Tripp Lite Transformer Protector Tlp74rb (Power Supplies Or Protection) 2763

Review for outlet right angle transformer

Price was $9.14. Turns a standard 2-outlet wall plug into 6 plugs with excellent surge protection. . I read elsewhere on here where someone said you could plug this into the top socket of your wall plug and it would leave the bottom plug free. That is not the case. This has a prong that sticks out the middle that is designed to fit into the ground (third prong of a three-prong plug) of the top outlet while it plugs in normally and gets its power from the bottom plug outlet. . If you removed that middle plastic prong from this so you could plug it into the top plug on the wall, it would lose much of it's stability that helps keep it from easily falling off the wall. I've seen other plug mounted surge protectors like this that actually require you to remove the middle screw and cover plate on the wall sockets and then they come with a much longer middle screw that you use to attach it and keep it even more securely in place. I prefer the method this tripp lite uses as it holds well enough and you don't have to worry about misplacing a wall plate and screw if you ever decide to remove the surge protector because they don't need to be removed with this type of design. . If i could change one thing about this surge protector it would be to have one one side of the plugs be meant to plug items in horizontally and the opposite side to face the other directions so items could be plugged int vertically. Depending on the design of power bricks they'll often cover up a plug above/below it while if the plugs were all going the other direction, it would leave the ones next to it open. Versatility is important in power strips and surge protectors.

Prologue

These little jewels recently saved me several thousand dollars when lightning struck a nearby storage shed and traveled through the ground to our electrical box. Some of these survived and others gave their life for our appliances. Those surge protectors that died were replaced with no hassle by tripp lite in less than one week. One garage door opener control board was toasted, but it appeared that this particular opener took the brunt of the strike. So, they are not indestructible. Tripp lite offered to pay for the replacement board and overnight shipping with no hassle. I cannot say enough about tripp lite customer support. It was excellent. Tripp Lite 7 Outlet 6 Right Angle + 1 Transformer Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip, 4ft Cord, Black, Lifetime Limited Warranty & $25k Insurance Tlp74rb Review (tlp74rb)

This is the first time that i have found a surge protector power strip that lets me not only switch off the entire strip but also lets me choose to switch off only certain outlets. . I find this very useful in several spots around the house, for example, on one of my tvs, i have a fire, a chromecast and a roku dongle (bit redundant i know ; ) ) and do not wish to have any of them on unless in use. I really like that i can easily turn the power on and off to the one that i am using without unplugging it. I also appreciate having an always on outlet. . I have just ordered another one to use primarily as a charging station. I like to leave adapters plugs in the strip so that i only have to attach devices. I do worry about the possibility of a loose cable not attached to a device catching the attention of a pet. Being able to switch off those charging adapters not in use will give me additional peace of mind. . The six foot cord is very sturdy and this tripp lite surge protector strip does have the ul certified seal on the bottom. -D. Perez

PROS
  • I've been a big fan of tripp lite products for a long time. Years ago while i was working as an electronics engineer, i researched a lot of surge protectors . And tripp lite bested the others by far. Since then, i'll only use another brand if i absolutely have to. I currently have this computer running on a tripp lite uninterruptible power supply. Having an outlet strip with each outlet individually controlled is wonderful. I frequently have to turn different items on my work bench on and off, and it's great to be able to turn on only the device i want, and not everything connected to the outlet strip. I've bought several of these, and i'm sure i'll buy more soon.
  • How does one make an outlet review exciting? probably by plugging something exciting into it, but alas; no vibrators for this surge strip. I do, however, have my treadmill plugged into it and i move around and sweat on that a lot. So that's something. Anyhow, the strip fits on the ground right next to my treadmill so it is easy on, easy off. I like that this will save my equipment from frying because no one wants that. I also plug my wireless speaker into here while i am running as well so i've got my own little setup in one corner of the basement. That'll do, strip. That'll do.
CONS
  • I love the design and functionality of this surge protector. But i experienced a significant issue:. I have a standard wall power outlet and experienced the problem where the supporting plastic pin did not fit properly. I couldn t plug in the power surge. I was forced to break the plastic pin in order to make the power surge fit in the power outlet. Now the surge is working fine but it s hangibg due to lack of support and the supporting pin is stuck in my upper power outlet.
  • Overall i think this is a great power strip if you just plan to toss it under the desk or in some corner and never use the individual switches. The problem i have with it is that if you want to mount it somewhere useful where you can easily use the switches, and remove or add cords to the outlets its not so great. There are two tiny/narrow little mounting holes on the back side, which are also not centered. Even you're lucky enough to have 2 screws that will fit, they will not hold the power strip tightly enough, or on the side where the outlets are, meaning if you want to remove a plug and its in the outlet firmly, when you try to remove it, the power strip will pull away from the wall and likely break the plastic around the flimsy mounting holes in the back. If it wasn't for this, i'd give it 5 stars, and 3 is being generous. If i didn't need this so much, i'd return it for this reason.
  • I liked that this surge protector was all on the wall, leaving nothing to vacuum or dust around on the floor. My biggest problem is that my plugs keep falling out. This is annoying as i have my phone charger there and i often find it is not charging because the plug slipped out (again). Don't know why it so loose, it just is.

outlet right angle transformer Tripp Lite 7 Outlet (6 Right Angle + 1 Transformer Outlet) Surge Protector Power Strip, 4ft Cord, Black, Lifetime Limited Warranty & $25K INSURANCE (TLP74RB) (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

This is a quality power strip, made by a quality company, that is well put together and just works great. The 6 outlets provide ample space for powering several plugs, and the 1 right angle outlet makes it easy to use those huge wall wart plugs that we all hate, without covering up two outlets. The only thing that is a possible negative is that the cord for the plug is a little short at 4 ft, but it still works. I personally like the black color which i thinks blends into my office better than the traditional white/cream colored outlets. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing a new power strip.

Click to see NoticeTripp Lite Transformer Protector Tlp74rb (Power Supplies Or Protection)"I have bought and trusted tripp lite products since 2000, so i was very pleased to see that they had a strip that allowed each outlet to be controlled individually. I originally bought three of these strips to see the effect clamping down on vampire electricity consumption. It has made a difference, enough to notice on my electricity bill, so i have bought a few more to cover all outlets in my apartment. I appreciate the security of being able to turn off things like laptop and phone chargers without having to unplug them multiple times per day. The in-built breaker also works like a charm as well, and has saved me a few trips to the fuse box. This strip is everything i was expecting and more. Thank you, tripp lite!"

Tripp Lite Protector Insurance Super7b (Power Supplies Or Protection) FAQ.

Great surge protector. The outlets on the sides really make this useful. I keep this under my couch and we plug our laptops into it. The side outlets mean that it rests face up and the couch's low profile doesn't get in the way. I haven't had a surge yet or had it fry ( hopefully never will ). -Notice from I. Works like a charm and one of the most highly recommended surge protector makers out there. Just be aware that this won't be able to protect your things from nearby lightning strikes, they are simply too powerful for any surge protector, this protects from minor surges. If you want protection from more severe close by strikes then you have to invest in whole house protection offered by your power company or other methods you should consult a professional electrician about.

- K. ElidaBought this power strip after i stepped on and broke my old one. Was looking for something with enough protection for my air bed so that when there is a power surge/outage that i get every year it wont kill my new bed! got to test it out last weekend when a windstorm caused a power surge and outage which killed my alarm plugged into the wall. The side outlets are great for my phone chargers so the cord points straight up and keeps them from bending and breaking. Great product would recommend to anyone looking for some extra protection or just a few more outlets for all your fancy devices.

These are perfect for keeping all your outlets protected. I usually go with another brand but cane across these on online store for a very fair price and i love how they offer then in long cords, such as 7 feet this eliminates the need to add additional extension cord. I like the variety of having at the end two additional slots for bigger adapter items so it makes for a great fit! highly recommend ! ask the come i both black & white options to go best with your decor. Also i love the right angled plug which is great for placing behind furniture and in tight spaces, all while freeing up room for the other outlet to be used! plus with a red led light (grounded) & green led light (protection) you can have piece of mind

The F.A.Q. for tripp lite 7 outlet 6 right angle + 1 transformer outlet surge protector power strip, 4ft cord, black, lifetime limited warranty & $25k insurance tlp74rb

I bought this for my kitchen after a lot of research. I had two other brands fail at this outlet and wondered if it was my outlet, but it checked out fine. This unit has leds for surge protection and for ground protection, so i will know something is going wrong in advance. If the surge protection led ever goes out, you can return the product for replacement. Many people have stated that this company stands behind their warranty, which i guarantee some others do not. I have been using it now for a couple of months with no problem. I have my microwave, my keurig coffeemaker, and my krups coffeemaker plugged into it. I wondered if there would be a problem with not being able to screw it in, but that has been a non-issue. Number one, i rarely unplug the appliances that are in the outlet but i do plug and unplug other appliances such as my mixer, milk frother, blender, etc, and i have had no problem with the outlet pulling out from the wall. The configuration of the outlet is very handy, and it looks very nice in my kitchen. I am satisfied with this purchase.

A number of questions have been asked here.

I picked this up to replace one i had in my cupboard. . I have a suspended cupboard in the kitchen that i use for charging all the various game controllers for the different consoles we have. The previous one was just a single switch, and i didn't like charging controllers that had already been topped off when one we were using went empty. So half the time i'd pull all the various controllers off their charging stands so charge one or two. . I wanted something i could individually control, and came across this. It works absolutely perfectly. Every game controller charging station has its own switch, so when it's time to charge, i just flip the switch in the appropriate position. No more worries about causing issues with the batteries of other ones that were already full when i need to charge something, and no need to go messing everything up taking them out of their position when i need something topped off. . Switches are nice and solid, don't feel as if they will fall apart. . Price was great, and it does exactly what it is designed to do. Wish i got this ages ago.

Best tripp lite transformer protector tlp74rb (power supplies or protection) in review

I recently had a surge protector on one of my older computer systems go bad, so i was looking for a cheap replacement since i didn't need to protect anything of real value. The tripp lite tlp74rb surge protector strip was an excellent choice. It only has 1080-joules surge suppression, but that is fine with me. I was more interested in the 7 outlets, including an end outlet for power adapters, etc. Currently priced for around $11, i couldn't ask for much more in a low cost surge protector.

One can't be too safe when it comes to electricity. This old home may have the old aluminum wiring prevalent in the 70's so we protect our home with these strips at the point of use. That way, the strip hopefully will trip before the wiring heats up. Microwave, coffee maker and any heavy duty appliance gets one (refrigerator gets a different kind). So far, no problems and i see no reason not to buy one. Wait for a sale, and protect the family. . This is not a cure all for poor home electrical wiring, but if you are a renter, or purchased a home and do not know the quality of your home wiring, it is an additional safety blanket for your loved ones. Plus it won't break the bank.

. Patricia, Westminster

Pros:. This is a no-nonsense surge protector that allows you to turn on and off a device individually as needed. Build quality is decent for a plastic surge protector, and there is at least an always-on outlet for the times you need to do a quick charge of a smartphone or rechargeable batteries. Or you could use it to do some vacuuming in the room. . I use this surge protector mainly to turn off those devices that have annoyingly bright blue leds that continue to illuminate my bedroom when i am done using my computer for the night. Sometimes putting electrical tape over the led is not enough. Some of these bright leds in hubs, speakers, etc. Will show often through the housing. . Another plus is that this surge protector has a straight-through plug. So if you have a device like a powerline network adapter that needs to be plugged directly to the wall outlet, this surge protector won't get in the way of it. . Cons:. If you leave any of the switches on, there is still light. Thankfully, it is not as annoying as the blue and green leds manufacturers put on everything these days. . Given the design, this surge protector will have to be in relative close proximity to you in order to use it effectively. It won't look as pretty if you have a very clean workspace. . Also, there is not much in spacing between the outlets except for the always-on one. If you plan on having one more devices with wide ac adapters plugged, then you might want to budget for some short cord extenders. . Though it is pro in my book, the surge protector only has a straight plug and not a right-angle (flat) plug like most surge protectors nowadays.

V. Juliana, Rochdale says

Kinda hard to review a surge protector without actually having a surge to be protected from. But i will say two things. The size of this was perfect. Fit into a recessed outlet behind my tv and left enough room for the other half of the receptacle to be used. I'm sure this was intentional and by design. The other thing i must say. Tripp lite is an awesome company ! i have several tripp lite protectors. No reason for the choice of manufacturer at first, just ended up that way. About 4 years ago, i had a nasty lightening storm at my house. I always try to unplug stuff on the rare occasion of this kind of storm. I was in the process of unplugging things and my service was hit. I had unplugged everything but one tripp lite surge protector at this point, and was literally reaching to unplug it when it was fried. A flash of light shot from it, a little smoke, and the burnt smell. I was mad because i thought they were supposed to "trip", not fry. I called the company prepared to let them have it. The guy i spoke with was extremely cool and helpful. He explained that i experienced the protectors best protection. A major surge. It did exactly what it is supposed to do. He even took my address to send me a brand new protector at no charge ! my equipment was all fine too by the way. Promised tripp lite i would be a loyal customer due to this experience so there you go ! hopefully the company still has the same great quality and service.

I. Rhonda, Virginia

The tripp brand of surge protector is one of the best brands of surge protector, and i especially like the design of this tripp lite 7 right-angle model. In addition to providing surge protection, it substantially expands the capacity of any electrical outlet that is situated in an inconvenient location, such as behind a bookshelf or a cabinet. The right-angle orientation of six of the outlets is ideal for the larger and more bulky power bricks that are used with certain devices, such as cellular telephones and smaller tablets. In addition, for my specific logistical requirements, the four-foot cord is the perfect length. This tripp lite 7 right-angle surge protector is thin, sleek, unobtrusive, and well-constructed, and it functions perfectly for expanding my electrical outlet capacity. Therefore, i give this excellent tripp lite 7 right-angle surge protector a five-star rating, along with my highest recommendation.

Z. Emma, Bradford says

I'm rounding up from 3. 5 stars. I had to return my original order because the three-pronged plug was not properly seated into the back of the unit. The prongs recessed into the housing when inserted into my wall, and the unit couldn't hold. The replacement doesn't have this problem, but it's far from a tight fit, especially important for a wall mounted surge protector. The rear plug lives at the bottom of the unit, which is less stable if you have heavy cables plugged in at the top, and it's not reversible. That said, it's nice looking, solid, and the rotatable outlets are pretty great. . If you don't care about rotating outlets, i recommend the belkin 6-outlet surgemaster wall-mount surge protector. It's not as nifty, but it forms a tight seal against the wall. Also the rear wall plug is seated in the top, which is more secure.

A. Russell, Georgia

These things work! had a power surge or somesort. Anything not on these was toast. Anything plugged into these is fully operational.

H. Rose, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern says

For those thar are curious, it is a bit tall so needs to go in top socket or it will block the second outlet. It also means that to use the bottom socket you need to make sure the plug is small, alternate option is to get another outlet/plug that converts 1 plug to more that is shorter and will align with how far this one sticks out.

U. Carol, Oklahoma

I researched a bit before choosing two of these surge protectors. I purchased one for a 10 port usb charging station for phones & tablets, and another one for a small tv/direct tv genie mini. I like the swivel feature so you can turn it out to plug in the plug, then swivel it back out of the way. This unit is well made and has two indicator leds. One to show that the surge protection is working, and another one that shows if the house ground is good. I love this great feature because it alerted me that one of the receptacles had a bad ground, and i was able to correct the issue. This surge protector also comes with $20, 000 ultimate lifetime insurance in which tripp lite warrants, for the lifetime of the product, (at tripp lite's option) to repair or replace (on a pro rata basis) directly connected equipment that is damaged due to power transients while properly connected to tripp lite products offering the ultimate lifetime insurance policy. This product has a great design and is easy to use. I highly recommend it and will purchase again should the need arise.

W. Yvette, Newfoundland and Labrador says

This is my initial impression of the tripp lite brand and my first surge protector from said brand: tripp lite 6 rotatable outlet direct plug-in surge protector. . Surge protectors come a dozen a dollar (literally) and folks seeking quality brands imho are the ones who understand that surges do happen or have gone through the experience of untimely replacing large electronics like the tv. . Having said that there is really only one thing you need to look at when considering surge protectors and it's not its joules rating: warranty. Coverage of damage through a power surge by a reputable brand once and if and only if the product was timely registered will yield you the only kind of insurance you might be happy to deal with. Beyond that, it's the features you want to look into and that's where this particular tripp lite comes into play. I'll just break it down to pros and cons. . Pros: tripp lite offers an unique feature where the plug will stop working once the surge protection has worn off (yes they do wear off). If you do a little research you'll find that it is often recommend replacing surge protectors once every 5-6 years or otherwise treat it like a normal plug extender should you choose to use it beyond those years. Tripp lite has come up with a "smarter" solution that may sounds a heck of a lot like planned obsolescence but it does fulfill a need for those using high end equipment that cannot afford a down time (like servers). This is also a way for me to lazily confirm whether there really are power surges in my area (some have a lot and others very little or none at all) and while it's prudent to look this up for your area i find this to be an unique way to test this question for my own home specifically. If this surge protector lasts me forever i know i'll never have to worry about lightnings and i'll just use my old prongs in more confidence. . Cons: some users have complained about the filmsy build of the surge protector. I found it to be fine. Also it's not a belkin or a apc with the best warranties known to also pay off if and when the time comes but once again after years of living in ignorance of all this and having not gone through any issues i'm leaning towards not having to deal with an actual surge. One minor gripe is that it does not have a usb charging port for my ever growing needs to power a roku or chromecast behind my tv but i suspect this might be a passing thing in lieu of usb ports showing up in tvs as well. . Wirecutter, a website i like to frequent recommend after doing a lot of the leg work for you so i recommend looking up their post before making a decision. Also this is the first surge protector i've purchased probably in years and it was to go with the new tv i just got (i subscribe to the philosophy of new wineskin for new wine). If anything changes i'll be updating the review accordingly.

. Arnett, Champagne-Ardenne

This is just what you'd want from a power strip. It's nice and sturdy and feels well made. It has 7 spots to plug things in, which is nice, and the end one has a spot for a larger adapter so you don't have to cover up a second outlet when using one of the regular outlets on the strip. We have tons of storms here, and i always get really nervous about things getting zapped, which has never actually happened to me, but i worry anyway. I feel pretty reassured that this will keep my electronics safe. . The only "issue" i have is that my house is old and all the wall outlets are two prongs so i have to use adapters to convert the 3 prong end into a 2 prong that will fit it. It's not a big deal because i'm used to it for lots of appliances, and i have plenty adapters on hand anyway. I just wonder if this compromises any of the safety the surge protector offers, but i don't think it does. . So as of now, it's protected all my stuff through some storms, and i feel confident that it will continue to do so. I haven't tried mounting it, but that's definitely a plus if you're interested in that as well. It's a good price for a surge protector (which does more than just a normal power strip) so it's definitely worth the money.

S. Josephine, Stockport says

Works great to add extra places to plug things in. This works great for us near our bed, because there's not a lot of room to put phone chargers in. It's a pretty slim profile and has a surge protector built in. It appears to be well made and durabable. Keep in mind, if you had electrical items that had three big plugs they might not fit well together in this triple socket combo. Happy with this product!

N. Marguerite, Hammersmith and Fulham says

I'd buy again if the need arose. It's a very good product tripp lite but not excellent! . Pros:. Individual on/off switched outlet control. On / lit, off / unlit. Also has an always on outlet. A good reasonable surge protection with emi/rfi filtering. It can lower your electrical costs. It's incredibly useful for charging my many mobile devices and to control various other electronic devices (lights, fans etc. ). . All the tripp lite products i've purchased in the past were excellent and outlasted my needs, but here are a few considerations for tripp lite:. The outlets are much too close together. If the outlets could be rotated 90 degrees, some power chargers (which are wider than they are deep) would fit in a single outlet space. There's not enough space between each switch and the associated outlet, so the power charger sometimes overlaps the switch. The three-prong plug on this surge protector sticks out from the wall over an inch, which may limit where you can use it (a flat wall plug may be the fix). Plugging in any two or three-prong plug or charger can be tight and removing the plug or charger can be as difficult. Hopefully this fit will loosen over time. . Since i can only fit three of my power chargers on this strip i decided to buy the etekcity 10-pack power extension cords from online store. This will enable me to use all six outlets. But because i had to purchase these ext. Cords to use all six outlets, you only get four stars tripp lite. . Fyi: rosewill makes a power strip with individual on/off outlets (without surge protection) and another product sold by cyberguys seems to be a very similar surge protector (to tripp lite) with individual on/off outlets and one always on.

J. Whiteman, New York

I don't really think that the protected & grounded lights need to be on constantly and a simple test button could eliminate it. I do have a peeve with things that need a constant light to tell me they're working or that they're on or off. I purchased this for my microwave because we're in a rural area and have some blips in the power that are so short the only way you know it happened is because a few clocks need to be reset. The last time it occurred when lost the use of a few buttons on the microwave keypad so a few bucks invested in this will hopefully eliminate that problem. It's really just a piece-of-mind item and i'll likely never know if it worked but i knocked off a star for the lights that will never go off if your outlet is properly installed. Before plugging any grounded cord into an outlet i always check it with my receptacle tester klein tools rt100 receptacle tester and i highly recommend this little tool because if your ground is not correct you could loose some expensive electronics.

M. Beale, Sandwell says

I liked the first one i bought so much that i purchased two more lol. These are great! for me, the long extension cords attached to most surge protectors is extremely annoying. Not to mention a pain in the butt to put screws in the wall to hang the surge protector from, which never seems to stay. This is extremely sturdy and much more functional. Slowly getting rid of any surge protectors in my house with long cords. Great design, great price. I will be purchasing more!

R. Morgan, New South Wales

Generally speaking, tripp lite has always made a good solid product, at a good decent price this one is no different. I like the fact that it's of a darker color. Most power bars are white, and stand out quite a bit, but this one being a dark gray, almost muddy brown is a welcoming alternative. Most furniture these days i think is darker in most homes, especially around the entertainment area, so this fits in well. . I like that the plug end isn't too large and will fit into the socket while allowing a second one to also plug in. Some i've purchased in the past make it very difficult and press against each other while plugged in. . The switch is also another thought through detail it's a solid switch, and when you switch from on to off or vice versa, it actually fully switches over. Most of the white power bars i used to have, the switches were very shaky and felt like they only did a half turn towards the other side. . The last socket is turned 90 degrees to the side, this is great for those really big plugs you might have the ones that look more like a power pack, rather then an electrical plug. . Finally as a surge protector, it's a really nice added bonus. I use this, among other fail-safes, to plug my media center, including my computer and tv into. Two of these seems to do the trick and so far i've never had any issues. I'm glad i got them as a safety net, we've been having a lot of thunderstorms lately, and knowing i've got my setup going though this, is just an added layer of reassurance.

. Wayt, Tameside says

Tripp-lite makes a great surge protector, i have been buying them for over 25 years. I run a computer repair store and i had one go out in that time and it just needed a new fuse. If you want to buy something that lasts as long as you do you might try one of these.

O. Fabian, Liverpool

It's about time i get my hands on one of these, i get tired of having all of my connected accessories come on each time i turn the power strip on. I like to save what little electricity i can, now i don't have to manually turn the printer off and the other "auto on" appliances each time. The only downside. Is only one wide receptacle (and it's the always on one). I suppose if you want a perfect power strip, you will need one that is twice as long and x2 more money. It serves it's purpose and wasn't much money.

. Diana, Indiana says

I love these little 3 outlet surge protectors. They are extremely portable and also are nice if you don't want a power strip on the floor. I've used several of them in places where i want to simply have power cables going straight to the wall without having to wrangle a power strip and have it taking up floor space. They are also great in instances where you only need a few outlets instead of the usual six or more on a power strip. The device is so small that you can easily toss one in your luggage for trips and have your laptop, phone, etc. Protected while you have them plugged in as well. . My only very minor complaint is that the lights on the front are very bright. I do like having the status lights so i'm glad they are there, but if you want to use this in a bedroom i recommend placing a piece of black electrical tape over the lights so your room isn't lit up at night.

T. Anonymous, Walsall

I bought this so i can fit all my apple chargers on it. Still have room for three more devices. I wish the cord was a little longer.

X. Wilson, Norfolk says

I found out that my garage door opener (the interior board) was damaged by lightning. It would take me several times pushing the remote to get it to open. It had been acting this way for a long time and was getting worse. Anyway, i needed to get a new opener and my repair guy recommended that i get a surge protector for it. This was a perfect size protector for the cord from the opener, it lights up to let you know that it's working. I got it just in time for the spring storms.

. Hurst, North Tyneside

So this product is a little bigger than i expected. It looks and feels heavy duty. I put the pack of cigarettes next to it for comparison in the picture. The cord is quite a few feet long, but i used to twist ties to retie it with only a little bit of cord sticking out. I love that you can't see it or the wires behind my tv stand even thought it's large. It's a great product that's very green. You turn off the switches you aren't using and electricity quits going to the outlet, unlike normal ones. I love that i save energy and feel safe knowing if something caught on fire that electricity would quit going to it immediately. I wold definitely recommend this product to anyone that wants to feel safe while conserving energy!

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

B. Emily, Bracknell Forest says

Great for being compact but when plugging an imac desktop and an hp computer plug, it only allows for two outlets, not 3, since the plugs are spaced too close.

V. Weber, Arizona

I ordered the tripp lite 7 outlet with 6 individually controlled switch in white/gray. The picture is a little misleading. The actual color on the strip was dark gray(very dark gray). The switch also rattles a bit inside. This is what you get when its made in china now. Over all, its a good power switch. I'm using it for my aquarium. Cross my fingers that this tripp lite 7 doesnt blow in a few month

P. Yvette, Durham says

My first negative review ever on online store. I purchased two of these. Intelligent placement of sockets. But. Of the seven places where you insert your plugs, only one accepts the plugs, the one on the very end of the strip. The other 6 only allows the inserted plug to go half way or 3/4 the way in. Pushing hard does not help. These same plugs have always inserted fully in belkin products. Plugs: dell pc/e-machine monitor, table lamp, etc. Good layout, 2 telephone jacks, power lights: everything i was wanting. Only it does not accept plugs. Neither one of the two that i purchased at the same time. (no, it is not because it's new, and have to push the plugs in harder the first time. Something inside is preventing full insertion) too bad, i really would like to have some like this, but afraid to reorder, since 2 out of 2 are like this.

N. Watson, Champagne-Ardenne

If you have a two socket outlet in the wall, this plug-in will cover both outlets, so you ultimately only get one additional outlet. Then if you have any power cords that are non traditional in size (meaning not tiny), then you can only fit two in the three adapter outlets, so it doesn't give you additional outlets if that is what you are looking for.

. Jessica, Niedersachsen says

The whole point of buying this was for the bottom outlet, so i could put the big adapters on it. . The extra bottom outlet doesn't even work. The other ones work. But that's what my old strip did. . Seriously disappointing. What's the point?

I contacted tripp lite regarding this the tripp lite 1 outlet portable surge protector power strip, because of the number of reviews posted to online store that report overheating and burning associated with this product. Tripp lite was not able to provide any documentation to specify that the tripp lite 1 outlet portable surge protector power strip interrupt power to the connected devices and/or provide any other safe mode of failing when the surge protective element has been consumed. On the other hand, the tripp lite isobar 2 tripp lite isobar 2 outlet surge protector power strip, direct plug in, metal, lifetime limited warranty & $10, 000 insurance (isoblok2-0) incorporates fail safe thermal fusing and will cut off power to all receptacles when it is no longer able to perform power surge suppression. I returned to online store the the tripp lite 1 outlet portable surge protector power strip and purchased instead the tripp lite isobar 2. I believe the tripp lite tripp lite isobar 2 is well worth the extra cost.

This surge protector was only 4 months old when it failed our year old tv. Within minutes of the power surge i smelled a smell of burning electrical wires and realized it was coming from our tv. The tv was no longer operable along with our sound bar. I jumped through the extensive hoops set out by tripp lite and had to spend $12 to send my surge protector to them for testing. Surprise! they tested the surge protector and said they would not honor their warranty because the surge protector didn't show signs of a surge. I even had documentation from our electric company verifying there had been an outage and subsequent surge just minutes before the smell of burning wires. Tripp lite does not test the surge protector with an objective 3rd party. The testing was done 'in-house' so of course they are going to find that the surge protector didn't fail. I wanted to share my experience with this company so that others can make an informed decision. All of the surge protectors in our home were tripp lite because i thought i could trust them. Now i will have the added expense of replacing them all. They did not stand behind their product and i'm out almost $800. A quick google search shows that this has happened to others. Each person's experience with the warranty/claim process was exactly like mine. The customer sent in the surge protector (as requested by tripp lite) and no 'problem' was found and therefore no warranty was honored.

I'd rather speak to their customer service, but can't find a link anywhere. Bought this specifically because it's guaranteed to work and has "insurance", but just 2 weeks ago we had an electrical storm and my telephone and roku were fried. And no lightning strikes close at all. The green light is still on, so i'm wondering : a) how this happened and b) how do i take advantage of the "insurance" to replace my fried electronics?

This started on fire. We got it in april and it is now december 12th. The surge protector didn't work and it just slowly kept burning until we could figure out where the smell was coming from. My family and home were at risk because of it's failure to work.

I bought this item because of the great reviews of tripp lite surge protectors. I was highly disappointed with this item. It would not stay plugged in. My outlet is standard and outlet cover is flat. But this item just kept falling out if the cords (laptop, charger, etc) were jostled even the slightest bit, without any tugging at all. I've never experienced this with a surge protector before. So frustrating. On the search for a new one.

This was the only individually switched power strip with surge protection made by a name brand manufacturer that i could find. There were some other random ones as well but they seemed to be made in china pieces with no company really backing them up. Tripp lite has been good to be before so i bought one then later another one. The pros are obvious in that it offers surge protection and you can individually turn off outlets. I love this in the shop because when i'm not actively using a tool i like to unplug it so i don't accidentally activate it. With this i simply just switch everything off except what i want. The major con is that i burned one out. I've had really cheap power strips before and if you overload it the little reset button pops out. You unplug your appliances and you push it and it's all good again. Not so with this item. For some reason all the switched outlets no longer work although the always on outlet does. I was going to open it up to see if there was something i could fix but it uses two of the curved flatheads that you can't remove. This is a major con for me since accidents happen and it's easy to overload a strip. I mean if this thing was prehistoric and used fuses instead that's still better since you could replace the fuse but this just winds up being landfill. I still use the one i have but i'm super careful about burning it out as well but will never buy another one of these. For $28 that reset button should work. For single use burn out it should only cost $8 max.

I just purchased the tripp lite 7 outlet (6 individually controlled) surge protector power strip so obviously i cant say anything about how it works/doesnt work for that feature. However the first thing i wasnt happy with is the design of the rear mounting holes on the back. They placed them all the way to one side (the switch side) which means that when you mount this on a wall, it has a tendency to rock and lift up on the opposite side when you go to pull any plugs out. It also makes it a bit awkward to get this hung/mounted right. I did purchase this to replace an older power strip in the garage because the of the 1 constant/6 controlled outlet feature. I can have the shop light on the constant outlet yet keep tools/chargers plugged in and turned off until needed, saving on the power draw when not in use while reducing wear/tear on the plugs and outlets

O. Colleen, Rochdale says

The design on this would have been excellent if they would have included a screw mount in the center. Without it, the slightest movement from any of the cords and the whole thing gets yanked out of the wall, ever so slightly, but enough for both led power lights to go out; signalling that there is no power going to anything plugged in. As is, i have to say no go.

Tripp-lite generally makes good surge protectors. This unit comes with a lifetime guarantee no details or restrictions in the package, so it's not a limited guarantee that covers equipment up to $5, 000. It also comes with a trustworthy ul certification, unlike similar units that you might find at a local discount store. . However, there's a big flaw in this product: it's large. If you plug it into the top outlet of a standard duplex wall outlet, you will be unable to plug most "wall wart" power transformers into the lower outlet, and you may have trouble with larger grounded plugs as well. If you plug it into the bottom outlet, you're not getting anything into the top outlet. Since the point of buying a single-socket surge protector like this is to protect just one socket, this is a pretty big design flaw. In most cases, you'd be better off using a power strip or a multiple-outlet surge-protector/multi-tap device. If only tripp-lite had made the thing wide instead of tall. . This is probably a good choice for things that have a dedicated single outlet, like a properly-wired refrigerator. But if you want to protect one device on a standard wall outlet while still using the other plug, the spikecube likely won't work for you.

D. Judith, Salford says

One of the prongs pulled half way out of the socket when unplugging from an extension cord. I can't return it because it is overseas

F. Laura, Cornwall

This thing is a great idea: a surge strip that doesn't take up any surface space, and only occupies half of an outlet. But in practice, not so good. The curve at the top of the unit means it covers the outlet above it (if it goes on the bottom of a normal us wall plate). It fits better in the top outlet, but that still means bulkier plugs can't go in the bottom outlet. . Its outlets are closely spaced, meaning anything bigger than a thin plug will overlap the outlet next to it, making it effectively into a 2 outlet surge suppressor. A final hit is that 660 joules protection is well below what most common consumer surge suppressors deliver. . Tldr version: too tight, too bulky, and low-spec. And not that cheap. . You're better off getting one of the big 6-outlet models that cover both plugs. Not recommended.

J. Medina, Harrow says

This thing will burn your house down after using for awhile ! after a year mine got hot and melted !

A. Rhonda, Rhode Island

Overall it is good but the product does have a flaw that was noted by another reviewer. The product easily comes detached from the wall since it does not have any screws to hold it to the electrical outlet. Wish it had this feature. The product easily wiggles out of the outlet when you are removing plugs from the unit. The workaround is just to be careful and push it in whenever you have to plug or remove a wire.

K. Morgan, Wokingham says

I loved the idea of a surge protector with a switch on each outlet which would enable me to leave the chargers for cell phones, tablet, netbook, music player, etc. Constantly plugged in without worrying about burning them out - plus no more misplaced chargers and i could create a central charging location for all small, portable electronics. . So pros is (a) switched outlets and (b) reasonable surge protection with emi/rfi filtering, and (c) lowered electrical costs - this was not helpful for me as i have switched outlets and/or separate surge protectors. . The cons are as follows: (1) the plugs are much too close together. Since every one of my chargers has a power brick, some of the plugs were inevitably blocked with the result that i don't have enough available plugs for all devices (2) there is not enough space between each switch and the associated outlet - in some cases, i found that the power brick overlapped the switch, which meant the switch has to be turned on first, which ruined the whole point of this device; (3) the sockets were ridiculously tight and slightly misaligned, which screamed shoddy workmanship to me. I had to unplug the surge protector and very, very, very carefully use a screwdriver to get things lined up and to loosen the openings of the metal liners of every socket before i could manage to insert a single plug. Sheesh! ; (4) the three-prong plug on this surge protector sticks out from the wall for about an inch and a half which limits where you can plug it in - this should really be a flat plug. In fact, i ended up having to daisy chain this with another surge protector that has a flat wall plug in order to set it up where i wanted it; and (5) not sure if this is a comment on the surge protector or my walls, lol, but this would not stay mounted on the wall - grrrrrr - i tried velcro, superglue and nails all of which failed - thanks to helpful suggestions posted here by debi and others, i ended up using molly screws and a wood mounting plaque which looks nice and is working well. . So bottom line, this surge protector has horrible, horrible, horrible ergonomics and a somewhat questionable build quality - but it is the only surge protector with a switch on each outlet i was able to find, it works, is awesomely convenient for my stated use (despite the cons) and tripp lite does have a reasonably good reputation. Note that i did find a switched power outlet (not a surge protector) made by rosewill, but it also seemed to suffer from build quality issues. So unless and until someone makes something better, this is the only game in town . . .

U. Debra, Colorado

Defective. Red "protected light" on. Tried multiple outlets. Wouldn't turn green. Addendum: manufacturer noted red light normal for "grounded". Green light normal for "protected". No instructions included in package, only a warranty in spanish. Would now give 3 stars.

This would be a great product if the maker took into consideration the fatness of the plugs on electronics. Many electronics do not have a regular plug at the end of the cord. They have square or rectangular plastic boxes and the prongs come out somewhere on the plastic box. The prongs on my printer are more to one side of that little plastic (annoying) box but still has enough overhang of the sides of the plastic box and the wifi router plug is the same so to plug them both into this surge protector means the middle outlet on the unit cannot be used. Since these surge protectors are made for electronics and the word "electronics" is used in the product description, the maker has to know how big some of the plugs on electronics are. So why do they not allow more space between the plugs? i ordered two of these and can only use one due to this problem so i am not thrilled at this point.

I like to sit in different places around my house when i work on my laptop, so this small, single unit surge protector is easy to move around with me. I also bring it out with me when i'm studying away from home (you can definitely find smaller travel ones/this doesn't have the slimmest profile, but it's good enough for me). . One thing that really bothers me though, is its poor product design. If you place this in a bottom outlet, the rounded top will block the outlet above it. If you place this in the top outlet, it can still block the bottom outlet, depending on the size/shape of plug you're trying to put in the bottom outlet. Slimmer profile plugs below work, but you often have to make sure to place that first before placing the surge protector in order for both bottom plug and surge protector to fit.

. Mathis, California says

Leans out of the outlet. Plastic piece that fits in the center hole between the two wall outlets very touchy and cheep. I give it a 1 just because there are soooo many other ones on the market that don't lean out of the socket. I have to push it into the outlet anytime i put in or take out a cord. If it weren't such a hasel to send back i would. Very poor design. It works but if i had my choice i would definitely get a different one

Y. Patton, Leeds

Terrible. The bottom real plug is very flimsy and barely sticks in the socket. The top plastic piece that is supposed to help hold the surge protector into the socket was about 2 cm's too low to do anything and just prevented it from actually being pushed in all the way.

I mistakenly did not unpack and use this item until it was too late to return this doa item. The online store /seller advertisement hype read well, impressive. The price was right for what it was supposed to do. Mine lit up and switched properly, but anything plugged into it, (plugs a bit too close) did not power up. No juice at any of the plugs, with all the strip power indicators fully functioning. Apparently, i now have something else to take apart and possibly repair that i don't have time for.

C. Cunningham, Isle of Wight

After a little over a year and half and it stopped working and is leaking something out of it. . I can not get the tripp lite company to reply to the email via their website. . It also does not like to stay in the main plug when removing another plug from the unit. . I do not recommend this item.
