horrible instructions. Look online for some youtube videos, or be very very lucky if you want to set the camera up yourself. -one obscure reference to the website is supposed to be enough for you to go there and find the account page. -the webpage itself doesn't work with chrome well, and with scriptsafe and chrome at all. -the faqs available for the product on the website are pretty pathetic. Poorly worded and not very helpful. -features available on the cameras web page are different than the ones on the app (and partially non-functional). Web page and app features are both different than the ones on the website. -the "event" page gives you a list of motion detection events, but no snapshot, or any way to go from that list to the playback to actually see the event. This looks like an unfinished feature. Maybe they are working on it. -security. Its a security camera. Consider making it secure. . So, presumably the target audience for a camera who's website says "simple. Smart. Secure" and has a tab on "security" would be purchased by people who like security. Those people probably like security actually practice it in general. Secure wifi. Decent passwords. Firewalls. So, why would you sell a product to them that has 10-14 alphanumeric passwords (no spaces or special characters) and make the camera passwords 1-8 alphanumeric characters? they do have a lockout after 5 failed attempts, so someone is thinking, but not enough. Next, if you make a security product that requires opening holes in a firewall, perhaps you should consider writing down which ports and ip addresses are required? i've come to expect that sort of thing from video game makers, not security product makers. . I like the camera, and it does what i want it to do, which is monitor my front door. A public place. I would never use the website for monitoring anything inside my house. There is no way i trust samsungsmartcam. Com with baby cam duty, or interior views of my home. Not with the level of sophistication the website shows. . I recommend the product, but know what you are getting into. . Ps, fw data:. . So easy to install and use. ( varies with other people) things like this are easy for me to install. The app is so dummy proof, it was very easy to get running. I can see my house front yard from my cell phone almost in any place. I use a samsung s7. Works great on my wifes samsung note4.

I have purchased and installed a few other home security cams and systems over the years. The other types of security cams or systems i have experience with are business grade, used to secure and monitor corporate offices and warehouses. . Pros:. . - very easy to setup via onscreen prompts from a computer or mobile device on the same wired or wireless network. I did not have to open any ports on my firewall (standard high-bandwidth cable modem service) as other users have suggested. Super easy to monitor remotely from the samsung website or from the app on a mobile device. . - no monthly service fees! i can t stress this enough as it s really nice not to have any more monthly fees for my security cam service in order to receive notifications, alarm events, remotely view or playback stored events. . - option to record continuously or just record events triggered by motion or audio. . - full 1080p streaming video very crisp and detailed. Night vision is superb compared to other cams i have used. Ability to zoom into image 4x but that can degrade image quality. Yes, it evens streams hd wirelessly home network or remotely to mobile devices on 4g networks i have not experienced any issues as other users have although my smartcam is about 40 ft. Away from my wireless router / 75-80% signal strength. . Cons:. . - memory card only supports 32gb. I have tried a 64gb card and it doesn t even get recognized even when formatted with fat filesystem. . - unfortunately heavy rain or snow seems to set off the motion detection frequently, even on the lowest sensitivity settings. On rainy nights i get few hundred alerts and have to mute my phone from all the notifications. . - you really have to have a decent wireless signal to your router to effectively transmit 1080p hd quality streaming video. Once signal drops to around 50-60% for me, i can only transmit vga or if i m lucky, 720p. No issues when plugged in directly to network with ethernet cable. . - relatively expensive to add more camera to your security system setup $229 a pop, some other camera systems with 4 camera s or more can cost 200 and up but without all the features this smartcam provides. . - viewing live streaming video is great with internet explorer but cannot take snapshots or fill the screen with the full image on google chrome browser have not tried on safari or other browsers. Have not had any issues with samsung smartcam app on android or ios, works great. . Overall i'm really happy with the samsung smartcam outdoor hd - i've done a lot of research on all the most popular competing security cams and this really comes with everything i really wanted in a security cam with no monthly service fees. I find it really handy to know when a package is delivered to my house or whenever someone walks up to my door. In these times, makes me feel just a little bit more secure whether i'm home or away!

So this unit came in a refurbished box i did not see where this was advertised as a previously used unit. To top it off i paid what a new unit would cost for a refurbished camera. Not to mention the ups driver i caught tossing the package at my door step on my security camera. The carrier didn't follow the directions on the lime green paper hanging on my door. Not a great find or a deal. A unit brand new cost $199 at best buy. Not impressed. Btw this is the second bad review i have ever written and i feel i buy a lot from online store. Update 3/26/16 didn't come with the power cord !

Good images-when it works; but unreliable. Goes offline frequently and stops recording for no apparent reason. Website and support are awful. Two stars for the picture quality. Everything else should be an embarrassment to samsung.

I'm pretty disappointed. The video quality is good, but the motion detection is extremely inconsistent, to the point of not being usable at all. There is lots of "buggy" behavior in both the camera and the software for mobile and desktop. The english instructions are really quite poor, clearly written by a non-native english speaker. . Motion detection sensitivity even on it's lowest setting, triggers on rain, small birds, bugs, and apparently ghosts. It will literally trigger hundreds of times one night and not at all the next. It's just crap frankly. Since all i wanted it for was motion detection, this camera was pretty much a waste of money.

Poor network interface over wifi. Unfortunately the samsung smartcam hd outdoor snh-e6440bn has issues with network interface. Even with very good wifi connection (fios 25mbps) the connection intreptued frequently. Almost every day the unit get reset and requre to set up again. Without login and reset everyday it wont record to sd card. Once the sd card full it wont overwrite even after selected to overwrite. After 3 weeks it wont record at all unless it reset. Watching videos on phone app will disconnect after 3-5 minutes due to network intruption. I hope samsung will improve the wireless network interface from n to ac (802. 11ac) and a faster login for the mobile app. So this unit is returned hoping by next year a newer version will fix.

The one i got works ok for the first night. The sec night the ir function will keep on turning on and off and cost it to send me alert every 1 min. . I am glad i did not install it but give it a test run first. Please make sure you do a test run on these kind of thing before you go for a full install on the wall

. Debra, Alabama

Where do i begin? well. The cam dont have mic n speakers like the indoor ones. Its a decent cam but cant expect much from it. Sometimes it records, sometimes it doesnt. So i put it on continuous recording and increase sensitivity and motion alert. . Today it rained, amd this cam keeps going off on my phone so i had to deactivate motion sensor. . But all in all, its ok. Wished it was like the indoor cam, nothing like that at all. . It would be great to have the 2 way mic so you can catch the mailman off guard. . I caught him on the cam throwing my box from the stairs to my front door instead of going to my front door and ringing my bell, so thats not a gd thing.

T. Meyer, Hillingdon says

The camera is 5 stars the software is 1star. It's really unfortunate and hopefully samsung will update the software to make this a great product, because the hardware is already there. . Good: great picture quality, good form factor, no monthly fees, ability to record to sd and review via app/browser, weatherproof. . Annoying: online website flat out doesn't work on most browsers (use ie "shutters"), the options in the app and website are different, why? . . Bad: notifications . The whole reason you get a wifi cam are for notifications and they missed the mark completely. Email notifications don't send a snap shot so they are useless i turned them off. App notifications no snapshot either so you have to open the app, go to events, and watch the most recent. What makes this problem worse is the camera at night due to ir and rain triggers notifications all night. For someone who lives in seattle this is almost a deal breaker, and i hard to turn off notifications because of this . You know the whole reason one gets a wifi security camera has to be disabled if you live somewhere where it rains. I'd even be willing to look past this because through the website (not the app ? ) you can set notifications to a schedule say 8am-5pm. While not a solution would still make it usable for someone like me right? wrong, rather than it just be a scheduler of when to send you notification and when not too, it is a scheduler for when the camera should and should not record events. So in my case between 5pm-8am (all evening, night, and morning) it wont record any events. Someone shows up to my door at 5:30 it won't record that. So that had to be disabled too. So now if something looks off i can check the event to see if something happened but my camera wont notify me. And i'll have to sift threw 100's of events cuz rain creates an event every few minutes . All night . . I'll keep it because there isn't a competing product to this. My hope is samsung updates the website/app.

Update: 12/16/2016. The power adapter went bad on this device just after the 1 year warranty. It's a 9v 1a ac adapter. Samsung will not sell me a replacement nor provide any help in finding a replacement. I'll order some universal ac dc adapter(s) from online store, but have no idea if they will fit. Samsung customer service was pretty bad on the phone. Young kid who avoided giving real answers while chewing his gum loudly into the phone - and this was the support samsung gives when the customer has already done his own troubleshooting to identify the problem and the solution needed. Yikes. . Original review. (below). . Some of the features offered on this camera, such as the online viewing options, do not interest me. This review focuses on the features i use. . Wide angle view - love the 128 degree view. Really works well for a home security monitoring setup. . Outdoor rated & installation - only the small camera is outside. Had to drill a small hole in the wall, but install looks highly professional. Cable is long, so the inside unit can be placed into a location with strong wifi signal. For example, on camera is several walls (including concrete) away from router, but it's wifi unit is only 10 feet line of sight from the router. Also, the connector for this camera is slightly smaller than a typical ethernet connector, so the hole in the wall could be slightly smaller than a typical poe camera. . High quality image. The hd (1080) image is great - in daylight, low light, and infrared. The infrared is sufficient to clearly illuminate the outside entryways that this camera monitors. One entryway only covers about 15 feet. The other covers a distance of 30 feet. In both cases, there are also motion sensors in our system that turn on lights when motion is detected, resulting in an even better nighttime image. We record a time lapse image using securityspy on a mac to a hard drive. Recordings are set via security spy to just 2 to 6 fps (frames per second) to reduce file size because these images are so large and detailed, but the camera seems to send 20 or 30 fps when viewing a live stream. (it has lower settings such as 720 and mobile sized streams, but i don't use those. Network bandwidth and strength of wifi connection might restrict 1080 or 720 streams on some systems. ). . Online setup - had not expected to use this, but it found the cameras and allowed me to make most of the settings changes, very easily. The only thing i couldn't do was assign a static ip via the online system when using wifi. This can be set for wired connections, though. In the end, i had the router assign a static ip based on mac address, as with other cameras.

Keeps going off line, you will have to go to the lengthy process of re-configure through wi-fi, since i installed it outside on a high corner of my remote vacation cabin, this sucks!

A. Nicole, Greenwich

Really disappointed in this camera. The directions aren't the greatest. When i finally got it working and set up an account on the iphone app every time you launch it you can see the live feed for like a second then a page of the app lays over it with selections. The problem is i was unable to choose anya of the selections. They are all grayed out. I tried several times. Also for an outside camera i don't want a hub outside that it has to connect to. There has to be a better product or solution out there. Adt came to the house and tried to hook up one of theirs too and were unsuccessful. Inside cameras work fine. Anyone?

. Isabel, Pays de la Loire says

Great picture and super easy to setup. Won't give it a better rating because it constantly needs to be restarted. It continues to record, but when i try to view it, it gives me an odd error message.

S. Shirley, Tameside

This is an awesome camera. If you just want a camera to log on and look at things. But if you want to use it for security or save over 2 weeks worth of data look somewhere else. You can only record to the sd card and since it only supports 32gb cards it will only save about 2 weeks worth of recording. Samsung has locked it down so you can only access it though their software and no longer web based. You cannot attach it to third party software so you could save more. With its wide angle and great picture i would purchase these for my businesses and highly recommend it to users. But since they would rather lock it down and not allow it to be used with other systems, like a synology nas drive or milestone software, i would not recommend this camera.

This is a piece of crap. Just like any samsung "smart" products, the hardware of this smartcam looks sharp. What makes me giving it a one star rating is the software operating the camera. Its software is buggy as hell: i have to constantly reset the cam, sometimes it just freezes in time when i need it the most (when i am away from home). The companion ios or android app is abysmal and buggy too. The webapp is using some sort of native plugin and requires installation. Good luck trying to use the webapp as i am a software engineer and cannot figure out how to properly install and use the plugin. . It is too painful to pay $200+ for this piece of hardware and it just "doesn not work" (tm). On a side note, i have been using samsung products over the last 10 years: galaxy s3 to s5, galaxy note 10, smart tv uhd 4k. All of them seem to be affected by sub-standard software quality. My only advise to samsung is to hire the right software engineers to fix your damn issues. My advise to you, the buyers, is to steer away from this mad-house manufacturer. I am shopping for a nest cam now. Good luck!

This is a total joke i got this camera because i wanted to be able to store footage online. Now after purchasing it i find out picassa is unsupported as well as youtube. This means that the only way to store files is in the camera themselves. So lets imagine someone breaks in and decided to steal your cameras that are worth approximately $600. You come home to find your house broken into but not to worry because you had a smart cam. Wait where is the smartcam. Oh no they stole it. Along with the only records of the event in the memory card in the camera total bulls*. What is the point of recording video footage when it is in an easily accessible location that may be stolen form you. I called and talked to smartcam and they told me the "don't know" when they will be able to get picassa to work again or youtube for that matter. Thanks so much!

Reboots every 2 minutes. This causes it to think something happened so it records the reboot. Fills the sd card in a matter of days. If you want a camera with the samsung name on it, this is for you! if you want one that works, look elsewhere.

H. Michele, Ohio

Surprised by how well everything is made. Setup was very easy compared to other camera that i tried and returned (hootoo). Really like recording on sd card option. Video quality is great during the day and night. Only complain is the online camera interface, its not well designed and is hard to use for playback, i. E. Difficult to find specific time of recording and there is no timer when video is played. Android app works better and is easier to use. . Update. Last version of software and updates made impossible to watch recorded video over android app or pc. Getting message //access has failed. Please try again in a moment (simultaneous connection/network unstable)// no matter what i do. Also, camera stops recording every 30 days or so and needs to be reset by plugging power off. It worked well first few months. I hope they can update this and make it work again, but i am already shopping for substitute camera. This is very unreliable.

This camera snh-e6440bn is small with a nice design. In general it is a good camera. . I have tried two samsung cameras: snh-e6440bn for the outdoor use and snh-p6410bn for the indoor use. Both have very good resolution true 1080p in the day time. It also shows good detailed images in the shades with bright sunshine in the rest part of the images, which indicates a good dynamic range. . Pro:. Free samsung web service for camera setup and video streaming, . Wide viewing angle, . Quite easy to set up, . Save . Avi video files locally in microsd memory (no need of another video recorder), . Memory chip can be removed without stopping video streaming, . Small connector on the camera cable (easy going through small hole on the wall), . Good hd video/snapshots compared with zmodo 720p ip cams for the same ambient lighting, . No need to have another power supply to the camera. . Con:. Not very good in the night (ir illuminators cover only small area and weak ir light), . Some video clips corrupted (unable to play with windows media player or vlc media player) , . No recording after 1 or 2 weeks (unable to recover after power-cycling, must reformat microsd memory to continue recording; it's sony microsd. ), . Must use samsung server to view/set up the video, . Unable to send e-mails with snapshots/video clips (only send alarm e-mails without detailed info), . Unable to send snapshots to google picasa like snh-p6410bn.

This thing doesn't work with eco-systems like milestone arcus, and with the phone app you have to enter a password every time. Plus the integrated cable is not long enough to run far. I don't think it has a mic, but the phone app makes a buzzing noise like it is getting sound from the camera.

G. Connie, Vermont says

This camera's video quality is as good as the inside version of the camera that i have seven of. It's motion detection has not performed nearly as well last the inside cameras for some reason. I have one of the inside cameras looking toward the street front, as well as this camera, with both set for motion detection, the inside camera will capture video on anything that moves within it's field of view, and this outside version will miss the same motion, like a car going down the street. So, based on this issue, i would not purchase another one of the outside models. I can't say the motion detection problem is typical of this camera since i only have one of these models. The other seven inside models have performed exceptionally well. If it was not such a problem to remove, i would probably return this model. Update, 9-7-2015, another issues that has shown up, for no apparent reason, the camera will stop recording. No indications, other than any of the recent recording times are just blank. To correct this, you have to power cycle the camera, and then it will start recording again. But for how long ? and when and why it might stop again ? also, with the release of apple's newest os x el capitan, the samsung plugin for the browsers used under the mac os x will no longer work. Contacting samsung support confirmed this problem, and they said that they did not know when this problem should be fixed. So, if you want to access the samsung cameras, using a browser on a apple computer you are out of luck. Based in these issues with this model camera, i could not recommend purchasing this model. I have, including this model, eight samsung smartcams, seven are the inside version, and they have performed far better than this one outside version.

I have been using this camera for 6 months now and feel qualified to review it. . 1. This is an outdoor camera. I have it underneath the eve of the house out of direct rain and sun. Nevertheless the screen fogged up a couple of times and never seemed to clear properly. I now have permanent spot on the image where the picture is blurry at night because the night time leds are also behind the same clear cover. . 2. The camera sometimes stops recording events to the sd card. It was not out of space, and i also had overwrite checked. The only way to fix this was to restart it. There is no remote restart so i have to go and physically unplug it to restart, another poor design non feature. . 3. I just reformatted the sd card while it was in the unit (note this is an sd card that has been in there for months recording events) and once it finished it no longer recognised the sd card. I likely have to take it out and format fat in my pc to make it work. Yes i did restart it. . 4. The biggest fault of all is the fact that i have to use samsung servers to retrieve recorded events from the sd card. This actually would be ok if it worked. Most of the time it fails to connect or "loses connection" half way through playback. If you are thinking that this is because i have a bad network that is not so. My camera is on a lan ( i tried wireless and everything was worse when accessing the camera on wifi) both inside my home and out on a cell network the camera access is flaky and not reliable at all and is soo slow. Mush of the time the system says the servers are down or are going down for maintenance. This would be ok since its free if they gave another option for retrieving the event recordings. . 5. This camera needs a way to directly retrieve the sd recorded events and download them to my pc without using the unreliable samsung server. Samsung could you please add the features asked for above.

Did some research of what camera we needed to be able to record video at a construction site with power but no internet. This appears to be the answer. . Box arrived today. First thing, before even opening, is the big refurbished stamp on the box. Say what? nothing about that in the item description. There is one comment about it in a previous review. The slip of paper inside the box states it has a 90 day warranty on parts an labor, not the 1 year in the manual. (btw, good luck finding the online manual online- google "snh-e6440bn manual" and download it from a third party. This costs the item the first star. . It got hung up on mac desktop configuration so completed it on iphone. It took some figuring but now have it configured using a 64gb card. It kept telling me card was not inserted but after third formatting it popped up and then i formatted it again through the camera software (can do from either desktop or iphone). Playback on my mac required downloading "media player" from the app store as quicktime is unable to convert the avi file and open. . Will report back once setup at job site.

Camera takes some time to figure out properly, and worked fine for a while. So well, i bought a second one. About a week after that, neither will display recorded video through the app. I can view live video, and that is it. I can turn the camera off, remove the microsd card, and play them on my computer, but that is an extreme pain in the butt. The camera only records 720 video, instead of 1080p. If you want 1080p, you must use a third party app, like sighthound, and most likely hard wire network, instead of wifi. The firmware through the web interface says that there is a new version of firmware to load, but the fw update fails, which is a common thing, according to others found through google. I dont know how a neat company such as samsung can fail this bad with this camera. . Updates:. The wall wart power adapter died on me. The replacement is here for those who need this also.  upbright new global ac/dc adapter for 5esp 5e-ad060080-e 5e-ad060080-a 5e-ad060080-u power supply cord cable ps wall home charger input: 100 - 240 vac 50/60hz worldwide voltage use mains psu. . I upgraded from 1 star to 3. I am still sore about it recording 720, rather than 1080 to the internal sd card, but sighthound had made things easier and faster to manage and the poor camera playback ability.

The reason i gave such a low rating is not because of the product itself. The reason is that samsung's service support is probably the worst in the industry. Their technical service operation is dramatically understaffed. You can literally wait forever and then wait so more. While the product works very well if you cannot access it remotely it is useless. There is presently a software problem with samsung's remote web viewer so that you cannot install the web viewer on windows 7 & 10. I was warned that samsung's service was abominable but i thought the products were so superlative that i wouldn't need their support. Wrong ! if another manufacturer provides a comparable product buy it, not samsung !

samsung really needs to get their act together and overhaul their horrible software, it is incomplete and finicky. The good:. - amazing ir night vision. - great low-light performance. - small camera footprint. . The bad:. - no snapshot is sent when detecting an event (my older snh-p6410bn uploaded a picture to picasa). - only supports 32gb (again, my older snh-p6410bn supported 64gb). - ios app live view is worthless and choppy when trying to view in "high quality" (camera is connected via ethernet and the frame rate drops to 15fps. - motion detection is very sensitive even at the lowest setting. It triggers and event with rain drops, snow and even when the night vision ir comes on (pretty annoying when you receive around 200+ event alerts in a few minutes just because it's raining/snowing). - video quality is good, but not 1080p. It is pretty choppy at times. - constant camera disconnection (again, even when using ethernet exclusively). - you can't download/save a video file to the computer without physically removing the microsd card from the unit and plugging it to the computer. . All in all, this camera could be so much better if samsung really wanted to spent some time on really finishing the software. To me this camera feels like a step back from the older snh-p6410bn, with the only advantage that it can be used outdoors. . Update 12/9/2014:. I found a very annoying issue with the camera's recording capability. After a very suspicious person came to my home yesterday and seemed to be casing my house, i went back to review the video and of course the quality was very choppy and couldn't make an id. I then decided to take out the sd card to download the footage to my computer and hopefully review the video at 1080p, but to my surprise the video recorded directly to the sd card is bad or even worse than the one i could get from the stream. I'm knocking down another star. . Update 4/30/2015:. One good ting and one bad one:. The good - it withstood a miserable winter with temps averaging 20*f (-6*c) and several snow and ice storms. The bad - the camera does not detect motion when in night (infrared) mode. It doesn't matter how sensitive i set it, i won't detect a person walking by the motion "area". . *one more thing i noticed over the past few months is that the camera seems to stop recording events every 30 days or so, even with plenty of space left on the sd card. The solution is to power cycle and everything is back to normal.

P. Evelyn, Durham says

The hardware itself is good. It can't magically read license plates or see faces with clarity unless you realistically position it close up. The thing you got to worry about is how buggy the software is. After set up, the live camera feed will often freeze and if i go off the timestamp, it will skip 10-20 seconds. That's incredibly frustrating if something were to happen in that time while saving the video file. I have a wireless router only 30 feet away with five bars. There should be no reason why it is having this much difficulty keeping up.

D. Harrison, South Australia

I was really happy with this thing for 32 days. It was hard to get to sync with my wifi but once i had that figured out, it worked fine. Picture quality was great. But then 1 month after i bought it, it stopped recording events triggered by motion. No amount of resets, etc. Would make it work. This is my 3rd attempt at a wireless system and the second samsung system. All seem to work for a while and then die. So, i'm done with wireless and have gone to a wired system (night owl). Yes, i have to run wires but it wasn't as bad as i thought and now i have a system that's faster, better pictures and works!
